Will You Ever Fall in Love? - Duration: 5:03.Love is a many splendored thing...or is it?
There isn't a one among us who hasn't feared, at one point or another, that we may be unlovable.
Or maybe you think being in love is a silly idea reserved for trite Hollywood movies,
romance novels, and teenage crushes.
Maybe the idea of falling in love, as portrayed in those movies, isn't really the truth
about love as we know it.
Are you one of those people who are simply immune to romance, hearts, and flowers?
Considering that the absence of love can lead to loneliness, depression, a lowered immune
system, and anxiety, we ask a very important question in today's episode of the Infographics
show - Will you ever fall in love?
According to science, what we call romantic love is simply a chemical process within the
brain.
Some may believe this process to be a type of spiritual possession; however, science
has shown us the feeling of love is caused by three key neurotransmitters being dopamine,
norepinephrine and serotonin.
First up, dopamine is the key neurotransmitter responsible for the feelings of romantic love.
This powerful transmitter is in fact responsible for our moods in general, having a part to
play in our attention span, our motivations, and our addictions.
Researchers have shown that when we fall head over heels in love with somebody, we experience
a phenomenon similar to taking an addictive drug; we feel dependent on that person, we
don't feel the same when they aren't around, and we basically want more of that person.
So with this in mind, most of us have fallen in love with something to a certain level,
even if it's an ice cream on a summer's day, a great song on the radio, or the latest
movie.
Next up in the neurotransmitter list is norepinephrine, and this transmitter is responsible for that
feeling of exhilaration and rapid heartbeats, those little butterflies in the stomach we
often associate with falling in love.
But this transmitter also causes feelings of sleeplessness and anxiety that we can all
relate to, similar to the sensations we experience the night before an important exam.
Last up is serotonin; this is the obsessive thinking, and restlessness transmitter, but
less is more with this transmitter.
The other two push it down, and the less serotonin you have, the more you obsess about your loved
one.
These brain functions are happening within us every day, whether we like it or not, or
whether we are in love with somebody or not.
With all these strange new brain functions bubbling around inside our head, it makes
us wonder why people actually enjoy falling in love – why is it necessary?
Well, from an evolutionary standpoint, love exists because it helps us form strong bonds
with partners in order to facilitate successful child rearing.
But to be fair, some people just fall in love because it makes them feel good.
They feel that they have purpose, and that there is at least one other person looking
out for them, and this makes them feel special.
There are other forms of love besides romantic love.
There is lust – fueled by testosterone, this is an attraction to physical forms of
a person.
Then there's parental, maternal, and paternal love, which is the love for your children
and the love for your mom and dad.
Besides that, we have admiration, which can be close to love, adoration - which is literally
a kind of puppy love, and then there is the practical attachment to another person for
reasons other than love, and that attachment might appear like love to the casual observer.
People who you may think are in love might not be in love at all, and are simply going
through the motions.
So the question isn't will you ever fall in love, as to be fair, you probably already
have, to a certain degree, and if you haven't, you no doubt will.
The problem could well be that you are not moving beyond the falling in love part and
developing a relationship.
Some people are terrified of intimacy and panic when others close in on them.
This is normally caused by a sense of low self-worth and fear of being taken advantage
of.
The opposite side of this coin is those who suffer from dependency issues and become so
needy in a relationship that they simply scare their potential partner into running for the
hills.
Then there are those with abandonment issues, often stemming from childhood neglect, as
well as codependent pleasers in relationships.
And finally, there are those with addictive behaviors, perfectionism, and personality
disorders - yet even psychopaths, despite being unable to feel empathy, can in fact
fall in love.
If you haven't yet fallen in love, don't panic!
You have plenty time.
It is probably impossible to live a full life without falling in love with someone or something
at some point.
Love affairs can be undeveloped or unrequited, and sometimes they are deeply passionate affairs
with flowers and chocolates and couples holding hands while skipping merrily through grassy
knolls bedded with daisies.
People can fall in love with a person without actually meeting them - think of those teenage
crushes on pop stars or sporting heroes.
Love and passion go hand in hand.
We can fall in love with a pastime or an idea; some people love reading, others love watching
football, or playing crossword puzzles, and some people love religion and fall in love
with religious leaders, or historic figures, artists, scientists, poets, or even politicians.
Some have a passion for animal welfare and give their entire heart to the cause, some
love nature and feel most happy simply hugging a tree or watching a sunset.
So, if you haven't' yet found love, what do you think is holding you back?

Loom Knit Yarn Over, Knit 2 Together (YO, K2tog) With True Knit Stitch - Duration: 5:10.YO, K2tog means yarn over, knit two together. Hey it's Denise from Loomahat.com
and in this video I want to explain a technique that looks a lot more
difficult than it really is. Alright let's begin.
The technique is worked over two pegs, with the YO being on the left and
then the K2tog on your right. You need to remove the loop from the peg
on the left, where you're going to do the yarn over and bring it over to the peg
on the right, so that you have those two loops that you're going to knit together.
Now you can take your working yarn and just place it flat over your peg as a
YO and then wrap the second peg to do an e-wrap and knit those two
stitches together. That's one option. In my particular case, for my stitch pattern,
I prefer to e-Wrap my yarn over. So I'm going to completely wrap the peg and
then I'm going to take the working yarn and place it loosely over the two
existing loops. I'm going to do the true version of the knit stitch. So I'm
going to scoop down the working yarn to create a new loop, take the two existing
loops off the peg and put the new loop on and tighten my working yarn.
Keep in mind that there are several versions of the knit stitch and the
pattern you're using should tell you which one to use when you're doing the
knit two together. Now let me show you why I chose to do the e-Wrap on my yarn
over as opposed just placing my yarn flat. So here, I place it flat and then I
knit off my two stitches together. By the way you can do that one stitch at a time,
it's okay. But when you look at the back you'll see the difference between a e-Wrap
yarn over and when you just place the yarn flat. It's not that one way is
better than the other, it's all about what the project designer is trying to
achieve. So you need to figure that out before you start your project.
I also wanted to show you the symbols on a chart for the yarn over and a knit two
together. Notice that the symbol for the knit two
together slant towards the right. That's because your decrease will slant to the
right. The opposite of that is a slip slip knit or skip skip knit which will
slant to the left. If that last little bit of information gives you a headache,
don't worry about it. Instead let me show you. In general.
the slip slip knit or skip skip knit is just a mirror image of the knit two
together. So this time you're going to take the loop off the peg on the right
and move it over to the peg on the left, okay. Then do your yarn over on the
right I'm going to do an e-wrap and then your knit two together on the left. The
reason I showed you the symbols is because it gives you a visual of where
you need to put the knit two together. At least for me, it helps me remember
that the slip slip knit is a knit two together but on the left and that the
knit two together is on the right. I hope that's helpful and not confusing. So
again, here's a chart to give you the visual that the knit two together is on
the right and the slip slip knit is on the left. Just for good measure, let's see
the yarn over, knit two together one more time.
I didn't want to end the video without showing you a stitch pattern done using
the YO, K2tog. I love a good stitch pattern and if you do too,

