Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee listen as Sen. Jeff Flake (L) (R-AZ) speaks
with Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) after Flake announced he is in favor of additional time in the Kavanaugh
investigation September 28, 2018 in Washington, DC.
Flake was crucial in getting the committee to agree to an additional week of investigations
into accusations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh before the full Senate votes.
A day earlier the committee heard from Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, a California professor
who has accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her during a party in 1982 when they were
high school students in suburban Maryland.

At the end of the Kavanaugh/Ford hearings on Thursday, there was a moment that I am
not entirely sure many people caught.
It involved California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary
Committee, blaming Christine Blasey Ford for her anonymous letter leaking to the press.
"Mr. Chairman, let me be clear, I did not hide Dr. Ford's allegations.
I did not leak her story, she asked me to keep it confidential and I kept if confidential
as she asked," Feinstein said when asked about how the letter got out.
"It's my understanding that her story was leaked before the letter became public,
and she testified that she had spoken to her friends about it and it's most likely that
that's how the story leaked, and she had been asked by press.
"But it did not leak from us," she said.
"I assure you of that."
The truth of that statement depends on who you consider "us."
If it encompasses those around Feinstein — in particular the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary
Committee — that's apparently a lie.
Let's go back to where the story was originally published, in The Intercept.
While Glenn Greenwald's far-left journalistic baby may indeed be problematic in so many
ways, we can pretty safely say they are not typically going to lie about where their sources
came from.
So, let's take a look at the original article on the Ford letter, written by Ryan Grim and
published on September 13: "The letter took a circuitous route to Feinstein, the top-ranking
Democrat on the Judiciary Committee.
It purportedly describes an incident that was relayed to someone affiliated with Stanford
University, who authored the letter and sent it to Rep. Anna Eshoo, a Democrat who represents
the area.
"Different sources provided different accounts of the contents of the letter, and some of
the sources said they themselves had heard different versions, but the one consistent
theme was that it describes an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high
school.
Kept hidden, the letter is beginning to take on a life of its own.
"Eshoo passed the letter to her fellow Californian, Feinstein.
Word began leaking out on the Hill about it, and Feinstein was approached by Democrats
on the committee, but she rebuffed them, Democratic sources said," the article continued.
Feinstein's fellow senators want their own opportunity to gauge whether or not the letter
should be made public, rather than leaving it to Feinstein to make that call unilaterally.
The sources were not authorized to speak on the record, and said that no senators on the
committee, other than Feinstein, have so far been able to view the letter."
Now, we can tell several things.
The first is that, when it came to the chain of possession of the letter, Democrats were
the sources.
In the second case, it's pretty clear that the sources were familiar enough with the
letter and its import that they were likely either Democrat lawmakers or aides to those
lawmakers.
Leaving aside the possibility that the "leak" of the letter was, in fact, a very controlled
one, the article makes it clear just who did it: Democrats inside Congress.
The question of who leaked to The Intercept is not just a parlor game here.
Remember, no less than Democrat House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has said that Christine
Blasey Ford was victimized by having her anonymity blown.
If they truly believe this — and I will just say that's a matter of much question
at this moment — then she was victimized by them.
The intruder, so to speak, is inside their own house.
It's curious how they are not making too much effort to find out who it really was,
especially since it definitely was not one of Ford's friends.

ANTKEEPING | Hibernation - Duration: 9:11.
There are many
requests for a video about ants' hibernation and
how it should be done in captivity,
at the point that I decided to anticipate the publication of this video.
I would start from the beginning and why
ants like many other organisms, perform this metabolic process
to survive during the winter months.
So-called warm-blooded animals belong to
the category of homeothermic organisms, like humans,
that are biologically evolved to maintain an optimal and stable temperature
inside the body, unconditionally from the external climate.
If it's too cold our body shakes,
if it's too hot we will start to sweat to lower the temperature.
This process is called endotherm.
The endothermic mechanism allows some
of the homeothermic organisms to maintain the body at a constant temperature.
The opposite of homeothermy is the poikilotherm,
belong to this category all animals
called "cold-blooded"
whose body temperature varies greatly according to environmental conditions.
Not having an internal temperature regulation mechanism
they follow the fluctuations of the outside temperature
and use the environment to manage it.
They stay in the sunlight to increase it
or in water to lower it, this type of thermoregulation
is called ectothermy.
This behavior is particularly developed in reptiles,
but also in amphibians, in many fish and invertebrates,
among which also ants
All living organisms can be part of one
or more of these categories: for example cats and dogs are
homeothermic and endothermic, but they can also use
the ectothermy when they rest in the sun.
Bees are poikilothermic and ectothermic
but can use wing muscles to generate heat, which also makes them endothermic.
As far as we are concerned, ants belong to the
poikilothermic and ectothermic categories.
Temperature plays an important role in all living things
some biological processes, activation of enzymes
or metabolisms are optimized to act at specific temperatures.
Endothermics as mentioned above,
maintain constant the internal body temperature
and as a result our metabolism remains constant,
our digestion and respiration remain constant,
muscles, movements, nervous activity, circulatory system
remain relatively constant whether
the external temperatures are hot or cold.
Ectothermics such as ants
have a temperature that matches with the environment
and binds their biological processes
When the ambient temperature is high
even the internal temperature of the ants is high
and this leads to an acceleration of all their processes
they digest the food and convert it into energy more quickly
which means that they move faster,
they are more hungry, their Nervous processes and
cell reproduction are faster,
queens produce more eggs and larvae grow faster,
in short,
everything is faster when temperatures are warm.
When the ambient temperature lowers
their bodies become cold
and in these conditions
ants simply slow down.
Feeding, movements, metabolism,
growth all undergoes a strong slowdown,
and that's what happens when we put our colonies in hibernation
Biologically speaking,
poikilothermy and ectothermy are valid survival strategy
during the winter as food demand drops considerably
when a homeothermic organism, like human
on the other side needs more food to keep its internal temperature warm.
Poikilothermics and ectothermics in cold temperatures
don't need food because everything is slower.
During winter hibernation ants don't need food
because they're virtually shut down to a state of stasis,
this means that even the maintenance by
the antkeeper will be less.
Beyond to be poikilothermic and Ectothermic
ants also fall into the category of
bradymetabolic organisms.
Bradymetabolism refers to a lethargic state so slow
that it is almost close to death,
that in response to extreme winter conditions
or lack of food.
When temperatures are lower, you will notice the ants' appetite and
in general all the activities will drop considerably,
they will try to close the entrance of their nest with debris.
Some of them will make stocks to survive
during the months when they don't have the possibility to forage.
Ok, let's move on to the practical part,
at what temperature it is performed and how
antkeepers induces his colonies to hibernation.
Essentially you have to provide to your colony a very cold place.
Do not place the formicariums outside without any protection
because temperatures of some degrees below 0°C
could kill the ants,
in nature they have the possibility to dig deeper
to reach the ideal temperature.
If you do not have other possibilities,
you could build a polystyrene box where you can place the formicarium inside.
If you have the possibility to use a refrigerator all be better,
but make sure to set the minimum settings and check
that the temperature is right, this is probably the best method
because it allows you to have a fixed temperature.
The most plausible option is
to put your colonies in a cold room without heating
such as a basement, a garage, or anyway
where the temperatures are low enough for
them to hibernate
Don' t worry about freezing your ants to death,
in their hemolymph there is glycerin
which acts as antifreeze and prevents it from freezing at temperatures close to 0°C
temperatures close to 0°C
A temperature between 5 to 10 °C
is sufficient for most of the species.
Ants don't require food during the hibernation phase,
but still need moisture and water.
If the colony is still in the test tube,
you don't need to worry about because they're already inside.
If your colony is already in a formicarium,
you need to manage these factors properly.
Although in winter it will be easier to keep humidity because of the temperatures
don't forget for any reason to hydrate the nest
with a certain regularity.
Some species of ants native to the warmer regions
such as the south and the islands of Italy with the classic Mediterranean climate,
can do without the hibernation
process if they are kept warm during the winter.
Usually these species enter in a slowing down stage
already around 15-20 ° C
Their evolutionary instinct is to hibernate during the 2-3 cold months
when in nature temperatures are low and food is scarce.
If you dealing with these species
then you will need to provide food from time to time as
the colony is not in a complete hibernation stage.
Pay attention to sudden changes in temperature
because they can be dangerous for the colony.
You should ensure a gradual decline by reaching the hibernation
temperature within a few days.
For example, you should not move the colony from a temperature of 28 ° C
directly in the refrigerator to 5 ° C. The same also applies to the
awakening from hibernation.
If inside the colony there are still many pupae
waiting to open, you should wait until they are born...
... at least most of them.
Unlike larvae and adult ants, pupae can not enter in stasis
and in this stage they will not exceed winter.
My personal advice is
to perform always the annual hibernation if
the species performs it in nature.
The process of hibernation is a very important stage
in the life of an ants colony, it allows a prolonged
rest to the workers but mainly allows the queen
a pause from the deposition of eggs and will prolong their life.
Furthermore, after a correct hibernation phase,
phase, the deposition rate will be faster and more tight
than a restless cycle.
If you dealing with an exotic species,
you need to know very well about their habits.
In particular the species that come from tropical climates
do not hibernate and you will have to make sure
to keep a warm temperature even during the winter.
Probably you will need to use mats
or heating cables.
I hope this tutorial can be handy
to understand the role of hibernation in the life cycle of ants
and as usual if you liked the video

