Youtube daily report w Nov 2 2017

Hi this is Greg from OLA English with Greg. And welcome back to another lesson with

me. I hear students all the time saying that they need to improve their

listening skills, that they can understand their teacher but they can't

understand native speakers when they're speaking together. Well, in this video

we're going to be looking at a technique called connected speech. Connected speech

is a broad topic, really, but we're going to be looking at two specific techniques

that we always use in British English and they're really gonna help you

understand native English speakers better. So, if you want to understand

British English speakers more easily than you, my friend, are gonna love this video!

OK, two things before I start. First of all, thank you to Alvaro who actually

requested that I do a video on this topic. It's a topic I absolutely love so

thank you, Alvaro. It's a really great request and it's a really useful topic

for everybody. Also, I recommend you watch that video after this video because

that's another really great and popular video that I did to help you understand

British English speakers more easily. Alright, that video deals with the words

that we use, very specific words, slang words words that we shorten, that

you're not gonna learn in a textbook but that we use all the time. And in this lesson

we're talking about sounds, not words but sounds. Connected speech is something

that helps native speakers speak more fluently. We use it naturally, OK, for us

it's... it's completely normal and I'm sure in your language you have ways of

connecting speech as well. It basically helps us link one word to the

next and to do this we have many techniques. In this video I'm gonna talk

about two techniques and they both deal with the R. We have the linking... the

linking R and the intrusive R. Intrusive, OK, which I like to call

imaginary R and you'll find out why later. So first we're going to be looking

at the linking R sound. OK, first of all, to help me explain the linking R

sound let me explain to you that if a student asks me how they can sound more

like a British English speaker, OK, how they can have a British English

pronunciation, I always tell them that the number one thing they need to do is

to stop pronouncing the letter R everywhere because we don't do it.

This is what I mean. If you have a vowel and then an R, the R is silent in British

English. Alright. Not in American English, in American English you have -R sound,

which I can't do, but in British English it's completely silent. It is! Believe me!

Look at these examples: father, hare, there, for, her,

clear, tower. They're all silent! Again, listen: father, hare, there, for, her,

clear, tower. I didn't pronounce the R in any of these words and that's a great

technique if you want to sound more like a British English speaker. Now there's

one big exception to this rule and that exception is the linking R and this

means that if those words, if the vowel+R is followed by another vowel then we do

pronounce the R, OK? It helps us link one word to the next, so look at these

examples and listen to me pronouncing the R: Father-in-law. Father-in-law. OK,

not father-in-law, father-in-law, no, that sounds a bit more - - - father-in-law -

too robotic, OK? We want to sound natural, we want to sound fluent, so we say

father-in-law and by pronouncing the R it helps link father to the word in.

Father... father-in-law. Next example: I'm sure you've heard of the story of

the hare and the tortoise, the hare and the tortoise, OK? Not hare and the

tortoise, hare and the tortoise, yeah the hare and the tortoise. The hare is the

very fast rabbit, OK, and the tortoise. Next example: I'm

gonna use three of the words that I.. that I pronounced earlier. That's the

sentence. If I don't use the linking R I would

sound like this: there are four owls in her old barn.

There are four owls in her old barn. Yeah I'm a bit robotic when I speak like that.

That's not what we want! We want to sound natural so we use the linking R.

There are four owls in her old barn. There are, there are, there are four owls, owls,

there are four owls in her old, her old, her old barn.

There are four owls in her old barn. Perfect! Clear as water, clear as water.

And the famous sight to see in London is the Tower of London, the Tower of London,

Tower of London. OK, so in each of these cases we pronounce the R where we

usually don't but we do pronounce it to help us speak more naturally. Now the

second technique that I want to talk to you about is the intrusive R, the

imaginary R, and this is very similar to the linking R in that it helps us

speak more fluently, it helps us link one word to another,

word but there's one big difference. Let's look at some examples and you will

see what this big difference is. America is a big country, America is a big

country, America is, America is, I'm sounding... I'm having difficulty saying

that. It's not natural, so what we do is we put an imaginary R between the two

words. Honestly, it's crazy! So, instead of saying

America is, we say America is, America is, America is a big country. Donna and her

mother... OK? Donna ends in a vowel sound. And the first sound of the next word is

also a vowel: is. So instead of saying Donna is, we say

Donna is, Donna is. So we use this imaginary intrusive R between two

words when one word finishes with a vowel sound and the next word begins

with a vowel sound. More examples: a banana, a banana is a yellow fruit, a

banana is yellow fruit, banana finishes in a vowel sound, is begins with a vowel

sound, a banana is, a banana is a fruit. Pamela Anderson! Pamela Anderson, Pamela

