On Sky News All Out Politics talking military funding - Duration: 2:24.
So, isn't it good enough to say well Britain unlike most other European
nations does honor this 2% spending target of GDP and frankly we can't
afford anymore.
Johnny Mercer: Adam, this 2% is a misnomer;
you could have 2%, 3%, 5%, it's all about the capability and whether or not you
can meet the threat and I do think that you know we heard a lot of good things
in the budget last week around spending around, 5G, Artificial Intelligence,
driverless cars, the people of this country like that, but when it
comes to that sort of thing you cut your cloth according to what you can afford.
When it comes to defence, you fund what your professionals ask you to and do
what is required to keep people safe. Spending is after-all all about
priorities and defence is the number-one duty of government and we need to see
that reflected in spending. Adam Bolton: You've been on active service in theatres of war
to what extent now do you and other soldiers and military personnel just
feel constrained all the time by resource pressures and shortages.
Johnny Mercer: Well look, from my from where I sit, this was one of the driving factors
in me coming into Parliament. If you conduct these operations and you're with
young men and women and you're trying to motivate them every day to do pretty
dangerous things and you can see day to day the sort of lack of political
leadership, but also the the equipment shortages and the real, you know, that the
military commanders aren't blameless in this, the senior military
commanders, but you know that lack of vision and real purpose in places like
Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm afraid that leaves you with a fairly sort of hard
baked in view of where we are militarily and it also drives you to get it right
and that's what this is about. It's not really about me or others involved in
this, it's about this country it's about what we stand for it's about what
defence is and above all I'm afraid I am a patriot, that's why I'm here and
I want to see us get it right. I understand we are in difficult financial
times, but spending is about priorities we have a duty to the people, who pay for
this by the way, and who vote for us to get this right
and I'm determined that we will.

Man arrested for Florida serial killings played basketball at St. John's - Duration: 3:05.
Man arrested for Florida serial killings played basketball at St. John's
Florida cops on Tuesday busted a former St. John's basketball player suspected of being the serial killer linked to four murders in one Tampa neighborhood, officials said.
A tip about a gun at a McDonald's led to the arrest of 24-year-old Howell Emanuel "Trai" Donaldson III, police announced.
Donaldson had a brief stint as a walk-on player in the 2011-12 season for the Red Storm, school sources said. The point guard from Alonso HS in Tampa never played in any games.
A LinkedIn page apparently belonging to Donaldson said he graduated the Queens university in 2015 with a degree in sports management.
The profile also said he worked for the Mets in the 2016 season as a "guest experience host," scanning tickets for season subscribers and VIPs and operating elevators. He's suspected of killing four people in the Seminole Heights neighborhood since Oct.
Donaldson is suspected of having killed four people in the Seminole Heights neighborhood since Oct. He was busted at a Tampa McDonald's where he was employed after he walked in Tuesday and handed the manager a 9mm handgun.
He asked his boss to hold on to it for him, employee Gail Rogers told the Tampa Bay Times.
While Donaldson walked away to apply for a payday loan at a nearby check-cashing store, Rogers said, the manager alerted a policewoman in the restaurant.
The cop called for backup and officers took Donaldson in for questioning when he returned. It was not revealed how he was linked to the killings.
The four random murders didn't appear to be robberies, leading police to believe they were the work of a serial killer. Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan made the announcement of an arrest, but was short on details.
"Unfortunately, I will not have the answers that you want," Dugan said. "This is an ongoing situation.". Mayor Bob Buckhorn said he's glad the manhunt appears to be over.
"Fifty-one days ago, I said this was a struggle between good and evil," he said. "Well, tonight goodness has won.".

Hello everyone, my name is Ese.
I am in my final year of study at U of T in the area of Political Science and Equity Studies.
#myUofTsnapshot was when I had the opportunity to go to Rwanda for a duration of three months
through the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship that I received at U of T.
I learned a lot about myself and a lot about others around me.
It was an opportunity for me to understand that even though I am an individual, I'm connected
to other individuals and that's when I learned about community.
That was the biggest takeaway in working at the centre day-in, day-out, at the Ubumwe
Community Centre.
The name alone means "togetherness".
And so I found that, when I was working with the children, when I was at home with my home-stay
family, when I was able to integrate myself into the culture that is Rwandese.
So I would definitely recommend, if you have the opportunity, if you receive this award,
do it because that fosters diversity, it makes you
stand out.

Form I-9 On-Demand Webinar - Duration: 32:29.
Female VO: Welcome! This webinar includes valuable information
for employers and employees about how to complete Form I-9,
Employment Eligibility Verification.
Federal law requires that every employer hiring an individual
for employment in the United States complete Form I-9.
Form I-9 helps employers verify their employees' identity
and employment authorization.
So, let's get started.
Today, we will cover many aspects of Form I-9,
its history, why it's used, who needs one,
and how to complete it.
We'll explain Form I-9 storage and retention requirements
and what to do if an employer discovers a mistake
on a Form I-9 or that an employee's Form I-9 is missing.
We will also discuss how Form I-9 and E-Verify
work together to benefit employers and employees.
For your convenience, you can view this webinar continuously
from start to finish, or watch individual chapters
by clicking on the topic you want.
Please visit I-9 Central for more information on any topic
presented in this webinar.
Form I-9 was created as a result of the Immigration Reform
and Control Act (also known as IRCA [er-kuh])
passed by Congress in 1986.
This legislation was passed to control and deter
illegal immigration to the United States.
IRCA places requirements on employers.
Employers must not hire or employ workers
who are not authorized to work in the United States.
Employers must not continue to employ an individual knowing
that he or she is unauthorized to work.
Employers are also required to verify the identity
and employment authorization of employees,
including U.S. citizens, on Form I-9.
All U.S. employers must have a Form I-9 on file
for all current employees hired AFTER November 6, 1986.
So, who is authorized to work in the United States?
IRCA establishes four categories of individuals
who may legally work in the United States.
For Form I-9 purposes, this includes all 50 states,
the District of Columbia, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands,
Puerto Rico, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
The four categories are:
U.S. citizens
Noncitizen nationals of the United States
Lawful permanent residents
Aliens authorized to work
In this chapter, we will explain how the
anti-discrimination provisions of the Immigration
and Nationality Act protect employees.
Employers are prohibited from engaging in
four types of unlawful conduct:
Citizenship or immigration status discrimination (actual or perceived)
National origin discrimination (actual or perceived)
Document abuse during the Form I-9 process, and
Retaliation
The Department of Justice Immigrant and
Employee Rights Section can help employees
who have complaints about these types of conduct.
You can learn more about anti-discrimination laws on
their website and see a schedule of upcoming free webinars.
For more information, visit www.justice.gov,
email IER@usdoj.gov,
or call the Immigrant and Employee Rights employer hotline at
1-800-255-8155.
Next, let's talk about who needs to complete Form I-9.
All U.S. employers must have a Form I-9 on file
for <b>all current</b> employees hired AFTER November 6, 1986.
U.S. employers are <i>not</i> required to complete Form I-9 for:
Employees hired BEFORE November 6, 1986
Employees working outside the United States
Independent contractors, or
Individuals employed for casual domestic work in a private home on a sporadic,
irregular or intermittent basis
- for example, a handyman, babysitter or cleaning person.