Purposes not become a tool for miscreant behavior. I totally forgot his voice. I don't know. It's not a big deal
I was testing its authenticity not trying to hurt anyone as one who understands the thrill of an authentic aesthetic
I must empathize and praise your dedication, but your safety is the priority
Whatever. Goodnight Lucien. I love you. It's not like I'll sleep at night. I love you, too, at least finish your drink

suppli not it's
You know jumping to conclusions here. Okay, but the graves I can't all wait. No, they're for trees
Why would you dig them like that though?

I would like to believe this is connected to you turning a new leaf
I can't help but be suspicious that this favor is for potentially unscrupulous purposes
I think that was his voice scratch that ah bless my tap water the next morning at the coffee spoon if it isn't my favorite
Stud muffin with a muffin only you can make cannibalism. Look half is delicious and if it isn't my favorite
Siren, that's a long face. Did he by chance miss the hair of a dog? That's a rookie mistake Robert. I'm thinking about mine
You're in a smart mood bime's are a rare subset of golf. Hey, it's John septic guy. How's it going? My dude?
Felix I guess I don't know limes are the true
starving artists think about it Mary who cares about mimes unless if they're also a part of the mine commute if you see mine then
You better tip them. They're hungry
What they're miming is likely to likely a hunger induced hallucination by bed
Anyways, Damian, I'm crapping your drinks. I'll be right back
Don't let this weirdo sell you on whatever is on like Italian food a cow proves a salad can be a refreshing change in pace
Particularly in the summer after one grows weary of stoking their cast-iron stove
He's got bite marks on his neck. Are those like birthmarks or something? I don't know. What about garlic bread
Damian let's go. My personal Prince of Darkness world ready late catch about Jim and Kim's tonight Robert
Jim and Kim do I know Jim and Kim? I don't know what Jim and Kim. Well, they're Jim and Kim in this game

Driving from FLORIDA to TEXAS via Pensacola, Perdido Key, Gulf Shores, and Mobile - Duration: 11:34.
Good morning, everyone! We are in Tallahassee, Florida
on our way to Austin, Texas
We are returning from our road trip through southern USA
But the story actually started a few days ago
We left Miami and stopped again in Orlando
From Orlando we came to Tallahassee
And we chose to do all the drive without paying tolls
We don't have the SunPass tag
So we had to choose some alternative routes
And the roads were really good actually
only ended up increasing the driving time
in about 30 to 40 minutes, right?
He says so
For most of the time we drove in the main freeways
Only in the Orlando metro area we needed to find different options, which is not difficult
You just put 'avoid tolls' on Google Maps
It does the job for you
We slept in Tallahassee and today we'll drive all the way to Austin. It's about 12 to 13 hours, depending on traffic
We're back on the Interstate 10 - the I-10 - and this is such a beautiful road to drive, look at all this green!
And we just gained an hour! Back on the Central time zone
This time I wanna see what we missed in northern Florida and Alabama
as when we came here, we drove all this at night
First stop, Pensacola
Pensacola reminds me of a TV show
There was a series called Pensacola - Wings of Gold
Do you guys remember that?
I never really watched but I remember it had to do with the military and in fact,
Pensacola is a very important military base here in the U.S.
In Pensacola they have the Naval Air Station, the first in the United States
To arrive in Pensacola, we chose the Scenic Highway. You go seeing the ocean
Wow, look at this view!
Because of the strong military presence here in Pensacola, drones are extremely forbidden everywhere
Rumor has it that they even have technology blocking drones from flying. In certain areas, at least
The beaches are located that way on islands here
It's easy to arrive, there are roads connecting, but for us it would add an extra hour, if not more, to the drive
To go and return... So we'll end up skipping this time
But I hear that they're beautiful! White sand beaches and the ocean with Caribbean like colors
We're excited about returning here
One day we''ll be back
So for now, let's enjoy a tour of downtown
Wow, Pensacola was founded in 1559
[Gordon ]So, it looks like yeah, we can get to the beach, this isn't... uh... It doesn't look like there's any...
[Renata] Toll? [Gordon] Toll, yeah
[Renata] Cool!
[Gordon] So we might as well go, right?
[Renata] Yep!
Might as well check it out, check, check, check, check,...
This is Perdido Key, between Pensacola and Orange Beach
Let's go see the beach
I could certainly spend the day here
The beach is absolutely beautiful, but of public space, only this little part here, at least here where I am
This side belongs to a resort
and this other side belongs to another
They're suffering from an invasion of lionfish
Wow, it looks like it's destroying the ecosystem here
The everyday training in the area
And now we continue along the coast
I bet there are more public beaches along this coast
Wow, they are so white, look at these dunes!
Miles and miles and miles of white sand dunes
So beautiful!
"Sweet Home Alabama!"
We're about to enter the Gulf State Park in the city of Gulf Shores
You can come here to launch your boat or to fish and there's no one here actually to collect the fee
They just trust you're going to pay, look at that. Three dollars for boat
Two dollars for fishing, and there's the box
Gas prices are already way cheaper in Alabama
We stopped here in between Battles Wharf and Fairhope, Alabama
Nice waterfront. You can see the bay and it's a butterfly sanctuary. Look at all these species here
From here we can already see Mobile across the bay, right there
It's the most important city in southern Alabama
First of all and very important: it's "Mo-bile" not "Mobil" not "Mob-ile"
Look at me! A Brazilian talking about English pronunciation
But actually the word is in French. Mobile was the first capital of Louisiana
You heard me right. Louisiana, not Alabama
At that time, Louisiana was huge. It used to occupy one third of the area of today's United States
Mobile had the first Mardi Gras ever in the United States, in 1699
In New Orleans it was just like thirty years later. This I learned at the Mardi Gras Museum in Lake Charles
But listen to this. At that time, as I explained, Mobile used to belong to Louisiana
So Louisiana is proud to have had the first Mardi Gras ever as a state
But when you come to the city level, it was Mobile, Alabama
There are no main cities along the road here in Mississippi, so we're just going straight through the state
Here we are again at Atchafalaya National Reserve
From here on, I already showed in multiple videos
It took us 18 hours to arrive
That's because we stopped a lot in Florida and Alabama and also because we got some traffic in Louisiana
Oh well, here we are! Austin, Texas
And if I can give you one more tip
in addition to things to do along the way, it would be to fill in when you get to Texas
Gas prices are so much cheaper here, up to a dollar less compared to downtown Miami and Miami Beach, really