Anderson. It's much easier to say Pamela Anderson than Pamela Anderson, Pamela

Anderson. And finally, I want to visit China and Vietnam, I want to visit China

and Vietnam, China and Vietnam, China and Vietnam. I want to visit China and

Vietnam. OK, I hope that hasn't blown your mind but it's a really, really important

technique for you to learn if you want to really understand what native

speakers are speaking. Of course, it's fantastic if you can use this yourself

when you're speaking English but I think the most important thing is that you

know that we do it and that you know to listen for these sounds and if

you do it's gonna help you improve your listening skills in English. OK for more

ways to improve your listening and speaking communication skills, check out

OnlineLanguageAcademy.com - that's my website, we teach conversation classes

via Skype with native English teachers and it's a fantastic way for you to feel

confident and start speaking more naturally and understanding more

naturally. Right, I'm Greg from OLA English with Greg, thank you so much for

being here, I hope this video has been useful for you. If it has please like,

please subscribe, and please share it with your friends. I'll see you in the

next video! Thanks again for being here and bye for now!

Scarti di lavorazione dei gamberetti: un ottimo substrato per la produzione di biogas - EN subtitles - Duration: 3:33.

Production of biogas from shrimp processing waste:

what was the aim of your study?

The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility

of using also this type of substrate to produce biogas,

and also to try to use a microbial community

reinforced by elements taken from natural ecosystems.

This would therefore boost the production of biogas

and would achieve a high concentration of methane

in the biogas from these waste products

through a bioaugmentation of the microbial community.

What was the methodology for the analysis?

We carried out the analysis on many levels

because we wanted to find out more about the production of methane

- what could be identified in the culture medium

in terms of the acids produced

as intermediates of the process.

And also, and this is the most innovative part of our work,

we set about investigating the cell density,

and therefore the size of the microbial community

and also the essential characteristics of the guild

that, inside the community, produces methane.

What were the results?

The most interesting results were

that we saw that it's possible to use this type of waste

and that, by conducting tests

and increasing the amount of substrate used,

we achieved a corresponding increase in the production of methane

with average values of 72%,

but also with peaks of 84%.

And that's a lot,

because we're now in the territory of biomethane production

and therefore of a methane that can contain only 3% carbon dioxide

- and obviously the richer the biogas is in methane

the less it has to be treated and cleaned to become biomethane

and the less this treatment costs.

And by increasing the quantity of substrate

we also see an increase in the microbial component

in terms of both cell density and micro-organisms.

These are precisely the micro-organisms used to produce methane,

being methanogens - archaea methanogens.

So can we also use chitinous waste to improve biogas production?

We probably can, yes,

and this is very interesting because Italy is a country

with a long coastline,

and along the coasts you find localised production

of shrimp-derived products.

Since there are also a lot of biogas plants scattered around

that very often have a shortage of waste products,

we now know that chitinous waste can also be used for this.

So instead of using materials derived from products of the land

we can also make more use of sea products.

Also because one of the inocula

that we use to enrich the microbial community

is derived from a salty, lagoon environment,

therefore we're not at all worried, let's say,

about a certain level of salinity

in the anaerobic management process.

Using Intrusive R and Linking R to Understand British English | Connected Speech - Duration: 10:11.

First, she 3D prints everything

then she resin casts the staff

and then she hand-carved extra details into the spear.

I took off the contacts because this right one

right now wow this is a day.

Goodbye hat.

First up, we've been meaning to feature

on this special episode, this Bewitching Morgana

by Sinrasti cosplay.

She's tall so she ran out of fabric

for the petticoat and had to wait for more

to come into stock. I've been there.

Waiting is the hardest part.

Some of you might have seen Sinrasti

in person during the NA LCS Spring Finals

in Vancouver, Canada. She was there cause she's from Canada.

