Hi guys! How are you today? I hope you are doing super good and welcome to those who are new to my channel.
You can´t even imagine the place I am at right now.
I am in the land of the Scorpions, Durango!
I had said that this was the land of the Scorpions.
They have a hill that is made out of iron and lead.
It doesn´t have the same quantity as before.
In that hill, the Scorpions were located and because of the heat,
it caused them to reproduce more and more poisonous.
In fact, the Scorpion of Durango is the third most poisonous in the world.
The biggest Scorpion in the world was also captured here in Durango.
Many of the houses that are here have this waterway.
In them there are little animals similar to shrimp, but these have small antennas.
And the kids come here and fish them with a rope and a nut.
They put it in a tortilla and they eat it.
El Saltito!
Look my friends, I am with Pedro, he is our tour guide for today.
He has been a very good person with us.
This waterfall was formed with the impact of a meteorite.
But how did the water appear?
It´s one of the arms of the River Tunal. This river passes very close to San Juan del Río del Centauro,
and a deviation was made.
It´s a historical place for Durango right?
Yes. El Saltito is one of the most representative places for this city.
Four waterfalls in the column of the lower part.
It has also been used as a movie set.
The first movie of Adam and Eve was filmed here, in the lower part of this great river,
and recognized as El Saltito.
And there are so many more things to see. Let´s go!
Right now we are going to go taste 12 types of Mezcal.
Add me!
If we start speaking weird, don´t blame us. It´s part of the show.
Good afternoon!
Welcome to El Malpais. This is where the process of the elaboration of Mezcal begins.
The maguey we use is called Maguey Cenizo Durangensis.
It´s wild maguey.
And what you are seeing right now is a cooker.
This is where we cook the Mezcal.
We clean the cooker very well.
And then we add the firewood that we are going to use.
We stack it nicely and in the center we leave a mouth.
And that is where we are feeding the fire.
All these rocks are heated up. On top of the heated rocks we put the agave.
We cover it up with grass and a canvas.
It is left to cook from 3 to 4 days.
Alright, now let´s go over there.
As you can see, we chop them.
And with a shovel we insert them here already chopped,
coming out grounded as so.
Once grounded we put them in here. This is the fermentation area.
We fill those holes up that look like drawers and the fermentation lasts three days and three nights.
After the three days, we pass it over here where the man is covering up.
The other side is already on, he steps again and the first distillation begins called water wine.
He takes it off, and puts it back for the second distillation.
In the second distillation the water stays there, and we let the pure mezcal pass through over there.
Here is the area of barrels, where we rest and age it.
This is quiote of Mezcal and we are going to try it.
It´s good. It´s very strong.
Up! down! center! and in!
This is grape liquour.
It wasn´t so bad. It´s good. It´s not as strong as the pure Mezcal.
Here in the El Malpais you can try the drinks and you can also get food.
These are the gorditas. They are kind of different of how we use them in the north.
They are sealed up and have everything inside.
Valvina Gómez, she is in charge of the place.
What are the gorditas made out of? Because they are very good.
We gave you pork rind,
red and green picadillo,
rajas with cottage cheese
and beans with cheese. They are so good!
For all bad Mezcal, for all good too. If it doesn´t go away, you forget it!
The great Mezcal of Malpais.
Film of the Old West.
More than 167 movies have been filmed.
Celebrating the 60th anniversary of colume films in Durango,
the Rising Texas came,
or the Rangers of Texas. Durango, the land of the cinema, Durango film.
We are rich!
All these signs represent all the films that have been shot here.
They are everywhere in the park, it´s so cool! Really makes you feel like if you were in those Old West times.
We are in the museum of Popular Cultures.
I am with Ms. Sochi who will share with us some fun facts of the museum. As you can see, it is very colorful.
And why is that? Our ethnic groups really like colorful colors.
In some beginning it was said that it was because they wanted to imitate the colors of the ones that conquered
when they arrived. Their clothing is also very colorful
and they would dress that way to be seen by their gods.
This room is dedicated to craft awards.
It´s an annual contest elaborated by the coordination of Popular Cultures.