Search for Source of Kavanaugh Leak Narrows to Inside Congress - Duration: 4:20.
Also pictured left to right are Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID), and
Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).

It's curious how they are not making too much effort to find out who it really was,
especially since it definitely was not one of Ford's friends.

what's in my backpack 🎒 college senior :') - Duration: 14:20.
am I actually this pale?
yeah i guess so
hello my frens
it's nina and i am here with another video
so it's been a whole
7 months since my last what's in my backpack video
i honestly don't know how that much time flew by
it feels like just yesterday that i was
filming my last what's in my backpack video
but now it's a whole new semester
i'm taking four classes
last semester i was taking three
and i feel like i'm carrying a lot less
and i'm definitely using different products
so i just thought it was appropriate for me
to finally update what's in my backpack
so without further ado
i'm just gonna get right into it
here we go
so although it's a new semester, of course
i'm still carrying the same backpack, i just
backpacks are expensive
and they go for a very long time
i just don't feel the need to have to change my backpack
especially this one
it's very sturdy
really does the job
this backpack is a Herschel
backpack, that's all it says, Herschel
apparently a lot of people have said that this
specific color
it's not available
um
i don't know what to do about that
but there are definitely a lot of other colors and
i like the quality of it
i also have a black backpack with polka dots
and that has lasted me since high school
so this is definitely a good product. not sponsored.
but i definitely like this backpack
so i would recommend
and the reason why i like this backpack is because
specifically, now we're getting into the backpack
i carry a giant 15-inch MacBook Pro
and it is a little bit heavy
so I really need a sturdy backpack
now on to the next i have the same folder
i've had this folder since high school
it's a
it's a plastic folder so it's-
plastic doesn't leave this planet
it doesn't disintegrate
it doesn't
it's here forever
so this has literally been here forever
but i only use this to carry, you know papers or
blue books
does this make anyone feel things?
and I also have loose leaf paper
but in college, at least my college
everything is basically online
but sometimes you will need to print a paper or two
and so i just have a folder
i don't know why slapped it on my laptop like that
so the next big thing is my notebook
so for this semester
i only carry one notebook just because
in one of my classes we're not allowed to use technology
which i honestly don't mind
i feel like i'm learning a lot in that class
because I'm not on my laptop
and I'm not distracted
i'm not saying i'm distracted with a laptop
if you think that's the case, no
i'm a good student with a laptop as well
just saying
i'm just saying that because we don't use technology in this class
there's no potential for me to get distracted
because i'm definitely not on twitter during my classes
so for this one class I have this notebook
and this notebook is from muji
as you can see right here
what I like about this notebook is how compact it is
it's so thin
but the thing is even though it's thin
the lines are
oh
we just had a midterm so i had a study guide but
i don't want to look at it anymore
the thing that i like about this notebook is
the lines
as you can see the lines are
narrower than college ruled
colleges run by semesters and quarters anyway
so you're taking a new class every semester or quarter
so you just don't need that many pages per class
i still have a long way to go and it's for one class
so it really just does the job
this is my notebook for korean
i've got plenty of notes
oh cute, wow, so cute
the next thing I have in my backpack is my bullet journal
it is dotted as you can see
you can't see that huh?
i'll put the name of the brand right here
i think i've mentioned this in my last
what's in my backpack video
but in this specific
bullet journal there is this sort of folder pocket thing
FOR MY STICKERS
so i have these stickers for if i ever want to be fancy
and i want to make my layouts a little more special
i just put these stickers on
also another thing is for my phone
i actually
a lot of people think that my phone case
the entire phone case is a case
but these are just stickers and these are the stickers
this was literally a plain phone case
before i put everything on
just a plain clear phone case
so i just put stickers on it to make it a little more special
also here's my lockscreen
very beautiful
i give it a 10 out of 10
a lot of people also commented
where i got this cactus from
and i have another one
it's black i get these from my mom
she just randomly gives it to me periodically
i don't know where my mom gets these
i assume they're from a-
i don't know where they're from actually
it's a korean thing, it's sponsored by soju
i don't drink but um
i guess you can look it up
it's chum churum soju
yea okay
it's just, anyway
you can find something similar online i guess
i am moving on to my pencil case
this is the same pencil case from my last video
i don't need a new one
so inside my pencil case
first i'm gonna talk about these highlighters
most of my products are from
muji as i've mentioned before
these highlighters are from muji
they came together like this
and the beautiful thing about this is that they're
i don't know what just happened
here we go
one
and then
where are you
two
the beautiful thing about these highlighters
is that there's four colors, but it's two pens
It's very handy very minimal
then next i have these pens from muji as well
they are just ball points and they are blue black and red
three colors
and these are 0.38 pens as you can see
can you see it?
my vision's not that great
actually that's a lie
my vision is great with contact lenses
but if they're off my vision is terrible
as you can see
they show the point on the tip of the pen
and then next i have these gel pens from my last video
these are dong-a miffy pens
i only had three colors of muji pens
and that's because i already had these pens
and then i still have this hello kitty ruler it's six inches
it just helps if i want to make
my bullet journal a little special
anything like that
i also have this white-out
it's also from muji
just because i do write 100% in pens
if i ever need to correct a mistake, i have white-out
and then just for exams
i have a pencil and eraser just in case i ever need it
but i don't really need it a lot
and then finally
i have these flags
these post-it little flags
and i use this for writing tiny little notes into my
notebook or if i want to mark a page, here it is
actually
