Youtube daily report w Sep 15 2017

Hello everyone!

This is TIMOTHEVS!

Have you ever heard of the Green Man?

A Green Man is drawing or carving of a human face with either leaves instead of hair or

leaves spewing out of the facial cavities.

If you live in a city in Europe or the New World with buildings dating to the 19th century

or earlier, chances are you've already seen one.

And if you haven't, you're very likely to spot one once you start paying attention

to the doors and façades of old buildings.

The meaning of these Green Men has been much debated and reinterpreted, but it is often

implied that He was a Pagan Deity that continued to be worshipped in secret and survived Christianisation.

Let me get back to that in a minute.

In case you want to see one for yourself, You are most likely to find one on a 19th

or early 20th century building as they were pretty popular back then and there are still

plenty of buildings around from that era.

But If you're lucky you, you might be able to find one on a mantelpiece in a 17th or

18th century house.

You can also encounter them on doors.

Around where I live, they are quite common on the doors of churches and the like.

In this particular case, the Green Man serves as a plinth for the Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus.

These two characters from Christian mythology standing as conquerors on top of a non-Christian

creature may indicate that the sculptor wanted this Green Man to represent a Pagan deity,

but was there in fact a deity that was depicted in this manner in pre-Christian Europe?

Modern writers and sellers of home and garden decoration often describe the Green Man as

a representation of the Wine God Bacchus The reason for this assumption seems to be

the fact that the Greeks and Romans typically depicted Bacchus with a wreath of ivy on top

of His head, but I personally find this far from convincing: a wreath on top of a human

head is not at all the same thing as a half-man half-foliage creature and moreover, Bacchus

was typically depicted as a beautiful man, while the Green Man usually has more grotesque features.

was typically depicted as a beautiful man, while the Green Man usually has more grotesque features.

A Greco-Roman Deity that often does have grotesque features and is also sometimes equated with

the Green man is the woodland Deity Faunus.

However, Faunus is not depicted with foliage around His face and –unlike the Green Man–

He has goat-horns.

antlers.

According to another and somewhat more plausible theory, the origin of the medieval Green Man

lies in the Greco-Roman depictions of water deities like Oceanus or Achelous.

However, unlike the Green Man, Oceanus was typically depicted with crab pincers for horns…

…and Achelous had bullhorns.

By the way, one of them was broken off by Hercules and turned into the cornu copiae

("the horn of plenty").

But does this mean that the Green Man was a medieval invention that is unrelated to Antiquity?

But does this mean that the Green Man was a medieval invention that is unrelated to Antiquity?

Not quite, it seems!

There are many Roman mosaics and carvings that fit the description of the Green Man,

but it's not always clear whom they represent.

Let's have a look at a few examples!

A very clear example of a Green Man-like creature can be seen on the "Great Dish" of the

Mildenhall treasure.

As Bacchus and Faunus also make their appearance on the same dish, it is very clear that the

face in the middle is not meant to represent the Wine God nor His horned friend.

There are however several clues that imply He is a water Deity:

Like the seashells all around Him that separate the middle part of the dish from the Bacchic

scenes around it… …the dolphins emerging from His beard…

One of the sea nymphs called the Nereides riding a half-horse half-fish creature called

a Hippocampus …

22 …and another Nereis riding a Sea God, probably

Phorcus.

So in this case, the Green Man obviously represents a water Deity, most likely Oceanus…

I've encountered several similar Roman depictions of a Green Man-like creature

where the marine wildlife also points towards Oceanus.

24 Other times though such elements are absent

and yet other times elements that are not particularly sea-related are present instead.

Is this also Oceanus?

Or is it perhaps a lesser known vegetation Deity that was depicted in a similar fashion?

In any case, whether they are surrounded by marine wildlife or not, it seems that Roman

Green Men were primarily decorative in nature, rather than devotional.

At best, they may have had some kind apotropaic function (in other words, perhaps they were

believed to ward off evil, like the face of Medusa).

So is the Green Man of the Middle Ages and later a Pagan Deity that escaped Christianisation?

Yes and no.

The visual similarity is striking enough to suspect that the first Medieval Green Men

were made by people who had seen foliate heads on old Roman buildings or graves, but it is

conceivable that they were no longer aware of whom they were supposed to depict.

In that case, we can't exactly say the Deity survived Christianisation.

Roman Green Men didn't seem to have a devotional function to begin with, but if even the myths

that were attached to them were forgotten, there's not much left there that can be

called "Pagan".

It's almost no more Pagan than other architectural features that were popularised in Antiquity

like say a Corinthian column, or a Tympanum.

Though I have to admit I kind of like the idea of Oceanus quietly hiding in churches,

waiting to be rediscovered by future generations…

This is a Green Man I carved out of a piece of beech wood back in 2010.

It probably was one of my more challenging projects so far, but I think it turned out

okay.

