50 Insane US Marines Facts That Will Shock You! - Duration: 17:56.This branch of the U.S. military was at first created to deal with invasions from water
and invading via the water, but the marines do a bit of everything now.
In 1834, the marines became part of the U.S. navy, but they go back to 1775.
Presently there are around 186,000 active members and 38,500 reserves.
It's the smallest of the seven U.S. uniformed services – by those we mean Navy, Army,
Air Force, etc.
There is also a special branch of the marine corps, which is the "United States Marine
Corps Special Operations Command."
This command often deals with more covert operations.
It's all a bit confusing as the U.S. military is comprised of so many parts, but we'll
help explain everything.
Welcome to this episode of the Infographics Show, 50 Shocking Facts about US Marines.
50.
What do they do?
Just like we did in our other shows, we have to give you some basics before we get into
facts you probably don't already know.
Unlike the regular Navy, the marines spend much of their time on land, though they might
capture naval bases or defend them.
As you'll find out, they are kind of military multi-taskers, and many times they have been
the main force in land battles.
So really, the name "marines" can be a bit misleading.
49.
Let the Marines explain Here's the Marines' own mission statement:
"We are forward deployed to respond swiftly and aggressively in times of crisis.
We are soldiers of the sea, providing forces and detachments to naval ships and shore operations.
We are global leaders, developing expeditionary doctrine and innovations that set the example,
and leading other countries' forces and agencies in multinational military operations.
These unique capabilities make us "First to Fight," and our nation's first line of defense."
48.
What qualifications do you need to join?
You must be American, mentally stable, i.e. a history of meth abuse and related-psychoses
in your teens won't go down well in the interview.
You need a high school diploma or GED. 90 percent of marines have a high school diploma,
some have GEDs and a very small percentage have neither.
One military site says there are 35 career fields in the marines, so you'll be chosen
to do what you are good at.
47.
What else?
You must be at least 17, but if you are that age you'll need your parents' permission
to join.
You can be as old as 28, according to Stars and Stripes.
It depends on what you can offer or what you want to do.
46.
How fit do you have to be?
Ok, so you don't have to be quite as trim as a UFC middleweight, but you do have to
be reasonably fit.
We went to the actual marine's website to see what you have to do.
We can't go through it all, but basically you must be decent at pull ups, push ups and
crunches.
You then have to run a three-mile (4.8km) run in 28 minutes or less.
That's not really hard for most people who jog a bit.
You then have a series of combat fitness tests.
All these are scored and for female marines there are different limits for the tests.
But before you even start that, you can't look like you've lived most of your life
playing Mario Kart and eating double-cheese pizza.
The marine's website tells you to contact a marine to find out body requirements, and
we don't really want to sign up ourselves.
We found one site that says they prefer men between 5 feet and 6 feet 8 inches tall and
that weigh less than 255 pounds.
Those are pretty wide parameters, but if you are out of shape boot camp might prove to
be difficult.
45.
Is boot camp hard, like in the movies?
"Are you eyeballing me son!"
Is boot camp hard?
The short answer is yes.
Military.com writes, "Marine boot camp is extremely challenging – both physically
and mentally – considered to be tougher than the basic training programs of any of
the other military services."
There are three phases lasting 70 days, and yes, your drill instructor is usually tough
on you.
One of the last phases is to deprive you of sleep and not feed you much while you go on
a grueling march.
It's called The Crucible.
After boot camp you'll be sent for more training at your respective school.
44.
Nah, not for me Between 11 and 14 percent of people don't
get through boot camp.
43.
And for some people it really wasn't for them
In 2018, a marine dropped dead from a heart attack in San Diego.
42.
Killing your DI We can't find any stories of marines killing
their drill instructor, but in 2008 four marines murdered a United States Marine Corps Sergeant
Jan Paweł Pietrzak.
It had nothing to do with bad feelings, though.
This was not a Full Metal Jacket scenario, just bad people that did bad things.
41.
The first raid Let's get lighter and more historical.
The first ever raid by the marines came just after they were founded when they stole a
bunch of weapons from the Brits in the Bahamas.
40.
Famous marines who don't look the part Way too many famous people to mention, so
we'll give you a few names that surprised us:
Jim Beaver, the guy that wrote the show Deadwood.
Drew Carey, comedian and TV star who looks like he might have struggled with the pull
ups if he wasn't much slimmer in those days.
The Everly Brothers, old school musicians.
Carlo Mastrototaro, a Mafia boss.
Tom Monaghan, the man that gave America Domino's pizza.
Charles Ng, rapist and killer of 25 people currently residing on Death Row in San Quentin.
William Clark Styron Jr., one of America's most celebrated novelists.
You might not be surprised that the list is full of boxers and other athletes, as well
as lots of politicians.
39.
Heartburn Marines must finish eating their meal the
second their DI (drill instructor) finishes his meal, which is why some people say marines
eat really fast.
38.
The Tavern Now, some people dispute that this even happened
this way.
But as the story goes, the way the marines got started was when two Captains, Robert
Mullan and Samuel Nicholas, invited a bunch of decent men for a beer at a place called
the Tun Tavern.
The National Museum of Marine Corps in Virginia has a restaurant called the Tun Tavern.
37.
A few good men You've heard that phrase and it comes from
an ad asking for marines to sign up to sail.
The ad goes like this: "The Continental ship Providence, now lying at Boston, is bound
on a short cruise, immediately; a few good men are wanted to make up her complement."