watching this video and please if you would share the video with friends and

Abraham Hicks 😃 - Lei da Atração de pai para filha - Duration: 6:17.GUEST: - I sat in the chair about a year ago
Concerned about inspiring or motivating people
I worried about trying to either increase their income
Or ... Or whatever it was
And you really set me straight with "words don't teach"
And I heard you say that many times
But it really connected with me.
Now something so great happened to me
I think I must have told everybody separately in this room already
Because I'm really excited about it.
My daughter applied to a college
And her chances of getting in were very minor
They told her: "you probably won't get in."
"You're of out of the state."
""You're this. You're that."
"You're not the right criteria for this school."
ABRAHAM: - Clearly someone who doesn't know anything about Law of Attraction.
GUEST: - Absolutely
We're from New Jersey. The school is in California.
And she's 18 now
She has been speaking about California
It seems like from the day she could talk, she loves the sun
She didn't even know California
But she knew she wanted to be there
So we went, we looked at the school
And I can see why she does love there
It's absolutely beautiful
And she did apply
What I didn't know is that she only applied to one school
We didn't know that!
So, just this past week
She was notified that she's accepted to the school
ABRAHAM: - Well, when you know what you want, you're lined up with it
You don't need Plan B.
GUEST: - And ... she didn't have one.
She did not have Plan B
ABRAHAM: - Plan B sometimes misses up plan A.
GUEST: - Okay.
ABRAHAM: - Because it points out your lack of belief
Or alignment with plan A.
GUEST: - When we found out that she was accepted
We all celebrated a little bit
And she said to me:
"Dad, I think it's it was my essay that got me in the school."
So, we did not read the essay.
She won't let us see it.
You know, she really kept it to herself.
So, I just wanted to read the first paragraph of this essay
It says:
"I live in a world full of variety."
"In most cases, the moment I step into my house..."
"I feel a blast of positive energy."
"This is because my family..."
"Especially my dad,... "
"is focused on well-being."
"And what we call the vortex."
"Being in the vortex..."
"Or in other words, being in a true state of happiness
"...is something my family and I strive for every day."
"We have traveled to different seminars..."
"And listen to speakers speak about the numerous ways to accomplish this."
"I love this high energy aspect of my family."
I have manifested things.
Put them in my vortex and created a lot of great things in my life
Watching her do this
I don't know if it's better
Right now it feels better
It was really something special
ABRAHAM: - As you said "words don't teach"
So, to witness this high vibrating girl
Knowing unequivocally to the very core of her being
How everything works
And to see her apply it with complete trust
Even using weird words
Knowing that the universal forces would bring cooperative components
And that she would be considered by those who understand
Yes
GUEST: - Amazing.
So, we after we got past this, she did say:
"Dad, this school cost a fortune."
You know
Are you sure? Are you sure?
And before I can answer the question
I had my phone with me
Which I don't normally take home
it's a business phone
My phone rang
And I have my own business
I got a call for a big job that I had been working on, but months ago
And really had forgotten about it
And I had a conversation in front of her
And hung up
And I didn't have to say anything, she just said:
"This shit is amazing!"
I really want to thank you for teaching me
My version of her is in my vortex
She's my daughter!
But I really stayed out of her way
And she got it done!
ABRAHAM: - Creation at its best!

Will You Ever Fall in Love? - Duration: 5:03.Love is a many splendored thing...or is it?

So with this in mind, most of us have fallen in love with something to a certain level,

What You Don't Know About Princess Diana's Gorgeous Niece - Duration: 4:07.Lady Kitty Spencer didn't choose to be famous.
But since her aunt was the beloved Princess Diana, she didn't have a choice.
As a child, her parents sheltered her from media attention, but now Spencer is embracing
that attention and using it as a powerful tool to create change.
Here is everything you need to know about Princess Diana's stunning niece.
Out of Africa
Despite being related to British royalty, Spencer actually spent much of her childhood
in South Africa.
After her parents divorced, Spencer split her time between Cape Town, South Africa,
with her mother, Victoria Lockwood, and London, England, with her father, Princess Diana's
brother Charles Spencer.
Kitty told Vanity Fair that South Africa was
"an amazing place to grow up and have a childhood."
But she has since moved back to England full time.
"Obviously, I've always felt tied to London and I've always felt British and a lot of
my family's here, too, so it was a logical step, one I knew I was always going to take."
Teacher's pet
Spencer is passionate about education, telling The West she attended colleges in South Africa
and Italy before finishing up in England with a master's degree in luxury brand management.
"I like being a student so I tried to prolong that for as long as possible."
She told the Telegraph that she treating studying like a competition.
"All my siblings were sporty but I focused on the academics.
People think I'm not competitive because I'm not sporty, but actually I am.
I always need to be doing something; I don't want to be idle."
Giving back
Spencer was born into a privileged family, which allowed her certain benefits.
But it's also given her something more — a platform.
She told Vanity Fair,
"The media attention gives you the platform to speak about the things that are important
to you."
And what's important to Spencer is giving back to the community, most notably as an
ambassador for Centrepoint, an organization that supports homeless youth.
In addition to Centrepoint, she's also involved with Give Us Time, a British organization
that aids soldiers and their families as they try to adjust to life together following a
deployment.
As for why these charities are the ones she chose to devote her time to, Spencer told
The West it's because they
"emphasize the importance of family in different ways."
Social media savvy
Growing up in the public eye taught Spencer from an early age about the dangers of the
internet.
Though she is a regular Instagram user, she told the Telegraph she thought social media
can be "dangerous," especially for young girls.
"It's an edited, filtered version of life.
Younger girls think that's reality and something that they can strive for, and if they fall
short of that then they've somehow failed."
She also told The West that she's very careful not to get caught up in the pitfalls of internet
stardom.
"I don't read articles about myself, whether they are positive or negative.
I don't even look at the pictures.
I don't have Google alerts or anything like that and I obviously then don't read any comments
under any articles.
I just don't believe in entertaining any sort of negative energy in that way; I know it's
not good for the mind."
Models and role models
Considering her mother is a former Victoria's Secret model, it's natural that Spencer chose
to become a model herself.
But she doesn't take it too seriously, telling Vanity Fair it's less of a career and more
just a fun opportunity.
"I have a relaxed attitude toward [modeling].
I appreciate that it takes me to new places and you get to dress up and wear beautiful
things and live in a little bit of a fairy tale for a day."
But her mother, Victoria Lockwood, is more than just a model — she's also a role model.
After beating drug and alcohol addiction, Lockwood became a professional addiction counselor.
Spencer told Tatler that her mother has been one of the biggest influences in her life.
"My mother has been a counselor for 15 years and she has really educated us all about addiction
and self-worth.
We've never really wanted to rebel because she's always been so upfront and honest.
We can tell her anything.
And as a result, I've never even touched a cigarette."
Loyal to royals
It appears Spencer has tried hard to create her own path in this world, and credit to
her that she has done this without name dropping.
In fact, her relationship with her famous cousins, Prince William and Prince Harry,
is something Spencer refuses to discuss during interviews.
She explained to The Telegraph,
"Out of respect for them, I can't discuss them, sorry.
This is the way it has always been."
That's okay, though, because Spencer is more than interesting enough in her own right.
We can't wait to see what she does next!

