I can only film for 20 minutes on my camera and
that was that mark so
Let's begin another session. Shall we? Then
I started my reread of a series and I read the first three in this series before but not the
last three of them
so I read a dance of cloaks, a dance of blades, a dance of mirrors, a
dance of shadows, a dance of
ghosts and a dance of chaos by David Dalglish and this is a six book series called Shadowdance and
basically my thoughts on these are
They are great
For getting me out of reading slumps
it's at least the first three books are fast paced and
they're action-packed and I
Just really enjoy them. It's a it's a good assassin sort of thief
guild
stuff
basically, it's a former thief guild member who is trying to be a good guy and
Make sure that no one preys on the weak
Basically, then I listen to a book that I really didn't like which was a fierce and subtle poison by Samantha Mabry
this book, uh
It was a short audio book. So I listened to it all the way through but I didn't really like it. It was about a
privileged guy in
Puerto Rico and he found himself sort of a girlfriend and then she ended up dead and
then came
Mysterious things about a house and someone who can't touch people because then they died or something like that
And it I didn't like anything about this book. I
Just felt so flat
Then I listened to Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge and
This book was "meh" it was a good book to listen to when I was walking around
But it didn't leave a lasting impression on me
it was sort of like using the Beast retelling it was popular on booktube some years ago and
Basically this girl is going to be married off to a guy because of her father making a deal with him and
He's supposed to be an evil demon
Dude, and she's supposed to kill him on their wedding night
Well, I wasn't really big a fan of it then
I listened to We should hang out sometime by Josh Sundquist and
It's his story about
Basically
Figuring out that he's never really had a girlfriend and why is that?
Yeah chuckled a bit I listened to this when I was driving and it kept me company and
He narrated to the book himself and he did a good job with it, but
No, lasting impressions really then came a book that I really loved and I know that we were on
basically the end of the summer now and that is The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld and
How do I even explain this book
It is about oh
It's not really about her
It's about individuals in a prison on death row and a woman who
tries to
get them off death row give them an honest chance and
It was beautiful and
Heartbreaking and
It was definitely not for the younger audience I
I was just amazed by this book. This book was I
Don't know I get emotional now just thinking about it
It's really good
And then I read Am I normal yet? by Holly Bourne. That is the first book in the Spinster Club and
This features Eve I think.
Struggles with OCD and she's currently trying to get off her medication
My big issue with this book I think is I
Hated all the love interests
That's not really my main issue, but I hated all of them
Sort of and then the main character does some kind of horrible things to other people to
Protect herself and not let anyone know that she is struggling with this. She doesn't want to know
Want everyone to know that she's the "crazy" girl
So that's
I didn't really like those parts
And one thing that I didn't really like too was the fact that as she's going off her medication
at least to me felt like she was spiraling down into
worse and worse patterns and
I
think that
I'm not a professional but
It felt like if she's getting worse and worse
Then why are you?
you should probably stop for a while on the same amount of medication and not just
Trying to decrease the amount all the time. Maybe you should take it a bit slower. I don't know
I'm not a professional but I am someone who is
medicated for my OCD
So that's my personal opinion not a medical opinion
But yeah, otherwise I really liked
the portrayal of how she struggled with the OCD and how she came to terms with it a bit more and
It felt very realistic but I also could see that if I was in a worse place
With my own issues, then this might be a little harsh on me
But I'd enjoy it it felt realistic
Then I read a trilogy and I've been dying to reread these again
It is the Graceling realm trilogy and it's Graceling, Fire and Bitterblue
by Kristin Cashore I
Think that these books are great. I can definitely see why some of my friends don't really like them
but
Or don't like them as much as I do anyway, but I think that these books
portrays the differences in women so well and
Relationships are a massive part and I think they all these books make
relationships work so good and you can see when they're destructive and when they're not and
I
Want to give a special Trigger warnings to the last book which is Bitterblue
there is
Child abuse there there is a lot of manipulation. There's suicide there's self harm. There is a lot of
Issues being a dealt with and
I
Don't know
whilst these books
portrays characters in such a great way they
also
Are just a great adventure
And I love it. I absolutely love it and
I think I love it more this time around
Then I read another trilogy
Which is Blodsarvet, and this is a Swedish trilogy
featuring: Krigarhjärta, Isöhäxan, Profetens Tid all by Henrik Larsson
um, this follows a young boy as he grows up and
He is
Something special and you figure that out later in the book one, um and
It's his journey basically and a lot of fighting
There is a rape scene in book 2 near the end and I
Was kind of hesitant because they don't really deal with that in book 2
but when I finally read book 3 then,
