Hi, Hello to you very much in the next episode,
in which we will deal with Saramonic digital microports about the VmicLink5 model
Saramonic VmicLink5 is one of the newest microport sets from Saramonic.
This time we are dealing with a complete novelty
because it is the first set that offers us 3 wireless microphones with one receiver.
In addition, operating in the future 5.8GHz frequency band
digital data transfer - which means that the microchips are and will be less susceptible to interference.
At the very beginning, unpack the package that came from the RobimyTV store
as you remember - in the RobimyTV store I have already bought my current set of microportów Saramonic,
which works great today.
So I can recommend them most.
Returning after opening the package comes a box with microports.
On which we can see three transmitters and one receiver.
After opening the box for good morning greets us leash from Saramonic
and a cloth from RobimyTV
after which we see a special suitcase for storing microports.
Inside the case you will find a pocket for instructions and a warranty card
we can put in other things there
Under the spacer there are all parts of the set, that is:
3 transmitters
1 receiver
3 microphones
4 batteries
8 antennas
charger with USB cable
mini-jack cable
XLR cable
fixing with a shoe
and 4 clips to attach to the belt
At the very beginning, let's look at the receiver housing
plastic from which the housing was made may leave much to be desired
although it is not bad even for China
On the front of the device we have a screen and buttons to change settings.
On the right side there is a button for turning the receiver on and off
on the left side you will find a line output and a louder headphone output
On the top of the receiver we find 2 connectors to which we screw 2 antennas.
At the bottom of the device you will find a flap from the battery hole.
In this model Saramonic has used a different type of battery which is the Canon LP-E17.
The predominant other microborts were powered by 2 AA size batteries
or R6 batteries
in this case the manufacturer had to use a different type of battery,
because the electronics inside the device needs a voltage of not less than 5V.
There is a sticker on the back of the device
from which we will learn: the model of the device, its frequency and the type of battery.
Let's go back to the sides of the device where the holes for the buckle are.
With the help of a clip, we will attach an adapter with a screwed hotstop and a photo thread
to be able to mount the receiver on the camera.
After starting the receiver on the display we can see 3 possible receivers
then we have the level of the output sound
then to the right we have the headphones icon, which informs us whether the receiver is muted
In the corner on the right you will find a battery level indicator
and at the bottom information about the set channel.
After entering the change of settings at the beginning we can choose the transmission channel,
there are 3 channels to choose from, which means: within the range of the set we can
have up to 9 transmitters.
The next setting is the sound output level
let's move to the next sound mixing setting
and by the way I will answer the most frequently asked questions:
How is it with three transmitters and one receiver with stereo output?
In the mono setting, the receiver mixes all transmitters in one signal
which goes to the output in the form of 2 the same channels
When we select the stereo mode, the receiver will mix the signal from transmitter A and C and direct it to the output,
the signal from transmitter B is transmitted without any mixing straight to the second output channel.
You will think that something is mixing here and we have no precise control over the sound,
because the sound from transmitter A and C will be mixed,
In fact, we have no control over the sound from 3 transmitters separately
- but you can easily deal with it,
let's say we're recording a program with 3 people including the host and 2 guests.
The host gets the B transmitter, and the guests will respond alternately
thanks to which we can see the sound of one and the other guest on the recording,
and the leader is on a separate line.
When we were recording only 2 people, the matter becomes even simpler
because it is enough to give the transmitter A, and the guest receives the transmitter B,
so we have the sound from 2 transmitters on separate lines.
Here it is worth mentioning the XLR cable, which due to its characteristics is a mono cable,
and regardless of the choice of mono or stereo, all the microswitches will be mixed on the output plug,
which, as well as by the way, can see the protection against phantom power inside
- made on 2 capacitors that nicely separate the constant component of the phantom power supply,
and they only transmit alternating current which is a constantly changing sound signal.
let's go back to the settings where in the next setting we can block the power button before accidentally switching it off
another function that we can turn on or off is the mute button
and we went to the option that allows you to pair the receiver with transmitters about which I will tell you in a moment.
The next option is the backlight time of the display.
before the last option is reset to factory settings
- here I must warn that the reset causes breaking the pairing with the transmitters
at the end, we can see the software version
and the serial number of the device
The transmitter housing does not differ from the receiver
on the other hand we have a microphone input with a preamplifier on the left side
and a second line input for connecting various audio devices, e.g. headphone output from an audio mixer
on the other side we have the same switch on and mute button,
from the top screwed antennae and the bottom with a flap with a hole for batteries.