Why Leaving Facebook Doesn't Always Mean Quitting | NYT - Duration: 2:32.If you look at the delete Facebook hashtag, people
are really angry.
And I think they're sort of becoming
aware of the extent to which they're
being watched and tracked.
This feels like it's a turning point for many of the people
who use Facebook and aren't happy about how
their data is being used.
And the more they find out, the less happy they are.
I think people underestimate how hard
it is to untangle ourselves from a social network like Facebook.
So before you delete your Facebook account, just
remember that it's not just Facebook that you'll
be losing access to.
It's also all of the third-party apps
that you use Facebook to log in to
or that are connected or plugged into your Facebook account.
So it's important before you make
this choice to go through those apps,
see which ones you still need access to,
and if there are any, to switch your login from Facebook
to something else.
So you can still access it even after you've
deleted your Facebook account.
And there are just some apps that you won't have access
to if you delete your Facebook account.
Facebook has a lot of ways to track your activity
even if you're not logged in or if you delete your account
entirely, and it uses what it calls the social graph
to track the activity of people across the internet
beyond just Facebook.com.
This accounts for everyone who uses the internet,
and you don't have to have a Facebook profile to be
tracked by Facebook.
For example, if your friends have Facebook
accounts or Facebook Messenger accounts
and if they've uploaded their contacts to Facebook
and if you're one of their contacts, then
Facebook knows your name and your phone number
and can track you. When you deactivate or delete
your Facebook profile, your profile disappears
and people can't see what you posted or search for you.
But all of the data that you gave over to third-party app
developers is still out there.
And those developers are not required
to delete it or do anything with it.
They can use it however they want.
For as long as they want.
There's a whole list of ways that Facebook will track you
outside of Facebook.com. To do the full cleanse, you would have
to actually manually block a list of URLs that they
use to track you.
These are the lengths you'd have to go to if you truly wanted
to get off of Facebook's grid.

Top 10 Worst Tattoos Ever – Part 6 - Duration: 5:38.How's it going all of you most amazing top teners?
I'm your host Landon Dowlatsingh and before we get into this video I want to know, what
is something that you love to do?
Let me know your answers in the comments because I would love to read them.
For some people, they love to get tattoos.
Tattoos can be pretty awesome when they have a symbolic meaning or if they are done really
well.
But today, we aren't going to be talking about those kinds of tattoos, instead we are
going to be looking at the top 10 worst tattoos ever part 6.
Starting off in at number 10 we have A retired pirate.
Ahoy, matey… yeah it looks like this guy didn't want to let go of the past.
He permanently wanted an eye patch and American flag bandana tattooed onto his face.
I hope he's getting a pirate retirement pension because this look would make it extremely
hard to get a job.
He doesn't look too happy in this picture, wait a minute I'm pretty sure this is a
mug shot.
He must've been caught stealing a treasure or another pirate ship.
And now in at number 9 we have an educational tattoo.
Okay not really, but this tattoo is a cautionary tale.
Stay in school kids because you are never too cool for school especially when you spell
school wrong.
This is a pretty ironic and horrible tattoo.
I hope he didn't get it anywhere that's visible because this could be extremely embarrassing.
A troll comes in at number 8.
Guys, take a look at this creepy thing.
It actually must take a lot of maintenance on his part because he always needs to make
sure the trolls hair is on fleek.
Or should I say arm hair?
I'm also going to call this tattoo the chick repellent because I don't think anyone is
going to want to get with him after seeing this troll staring into your soul.
I see you comes in at number 7.
This guy is always watching you, even when you sleep and no, he's not Santa Claus.
Take a look at his creepy tattoo.
Why would anyone want to do this?
Not only would this be really painful but it's just super creepy.
I can't look at this picture any longer so let's move on.
A not so cute family portrait comes in at number 6.
Ok I feel bad for this father because he probably has a very cute set of twins but this tattoo
does not do them any justice.
Ughhh and I feel bad for the people who have to pretend that this is a good tattoo.
It looks like his babies are floating in a pond of thick black tar.
Ba da ba ba ba I'm lovin' it makes it into number 5.
Ok this person has an unhealthy obsession with McDonalds.
I don't know anyone else who would want a McDonalds receipt tattooed onto their flesh.
But wait, let's zoom into the receipt because I'm pretty sure this guy got ripped off
or this is the most expensive McDonalds in the world.
This guy paid $2 for a coke and $35 for a happy meal, oh wait… this is in a foreign
currency.
Phew, I almost felt bad for him.
Number 4 brings us to poop.
The tattoo artist is actually facing a $100,000 lawsuit after he gave his ex-girlfriend a
steaming pile of shit tattoo.
The ex-girlfriend claimed that he was supposed to tattoo a scene from Narnia on her back
but he found out that she had cheated on him with his best friend so he decided to get
the ultimate revenge.
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend screwing over the person who has a needle to your skin.
I hope she learned her lesson.
Hey you guyssss (the goonies reference) comes in at number 3.
This guy thought it would be amazing to get a tattoo on the back of his head that looks
like sloth from The Goonies.
Imagine you're writing a test in school and you're sitting behind this guy…
I would find it extremely hard to concentrate.
This guy is trying to peek at your paper.
But in all seriousness, this tattoo is the definition of regret and hopefully he can
grow out his hair to cover it up.
A very very very loyal girlfriend comes in at number 2.
Wow, I'm almost speechless.
Why would anyone do this to themselves.
This girl thought she would show her love by getting a tattoo that covers half of her
face.
It looks so painful and infected and it's there for life.
She should change her name to unemployed.
You could've gotten a little tattoo of Rus on your wrist or ankle but nooo.
You thought what the hell I'm going to get it on my face.
I guess she's not the brightest crayon in the box.
Finally in at number 1 we have this gross butterfly.
Yeah, there aren't really any words for this except for maybe regret, mistake, shame,
remorse, guilt, disgrace, humiliation… ok ok you get the point.
This person is going to be 70 years old with a penis butterfly on her lower back.
Come on people, think logically before you get a tattoo.
This one might even haunt my dreams tonight so I'm going to stop talking about it.
Well there you guys go…