Now, we 'll discuss how
employees must complete Section 1 of the form.
Employers must use the most current version of the form,
which may be completed on a computer or on paper.
Employers must ensure that employees have access to the
form instructions and Lists of Acceptable Documents either by
providing employees with printed copies or ensuring employees
have access to them online.
Section 1 is completed by each new employee on or before his or
her first day of employment.
Employees must provide their name, other last names used,
address, and date of birth.
Employees only need to provide their Social Security number if
their employer participates in E-Verify.
In the optional fields for email address and phone number,
employees must enter "N/A" if they choose not to provide that
information.
However, if the employer uses E-Verify, employees who enter
their email address will receive an email notification if
E-Verify indicates that further action is required on their
E-Verify case.
Employees then select whether they are a U.S.
citizen, a noncitizen national, a lawful permanent resident, or
an alien authorized to work in the United States.
If they select an alien authorized to work, they should
also include the date their employment authorization ends,
if applicable.
Employees who check "Alien authorized to work" must enter
either their Alien Number, OR their Form I-94 Admission Number
OR their foreign passport number in the fields provided.
Employees who enter a foreign passport number must enter the
country that issued the passport.
Employees can have a Preparer or Translator help them complete
Section 1.
Employees who do not use a preparer or translator must
check the first box in the Preparer/Translator
Certification section.
Otherwise, preparers and translators must check the
second box and complete the Certification areas provided.
Even if a preparer or translator signs this certification, the
employee must still sign his or her name in Section 1.
Although the employee completes Section 1, employers are
responsible for ensuring it was completed properly.
To avoid common errors, the employer must make sure the
employee:
Completed Section 1 by the first day of work for pay
Printed his or her name, other last names used (such as a
maiden name), address and a date of birth.
Provided an "A" number or USCIS
number if he or she selected "A lawful permanent
resident".
Provided an "A" number or USCIS number, Form
I-94 Admission number or foreign passport information if he or
she selected "An alien authorized to work".
Did not check more than one citizenship or
immigration status, and
Signed and dated the form.
Completing Form I-9 on a computer may help you avoid some
of these errors.
The next chapter will show you how to complete Section 1 using
a computer.
Employers must complete Form I-9 to verify the identity and
employment authorization of new employees, both U.S.
citizens and noncitizens.
Employees complete Section 1 and employers complete Sections 2
and 3.
This video shows how employees fill out Section 1 when using a
computer to complete a Form I-9 obtained from the USCIS website.
First, employers must ensure that employees have access to
the form, instructions and Lists of Acceptable Documents.
Employers must either provide employees with printed copies or
ensure employees have access to them online.
Anyone can access the instructions from the Form I-9
web page.
When connected to the Internet, you can access these
instructions directly from the Form I-9 by clicking the
instructions button at the top of each page.
Even without Internet access, employers and employees using a
computer can move the cursor over fields or click on the
question marks to see instructions.
Let's see how employees must complete Section 1.
Employees must complete Section 1 on or before their first day
of employment.
They first enter their biographical information.
Employees only need to provide their Social Security number if
their employer uses E-Verify.
Entering an e-mail address and telephone number are optional,
but employees must enter N/A if they choose to skip those
fields.
Next, employees enter their citizenship or immigration
status by checking one of the boxes.
Once a selection is made, fields related to a different selection
will contain N/A.
Lawful permanent residents must enter their A-Number or USCIS
Number, then select Alien Number or USCIS Number from the
drop-down menu.
Aliens authorized to work must enter either their A-Number,
I-94 number, or foreign passport number, as well as the date
their work authorization expires.
If employees enter a foreign passport number, they also must
choose the country that issued the passport from the drop-down
menu.
Employees must check the first box if they don't use a preparer
or translator.
After that option is selected, all fields in the section are
locked.
Employees may use a preparer or a translator to help them
complete the form.
The preparer or translator must check the second box in this
section, then choose from the drop-down menu the number of
preparers and translators used.
If the employee uses more than one preparer or translator, the
form generates an extra page for them to enter their information.
If completing the form on paper, extra preparers and translators
must enter their information on an additional sheet that can be
downloaded from the Form I-9 web page.
Once the employee completes all the fields and presses "Click to
finish," fields completed incorrectly turn red and are
highlighted with a bold box.
The form also provides pop-up messages with instructions on
how to resolve problems.
You may edit each field separately or clear all fields
by clicking "Start Over." The print button at the top of the
page activates your computer's print function.
Employees should only print page 1 and extra pages with multiple
preparers' or translators' information if completing the
form separately from their employer.
The form may take a few seconds to print as it generates a QR
code.
After the form is printed, the signature and date fields must
be completed by hand by the employee and any translators or
preparers.
Those fields cannot be filled on a computer.
We hope this video helped you understand how to complete
Section 1 of a Form I-9 obtained from the USCIS website.
You can find instructional videos for Sections 2 and 3 also
on this page.
If you still have questions, visit the I-9 Central.
Thank you for watching.
Now, we'll discuss how employers
must complete Section 2 of the form.
At the top of page 2, employers must enter the employee's name
and the citizenship/immigration status box the employee chose in
Section 1, in case the pages are separated.
Employers or their authorized representatives must complete
Section 2 no later than 3 business days after a newly
hired employee's first day of employment.
For example, if a new employee starts work on a Monday, Form
I-9 must be completed by Thursday.
If an employee will work fewer than 3 days, employers must
complete Section 2 on the employee's FIRST day of
employment.
In this section, employers verify and record the List A or
List B and List C documents the employee presented to establish
identity and employment authorization.
List A documents establish both identity and employment
authorization.
List B documents establish just identity, and list C documents
establish just employment authorization.
If an employee presents a single document from List A, such as a
U.S. passport, you should record it in the first area in
the List A column.
However, if an employee presents a selection from List A that
consists of multiple documents, record each of them in a
separate area in the List A column.
List B and C documents must always be presented together.
Refer to the form instructions for more information on
accepting and entering acceptable documents.
Although not required, the U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency that
enforces I-9 requirements, recommends that employers choose
to keep copies of documents employees present when
completing Form I-9.
However, employers who choose to photocopy documents must do so
for ALL employees, regardless of their national origin or
immigration or citizenship status.
Employers who use E-Verify must photocopy documents.
In addition, if an employee presents an Employment
Authorization Document, (Form I-766), Permanent Resident Card
(Form I-551), U.S.
Passport, and U.S.
Passport Card, E-Verify employers must make a photocopy
and keep it on file with Form I-9.
The Additional Information field provides space to add notations
to Form I-9 as necessary.
For more information, see page 11 of the form instructions.
In the Certification field, employers enter the employee's
first day of employment.
Then employers enter their information in the remaining
fields.
Authorized representatives must enter their own name and title,
then the employer's business information.
Next, the employer or the authorized representative signs
and dates the form to attest that they have examined the
documents the employee presented.
The person who examines the documents must be the same
person who signs the form.
Completing Form I-9 on a computer may help you enter this
information more easily.
However, after completing the form on the computer, remember
to print and sign it.
The next chapter will show you how to complete Section 2 using
a computer.