That was way back in 1779.
36.
Tough Dogs While the British Bulldog has been used to
symbolize the stubbornness and hard temperament of Winston Churchill, as well as being painted
in the past on tough guy's arms, the marines actually use it as its mascot.
What's kinda funny though for all those tough guys and marines, is that this breed
suffers lots of health problems and usually dies at a young age.
35.
Change the mascot Shih Tzu's and Chihuahuas have one of the
longest life expectancies.
34.
Toy Heroes Not many people know that Toys for Tots was
started by the marine reserves.
They have collected over 500 million toys since they started in 1947.
The idea came from Major Bill Hendricks, who took inspiration from seeing his wife donate
toys.
It's not all about being tough and killing people.
33.
Super Rabbit Bugs Bunny was made honorary Marine master
sergeant for his performance in the cartoon Super-Rabbit.
Very few people receive this award, which is given to "individuals in the civilian
community who have made extraordinary contributions to the Marine Corps."
Chuck Norris gained that honor, too, as did comedian Bob Hope.
32.
Jarhead The term jarhead was given to marines during
world war two.
Some say it was because of their "high and tight" haircut but others say it was more
about how the neck of their uniforms was high and so it made their heads look like jars.
Most people on forums discussing this say it was the hair, not the clothes.
31.
Leatherneck Another name for a marine is leatherneck.
This originated in the 19th century when a marine's uniform consisted of a very hard
and high leather neck.
Why?
So, a bayonet couldn't penetrate a marine's neck.
30.
Devils The Germans gave the name of "teufel hunden"
to the U.S. marines in the first world war.
The marines were sent to save Paris from invading Germans and did a tremendous job.
That German phrase above translates to devil dogs.
29.
The big man The first ever officer of the marines, then
called the Continental Marines, was called Major Samuel Nicholas.
He was the guy that was responsible for that Tun Tavern event, but it's thought he went
around lots of taverns looking for able men to fight.
He was a Freemason of a Masonic Lodge and a good recruiter.
He fought in many battles and died only after he retired from the marines, when yellow fever
got him in 1790.
His birthday, 10 November, is now the marine corps birthday.
28.
Honor and ethics If you read the manual for becoming a marine
a big part of the training is about teaching men to be honorable soldiers.
While their job is to defend and kill, they also learn how to do that ethically.
This is why they have the motto "Semper Fidelis", which is Latin for "Always Faithful".
Faithful not only to the marines, but to the country and to the values they have been taught.
27.
PTSD That's not always easy when you have PTSD.
It's said around 8 percent of Americans will get PTSD at some point in their lives,
but as for people in the military that goes up to 11 to 30 percent.
26.
Not enough help One ex-marine writes, "In the military,
young people are indoctrinated into a warrior culture.
When they're sent to boot camp and then to war, they are required to do extreme things
in order to survive."
Some don't cope well.
The US National Institute of Health writes that veterans don't get enough help, and
many turn to drink, drugs and worse.
It writes, "Our findings suggest that mental health disparities are often a leading factor
to the high suicide rates among veterans who experience depression and Post-Traumatic Stress
Disorder."
You've all seen the movies.
Perhaps that phrase "Semper Fidelis" should work both ways, not just when the government
wants men to fight but when it has to take responsibility for the consequences of war.
25.
Marines have it tough Suicides among all veterans is about double
that of American civilians.
In fact, in 2016 a Pentagon report said, "Suicide kills more troops than Islamic State."
This might be all the military, but let's remember the marines are often right in the
mix and have one of the hardest jobs.
One report, although from 2010, said more marines kill themselves than any other branch
of the military.
Not by much, though.
The army was second, and the navy was much lower than both.
24.
The marines have their own hymn This is the first verse:
"From the Halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marine."
23.
What does it mean?
The Halls of Montezuma refers to the battle of Chapultepec in 1847, the Marines took Chapultepec
Castle in Mexico City and the took the city in the Mexican-American War.
The second line refers the Barbary War in the early 1800s when the United States and
Sweden went up against some North African states.
You can actually learn a lot just from analyzing the full song.
There are pirates involved, and who doesn't like reading about pirates.
22.
Normandy Invasion One of the things some people find strange
is that it was the American army who made up most of the Normandy invasion and not the
marines.
Storming the land from the sea, isn't that what the marines are trained to do?
The reason was simply about numbers.
The army had 89 divisions in the war and the Marines had just 6.
The marines were scattered around the world, especially the Pacific, and the army had enough
troops for the invasion.
21.
Marines in other worlds It's often Marines that are depicted fighting
on other planets.
They ended up in the film Aliens, in the movie Avatar as the "jarhead Clan" and also
in the video game Doom.
20.
How to save your friends A marine called Jason Lee Dunham was posthumously
given the medal of honor for an act of valor.
The marine serving in Iraq with the 3rd Battalion 7th Marines threw himself on a grenade and
tried to cover it with his helmet.
It exploded and he was very seriously hurt.
His comrades however were not seriously hurt.
Gunham was evacuated but his injuries were grave, and his life support was turned off
in 2004.
During the posthumous presentation of the medal of honor the first few lines read, "For
conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call
of duty."
19.
Getting there fast In 2002 the U.S, air force and the marines
began a project called "Small Unit Space Transport and Insertion", the acronym being
SUSTAIN.