Dropbox CEO on his $11 Billion IPO - Duration: 12:40.- You have this interesting legend of the time
you were summoned to Apple by Steve Jobs.
You know what I'm going to ask you.
What happened?
And then how does that relate to where you're at today?
- Well I, we had Steve had heard about Dropbox
and we arrived at 1 Infinite Loop, and he started
by telling us that we, we started the meeting
and he's like, "You've built a great product."
and so you can imagine, kind of bucket list,
and okay, check that off. (laughs)
- Steve Jobs said I love it.
- And then it was actually, we were interested in building
the company and we weren't looking to sell,
so the formal part of the conversation was pretty quick.
It's been a wild ride, for sure.
- Right, so the legend goes he said, not so subtly,
well we're just gonna have to crush you guys
and put you out of business.
And 10 or so years later you're here.
How does that feel to you?
Do you feel vindicated by that at all?
- It feels great.
I mean we're really proud of the business we've built
and I'm just really proud of the team.
It's sort of the culmination of a lot of hard work
by many people.
Just feeling really excited and really grateful.
- You're here now, speaking of Apple, though,
and these other giants, this industry is dominated by
four or five big players and it seems like
everyone else is kind of fighting
over whatever is left.
How do you compete in that environment where there's
so much power influence in just a handful of players?
How do you stay afloat?
- Well we stay close to our customers and when I sit
in roundtables with customers they show me their phones.
And they've got products from everyone, right?
They have Dropbox, they got all the Google products,
they got all the Microsoft products.
And they turn to us and they say, hey, can someone
build a cloud to sync my clouds?
And so we provide a real, that's our strength,
that we help tie everything together
and we've found that while there's overlap
with the larger companies, folks like Microsoft and Google
have become partners over the years.
- What does that partnership look like when you partner
with an Apple or you partner with a Google,
what does that look like to me, as a user?
- Well when you open an Office document in Dropbox
you can then open it in the native apps on the phone
and vice versa, and then Dropbox is a place
where you can put all of your information.
We certainly want, we share a lot of users between Dropbox
and any major product and so those integrations
are really valuable and we want to make sure
our shared experience is good.
- Going into today, your IPO day, there was a little bit
of worry about your valuation, how it seemed like
you might be IPOing at a price under the evaluation
you were at a few years ago which is reportedly
$10 billion.
Today how do you feel now that, I think it was up,
the stock was up some 40 odd percent, approximately
up to 12 billion evaluation.
How does that feel?
- Again we're really proud of the business we've built
and one thing I tell the team is get used to the stock
going up and down.
This will be a normal, every day occurrence
and so whatever the price is today it'll be
something different tomorrow.
That's outside of our control so what I really make sure
that the team stays focused on is that our customers
don't really care if we're public or private.
They just want a great experience and they're the ones
at the foundation of the business we're building
so we need to stay focused on keeping our customers happy
and building the best products.
- Do you see yourselves as kind of a bellwether
for the next round of big unicorn IPOs, you know,
the AirBnBs and Spotifys and Lyfts of the world
who are thinking about IPOing soon into this
kind of shaky market right now?
Do you see yourself as a bellwether stock for that?
- I think we're all excited about this cohort of companies
and I'm looking forward to seeing Daniel take Spotify
public and a lot of these founders are my friends.
It's certainly a lot of fun
to watch them scale their businesses.
- I want to read you something that I think
you probably have already read, but it's from
one of you competitors, Aaron Levie from Box.
He wrote a op-ed or open letter in Axios
a couple weeks ago.
He said, quote, "If you look at the past 10 years
"of headlines from Dropbox, every six months
"there's a new push into business.
They've had multiple heads of sales,
they've had multiple go-to-market efforts."
This is largely a critique, I guess,
of your enterprise business.
How do you respond to that?
Is your enterprise different, are you competitors
with Box in that sense, in enterprise
or what's your approach to enterprise?
- Well we, I think one thing that everybody now
is starting to better understand is we have
a lot of enterprise customers, we just don't have
a traditional enterprise model.
- [Steve] What does that mean?
- Yeah, we think about basically applying the consumer
internet playbook to business software.
Our business, we've got a really interesting hybrid model
because we have, we're taking the best
of our consumer roots,
so the virality and scale, and then combining it
with the predictability and monetization
of a SaaS company.
And the combination's really powerful.
So we're the fastest SaaS company to a billion run rate.
And we're able to acquire hundreds of thousands
of paying businesses without having a huge sales team.
We like to say our 500 million registered users
are our best sales people.
- Shifting gears a little bit I want to talk about
diversity and gender issues in the Valley.
I don't know if you've read it
but I was really into this book
by Emily Chang from Bloomberg, Brotopia.
One of the things they talked about in there
was, it's kind of a slow moving thing
you guys have released diversity numbers before,
pretty much in line with a lot of your peers
in the Valley.
One of the solutions presented in that book,
I'm curious for your take on this,
is the gender pay gap issue.
How it's one of those things sure, recruiting
might take time, years even,
and I know you're involved in efforts to help out with that
and we can talk about that.
But when it comes to gender pay
isn't that something that can be fixed now?
You can literally just flip a switch?
- [Drew] Oh absolutely.
- Talk a little bit about how you're thinking about that.
- I would say more broadly, we've always, Arash and I,
have always wanted--
- Arash your co-founder - My co-founder
and I have always wanted Dropbox to be a great place
to work for everyone.
And we certainly believe that two people doing the same work
should be compensated the same way.
So I agree.
There are certain, while as an industry we have a long
way to go there are certainly things that are directly
within companies' control and so by all means,
within our company we take a close look
at equity between, or gender pay equity,
and I think every company should.
- And on the diversity end this week
it came out that you're part of this new initiative
that I think is pretty interesting.
This idea that if you're a startup seeking funding
you won't accept the money
unless there's good representation from the VC firm.
Talk about what that's called
and how you got involved in that.
- Yeah, it's called Founders for Change and I think,
along the same lines, we want so much of America,
so much of Silicon Valley is based on this idea
of equal opportunity and I think all of us want
the Valley and tech to be a place where that is true.
We want it within our companies and we want that same
equal opportunity when it comes to our investors.
It's a large group of founders.
We got introduced to it through Sequoia who is
our first venture capital backer.
I think it's a really, I think it's great
that the founders and the community can come together
and try to move things forward.
- And is the idea here to start it with maybe
smaller startups who are building themselves
from the ground up?
Is that why you're doing it through VC firms?
- I think if all the founders can come together
as a community and agree this is the world
we want to live in and this is what we want
our funding landscape to be.
That's something that we hope the investment community
would pay attention to.
- Want to talk about Salesforce.
So I think it was last week or a few days ago
we learned about this $100 million investment.
People started raising questions, does that mean
an acquisition it seems like
they're kind of hungry to acquire companies.
They just had a big acquisition earlier this week
as you probably know.
How do you view, with this big investment
do you see them as a partner still, obviously,
but as a potential merger down the road?
- It's an evolution of our partnership,
and a pretty big one.
Mark and I have been friends for a long time
and I really admire
everything that he's done with Salesforce
and you know when I look at their path
from a billion to two billion to five billion,
ten billion revenue I think there's a lot of
important lessons there for SaaS companies
and for our company.
Mark's been excited about Dropbox for a long time.
So I think that the investment is a reflection
that he's excited about where Dropbox is headed
and it's a great way for us to have an umbrella
to do more to do on the partnership front.
A lot coming on the product integration front,
some interesting go-to-market opportunities
so we have, our median customer seems to be
a little different so Salesforce, or this partnership
can be over time a way for us to reach
or to drive adoption among larger customers
and vice versa.
So we have a lot of smaller businesses where,
and Salesforce is looking at S and B as a vector for growth.
So over time I think there's a lot more we can do
on many fronts.
- There's that partnership again
with the bigger guys, right?
- [Drew] Yeah.
- Finally I want to talk about this week
Mark Zuckerberg came out and part of that interview
really stuck out to me was this notion
that he's a little bit more open to regulation
which is the first I've heard from a major
tech CEO about even being open, instead of self regulating
maybe we should be regulated.
Have you thought about that at all?
I know you're not even close on the scale
or even in the same kind of business as the
social media companies.
But just broadly, industry-wide,
what do you think regulation could or should
look like?
- I think the, if you look at any other sector
and you look at our market, the government
is an important voice in these conversations.
How is the policy gonna evolve?
I think that's gonna be something that unfolds
over many years.
I also think that companies shouldn't be,
we shouldn't wait for that,
I think we all realized that it's critical
that we trust all the services we use
and that's certainly top of mind for us
as you can imagine, and our customers,
their security and privacy.
I think what the government does from a policy
standpoint from a regulation standpoint,
I think you could go a lot of different directions
but we want to make sure that we,
whether as a private company or a public company,
that we're doing everything we can to keep
our users information safe and earning their trust.
- And finally I read this really interesting
profile about you in the New York Times
a week or two ago, and I have this vision of you
in your apartment signing Pearl Jam by yourself.
Is that true, and what, tell me about
this Pearl Jam obsession we have.
- I loved in high school a lot of, 90s rock
was really the first genre of music I really got into.
We actually, the formal name of the company
was Even Flow Incorporated.
Because we weren't sure if we'd be able to get Dropbox.com
the domain name, so I'm like
all right let's leave our options open.
So yeah, I love music in general but the company was
technically named after a Pear Jam song.
- I think the fist check I think Y Combinator's tweeting it
today and it's--
- That's right, yeah.
And we actually got the Pearl Jam guys
to, or they invested in Dropbox a few years ago.
- [Steve] Is that like a dream come true?
More than IPO I got the Pearl Jam check.
- My general counsel was like, "Well that's one way
"to get Eddie Veder's signature."
It's been fun to get to watch them play and
get different musicians involved in the company.