Employers must complete Form I-9 to verify the identity and
employment authorization of new employees, both U.S.
citizens and noncitizens.
Employees complete Section 1 and employers complete Sections 2
and 3.
This video shows how employers fill out Section 2 when using a
computer to complete a Form I-9 obtained from the USCIS website.
First, employers must ensure that employees have access to
the form, instructions and Lists of Acceptable Documents.
Employers must either provide employees with printed copies or
ensure employees have access to them online.
Anyone can access the instructions from the Form I-9
web page.
When connected to the Internet, you can access these
instructions directly from the Form I-9 by clicking the instructions
button at the top of each page.
Even without Internet access, employers and employees using a
computer can move the cursor over fields or click on the
question marks to see instructions.
Let's see how employers or their authorized representatives must
complete Section 2.
First, employers should review Section 1 to ensure employees
completed it properly.
Once the employee presents identity and employment
authorization documents, the employer must ensure they are
acceptable for Form I-9.
Employers must enter information from the employee's documents in
Section 2.
Employers must complete and sign Section 2 within 3 business days
of the employee's first day of employment.
If the employer and employee complete the form together, the
citizenship or immigration status the employee selected and
the name entered in Section 1 are automatically available in
the fields at the top of Section 2.
If the employer and employee do not complete the form together,
the employer must open a blank form, go to the top of Section
2, and enter the employee's name and the number next to the
citizenship or immigration status box the employee checked
in Section 1.
Completing the Citizenship and Immigration Status box activates
the drop-down menus in the List A, B and C columns.
The columns relate to the citizenship or immigration
status the employee checked in Section 1.
For example, the employee checks box 1 in Section 1, and presents
a U.S. passport.
The employer selects "1" in the Citizenship and Immigration
Status in Section 2.
When the employer clicks "Document Title" under List A,
the employer can select the U.S.
passport from the drop-down menu.
Employers must always ensure that Section 1 and any extra
pages generated for multiple preparers and translators are
properly completed, printed and signed.
If an employee presents documents from List A, select
the documents from the first drop-down list in the first
column.
Entering documents in the List A column automatically fills Lists
B and C with N/A.
To reopen Lists B and C, choose N/A from the first List A
dropdown.
If an employee presents List B and C documents, select the List
B document from the first dropdown in the second column,
and the List C document from the first dropdown in the third
column.
Entering documents in List B or C automatically fills List A
with N/A.
To reopen List A, choose N/A from the first List B dropdown.
Employers must enter an issuing authority, document number and
expiration date for documents.
If the document does not contain that information, enter N/A.
The form may automatically provide information for certain
documents.
The form also has a space to enter additional information.
Check the form instructions for more information on this
feature.
Next, enter the employee's first day of employment.
Authorized representatives completing these fields must
enter their own name and title, and fill in the employer's
business name and address information.
Once the employer or authorized representative completes all the
fields and presses "Click to finish," fields completed
incorrectly turn red and are highlighted with a bold box.
The form also provides pop-up messages with instructions on
how to resolve problems.
You may edit each field separately or clear all fields
by clicking "Start Over."
The print button at the top of the
page activates your computer's print function.
The form prints as 2 pages plus the Lists of Acceptable
Documents.
The form may take a few seconds to print as it generates a QR
code.
The signature and date fields in Section 2 must be signed and
dated by hand by the person who physically examined the
employee's documents and completed Section 2.
Those fields cannot be filled on a computer.
We hope this video helped you understand how to complete
Section 2 of a Form I-9 obtained from the USCIS website.
You can find instructional videos for Sections 1 and 3 also
on this page.
If you still have questions, visit the I-9 Central.
Thank you for watching.
Now, we'll discuss how employers complete Section 3
of Form I-9 to reverify or rehire an employee.
Employers must use Section 3 to reverify an employee's work authorization
if the employee presented an employment authorization document
that contained an expiration date when it was originally verified.
Employers should never reverify U.S. citizens,
noncitizen nationals or lawful permanent residents
who presented a Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551).
Also, employers should never reverify List B documents.
However, employers may need to reverify a lawful permanent resident
who presented either a receipt for a Form I-94, Arrival/Departure Record,
or a foreign passport with a temporary Form I-551 stamp
or machine-readable immigrant visa.
Employers may also use Section 3 to update name changes,
or when they rehire someone within 3 years
of the date of initial completion of Form I-9.
Employers may also choose to complete a new Form I-9.
Enter the employee's name at the top of page 2, in case the pages are separated.
Completing Form I-9 on a computer may help you
enter this information more easily.
The next chapter will show you how to
complete Section 3 using a computer.
Next, we will explain the acceptable documents employees
may present to establish identity and work authorization.
Employers must allow employees to choose which document
or documents they wish to present
from the Lists of Acceptable Documents on page 3.
The document(s) must reasonably appear to be genuine
AND relate to the individual presenting it.
In most cases, documents presented must be unexpired and original.
See I-9 Central for more information on presenting expired documents.
Except for certified copies of birth certificates, no photocopies are acceptable.
In some cases, employees can present an acceptable receipt in place of
an actual List A, List B or List C document, including:
1. A receipt showing that they have applied to REPLACE
a required document that has been lost, stolen or damaged.
The employee must present the actual replacement document
within 90 days of their hire date.
2. If the individual is a lawful permanent resident,
the arrival portion of the Form I-94 or Form I-94A that includes
an unexpired "Temporary I-551" stamp and his or her photo.
This receipt is valid until the expiration date of the Temporary I-551 stamp or
if no expiration date, one year from date of issue.
3. The departure portion of Form I-94 or Form I-94A with
a refugee admission stamp if the employee indicated he or she is an alien authorized to work.
The employee must present an unexpired EAD (Form I-766) or a combination of
a valid List B document and an unrestricted Social Security card within 90 days of their hire date.
Employers may NOT accept a receipt that shows that an employee
has applied for an INITIAL employment authorization document.
Employers must not accept receipts if employment will last less than 3 business days.
Once completed, employers will need to store all Forms I-9.
They may be stored onsite, off-site,
at a storage facility or electronically.
Employers must keep Forms I-9 and document copies together.
Employers are also required to store Form I-9 pages that
contain employee or employer information,
as well as related preparer or translator information, and signatures.
Employers should ensure that all forms and any documents
are stored securely, so that only authorized
personnel have access to them.
Make sure they are easily retrievable in case you
need to make them available for inspection by officials.
In this chapter, we'll cover requirements for retaining Form I-9.
Employers must have a Form I-9 on file for all current employees.
However, even after an employee leaves,
the employer must retain the employee's Form I-9
for a certain period of time.
Employers must continue to keep Forms I-9 for 3 years
after the date of hire OR 1 year after the date employment terminated;
whichever is later.
Use this formula to calculate the retention date.
Let's discuss what to do if a Form I-9 needs to be corrected or is missing.
If an employer discovers a mistake on a Form I-9,
the employer or employee must correct the existing form.
The employer must also decide to complete a new Form I-9.
To correct an existing Form I-9, draw a line through the incorrect information.
Do not white out or blacken out any of the information.
Then, enter the correct information, and initial and date the correction.
