hi and welcome to Hedgehog Hollow and welcome back to our next installment of our
alcohol markers skill builder we're now going to be focusing on one type of
marker every single week and this week is kopeck week so I'm going to talk a
little bit about why I chose kopecks some of the different markers in the
range the lettering and numbering conventions I've also got some great
downloads and course ideas for you if you want to go into a bit more detail
hi and welcome to Hedgehog collar and welcome back to the next installment of
our alcohol marker skill builder we've now looked to ink we've looked at paper
and we've looked at some other basics of each of the pens so we're gonna look in
more detail each week one different brand so this week I'm gonna have a look
at kopecks for you we're going to talk about why I chose code picks the
lettering and numbering convention I've got some great downloads for you and
also some more advanced class ideas if you're looking for something to build on
certain techniques so let's have a look at my Copic well first of all and then
we can start going through so I chose code picks around about 10 years ago and
at the time they were the only real sort of alcohol markers on the market I now
have all but two of the colors which are currently on back order so I hope to
have those very soon I also have this bottle of colorless blender now the
reason I have this is whether you work with spectrum Noirs whether you work
with copics Nouveau markers any type of alcohol marker I do recommend having
this there's some really fun techniques you can do and it will often save you if
you have a project that has a bleed or something in it having this bottle on
hand is definitely one of those things that I really recommend and of course
I'll link it all up below the video as well as some of my favorite places to
get my copics now here are all of my Copic stored in those spectrum noir
trays and I'll link up the video that I did on this hallmark wall and how it's
well stored but I have them by letter and then by numbers so they run from the
four zeros through $2.99 depending on how many are in between so we start here
why ours are yellow Reds we move into our ygg yellow greens yellows which are
wise odds which are Reds then we have our these which are on red fire
so these all correspond to the color wheel we have V for violet G for green B
V is our blue violet up here we have our B G's which are our blue greens our B's
for blues we have our ears for earth tones and they have a slightly different
convention but we'll have a look at those later we have our C zeros through
two tens and so these are our coal grows in C T's our toners ends our neutrals
and w's are warm this row here is slightly different so we have our
colorless blenders which are the zeros I have a hundred and 110 which are two
shades of black we then have our fluorescence so fluorescents are
preceded by an F and then have this naming convention as I previously
mentioned so we have are these white ours
y YG v YG b g and b so that covers our fluorescents as well so there are over
300 colors available and there are multiple different types of markers
available so let me grab a few different ones so we have our original let's grab
a sketch and we can also grab a Chow so these are the three that I have in my
collection the sketch is the one that you're going to see it most often that's
got the oval barrel it has your number on the end with the appropriate on so
this is our V 21 light pink now one end will have this thicker gray piece and
that is your brush tip so that's how you all know if you're looking for your
brush the opposite end right now has a chisel all of mine are quite old so they
have the chisel in it there's also now an option to have a nib end on there as
well but all of your nails are interchangeable so if your brush nib it
gets damaged you can interchange it for a new brush or if your chisel gets
damaged you can put chisel in there you can put a nib in there all sorts of
different options all the pens are refillable now the sketch is unique in
that all 300-plus colors are available in the sketch
whereas in the Chou's and the co picks your color scheme is a little bit more
limited and that's another reason why I love the Copic because there are so many
colors in there every shade is covered plus you can get empty markers and with
the refills you can create a custom shade as well as if there's one that
doesn't quite fit your needs and you although maybe I need a be 40 well you
can make that yourself in there as well and that something else we'll cover in a
future lesson the next option is the chow
so the chow is very similar to the sketch and that you have HSL end and you
have your brush end again you've got that thicker piece where your brush nib
is it tells you this one is an r32 it doesn't have them on the end but there
are plenty of online printables that you can print out and stick those on the end
with some sticker paper these have less ink in them than the sketch so they're
less expensive originally again they're still refillable so they might be a
great option for you to start out at because you could maybe have more chels
and you could sketches I've tended now to migrate fully to sketches but there's
still a few hours left in there as well there's also the original code pic so
this has the square barrel and you have two different ends you can you have a
chisel edge and in this one you have the nib but again you could replace either
of these with whichever one you were looking for so you could add a brush tip
and things in there as well I have got a little piece that I'm going to scribble
out these different ends on there to remind you as well of what they are so
let's grab those out this folder and then I'll go through some of the
principles that I have here as well so I printed just wrote these out myself
so the original idea because the only original I have in here is my colorless
blender I had a couple in my reserves in the back so you've got that chisel for
larger areas and you've got that finer nib this is the Chow so let's fill that
one in and I'll take photographs of all of these so you have this chisel that
you can cover large areas with or you can go a little bit finer and of course
you have that brush which gives you so much control and you can really build up
color with and of course the sketch is the same it just contains a little bit
more ink so again we've got that brush and we have the chisel so you can either
use it like this or you can really color in some dense areas really easily now
one that I do not have in my collection is the wide chisel so the wide chisel is
a much wider pen as the name suggests it only
