Youtube daily report w Sep 26 2017

There is nothing better than heading out on a holiday, a vacation, a period of your life

dedicated to exploration, some, like me, even decide to leave their home countries altogether

and move to a different place…after all the world is our oyster….well…some of

it anyway.

It turns out that there are some places that are not so welcoming to outsiders.

Hello and welcome back to Life's Biggest Questions, I am Rebecca Felgate and today

we're asking What Countries can't you visit?

Freedom of movement is a human right and in theory you CAN visit any country you want

given enough funds and will power, but that doesn't mean you should, nor does it mean

you are likely to get out unscathed.

There are some countries that, for westerners at least, are better left alone.

Let's start with our mate North Korea.

China runs flights into North Korea three times a week and up until recently, before

good old Kim made it pretty clear he hates all other nationalities save his own, North

Korea did have a small tourism industry.

These days most foreign embassies have closed down in Pyongyang, although if you are German

or British, our countries still have an embassy there so it would be much safer for us.

That being said, North Korea is an extremely volatile place right now.

Even before Kim Jong Un started testing high kiloton H bombs, tourists like Otto Warmbier

were harmed…now, as the country threatens war, I would not want to visit and become

a potential hostage.

North Korea is arguably safer than Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, all of which are pretty war

torn right now.

Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq continue to be unstable ISIS battlegrounds, with Syria being

amid a much publicised civil war in which their president, Bashar Al Assad, has been

accused of using chemical weapons on his own people.

What with all the air strikes, terror attacks, chemical attacks, they aren't great places

to be, and to be honest, there aren't really any direct travel routes to these places these

days…and crossing over boarders to enter these countries is pretty dangerous in itself.

Flights to Yemen are limited, and you will not be able to travel there directly from

the US, Europe, or Australia.

It's hard to get in and I am not sure you really want to.

Over two thirds of the country is in need of aid, with disease and famine spreading

like wildfire.

Terrorist Group Al Quaeda is also very present, as are Houthi rebels.

In theory if you were to go, you would be safest in the city of Sana, where the majority

of embassies are – although there is no Australian embassy.

There are a number of countries that, overall, have a pretty strong anti-western feeling.

That is not to say all citizens feel that way or that the entire country is unsafe,

but that most areas pose a high risk.

Most western countries strongly advise against travel to the Central African Republic, South

Sudan, Libya and Somalia.

These countries rank at the very bottom end of the global peace index for a number of

reasons, including widely different cultures that do not celebrate western values.

All of these countries have expressed intolerance to homosexuality and often solo women travellers

have been attacked.

On top of that, the governments in these countries are volatile, South Sudan has a curfew that

bans people going out in the dark…which doesn't particularly sound like a country

I am desperate to visit.

Other volatile countries scraping the bottom of the global peace index include the Ukraine,

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Pakistan, Russia and Colombia, however I myself have

been to a few of these places and they are fine so long as you know what you are doing.

There is no country in the world you cannot visit, but there are definitely dangerous

areas to be aware of.

Depending on your reason to visit, you may weigh up these dangers and decide to go anyway,

but it is always worth knowing what situation you are getting yourself into and make a sensible

plan as to how you may get out of any worse case scenario.

Some may decide the danger simply outweighs the pleasure of spending time there, which

is totally fair.

Finally though, it is worth being aware that, which you can visit any country, a country

you a travelling to beyond that destination may not like that you have been there.

For example if you travel to Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, South Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya,

Central African Republic, North Korea and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, most

countries will heavily question you before they allow you back in.

So there we have it, I hope that answers the question of which countries you can't visit….have

you ever been to any of these places in this video?

Let me know in the comments section below!

If you liked this video then please do show me by giving it a thumbs up and turning on

notifications for this channel.

For now, I am Rebecca Felgate, I'll see you in the next video…be sure to stay curious

stay alert and never ever stop questioning.

Test Anxiety: Crash Course Study Skills #8 - Duration: 8:50.

Hi, I'm Thomas Frank, and this is Crash Course Study Skills.

Henry Fonda was a famous actor with a career that spanned 54 years and included starring roles in classic movies like 12 Angry Men and Once Upon a Time in the West.