The object was to be able to deploy marines anywhere on the planet within just two hours
or less.
Suborbital spacecraft would be used to make this happen.
"We've batted ideas back and forth," said one of the main people involved, regarding
the challenge.
We can't find how the program has progressed recently.
18.
Bambi was a marine The kid that did the voice for the cute deer
Bambi, an animated movie made back in 1942, became a marine.
His name is Donald "Donnie" Roan Dunagan.
He's 83 today, but in his younger days – post-Bambi – he served in the marines and was awarded
a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts.
That's a tough little deer.
17.
No girl left behind In the book, "Goodnight Saigon" by Charles
Henderson, it's written that during the Evacuation of Saigon by American Troops in
1975 one marine called Gregory Hargis drove a truck full of prostitutes to an airstrip
and put them on a C-141.
He said they were his friends and signed a responsibility form for them.
This is some of the dialogue in the book: "Where we go," they chimed together.
"You go stateside," Hargis called back.
16.
Reckless The marines had a horse they named Reckless,
but we are not sure how conscious the horse was of its recklessness.
During the Korean War the warhorse carried ammunition, wounded soldiers and more.
She made many, many missions and was injured for her efforts.
She was awarded 2 purple hearts and became a staff sergeant.
15.
Hard Times The New York Times reported in 2009 that when
times are tough economically in the USA and the marines have enough recruits they would
change their ads.
Rather than tempt folks to join they would make marine life look really hard.
When numbers fall, expect to see more enticing ads.
14.
Peyote Again, from the New York Times, there is a
report in 1997 that tells us native Americans were allowed to take peyote – containing
the psychedelic drug mescaline – in the marines in spite of antidrug policies.
It was decided they could on the grounds of their religion, but not on the battlefield
of course.
13.
Feed your head The marines are given a reading list.
Marines must read history, some biographies, and lots about war.
They must also read the U.S. Constitution.
It states on the Library of the Marine Corps website, "I want Marines to read beyond
the list, too, especially paying attention to current events, science and technology
and what our potential adversaries are up to around the world."
12.
The Drill A marine was saved by ad hoc brain surgery
partly using a Black and Decker drill.
The surgeon was CNN chief medical correspondent Dr Sanjay Gupta.
In 2007 the doctor wrote in a CNN article, "I remember the day well.
It was in April of 2003.
A 23-year-old Marine, Jesus Vidana, suddenly fell to the ground, his helmet and head bloodied
by a sniper's bullet."
Gupta writes that the marine survived and did well, saying he wouldn't be telling
you the story if it hadn't gone that way.
11.
Older than the actual country The US marine corps is actually older than
the USA itself, which you should know if you now your history.
It was formed one year before the Declaration of Independence.
10.
Talking down the enemy At the battles for Saipan and Tinian islands
in 1944 during World War II a US marine called Guy Louis Gabaldon is said to have convinced
1,300 Japanese soldiers to surrender.
How did he do this?
After shining shoes on Skid Row and joining a gang he went to live with a Japanese family
when he was 12.
He learned the language and their customs.
For his efforts he became known as the 'The Pied Piper of Saipan'.
9.
Raising the flag One of the soldiers from that famous moment
in history when soldiers raised the American flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle
of Iwo Jima in world war two, was actually color blind.
It's said he got in the marines by memorizing what another man had said in the tests.
He was killed in action a week after that flag was raised.
8.
Look smart Stars and Stripes writes that when marines
are in uniform they should always be well groomed.
But another thing they are told not to do is put their hands in their pockets.
"Again, if you are in the field and it is cold, and you don't have gloves, common
sense says, put your hands in your pocket, but you better not do it in garrison," said
Mary Boyt, of the Marine Corps Uniform Board.
But what if you have an itch in a certain spot?
Stars and Stripes didn't ask that question.
7.
And if it rains?
Male marines are not allowed to carry umbrellas.
This was called a silly rule by some American media after conservatives were apparently
outraged at a photo of a marine holding an umbrella over President Barrack Obama.
By the way, female marines can hold umbrellas.
6.
Drinking snake blood Every year American marines visit Thailand
and do all kinds of jungle exercises.
It's known as Cobra Gold and is a big deal in the Thai media.
It culminates with U.S. marines cutting off a cobra's head and drinking its blood.
5.
The hidden pin Some marines have a pin with their next rank
they could be promoted to somewhere on their uniform, but they often keep that pin covered.
4.
Cake Time During the marine corps birthday every year
there is cake.
The first piece is given to the guest of honor, the second to the oldest marine at the party
and the third to the youngest marine.
We guess then it's a free-for-all.
3.
The band The marines have had a band since 1798, which
has been performing for American presidents at their inauguration since Thomas Jefferson
in 1801.
It's called "The President's Own."
It's usually pretty formal music, although Theodore Roosevelt's daughter Alice asked
the band to perform a Scott Joplin ragtime number.
2.
Loss of life While marines died in small numbers in the
18th and 19th centuries, it wasn't until World War I's Battle of Belleau Wood that
huge numbers died in one battle.
It's said around 5,000 marines died.
1.
Carrying a lot of money around Star Spangled Flags wrote in 2017 that these
days each marine carries about $14,000 worth of gear and equipment, and that's not even
including night-vision goggles.
The Huffington Post writes that top of the range goggles can cost as much as $20,000.
They can be much cheaper, but we guess the marines have the good stuff.