you can also see it right here
the little flags
and then i just write whatever
i need to write on them such as
midterm question number whatever
and then next i have
i don't usually keep these in my backpack
usually they're on my head or around my neck
but if I'm not wearing them
they will go into my backpack
but these are my headphones that you've seen
in a couple of my videos
these headphones I
i live by them
these are bose quietcomfort 35 II headphones
they are noise canceling
they are pricey
but
some things in life you just have to
invest and this headphone is just
the best purchase I've ever made
i use them all the time
i definitely do not recommend wearing these
when you're walking or crossing the streets
if you're wearing these have one ear out
or don't wear them at all
these can definitely be a safety hazard
so just please be careful when you're wearing these
i only really wear these
to get from class to class or to study
but don't be wearing these
when you're traveling from place-
i jUST said
i'd go from class to class with these
don't wear these if you're going to be crossing streets
because you need to be aware of your surroundings
take precaution, okay?
next i have a water bottle
this is my water bottle for this semester
i used to carry a bigger pink water bottle
that i've carried for many years
but it was about time that i gave a new water bottle a try
so i got this water bottle as a gift
it is a ryan water bottle from kakaotalk
for this semester
i definitely just wanted to carry less
and i wanted to have more freedom with my hands
my last water bottle
i always had to carry it or stuff it into my backpack
it was a pain for my back
so i have this smaller water bottle and it's really cute
look at ryan he's swimming
iSN'T THAT PRECIOUS?
it's just if i'm ever feeling down
or i need a pick-me-up in life
i look at my water bottle and I see ryan swimming
and i just think
man
that is adorable
you are adorable ryan
and it really just makes me feel better
finally in the big pocket
i just have a clif bar
i like to have food in my backpack
this is my favorite flavor of clif bars
it's chocolate chip
if i don't have food in my backpack
i will actually pass out
i will carry multiple snacks just because i like food
clif bar
now finally
we are moving on to this small pocket
and in the small pocket
i also don't have too many things as well
just because I don't
want to be carrying so many things
the first thing i want to talk about is my wallet
i found this wallet in my closet
and i've had this wallet since I was a child
still going on strong
it's this nice plastic
vinyl
what is this material
nice and plushy
it's definitely smaller than my last wallet
my last wallet is actually right here
my last wallet was this wallet and you can just definitely
tell the size difference
when i'm in college
i just don't need to be carrying that much stuff
i'll have a debit card my ID my other IDs
my health card
but i just don't need to be carrying so much stuff anymore
so i just moved on to this tiny wallet
it actually started when I went to my concert
and i needed a tiny wallet
because i didn't want to carry so much stuff to
the concert
it was a bts concert. it was great
but i moved on to the small wallet because
i just don't want to carry so much stuff anymore
moving on i have a rollerball perfume
i used to carry body spray
but lately i've been using a rollerball perfume
i got this as a gift as well, but it was a very long time ago
this is a daisy by marc jacobs perfume
it just smells fantastic
and so i have this with me because
it's very important for me to smell good
i like good smells
next i have a hand lotion
i've mentioned this before. i also got bts-
i get a lot of gifts
very thankful
this is just bts lotion
my mom got it when she was in LA
and oh okay
i didn't expect that
but it's a very nice lotion
smells nice and florally
a little
citrusy
and it's really nice because my hands can get very dry
i have very dry and sensitive skin
so i like to have hand lotion
but I feel like everyone should just carry hand lotion
i also have a lip tint
i got these
wow, it's been a year. hmm.
i just realized what i said
yep okay
we're not gonna talk about that
but this is the etude house water tint
smells like cherry, this is called cherryade
just lately i've been using red because it's becoming fall
so i like a more red bold color
i've been carrying a lip tint around
next i have this flash drive just in case i ever need it for
documents and whatever
and i have this cute little
owl that makes sounds because
i can easily lose my flash drive. it's a very small item
and so
if i can hear my owl, then my flash drive is in my backpack
so it makes me feel safer
next i have hand sanitizer
just because people can get sick in college
you want to kind of keep yourself sanitized
and then i also have a mirror. it just slides out like this
very cool
i don't know what happened to my other mirror
i should probably find it
but otherwise i have this mirror. it's nice and flat.
and then finally i just have lip balm
it is this vaseline lip therapy rosy lips lip balm
it smells like roses
and it is slightly tinted in this nice pink color
and it's just nice to have
if i have extra on my finger
i just rub it on my hand because it's vaseline
it also just smells nice
i also have one here if you can see it
also i completely forgot
but i do carry chargers in my backpack
i put my chargers in the small pocket of
my backpack just because they can fit now
because i'm carrying a lot less stuff
but i completely forgot about it because
it's not in my backpack currently
because i was using my computer last night
and so it's usually in my backpack because i need it
but i do have chargers with me
so as you can see this charger fits in
nice and tidy just like that
i also do carry a phone charger
but i don't feel like getting it out
so that is it for this video
i hope you enjoyed it!!
i hope this video was interesting or helpful
and that i answered some questions
i know that a lot of people have been asking about
the products that i use so
hopefully this video was your answer
but yeah, i'm gonna go now

Don't know why
I'm surviving every lonely day
When there's got to be
No chance for me
My life would end
And it just don't matter how I cry
My tears of love
Are a waste of time
If I turn away...
Am I strong enough to see it through?
Go crazy is what I will do
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you Oh oh oh - oh!
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you Oh oh oh...
Can't let go
And it doesn't matter how I try
I gave it all, so easily
To you my love
To dreams that never will come true
Am I strong enough to see it through?
Go crazy is what I will do
If I can't have you
I don't want nobody baby
If I can't have you Oh oh oh - oh