If the employer decides to complete a new Form I-9 instead,
the employer should use the most current version of Form I-9,
keep it with the old form,
and attach a short memo to both the new and old Forms I-9
stating the reason for completing the new form.
It's a good idea to conduct regular internal audits.
Employers who discover they are missing a Form I-9 for an employee should:
1. Immediately provide the employee with the most current version of Form I-9
2. NOT backdate Form I-9 when signing it.
3. Attach a memo to the new form to document their actions
for proof of compliance to show good faith.
Using E-Verify after completing Form I-9 lets employers
take the employment verification process a step further
to ensure they are hiring a legal workforce.
E-Verify is an Internet-based system that electronically verifies
Form I-9 information using government records to
confirm employment eligibility for newly hired employees.
To enroll, go to uscis.gov/E-Verify;
under Start Here, click Enroll in E-Verify.
We've covered a lot of information.
If you still have questions, please visit I-9 Central,
a very helpful resource for completing Form I-9,
available in English and Spanish.
You can also email us at I-9Central@dhs.gov.
And be sure to subscribe to our e-newsletter,
the E-Verify Connection, by emailing
E-VerifyOutreach@dhs.gov
and typing SUBSCRIBE in the subject line.
Here are your main points to remember:
Employers must complete Form I-9 for all employees,
regardless of citizenship or immigration status.
Employees must complete and sign Section 1
no later than the first day of work for pay.
Employers must complete Section 2 within 3 business days
of the employee's first day of work for pay.
Employers or their authorized representatives must
physically examine the documents the employee chooses to present
from the list of acceptable documents on page 3 of Form I-9.
This person is the one whose information and signature appear in Section 2.
Employers must accept documents employees present
as long as they reasonably appear to be genuine
and to relate to the person presenting them.
Employers must have a Form I-9 on file for each current employee.
Once the employee is terminated,
forms must be stored for 3 years from the first day of employment,
or 1 year from the date of termination, whichever is later.
Employers MUST securely STORE Forms I-9, along with any document copies.
E-Verify lets employers take the employment verification process one step further,
to help ensure that they're hiring a legal workforce.
To enroll, go to dhs.gov/E-Verify;
under Start Here, click Enroll in E-Verify.
This concludes the webinar.

Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois tells fans to forget David De Gea: I'm the best goalkeeper
The Chelsea stopper already boasts a glittering CV despite still being just 25 years old.
He played a key role in the Blues' Premier League title win last season and cemented himself as an elite keeper.
While the likes of Manuel Neuer and David De Gea are still starring at the highest level, Courtois says he must believe that he is better than anyone.
Courtois told Sky Sports: Yeah, I think obviously I feel like that, you have to have the self-belief that you are the best, thats important to have that mind-set.
Obviously there are other great goalkeepers, so its not for me to judge who is the best, but obviously I feel the best because that has to be your mind-set.
I think every great player in the world, and every great goalkeeper in the world will have that mind-set, and it should be like that.
I try to work every day very hard to become better and better..
Chelsea claimed a late draw away to Liverpool on Saturday and take on Swansea at Stamford Bridge tonight.
The Blues are currently 11 points adrift of league leaders Manchester City but Courtois believes they are not out of the title race yet.
He added: "I think all games coming up are must-win games, I think if you are 11 points behind City,
you have to keep winning and hope they lose some points.
For us they are must-win games. If you want to play to win the title, those games you have to win of course.
We are still there in it, but it depends on ourselves, we need to keep winning and see what others do.
"At the moment City are playing well and winning, so you have to hope that they drop points, and that you yourself keep on winning.
I think we have tough fixtures, but obviously not against the top six, so they are games we have to win and to get a winning run.

How Mosquitoes Might SAVE Lives, Thanks To Bacteria | I Contain Multitudes - Duration: 9:04.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
ED YONG: Mosquitoes are...
[Mosquito buzzing, smack]
Mosquitoes...
[Mosquito buzzing, smack]
Mosquitoes are a scourge.
They annoy us, they suck our blood,
and they spread all kinds of horrible diseases.
[Mosquito buzzing]
Of the thousands of species of mosquitoes
one of the worst from our perspective
is called Aedes aegypti.
There is something almost beautiful about the way
Aedes aegypti feeds and fills up with blood.
But these things also spread the viruses
that cause diseases like yellow fever, Zika, and dengue fever.
And dengue infects 400 million people
around the world every year.
They're afflicted by severe joint and muscle pains.
Fevers.
Rashes.
Headaches.
Many of them die.
There is a long history of trying to control mosquitoes
by draining wetlands, using bednets, spraying them
with insecticides.
All of these measures are imperfect,
and some can be hazardous.
Scott O'Neill, a microbiologist at Monash University
in Australia, had a new idea for how to protect
the world from dengue fever.
SCOTT O'NEILL: When you explain that you're working on dengue,
everybody's got a personal story about, you know,
being sick themselves, or a child,
or knowing somebody that's sick.
So, you've spent
--years and years and years
trying to find ways of stopping Aedes aegypti from spreading
the viruses behind diseases like dengue fever.
And your big idea is to inject them
with a bacterium from the group Wolbachia.
SCOTT: Yeah, so Wolbachia I've been
fascinated with for many years, ever since I
learned about Wolbachia.
Hey me too!
In fact, if I had to pick my favorite group of bacteria,
it would probably be Wolbachia.
These things live inside the cells of insects,
and something like forty percent of arthropod species
carry Wolbachia, which means it's
arguably one of the most successful groups of microbes
on the planet.
But, Wolbachia only passes down the female line.
Males are a dead end to it, and it has
many ways of dealing with them.
In some species like the beautiful blue moon butterfly,
it kills male embryos outright so that the adult population
can have a hundred females for every male.
In others, like wood lice or pill bugs
it actually transforms males into females.
And this thing is so good at manipulating
the sexual lives of its hosts that it spreads like wildfire.
Which incidentally is why Scott O'Neill is so interested in it.
So how could we harness that ability of Wolbachia
to spread into insects to do something good for us?
ED: So Scott set out in search of a way of using Wolbachia
to keep Aedes mosquitoes from spreading dengue viruses.
He started when the first George Bush was still President,
and he tried a dozen tricks including genetic engineering,
but nothing seemed to work.
But then you had a lucky break.
Yeah, something dropped out of the blue
from Seymour Benzer's lab in Caltech.
ED: Now most people haven't heard of Seymour Benzer,
but he was a titan of 20th century science.
He was one of the first to look at the link between genetics
and behavior and his animal of choice was the fruit fly.
SCOTT: He found a strain of Wolbachia in the fruit fly...
ED: It causes the neurons in the insects head to explode -
[Flies buzzing, corn popping]
SCOTT: Like a bag of microwave popcorn.
[Mosquito buzzing, corn popping]
ED: So they named the strain "popcorn".
SCOTT: It was one of those rare light bulb moments.
We could stop disease transmission
without needing to genetically engineer Wolbachia,
without needing to do any fancy tricks.
ED: If the mosquitoes were infected with popcorn
they would die before getting a chance
to spread the viruses into people.
But remember: Wolbachia only transmits
from mothers to offspring.
Which means that if you want to infect Aedes with Wolbachia,
you need to inject the bacteria directly
into a mosquitos embryo.