Dark Souls: The Movie | The Legend of Artorias Trailer - Duration: 2:10.Sif, forgive me, for I have availed you nothing...
Long ago, in my homeland of Oolacile, I was beset by a creature from the Abyss.
I would have perished then, were it not for the great knight Artorias.
Long ago, the knight Artorias traversed the Abyss.
If you can find him, and learn from him, the Abyss may prove surmountable.
The legend of Artorias art none but a fabrication.
Traversing the dark? 'Tis but a fairy tale.
Have thine own respect, go not yonder knocking for nothing, I say!
Believe it or not, Oolacile has brought the Abyss upon itself.
They upturned the grave of primeval man, and incited his ornery wrath.
From my home I was taken, and banish'd to a plane of distortion.
It was there, that thou came to my rescue. Long after I had relinquised all hope.
That was Oolacile, many centuries ago.
Farewell, human. Lead thy life as thou seest fit.

Media & Money: Crash Course Media Literacy #5 - Duration: 10:16.Did you know Finding Dory made 486 million dollars in 2016?
Or that Barack and Michelle Obama received 65 million dollars in advance of writing their newest books?
Or that Beyonce made 105 million dollars in 2017?
Those are the big bucks, people.
Sure, media is a form of communication and the foundation of our shared culture.
But it's more than a collection of songs and books and movies and newspapers.
It's also a lot of money.
The media is a big collection of massive, money-making industries.
That means most of the media you digest was made by specific people with specific paychecks.
And that money has a specific impact.
Understanding how and why media is produced, the business of it all, is key to the full media literacy picture.
If last episode was about your mind on media, today is all about your media on money.
[Theme Music]
Pretend for a second you're a superstar movie director with a string of award-winning hits.
Hollywood anxiously awaits your next film, but you're feeling the pressure.
First you've got to land on idea – should it be an original film? A remake? A sequel? About what?
Who's gonna write it? You? That woman with the funny webseries you love? A studio hack paid by the word?
Speaking of studios, who are you going to work with?
Will they have a say in what you make, and how it's written? Or who's in it?
Then you've got to shoot the thing.
Find the perfect cast, build all the sets or find locations, pay the CGI company, hire a costume designer, make sure the schedule runs on time.
And then it's not even over! Hopefully a distributor will pick it up.
Who will see it? How will it be advertised?
Will your cast end up on every late night show to promote it?
That's a lot of questions to answer.
So instead of making decisions, you're sitting on your couch eating cereal and watching Scandal reruns pretending your problems don't exist.
But you're not a big-shot Hollywood director.
(Well if you are – hit me up in the DMs.)
Anyway: have you ever thought about how much goes into a movie before it gets to your screen?
Or before a video game gets to the store or a newspaper onto your doorstep?
Media is made.
Every bit of it is constructed by someone, or groups of someones.
Each step of the way they've made choices, too, about what to create and how to create it.
And they've made those decisions based on life experiences, preferences and money – who has it, and how they can make more of it.
But those choices affect you, the consumer.
First, let's focus on why media is created.
Its purpose, like to entertain, inform or persuade.
The reason a piece of work is created can be really helpful in understanding its impact.
An advertisement's purpose is to convince the viewer to buy a product.
You see an ad for soda, you know the company created and paid for it in hopes that you will buy their soda.
Great, that's an easy one.
What about movies?
You might say they're made for entertainment, duh. They're for fun.
And yes, movies are made to make money and entertain.
But if that was their only purpose, a lot more movies would just be remakes of Titanic, the greatest and most entertaining film of all time.
Some movies are made to bring up important topics and encourage cultural conversations.
On the outside, Pixar's Inside Out looks like a film made to bring families together through entertainment.
But if you've seen Inside Out you know it's really a film designed to make you cry while contemplating the complexity of human emotion,
and how we're all so different and yet the same.
Or think about the film "Get Out."
On one level, it's a horror movie about a man whose girlfriend's family wants to kill him.
But along the way, the film unpacks issues of contemporary racism and how horrifying the modern world can be to black men.
Every piece of media has many purposes, and they each impact how the work is made from day one.
If purpose is the "why" of media creation," the "what" is focus.
Focus is the topic or subject, what we're including (and at the same time excluding) when we create.
Sometimes deciding what to focus on is the name of the game – like when a newspaper can only fit so many stories on the front page.
They're deciding what news is the most important.
But sometimes focus can be a bit more...manipulative.
Like that soda ad you saw earlier; it didn't mention how much sugar each bottle contains or how it will affect your health.
It just wants you to think about that crisp, refreshing taste.
Or a government report that touts how many jobs were created last month, but conveniently leaves out that most of those jobs were low-paying, temporary ones.
The thing is, the purpose and focus of media can affect how you think about other people, especially when they're not like you.
Let's head into the Thought Bubble to wrestle with that a bit.
Media texts have the power to impact your understanding of things like race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation.
The way they deal with and present these topics is called representation.
Like everything else, the way different people and places are represented in media is always a choice.
And since the mass media is disproportionately run and created by straight white men, that means the representations of everyone else can skew toward stereotype.
Think about a pretty common TV trope, the "gay BFF" stereotype.
There's Kurt and Blaine from Glee.
Cameron from Modern Family, Justin from Ugly Betty.
Or, throwback, Jack McFarlan from Will & Grace and Stanford from Sex and the City.
What do they all have in common?
Well, as I mentioned, they're gay men.
They're all the BFF to a major female character.
Also, they're all fashion-conscious, they all love theater.
Most of them have really broad personalities, too.
Weird how they're all so...similar.
Media representation of gay men has historically skewed toward these stereotypical depictions, where only one type of gay man is found on-screen.
Our brains love familiar things since they're easier to understand.
So why invest in shows written by and about complex gay men or women, or LGBTQ people of color, when you could save time and money by lazily using stereotypes instead?
Plus, as a familiar stereotype, this representation can be used in mainstream media without ruffling too many conservative feathers.
That means more viewers and more money.
This is a big problem for diverse cultures that have trouble understanding each other.
When minority groups are frequently stereotyped in the media, people may start to believe the associated stereotype is even more true.
They reinforce themselves.
Paying attention to how different groups and people are represented in the media is critical.
Each representation is a choice made by the creator, sometimes because of money, and they can be used to positively or negatively impact how we think.
Thanks, Thought Bubble!
Of course, every production choice isn't part of a grand scheme to sell more pop music or prevent more women of color from directing films.
The media is a nebulous group of individuals all doing particular jobs.
But there are people and systems at work within the business of media that help block or perpetuate certain stereotypes and ideologies.
For instance, cultural theorist Stuart Hall wrote about how racist ideologies are spread through the media.
He said, "It would be wrong and misleading to see the media as uniformly and conspiratorially harnessed to a single, racist conception of the world."
The idea of "the media" monolith doesn't exist.
If it's not some grand conspiracy, how do stereotypes and ideologies like these persist?
That's right, it's money again.
Who has it, and where they want to spend it.
If you've ever posted on Tumblr or doodled in a notebook, you were probably able to do that for free.
But somewhere along the way, someone had to pay for your internet access and phone or a notebook and pen.
Maybe you paid for it, or your parents did.
But without that money, you couldn't have even doodled.
All types of media creation require some kind of money.
The big, fancy, mass media kind, like publishing a newspaper or making a movie, requires a lot.
And not everyone has the money to create media.
When you don't have the money to create media, sometimes you can get other people to pay for you to create it.
Like a patron or an investor.
But because media creation costs money, and not everyone has money, it's most often done by people who already have it.
And those who have it often want to spend it on people and things they already know will make more money.
How do they decide who to give it to?
They consider who has experience making media that makes money.
And usually that's people who have already had the money to make media to make money.
It's a cycle that prevents different voices from creating different kinds of media, keeping cultural power in the hands of a few.
Critical theorists Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer believed that this closely held, homogenous mass media was dangerous.
"Culture today is infecting everything with sameness" they wrote...in 1944.
They thought that mass-produced popular culture created for profit lulled consumers into passive contentment.
No matter your situation, you'd be happy as a clam if you could access the easy entertainment of pop culture.
At the same time, it manufactured needs in the audience – like I need to see this movie, I need that brand of shampoo to be happy –
that could only be solved by buying more stuff.
In many ways, social media has helped break this cycle by lifting up diverse voices and challenging the ways media is traditionally made.
Social media campaigns have even thrown the spotlight on negative or non-existent representations in mass media.
But the mega media players still tend to dominate the scene.
That's not to say every creative decision is based solely on money.
Plenty of decisions are made for practical reasons, or by people just doing mundane jobs.
Each one may not seem like a big deal, but when strung together they create all the media we absorb.
We spend most of our day with media, so it's crucial we understand what is created by who, how, and for what reason.
It's almost as important as constantly reminding each other that media is created.
It didn't just appear out of nowhere; humans did that.
And humans do some weird stuff, especially for money.