It was continuously being dealt with throughout the book and I think that was really good
That is more than I expected from a dark fantasy book
Much more and I was very pleased by it then. I
read the three first book in the Shatter Me series Shatter me, Unravel me and Ignite me by Tahereh Mafi and
I
First time I read them I wasn't very impressed. It was like, okay, they go by fast and they're kind of interesting
this time I
think that I
picked up on a lot more things and
a
lot more how
the main character
reflects on insta love and
Other things like that and I have a review of it. I can put it in the description
But yeah, I do remember reading them I
Also read Beauty Queens by Libba Bray and this one I heard a lot about on booktube a couple of years ago and
Basically 50 or so contestants for a beauty pageant
Their plane crashes and they're stranded on an island and they're trying to survive there. I
Liked it I really did and I
Cannot talk for all of the representation
But there was diversity in it
And
Well, my personal feelings is that I liked it and it was more than I expected
So that's that
We're getting close to the end now guys
Also Libba Bray narrated it herself I believe and it was a really good
listen next I listened to Vox by Christina Dalcher and
this is that book when women are only allowed to speak 100 words a day and
I was fascinated by the concept and
Then it felt
like it just dragged on, I don't
know, it felt a bit preachy and it felt like it could have been shorter and
maybe this would have a
better impact if it was a short story instead of a book or
instead of a novel I
Think so. I think that this could have made much more impact as a short story
Yeah early with that I
also read Simon vs. The Homo sapiens agenda by Becky Albertalli and
it was a delight it made me so happy I
was constantly
Smiling through it
I was going through a little bit of a rough few days there when I was into it and it made me so happy
basically Simon has been corresponding with someone named Blue online and
Discussing the fact that they're both gay and
they don't really want everyone to know about it and
Then someone is blackmailing
Simon and the actual blackmail is
Because Simon don't want anyone to find out who blue is because blue is not ready for it
so
Yeah
It's cute. And it's fun and I recommend it then I
Sped through, a
Bit I
read Weird things that customers say in book shops and More weird things that customers same book shops by Jen Campbell
basically collection of weird things that customers had said in bookshops either to Jen or to people that she knows or
other ones who send in contributions to the book and
It's fun. It's really fun. Very fast read
Then, I read What did you eat yesterday? Volume one by Fumi Yoshinaga and
this is a manga about a
Gay couple in their 40s they don't
see each other much because of their busy schedules, but they
Their lives are kind of centered around food and it's really cozy and I liked it
It's the second time I read it
Then I listened too Ruined and Avenged by Amy Tintera
These books were better than I expected but not new favorites
basically a girl is
killing a
princess, it was on her way to an arranged marriage and she's taking the princess's place and she does this to
basically infiltrate the royal family and destroy them and also try to find information about her long-lost sister and
I
Have spoiler thoughts about this so I'm not going to go into them. I
Listen to the Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh. I thought it was an interesting concept and interesting idea
but I
Don't know I felt kind of unsettled and I still don't know if it was in a good way or in a bad way. So
yeah, I don't know I
read
The Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray too A great and terrible beauty, and
Sweet far thing
and rebel angels. That's the wrong order
but
Anyway, the Gemma Doyle trilogy. It was brilliant. It's I have a review for that too
I think if I actually published it, I don't know if I did I will link it
But it's the second time. I read them and I really enjoyed them. They
Deal with a lot of heavy topics
Death and sorrow and
a
Lot of similar themes. So yeah, I recommend them and they're beautiful
Let's see, I'm getting stressed now I
read George by Alex Gino or
Melissa story as Alex Gino has said on Twitter that they wanted it to be named and
this is about a
Kid who really wants to play Charlotte in Charlotte's Web in the school play by is not allowed because
Well, teachers having issues with gender and
it is just so sweet and
The friendship is
Adorable and
Basically my heart said "AWWW"
Throughout the entire book
I read the nowhere girls by Amy Reed
These are a couple of girls who decide to try to prove that
Some dudes are
responsible for raping a young girl who previously lived in that neighborhood and
I
Think that this is loosely based on an old play where women go on sex strike
It's basically that play is like the women go on sex strike because they want their men to stop fighting in the war
Here it it's sort of that the women go on sex strikes
to
Basically further the cause and
Make sure that
Men, don't treat them as badly as they have been and that they are getting more aware about how
They talk to women and how they act towards women
Representation wise I can sort of speak for one I guess and that
is one of the main characters who is autistic and
my personal opinion
Since I can't speak for everyone is that I thought that it was dealt
Pretty good. Um
That's not my experience. But I think that it sounded realistic in a lot of ways
But I really would like to discuss this further
No one will watch this video to the end. I don't even think I will have it in me to edit it to the end...