You know, a young embryo is a very delicate thing.
So a way to think about this is to imagine
a balloon full of water that you need
to insert a knitting needle into that
and then pull the knitting needle out
and the balloon can't break.
[Stretching rubber, water balloon popping]
That's a difficult thing to do.
Very few people in the world can do it, uh, reliably,
and I think we've gotten better over time,
but it's a certain skill.
You need dexterity, patience, obsession.
It's like the art of science.
But after all that work the team discovered
that their plan had a fatal flaw:
popcorn was just too virulent.
It was killing mosquitoes before they had a chance to reproduce,
so if ever unleashed into the wild it just wouldn't spread.
[Mosquito buzzing, corn popping]
And that was a crushing blow.
You know I think we were all ready to give up.
But then you finally had a spot of good luck?
Yeah the sequence of events were quite incredible for us.
Some of his colleagues made a really surprising discovery
about Wolbachia.
They found that the bacteria can actually
prevent the growth of viruses in the insects that it infects.
Now they found that in fruit flies-- so the question was,
would it also do the same in mosquitoes?
SCOTT: And so we took these mosquitoes
that, that had popcorn in them and we infected them
with dengue virus to see what would happen.
And we actually found Wolbachia would prevent the viruses
from growing, and if these viruses
can't grow in the mosquito then it can't be transmitted.
It meant that the team didn't need popcorn at all.
Almost any strain of Wolbachia would stop Aedes
from spreading dengue virus.
It was that sort of feeling.
You know when you've been working on something
that doesn't work and then suddenly you
get a big breakthrough.
[Swarm of mosquitos buzzing]
Finally, after decades of effort it
was time to release those mosquitos and their microbes
into the world.
So, Scott.
This plan involves asking people to release mosquitoes
that you've loaded with a microbe that's
really good at spreading rapidly,
and those mosquitoes will probably bite them,
and no one has ever done anything like this before.
Was it hard to convince people to do this?
People are frightened of dengue and they're
frightened of the impact it might have on their children,
they're frightened that they can't
control transmission of it.
Everybody knows people that have been terribly sick from dengue.
People are desperate for a solution.
I think that helps facilitate them
coming on the journey with us.
[Swarm of mosquitos buzzing along to music]
ED: Since 2011 Scott's team have set up trial tests
in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia,
Columbia, and Brazil.
Their mosquitos have spread Wolbachia as they predicted,
but the big question remains.
Has the number of dengue cases actually gone down?
Those experiments are long.
Probably we will get the results in two or three years.
But, in every location that we've
put it out now even though all these locations are relatively
small, we're not seeing any disease transmission
occurring in those communities.
Scientists are still figuring out
the details of how Wolbachia blocks
the transmission of viruses.
But they know that it's not just Dengue.
It's also the viruses behind Zika, yellow fever,
and chikungunya.
And they're trying to use bacteria
to control other insect pests--
like the tsetse flies that spread sleeping sickness,
and bedbugs.
I hate bedbugs.
This is just part of a whole new approach
to thinking about microbes, and realizing that they not
only kill, they can also save.

The Lean Startup - 5 Keys to a Successful Minimum Viable Product Launch - Duration: 5:20.
So you're planning to launch a product?
A Minimum Viable Product.
Excellent.
Here are FIVE things that you need to know.
And stick around to the end for your FREE Lean Startup Cheat Sheet
My name is Gary Straughan
This is Development That Pays
Just over a month ago, our adventure into Lean
- that's "Lean" as in "The Lean Startup"
reached an interesting stage.
I launched a product.
A Minimum Viable Product.
The "Course of Some Kind" crystalised into
"Scrum vs Kanban - the Mini-course".
Here are FIVE things that I learned along the way.
1: Launch before you're ready
Are you the kind of person that hears
"Done Is Better Than Perfect"
or "Shipping beats perfection"
And thinks:
Really?
Are you sure?
If so, you're in good company.
Hello.
My name is Gary.
I'm perfectionist.
October was hell for me.
My task was take existing material and to repurpose it into a mini-course.
That doesn't sound like a recipe for torment.
But the more I worked on the course, the less I liked it.
I wanted to rip it up and start again.
If this sounds like you, then take a note from Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIn
"If You're Not Embarrassed By The First Version Of Your Product, You've Launched Too Late"
So pick and date.
And launch.
Before you're ready.
Bonus Tip:
Set things up so that the date can't be moved.
I wrote the launch into an episode of Development that Pays.
At that point, I was committed.
2: Remember that there are more moving parts than you think.
Your focus will the on the product.
That's only natural.
But a product won't launch itself.
I had my three videos.
I also had an email service capable of sending time-delayed emails.
Three videos.
Three emails.
Simples.
But it's probably not a great idea to send people direct to the video;
I'll need a page for each of them
And I'm going to need a form - so that people can sign up.
And the form is going to need page to "live on".
And….
I think you get the message.
3: Launch to a limited audience
Although it's important to launch before you're ready,
you don't have to be damn fool about it:
Not everyone has to see your "warts and all" version.
So launch… but make it a soft launch.
Wikipedia defines a soft launch as
a preview release of a product or service to a limited audience prior to the general
public.
In the case of the "Scrum vs Kanban the Mini Course", I "hid" the announcement
in a "regular" Development That Pays episode.
Only people that watched one particular episode to the 4 and half minute mark
got to see the link.
4 - Be ready to make running repairs
So launch day rolls around
You push the Big Green Button and breath a sigh of relief.
But don't relax too much!
To paraphrase a movie quote
Any time you launch a product
you got fifty ways you're gonna **** up.
If you think of twenty-five of them, then you're a genius... and you ain't no genius.
Well you may be you are a genius.
I am not.
A genius would not have
put out a video with TWO audio tracks.
A genius would not have forgotten to tell people
about the one day gap between lessons.
So expect things to go wrong….
And be at the ready to make running repairs.
5 - Remember that it's an experiment
It bares repeating:
Remember that it's an Experiment.
This one cuts two ways.
It's a reminder not to over-egg the pudding.
This is a Minimum Viable Product, not a Final Perfect Product.
It's also a reminder to measure.
Remember that your Minimum Viable Product is part of the Build Measure Learn loop.
And if you don't measure, you won't learn.
We'll get to cheat sheet in a moment,
But first a reminder of the five points:
1. Launch before you're ready 2. There are more moving parts that you think
3. Launch to a limited audience 4. Be ready to make running repairs
5. Remember that it's an experiment
If you're interested in the Lean Startup
I have a rather lovely cheat sheet for you

LEGO Downtown Diner 2018 set - The Best LEGO Modular Building? - Duration: 3:27.
Hello, just2good here,
and LEGO just revealed the 2018 Modular Building set -
the Downtown Diner, which will retail for 170 bucks,
and releases January 1st, 2018.
And, in my opinion, this may be the best looking modular yet.
It's also a little bit of a depature from the other modular buildings,
a new take in a way,
fitting for a style that seems to be a few decades after all the previous ones.
Let me set up the context for you.
The peak of modulars was 2014 to 2015,
with the Parisian Restaurant and Detective Office.
But then, in 2016, we had the Brick Bank,
which was a good set,
but nowhere near the level of those two before it.