Is Ready Player One the New Roger Rabbit? | NowThis Nerd - Duration: 10:45.Hi everybody, I'm Moose,
and I don't think I would consider 'Infinity War' "the most ambitious crossover event in history."
Wow.
Everyone's from the same company.
I mean, do you consider 'Space Jam' a crossover?
Pardon me, Mr. Jordan, can I have your auto-g-g-g-
'Ready Player One' feels a little closer,
like dumping out all your action figures and having Luke Skywalker fight Carnage.
But, when I think of incredible crossovers,
of immortal icons impossibly occupying the same screen,
The first thing that comes to my mind is
'Who Framed Roger Rabbit.'
It shares the same Spielbergian source code as 'Ready Player One,
and, well, we know 'Roger Rabbit' is amazing.
Thanks! I needed that!
Since 'Ready Player One' is getting rave reviews too,
today I want to look at the similarities between them,
and ask what could be the most important question of our time:
Is Ready Player One the New Roger Rabbit?
Let's start at the source, because both of these films are
Based on Weird-Ass Books
Look, a lot of people are dismissing 'Ready Player One' based on the source novel,
and hey-- I liked it.
I really dug the concept, the plot,
the sheer enthusiasm.
But let's face it: You don't read Ernest Cline for deep characterization and gut-wrenching prose.
If you've got the e-book, do a control-F search for the word 'classic.'
he uses it 32 times to describe all the references he drops,
instead of, y'know, actually telling us why all these '80s icons are so awesome.
Classic mixup!
Classic!
Driving drunk... Classic.
For example:
'The Vonnegut was a heavily modified Firefly-class transport vessel, modeled after the Serenity in the classic Firefly TV series'
Then, 30 pages later:
Shoto's vessel was a large interplanetary trawler named the Kurosawa, modeled after a ship called the Bebop in the classic anime series Cowboy Bebop
And it goes on like this!
Just say why they're so cool!
Because it's slick and stylish like 'Cowboy Bebop,
or because it's heartfelt and hilarious like 'Serenity,' not 'classic.'
Hey, you wanna run this ship?
Yes.
Well... You can't.
Look, when 'Ready Player One' came out in 2012,
we weren't quite as inundated with remakes, reboots,
and desperate attempts to cash in on our nostalgia.
I'll be back.
What?
But in a post 'member berries world,
it's hard to read without cringing just a little bit.
'Member Chewbacca again? I love to 'member Chewbacca!
Still, the seeds of a great movie are in there!
The virtual OASIS offers limitless possibilities for action and spectacle,
and the thrilling treasure-hunt is tailor-made for a big, satisfying summer blockbuster.
Besides, if history has shown us anything, it's that the source material doesn't always tell you a lot about the adaptation.
Believe it or not, 'Roger Rabbit' was based on a book,
a 1981 mystery by Gary Wolf called 'Who Censored Roger Rabbit?'
It's got almost nothing to do with the movie.
For one thing, the toons in the book are all comic strip characters like 'Hagar the Horrible' and 'Beetle Bailey,'
when they speak, their words appear in speech balloons above their head.
It's not exactly cinematic.
For the movie, Disney and Spielberg dumped the comic concept, and pretty much the entire plot,
and replaced it with a 'Chinatown'-esque noir film set in the golden age of animation.
Only two lines survived from the book:
Baby Herman's
"My problem is I've got a 50-year-old lust and a 3-year-old dinky"
And Jessica's iconic
"I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way",
'Roger Rabbit' is a movie that transcends its weird source material to become something greater,
and I know Spielberg can do the same with 'Ready Player One.'
I mean, just look at 'Jaws.'
Peter Benchley's book was a trashy beach read,
it had boring subplots with the mob and an icky affair between Richard Dreyfuss and Brody's wife.
Spielberg cut away the bullshit until only the pure, compelling narrative remained.
From 'Jurassic Park' to 'Minority Report,' the man's an adaptation expert,
even if and maybe because they aren't faithful,
and If anyone can make an incredible movie out of 'RPO,' it's him.
or, if he's unavailable...
Then get me his non-union Mexican equivalent!
Listen, Senor Spielbergo, I want you to do for me what Spielberg did for Oskar Schindler!
He's the only human alive who could pull off two crossovers of this magnitude.
I mean, who else could
Wrangle the Rights?
During the pre-production of 'Roger Rabbit,' Disney ran into a huge problem:
The movie needs to have cartoons spanning all of Hollywood history.
It couldn't just be Mickey and the gang,
because then it would just be 'Kingdom Hearts.'
Ohh, Goofy...
They'll pay for this.
But when Disney came looking for the rights,
the studios that owned the other characters either refused their requests,
or demanded boatloads of money.
That's when they called in Spielberg,
who, thank god, is a massive animation geek.
I think all directors should be animators first, because you can really take the imagination and become something tangible,
something you can hold in your hand and say 'Can you see this? No? Well, I can.'
He played a huge part in bringing the art-form back to prominence in the '80s and '90s.
From producing 'An American Tale' with Don Bluth,
to single-handedly reviving Warner Brothers' animation department.
Who are you people?
You can thank Spielberg for 'Tiny Toons,' 'Animaniacs,' 'Batman,'
and 'Freakazoid!'
Hey you guys in there! You wanna watch my show?
There we go. We did it. We finally mentioned Freakazoid.
Insert an unrelated Freakazoid joke here.
And now, a shot of a busy freeway:
Now, Spielberg didn't direct 'Roger Rabbit,'
That was 'Back to the Future's' Bob Zemeckis.
But as producer, his most important role was getting the other studios to play ball.
Spielberg convinced them to license out their toons for a ridiculously cheap price of $5,000 per character.
Just think about how insane that is,
I couldn't license 'Cow and Chicken' for five grand!
Never?
Never!
Never?
They came with some restrictions, though.
In the final film, the biggest stars are always together in the frame,
like Donald and Daffy's piano duel,
or Mickey and Bugs' bizarre skydiving scene.
Aw, poor fella!
That's because, in their contract, Warner Brothers insisted that the Looney Tunes have equal screen time as Disney characters.
Now, some studios still had the stones to straight-up stymie Spielberg,
which is why you don't see Tom and Jerry or Popeye or Little Lulu or Casper in the final film.
But overall, 'Roger Rabbit' is an extremely impressive feat,
one I never thought we'd see again in today's mega-corporate Hollywood.
But hey, I thought John Cena vs. the Rock was once in a lifetime,
and they had a rematch the next year.
For 'Ready Player One,' Spielberg came out swinging.
For one thing, between Warner Bros. and his own Amblin Entertainment,
they've already got the rights to a ton of characters referenced in the novel.
And given the success of the book,
it wasn't hard to convince other studios to jump on board..
Even video game publishers wanted in,
Although, again, sacrifices had to be made.
They had to replace Ultraman with the Iron Giant,
and while I'm happy to see him again,
didn't he like, choose not to be a mindless weapon of death and destruction?
It's okay, it's okay... We gotta show them you're good!
Instead of stomping through a CGI battlefield blasting people with reckless abandon?
I dunno if Brad Bird would approve, but still, he's a pretty good get,
but he's small potatoes compared to 'Star Wars'
I'm sure you are!
Not even the House of Mouse can refuse Spielberg,
most likely because they really wanna get that new Indiana Jones movie off the ground for whatever reason.
And it's pretty much confirmed we're at least gonna see an X-wing or two.
Although Disney did draw the line at their Marvel characters.
And, honestly, with 'Infinity War' coming out just a few weeks later,
I think I'm all set.
The OASIS would be pretty damn sparse without Spielberg,
and Toontown's population would be pathetic.
Studios hate sharing with their precious IP,
but with Spielberg, they knew it was in good hands.
That wasn't always the case, though.
'Roger Rabbit' and 'Ready Player One' have one more thing in common:
A lot of people had their
Doubts.
Disney hated 'Roger Rabbit,'
P-p-p-p-p-lease!!!
CEO Michael Eisner and Roy Disney were horrified about how dark and risque the film turned out.
And that's before they found out about the animators sneaking in subliminal nudity!
After disastrous test screenings, they demanded changes,
but Zemeckis had final cut privileges and refused to alter a single frame.
As a result, Disney decided released it under their more adult 'Touchstone Films' banner.
And, surprise, the movie was a huge success,
But because they chickened out at the last minute,
'Roger Rabbit' isn't really considered part of the Disney canon.
The bigwigs wouldn't give it a chance, and it's their loss.
The same way a lot of people don't want to give 'RPO' a chance,
people who dismiss it a shallow nostalgia circlejerk.
And, having read the book, they kind of have a point.
But if look you beyond Ernest Cline's bad writing and awkward name-dropping,
it's obvious that he really, truly loves the 'classics,'
and that his passion shines through on every page.
'Ready Player One' and 'Roger Rabbit' are about breaking down the walls between reality and fiction,
between people and pop culture,
and between characters you never dreamed would ever meet.
If 'Roger Rabbit' is any indication,
Spielberg will be able to look past all the references,
discover a story worth the spectacle,
and find the heart at the core of 'Ready Player One'
Thanks so much for watching!