He was one of the most well-known and successful actors of his time, bringing home an Oscar, two Golden Globes, and even a Grammy before retiring.

So it might surprise you to learn that Fonda had a lifelong struggle with performance anxiety.

In fact, even when he was 75 years old, with over half a century of acting experience under his belt, he would often throw up before beginning stage performances.

But, despite his anxiety and sudden lack of lunch, Fonda would still step out from behind the curtain and give the audience the great performance they expected.

That's because he understood one of the unavoidable facts of life – a fact that the author Steven Pressfield put so well in his book The War of Art:

"Fear doesn't go away.

The warrior and the artist live by the same code of necessity, which dictates that the battle must be fought anew every day."

If you're a student, you might not be performing on a stage or facing down an enemy army,

but your tests and exams are battles all their own, and they often come with the same feelings of anxiety.

These feelings are normal, and you'll never truly banish them.

If you're doing work that's important to you, you'll always feel some amount of anxiety.

And that can actually be a good thing, because anxiety is an indicator that what you're doing IS important.

Otherwise, you'd be apathetic about it.

However, too much test anxiety can hurt you.

Research has shown that high-pressure situations can actually deplete your working memory.

Additionally, stress caused by anxiety produces a hormone called cortisol,

and too much cortisol can hinder the ability of the hippocampus to recall memories.

This means that it is crucial to learn how to manage your test anxiety.

You have to learn how to perform well in the face of it, and make sure it doesn't consume

your thoughts so you can actually solve that geometry proof that's staring you in the face.

Fortunately, there are several techniques and mental exercises you can use to do that.

Roll the intro!

[Theme Music]

Test anxiety is caused by many different factors, but today we're going to focus on the most common ones, which I call the Three Big Fears:

Number one: A fear of repeating past failures

Number two: The fear of the unknown

Number three: The fear of the stakes

Now, in a minute, we're going to dig into each of these fears and work to figure out how you can combat them,

but before we do that, there is one general purpose strategy I want to share with you.

The next time you feel anxious going into a test, take out a piece of paper and spend a couple minutes writing out exactly what's causing you to feel that way.

This has been scientifically proven to reduce test anxiety.

A study done at the University of Chicago found that students who were given 10 minutes to write about their fears and anxieties before a test

improved their scores by an average of nearly one grade point compared to the control group.

This technique works for pretty much the same reason that using a to-do list works:

It allows you to take all those worries out of your head and store them somewhere safe.

You've probably been in a situation before where you're stressed, and a friend tells you, "Hey, just don't worry about it, man!"

Of course, you can't – right?

You can't just let go of the things that are worrying you – after all, your brain thinks they're important.

However, by writing them down, you're unloading those worries into an external system that you trust.

Subconsciously, you know that they're not going anywhere.

And by doing this, you free up mental resources that you can then devote to doing well on the test.

So that brings us to our first big fear: the fear of repeating past failures.

Logically, everyone knows that failure is inevitable every once in awhile.

"To err is human," wrote Alexander Pope, and the realm of calculus finals is no exception.

But we're not always logical.

In fact, human beings have an inherent negativity bias –

a tendency to remember and give more emotional weight to negative events rather than positive ones.

This is a feature of the brain that's pretty useful when it comes to survival –

after all, remembering which mushrooms made you sick or not to try to shake hands with a tiger is pretty important for survival.

But the negativity bias doesn't limit itself to poisonous mushrooms or tigers;

any negative event can create feelings of apprehension and fear when it comes up again.

So even though almost everyone does poorly on tests and exams at least once in awhile,

when it happens to you, you might naturally fear that it'll happen again the next time around.

So how you do you actually beat this negativity bias?

Well, first, realize that you're not defined by your past successes or failures –

despite what that insidious part of your brain might try to tell you.

While the path you're on right now is certainly in part a product of your past choices, it's not a path with a predetermined destination.

At any time, you can choose to do things differently than you did in the past.

If you're ready to do that, you need to start by analyzing your past mistakes and gathering as much information about them as you can.

After all, you can only improve if you know what you were doing wrong before.