It's also said that in the early 2000s marines would carry just $2,500 worth of gear.
So, are there any other shocking facts about the US Marines that we didn't mention?

Learn to talk to someone's subconscious | Papo Cabeça - Duration: 4:05.Have you ever asked yourself if there is a door to our brain?
Is there something that you can use to talk directly to someone's thoughts?
To figure out these answers, click on the like button down here
and stay with me until the end of this video because today I'm gonna answer these questions for you.
Everyone sees the world in a particular way.
We go through different experiences and keep that in our head
according to the lessons we have learned. Even if two people go through the same situation,
it does not mean that they will conclude the same thing.
What happens is that the information that arrives at you
passes before by a "filter". This filter is formed by the five senses.
It is through them that you filter the information you receive. Each one of us
develop the five senses differently.
Some people are more visual, some pay more attention to the sounds,
others like to touch and smell everything, and there are also those who remember more by the taste of the things have.
The five senses are the gateway to our thoughts.
We thing by mental images, sounds and sensations that we had.
For example, what's the color of your bedroom's wall?
What sound does a ship horn do?
What's the lemon taste? And how painful was taking a shower with grated knees?
The senses are neuro-endings in the eyes, nose, ear, tongue and also in the skin.
And these endings take the stimuli right to the brain.
But we can also create images, sounds and physical sensations.
Think how would be a tiger with pink and yellow fur?
Or what if a chicken got hoarse?
And if you put salt instead of sugar in the coffee, what would it taste like?
What happens is that just because each one of us has one of the senses more developed than the others,
we end up expressing ourselves always taking our preferred sense as the starting point.
But what if the other person has a different 'preferred sense' than yours?
Does it impair your communication with her?
Yes, it does.
You can see the world through the images and the other person through the sounds, for example.
Well, fortunately there is a solution.
The more words that remember the five senses you use,
more sensations you get in the other person
and the chance of keeping them concentrate on what you say is bigger.
Because when using the five senses, you comunicate directly with them thoughts.
It is like experiencing the sensations one more time, or even,
increasing the creativity of who is listening.
You also can get more precise on what you're saying, and give more details than you're used to.
The best writers, poets, musitians and teatches you've had,
probably knew how to get sensations on you and make you remember
or imagine an experience.
So use the five senses
and open up the doors to talk directly to the other's thoughts.
Take the time to pay attention and find out what sense the other person has as preferred as well,
it is a very nice experience to do.
And finally, I would like to know about you:
what is your preferred sense and why do you think it is this one?
Please give me you answer down here in the comments
and subscribe the channel because there are many more videos
that will help you communicate better.
I see you on the next video,
Bye!

"From the Halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom And to keep our honor clean;

Trump Supporters Share Badly Photoshopped Pic Of Trump "Being A Hero" - Duration: 3:24.Trump supporters love to prove that they're obviously not the sharpest tools in the shed,
but that they are in fact tools.
Over the last few days, there's been a very poorly photoshopped picture floating around
in conservative social media circles that allegedly shows Donald Trump reaching out
to a guy stuck in floodwaters from Hurricane Florence.
Donald Trump is on that rescue raft with the other rescue workers.
He's reaching out.
He's trying to help that guy, to save this life.
That photo has over 250,000 shares on conservative social media, and it's along with the caption,
"You won't see this on the news.
Make it go viral."
And you did just that, you made it go viral, but you morons didn't bother to even look
closely at the photo to be able to tell that it is very clearly photoshopped.
Not only that, but let's dissect it for a moment, okay?
Do you see the photo?
Here's the photo.
Now, does it look like Donald Trump is reaching out to help that man?
Or does it look like he's just trying to hand him a Make America Great Again hat?
That's not helping.
Second, if this was a legit photo, why is Donald Trump in a rescue raft wearing a suit,
no hat, no protective gear whatsoever, no life jacket in these raging floodwaters?
He's just that brave?
He's that much of a man's man to go out there full suit and tie to rescue people with, I
guess, a MAGA hat flotation device?
Nothing about it would even make sense, even if it were real!
And that's one of the ways we know that it's not real.
But that hasn't stopped these conservatives from sharing it all over social media.
The real photo actually shows multiple rescue workers in the raft trying to save the man.
Those are from the floods that took place in Texas.
Donald Trump was no where near there.
He's probably never been in any kind of rescue raft, possibly never even in a raft in his
life.
But these people are so desperate to paint Donald Trump as some kind of savior here in
the United States that they are willing to believe anything.
I mean, this is a cult-like mentality that these people have, a cult-like worship of
Donald Trump.
I mean, this is the same kind of propaganda that they put out in North Korea about their
leader, the Kim family, and all of their alleged accomplishments that obviously never took
place.
Here in the United States, we're seeing it among the Trump supporters.
Anyone who believes this photo is real needs to immediately go to their local hospital,
local imaging center, get themselves a CAT scan, and find out exactly what is wrong with
your brain, because something's not right.
It's a very obviously photoshop.
It was actually meant to be humorous, put together by anti-Trump people, and yet the
pro-Trump groups were so hell bent on making their guy look like Jesus Christ himself that
they took it, they ran with it, and now they all look even dumber than they did before.

One-Hit Wonders You Didn't Realize Passed Away - Duration: 6:10.We all have a favorite one-hit wonder that song you just can't help but sing or dance
along to every time you hear it.
