Hello, guys! Today we will talk about the Hatsan NOVA. As you know, stay tuned. Something nice is about to come!
This gun, I would say, is basically an upgrade of the Hatsan AT44. This gun takes the AT44, and change some items that make it a modern version of the AT44.
The gun keeps the same standard of Hatsan. Focused on hi-powered airguns, with no regulator valve, the stock is very simple, in wood.
And some other characteristics on the breech that are also the same for Hatsan. Some of those changed items are:
The NOVA comes with the barrel completely silenced. This version of the NOVA claims to have about 30% less noise than an AT44.
The gun comes with a bottle cylinder with 500cc of capacity. Which gives the gun a very high shot-count, higher than AT44. However, it increases the weight.
This gun is very heavy. You take the gun, you feel it is massive, solid. And because of this extra weight of the cylinder, it is a bit unbalanced.
If you try to hold by the middle, you see the gun will drop to the front. So, the gravity center is displaced to the front. You see, it is not central or close to the back of the gun.
This can make you feel tired to hold the gun for a long period. This gun weights about 5kg, what is an absurd in terms of Airguns (PCPs). It is very heavy.
Because of the shape of the bottle, the fill probe does not enter from the front anymore. It now enters in this place on the breech.
It came with a cover, so for you to fill the bottle, you have to push it using the fill probe. You can see… ahhh… I have no nails… Done! This is the pin (the cover) where you fill the gun.
The probe is the standard of Hatsan, same thing.
The magazine, is the same of the AT44, with 10 rounds. The safe, every time you cock the gun it goes back to the safe position, automatically.
For some people this is good, for others this not. But, again, this is the Hatsan standard and they kept this.
You can see that the similarities with the AT44 are many.
You have the version without a regulator, which is the NOVA. And there is a "SUPERNOVA" which comes with the regulator.
However, this gun is focused on energy. This is a gun 100% for hunting. I always mention that, about the type of usage of the gun.
I other words, what is the main purpose of the gun, for what purpose they made it. And this a gun 100% for hunting.
Can you use it in a competition? Yes, you can. But it is not going to give you the same performance that other PCPs would give you if they were built for competition, or extreme precision shooting, like USBR, for example.
You see here the mechanism that holds the magazine, was kept the same. Same thing for the side lever.
But one thing that this gun has and the AT44 does not have. And this is a very nice feature.
They created a mechanism that prevents the magazine to rotate if you have loaded the gun. But, of course, if you manually rotate the magazine,
Or if you take it out, reload it, put it back and close the side lever, it will load two pellets in the barrel. But if you keep it here, you can open and close the side lever,
And you can see that it does not rotate. This is because it was not fired yet.
I found this gun, besides the "reduction of 30% in loudness", and considering this to be a gun with the full shrouded barrel (F.S.B.)… I found this gun a bit loud.
I was expecting less noise for a gun which is 100% silenced.
It comes with a muzzle that you can remove, to add an extra silencer.
But, considering this an F.S.B. gun, it would be necessary.
For example, it is louder than the Benjamin Marauder, for example, which is a gun with the same format for noise reduction.
Shooting here for you to see the noise… Once again, the safe, it must be released.
I found it relatively loud, considering a gun that should be quieter.
Some additional items that come with the gun. A rail for you to add a bipod, it makes your life much easier. There are also those swivels (I forgot the name in Portuguese), for you to add a sling. It helps when you go to the field.
Those things show that the gun was planned and projected to be used on the field, but not for competitions.
The stock is nice, of wood. It is simple, not many details, as it is the standard of Hatsan. It is very similar to the AT44 in this point as well.
Once again, it is a heavy gun for you to hold. As a carbine, you have to hold it in the field, close to your body, and for that, the gun should not be heavier in the front,
But what you feel is, when you hold it, the gun pends to the front. So, if you relax, the tendency of the gun if to fall to the front.
Other guns that have this same displacement of weight to the front is, for example, the Sumatra.
So, for those who use a Sumatra, this gun will be "sweet"!
But for those who are used to guns like the AT44 which is more balanced, and have the gravity center placed a bit on the back, if buy this gun will feel more the difference of weight.
However, this gun is extremely powerful, the technical information will be shown. And you will see that, as I said, the focus is hunting. This is a gun that delivers a lot of energy.
Its focus is energy and this is what you can expect from it.
NO SUBTITLES NEEDED.
Hey, guys!
As we always do, we will test this gun using a Hawke Panorama 2-7x32. I always say I like small scopes, they make us take the best of the gun.
We will test only 3 types of pellets, one heavy, one medium and one a little lighter. This is to show the performance with these three levels of pellets' weight.
Tests were done at 25 meters (27 yards), and pellets direct from the tin (no special selection).
So, let's go? Stay tuned.
Hi all, let's go to the performance test. Everything is set up. We will start with the JSB 15.89 grains, then the AirArms 18.13 grains and finishing with the RWS Superdome 14.5 grains. Ok?
Let's go to see what this gun can do!
As expected of a gun focused on hunting, with the characteristics of the Hatsan NOVA, the group is better with heavier pellets.
The AirArms (by JSB) 18.13 grains, did 0.45in (1.14cm). I can cover the hole with my finger. It is a level of precision very good for a gun so powerful at 25 meters (27yards).
The JSB Jumbo 15.89 grains, did 0.82in (2.1cm), with one flyer. You can see it here. But the main group, with 9 shots, was 0.82in the pictures are being shown.
And the lighter pellet, as expected, grouped a little less. But you see the main group, with no flyers, which is very important and show the quality of the pellet.
The main group was 0.90in (2.3cm), virtually tied with the JSB.
So, you have a very powerful gun, delivering a lot of energy, using JSB, or RWS or AirArms. It will perform well for hunting with any of those pellets.
So, that's it! This was the complete review of the Hatsan NOVA.