We may not like it, but we can't say that corruption in Argentina – as in most countries
– is new.
The truth is that since the first government meeting, back in 1810, virtually no Argentine
government has been free of suspicion.
Yep... the possibilities are almost endless... and the incentives, very generous.
And don't think it's just a matter of sticking your hand in and you're done, most corruption
cases are much more convoluted.
However, folks, what has been uncovered in recent years goes much further.
We're talking about the realization that in Argentina there has been a systematic process,
led by the nation's own government, with the objective of looting the country's public
treasury on a rather large scale.
And… we're not talking about the occasional bribe… but of billions of dollars that,
given the evidence, seem to have been stolen during the Peronist governments of Néstor
Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
The news comes almost daily, but this video's goal is to tell you how it all started, what
happened, and how this plot worked-- a plot which the very Presidency of the Republic
was involved... as well as dozens of politicians, judges, officials and many of the most important
businessmen in the country.
Folks, this looting operation's plot, known as the "notebooks", began with the arrival
of Néstor Kirchner in May 2003 and continued under the presidency of his wife, Cristina
Fernández de Kirchner until 2015.
That is to say, the systematic pillaging of the public coffers happened for more than
a decade.
Now, before we look into what this consisted of and how much money it meant for the Argentines,
we have to answer some questions about the real protagonists of this story: the Kirchners.
Who are they?
How did they get into power?
How did they manage to set what is perhaps the biggest operation in Argentina's history
of public coffers looting into motion?
Listen up.
(AUDIO: THE KIRCHNER'S ASCENT)
Two provincial politicians who managed to own Argentina for years.
Folks, it all began with a beautiful love story between two young university students.
Néstor and Cristina met in the mid-70s while studying law at the National University of
La Plata in Buenos Aires.
Love soon bloomed and in 1976, after the military coup led by Lieutenant General Jorge Rafael
Videla, our two lovers decided to leave to work as lawyers in the city of Río Gallegos
[GA-YE-GOS], in the province of Santa Cruz.
A city that by the way is far away from the capital, more than 2,650 km away!
If we'd been asked at that time about this couple's political future, we probably wouldn't
have mentioned national politics.
However... after democracy returned in 1983, this nice lawyer couple joined the Peronist
Party... and it was there folks, that the career of those who became Argentina's Underwoods
really began...
Well, now that I think about it...
I think it was the Underwoods who became the Kirchners of the political series.
A relationship made by and for power.
First, in 1987 Néstor Kirchner was elected mayor of Río Gallegos, and a few years later,
in 1991, Governor of the Province of Santa Cruz.
Then finally, in 2003, he became President of the Republic of Argentina.
And during this time, Cristina Fernández didn't stay on the sidelines.
She made her career in the legislative chambers, as provincial deputy, national deputy and
national senator... until in 2007, she arrived at the Presidency of the Republic.
And... then, in 2015, she went back to the Senate.
Yes, it seems that the Kirchners had it very, very clear: between the legal profession and
politics...
Politics.
More than 30 years living off of taxpayers.
Now that's a career...
However... just a moment.
The province of Santa Cruz, which is where the
Kirchners began their political career isn't only far from the capital, which after all
is the center of power, but in 2001 its population didn't reach 200,000 inhabitants... it was
about 0.5% of the country's entire population, which at the time was approximately 36 million
people.
So...
How did two politicians from a place that is so far from the core of power and is so
small take control of the entire country?
This's the question that many journalists and political analysts have been asking for
a long time.
Well... now we're beginning to unravel the answer.
Basically, this husband and wife took over, co-opted and bought almost every sector of
Argentine politics through the power of their wallets:
Businessmen, trade unionists, judges, journalists, artists and civil society leaders succumbed
to the power of the state's wallet.
Billions of dollars distributed among the pockets of those who supported and were unconditional
supporters of this peculiar marriage.
A clientele network fed and greased by concessions, aid and subsidies that were conveniently distributed
and which nobody controlled.
However….
The question that we have to ask ourselves is...
How did they finance it?
How did the Kirchners maintain such an ample clientelistic group?
Listen up.
(THE GOAL OF PUBLIC WORK)
Look at what Cristina Fernández said in 2010:
( "For us, for this Administration, public work isn't a contingency, it's a conviction,
a structural political concept that we've been developing not only since 2003, but since
we gained the responsibility of directing a community's destiny".
Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.)
Well, now we know why public works were so important for this marriage...
And no, I'm sorry, but it has nothing to do with Argentina's interests.
Public work was one of the core parts of the Kirchners' political fabric, first in the
province of Santa Cruz and then throughout the country.
Now... some of you may be wondering, but, Simon, How did the system work?
Well... you'll see… deep down it was quite simple.
President Kirchner, through his Minister of Federal Planning and Public Investment, Julio
[HOO-LEE-O] de Vido [VEE-DO] – who stayed in this post for the entire period in which
the Kirchners headed the country – met periodically with the main construction companies in Argentina,
which in turn were convened by the President of the Chamber of Construction, Carlos Wagner.
Well, in these meetings it was agreed exactly which company would get each public tender...
That is, they met to decide how to distribute the 'cake' .
Then... when everything was decided the tender procedure started... but it was for mere appearances…
the company which was chosen was the one that this kind of "public works cartel" had
previously agreed on.
And now comes the key to the entire process...
Once the work was granted, the companies charged the first installment of the contract, the
advance payment they needed to supposedly begin working… however, this payment was
given entirely to
the politicians.
So wait.. where was the business if these companies had to pay back what they charged?
Well... in the extra costs.
See, it's estimated that on average each project's extra cost ranged between 30 and
40 percent of the total bill.
That way, if work was granted for 100 million, budget expansions were approved for up to
a total of approximately 140 million.
But that's not all.
Sometimes the government would also approve changes and new project expansions… until
the company that had been awarded the 100 million dollar work ended up charging a lot
more...
180, 200, 250, and even 2.8 times the initial budget, so in this example, 280 million...
And to top it all off, many of these projects were not even finished.
You heard that right.
Of course, in exchange for this bargain, companies paid bribes to politicians--depending on the
case, between 10 and 20% of the invoiced amount.
Having said that, have you ever wondered how public work functions in your country?
The case, folks, is that this whole process worked perfectly for years...
But now... it's been exposed.
(DISCOVERED)
Folks, the
little details count...
When one doesn't take care of all the details even the most complex and ingenious operations
run the risk of collapsing.
This case wasn't the exception.
See, it turns out that the driver who transported the government's "bribe collector" was
obsessed with writing down each trip, each stop, each building visited, the name of the
people he was going to see for the briefcase delivery... even the conversations he heard
during his travels.
He'd written down practically everything in 8 notebooks.
We don't know if he did it on impulse, for entertainment, if it was part of a kind of
control and accounting system or he simply wanted to cover his back... but the fact is
that these notebooks contain all the details of this mafia plot.
And finally those notebooks... came into the hands of a journalist who, upon seeing what
they contained, decided to turn them over to justice... and after months of investigation,
at the end of July 2018, high officials and businessmen linked to the plot were arrested.
But that's not all... now many of these people have decided to collaborate with the justice
department in exchange for penitentiary benefits... such as not being in prison while the process
continues.
And one of those individuals is, Carlos Wagner, the President of the Chamber of Construction,
the man who called the companies and one of the people who benefited most from this entire
mess.
His story confirmed everything the notebooks said.
And the other testimonies went in the same line.
But... right now...
I'm sure you may be wondering, OK, OK, Simon, but how much money are we talking about...
Well, folks, a lot-- and I mean a lot--of money.
See, if Carlos Wagner is telling the truth...
The Kirchners would've received almost 3 million dollars... 3 MILLION DOLLARS A DAY
during their 12 and a half years in government!!
That is, more than 12 billion dollars in total, only from public works.
Because, besides that, there are many more suspicions of corruption and pending cases.
12 billion to pay politicians, judges, journalists, social leaders... and, of course, to fill
their pockets.
Everything indicates that this is how the Kirchners came to power and consolidated that
power over Argentina.
For example, there's also José López's case, former public works secretary and someone
who was very close to Julio de Vido, the Kirchnerist minister who managed the plot.
Well, in June 2016, having been alerted that the police could raid his house as part of
an investigation… he decided to leave at 3 in the morning with 9 million dollars he
had in cash... hidden under the mattress.
Anyway, that night López tried to hide the money in a convent-- the convent of the Praying
and Penitent Nuns of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima – but didn't have the best luck.
While he was stashing the money, a neighbor, who thought that it was a robbery, called
the police.
And that's how good old Jose Lopez was caught red-handed.
Now we know where all that money probably came from.
By the way, as you can imagine, this money couldn't simply be transferred to a bank...
No, it had to be paid in cash so it wouldn't leave a trace... so it was moved in bags.
Well, since they made so many payments… the people in charge of filling the bags already
knew how many money wads fit into each bag...
So it seems that the money was no longer counted in millions, but by the number of bags.
By the way, don't forget that companies also made money by overpricing... so the damage
to the Argentine people has been even greater...
Anyway, folks, this is the gruesome story of how some politicians decided to plunder
their own country.
If the facts are confirmed, even the Underwoods would be scandalized by Argentina's situation.
Will Cristina Fernández end up in jail?
Only time will tell.