The Churches are Not On Board - Duration: 3:02.Church organizations are not part of the kingdom of God.
Churches are compromising with the world for acceptability and acceptance.
They have sold their soul to the devil.
They ordain homosexuals, fornicators and adulterers as pastors.
They do not only approve of abortions but many of them, themselves, kill their unborn
babies.
The kingdom of God is not about money, tithing and church building.
It is about holiness, righteousness and obedience to Jesus.
It is not about being politically correct and conforming with the world, it is about
about being led by the Holy Spirit and doing the will of God.
The organized church leaders don't know God.
They do not know His voice.
You don't hear from God because you have a church and you read the Bible. You hear from
God because you obey Him and walk with Him
The organized churches are against the kingdom of God.
They are of the kingdom of satan.
They lead the people astray.
If you belong to and support the worldly church organizations, you are on the wrong side.
You are on the side of satan.
The judgment of God is coming on the worldly churches and if He finds you there you will
suffer His wrath and punishment.
It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.
The true Body of Christ, the called out ones, the Ekklesia, are not part of the church organizations.
They are led by the Holy Spirit and they follow Jesus.
They do not follow men.
Each of them listens to the Head, Jesus Christ, and they do what He commands.
He is their Commander.
Get out of church and get on your knees before Jesus.
Obey Him, submit to Him and He will use you to accomplish His will.
He uses everyone who is willing and who wishes to follow Him.
He will guide and equip you, if you stay with Him and listen to Him, but if you stay in
church you will perish.
Nobody can serve two masters.
Who will you serve?
Church or Jesus Christ?
May Jesus bless you.
Jesus Christ is alive and hell is real.
I am here to introduce you to Jesus Christ so that you can know Him and follow Him and

