20 Art Hacks Using Food--How to create texture with food items-- Mixed Media Ideas - Duration: 14:00.

Hi everyone its Keren here with 20 art hacks on how to use food in your work enjoy!!!

the first hack I want to talk about is tea and tea is really easy to use in your

artwork because you can use it, as we used to do in elementary school and

stain things with it I took some old tea bags and steep them

and made a really strong and thick concoction of the tea so it will really

give good stains and you can do so many different things from using the inside

of the tea leaves to actually using the teabags themselves. So besides using the

tea for staining paper you can also take out the inside of the tea and mix it

with any type of medium like soft matte gel like I'm doing here or some

paste and then you can apply it to the background it will create a really nice

texture and it will also have a tea stain to it once it dries clear it will

only be a light tea stain on it and it will have a little bit of texture from

the leaves, because it has the gel it doesn't get ruined and you can really

preserve what's in there you can also use the tea with a paintbrush to just

paint a piece of paper and stain it that way so that's a really good use of it as

well. lastly you can take the tea and use and

make it into an old book paper by just staining it and even wrinkling it and

you will really be able to create a really nice old paper look.

so here are the different pieces that I did I used a paper and stained them

and I use an old book paper and also you can see what I did with the gel here

you can see how Louise Nelson used tea bags to create different type of artwork

she made her own Bowl out of tea bags or created art on it, stapled it, stamped it

and made really beautiful things with it she even painted it

with really cute characters on it so there's just really so many ideas you can do. you can

use with gesso and here she is cutting it out and there's a whole technique on

how she's making tags using it and adding mediums and stamping on it

and you can visit her blog to check this out

the next art hack is coffee and I didn't want to use actual coffee from a tin

because I don't want to waste it but the residue of coffee would be great so

this is a pod from my machine I'm just emptying out the pod or you could go to

your local coffee shop and ask them for some expresso ground coffee and use the

leftover it's a great way of recycling and using it and you can mix it with so

many things so of course you can use it like I did before with the gel but in

this case I'm mixing it with the paste I really want to show that these products

can be mixed with anything and the nice thing about them is when you're mixing

it with these mediums they preserve better because they're preserved

inside that paste. So here I took one of The Crafters workshop

stencils and I just basically put it on top and it created this

beautiful brown texture with the paste. the next hack is seeds and I use old

seeds that I had, like cumin seeds and basil seeds and I mix them, one

with clear gesso and one with white gesso and just to show you the texture

and this is old stuff that you have in your cupboard that you forgot about

over the years you can just take them instead of throwing them out you could

use them in your artwork. so here is one of them and this is with the clear gesso

and then I'm going mix the black ones with the white gesso because I really

want that black color tostick through the white and it will look

really cool and you can mix this with gel or with paste or with

anything you want and you create your own kind of paste and they preserve

inside because the mediums really hold everything together.

of course once the texture is dry you can color these or cover them and create

your own art with it

another way to make texture is to use eggshells and I took eggshells and

basically crack them using a little hammer inside a ziplock bag, one mistake

that I did make and just make sure you take the membrane off inside the egg and I

didn't do that and that was a big mistake and later on every time I took a piece

I had to remove the membrane itself. so first remove the membrane and then crack

it that's the tip that I give you. then I took some soft matte gel I pressed it

onto my little piece of cardstock it's actually watercolor, paper and then I

started taking the eggshell and creating a mosaic on top and this is a

really good way of doing texture, it's not my idea as I've seen it done online and

I really thought it would be a great way to use food waste so you can recycle.

this is all like a recyclable kind of video where you can use food to create

texture of course there are ideas of food that are not recyclable but I don't

like using those type of foood because I really feel bad because there's so

many people starving in the world so unless it's something that is old and

recyclable I try not to, but I am gonna give you the ideas because I've seen

things online where people use different type of food to create beautiful texture

for art so I mean because art is food to the soul so basically I guess it's it's

kind of like you can use it for both ways but I do like using leftover things

and this was perfect. So as you can see I'm removing the membrane out of it

which I should have done originally and I'm just doing this really nice collage

once I finished gluing all the eggshell pieces and creating a mosaic in

the background I took some of the gel and sealed all the pieces into the gel

to make sure that they don't rot. that way a gel is a great way of keeping

something from going bad so I just took a lot of gel and sealed it and then let

it sit and dry overnight to make sure that everything has to be a fully dry to

add another layer

just to show you an idea of what you can do, you can grab a bit of black gesso and