On the transmitter's display from the left we have a radio signal strength indicator
then assigned the letter of the transmitter which is assigned during pairing.
The next value is the level of input sensitivity of the transmitter.
Next, we have a microphone icon informing whether the transmitter is muted.
In the right corner we have a battery indicator and the line below has the transmission channel set
Going to the settings of the transmitter - at the beginning we have information about the frequency of the transmission
the first setting that we can change is the level of sensitivity of the transmitter to the input signal
then we can block the power button before accidentally turning it off
we can also enable or disable the mute button
below we have the option to pair the transmitter with the receiver
the last option is setting the backlight time of the display
after the next penultimate thing that we find is reset to the factory settings
at the end we can see the firmware version and the serial number of the device
So much for the transmitter's settings,
now let's go to pairing all transmitters with the receiver
you may already be pairing after purchasing the device,
but if this is not the case or accidentally reset the transmitters and receiver to the factory settings
it would be useful to pair them.
In that case, let's first reset all devices to the factory settings.
then on the receiver and on the transmitter select the option for pairing devices
we press the set button and the transmitter and receiver are connected within 30 seconds
and assigning him the first letters A
now to connect the second transmitter we do the same things,
starting with choosing the option to pair and connect to the next transmitter,
we do the same with the third transmitter.
in the case of resetting any of the transmitters, it is best to repeat pairing of all devices
because during many of my attempts it was impossible to synchronize the transmitter after previous pairing,
therefore it is best to reset all devices in this case
and pair them one by one.
The microphones and picks themselves look the same
cures from 2017 in devices saramonica there has been a change of screwed minijack plugs.
Previously, the plug was not smaller and it was with a gold cap
and now the plugs are not bigger with longer nuts, which makes them more convenient than previous nuts
There is a small sponge on the microphone housing,
in case we would like to record outdoors in the windy weather - we can easily put a fur on the microphone
which will reduce wind noise,
here I mention that the fur is not in the set and we have to buy them separately,
and here is also a small suggestion for Saramonic
which for a price of PLN 2500 could add protective fur to the set
Returning to the battery for a moment
these are batteries invented by Canon on the LP-E17 model
which have deliver 7.4V and have a capacity of 1000mAh,
although the rechargeable batteries contain the Saramonic brand, rechargeable batteries seem to be better quality substitutes for genuine Canon products
what can be stated by inserting such a battery into a Canon 750d reflex camera
which acts on these batteries.
After starting without anything, the camera treats the battery as original.
In the case of a cheaper replacement, the camera pre-informs us that the inserted battery is not original
and can not get along with it on the energy indicator
At the end I will say that fully charged batteries that we have in the set withstand about 6 hours of continuous work -
in the case of the transmitters themselves it was 13h
using microports in practice when recording 30 minutes of the program
Rechargeable batteries lasting more than a week without charging.
The product itself looks good but let's check how it works.
We check the coverage of the VmicLink5 microtours from Saramonic outside
I am now about 2 m from the receiver
Well, we will check how it works now, and by the way we will check the sound and compare it
What does this sound look like and you can hear it with microports Saramonic UwMic9
which I have just closed here
And now I will go all the time, as we probably hear, we have heard
The manufacturer provides us with a 30-meter range that will work without a problem, I do not know
I think I am now about 10m from the receiver with this transmitter
there is a transmitter * B I also have a transmitter * Saramonic second
And all the time I'm going away I think I'm already 20 m and let's see how it's heard
the range, of course, is shorter with these microports than with other microports
Because of the frequency or 5.8Ghz
I am in the Solidarity Park in Radomsko, this time on the other hand You remember
JTS and it lasted over 100 m then
but this is a completely different technology here we have digital transmissions from this transmitter
so we are constantly checking how to hear it, and we are certainly 30 m quiet
I will ask - do you hear me somehow? - I get the information that I hear all the time so it's totally ok
a small curiosity was with the microport number A
which every now and then lost connection here maybe on this frequency some wi-fi is suitable or something
Well, yes, yes, I see it, I have an indicator here, of course, I also said
The full range of this micro port is still audible
How can you hear me about anything? - apparently it's ok
So we check this flea, I have it closed
I will say a little more above, I will check how it will be heard
Well, I do not think this halfway path is calm
Already more than 30 meters, 50 meters, I think that it is nothing
All the time We check how we hear this when the coverage is over and whether it will end up in this area
should work on 30 m but as we can see, it's probably a little more
question. How do other waves work and just disturb the signal from these microports
I can already see that for the first time the indicator showed that it did not have one stroke
so we can start raining a little bit this time but we check how the range of these microports works
at a further distance the sound was often interrupted. - Which means that the microfleece will withstand over 70 m
that is almost 50 more than the producer assured us
on the way back I changed the microphone from UwMic9, which is fur
if we put on such a fur, it's still the best sponge between the fur and the microphone itself
then we will avoid a gust of wind or some other guard of it
the wind does not interfere in the membrane itself which is in the capsule of this microphone
thanks to this the wind does not reach the microphone at all
he is wearing himself at the ends of this fur, he just smiles
and the sound just does not reach the microphone and thanks to that
We hear everything so well then
Well, it was not a small short attempt to reach this microport
Saramonic which I hope could withstand very much
and certainly more than the producer assured
so I think it will be so much and now let's move on to the advantages and disadvantages of this set
I think that the new Saramonic product is a great equipment
but I do state that the producer seems to have hurried too much when designing these devices
- I mean defects about which I will tell you in the summary.