Let's go to the Thought Bubble.

Elite chess players understand this concept really well.

While they spend a lot of their practice time playing games and studying the openings and endgames of players at higher ranks,

they also dedicate a ton of time to analyzing their own past games – especially the ones they lost.

By doing so, they can start to correct bad habits and uncover patterns in their playing, which can then be tweaked or improved in the future.

So take a cue from these chess players – as well as from elite performers in pretty much any other discipline, be it opera singers or figure skaters –

and review your past exams to see how you can improve.

Start by getting your hands on a copy of your past exam;

if your teacher doesn't usually hand these out or let you take them home, talk to them after class and ask if you can at least look it over.

And while you're talking with them, also ask for feedback –

especially if your exam contained short-answer or essay questions where there's no concrete answer.

Once you've got a past exam in your hands, review the mistakes you made.

Don't just acknowledge your mistakes; for each incorrect question, make sure you understand why your answer was the wrong one.

If it was a complex problem – like a math equation – identify the exact point where you made a mistake.

Additionally, make sure you know what the right answer was, and why it was right.

Before you move on, cross-reference the question with your notes, as well.

If you're going to be tested on that question again – like in a final exam – highlight that section of your notes so you know it's important.

You can also create quiz questions for later review.

Overall, shoot for mastery over the material so you don't make the same mistake again.

Thanks, Thought Bubble.

The details of those incorrect questions aren't the only things that deserve reflection.

You also need to figure out why you made the mistakes in the first place.

Ask yourself: Was I unprepared?

And if so, why was I unprepared?

Did I simply not put enough time into reviewing?

Did I ignore the study guide?

Or did I use an ineffective study method?

If you feel that you were prepared, then maybe something went wrong during the actual exam.

Maybe you rushed through and made a lot of careless errors.

Or maybe you let time get away from you and didn't actually finish the whole exam.

Or maybe that creepy AI from Ghost in the Shell hacked your brain in the middle of the exam and forced you to spend the whole time licking your paper.

These things happen.

Whatever the reason was, don't let it get you down too much.

Remember that failure is a great teacher – and it's a better one than success.

Since we remember our failures so well, every one of them is a lesson and an opportunity.

But you need to make sure that you use that opportunity by making a plan for how you'll avoid the mistake in the future.

Just saying "I'll do better next time" isn't enough – you need to know exactly how you're gonna do better.

And that's not all you need to know.

In fact, the more you can learn about your exam in all its facets, the more comfortable you're gonna be.

This is the way to overcome the second of our big fears: The Fear of the Unknown.

People naturally fear what they don't understand, and in general, this is a good thing!

It's another one of those pieces of brain programming that's useful for survival, and most other animals share it with us.

When I visited New York City for the first time several years ago,

I noticed that the squirrels there seemed much less afraid of people than the squirrels back home in Iowa

– but that was because these big-city squirrels had a lot of experience dealing with people, and it was mostly positive.

So try to gain as much experience with the upcoming exam as you can.

Now, we talked a lot about how to do this in the last video on preparing for tests,

but the general principle is to try to replicate the test conditions when you're studying.

Do your best to get access to practice tests and study guides, and create quizzes out of your notes to fill in the gaps.

Additionally, spend some time studying in a classroom that looks and feels similar to the one you'll be tested in,

and quiz yourself under the same time constraints that you'll face during the exam.

You want to make the test feel like a familiar old friend when you actually face it.

As Scott Berkun, a professional public speaker, put it:

"By the time I present to an actual audience, it's not really the first time at all."

That's the feeling you're going for.

And that brings us to the last of our big three fears, which is the Fear of the Stakes.

One of the biggest sources of test anxiety is the feeling that this test means everything

– it's gonna define your overall grade, where you'll be able to go to college, and whether or not you'll get to work for Elon Musk some day.

But in reality, you're rarely going to come across a test or situation that you can't recover from in the case that things go wrong.

Trust me – I actually failed a test in college once.

And Nick over there actually failed an entire class – twice.

And, even worse, I was once fired from a job.

In both cases it was totally my fault, but I learned my lessons, I made sure I never made the same mistakes again, and I moved on.