cover the eggshells once they're dry with the black gesso and just give it a

good coat you don't have to go very thorough, you can give it two coats if

you want to, but a black gesso covers it really well and once that's dry I

applied metallic wax from prima Finnabair but you can also add metallic

paint or anything like that to just bring out the highlight. you can add any

type of paint and use a dry brush technique or you can use wax like

I'm doing right now and it brings out a beautiful texture from the eggshells to

the surface and you can use this to do an ATC or even for a card or anything

you want. it's a great way of doing a mosaic style texture. Continuing along with

shells I thought to use nut or seed shells this actually is a container and

I bought it in the store but it uses walnut shells and then my friend Deedee

also thought to use peanut shells so that would look really cool and here

I am using some seeds, these are sunflower seeds and I ate the inside and

I just used the shells to create texture the same as in the other one. You

could do the same technique. I'm just gluing them with the gel and then of

course you can color it in with black gesso, white gesso or whatever you want

and create this really cool texture

so if you love nuts then you could use peanut shells or walnut, pistachio, I

mean you can crush them you can make like a paste out of it as long as you

mix them with gel you're fine in and it will keep perfectly if you mix them and

crush them with some gels and paste you can create a really amazing texture

paste that would look so good. Now they're dry and I am just adding some

white gesso this time, you could still add the black gesso like I did before

with the eggshells but I just wanted to try a different technique so I'm adding

the white gesso and I did add quite a few layers maybe two or three layers

just to make sure that it covers it, you don't have to do that and now I'm adding

water-colors as I want to show you how amazing this texture is gonna look so I

just took my watercolor confections from Prima and just added paint with a paintbrush

first I sprayed the background with a little bit of

water to just help the water color spread. Just look at the amazing texture that

it created so it's really amazing like I mean these are just sunflower seeds but

imagine what you can do with any other type of seed shells or nut shells.

the other idea is cinnamon sticks some people use them for their coffee or you

get them with a dessert and you can just keep those, they look like twigs and

they're perfect for including in your mixed media as well. The next idea is

with salt and I've used it a lot in my projects. I took watercolor paper and

some watercolors and just added it to the background. I'm just wetting the paper

really well with the colors so we could create a really nice effect with

the salt then I took some kosher salt which it's a really coarse salt and you can

also use Epsom salts for it but what I had was this really coarse salt and

all you do is you sprinkle a little bit of the salt on the background to make it

absorb everything. So you sprinkle a little bit and then just

let it dry naturally, you could heat set it and that would work as well but I

just let it dry and once it was dry I just used an old credit card

and just pushed it off and look at the amazing texture that it creates with the

watercolors. if you don't want to use your salt from the kitchen then you can

use Epsom salts or any other type of coarse salt to do this technique. Here

are a couple of projects that I created with this technique and I also have a

project by my friend Milagros Rivera who also used this technique for her project

with this lady. Another way of doing this technique is using rice and it's exactly

the same way just add the water color and then sprinkle rice. I don't really

like using rice because its food that we can eat but I just took a little

bit of it just to show you that as an example that you can also create this.

because it's a rice it also absorbs the actual water color as well, I mean the

water, it retains the water which really helps with this technique but as

I said I don't really like using rice because it's something that we can

actually eat. Another idea with the rice is I've seen it done where people write

your name on the rice and then make it into a necklace

it makes a really nice piece of jewelry

and Here I am removing it and it created a similar texture to the salt. The next

art hack is using vegetables but not specifically vegetables. like the

idea with potato stamping that we used to do in kindergarten or like the idea

that Birgit Koopsen did here which she Gelli printed with the ends of

vegetables and look at the beautiful prints that she created just using the

end of a celery or you know with anything that is a little bit softer that you're

not going to use anymore you can take and create these really cool designs

using vegetables she has a video on how she created this and you can watch it in the

link below. Along the same lines you have Carolyn Dube

who also created Gel printing using seed pods so that's another great

idea and her video is below as well. The next idea is using a shank bone and

Louise Nelson is just an amazing artist and she created these two pieces

using a piece of bone and how cool is that? I would have never thought of that

The next two examples are skittles and pomegranate juice or pomegranate and

I've seen many videos online regarding this but I don't have any examples

specifically. I also have coconut husks where DeeDee Catron designed two beautiful

projects with them and you can see that thehusks have an amazing texture they give

to the project. she also used lemon to age something and stain it and she used

a lemon grind and grind some of it and actually buried this and she's going to open