Why I Wear Hearing aids [CC] - Duration: 6:06.
CHRISSY: Hi everyone! Welcome back to my channel!
Or I guess if you are new just welcome! Welcome to my channel!
I'm Chrissy, this is my sign name.
Today what we are going to discuss is the reasons why I wear hearing aids.
Hearing aid chimes*
Whistles*
CHRISSY: So I don't use hearing aids every day.
Some days I just don't feel like putting them on.
It's doesn't matter, I'll explain that later.
But I want to start with the 3 top reasons why I always prefer,
not really prefer,
just why I enjoy and am content with having hearing aids on.
So there are there are the three top reasons.
The first reason why I wear them is that I am comfortable with hearing aids on.
So, I grew up hard of hearing and because of progressive hearing loss I slowly became deaf.
So, I'm used to have hearing aids on.
I've always had hearing aids since I was 2 years old, so they are comfortable.
I feel like I'm content with the full feeling in my ears.
Honestly sometimes without hearing aids in my ears feel empty.
It's weird.
Really weird.
I don't know how to explain this.
I like the full feeling of hearing aids.
Anyway- So comfort.
I'm honestly comfortable with having hearing aids on.
The second reason why is---
fun!
I will explain more.
See I have the bling on them?!
Yeh, you can see.
They are purple and bedazzled.
So, they are fun, I like to express myself with my hearing aids so they are fun, I enjoy them.
I also have fun bedazzled hearing aids to show other people, so they can see I'm deaf.
And I can voice and speak so if I'm communicating orally,
chatting and lip-reading,
sometimes people forget or think I'm lying about being Deaf so,
hearing aids kind of act like proof.
Like hey see?!
Not lying, I'm really deaf.
That's in the hearing world.
But honestly in the deaf world sometimes people assume I'm hard of hearing
if they see I have hearing aids.
No, I'm Deaf.
It's pretty simple.
So, onto the third reason,
well the first two were the main reasons.
The third reason is not really, not that essential for me.
The third reason is that hearing aids help me pick up some sounds, very faintly for me.
Like emergency sounds if they are close or approaching sometimes I can hear them
or if a car honks and they are very close I can hear it.
It needs to be really loud if I will hear it.
So, growing up hearing aids helped me with understanding speech, when I was younger I could.
I could hear vocal fluctuations and with lip-reading helped me hear.
Now I'm deaf so honestly hearing aids don't really help me anymore.
But there are still some things I can pick up.
But really the top reason I use hearing aids are for comfort and bedazzling.
So those three things are my reasons why I use hearing aids.
Guess if you want please comment down below! Share your personal decision and reasons why you use hearing aids!
I'm curious.
Anyone else have hearing aids for show or comfort?
Something like that.
Let me know, share and comment below!!
Thanks for watching!
Bye!

Facts That Change The Way You Look At Stormtroopers - Duration: 4:27.
They may get a pretty bad rap, but Star Wars' most iconic villains are more than just disposable,
nameless bodies in plastic-looking white armor.
Here are a few facts you might not have known about stormtroopers.
Dark origins
Okay, so they don't exactly goose-step around the Death Star, but Imperial stormtroopers
are indeed heavily inspired by the stormtroopers used by Germany in the first half of the twentieth
century.
During the First World War, the German Empire used small units of soldiers called Sturmabteilung,
or "storm troops," to break through enemy lines using clandestine infiltration tactics.
In the early 1920s, Hitler gave the same name to the paramilitary group which provided him
protection at party meetings, who are today better known as the SA.
Recognizable for their brown shirts and black jackboots, the SA often utilized violence
against enemies of the burgeoning Nazis and were heavily featured in both pro and anti-fascist
propaganda.
The brown shirts had much in common with their bucket-headed offshoots, including their knack
for spreading terror and their unwavering allegiance to their evil leader.
The fact they share a name isn't a coincidence, you know.
Lightsabers
Back in 1975, when George Lucas and his team were first laying the foundations for the
Star Wars universe, lightsabers weren't a weapon limited to the Jedi Knights.
Ralph McQuarrie's early concept art featured stormtroopers wielding lightsabers along with
their own handheld shields.
Lucas originally envisioned the iconic weapons being as being as commonplace in the galaxy
as blasters, but quickly decided to limit their usage to the Jedi to add to their mystique.
Seems like Han was right after all.
"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side,
kid."
Famous faces
By now, everyone knows that Bond star Daniel Craig had a brief cameo as an easily-mind-tricked
First Order stormtrooper in The Force Awakens, but he wasn't alone.
Rogue One composer Michael Giacchino, Radiohead's Nigel Godrich and Clerks director Kevin Smith
all donned the iconic mask for appearances throughout the film.
Even Mark Hamill donned stormtrooper duds and surprised fans along Hollywood Boulevard
as a prank for charity in 2015.
Princes William and Harry made Imperial cameos in The Last Jedi too, though their scene was
cut because they were too tall.
Becoming the mask
Though the Republic genetically engineered their soldiers on Kamino, rather than using
human recruits like the Empire and First Order, clone troopers actually had more freedom to
express their own individuality.
Each clone trooper was given a designation number, but they quickly established distinct
personalities, gave each other nicknames, and even used facial tattoos and markings
as a way to identify each other.
Clone troopers established a real sense of camaraderie and often referred to one another
as "brother."
But that didn't last.
All stormtroopers in the Empire and First Order were thought of as faceless and nameless,
and were only allowed to refer to one another by numerical classification whilst on the
job.
The rules
It's probably not much of a shock to find that the leaders of the Empire were pretty
big control freaks, and that was no different when it came to the stormtroopers.
All their conversations were not only recorded via their helmet comlinks, but downloaded
and reviewed in an effort to cut down on non-essential talking on duty and curtail any potentially
rebellious behavior.
So no discussing your favorite cantina bands or whining about how much your boss sucks.
Uniforms, including helmets, were to be worn at all times in order to maintain a sense
of discipline and represent the Empire in a positive light.
And don't even think about turning on the A/C. Imperial stormtroopers were forbidden
from using the internal cooling systems in their armor in non-critical situations because
of how much power they'd drain so good luck if you were stationed on Tatooine.
Survival of the fittest
First Order and Imperial stormtroopers all receive extensive training beyond basic combat,
including survival skills in extreme climates.
Their 18-piece armor, worn over a sealed black body glove, features temperature control and
enhanced vision capabilities, so they can easily adapt to any condition.
The black body glove is insulated so stormtroopers can work relatively comfortably, no matter
the weather and even in vacuum conditions.
Stormtroopers also have an air purification system to filter out toxins and create breathable
air in harmful environments.
Their training, coupled with their environmental controls, allowed for the creation of specialized
units like snowtroopers, sandtroopers and scout troopers, who are able to serve in harsher
climates.
Trust the Empire to get the job done.