And, I could say the same with the Assembly Square,
it was good,
but not anything that could compare to those two great ones from before.
But this.
This is a return to the greatness.
This is incredible.
It's simple but like the Detective's Office and Parisian,
it stands out on a shelf -
I would even say moreso than any other modular.
Those bright colors that almost give me a Paradisa slash Miami Vice feel
and that Dinner sign definitely help, but gosh,
I love the design that captures that 50s Diner with all those curves,
with the first level roof and the skylight window.
And dang, still looming on the exterior,
the apartment building section looks great -
I love the studs not on top technique where they use tiles for the walls,
the roof with the handle bars and hinge mix,
and even the little details,
like the reverse 2x2 bumper pieces for windows at the side of the skylight window.
For the interior, the first floor is the diner,
and gosh, I love the essentials of any dinner which this knocks out.
The serving counter, a coffee machine, a gumball machine,
an awesome counter grill that reminds me of Steak 'n Shake,
and booth and a jukebox.
The second floor is a classic weight room,
with a punching bag and boxing ring -
that's new for LEGO!
The third floor is a recording studio.
I love that printed Rock and Roll vinyl,
and the reocrding booth.
The roof has a nice standing area,
which you can get to from a little door and the back alley,
which has lots of little pathways - something I love.
I like how they changed up the stair case as well,
using this interesting railing style.
The car is nice as well,
such a step up from that terrible one in the Palace Cinema.
It's not overtly long, just the perfect size,
and the pink works with that pastel-esque aesthetic of the building.
Alright, so I'm praising this, but what do I not like?
Well, to start out - the tan the apartment like part.
Why tan?
Insert the Gnajbricks meme here,
but it just clashes with the nice Paradia-like pink,
teal, and white.
The grey used is minimal beisdes the pathway,
which that all makes sense to use grey.
But the tan, in my opinion, it should've been white.
It just fits more and doesn't distact
from the awesome curved design of building and the sign,
unlike the tan, which just distracts from it.
Then, the minifigures.
Look, like I said before,
this is a new take on the modular buildings line.
But why did they drop the classic smiley,
which is a standard for all modulars since the second one?
Look at this picture.
Even with the more modern design of the diner,
the only thing that's a clash is the minifigures.
And, y'know, some of the minfigures have exclusive face prints in this set.
In particular I love this rocker's singing face,
and this girl's sweating face.
They're pretty specific and useful new faceprints,
but gosh, it just ruins the consistency of the modular line,
and I worry we won't see the classic smiley yearly anymore.
Other than that like I said,
this could be the best modular yet.
I will be buying this on release, I believe.
It's only 170 bucks, so I'll probably use up all my Christmas money.
Anyways, what do you guys think?
Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
I'll see you guys later.
Peace out.
Bye.

Morning Conversations with Jim Self and Roxane Burnett - The Power of Hello - Duration: 10:24.
Jim we've been on this roll. We talked about these qualities in the Third Chakra:
power, control, resistance, and judgment. And then last week we talked about being
on the edge and reacting and I know with the mastering alchemy tools there's one
tool, one concept that kind of opens the door to remove the "us versus them" thing.
So let's let's talk about that one word. So this space we've been talking about
for the three weeks now is: there's a transition. This is a Shift, this isn't
going away, this whole structure. And it's creating an off-balance-ness in people.
And the off balance-ness is such that it's creating the "me versus you" and to "them
and us" and the need to tighten up and protect myself. Survival. Survival. All
of it is about closing down and protecting. And the reality is
everybody's the same. Everybody is, has needs, has wants.
Everybody simply wants to be happy. Yeah, I think people are people. People are
people. So when this whole nature of "us and them", walls begin to draw and you've
seen it all through history where it comes and goes, it ebbs and flows, it
tightens down into a Machiavellian type of "we are gonna kill those off because
they're not like us" or-- We've seen it all along. But there's really one word in our
reality, the most important word there is and the word is hello. Hello I see you.
Hello can I be of assistance, hello I'm opening up communication to you. And,
really simple, if you think about how we walk down the street where lots of other
people walking down the street. And nothing's said. People just walk right past
each other, oblivious. But if you play the game of just simply looking at somebody
I mean looking at them and saying, "Hello" you
startled them and they always, virtually always anyway, say hello back. It's a
reaction, hello. And if they don't greet, if they don't respond it's they're still
jarred like, wow someone said hello to me!
Nobody says hello. What do I do? I don't know what to do. So they go into that
again that survival space so, I don't know what to do. But this word hello
provokes communication and when you start to recognize that other person
with the capacity to think differently than you and the potential that what
they have to offer is really pretty exciting. You know it's like only eating
hamburgers and then being introduced to great Italian food or Chinese food and,
you no, no, no, no. It's like whoa, this is really good. Hello. And that's really kind
of how it plays out. This last week I had this experience where total, total
illustration of this: I walk into a clothing store that I'd not been before
beautiful stuff in there. But I walk in and the owner, this woman comes up to me
with no hello and she says oh look at all this great
stuff we have. Here, you would look good in this, you would look in that, how
come you're not picking stuff up? The energy was not hello it was buy my stuff,
buy my stuff. But no recognition of you. Oh, no. You know, it's, I could
have left, and I mean I left and she had no memory of who I was. But but that non
hello was a turn-off. Yeah sure. I had a circumstance like that one time where I--
Where I wasn't even thinking about buying a house but I had the resources and I
didn't have a house and I needed to move but the mindset was: I'll rent something.
That was when I was younger and money didn't make any sense to me. Money still
doesn't make sense to me. But this woman said, "Well why don't you buy a house?" "No."
Remember we had the conversation but you can always go to no but you can't always
go to yes. This is a classic one. And she didn't really hear the no but she kind
of said, "Hello who are you, what are you doing here,
what are you all about, have you ever bought a house?" Now my defensiveness or
my ignorance or my uncertainty was: I'm in communication with somebody and no I
really haven't bought a house for a long time. And she said you know the market's
changed. And also she's informing me but not selling me and by the time we
got done it was like, this is crazy not to buy house. I mean and I wound up
ultimately buying a house. But if I stayed at my no, non-hello, non
communication, okay stop selling me, I'm out of here,
I'd probably still be renting today, Yeah. So that hello, when it's done in a "I see you"
It's even: I see how great you are, let's see who you are as a spirit not as a
human in a body. Now that's an elevated step. It's like, Hello I see you, it's
really, the key to it is you being present. I see you. It starts with an "I", you know
I am right here, hello. That space is an internal alignment it's not just a, "Oh hi,
how you doing?" It's a connection, it's a recognition, it's a validation, it's an
engagement, it's a communication. And I think that's how Mastering Alchemy works
because everything we do, from putting a new item in the store, having a phone
call, everything is based on hello. Hello I see how great you are. Yeah for Mastering
Alchemy, the same point ,which isn't the topic, we literally structured Mastering
Alchemy intentionally in the word 'hello.' And we set it at the color blue which is a
whole nother interesting way of saying hello to somebody, matching their energy.
I see you where you are, and uplifting. But Mastering Alchemy-- there's no
boundary. People come, people go, people bounce off the blue, they bounce off the
hello, they pass right through it, some stay, some leave, there's no sell. Yeah.