it in January and see how it eroded everything. so lemon is a great thing to

help erode things and make things look very old. Another art hack is making

your own paste on modeling paste or texture piece Gabrielle Pollacco who is

one of my friend created her own texture paste using baking soda and here is the

recipe and she also used cornstarch to created a very smooth paste which is

amazing as well you can create it at home and here is the recipe for that one

as well so you don't have to buy expensive things you can use things from

the house to create these the links to both this recipes

other ideas as using candy or pasta have you ever seen macaroni necklaces that

kids make or beans? I have seen really nice work made with beans or spices but I

really don't like using these unless I have to because they are real food and

there's so many people starving in the world that I really don't want to use

Its not the best thing on the planet but its not that bad either

I mean we tried to come up with a name in the office

and well, we only came up with

Let's not get caught up in the name too much

and put our focus back on the car shall we?

The Levorg exterior styling is consistent

with Subaru's model line-up

Its got the swept back hawk eye headlamps

hexagonal grille

and a tail light configuration

We've also heard that Subaru has benchmarked Audi on their

S3 and S4 which is apparent

because if you take look at the silver side mirror

against the red paint, kinda reminds you of those Audi's

where it's really quite and wants to whisper

I wanna go fast

The interior is a mix of emotions

While these plastics over here aren't the greatest to the touch

there's still a lot to fall in love with inside the cabin such as

The sporty leather seats, the flat bottom steering wheel

tactile knobs, the accents on the dash, sunroof to boot

Oh, and my personal favorite

the blue stitching that can found all around the cabin

It really adds to this very Subaru sporty feel

As for the back

More than enough room for 3 Filipino adults

Here in the back, in place of air vents

there are 2 USB ports

which brings the grand total to 6 USB ports in total

which we figured should be enough

to jumpstart a nuclear submarine and aim it at…

The rear boasts a capacity of 522 liters with the seats up

or 8 48-Inch LED TV's stacked one on top of the other

The air conditioning works quite well to cool off the front cabin

no problem there, plus the controls are fairly easy to operate

However as I did mention before, there are no vents in the rear

it'll most likely be that your fan speed will increase exponentially

There is a noticeable boost in engine performance

once you pass 2000 RPM and the CVT it just keeps going

However there are situations where, well it is a bit underpowered

such as during steep inclines or when the car is in full capacity

and the CVT too can be a bit daunting in heavy traffic

See, sometimes there is a lack of forward movement

or there is an excess of that kinda makes you jump on the brakes

more often than you normally would

As for handling, the steering is neither too heavy nor to light

its just right gives you the confidence you need

to take a corner on high speed or take those tight city turns

and as a bonus, the symmetrical all-wheel drive

gives you better traction in the wet

which you got to admit in the Philippines is a big plus

The Subaru Levorg comes in at 1,748,000 Philippine Pesos

The Mazda 6, more expensive by a Hundred thousand Pesos

which is probably the same numbers of crickets above me right now

Not much difference in price with all things considered but

you could argue that each car is aimed at a different market

for example the Mazda 6 is more plush, more lush, more refined

The Levorg, sportier, younger, edgier even

I mean sport seats, metal pedals

Don't get me wrong, it still has enough space for all the cargo

of your family. But, I see it more as a good car to take on a

long road trip with friends with enough space to carry

anything you need to throw a kickass party

Tensions between US and North Korea have risen manifold with the latest test of 100-kilo

ton nuke by North Korea.

As threat of war looms, we focus on North Korean underwater flotilla, which has been

dubbed in many media reports as being a very potent threat to US military.

The North Korean navy is in possession of a fleet of about 70 submarines, comprised

of approximately 20 Romeo class submarines (1,800 tons), 40 Sang-O class submarines (300

tons) and 10 Yono class submarines (130 tons).

In this video, Defense Updates analyzes WHY A SINGLE VIRGINIA CLASS WILL BE ABLE TO CRIPPLE

THE NORTH KOREAN SUBMARINE FLEET OF 70 SUBMARINES?

The Virginia class, also known as the SSN-774 class, is a class of nuclear-powered fast

attack submarines in service with the United States Navy.

Virginia-class submarines are designed for a broad spectrum of open-ocean and littoral

missions.

Virginia class can be used to take out surface combatants, submarines as well as can be used

for land attack missions.

Virginia class is designed to replace older Los Angeles-class submarines, many of which

have already been decommissioned.

US plans to build about 48 of these of which 13 are already build and are currently in

active service.

Over the years, the Virginia-class has proven to be an adaptable and versatile design with

plenty of room for growth.

Virginia-class submarines will be acquired through 2043, and are expected to remain in

service past 2060.

