- Men who know me, who know my story,
have called me when they've experienced pain
in their testicle and said,
"Oh my God, what is this?
"What do I do?"
I was 24,
travelling by myself by car,
and then felt a blinding pain that I'd never felt before.
Pulled over, threw up.
That's not good.
I realized I needed to get to the next town
and find a hospital.
So they admitted me to emerg.
My pain was all through my abdomen.
They brought me in and said it sounds like kidney stones,
we're gonna put you on an IV.
It wasn't until about 6 o'clock
that they first thought
it might have been testicular torsion.
- Typically the testicles are fixed in place
within the scrotum,
but what can happen,
the testicle can actually get twisted.
It chokes off the blood supply to the testicle
and it results in pain.
So that's what testicular torsion is.
- And you basically have a six, seven hour window
when they can reverse it,
which is where that insane pain was.
- It can result in death
of the testicle.
(hosts laughing)
- Don't pause for that long on death, dude.
- Now that is a medical emergency.
If someone has acute onset,
suddenly a pain in the testicle,
they to go to an emergency department right away.
- I was whisked into surgery,
and they said "We'll open it up, and take a look,
"and if we can save it we'll save it,
"and if we can't we have to remove it."
I was thinking on one level,
hey, whatever you need to do to make this stop, do it.
And I'm thankful that I still have one ball.
- This app claims to be for all men.
It's an app for bros. (laughs)
- I've only got one ball.
And so there's increased sensitivity
in not the good, sexy way of sensitivity.
Moreso in the, be careful with that,
'cause I don't want that horrible thing to happen again.
I was lucky.
I could have had blood poisoning.
There was a risk if I'd gone much further,
it would have been much more serious.
But on the whole it worked out.

- The design of underwear has really changed over the years.
It used to be that kind of like that, Fruit of Loom,
classic, white brief.
And now it's a massive industry,
doing everything possible to make your package
look as flattering as possible.
People have such a intimate relationship
with they underwear that they wear.
I was just one of those kids that was happy to take it off.
I don't think that I ever grew out of that.
I used to go-go dance.
A lot of the underwear that I used to wear
when I was go-go dancing
was made by my artist friend Will Munro,
who has since passed away.
Will would repurpose found materials,
and create briefs out of them.
I had a Michael Jackson t-shirt that didn't fit me anymore,
and so he made me a cute pair of underwear.
Now it said Beat It across the ass
with Michael Jackson right in the middle.
He would make so many pairs,
and have art exhibitions.
It also seemed to be before the underwear industry
got so big and offered so much more variety,
so this was like,
an artist really taking these classic things
that are so intimate and connected to people's bodies,
and making them into something totally new and different.
I think that we still live in a world
of only white briefs.
As sexy as those can be,
I think that is pretty boring.
