Good morning from San Fernando de Henares, new video.

I have a question for you. When you watch series or movies which are English, do you use subtitles,

and if so in which language, or don't you use subtitles at all or, the last option,

do you just use the Spanish version.

Post comments below.

Subtitles are also the topic of today's video, about when to use them or my

recommendations about when to use them, and what language to use.

Thank you very much, and welcome to another Friday vlog.

So when it comes to subtitling, which I think is a very interesting topic when

we talk about learning English, I also think that subtitles are very important

and I very often get the question from students,

what type of subtitles they should use.

So their question is should they use

Spanish subtitles or English subtitles.

For my viewers who don't live in Spain, you gotta keep in mind that here in Spain

television is dubbed, everything is dubbed,

except when you change the language actually on your TV yourself.

So one of the things that I hear very often here in Spain is that the Spanish don't

understand the English when they listen to it and then on top of that you start

talking about different accents.

Why do I think that is and let me be honest this is based on an opinion.

When you're in class you always hear the same recordings and let's be honest most books use British accent recordings.

That influences your listening skills because you get used to those British English

skills and it's a rather generalised accent as well so we're not even talking

about Scottish or Irish. We're talking about close to let's say the King's English

When you start watching American or British or series that are originally

in English, you're going to hear different accents an example.

A very popular series here, The Big Bang Theory. Now keep in mind that the first three

friends are Americans: Leonard, Howard, and Sheld. They also speak with a general American accent.

Raj however is Indian. Now here in Spain when you have the

dubbing he has a general, very average Spanish sound but when you listen to the

English, he has a very strong Indian accent.

So now you already have to get used to listening to that different accent

and understanding it as well.

That's also one of the reasons why people here in

Spain think that we in the north of Europe speak English so well.

And it's partially true obviously because we've always listened to the English

spoken on TV whether it's whether it's American English through the series I

mentioned or British English through series like "Are you being Served" or

"Fawlty Towers" which are very famous British series.

So we we have that listening skill based on different accents.

Now subtitles can help you as an English student as well.

One of the things I found on the internet with which I agree

is that, you can learn a language by copying, not just by studying, but by copying.

Point in case, how did you learn Spanish when you were young,

you never went to school. I mean, your parents didn't send you to Spanish school before

you were able to speak you just started copying your parents and

the rest of the people that spoke Spanish around you.

So the same is true for English. So as soon as you start listening to those series and movies

in English, you're going to get, you're going to hear words and you're going to start

to want to copy the words that you hear. Keep in mind by the way I don't like

hearing foul language especially on a golf course.

If anybody shouts foul language on a golf course, you're off.

So now let's go to the subtitles. There are multiple things that you can do.

You can have the subtitles in Spanish and you can have the subtitles in English.

And again, as I said at the beginning of the video a lot of people ask me which

one they should use.

Good.

Now I've gone through the internet a little bit because I have mixed feelings.

I've always had Dutch subtitles and I'm very much used to it.

Now what I found and I very much agree with this,

if you're a a beginner level A1 and A2, the recommendation is you start with Spanish Subtitles.

Wh? It will help you to understand what they're saying.

We know that you don't understand all the words that you hear during this series

so subtitles will definitely help you.

Is that a guarantee that you will understand everything?

Maybe, maybe not. It doesn't matter it's about the listening remember?

Now, for the intermediate levels, B1 and B2, you should have then in English already.

Why? You're capable of reading English already so

you will not only improve your listening skills that you will also improve your

reading skills, you will make the connections between

the words that you read on the screen.

So A1, A2 Spanish subtitles B1, B2, English subtitles.

Now we go to the C1 and the C2 levels which is the

advanced and the proficiency levels.

No subtitles at all.

Your English has to be good enough to understand whatever they throw at you on TV,

you don't really need subtitles.

So my advice is when you have to choose subtitles, when you are

A1, A2 level go with the Spanish ones, B1, B2, go with the English ones.

I absolutely agree with it but, what I really want to stress is that,

when you have subtitles instead of the Spanish spoken version which we have here in Spain,

you will start developing those listening skills of the different accents,

which I think are absolutely key, because,

listening is the most used communication skill that we have, it's

not speaking it's definitely not reading and writing, it is listening.

Of course, it's very important to realize the younger you start the easier becomes.

Kids don't have shame, they can't lose face, because they don't know what it is.

So they will start copying the English they hear. Unfortunately, including the foul

language because sometimes it just sounds cool.

Get that out of them, but get them to listen.

Copying is a good way of learning a language. Taking classes as well but,

copying is a good way to find out what different words mean in different situations.

And you will make mistakes I've made them as well but it does work.

which will make you say

And that's exactly what Microsoft has done with this new update to Word.

It only takes 2 seconds to turn on

but will surely change the way you work in Word documents.

Here I have opened Word and ready-made 7 pages full of text to better show you

The new page-by-page feature in Word.

As you'll see, I scroll down the page as usual to move on to the document to the next page.

Quite cumbersome I think.

The new feature can be found on the menu

As you can see, it is vertical as standard.

However, if I change to "page to page" something of a little wonder happens.

Now I can scroll the document much faster and edit more easily.

Almost like a pile of papers.

It's so simple and brilliant.

If you do not find this feature in your Word, you most likely have an old version of the Office package.

Please update to Office 365 and get the latest version of Office,

with this new feature.