Swapping a sniper rifle for a magic sniper rifle,

this Sorceress Caitlyn by DBR.

This concept is well thoughtout, with amazing particle effects

and animation sketches for all of her themed abilities.

Plus the gun looks like a gnarled old witches' broom.

I love the skulls, the sleeves, and the hat

makes me think she got sorted into Piltover.

This concept of Halloween Miss Fortune

by Wei EN made a big impact when it was first created

back in 2014, and many cosplayers

had taken to the challenge to craft

this concept into reality.

Kim On the Rocks captured the exaggerated

added some effects to turn this concept

from colorful and playful to gritty and realistic.

Melody put extra thought

into the candlefire element on the cosplay

making physical effects to replicate the fire.

Plus she gives it her all with the posing

Match of the Weekend: Athletic Club vs FC Barcelona - Duration: 4:02.

"It's a rather emotional game for me. Returning to San Mames has always been that way when

I've come back with other teams. Just don't mention my record, because it hasn't gone well!

We know who Athletic are, and they are a side who give their all and are extraordinarily strong at home.

Our intention is to win, despite the fact that I'm going home and they'll make it hard for me.

Regardless of this emotion, I'm at Barça now and we have to set out the game to win."

All eyes will be on Ernesto Valverde when FC Barcelona play Athletic Club away from home this weekend.

The former Athletic coach will return to San Mames. Bilbao was where he enjoyed success as both

a player and coach, and he comes back in charge of the LaLiga leaders.

On Matchday 9, the Catalans took their latest victory against Malaga and extended their best

ever start to the season, with 8 wins and 1 draw from 9 games so far this term.

"It's a good feeling. We feel good collectively, as a team. We have the intention of continuing to improve,

of getting better game by game and going for it, as it should be."

Valverde's side will be up against an Athletic Club far from in their best form.

Los Leones lost at Butarque against Leganes this past weekend and continue to fall

away from the European spots, after claiming just one win in their last six games.

"It's true that we're finding it hard to play fluidly. We're not finding that moment of confidence in

which we know the game is in our favour, and that we are going to get going and climb up the table.

On the contrary, it seems as if we are controlling games but that something could happen at any time.

In any case, there's a long way to go and we'll analyse what we need to improve.

We have to work and put in even more energy."

Energy is guaranteed from Iñaki Williams and Aritz Aduriz, Athletic's main attacking threats,

as they try to break down a Barcelona side who have only conceded three goals so far this term.

The Blaugrana have emerged victorious on their last 3 LaLiga visits to San Mames, and in their

last 7 meetings in the league. Last year, an Ivan Rakitic goal gave them the three points in Bilbao.

Big teams, a big stage and a big match await this weekend,

as a hungry Athletic Club take on league leaders FC Barcelona on Matchday 10.

Girona claimed an important win at Riazor to round off Matchday 9. The 1-2 triumph against Deportivo

was the Catalan side's first away victory of the season, and gave them a lift after six games without a win.

Having moved further above the relegation zone, Pablo Machin's side now play Real Madrid at Montilivi

for the first time. Thus far, the stadium has been a fortress in LaLiga Santander.

"We will face this game as we have against the other big sides. I think that Girona have stood up to teams in

every game, and I'm sure that Madrid will have to do things very well if they are to take the points

away from Montilivi."

Real Madrid may have dropped points at home this season, but they have a perfect record on their travels.

Zinedine Zidane's side are also on a run of four wins in a row.

Marcelo scored last time out against Eibar and became Los Blancos' eleventh different goalscorer this season.

Their top marksman is Marco Asensio, with three goals to his name.

Girona are strong at home, and want to show as much against a Real Madrid side who need to cut the gap

to Valencia and Barcelona ahead of them in the LaLiga Santander table.

Pickle Mukbang ASMR? (done right) 피클과 헤이든의 한국말 2! Eng Sub [Hayden Royalty] - Duration: 10:43.

Hello. My name is Hayden

Today I will be filming about....

Pickles!!!!