has a chisel tip and it is much larger probably around about half an inch I
would estimate and that's also available in a selection range of colors refills
are available in every single color so again if you wanted a chisel in a color
that isn't currently available you could just go the refill and an empty marker
and refill it so now I want to talk to you about how I have all my swatches
organized and some of the quick help guides that I have that will also link
up in the blog post for you as well so this is my marker folder so you can see
here I have it organized by types we've got copay expection was etc and then I
have these dividers and these are extra wide dividers that fit with plastic
pockets so I'll link those up too because they took me a while to find but
once I found them I was really happy with them so this is the Copic marker
hand color chart that you can download from Copic again of course I will link
all these up for you so this gives you by color family all of the intensities
it tells you from the four zeros down to 99 or however dark each color goes all
of the colors are as I said a rate oven sketch plus it tells you what is
available in wide in the Copic original and in the ciao so it shows you the
overall the square and the circular barrels that we discussed so you can
check that out in here as well it also gives you a quick reference guide of how
the numbers are divided up so we have color family so those BG's are blue
greens then we have blending group so zero in this case and you get one two
three four five and then within that blending group you get a specific value
they learn lower the number the light of the shade the higher the number the
darker the shade as well so for instance if we look at our blue greens which are
over here we start at four zeros we go to three zeros then we go to zero one
zero two zero five zero seven and a zero nine then we reset back to light at a 10
11 13 15 and 18 and again then we reset into a blending group two and so on so
that's how kopecks in general work and when we have some coloring techniques we
will look at all of these in a bit more detail this is really just an overview
you so something else that I have in here that again I printed off the Copic
website and I will link up for you is the Copic color wheel this is really
useful so this gives us all of our different shades of Gray's in the middle
here so our calls are neutrals or toners and our warms in the appropriate places
as well we also have our fluorescence our different shades of black and our
zeros and then on the outside of our color wheel we have our earth tones now
you have to think these earth tones as being split into these two different
groups so you can follow the numbers here and then again we go from blending
routes light to dark and again here light to dark so this is really handy if
you're looking for what is go together it's not necessarily and following the
same way of other colors they do come slightly differently they are very
distinctly different into these ready and these more sort of neutrally earth
tones so I would really recommend printing this off and keeping it close
to you when you're coloring again it shows you the quick help guide down here
with regards to our numbering convention and the other thing that I keep in my
folder that is worth showing you I have a couple of different things in here so
the first one I found online was from Sharon harness website and I find this
one is great I use this all of the time and again I will link all this up for
you she's got some great color combinations in here so whether you want
a cool gray or you're maybe doing an ocean spring grass there is a second
page of soft lilac because maybe we're doing something Orange when I was doing
a snowman the other day I needed some oranges lots of different options in
here it's also a great flesh tone in here and there's lots of these different
kind of color combos around on the internet if you're maybe looking one for
hair I can link some of those up too so lots of different options in regards to
color combinations and I have a few printed off that I keep in here as well
now the other thing I wanted to mention to you is about kit and clowder so one
of your my lovely followers here recommended kit and cloudier to me and
they recently had this a freebie which is why I can show it here and they give
you printed instructions all the different color
and options and things that you can do on there plus it had videos to go with
it as well you can purchase lots of different videos whether it's watercolor
pencils watercolors all sorts of different fun things as well so I really
would recommend kitten powder the other person that I would recommend is sandy
or NOK she is a fantastic colorist I've been following her for many many years
you can just see at the bottom here her hex chart is peeking out again I'll link
that up for you is absolutely fantastic you can either color in your own or
print out her coloured one I won't show it here it is a purchase but it's really
useful it shows you all of the light to darks and I think even more useful
sometimes I've done this color wheel as well so that is great she also does some
fab courses on advanced techniques on winter scenes all sorts of things I've
taken all of those and learnt so much from her as well so just a little bit
more about the Copic section in here I also have this great principle from my
favorite things which tells you about the my favorite thing as cardstock
colors and some of their ink cards as well and how that matches with copics so
again I'll link that up for you I just downloaded that from the MFT website and
then I go into my speaker pens or Spiker pens these are some fantastic little
pans that Copic makers make and they have shards of glass in them to give
them the most amazing shine and then I go through all my other markers we'll be
looking at that in future weeks when we get next week to our spectra Noir so
that is an overview for you of kopecks I hope you have enjoyed that we will of
course we looking at more details there's so much more to show you about
how to do blends and things and blending color families together but we will get
to those when we start getting to blending techniques so thank you so much
for joining me today on your screen right now you can see some pictures of
those quick swatches that I made I hope you find those useful as well I've also
put plenty of links in the description below about where I buy make ho pics
from and some of the other things that I've shown you on today's video I'll
also link up the blog post that has all of these printables on and Sandy all
Knox website for her classes and things so you can check those out as well again