But as is the nature of one-hit wonders, we often have no idea what happened to their
performers after that initial success.
In fact, you may not even realize that several of your favorite one-hit wonders have sadly
passed away.
Rich Cronin Run up to any '80s or '90s baby and say, "New
Kids on the Block had a bunch of hits," and they're pretty much guaranteed to respond
with, "Chinese food makes me sick!"
For those of you who are still trying to figure out what the New Kids have to do with Asian
cuisine, these lyrics are actually the chorus of the uber-popular 1999 hit "Summer Girls"
by the boy band LFO.
The group consisted of Devin Lima, Brad Fischetti, and Rich Cronin.
They were TRL posterboys and their catchy, fun-loving jam was on heavy rotation.
After complaining of painful headaches, Cronin was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer
in 2005.
That same year, he established the Rich Cronin Hope Foundation to bring awareness to the
importance of the volunteer bone marrow registry.
He was able to bounce back from his health crisis and in 2008 released a solo album called
Billion Dollar Sound.
He also appeared as a cast member on the VH1 reality show Mission: Man Band.
Cronin announced that he was back in the studio in 2010, but we never got to hear what he
was working on.
He passed away on September 8, 2010 after suffering a stroke at the age of 35.
Michael Cuccione To capitalize on the popularity of boy bands
in the '90s and early-2000s, the fictional group 2Gether was created.
A self-titled MTV movie parody followed, along with a spin-off series that chronicled the
formation of the band.
The made-for-TV film became so popular that the guys became real-life pop stars.
Among the characters was Michael Cuccione, who played Jason "Q.T."
Mcknight.
When the MTV spin-off series aired, Cuccione was noticeably absent from the last few episodes.
His character suffered from a fictional ailment, but in real life, Cuccione was battling health
issues, too.
At the age of 9, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.
After successful rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, his uncle told MTV
News that he was cancer-free.
But the treatments left him with respiratory issues that claimed his life just eight days
after his 16th birthday.
Melanie Thornton Along with her bandmate Lane McCray, Melanie
Thornton helped form the '90s group La Bouche.
Their Euro-inspired pop songs boomed through the speakers of nightclubs across the globe,
and their most popular hit, "Be My Lover," peaked at number 6 on the Billboard charts.
By 2000, Thornton decided to leave the group behind, and she released her first and last
solo album called Ready to Fly in May 2001.
On November 24th, 2001, Thornton was aboard a plane traveling from Berlin to Zurich which
crashed just a few miles short of its final destination, killing her and 23 other passengers.
She was 34.
Natina Reed Shamari Fears, Brandi Williams, and Natina
Reed started the 90's girl group Blaque, and their most successful song, "Bring it all
to Me," hit number 5 on the Billboard charts.
Many compared the group to a younger version of TLC, and Reed's style was similar to TLC
group member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, who took her under her wing as her protegé.
In 2000, Reed starred in the hit Kirsten Dunst flick Bring it On, but her future in the entertainment
industry was cut short.
On October 26, 2012, Reed was walking along a Georgia roadway when a vehicle struck her.
The driver called 911, and Reed was transported to a hospital, where she died.
She was 32 years old and left behind a 10-year-old son.
Dan Hartman He may be dismissed by some as a one-hit wonder,
but Dan Hartman was actually an accomplished producer and songwriter who penned hits for
James Brown, Tina Turner, and Joe Cocker.
As a solo singer, Hartman made the Billboard Top 100 Chart multiple times, though his most
well-known jam, "I Can Dream About You," was his only song to crack the top ten.
That was in 1984, and just ten years later, he succumbed to a brain tumor, which was a
complication from AIDS.
Minnie Riperton Long before Mariah Carey blew listeners away
with her nearly ear-piercing high-octave range, singer/songwriter Minnie Riperton secured
her place in vocalist history with the high note in "Lovin' You."
According to Riperton's husband, singer/songwriter Richard Rudolph, "Lovin' You" originated from
a melody Riperton was humming over a "jazz samba" he was playing while she cooked a meal.
They recorded the melody to use as a distraction for their new baby, Maya, who quote "never
wanted her mama out of her sight."
In case you missed that, yes, we're talking about a young Maya Rudolph of SNL fame.
Riperton passed away just four years after "Lovin' You" made it all the way to the number
1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
Stuart Adamson The UK pop band Big Country found international
success with the track "In a Big Country."
MTV's heavy rotation of the accompanying music video catapulted it onto the Billboard Hot
100, despite the fact that it received little radio airplay.
The band continued making albums for more than a decade after its smash debut, but the
group never repeated its initial success. The band was on hiatus after a brief reunion tour
when lead singer Stuart Adamson's body was found in a hotel room in Hawaii after he'd
been declared missing for more than a month.
Adamson's death was ruled a suicide.
He was 34.
Simone Battle The creator of the Pussycat Dolls used the
same formula of beautiful women, skimpy outfits, and girl power songs to create the pop group
G.R.L.
Its members Emmalyn Estrada, Paula van Oppen, Lauren Bennett, Natasha Slayton, and Simone
Battle began recording songs in 2013 and really broke out when they were featured on the Pitbull
track "Wild Wild Love."
Then, tragedy struck.
Battle was found hanging in her Hollywood home on September 5th, 2014, and her death
was ruled a suicide.
Friends and family told investigators Battle was allegedly suffering from depression and
struggling with money issues.