And even if things don't go perfectly for you, you'll be able to do the same thing.

If that's not comforting enough, try reframing the test in your mind.

Think of it as yet another learning opportunity rather than as a judgement.

After all, a test challenges you to recall what you've learned, and as we've already discussed,

active recall strengthens your mastery over the material.

And – at least for me – viewing a test this way makes it seem a lot less scary.

Lastly, keep in your mind that anxiety isn't something you always need to try to deal with on your own.

If you have anxiety that's majorly affecting your life, don't hesitate to ask a professional for help.

Hopefully you found this week's video to be helpful.

Next week, we'll be switching gears and talking about how to write great research papers and essays.

See you then!

Trump's Staffers Hiring Headhunters To Find Them New Jobs - Duration: 3:37.

Now it's no secret that staffers within the Donald Trump White House have been unhappy

with their job basically since day one.

As early as March stories started coming out about how staffers were miserable, how they

didn't like to be around Donald Trump, how his erratic behavior and instantaneous anger

led them to live on pins and needles not knowing who they were going to be facing that day

in terms of Donald Trump's personality.

On top of the fact, they're constantly berating the President behind the scenes to one another,

they do not take him seriously and they do not think that he's doing a good job.

In spite of all of that, in spite of all of those reports, Donald Trump has been telling

us constantly, especially recently after a slew of firings at the end of the summer,

that things in The White House are running smooth, smoother than ever.

Probably the most smooth the White House has ever been.

Well, as it turns out that's not the case, and in fact those staffers who don't really

like their jobs, they've actually gone out and they're now hiring job head hunters and

talking to employment agencies to find them new jobs outside of The White House, possibly

outside of government altogether.

Whatever they can do to get rid of Trump.

Now this is according to a new report by Politico, but yes, the staffers inside The White House

who promised to stay on at least through the end of the year have decided that they can't

take it anymore and they want to get away from Donald Trump.

I don't know if anybody has ever tried to hire a head hunter or looked into any of those

services.

It's actually very expensive.

It costs a lot of money to hire a good recruiter to find you a decent job, especially in a

city like Washington, DC.

But these people are so fed up with their position in the Trump Administration, so fed

up with having to constantly lie and pamper this toddler man-baby President that they

have decided to incur those costs in order to find a different job where they won't go

about hating their lives from sun up to sundown.

But that's what we're dealing with here.

Donald Trump told us when he came into office that he was only going to hire the best people,

just the best people.

Well, it turns out the best people don't want to work with you.

We have seen a number of people decline invitations from you to be appointed for positions and

now even your regular staffers who weren't elected, they're not high profile people,

they didn't have to go through Senate confirmations, they don't even want to be around you.

You know, I do have to applaud these people to an extent.

I couldn't imagine what it would be like having to work for Donald Trump for eight months,

let alone an entire calendar year.

So for them lasting this long, I think that's pretty darn good and I think that's something

that should go on a resume.

Not that you worked for Donald Trump for eight months, but that you were able to work and

put up with Donald Trump for a solid eight months.

These people should be able to find new jobs pretty quickly once you consider that particular

feat on a resume because there's not too many people in this country that could stand to

be around a guy like Donald Trump for more than a day, let alone eight solid months.

Business Intelligence: Budgeting and Forecasting - Duration: 2:47.

♪ [music] ♪

Hi, I'm Marty Schillaci, CEO of The Resource Group, here to talk to you today

about budgeting and forecasting tools. As we work with clients all over the country

on this topic, we find there's three categories of clients who are interested

in making the move into this area. The first group would be companies that aren't

doing any budgeting or forecasting today. And the second group would be those who

are using Excel to do their budgeting, then they typically import that

information into their ERP system and report on it from their ERP system.

A third, less common, category would be clients who already have a full budgeting

and forecasting tool in place, but it's not meeting their needs because it's not

well-connected to their ERP system.

So let's take a look at what should you be looking for if you're on this journey to

find a budgeting and forecasting tool. Well, the first one would be direct

real-time integration with your ERP, or at least a nightly upload.

It should be an out-of-the-box integration. Third, make sure that it has

the flexibility to build the kind of models that you'll need for your business.