Papa John's® | Honey Chipotle Chicken Poppers | Food Review! 🍕🍗💥 - Duration: 4:28.
welcome to peep this out reviews with Ian K stay frosty
alright we're back over at Papa John's for today's review because I
figured it's about time I finally gave their chicken poppers a shot and judging
how awesome these look baked right out of the oven and drizzled with some honey
chipotle sauce I'm beginning to wonder why I waited so long
yeah these sure do look pretty awesome what we've got here is a ten piece order
of antibiotic free white meat chicken that's lightly breaded up and baked in
their ovens and then drizzled with some really tasty looking honey chipotle
sauce guys and I got to say these nuggets look absolutely thick definitely
diggin the presentation of these they're nice and brown perfectly cooked with a
very solid amount of that honey Chipotle drizzle on there definitely digging this
one and just for good measure in case the sauce doesn't look flavorful enough
we've got a side of ranch for dipping action here so very excited to see what
that's gonna do flavor-wise to everything else this one that's got
going for it here but it sure looks pretty great let's see if it delivers
it's the honey chipotle chicken poppers here at Papa John's let's peep out this
flavor well there's some nice sweetness in the air thanks to all the drizzle
goodness on these meaty little suckers let's dive in it's the honey chipotle
chicken poppers here at Papa John's hmm you know you can already tell right
after the first bite this meat is not processed it tastes very natural very
juicy and a little bit of the sizzle I'm getting in the background from that
honey Chipotle's coming through with more sweetness than sizzle and I'm
liking that balance but overall guys nice light breading around the meat
itself and the flavor is really tasty let's keep going mmm man check out all
the chunky goodness on the inside of this one guys it's not quite a chicken
nugget not quite a chicken tender it's smack dab right in the middle and I got
to say the quality of the meat is very nice as you can see and like I mentioned
earlier nice and chunky it's got that light breaded outer coating and a very
decent amount of that honey chipotle sauce right there on the top delivering
all the flavorful goodies on top of what you're getting with the meat very solid
you know it's really kind of hard to mess up chicken nuggets or chicken
strips for that matter unless the chicken itself is overly processed and
it kind of tastes more or less fake nowhere is that a thought with these
poppers the chicken itself is raised without antibiotics and the quality
comes through with every single bite that I'm taking of this so far but I got
to say one of the highlights on top of the sauce naturally is the breading
itself is not overpowering any of the other flavors it's a lightly
breaded coating and the fact that it's baked goes a long way these are not greasy
they're not dry either and overall bomb guys totally you already know we're
going in on this ranch right now let's see what one of my favorite all-time
dipping sauces does to this chicken looks great already I'm expecting
something cool and sweet here we go mmm cool sweet a little bit of heat and the
flavor of that chicken is awesome ranch has easily my go-to like I said wow that
is a really nice combo mmm so there you have it guys some awesome chicken
goodness from Papa John's with a really tasty sauce selection this time out from
my version of it I got to say very delicious on this one and I would easily
recommend this with ranch easily as for the overall rating though I'm gonna have
to give the honey chipotle chicken poppers here at Papa John's an awesome
9.2 out of 10 while the flavor itself is not my go-to I
definitely love what it brought to the table guys and the fact that it's on
lightly breaded antibiotic-free chicken is only the bonus it was really made
pretty well it was juicy and I would easily recommend it to you there very
solid job on this one but as always this is all based upon my first time trying
these right now for the first time on camera in front of all of you so drop
some comments down below let me know what you thought of this one are you
guys a fan of this type of chicken here at Papa John's and if you've had these
already or even if you haven't how excited are you to try it with honey
chipotle sauce drop those comments down below and definitely let me know and

Minecraft: 1.14 Demonstration! - Duration: 3:41.
Hello! It is I, Dragon Souped, also known as Saltasaur in-game.
In today's video, I'll be showing off upcoming changes to Minecraft in 1.14. Plus, you'll get to see what they may look like in-game!
Firstly, Pandas will be added alongside the new bamboo forest biome. Each of these unbearably cute mobs will have a different personality.
Some Pandas will be lazy and roll on the ground. Others may be aggressive with red eyes, which you don't want to mess with. Babies may sneeze and startle their parents.
But that's not all! The bamboo found in this biome can craft scaffolding blocks, which can be climbed on and will break if not supported.
Scaffolding can be used to climb to high points of a build without needing a messy dirt tower.
Cats will now become their own seperate mobs from Ocelots. As of this result, they'll have 9 new textures, one chosen by the community.
Stray Cats will be able to be found around villages, and tamed ones will bring "gifts" to their owners. Phantoms will also be scared off by them, too.
However, it is unknown what will happen to existing tamed Ocelots. Will they change mob type? Will they lose their cat state? Only time will tell.
Villagers and their villages are receiving an overhaul. The 5 types of villager will now be split into 12 and each will have different behaviors and looks.
Villages and Villagers will have updated looks depending on their biome, but two new enemies will be involved in the destruction of some of them. Meet the Pillagers and the Beasts.
Pillagers are a new kind of Illager that travel in groups alongside Beasts. They wield the new crossbow weapons and attack villages they come across.
Beasts are large, bull-like creatures that destroy crops and charge at Villagers to kill them. Unfortunately, I can't really show one here.
As for the crossbow itself, it's a stronger but slower version of the bow. It will have triple shot and quick fire enchantments. Plus, it can launch fireworks.
The taiga biome will also recieve updates. You'll be able to find berry bushes and eat off them, while relaxing next to a cozy campfire.
Foxes will be found roaming the taiga biome, too. However, much is undecided about them. No details have been released quite yet...
More features may be yet to come, and there is much speculation going around. Perhaps more will be revealed in development versions of 1.14.
Well, that's all I have for today. What do you think of all the upcoming features? What does the Fox say? Leave a comment below!
Thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this video, be sure to leave a like and subscribe. Make sure to check out my other videos, too! This is Dragon Souped signing out.