Though the group had just returned from a successful overseas tour, sources claimed
Battle feared G.R.L. would never become a huge hit in the States.
G.R.L. attempted to continue performing after Battle's death but disbanded nine months later.
If you or anyone you know is having suicidal thoughts, please call the National Suicide
Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Iyanla Warns Against Marrying a Man for His Potential | Iyanla: Fix My Life | Oprah Winfrey Network - Duration: 2:33.- Why are you here?
Well, I've been married for 12 years.
Uh-huh.
And I met my husband and we got married within 2
and 1/2 months of dating.
He had the potential of being the type of guy
that I was actually looking for. I mean--
The potential.
You know what potential means?
How do you define potential?
Almost, but not quite.
Ah, you're right.
Potential means you ain't doing nothing now.
[CHUCKLES]
And the only thing you can bank on
is what's going on right now.
You can't bank on what might happen.
He'd make me laugh. He was funny.
He was gorgeous. I was very attracted to him.
So why didn't you just marry him for that
instead of what might happen?
Well, I thought I could-- we can just fix-- we can work
on it together and just fix--
I can fix what he needed to be fixed.
And if I had anything--
Well, who said he wanted to be fixed?
That's where I made my mistake.
There's a few things I didn't like
about him when I first married him,
but I thought I could change him.
IYANLA (VOICEOVER): Many women convince themselves
that they can change a man to become who they want him to be.
By doing so, they bypass the step
of getting to know their partner in a meaningful way,
in part, because they haven't made the effort
to get to know themselves.
And I suspect this is the case with Miss Malorie.
It's a common mistake that women make.
They manipulate men.
But that's a clear sign of a controlling person.
And it's a clear sign of a problem relationship.
So what is the state of your marriage now?
I don't know.
You don't know?
I haven't heard from him.
We got into an argument.
When was the last time you saw your husband?
Five months ago.
How about the marriage is over.
I mean he'd never-- he won't respond.
He's responded to me a couple of times through email.
Everything you've said is about him.
You haven't said nothing about you.
What's your choice, as a woman?
What's your position, as a woman?
What's your desire, as a woman?
I filed for divorce.
So then why are you here?
I'm here because, my husband and I, we love each other.
He have a few issues.
We can work it out.
Um--
But again, you're talking about him.
I kno--
What about you?

Arsenal boss Unai Emery hailed for bold tactical call over Gunners strikers | AFC News - Duration: 1:39.Arsenal boss Unai Emery has hit gold by playing Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
together.
That's according to Tony Cascarino, who has hailed the Spaniard's decision to play
the duo up top.
After a tough start to the season, Arsenal are finally hitting their stride.
They eased to a 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday and are now unbeaten in five games.
And Cascarino reckons says things are starting to click for Emery.
"One good sign about Unai Emery's early days at Arsenal is that he seems to be trying
to work out a way of playing that allows him to start both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick
Aubameyang," he told The Times.
"Arsenal look a much more threatening team with both forwards in the starting XI and
having Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka in midfield gives good balance between attack
and defence.
"I said last season that Lacazette looks isolated when he doesn't have like-minded
forwards playing in and around him so he can play flicks and quick interchanges.
"The pair get on well off the pitch too — if Emery can get both of them firing on
it they can score 40 to 50 goals between them this season."

Trump Says Puerto Rico Won't Get Statehood Because They Are Mean To Him - Duration: 3:22.Yet, more bad news this week for the US territory of Puerto Rico as Donald Trump said during
an interview with Fox News that there is no way in hell he would ever consider granting
the island-nation statehood to become an official state of the US.
And the reason is because Donald Trump is such a petty little snowflake that he doesn't
wanna even consider giving them statehood because there's people on the island like
San Juan mayor, Carmen Cruz, who aren't nice to him, who are mean to him.
That is the actual reason that Donald Trump gave as to why he would not even consider
giving Puerto Rico statehood, something that folks on the island have been trying to get
for decades now.
Because they have all of the burdens of being a US citizen, they have to pay taxes, they
have to do all that stuff.
They just don't get any of the benefits.
They don't have a representative, or at least not a representative that has a vote.
So, nobody's out there looking out for their best interest, but they must adhere to all
of the laws and regulations of the United States.
So, they have all the burdens and none of the benefits.
And obviously, that's not fair.
I mean, hell, that's what this country was founded on.
No taxation without representation, and yet we're doing it to the island of Puerto Rico.
Here is Donald Trump's exact quote, "With the mayor of San Juan as bad as she is, and
as incompetent as she is, Puerto Rico shouldn't be talking about statehood until they get
some people that really know what they're doing.
Something they talk about with people like that involved in Puerto Rico, I would be an
absolute no."
So Donald Trump, the snowflake president, actually wouldn't even consider it because
Carmen Cruz has been very critical of the Trump administration, and rightfully so, because
of their disgusting and deliberately heartless response to hurricane Maria.
I mean, for this man to go out there and continue to attack this women, a week after he denied
the official death toll on the island from the hurricane, is absolutely disgusting.
And he talks about, "They need good leadership.
They need strong leadership, and then we can talk about it."
You know who needs good, strong leadership?
Those of us on the mainland in the United States, too, because it certainly isn't you,
Mr Trump.
Mr Trump, you are absolutely one of the most heartless, disgusting, weak-willed presidents
that I have ever seen in my entire lifetime, and hopefully we never see anyone like you
sitting in the Oval Office again.