It's a "Hello." That's all. This is what's here. Hello.
And it's been remarkably successful because that hello is to the heart. And
it has no strings attached, no agenda. No agenda. And quite often you realize: this
is a person in need. I had an experience just in the last few weeks where I was
at a Whole Foods in the morning and there was a Muslim woman, maybe 50, 60
years old all dressed in her, her, her scarf and clothing. And just looking at
her eyes you could see this woman was confused,
she was uncertain, she was very much in some level of need, but she was very
tight because she didn't know how to ask, she didn't fit in.
And it was really clear she was in need and I literally walked over there and
said, "Can I help you? Are you lost?" And she said very quietly, "I have no food." And it
wasn't like the person with the sign saying you know, anything you can do, this
woman was genuinely a person in need. And it was really easy to reach in my pocket
and pull out the first bill which happened to be a 20, and say, "Here. Go get some food."
Did I miss the 20? No. It was a Hello. Did it make a difference to that woman's face?
Absolutely. That level of saying hello and assisting
is what's going to break down the walls in these divides we've talked about in
the last two weeks. The uncertainty, I'm better than you, you, you threatened me.
This word hello has got to be understood and applied if this transition is going
to be navigated smoothly. And it's not it's not just for the person you're
saying hello to, it feels really good. And it's for you. The hello is opening The. hello
provides the opportunity to buy that house. The hello basically says I see you,
what do we have in common and what don't we have in common and how do you and I
begin to navigate and uplift the world in manners that are empowering to
people? This is a spiritual transition into
well-being and in that fifth dimensional space safety doesn't exist. Trust is not
even a word because there is nothing unsafe and nothing to distrust. Now think
about that. What would that do to you if you had an environment where you are
completely safe? Well you would start to be amused, you would have fun, you would
begin to be open and expanding. Opportunities would be there, not to
argue with but to be absolutely enamored by. What if you lived a life
where everything was like, "Wow this is possible, I can do this,
this is who I am." Starts with hello. Mm-hmm. Really important word. That's all
I know. Hello. Hello I see how great you are. Yes
and I see how wonderful you are. So we'll kind of move on in the next couple of
weeks with different topics, but these three topics that we've just talked
about in the last three weeks are very key to your navigating this journey
through this transition. So enjoy.
you

From angry to compassionate activist - Duration: 18:32.
Hi I''m Gabriela and I recently recorded a live video in my facebook group
Conscious Raw Vegans and in this video I will talk about our inner angry vegan,
our inner angry activist, and what we can do, how we can shift our focus away from
anger and aggression towards a place of love and compassion where we can inspire
others to follow us on our journey rather than blame those who aren't on
our journey yet. So i hope you enjoy this video – here goes
Hi everybody and welcome to today's video> As you may know I do a video every
friday at 2 o'clock in this group (Conscious Raw Vegans). My name is Gabriela Lerner, for those of you
who haven't met me before, and I'm the host of this group Conscious Raw Vegans
and so today's topic. I just want to talk a little bit about our inner angry vegan
or if you are not a vegan then perhaps our inner angry self because there's
always something to be angry about and particularly when we're trying to live a
really conscious life. You know, I mean just as a quick example. I was at the
market yesterday and I tried to take as much kind of bags and things that I can
possibly take to not have to ask the market people to give me bags and I was
on the store with a lady and she, she felt exactly the same and very quickly
we were into this little rant. The rant about people who don't do it, so, you know
we're the enlightened one, we're the conscious one, we're taking our own bags!
But oh there are so many people who aren't. And I kind of noticed that, but
there was something even much stronger that I
noticed and realized and that was the night before when after a day of being
bombarded with emails from Avaaz from 38 Degrees from Care or and all
those other organizations who are doing this amazing work of creating petitions, so
that we the public's voice can be heard. You know, I had all these emails coming
in about this article that had been removed from UK law which was about
recognizing animals as sentient beings. And to acknowledge that they need to
be treated as such. And right at the end of the day I found a Facebook post which
asked us to write to our MPs and tell them that we do not agree with this and
there were a lot of comments about, you know, "that's crazy, they're stupid, how
dare they, idiots, asshole", was one of them. And
frankly I got quite drawn into the anger about it all and and also this kind of
notion of "oh, you know, it's, you know, these people who just don't get it!"
Politicians, you know, far removed from reality, just make decisions based on
what they.. what serves them. All those kind of preconceived notions ideas and
assumptions that I have were muddled up with this angry feeling. So I, you know,
instantly copied the post, created a new post and expressed my own upset about it
which then of course caused a whole other lot of comments
that were, some of them were, yeah they were basically expressing a sense of
outrage. And now I wanted to talk about this a little bit because what it
actually does is, it creates a separation between us and them, between me and the
others, and it's not very helpful. Frst of all it doesn't make us feel good, it
makes us very upset and very angry, and that anger if expressed, actually if it is
expressed publicly - not say you should swallow your anger or that anger,
righteous anger doesn't have a place. But if we express it with outrage in the way
we often do, attacking the others who are doing it, we're actually creating more of
the same where is our compassion in that. Where's our understanding in that.
I read something really interesting last night in one of Neale Donald Walsch's
books "Awakening Of The Species", and right at the end it says that everybody loves
something and everybody acts because of that love they have for something. And
that's a really kind of, you know, odd idea to get your head around, because you
think, yeah, well, but what about the murderers and what about those people
who, create atrocities what about Trump? What about you know
people who are horrible to us? And yes it doesn't mean that we agree or like or
even accept those actions, but it really helps to understand that those people
also love something and often they're fanatic or misconceived in as far as
we're concerned, as far as I'm concerned I mean, I can't speak for you.You might
have completely different ideas. But as far as I'm concerned. Wrong actions do
come from a place of them loving something. And that might be the love for
profit or power or things like that and so carrying on with what I read in
Awakening Of The Species, was that everybody loves something but a lot of
people don't know how to actually love and so the love gets attached to stuff,
to things, to power, to how we're seen in the world world, and then actions arise
out of that. But I want to come back to what happened with this article that was
removed, and actually now today we had the news that the government says: no no
no no no we do recognize that animals are sentient beings, and we do understand
that they need to be treated as sentient beings, and and I don't know
whether this was because of the public outcry or whether we had it
misunderstood in the first place and it doesn't really matter actually.
What matters is that they have now stated that animal welfare is
top of their priorities and will be addressed and and that's really all we
want, isn't it we want that to be part of government policy. But what have we
created with our outcries? I mean, I saw comments that said they should
be cattle prodded, they should, somebody said, we should shoot them. Lots of people
used abusive words like asshole, idiots morons, and I'm not saying those
words don't cross my mind. I am the first to admit that I was so so angry
that night and I actually posted my facebook post without too much
consideration and I don't want to do this. I want to really think
about what I'm posting and I want to give it time. And that night when I was
so angry I would have I should have really just stopped and said okay I'm
gonna respond to this in the morning after I've had a good night's sleep. And
have really thought this through, done my research, and then come from a place of
informed choice, rather than an instant reaction to an angry feeling. And to me
that is part of conscious living, whether we're vegans, whether we're non-vegans,
whether we're political activists or human rights activists or no
activists. I really want to improve our consciousness, our conscious thinking, our
conscious acting, the way we show up in this world to come from a place of
thoughtfulness and compassion and kindness and love. And that must include
a compassion for those who we consider to be wrongdoers.