Based on recent updates to the designs, some of the Virginia-class submarines are expected

to still be in service in 2070

Virginia class has a length of 115 m.

To give viewers a perspective, its length is slightly greater than that of football

field.

It displaces around 7,900 tons.

The largest North Korean submarine, the Romeo class submarines at 1,800 tons is 4 times

as smaller as the Virginia class.

Virginia class is acknowledged to be able to move to depths of 240m (800 feet) but allegedly

capable of going down to 490 m (1,600 feet).

Virginia-class submarines were the first US Navy warships designed with the help of computer-aided

design (CAD) and visualization technology.

The advance design techniques and continuous updates has meant that these vessels are one

of the most silent once and are very hard to detect.

A single S9G reactor that produces around 30 MW powers Virginia class

The reactor features improved corrosion resistance and reduced life-cycle costs.

It also has reduced size and weight and providing greater enabling the submarine to pack more

weapons and sensors.

Virginia class can move at over 25 knots that is 46 km/hrs or 29 mph though the actual numbers

may be significantly higher.

S9G reactor is designed to operate for 33 years without refueling.

So Virginia class has practically unlimited range.

Endurance is only limited by food and maintenance requirements.

North Korean submarines use diesel-electric propulsion and were designed in the 50's or

60's.

They don't even have Air Independent Propulsion (AIP), to augment their underwater endurance

and hence have to surface frequently, making them easy targets.

The Virginia class is the first to utilize photonic sensors instead of a traditional

periscope: the class is equipped with high-resolution cameras, along with light-intensification

and infrared sensors, an infrared laser rangefinder, and an integrated Electronic Support Measures array.

Virginia-class submarines feature several types of sonar arrays.

1. BQQ-10 bow-mounted spherical active/passive sonar array.

This is main sonar and is considered to be one of the most powerful sonar mounted in

any of the submarines in the world.

2. Two high frequency active sonars mounted in the sail and bow.

These supplement the main sonar array improving anti-submarine warfare performance.

3. A wide aperture lightweight fiber optic sonar array, consisting of three flat panels mounted

low along either side of the hull.

4. High frequency sonar, mounted on both sides of the submarine's sail provides coverage

above and behind the submarine.

So the vessels of this class have very good situational awareness & it is covered from all sides.

Virginia-class submarines are also equipped with a low frequency towed sonar array and

a high frequency towed sonar array.

Another interesting thing is that sonar arrays aboard Virginia-class submarines have an "Open

System Architecture" which enables rapid insertion of new hardware and software as they become available.

Hardware upgrades are usually carried out every 4 years, while software updates are

carried out every 2 years.

This makes the class so good, as the submarines are able to absorb new technologies keeping them updated.

The Virginia class has a very impressive array of weapons to knock out different kind of adversaries.

1. 12 individual Vertical Launch System (VLS) tubes or 3 Virginia Payload Tubes (VPT), each

capable of launching 6 Tomahawk cruise missiles depending on the version of the submarine.

Tomahawk is a long-range, all-weather, cruise missile that is used for land-based attacks.

It has a long range of 1200 to 2500 km, enabling them to be launched from far off.

These will be especially effective against North Korea as the submarines of North have

low reliability and high maintenance making them stay in docked condition for long spans of time.

A surprise attack with 6 to 8 Tomahawks can basically incapacitate major part of the fleet.

2. Four 533 mm torpedo tubes for Mk-48 torpedo.

There is capacity to carry up to 26 of Mk-48 torpedo in the weapons chamber.

These torpedoes have arrange in excess of 50 km or 31 miles and can used to take out

North Korean submarines that are in active patrol.

3. Virginia class can also lay different types of mines including the MK-60 CAPTOR Encapsulated

Torpedo mines.

North Korean subs can operate mainly within the 50 km exclusion zone of North Korea due

to low range of their diesel engines; in this situation mines placement in this zone will

be very effective.

4. An integral lock-out / lock-in chamber is incorporated into the hull for special operations.

The chamber can host a mini-submarine, such as Northrop Grumman's Advanced SEALS Delivery

System, to transport special warfare forces such as navy SEAL teams.

This can be used to deploy SEALS to sabotage docked submarines as well as supporting vessels.

leaving for Diskit Monastery which is 7 km from here

and then we will head back to Leh

So this is a petrol pump

in Diskit District of Nubra Valley

my bike fuel tank is full.

That is the Diskit Monastery where we are going now if you can see that.

Here we need to purchase entry ticket for Diskit Monastery

and we need to go this side for Leh

Khardungla : World Highest Motorable road

This place is not very cold as i expected it to be.