Those people in Puerto Rico are United States citizen, and they deserve the same kind of
benefits that the rest of get to enjoy.
You don't get to hammer their leadership because they're upset that you let almost 3000 people
die on their island because you and your corrupt and incompetent governement couldn't get their
act together to get down there and save people.
That's not a problem with the leadership on the island, that's a problem with the leadership
in the Oval Office.

16 WEEKS PREGNANCY UPDATE | MY OWN💩💩 MAKES ME SICK!! - Duration: 13:27.hey Every one. So now we are on to week 16 of me being pregnant
So week 16 has been a really great week week 16 starts off with me not throwing up at all
I tried to do something a little bit different this time around learning from weeks 14 and 15
I pretty much would wake up before nausea hits and I grabbed something late to eat. For example cruel. Oops
Because that's something that I guess the baby likes. So I just have a handful of Froot Loops
I would have it dry no milk or anything
I just have a handful of Froot Loops and I'll have some yogurt with it or I'll have a
Cup of chocolate milk until I can make myself a proper breakfast
so I want to mention to you guys that the baby is pretty much the size of a
Avvocato or if you're from the Caribbean, then you probably can compare it to the size of a sugar apple
So the baby is about four and a half inches long
That's just to give you guys an idea of how big the baby is
so now on to day two of being 16 weeks pregnant, I
Was noticing movement. It was very late at night
Probably about 11 o'clock not very late, but it was a little bout 11
Uh properly for me 11 o'clock at night and I was lying down. I kinda just had my
hand like right here and
I was just lying down with my eyes closed and I
Felt the baby moving like I felt it
brushing up against my hand and
It was really it was cool
I was really really nice and I was so tired that I could not even like think say anything out loud
I kind of just kept my eyes closed and just kept feeling the movement and then I fell asleep
I was so tired now on to day three he was here and he was actually in the living room and he was filming a
Video for our a summer channel and I was here in my room
I had just taken a shower and this is when I usually feel movement from the baby
I was here and I just had just taken a shower and I was I
Think I might have been
applying my shea butter to my stomach and I was kind of struggling my stomach and then I normally do like three pushes on the
Stomach so I go like one two three
And I want to say about a minute later the baby did the exact same three pushes back
So I felt it on the right side stomach and I felt three
Pushes according to Google the average baby at 16 weeks their feet are I guess you could say
Facing this way and the head is more up here. And then you of course you have the arms somewhere here
So pretty much I was feeling this push right here right on this side. So I normally would go like this and
You know kind of move it around
And see and then about a minute later
I got the exact same push right here and I felt push push push
and I was like
that was weird and I ran outside and I ran to Limbo and I'll say the baby's moving the baby's moving and
Then he kind of jumps up and he trying to see the baby moving, but of course it never works out that way
but I want to see he kind of stared for a bit as always he waited for about two minutes and then
He said did you do that? And I was like, I don't know
I didn't see what he saw and I didn't feel what he was seeing
so maybe the baby did move and I wasn't paying attention, but
He said that he saw like my stomach kind of go like this. So, I don't know it could have been the baby
I don't know what happened. So day four. I had absolutely no nausea
He was here. So normally Wendy's here. I tried to get up early make breakfast for the two of us
So we got her fairly early
Yeah, we got a fairly early that day. So right before nausea could even have a chance to try and beat me up
I was you know making eggs and he was frank plantain and
I
Ate and had a really great day. So day four was a really really great day. I felt really good
No nausea, no vomiting. Nothing. It was a really awesome date day five was another great day
No nausea, no vomiting, but I think I did gag a bit. Oh, I forgot to mention this
So I was noticing this from before and I wasn't sure if it was what was happening, but I haven't been noticing that
TMI that when I go to
to do number two and you know after I'm done I cannot stand the smell of my own poop and
It makes me
Super super nauseous. I started gagging like crazy and to the point of actually throwing up and day six
I finally threw up because I could not take it. Well for most part, we know that our own poop. It doesn't smell good and
We can kind of stand it
But I guess while being pregnant I just can't stand it. It just it's horrible and it really makes me sick
So they sick I finally threw up after
doing number two
it was kind of funny and a little bit embarrassing to share but
It's the truth
And I went on Google just to see if other woman we're dealing with the same problem and there was a ton load of other
Woman seeing the same thing that they go number two
And then they start throwing up like they feel so disgusting and you just want to hurry up and get out of the bathroom. So
That is what I'm experiencing now that I literally cannot do number two without feeling sick. So
Hopefully that does not continue on into the pregnancy
And later on into when a baby's here and I can't spend the smaller baby's poop. That's gonna really suck
So I'm hoping it's something that says temporary and it won't last too long. It's getting worse
Like I was noticing around maybe thirteen weeks
But it wasn't as bad as this I would just gag a little bit and I can finish up doing what I need to do
But now it's 16. It's so bad that I need to like not do number two ever. So
I'm just hoping that it doesn't last too long. So the next day I was I I don't know what I was doing
I was taking too long to eat in the baby was getting frustrated or something
but I was kind of just sitting down and then I felt like a kick and it came from
Somewhere back inside here. So it probably was a kick because it was it was really deep
inside and it was like it really caught me off guard cuz like a like a quick jab and I was just like
Oh, what the hell like why did you do that? Like he was so like it was so strong on the inside of me
I was really taken back from it
Like it hit me and I was just like oh, okay, and then I want to say about a minute later