So perhaps the way forward is not to call the perceived wrongdoers names and
to threaten them, even just in our mind with death and abuse and whatever, but
that we just look at the act we you know we kind of know and recognize and speak
out about the wrongness of the act. But we do not show aggression or violence
verbally or in action towards those that we perceive as wrongdoers. And see how
I'm kind of really carefully skirting around even the use of the words. It's so
hard, you can tell it's hard for me. It's hard for me to say
perceived wrongdoers, because obviously my initial reaction is those who
mistreat animals are in the wrong. And what we need to say is: those acts of
violence towards animals are wrong. We don't know what motivates the people who
do it. I read an interesting article the other day about a daughter of a
dairy farmer who publicly spoke out about the cruelty of dairy farming,
and how she never questioned that when she was a child. She just grew up with it,
she was never really looking into what was actually going on and it was only
now that she realized how, what her whole family, her grandparents, her
great-great parents, uncles, that were all farmers in the
dairy and beef industry. And how wrong she suddenly sees that is. But from her
article it becomes also really clear that her father loved the family and
what was driving him was to provide for the family. So in some way we can say he
acted from love and I would even go as far that he, from what she described,
really cared about the animals but didn't have the knowledge, didn't
understand the deeper meaning of abusing, you know, the life of a cow shortening,
their life, ongoing impregnation and you know the milking or all the
industry. I mean we know about this right or if we don't know about it find out
about it. But all the stuff that is wrong in dairy farming and what it actually
does however humane it's done, is it enslaves the animal. It makes the animal
worth less than our human life. And who are we to judge right, but who are we to
judge or decide that we can use an animal in this way but simultaneously
how can we judge the life of another person or the actions of another person.
Is that really our calling or is our calling to live consciously, to make
choices that are in line with our values. And sometimes it's hard to do you know I
mean look at reducing plastic how hard is that, but we can make a start can't we?
And we've already done it in many ways I think this is the exciting thing. It's
that, sometimes people say "oh it's so hard I can't do it" - Oh I can't
you know, eat healthily, I can't make the choice to eat only organic. All those
kind of choices that we maybe would like to make, but find quite hard to make.
But sometimes we do and when we do it we need to recognize that and say: today I
decided to buy organic lemons instead of ordinary lemons and that was a good
thing and that was in line with my my values and let's do more of that. So we
can look back at where we've actually acted from our consciousness
from our values and from our love for life as a as a whole. Universal
love. Those of you who've been in my programs and have heard me talk about
universal love, love that is is that we are all are and that we all have within
us and how we can really live from that place, know how much I love that
concept and how I really believe in it and you may or may not, but I know that
you're here and you're listening to this video because you care about the world.
You don't just care about your own health
you don't just care about the health of your family if you could wave a magic
wand you'd like everybody to be healthy, everybody to be happy, everybody to have
what they need, and nobody to have to suffer right? That's what we really care
about. So let's make small steps every day to create more of this in the world.
And I promise you that you will find it makes a difference in
your own life. So when next you find yourself outraged,
angered, don't push it away. Recognise that. Do not kind of just say
oh I need to think happy thoughts because it doesn't work like that.
You've got to recognise it, but you've got to almost step away a little bit
from it and say ok Here I am and I'm really
angry and I can see how this anger, if I put it out there into the universe, into
the world, on Facebook, on Twitter, on Instagram, it's gonna create more of the
same, because other people will join in and have the same argument, and conspire
with me in the angriness. When what I really want is for them to conspire with
me in the love and in the beauty and in the appreciation. And then at that
point you can step away, you can see how you're reacting you, can acknowledge that
anger, and then you can think about it. And then you can take action from a
place of love and compassion and kindness

Competition is not for God's Unique Creations - Duration: 3:50.
Hi there!
Today I'd like to read from the book of 2 Corinthians 10:12.
This is what the Holy Scripture says.
Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves.
But when they measure themselves by one another and c ompare themselves with one another,
they are without understanding. Amen!
Amen.
I just came back from a teen and youth retreat, and boy, did I have fun.
consciously or perhaps even unconsciously, they are being pitted against one another, to compete
consciously or perhaps unconsciously, they are being pitted against one another, to compete
and to out best each other.
I am not talking about competition in sports.
Let's think about this.
The moment we check our instagram, facebook, or snapchat, and we start seeing our friends' lives,
if we can be honest, before we hit the 'like' button, what goes on in our mind?
lives, if we can be honest, before we hit the 'like' button, what goes on in our
mind?
Our friends somehow always manage to look awesome in every picture they take and post.
Perhaps we see them eating in these fancy restaurants, posting foods that are both delicious
and beautiful, while we are stuck at home eating a cup noodle.
Maybe we see our friends go on amazing vacation in someplace warm , while we are stuck at
home waiting for cold winter to come.
Or perhaps we see our friends moving into bigger homes, driving nicer cars, working
in bigger companies, rocking a cool hairstyle and so on.
It is hard to escape the messages that tell us we are not good enough, cool enough, talented
enough, hip enough, smart enough, fast enough, successful enough, young enough, and rich
enough.
We are never enough.
The thing is, we should never feel that way.
Learning from Paul, he argues that we are being unwise when when we begin to classify
or compare ourselves.
We are created uniquely, and God sees us unique in our own special way.
Unique means without equal or rival.
When we understand this, just as we acknowledge how He sees and loves others, we embrace how
He sees and loves us.
Instead of comparing ourselves with others and feeling like we are never enough, we should
be looking to our strengths, our uniqueness, and be thankful for the gifts that God has
placed in our lives.
Each one of us is created with potentials.
Often times, we miss our own gifts and potentials because either we are so used to them or
we are too focused in seeing others' gifts, others' potentials, others' success.
Often times, we miss our own gifts and potentials because either we are so used to them or we
are too focused in seeing others' gifts, others' potentials, others' success.
Dear beloved, allow me to end with this thought.
Rather than giving your all just to compete and to go for what was perhaps never meant for you
and be frustrated, all stressed out and turned upside down by it, you can direct
and use that energy to discover, develop, and accomplish what is yours.
Amen!

Scorpio, Jupiter is helping you to give life a boost, and, from December 9 on, Mars will
give you even more strength.
You powerful guy!
Things get even easier by the end of the year because Mercury will be
walking straight, and the people in Capricorn will help you say what you want.
Flirting will run wild by this time.
My Tip: Caution!
Be careful not to believe anyone, okay?
Oh, your witchy side will be very strong and you must take advantage of that.
At the beginning of the month, Venus relieves financial stress, but Mercury might bring
back that bill you forgot to pay.
And don't give Christmas gifts to everyone you know, or buy stuff without knowing exactly
what you're taking home.
Your card this month is the "5 of Swords", saying that you should be aware not to be
led by pre-Christmas confusions; when in doubt, your intuition will give you the answers.
Well, if you're going to give everyone a Christmas gift, give one to me too!

and they spread all kinds of horrible diseases.