I will be eating pickles and only speaking in Korean

I wanted to eat pickles so badly since last week

I want to eat pickles.... Please buy me pickles

I didn't really like pickles until I came to Korea

I dont know why

So I went to Hyundai Department Store and bought pickles

3 kinds

I bought this bc someone recommended it to me

These two are kinda the same

This one is written in English

This one is in German

They're about the same, but this one says

extra crispy in German

So I bought it

I like very crunchy pickles so I bought this

But I'm not sure if it's tasty

The third one is the same brand name

But this one is spicier

As you can see, there are chilis in the label

Chili

I bought this bc of the chili label

But the thing is, these pickles are so small

They're too small

How could these pickles be crunchy? They're so small

But this one is pretty big

I think this one can be crunchy

I took off my rings and bracelets, and washed my hands

So I can eat with my hands

And I'm going to pour pickle juice into this cup

Damn, I spilled

Alright..... this much

Pickle Juice

First, I will eat the one that was labeled in English

First, some pickle juice

**cough cough**

Sour!!

Fail!

It's not crunchy at all!!!

What kind of pickle is this????

Pickle is tasty, but it's also supposed to be fun to eat

It's not crunchy

Another pickle

This one has a crunch to it

It's not crunchy

Fail

Next,

The ones labeled in German and Extra crunchy

Perhaps it couldve been more crunchy if it was bigger

kinda small

Pickle is like [korean pickled radish]

Eating pickle is like eating the pickled radish

But Koreans

don't drink damuji juice

But if I were to find something very similar

it would be white kimchi

white kimchi is like pickles

because Korean people drink the juice

while eating BBQ

or

eat the white kimchi with noodles

with BBQ

I used to like that cold noodle soup when I was little

Next. The third kind of pickles I will eat are the ones with pepper

got a kick to it

I feel the kick

not a lot, just a bit

It's very small

Imma try these (English labeled ones) one more time

But a bigger one

Why aren't there any big ones?

Oh!!! I got a big one!!!

Out of these three kinds

I like these

bc they're bigger

They have more of a crunch bc they're bigger

The small ones are pickled too much and a bit soft

Oh this is big

Do you like pickles? (let me know) ^^

Am I drunk (on pickles)???

Omg I'm drunk. My Korean is not making even more sense!!!

Anyone know how to make pickles?

to be crunchy?

Please, teach me

Okay. That's all for today

It was so good

wait !!!!

I tried another one and it was so crunchy

Oh, wait, not this one

This one???

Oh that's not crunchy either

this is good too

I think they're all just good ^^

so good~

I really like pickles!!

CGI History 1987 Mars Rover part 4 Ed Kramer, CGI Expert Wizard - Duration: 3:29.

Hi, it's Ed Kramer. Welcome back to my CGI History Channel. This week we conclude

with part 4 of our 1987 Mars Sample Return Mission animation which I created

at the Johnson Space Center in Houston Texas. (And how timely to be able to

congratulate the Houston Astros for their 2017 World Series championship won tonight!)

So the last year of the mission is spent

on the return flight back to earth with the canister of pristine Martian soil

enclosed inside all these multiple vehicles stacked inside one another.

The flame effects were done by assigning color and

transparency to the vertices of objects that I built in the approximate shape of

the flames. I did the same thing with the flame you're seeing on the

bottom of the vehicle here as its beginning its aero-capture maneuver.

We had to write code just to keep all these shots organized during production.

The reason some of the objects look very low polygonal in this video is

because we had to inter-cut our footage with models that were built a few years

earlier, when limiting polygon count was an issue. The full animation with its

original soundtrack can be found on YouTube. I'll put the link in the text

box below. So here you're seeing the space shuttle leave the space station

with its doors still open! I was doing that for overlapping animation purposes

but that would never fly today. You're seeing the credits here Gunter Sabionski

had been with NASA since the Apollo days, and in his spare time he went scuba

diving to film sharks! Here's how the footage got used in the Science Channel

show narrated by Jonathan Frakes and produced by the Discovery Channel in the year 2000.

Narrator: "The pace of discovery is increasing,

driven by the prospect that some of these alien planets may be havens for life.

NASA's Mars Sample Return Mission will land a vehicle on the Red Planet in 2005

The rover will pick up promising samples.

The samples will be sealed and launched to a spacecraft in Martian orbit.

In 2008 scientists like Nielsen and Konrad will get a close-up look at

carefully chosen rocks from a neighboring world.