And the piece of art made by the winner stays inside of the museum.
Indigenous and Popular culture are in here, as long as the artist is born in Durango and the material that he or she
used to produce their handicraft is from Durango.
This is the common use of the Guaje. It is used as a container to drink water.
And how they personalize it with our ethnic groups.
Something very special in the museum that I really like is this mask.
Made out of dehydrated nopal.
This is a basketry room made with natural resources.
With this our ethnic groups make their furniture.
This is a ceremonial chair. Where the sorcerer Chaman sits when an important ceremony is taken place.
For them the sorcerer has the highest authority. The one that has the last saying is him.
You can see all of these fun facts here
there are so many more to discover in the museum
that is why we invite you to come to the museum of Popular Cultures in Durango. Goodbye!
The cathedral has a very interesting story because it talks about a nun named Beatriz.
She was in a convent and got out because she went after her parents that had died.
So she had been visiting the Cathedral, and doing stuff at home to pass the time.
She found a French soldier who was in a troop. He had been stabbed with a knife
and was scared, so he asked for help in one of the houses, which was Beatriz´s.
She helped, cured and hid him. They fell in love.
He wanted to leave out of fear of being caught and having them both killed.
When he left, he was caught and killed.
Beatriz found out she was pregnant and swore that he was going to come back.
Here in Cathedral she would go up on the left tower to get a better view of the whole city,
to wait for his arrival.
He never came back. They found her dead body, she had jumped off the building days before her baby was due.
And they say that she shows up every night in the left tower.
Meli tell on me if I am lying.
At night time Durango has a different view, yes or no?
Completely different view. So many lights!
It´s so beautiful, very colonial, everything is antique.
Such a calm place to be if you want to come with your family.
But they always want to crash us. And why is that? Because we cross when the light is green, but it doesn´t
but they want to crash us. They have to wait.
They have something in their DNA that makes them glow in the dark. No one knows why but it´s a characteristic of the Scorpion.
The people that hunt them down use an ultra violet light to do so.
These still have poison in them. The ones that are found in tacos and lollipops are obviously prepared,
so they can´t harm you.
Scorpion with chili.. yummy!
The tunnel of the mine. Armando is telling us that this tunnel is real right?
Yes. This tunnel was made during the times of the Christian war.
In 1926 to 1929.
Back then the fathers were chased and killed, that´s why these tunnels were made, to hide and transport them.
This tunnel connects with 3 temples, San Miguel Arcangel, Cathedral and Santana.
In the mines that they had, they would put jails to punish those who did not do as they were told.
Every person that was brought in here did not make it out alive. Because inside of it, there was a Scorpion.
The one that I was telling you about at the beginning.
One of them asked if they would grant his liberty if he made it. He asked for matches and a small bench.
He captured him and made it out alive.
You can imagine how scary it would be to be down here most of the time, so they would make their own altar
to pray to God to make it out.
How did they know when there was no more oxygen and had to evacuate the mine?
In the colonial times, when they were down here, they would use candles.
When the fire became less, it meant that there was no more oxygen, or that is was almost gone, so they had to leave.
Or they would also put canaries in cages.
If the canary died, that meant that there was no more oxygen, and they had to start running.
This lycanthrope used to exist. It was found here in a town called Nombre de Dios.
You can buy rocks that are brought in from the mine. I bought this one!
We invite you to come visit us in the tunnel of the mine, you are always welcome here.
Ride in tranvía around Durango!
Here is the waiting area to go on the cable car and we are next!
Alright, pay attention. We are going to start with a prayer.
Hi tito! (grandpa). We are in your home land tito, it is very beautiful!
After you get on the cable car, on the other side there is a small store with souvenirs and food. Melissa bought green obleas.
I bought this Scorpion clock.
And souvenirs that also have Scorpions in them.
A small cow boy boot that you can use for Mezcal shots, a typical drink here.
Any many other things, like Melissa´s obleas.
You have to come to the gazer up here. You come up in the elevator
and you will have an incredible beautiful and panoramic view of Durango.
My friends I am here with two gentleman in charge of the Secretary of Tourism of Durango, and they have a message for you.