I felt the need to throw up. So I don't know if the baby hit like something
I don't know
But after that I had to throw up
So I thought it was kind of interesting that I got a cake, and then I need to throw up
I don't know
let me know if any of you guys have experienced that where the baby kind of maybe moves or kicked you or punched you or
Something and then you have to throw up. So yeah, I wasn't nauseous or anything. I didn't feel no type of nausea
It was literally a kick and then maybe of a moment later I had to throw up
So, yeah, so that's pretty much 16 weeks
so before I end this video I'm definitely gonna show you guys a bump and I want to share something that I received in the
Mail the other day
I think the person reached out to me on Instagram first in the DM and then she emailed me pretty much
Someone sent me her name is Christina. She sent me a
Gender-reveal package, which I thought was really nice
so this is my first gift from I guess social media her company is called r4
Elevated I'll leave it link down below just in case I'm not seeing it right if you go on Amazon II and you type in
To see small world. You should be able to find her products and I'll leave all four information down below
So she sent me a nice little gender-reveal package. So let me show you guys what it looks like
so this is the package comes in a white box and
When you open it up you have your gender-reveal
Goodies, so in my goodie bag, I got two black balloons
The really big ones and then I got some pink
Powder I also got some blue powder
so pretty much what you do you blow these up fill it up with the color that matches the gender of your baby blue for
boy pink for girl and
then of course you and your partner or whatever you guys pop it and then the pink or blue powder will
Fall out. So she also sent me some confetti. You can also put this in the balloon
Or you can use it as decoration for maybe a table or something
She also sent me some blue balloons for decorations, which is gonna come in handy
She also sent pink ones. She also sent like a little baby can be a cake topper. It can be a cupcake topper
It can be just a decoration piece. So a little baby it also comes with instructions for the gender-reveal
balloons, which I pretty much know how to do it, but it does have
Instructions which is handy and then she sent a whole lot of beads
so
You know the bead game where everyone gets a bead each and you cannot say let's say you can't say the word
Baby, you can't you can't say the word
Shaniek you can't sit a word d or some you know
Something like that
everyone in the room cannot say that word and if someone says it you lose your bead baby and someone else hears you they get
To take your bead from you. Now, it's theirs at the end of the party. Whoever has the most bead winter prize
So that is definitely gonna come in handy for the gender-reveal
So so a huge shout out to Kristina for sending me this package
And again, I will have her links down below in case you guys aren't interested in your own gender-reveal package
You guys will be seeing a gender-reveal party
video
Sometime in October
That's when we plan to do the actual party D and I will not know the gender
We are going to find out on the day of the party with everyone
The only person that's going to know is going to be my friend Nikita
She's going to be in charge of the decorations and whatever
I'll probably help her out with a decoration since it we both pink and blue
She's going to be the one dealing with the actual reveal. So I'm very excited for that
And of course we will do our best to vlog everything
So let me get up and show you guys to the bump. I feel like every day the bump gets bigger. So
Let's get up. So this is the bump from the front
You can really tell that I'm pregnant cuz now my bellybutton sticks out so much
I've always had an Audi growing up, but I want to say maybe a few years ago
It kind of went in and now that I'm pregnant its back out again, but it's all good
so this is my stuff from the front and
I'm just wearing a white shirt this time
And then from the side
This is how the belly is looking so that's what the Billy is looking like you can definitely see
It's a lot more round now and a lot of you guys say because I'm carrying low. It's a boy
and a lot of you guys say that
you were carrying low, but it you ended up with a girl and
Yada yada. I know a lot of you guys are guest. I want to see for the most part. Everyone is about 5050 girl-boy
So that's what a bump is looking like from that way
The front in the front you can kind of tell you know, you can talk from the front. I feel like I'm really big. Um,
And then there you go again the belly button really just sticks out a lot
mmm
yeah, that's pretty much that maybe I should point this out just in case anyone is wondering I'm wearing a camisole right now and it
Has a built in bra. I got this for like 3 bucks at
Stitches but you can pretty much find it anywhere
So if I kind of get up a little bit it's not padded
So you will kind of see your nips, but I pretty much just wear this under like a light cardigan or sweater around the house
And that's what it looks like
It has a built in bra which isn't too tight around my belly area
Because sometimes it can make me nauseous if it's a little bit too tight. It has adjustable straps and I would highly recommend
For anyone that's pregnant and having the same issue as me when it comes to wearing bras or anything
That's tight yourself some camisoles that have the built in bras, or you can just tank tops if you don't care about the whole
Nips showing just get regular tank tops. I think this is this size
Might be a size large, you know, I think it's a size large
Normally, I would get like a smaller medium
But of course I'm pregnant so I decided to get myself a size large
I got myself a gray one as well
and I think I'm gonna go back and get more because I really comfy and you can dress it up or dress it down if
You want to so I thought I would mention that just in case any of you guys are wondering about what clothes I'm wearing
I'm pretty much wearing the same stuff
I'm trying not to
Spend money on unnecessary things
I try to go the cheaper route and just get cheap little things that are comfy
Of course, I won't fall apart on me stuff that are comfy. You look decent and
Not too expensive
So so that's pretty much the end of 16 weeks. Hopefully you guys enjoyed this video
if you did
Please give me a thumbs up if you're not subscribed, make sure you are so you don't miss out on my next video
And as always leave me a comment