When you're not even trying You got me wondering what, what if you were

Oh baby Come on and say it now

Just let the words come out Tell me you love me

It's easy Just say what's on your mind

Say it a million times Tell me you love me

Come on, I know it's way too soon

But I waited for you And I think that's long enough

So long, To all those lonely nights

Battles and picking fights It's already been done

I, can't believe my eyes How on earth did I find

Myself so far in love We, could be the perfect match

And what's so wrong with that

Oh baby Come on and say it now

Just let the words come out Tell me you love me

President Moon says no to nuclear weapons in South Korea - Duration: 2:17.

President Moon Jae-in is insisting South Korea will never arm itself with nuclear weapons.

During a sit-down with CNN on Thursday... so prior to today's North Korean missile launch,...

the president ruled out the possibility of U.S. nukes ever being re-deployed in South

Korea,... saying such a move would only spark a nuclear arms race in the region.

But he recognized the need for South Korea to bolster its military capabilities... in

other ways... to cope with North Korea.

Park Hee-jun with more.

Just days before his departure to New York City, President Moon Jae-in squashed the idea

of South Korea's self-nuclear armament amid North Korea's recent missile launches and

nuclear test.

In an one-on-one interview with CNN on Thursday afternoon, President Moon said he doesn't

agree Seoul needs to develop its own nuclear weapons or relocate U.S.' tactical nuclear

weapons to the Korean peninsula as such move could lead to a nuclear arms race in the region.

However he did highlight that Seoul needs to develop its own military capabilities amid

Pyongyang's nuclear advancement.

Regarding the latest UN Security Council resolution on the regime, the South Korean leader said

the adoption is meant to prevent any war-triggering act and is now up to North Korea to make the

right conditions for peace and dialogue.

President Moon emphasized the international community, let alone South Korea, will never

accept a nuclearized North Korea.

He also expressed his frustration and once again condemned North Korea's reckless behavior

despite Seoul's past efforts to resume dialogue, saying it is not helpful to North Korea itself

or inter-Korean relations and threatens world peace.

He also said the combined defense capabilities of South Korea and the U.S. are enough to

neutralize any threat from North Korea in its early stage.

However, President Moon once again underscored that his administration doesn't have a hostile

policy toward the North Korean regime and thus, will not push for an artificial or forced

reunification.

President Moon will fly out to New York next Monday, where he will deliver a keynote speech

during the 72nd UN General Assembly,... seeking the international community's consensus on

North Korea's nuclear issues.

South Korean President condemns N. Korean missile test; orders readiness against biological threats - Duration: 3:53.

Following the launch, South Korea's presidential office held an emergency meeting of the National

Security Council.

Let's now go live to our chief Blue House correspondent Moon Connyoung.

Connyoung, how is the top office taking the North's missile launch this morning?

North Korea's missile launch today is definitely a direct challenge to South Korea, the U.S.,

and the rest of the international community as it comes just days after a new sanctions

resolution was adopted by the UN Security Council intended to force the rogue state

to halt its accelerating nuclear and missile tests, Mark.

Now within an hour or so from Pyongyang's missile launch, South Korean President Moon

Jae-in held an urgent meeting of the National Security Council... which lasted over 70 minutes.

Here's President Moon's Spokesperson, Park Soo-hyun.

(Korean) "Upon being briefed on North Korea's missile

launch this morning, President Moon immediately ordered the launch of Hyunmoo-2 ballistic

missile off in a simulated pre-emptive strike and said this is the time to make all out

efforts to ensure the UNSC resolution 2375 is thoroughly executed."

Now, his spokesperson also told the media that President Moon ordered his government

to be fully prepared against an electromagnetic pulse or EMP and biological threats from North

Korea.

These are things that Pyongyang has been threatening of.

Connyoung, even in the wake of North Korea's latest and most powerful nuclear test to date

just over a week ago, President Moon had not ruled out the possibility of talks and engagement

with North Korea.

Does today's launch change anything for President Moon?

You're absolutely right, Mark.

The South Korean leader, despite continued provocations from Pyongyang, has never taken

the engagement option with North Korea off the table.

And, today during the security meeting, he did say South Korea must work with the international

community to examine all diplomatic means to get North Korea to give up its nuclear

and missile programs.

BUT, he also ordered his government to put together effective and stern measures based

on combined defense with the U.S. to cope with the growing threat from Pyongyang...

and said this is no time for dialogue with the North.

So, maybe later, maybe some other time, but with North Korea's relentless provocations

this just isn't the time.

Remember, today's missile test is the 15th by North Korea this year alone and the first

since North Korea detonated its most powerful nuclear bomb to date on September 3rd - that's

only 12 days ago.

The launch also comes just days before South Korean President Moon Jae-in will meet with

U.S. President Donald Trump and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the UN General Assembly

in New York next week... so we'll have to wait and see whether the leaders along with

the rest of the global community will enact tougher sanctions on the North.

(VCR OUT) And, that may include a complete cutoff of

oil and other fuels imported into the North, mostly from China... this time around.

Mark.

Definitely.

All right.

Thank you Connyoung.

Straight Razor Half Pass Revealed - Duration: 10:32.