Paranormal investigation Alborgen Part 1

Alborgen is located in Valbo, Gävle

Alborga Hospital was build from 1906 to 1912

The building has been a retrement home, a nursing home, orphanage, school, workhouse and a mental hospital.

The nursing home was operational until 1995

Alborgen is nowadays an adventurehouse for all ages.

The rumours says there were a scandal in the early 1920:s when the house were a orphanage.

No one knows exactly what happened though all the journals were lost in a fire .

It says the scandal were about the children, and during this the whole border resigned

And the children were taken from the orphanage

Many people have seen a figure wih a hat wakling the hallways

Some people have also heard a mans laugh from different parts of the building.

There have been a smell of cigar and sweat during this experiences.

There is also many tales about a little girl, most people that have seen her is kids and teenagers

But also a few adults.

The girl has been described by several people, independently of each other, to be about 10 years old

but very slender and delicate for her age.

They also say she has marron hair and wears beige clothes.

There have also been sounds like a childs footsteps, a childishly laugh, wisperers, and a few have heard the sound of a music box.

People have also heard voices from the basement, and felt cold winds that comes and goes with no resonable explanation.

He hanged himself up there, in the pipes.

So this is where they found him hanging, after his suicide.

A woman in one of the rooms over here. We putted a webcam right there.

A door have been opened several times, although it were locked. It have jhappened many times.

We got a huge indication on the EMF-eter

It´s really cold right here!

I´m shaking.

It was like a cold wind passing us, and it got really cold.

We also had an indication on the EMF at the same time we felt the cold when whe walked the hallway.

After gone trough our material, you get the feeling that something is hidden in the basement.

This is pure speculation of course, but when you get EVP;s like "There is something stored" and "do they know", you starts to wonder.

All the floors are really intresting, but the first floor, where we documented the "Ghostfreeze" in the hallway,

Is probably the most intresting place.

Unfortunatly i made a mistake when I directed, so I write the wrong floor.

This ghostfreeze is also from the first floor, but everything else presented as second floor is correct.

The reason things came out wrong is that we went back down to first floor after the second floor.

The "hello" at the first floor when i´m passing a door is really good.

A direct answer to my "hello", cought by the microphone on my videocam.

I say "Hello", and you can hear a almost crystalclear "hello" back.

We also got heavy EMF-indications on both devices in the room where a man killed himself

by jumping out of the window.

In the end of the hallway on first floor, Tobias asks if the little girl can come and touch the EMF-meter

placed on the floor.

About 30-40 sek after that the lamps lit up.

If it was the girl is hard to tell.

Could also be another energy who approached our device.

Or maybe the girl, being shy, and didnt dare to approach right away.

Speculation, of course, but the facts that someone is there, it´s no doubt about.

Chili Cream Cheese. Let's see if I survive eating these.

I'm really not a fan of chili.

And they smell like sour cream and onion crisps.

They don't feel very...

Considering I am extremely sensitive, I'd say they're not that hot for most people.

Now it almost starts to burn in my throat.

Well, it starts with a very kind and nice cream cheese flavour...

...and then there's a small chili... ...pinch in the end.

Mm. They're good. I could probably eat all of these.

Well, it's that burning in the end that I'm not really...

No, I'm not a fan.

I feel like I want more of that cheese flavor. Oh, now it burns!

These are also a bit different.

Some of them are very...

...pale. Quite a lot of cheese flavor. This one is very red. The color of danger.

Maybe OLW and Estrella are enemies...

...and if you eat crisps from both brands, the flavors neutralize each other, and they taste nothing.

Man Dies From Rare, New Disease Associated With Tick Bites

Several years ago, doctors at the University of Kansas Hospital received a patient who

was a farmer from Bourbon County, Kansas, who suffered from an unknown disease.

Doctors could not specify the reason why his organs were failing.

They tried all kinds of treatments, but after 10 days, his blood pressure collapsed, and

his lungs failed.

Yet, Dana Hawkinson, an infectious disease specialist at the hospital, suspected a tick-borne

illness.

She remembers:

"We didn't have an answer for the longest time as to why is he not getting better?

What is causing this?

Nothing that we're doing is seeming to help even though we're going to the nth degree

to try and give him supportive care and give him active care to try and get him better."

The blood tests done at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed the existence

of a new pathogen, similar to overseas illnesses spread by ticks and mosquitoes, and named

it the illness "the Bourbon virus".

After 3 years of the discovery of this illness, it still remains a mystery.

About a year later, a second case was reported in Oklahoma.

According to Dr. Hawkinson, other cases might have gone undiagnosed.

"I can't give you a specific number, but certainly cases where people were ill and

we think it looks like one sort of disease, but it isn't, and they end up recovering

or they die and that's what it truly is."

She believes that the Bourbon virus has caused a broad spectrum of diseases, and the symptoms

are generally nonspecific, which makes them hard to identify.

Yet, these are the mild case symptoms:

-Muscle Aches -Chills

-Headache -Fever

-Malaise -Vomiting

-Nausea

According to Lee Norman, the chief medical officer at KY Hospital, it would be of great

help if the CDC offered more flexibility for the testing for this virus.

Prior to testing for the Bourbon virus, they require patients to have multiple specific

symptoms, like low white blood cell count, high fever, low platelet count and elevated

liver enzymes.

Furthermore, Hawkinson urges people to do all necessary measurements to prevent ticks.

You should check for ticks often when you spend much time outdoors, keep wood piles

stacked and the grass cut, avoid wooded areas and wear long sleeves and pants when in such

areas.