I have the opportunity to use microfibers for about 2 months
what during the implementation of the internet program #You decide,
of local policy, gave me a full picture of the operation of the microports in practice
if you are willing to listen to how this set handled a large room with an echo
you will find links in the description.
Let us now summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the new Saramonic product
So one by one the plus is a suitcase that works great for storing and transporting microports
to which we can also hide other things
another plus is good sound quality and good ADC-DAC converter used
a huge plus is the use of forward-looking frequency and digital audio transmission
+ no interference which guarantees us without disturbing work within the range
transmitters have been equipped with a second line input which
it bypasses the microphone's power supply and allows you to connect other signal sources such as a telephone or mixer
despite the use of specific batteries, not traditional finger batteries
the operating time of the microports on the batteries was over 6 hours of continuous operation in the case of the receiver
and 11h for transmitters
now let's get to the vices, that is what I miss
that is above all sound level control for each transmitter
available from the receiver settings,
of course, each of the transmitters has the ability to set the sensitivity,
but let's assume that the guest talks very quietly most of the time,
and suddenly he starts to speak louder which causes overloading.
At this point, mute the receiver will silence all other transmitters.
So I think there are three additional settings to adjust the sound level for each transmitter separately
- no vumeter
and on the transmitters and on the receiver there should be a sound control indicator
so that in the event of technical problems, quickly make sure that the sound itself reaches the receiver
- no radio signal indicators on the receivers
I think here again someone did not think, and put this indicator on the transmitters,
only such information about the range is definitely more useful on the receiver than it is
person participating in the program.
By the way, based on digital data transmission
I think that it would be easy to add information about the battery status from the transmitters in the receiver
on the very bottom of the device we have a battery cover in which there is a blockade.
I suggest careful not to hurt yourself because a plastic lock likes to go under the nails when opening it.
- lack of the ability to load and update the firmware through the microusb port in microports
nowadays, where we all strive to unify and facilitate loading
all devices through the microusb port
or possibly a C-type usb,
I think that each device should be equipped with such a socket,
which will allow you to charge the battery or communicate with the computer to update the internal software
Unfortunately, such a sramonic port did not do it in its devices.
Fortunately, we got a charger with a usb cable for the set
at the end I can add the lack of a visible diode from a distance informing about the operation of the device,
and here is such a small curiosity, with the devices turned on by the minijack sockets you can see the blue flashing light inside the device,
which means that such a diode exists but unfortunately it has not been led outside the housing.
the batteries, although they allowed for a long working time, are, however, the use of other batteries than traditional ones
it may seem like a big downside,
but if the manufacturer decided to use traditional batteries, we would have to put up to 6 pieces for each device,
what the device would have to be even bigger and much heavier,
that's why I'm saying that using these batteries is the optimal solution.
I think that we live in times in which devices to transmit sound, ie microports, microphones and other transmitters
they have some kind of "digital revolution",
although most of such devices had a microcontroller inside
and it worked digitally and so the sound was transmitted by analog waves with FM modulation
today, manufacturers are increasingly turning to new digital solutions that, despite their weaker reach
they guarantee better quality and are more resistant to interference
Saramonic VmicLink5 one of such devices which despite many non-refinements
introduces us to the future world of sound transmission from many transmitters to one receiver in digital form.
I think it will be so much
let me know in a comment what you think about these microports,
and if you would like to buy such a set, you will find a link in the description to Robimy.TV
So thank you very much for watching and
Keep warm to the next episode