Welcome to the Straight Razor Edge Friday Special! Hey Eric here with

Adventures In Wet Shaving and welcome back if this is your first time here

your interest and learning how to straight razor shave and all things

straight razors related go ahead and hit that subscribe button then click on

the bell next to it to be notified when I upload videos that way you won't miss

a thing in tonight's straight razor edge Friday

special we are doing a straight razor half past revealed all right now

AJ asked you should do a detailed video half pass so that's what we're gonna do

all right now for our soap tonight I'm using Stubble Trubble Up and Adam with a

whisper cool so this is like a mocha cappuccino to me with menthol which is

excellent ok and we are going to be using my Z Y Grand Slam just a beautiful

razor half hollow real wood scales metal spacer excellent shaver

okay now that fits in the range for all of you new guys teenagers all of that ok

this is for you because what I do is a little unconventional but the way my

hair grows along my jawline is goes back like this here it goes like this and

hooks back here on this side on the jawline it also goes that way and then

here on my neck it goes that way as well now here pretty much straight down so

what we're going to do and this is I'm gonna do a half pass so I'm gonna do my

jawline and my neck from my ears to my chin right here okay from the outside in

and that is going to be mainly primarily against the grain

except for right through here which it'll be across the grain okay and as

we're going through here we're going to try to even maybe sweep that blade a

little bit this way because that hair is coming this way as well on both sides so

you know that's the best way I've found to get my neck so let's get started I've

already loaded up the brush because we've already done the first two passes

of this shave and we are now focused on the Hat pass so I am just gonna put on

that lather get her go away yep now hopefully you guys have been

enjoying these straight razor edge Friday specials I really need your help

to give me more ideas and questions about new straight razor edge Friday

specials so go ahead and put them down in the comments for me I really

appreciate that that would be awesome and you can really be a part of this

channel alright now so we got that going I'm

gonna just put a little more water on this okay kick yourself just a notch

let's kick it up there we go that's it nice okay find that so we know where it

is okay so again with the razor I put two

fingers in front two fingers and back thumb goes back there

okay underneath and now instead of you could just go across the grain again

either downward or upward okay but for me I found its

better to do against agree on my jawline - know what I do is a reach around grab

that ear and that pulls the skin right here okay and then I hold this blade

like that and in doing so I'm able to actually give the right angle to get

this hair against the grain alright so let's do it so if I can get

you in a little closer

okay now we're gonna switch off now I'm going to grab my jaw line and actually

pull it and I'm puffing out my cheek this is flattening out this whole area

okay because the flatter and taut you can get that skin the better shave your

guy yeah okay so now I just go ahead grab there and then I pull that back and

pop out my chief everything flattens out

yeah and there you go that's looking good now here we're going to kind of do

the windshield wiper

and hit a few little bonds there

no big deal but it does happen from time to time all right so now what we're

going to do we're going to switch hands then we're going to do the other side

actually in the exact same way okay now I'm just going to put a little soap on

that side and that will help those little bunks I hear yeah

so there's another tip for you right there so now I'm reaching around with my

hand grabbing my ear this is going to stretch of this section right here and

see if when I do that it stretches everything out and works really well

okay this is the best way I've found to do this for me

okay now I'm going to grab right there at the jawline puff out that cheek

flatten that skin

all right there you go now that's looking good

yeah I hit a couple little bumps there no big deal Ian windshield washer here

there you go now I'm gonna finish off that jawline and that chin just like

that we got that side now I'll clean out that blade

all right there you go and we are done with the half pass yeah hopefully you

found that helpful and we're gonna just get this washed off oh yeah oh nice nice

shape okay and of course follow it with Allan that will help on those bumps we

hit and then you can follow this up

after we dry it off with your favorite witch hazel aftershave or whatever else

you'd like to hopefully you found that helpful

alright you can click up here to see the first past a beginner shave and it is

the best beginner shape you'll see all right and then down here you see my

เปล๊า! (No!) - ไบร์ทฟาร์ม | Together With Me #อกหักมารักกับผม (+ENG SUB) - Duration: 3:52.

Everything I've given you

I've done for you under the status of a caring friend

I just keep watching you from afar

I just keep trying to please you in a way

That won't let you realize

I try to keep it in, I try not to say it out loud

But I still carelessly give it away

Through the look in my eyes

I tried to keep it a secret

But where did you hear it from?

I really don't know how you could know

No! I don't love you

No! I don't like you

It's just a little feeling, I just have you filling my heart

Tell you "No!" I don't love you

No! I don't feel anything, but if you clearly feel it

Can you please act like you believe me?

(No!)

All the good things I've done

If the truth was that I wanted to do them for you

And you hearing that I love you

If that was the truth, what would you say?

I try to keep it in, I try not to say it out loud

But I still carelessly give it away

Through the look in my eyes

I tried to keep it a secret

But where did you hear it from?

I really don't know how you could know

Bright: That day at restaurant...

Bright: I know you saw me in the toilet, right?