anyway
moving along
Yeah, I also read
Three books in the first law world
best served cold
The heroes and red country by Joe Abercrombie
Really enjoyed all of them. However
Story-wise I enjoyed the first book best served cold more. I felt more attached to the characters and I
was just more invested. The heroes I found entertaining but
sort of
Confusing since I didn't follow along very well
Red country. I was really enjoying it
for the most part
The characters had me more invested
They are grimdark books so a lot of dark subject matters, of course
Okay. So those are the 55 books that I have marked as read
However, I have some books on my currently reading shelf that I have finished
But I haven't written a review for them yet. So I keep them there to remind me to do it
So I'm going to go through those as well
Oh you are going to be so tired of me
I listened to Radio silence by Alice Oseman and
this is
About a girl who
Listens to a podcast and that's kind of her
Sanctuary I guess it is
Where she goes for comfort and she's massive in the fan art
Community for this show and -she realized this-
she gets to know who the one behind the podcast is and a
Lot of things go down after that
It touches on
Sexuality, touches on depression and
Stalkers and
I would say child abuse
I
Also listen to anxiety girl by LaCie London. This was a short book. I
Didn't relate at all to the main character. I don't know if this is actually
Semi
The author's experience or not. I don't know but I couldn't relate to the main character and
I don't think that they went deep enough and
Also, I
Don't know it felt like everything was moving along too fast, so I didn't really get an emotional bond
But it does deal with anxiety and panic attacks and such. I
Also listen to
Sorry, um
I also listen to A long way to a small angry planet
And a close and common orbit by Becky Chambers, and I love them
they were amazing and
Just it was so respectful and
So
Like not a lot happens in any of these books
but
They're very character-driven
And I'm just amazed by the characters
And they warm my heart so much. I
Need to gather my thoughts properly around these books. they were amazing
have I Finished anymore?
Yeah
Me and my partner also listened to The haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson after we saw the Netflix show
Loved the next show
The book I have
conflicting feelings with
it wasn't that scary and
the way that the people talked
basically, I've tried to write similar things like
the characters conversations with each other
But I've been told that "no you can't write that people would be too confused", so I'm kind of annoyed
not by the actual book, but by
teachers
So, yeah, I
Don't know I think I want to read the book is that of listening to it I
got lost easily and
I Don't know
I'm kind of
Undecided so far and then I also recently listened to Becoming by Michelle Obama and
She's a great narrator
I
Enjoyed listening to her and I enjoyed her story. So those are the books that I have finished this year
When I looked at the list. I remember them all but
In like in the beginning when I saw Emily and The Giver I was like "wasn't that years ago?"
time moves in very weird
ways
Yeah
Okay, I still haven't had my breakfast so I'm really tired and I haven't been
Very kind to my voice or my throat and it's starting to hurt. So
If you made it all the way here, please
Just give me a sign?
This turned out so much longer than I expected it to be I read a lot more books than I expected and
Apparently I'm not good at being short and concise
Come talk to me in the comments about anything about the books that I read or
the books that you read and I am
encouraging open discussions about these books because I want to hear everyone's opinion and
Maybe you think I'm an idiot and in that case
Let me know in a respectful way. I
Don't know
Yeah, I'm dizzy I really need to go eat, uh, thank you so much for watching I hope to see you guys in another video
hopefully very soon I
Have one video planned
After New Year's, I filmed a week or so ago I am
scared to put it up and I want someone to that I know to see it first and tell me if I
Handled it in a good way
Because I'm so far unsure about it, and it's very personal and it's scary. So
That might come up a little bit late as I intended it to already be up
But we will see
otherwise
As I said, thank you so much for watching hope to see you guys soon and
I hope that you have a great end of the year
Bye