Now

this road is bad till 15 km more.

You will ride your bike on stone for that distance.

So from North Polu to South Polu,

the total distance is 30 km

and Khardung la is the mid point of these two places

and the road condition between these places is very bad.

so basically, 30 km no road condition with adventure.

Stone is thrown from the road to the side by machines.

i think this way they are making the temporary road for now.

So this is Leh market.

Most Christian believers are living under an illusion, a false security of

salvation. They believe they are saved but they are not, they are on their way to

hell. We will only be saved if we come to Jesus, obey Him, and follow Him, stay with

Him until the very end of our lives. Many have repeated a sinner's prayer after

somebody else and then they were told:"Now you are saved and if you die you

will go to heaven." That is a lie. Jesus Christ saves those who believe in

Him, who obey Him, and who stay with Him until the very end. If we do not obey

Jesus and we do not stay with Him, we will not have eternal life, because Jesus

Christ is the way. There is no other way. Just believing in Jesus cannot save us.

Saying a sinner's prayer after somebody else cannot save us. Church, religion and

Bible study cannot save us. Jesus Christ is the way, He is Lord and if we do not

obey Him, and stay with Him we will perish. The

only way to come to Jesus is to first repent, turn away from your sin, stop

sinning, then call on Jesus. Invite Him into your life, commit to follow and obey

Him and then obey Him. Be baptized for the washing off of your sin and seek

Jesus, keep on seeking Him with all your heart and He will reveal Himself to you.

He will give His Spirit in you to teaching guide you. Jesus Christ Himself

will come and dwell with you, His Spirit with our spirit. But we have to stay with

Him to have life. Jesus will never leave us,

He will never forsake us, but if we do not stay with Him, we will perish. If we

deny Jesus, He will deny us. Nobody is saved yet. Those who follow Jesus and who

obey Him and who go with Him who stay with Him are BEING SAVED and they will

only finally be saved if they stay with Jesus until the very end.

Salvation is about our relationship with Jesus, our obedience to Him. If we do

not follow and obey Him then we are not of Him. Just to say a sinner's prayer

cannot save you. Just to believe in Jesus cannot save you. Jesus Saves but then you

have to stay with Him. You have to follow Him. Jesus said:"Follow Me." He said:"My

sheep hear My voice, they listen and they follow Me."

He didn't say:"They read the Bible and I speak to them through the Bible." No, He

said:"My sheep HEAR my voice." Those who are being led by the Spirit of God, they

are the sons of God. If we do not have the Spirit of Christ we do not belong to

Him. If we are not following Jesus every day and if we do not live every day to

please Him then we are lost, and we are not going after Him, then we are going

after other things, then we have lost Jesus. We will only be saved in the end

if we come to Jesus and we stay with Him until

the very end. Many started out well and then they backslid, but they must go

back to Jesus. He is waiting for them to come back, to follow Him until the very

end. It is not how you start that matters it is how you finish. You can start well

and then lose, but if you but if you go back to Jesus and you run the rest of

the race with endurance, with sincerity and if you stay with Jesus, and follow

Him until the very end, then He will guide you. He will teach you and He will

give you eternal life, but you have to stay with Him. It is not your

relationship with your church and other people that saves you, it is our

relationship with Jesus Christ that will save us, if that relationship is right.

Many are just religious. They are busy with Church and Bible study, religious

activities, but they have no relationship with Jesus.

Many are preachers and Jesus warned, He said He will say to many who thought they

were saved, He will say to them:" Go away I never knew you, you workers of wickedness." They

were not following Jesus, they were following their own mind. They were

building their own churches, building their own kingdoms, running after their

own ideas, running after other people, but they were not with Jesus, and were not

following Jesus. Their relationship with Jesus was not real and therefore they

will perish. There is only one way to have eternal life and that is to come to

Jesus and stay with Jesus until the very end. If our relationship with Jesus

Christ is not real and He is not pleased with us

then we are doomed, we are in danger of hellfire. If we do not stay with Him

until the very end we will perish. Jesus warned, those who endure until the

end will be saved. If you don't have Jesus you don't have life. Seek Him while

you can. Seek Him with all your heart, obey His words, repent and be baptized,

and seek Jesus Christ. Seek the infilling with the Holy Spirit and seek to stay

full. Seek to hear His voice. He will speak to you if you seek Him with all

your heart and stay with. Them follow Him, obey Him until the very end.

Seek Jesus while you can. May Jesus bless you.
