Every year, 14,1 million new cases of cancer are registered worldwide.
Currently, more than 32 million people live with the disease.
According to the World Health Organization, the number of new cases of cancer will continue to increase
despite the huge investment in fighting the disease.
Despite the complex scenario, new technologies and tools are emerging to aid in the treatment,
in the exchange of information and in the approach of people withblood diseases.
I was 23 when I was diagnosed and you never imagine that you would get cancer.
#Alternatives for a better world
When I was diagnosed...of course you are going to search for information and, nowadays,
the quickest and easiest information you have is to go online and to search Google for Hodgkin Lymphoma.
And, unfortunately, Google doesn't filter this information. You put it there and you get a thousand things.
When you know what you have, and what you have to do to heal yourself, you will fight and do everything to gain access to it.
So information, although it seems a simple thing, is a watershed.
The person who has the knowledge is much more likely to get the cure and to re-establish his/her health.
And there's a lot of bad information out there, from very complicated cases. And when you have
it, you don't want to know about cases that went wrong or were too complicated.
You want to know about things that worked out, so you have hope that you will get through this too.
IBM's support made it easy for ABRALE to implement 3 very important projects:
"Amar a Vida", which is a social network where patients can exchange information and learn more about their illness.
The "Onco Ensino" platform, which is a form of distance education that facilitates the understanding of oncology by health professionals.
And a platform that is the Oncology Observatory that analyzes and disseminates oncology public data
collected by different hospitals and governments of the country.
"Amar a Vida" (To love life) - A social network that connects people with cancer and blood diseases.
The importance of the "Amar a Vida" network is huge for me, because it was where I found information
that I got for myself and thought: this is valid, this is cool. And where I could share what I was living,
because we seek warmth, this thing of not feeling alone, of being able to share what you are feeling, that fear.
The person who has gone through this knows exactly what that fear is and what you are going to face.
"Onco Ensino"(Oncologyteaching) - distance education project with the objective of training and updating doctors and health professionals for free.
My nursing group consists of nurses, nursing technicians, and nursing assistants.
And because I have this responsibility to manage the group in the best way possible
so that it provides a quality assistance to the patient, I have to constantly update myself so that they can be updated.
And then, it was very good getting to know this "Onco Ensino" platform.
I saw the disclosure, read what the proposal was about, I thought it was wonderful, and I talked to the
have this authorized partnership with our hospital, so that our collaborators
participate in "Onco Ensino" classes.
Oncology Observatory - an online platform for monitoring open data and sharing information of the Brazilian oncology area.
For a long time, we have collected health data from a variety of sources, some linked to government, some not.
And the great challenge is to put all this information together and draw useful information from it.
It isn't enough to know what is happening. I must understand how things are, where they are going to
so that I can propose improvements from then on.
Although it sounds cold, the technology in which you're on a screen and don't see who's on the other side
is an incredible thing that helps to humanize treatments.
It helps the person to have more strength and more inspiration to join treatment,
and helps the manager to offer a more efficient and effective service.
So, the patient will always be the greatest beneficiary.
I've already seen that what I went through already served for them to study, research and make a better decision
according to what I was going through. And I am sure that more and more success case
and all cases will contribute to improvethisin the future.
And here at ABRALE, our focus is to help the patient gain access to healing.
And through technology, we are managing to accelerate this process. So, the partnership is
is very important and I hope that other companies can also have this look at social organizations
and, somehow, contribute so that we can reduce the inequalities that exist in our country