Make sure that with that integration and with that tool, you can drill down to the

detail when you're looking at your financial statements.

So some tips for a successful implementation. First of all, start early.

If you've never gone through a budgeting process in your organization,

it's going to take longer to define how do you want to do it, how do you want to

organize, what your template should be. You should probably be starting three,

probably five months ahead of time from when you want your budget to be complete.

Second, don't try to build your templates on your own. Don't buy the tool,

try to self-implement, because you're having to learn as you go,

you won't end up with the optimal solution, and it's just going to be

frustrating for you. Third, hire the professionals but be committed to learning

the tool. Have someone in your team who can commit to learning that tool and have

your consultants teach you how to fish, teach you how to use a tool so you can own

it after the initial implementation. And finally, if it's your first time to do

budgeting, stay committed to the process. It's most difficult the first year.

It gets easier every year after that. So if you're interested in learning more

about this, we have a whitepaper on budgeting and reporting that you can get

from our website. Thank you very much.

Ollie wants this but he can't has it.

No can has.

Has chocolate.

Not for goggos.

(coughing) Don't mind me, I'm ok. (coughing) Hi everybody, I'm Amanda the G and it's kitchen

time again.

If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I'm absolutely killing it with meals

lately, and it is a fact that everyone loves AI. (loud whispering) the YouTube algorithm

is controlled by AI.

So I will be cooking a recipe designed by artificial intelligence - by a neural network.

This recipe is called beef in parenthesis marinade which is categorized as a dip.

But don't worry, I'm still a vegetarian, it has absolutely no meat in it.

(loud whispering) maybe don't make it, there's a lot of salt.

I am going based off of the ingredients list for this because the directions involved draining

on both sides of the refrigerator and I think that's just troll directions.

So all of the ingredients are just going to go into a pot and I think you're going to

cook it down so it can be a dip?

So if you're making this, you will need a pot.

One bay leaf.

One tablespoon of unsweetened chocolate, chopped.

Salt and pepper, chopped.

(grinding noise) A tablespoon of powdered sugar.

Extra for the cook.

A teaspoon of salt.

Two tablespoons of cornstarch.

One teaspoon of something called cinnamon chopped celery.

(chopping noise) Trust the technology.

Two tablespoons of chopped fresh basil.

(chopping noise) Another two tablespoons of cornstarch.

Three quarters of a cup of water.

A teaspoon of baking powder.

An eighth of a teaspoon of salt.

And finally, another teaspoon of salt.

Now we're just going to heat this over I'm guessing a lower temperature because there's

chocolate in it.

Ok this is very thick.

According to the AI this is food, food for humans.

(sped up binary code) You do have to remember to remove the bay

leaf though because you shouldn't be eating that as a human.

Fancy angle.

This is not really coming together well, so I'm going to switch to a whisk.

The chocolate is really adverse to the other ingredients, so maybe the whisk will help

it blend in.

And I believe we're done.

It smells...interesting.

Here's what it looks like.

Look at that.

That's what a meat marinade dip looks like, right?

I don't know where the bay leaf is.

Make sure you remove this guy.

Now I don't really know what I'm supposed to dip into this.

We're gonna try a spoonful.

(hesitantly) I am so very excited to try this spoonful of wonderful food that the AI told

me that I should make.

(slightly panicked) I am not at all contemplating why there are two and one eighth teaspoons

SPP makes retiring at 71 easy - Duration: 1:21.

Hi, I'm Debbie, the Retirement Officer at Saskatchewan Pension Plan. I want to talk

to you today about receiving income from your Saskatchewan Pension Plan account

when you are 71. If you are turning 71 this year and have not started your

pension from Saskatchewan Pension Plan, you will need to do that by December

10th in order to comply with the Income Tax Act. I'm here to work with you to

make things as easy as possible. You can choose: one of our annuities, or the transfer

option, or a combination of the two. I'd like to discuss your options with you

and look forward to hearing from you. At SPP we know you've worked hard to save

these funds for your retirement, and we look forward to working with you to

realize your retirement goals. Thanks so much for watching.