It will be one small sample that may answer one big question:

was there ever life on Mars?"

How do I - Working With Images - Duration: 10:55.

In this short video I'll explain the ideas behind device densities and images in a mobile

phone environment.

In this environment the differences between device screens are big.

Lets start with a simple question, on the left you see an iPhone 6 and on the right

you see an iPad Air 2.

Both are not to scale but I'll ask the abstract question: "which device is bigger?"

In terms of resolution the iPad is clearly bigger.

It has more pixels than the iPhone 6.

The iphone has 1 million pixels and the ipads has 3 million pixels.

Thats a 3 fold difference!

The ipad is also much bigger than the iphone nearly twice the size diagonally.

This might seem to seal the deal, the ipad seems bigger.

However, it's the exact opposite!

In reality the iphone is arguably bigger.

It has more pixels per inch or PPI than the ipad simply because the pixels are more densely

packed together.

So for every inch of iphone you get more pixels.

This means that in order to show an image on the iphone we'll need 50% more pixels…

This difference is even further highlighted when comparing newer devices to older devices

as densities keep rising.

To repeat the point, this means that if you load an image in an iphone and show the exact

same image on an ipad this image will look much smaller on the iphone almost 50% smaller!

This might not sound like a big deal but keep in mind that these are touch oriented devices

so if an image is an icon that you are meant to tap on.

This icon might be too small for your finger in a high PPI device.

This difference gets freakishly comical in some situations, I still have a second generation

ipad and that's a 132 ppi device a newer pixel device which isn't the highest density

device available is 538 ppi.

Making an app that adapts properly to both of these requires good understanding of the

tools at hand…

As developers resolution is something that's instantly obvious but density isn't.

However, on mobile because of the touch interface it's crucial that we adapt properly to the

device density.

It's also important that we use it effectively.

Many developers expect iPads to just use bigger pictures but that would create a tablet interface

that just feels like a scaled up phone application.

This is a bad user experience.

Users expect the touch interface to adapt to higher PPI devices to make use of the extra

space for more content

To drive the point home here is the kitchen sink demo on a phone and an ipad.

Notice that the iPad UI adapts to make the most use of available screen real-estate rather

than just scaling up the phone UI.

In fact we chose to use slightly smaller images in the tablet mode so we can fit in more data.

One of the most important things we need to do to adapt to high resolution UI's is scale

the images.

To understand the problems and benefits we first need to understand that there are 2

types of images.

Vector and raster.

Vector images are stored as a set of low level drawing commands.

This means that when we scale a vector it's still perfectly smooth as the lines are redrawn

in the new resolution.

FontImage and the material design icon fonts we have builtin are types of vector images

and you should use them when possible.

We also have some basic support for an SVG transcoder although at this time this is a

bit new.

SVG is the standard for vector graphics.

However, most graphic resources aren't in vector format and are just stored as a set

of colors for pixels.

The common formats that you use every day such as JPEG, GIF & PNG are all raster images.

Since rasters are just a set of pixels scaling them without quality degradation is a problem.

There will always be some loss of quality but doing the scaling on the device will be

nearly impossible.

So the common solution which exists natively in all mobile OS's is to ship the app with

ready made scaled rasters to all the resolutions you need.

Our solution for this is multi-image.

We support automatic scaling on the fly of multi images which means you don't need

to maintain 5-10 versions of the same image.

You can just have one high quality version of the image and we will generate the rest

for you using a high quality scaling algorithm on the desktop.

Before we get into that I'd like to introduce the concept of densities in Codename One.

Codename One defines these density constants that match past and future devices.

One of the cool and unexpected surprises with density is that HD TV is a very low density

device and even 4k TV sits at medium or low density.

That sounds odd until you realize that a TV is typically huge and you sit relatively far

from it.

You can't distinguish pixels in the same level as you could on a phone.

Other than that notice that we have many densities ranging from low to 4K.

Some of them don't have devices targeting them yet and might not be required.

Also notice that density is an estimate here, devices are notoriously bad at these things

so the numbers might fluctuate slightly.

Lets move on and add a multi image in the Codename One Designer using the quick add

multi image option.

I'll pick our standard icon which is a 512 by 512 image.

Here I'm faced with an option to select the source resolution.

