Hello friends, welcome back
continue with the tutorials, this time I'll make a tutorial how I built my pinning trays
these small trays
although the system would be the same to make larger ones
I'll show you how I exactly do these pinning trays
It has been many people who have asked me about it over time
I've been putting off doing this tutorial because I had no time
but now I've decided to do it, and we will make specifically this one
This is shown in the tutorial, in the video
let's see how how it's done
and I hope you like it and who decides to make several
go for it
Well let the mess
I'll show the starting material
it would be simply a Kitchen table of the cheapest I could find
this particular one is made of polyethylene, as you can see there
is 8 mm thick
because the thickness depends on the grooves you want make
to me these are very well, the idea is to build one like this
I show the dimensions
has approximately the dimensions of a credit card
85mm long
and 55mm wide
this margin, and this one margin, are 10mm each
there it is
and the distance between the grooves is 5 mm
the grooves have 6 mm, which it is the measure of the mill which I will use
It has a width of 6 mm
and I the groove I provided for the plug is 10 mm
would be 10mm
let's draw the model in the table first
then to cut it, and go to the milling
go for it
all right
this would be basically the model
Now let's go cut
and milling already, let's do this
well now that we have drawn the template
what we will do will be cut
and then go to the milling, let's cut
and I will use a hacksaw, which is what makes me a finer cut
Let's go there
well now that we have the basic shape, We go to the router, and debase the chambers, here we go
ok we're here
and we have cut the template, and now we will placed on the machine we will use for milling
Well, which machine I will use to mill?, I will use this drill press
for me is the most useful tool I have in the whole workshop
those that you can buy it
and you may have space to have one, do not doubt, it is a perfect tool
works for milling, drilling, sanding, polishing, I use it for all
who can afford it, the cheaper you can find, this is the cheapest I found
will not regret
and then, what I use? I use this two axes table
it make the work a lot easier
is a table with two axes, that by turning the crank moving in this direction, and in this sense
before I did not, I could also make tablets
I placed a table
a guide, and I manually moving the tray
I manually moved to makethe grooves
it can be done perfectly, all that is slower, more cumbersome and imprecise
I will use this, which is how I do now
a table of two axes, is made in china, is cheap, is bad
has plastic parts, is not accurate, it not looks anything like PROXXON tables or similar
but we will do the job, here a millimeter of imprecision is not a problem
lets see first what I will use for milling
to do the job I will use this mill bit
It is a wood cutter
rounded tip
It makes a cut of six millimeters wide
of which are marketed for mini tools type like dremel
It does not have anything special
these mill bits are designed to work at 10,000 rpm least
but plastic burns at those revolutions
then, so I can not work with a router and l work with the drillpress
I hve set the drill to 1000 rpm
Thus we get the plastic milling and does not burn
let us first see the depth to which we will place the mill bit
ok, the first time you have to do tests on a piece of plastic
to have the depth that you like to you
I am using a depth of between 2.5mm and 3mm
but as I have a tablet made, the simplest way to do it is to place, adjust and
and have already adjusted
that depth is between about 2.5mm and 3mm
we will now hold the tablet and we will start with milling, let's go
Let's start with milling, we zoom
well, as you see the first thing I do is give a pass doing drills
to remove most of the material, and then give two passes more
with drill down to leave completely smooth, ok?
Now simply we move to the next
there it is, and continue with the same process
While we have made every accommodation for the pins
and now we have to make accommodations for the plug, which is 10mm wide and used a different mill bit
let's see how we do
for this we will use this mill bit
to see where I can put that you can see it well
This is a wood cutter
It is also a wood mill bit
is prepared for a milling machine that also it operates at 10,000 rpm minimum
to be wider, the problems of working just 1.000rpm with this drill, they will accentuate
cavitating, hits bumps, so we must to go slowly
and well, carefully, to not having any problems
let's put it
We calibrate depth
in this case I will not use another tablet, but I'll do it by eye
We will mill a few millimeters and if we want, we mill then more
let's see how it goes
we will release it, and I show it
let's see, there it is
That it is, we have the housing for the plug
and we have made all these accommodations for the pins
we would make this recess here to the plug outer edge
that what we do with the dremel
go for it
Now we can only do this recess
for to accommodate the edge of the plug
We are going to use a different mill bit, this one, is very simple
This is a very soft material, so will be able to smoothly mill it
go for it
Well, there it is,, we have made the gap
now the core fits
and we can go clean the remains of ink with alcohol
sanding and grinding the edges to fit snugly smooth, and mark numbers, let's do this
well, for the edges will use a 120 grit sandpaper, as you see this is already used
to remove burrs and regulate some edges because the cut is not very accurate
There, I'll leave it at that, it is not perfect, but neither do I pretend
let's clean with alcohol, and mark the numbers
go for it
Alcohol used for cleaning impregnating a cotton and is all perfectly clean
as you see no trace of the ink, now there is only dial numbers, let's do this
we will place the numbers
and we would have already finished tablet
six accommodation for the pins, one for the plug
works great, I recommend it
I recommend doing several, and as I have them available here
when we have occupied by a lock, using another
with the same system we had used
We can make tables of any dimension
you just have to repeat the process several times
all complex you want
and as bigger as you want
It is only invest time and do it
this would have been the tutorial for making the pinning trays
I hope you liked it, will it be useful
and thank you very much for your time, a greeting