ANTKEEPING | Hibernation - Duration: 9:11.
There are many
requests for a video about ants' hibernation and
how it should be done in captivity,
at the point that I decided to anticipate the publication of this video.
I would start from the beginning and why
ants like many other organisms, perform this metabolic process
to survive during the winter months.
So-called warm-blooded animals belong to
the category of homeothermic organisms, like humans,
that are biologically evolved to maintain an optimal and stable temperature
inside the body, unconditionally from the external climate.
If it's too cold our body shakes,
if it's too hot we will start to sweat to lower the temperature.
This process is called endotherm.
The endothermic mechanism allows some
of the homeothermic organisms to maintain the body at a constant temperature.
The opposite of homeothermy is the poikilotherm,
belong to this category all animals
called "cold-blooded"
whose body temperature varies greatly according to environmental conditions.
Not having an internal temperature regulation mechanism
they follow the fluctuations of the outside temperature
and use the environment to manage it.
They stay in the sunlight to increase it
or in water to lower it, this type of thermoregulation
is called ectothermy.
This behavior is particularly developed in reptiles,
but also in amphibians, in many fish and invertebrates,
among which also ants
All living organisms can be part of one
or more of these categories: for example cats and dogs are
homeothermic and endothermic, but they can also use
the ectothermy when they rest in the sun.
Bees are poikilothermic and ectothermic
but can use wing muscles to generate heat, which also makes them endothermic.
As far as we are concerned, ants belong to the
poikilothermic and ectothermic categories.
Temperature plays an important role in all living things
some biological processes, activation of enzymes
or metabolisms are optimized to act at specific temperatures.
Endothermics as mentioned above,
maintain constant the internal body temperature
and as a result our metabolism remains constant,
our digestion and respiration remain constant,
muscles, movements, nervous activity, circulatory system
remain relatively constant whether
the external temperatures are hot or cold.
Ectothermics such as ants
have a temperature that matches with the environment
and binds their biological processes
When the ambient temperature is high
even the internal temperature of the ants is high
and this leads to an acceleration of all their processes
they digest the food and convert it into energy more quickly
which means that they move faster,
they are more hungry, their Nervous processes and
cell reproduction are faster,
queens produce more eggs and larvae grow faster,
in short,
everything is faster when temperatures are warm.
When the ambient temperature lowers
their bodies become cold
and in these conditions
ants simply slow down.
Feeding, movements, metabolism,
growth all undergoes a strong slowdown,
and that's what happens when we put our colonies in hibernation
Biologically speaking,
poikilothermy and ectothermy are valid survival strategy
during the winter as food demand drops considerably
when a homeothermic organism, like human
on the other side needs more food to keep its internal temperature warm.
Poikilothermics and ectothermics in cold temperatures
don't need food because everything is slower.
During winter hibernation ants don't need food
because they're virtually shut down to a state of stasis,
this means that even the maintenance by
the antkeeper will be less.
Beyond to be poikilothermic and Ectothermic
ants also fall into the category of
bradymetabolic organisms.
Bradymetabolism refers to a lethargic state so slow
that it is almost close to death,
that in response to extreme winter conditions
or lack of food.
When temperatures are lower, you will notice the ants' appetite and
in general all the activities will drop considerably,
they will try to close the entrance of their nest with debris.
Some of them will make stocks to survive
during the months when they don't have the possibility to forage.
Ok, let's move on to the practical part,
at what temperature it is performed and how
antkeepers induces his colonies to hibernation.
Essentially you have to provide to your colony a very cold place.
Do not place the formicariums outside without any protection
because temperatures of some degrees below 0°C
could kill the ants,
in nature they have the possibility to dig deeper
to reach the ideal temperature.
If you do not have other possibilities,
you could build a polystyrene box where you can place the formicarium inside.
If you have the possibility to use a refrigerator all be better,
but make sure to set the minimum settings and check
that the temperature is right, this is probably the best method
because it allows you to have a fixed temperature.
The most plausible option is
to put your colonies in a cold room without heating
such as a basement, a garage, or anyway
where the temperatures are low enough for
them to hibernate
Don' t worry about freezing your ants to death,
in their hemolymph there is glycerin
which acts as antifreeze and prevents it from freezing at temperatures close to 0°C
temperatures close to 0°C
A temperature between 5 to 10 °C
is sufficient for most of the species.
Ants don't require food during the hibernation phase,
but still need moisture and water.
If the colony is still in the test tube,
you don't need to worry about because they're already inside.
If your colony is already in a formicarium,
you need to manage these factors properly.
Although in winter it will be easier to keep humidity because of the temperatures
don't forget for any reason to hydrate the nest
with a certain regularity.
Some species of ants native to the warmer regions
such as the south and the islands of Italy with the classic Mediterranean climate,
can do without the hibernation
process if they are kept warm during the winter.
Usually these species enter in a slowing down stage
already around 15-20 ° C
Their evolutionary instinct is to hibernate during the 2-3 cold months
when in nature temperatures are low and food is scarce.
If you dealing with these species
then you will need to provide food from time to time as
the colony is not in a complete hibernation stage.
Pay attention to sudden changes in temperature
because they can be dangerous for the colony.
You should ensure a gradual decline by reaching the hibernation
temperature within a few days.
For example, you should not move the colony from a temperature of 28 ° C
directly in the refrigerator to 5 ° C. The same also applies to the
awakening from hibernation.
If inside the colony there are still many pupae
waiting to open, you should wait until they are born...
... at least most of them.
Unlike larvae and adult ants, pupae can not enter in stasis
and in this stage they will not exceed winter.
My personal advice is
to perform always the annual hibernation if
the species performs it in nature.
The process of hibernation is a very important stage
in the life of an ants colony, it allows a prolonged
rest to the workers but mainly allows the queen
a pause from the deposition of eggs and will prolong their life.
Furthermore, after a correct hibernation phase,
phase, the deposition rate will be faster and more tight
than a restless cycle.
If you dealing with an exotic species,
you need to know very well about their habits.
In particular the species that come from tropical climates
do not hibernate and you will have to make sure
to keep a warm temperature even during the winter.
Probably you will need to use mats
or heating cables.
I hope this tutorial can be handy
to understand the role of hibernation in the life cycle of ants
and as usual if you liked the video