The Untold Truth Of Wendy's - Duration: 4:52.Wendy's has more than 6,500 locations across the globe, making it the third-largest burger
franchise in the world.
Founded in 1969, today the company is worth billions and has become beloved by people
all over the world who love their burgers and fries.
But there are a few little-known facts about the chain that may surprise you.
Frosty origins
There are plenty of classic menu items to choose from at Wendy's, like the tried-and-true
Frosty.
But did you know this creamy favorite has been around since Wendy's was first founded
in 1969?
According to the official Wendy's website, founder Dave Thomas wanted a dessert so thick
you had to eat it with a spoon, and so the Frosty, conceived as a cross between a milkshake
and soft-serve ice cream, was born.
To keep the chocolate flavor from being too overwhelming, Thomas added vanilla to the
recipe.
The result was a sweet, chocolate treat that perfectly complemented a hamburger.
While this chocolate/vanilla combo was the default Frosty flavor for decades, the vanilla
Frosty launched in 2006.
Unexpected success
When Wendy's was launched in 1969, there were just five items on the menu.
Thomas didn't have great ambitions for the first restaurant he opened in Columbus, Ohio.
He simply wanted a small, local chain where his kids could work in the summer.
Despite his modest expectations, Thomas soon found himself with a successful business.
He opened a second Wendy's after a year and by 1974, sales totaled at nearly $25 million.
By the end of 1976, not even a decade since the company was started, there were 500 Wendy's
locations.
"Gee, this is pretty good."
Famous face
Dave Thomas had four kids and knew one of them would become the face of the restaurant,
but he wasn't playing favorites when he picked 8-year-old Melinda, nicknamed Wendy.
She told People in 1990,
"Dad wanted a name that was easy to remember, and he wanted an all-American mug.
I was redheaded and had freckles and buck teeth, so I got elected."
Wendy admitted to often being embarrassed because of her famous face.
"There was always teasing.
It just goes with the territory."
Dropout to entrepreneur
The success of Wendy's is even more impressive when you look at the history of Dave Thomas.
A high school dropout, Thomas served in the Korean War before becoming a cook.
He went on to work at Kentucky Fried Chicken, where he came up with the idea for the KFC
chicken bucket.
After climbing through the ranks, Thomas left the company in 1969 and founded Wendy's.
The rest is history.
After Wendy's became a success, a 61-year-old Thomas went back to school to earn his GED.
He then founded the Dave Thomas Education Center to help other high school dropouts
earn their GEDs, as well.
Value pioneer
Value menus have been standard at fast food restaurants for decades, but Wendy's was the
first, launching the first value menu in 1989, nearly a decade before Burger King got on
the value menu train in 1998.
Denny Lynch, the senior VP of communications for Wendy's, explained why the company decided
to offer menu items at a discounted price.
"At that time, all of the hamburger chains were going after each other and it escalated
to the point where we were seeing 99 cent Whoppers and Big Macs.
[...] We had the idea of rather than selling one of our big items at 99 cents, creating
a whole menu with 99-cent items.
We wanted our customers to be able to make a full meal with these lower-priced items."
Hip to be square
Wendy's is noted for the unusual shape of its hamburger patties.
There's a good reason the patties are square instead of round.
Thomas got the idea for the square patties from a Michigan restaurant called Kewpee Burger
which served square-shaped patties.
Thomas decided to incorporate these patties so customers could easily see the freshness
of the meat.
The corners of the square patties stick out past the circular bun, making it easy to see
just how juicy the burger really is.
Beef lady beef
Wendy's launched a series of memorable commercials in the 1984 featuring a catch phrase that
became world famous:
"Where's the beef?"
The commercials were so successful that Wendy's become synonymous with the phrase, and the
actress delivering it, Clara Peller.
But Peller was fired in 1985 for starring in a Prego spaghetti sauce commercial.
In the commercial, Peller announced that she had finally found the beef, angering Wendy's.
A spokesperson for the chain said,
"The commercial infers that Clara found the beef at somewhere other than Wendy's restaurants.
Unfortunately, Clara's appearance in the ads makes it extremely difficult for her to serve
as a credible spokesperson for our products."
Limited breakfast
While Wendy's is one of the most successful fast food companies in the world, it's stuck
to mainly serving lunch and dinner, unlike many of its competitors, who have breakfast
menus.
Wendy's has experimented with breakfast menus in the past, but never experienced enough
success to launch a permanent, nationwide breakfast menu.
CEO Emil Brolick told Bloomberg,
"We have tested breakfast many times over the years and we feel, as virtually the only
large national chain that hasn't gotten into breakfast, it's very difficult to enter that
space today and commit the kind of marketing resources that we feel would be necessary
to really entrench ourselves successfully."
While the restaurant does have a limited breakfast menu, it's only served in select locations.
So if you're chowing down on Wendy's at sunrise, consider yourself lucky.

Bill O'Reilly Points Out Two Dirty Tricks About Stormy's Interview That Proves Her Deceit - Duration: 2:38.Bill O'Reilly Points Out Two Dirty Tricks About Stormy's Interview That Proves Her
Deceit.
The American people don't care what Donald Trump did years ago before he became President.
However, the mainstream media fights to keep the gossip going as their Russia Collusion
narrative is over.
The mainstream media has run out of ideas and will continue to push anything to make
President Trump look bad.
They are so desperate to try to ruin Trump's Presidency, and will continue to not cover
the actual achievements that President Trump and his administration are doing.
Stormy Daniels recently interviewed with CNN's Anderson Cooper Sunday night on 60 Minutes.
During her salacious interview, she discussed her alleged one night affair with Donald Trump
12 years ago.
CNN is obsessed with this porn star now.
The White House pushed back denying the allegations.
In addition "Stormy Daniels" has also denied having any sexual relations with Trump
on 2 separate occasions.
But, many are questioning Stormy Daniels statements from her interview.
ill O' Reilly came forward Monday morning slamming Stormy while pointing out her lies
during the interview in a tweet storm.
O'Reilly tweeted, "So much for the porn performer on "60 Minutes" who's story
doesn't stack.
She says she didn't want money to attack Donald Trump but accepted money.
She doesn't want money now either.
So why are you on national television with all this garbage?
Does that help your daughter?"
"If someone threatened your young child with harm, would you not go to the police?
Even after you saw the man who did it?"
"So, Anderson, some guy threatened my baby daughter to my face but I was too scared to
tell the police but not too scared to tell @60Minutes."
Also, Anderson, I never wanted money but accepted money and tried to sell my Trump story to
a newspaper.
But I never wanted money.
Are you hearing me, Anderson????
The left's new obsession is Stormy Daniels because the Russian collusion is dead.
They want to find any reason to hate the President and make him out to be the worst person ever.
Stormy Daniels is CNN's new vessel right now and they are using her like a puppet.
In two years she will be broke and a nobody.
We Deplorables elected President Trump to Build the Wall and Drain The Swamp.
We did not elect him to be our PASTOR.
What do you think about this?