The source resolution is the density from the previous list to which the image was built.

So if the resource image I'm importing was designed for a very high density I should

pick that.

In this case the image is just a random image I'm using so I'll pick 560.

However, if I'd have picked a lower DPI all of the resulting images would have been

bigger.

If I'd have picked a higher DPI all the resulting images would have been smaller.

You will notice all the images are now automatically created and sized.

We can toggle between them and see the size difference and we can use the standard features

of the designer tool such as opening them in an external editor etc.

The add multi images as opposed to the quick add we used before is a manual approach for

adding multi images.

We don't use it as much but if you want more fine grain control over scaling you can

use this.

You can literally determine the size in pixels of every scaled instance where 0 means an

instance will not be generated.

You can select the option to preserve aspect ratio which makes sure the image will scale

without distortion.

You can also use percentage to scale the image uniformly with a single number.

You can use the square image to indicate that the width/height should remain square in which

point it will force the values to remain the same.

Once this is done you can inspect the resulting images and manipulate them just like we could

before in the quick add mode.

In both cases you can load the image from code by using getImage on the theme resources

object.

Notice you can create additional resource files and work with those files as well and

also download resource files dynamically.

Another important aspect of this is that multi image is seamless.

It acts just like any other image…

When you read the resource file the resolutions that you don't need are discarded and you

don't pay for the multi image in runtime.

There is a cost in application size so it isn't completely free though.

Thanks for watching, I hope you found this helpful

Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad Recipe - Duration: 2:29.

Hey guys, today we're gonna making a cauliflower and broccoli salad

and these are great vegetables to use now because they're pretty much good all year round.

I'm gonna start by making a yogurt and lemon vinaigrette.

So I'm gonna start by adding some yogurt to my bowl, and this is just plain yogurt

You can also use Greek yogurt or some sour cream.

To that I'm going to add some honey, and this will help balance out the tanginess and sourness and the lemon and yogurt.

To that you're gonna add some lemon juice,

You could also use orange juice or tangerine juice as well

and a little bit of Dijon mustard.

And to that I'm just gonna add some salt and pepper to taste.

Start with about a teaspoon and a half of salt, and if you need more you can just add in.

And I'm gonna whisk that together until smooth.

Okay, and now I'm just gonna add in all my vegetables give it a mix, and we're done.

So this is just some chopped cauliflower, and I've also added the stalk inside as well, I've just finely chopped it.

And I'm just using the block-..., and I'm just using the broccoli florets,

save the stalk for a soup or a stir fry, you just need to peel the outer part of it,

which is the tough part and the inner part is actually really nice and tender so you can use that.

And I'm adding in some bell peppers for color,

And some sliced apricots for sweetness and also for color.

These are dried apricots, and I'm going to give that a good toss with my spoon.

Okay

This is done. So thank you for watching if you make this please let me know like and subscribe and I'll see you next Thursday

Video Case Study: BrightonSEO, Let's Talk Video Production - Duration: 1:56.

welcome to Let's Talk Video Production let's talk about BrightonSEO

BrightonSEO wanted a series of videos to help encourage international visitors to

attend and for them to stay around and enjoy Brighton a little bit longer as a

major stakeholder in the project was Visit Britain but the client was also

super busy organizing their biannual conference so they needed someone who

could take control and manage the project independently. So when we had a

thorough understanding of their needs we suggested ideas wrote the script sourced

a presenter and filmed and edited a series of videos to help attendees see

what fun they could be having in Brighton we used user-generated content

to create a guide of attendees top picks for lunch and edited testimonials from

international attendees so new visitors could hear about how great the

conference is from their peers

all videos were uploaded to social media

platforms with best practice video SEO. Let's see what the client had to say about it

I had a very particular video project that I needed some support on

the idea is we were coming up with felt a bit dull and that they weren't really

gonna work. With Laura's support we were able to make a far more creative and

inventive video there was so much better than we were expecting and really

delivered the results it was great for us that we could work with someone who

was able to turn the creative ideas around and produced something excellent

in a really short period of time. The videos we produce worked really really

well in the original format that we intended them for, which was for YouTube

but we were so pleased with them that we also used them at the conference and

they got a great response on the day as well in front of thousands of people

thanks Kelvin
