Beginning Proofs Level 1 In the following series of videos we will

learn how to write simple two-column proofs.

The two-column proof also known as a statement-reason proof, is the main type of proof that we will

use as we continue learning the concepts in geometry.

Traditionally, students do not encounter formal proofs until they take this geometry course.

In reality if you solved an equation in a beginning algebra course and have justified

steps in those solutions then you already have the experience necessary to create and

present mathematical proofs.

A proof is a convincing mathematical argument.

This means that any person, who understands the terminology, accepts the definitions and

premises of the mathematics involved, and thinks in a logically correct fashion could

not deny the validity of the conclusions drawn.

When describing the solution of an equation as an algebraic proof, the premises for the

proof are the given equation, the properties of equality, and the properties of real numbers.

These premises may be used as justifications for each step in the solution of an equation.

The process is analogous to the process used when writing geometric proofs.

An algebraic proof uses algebraic properties of equality.

Recall from your beginning algebra course that the properties of equality include the

addition property of equality, subtraction property of equality, multiplication property

of equality, division property of equality, reflexive property of equality, symmetric

property of equality, transitive property of equality and substitution property of equality.

An algebraic proof also uses the distributive property.

An important part of writing a proof involves the justification of every step.

For example say that we want to solve the following equation and we are asked to prove

it.

We start our two column proof by writing the equation on the left column as follows; we

will write all of our statements on the left column creating a new line for each statement.

On the right column we will write out our reasons or justifications of the statements

from the left column.

Each statement must be numbered and correspond to a reason which has the same number as the

statement in the left column.

Each numbered statement and reason must originate on the same line.

Usually the first statements in a proof will be given to you in this case we are given

this equation so the justification or reason for this statement will be given equation.

Next we proceed in solving the equation so we first apply the distributive property and

distribute 2 into each term; we then write the reason or justification for this step

in this case we write distributive property since we applied the distributive property

to obtain the new statement.

Next we subtract 2 from both sides of the equation and simplify, now this is where many

students make a very common mistake, many students would write subtracted 2 from both

sides as a reason or justification, this would be an incorrect reason, the correct reason

needs to make use of the properties of equality in this case we used the subtraction property

of equality.

The justification for each step is not simply a description of the operation but rather

a general mathematical principle, so make sure you use a mathematical principal as a

justification.

The last step is to divide both sides of the equation by 6 doing that we obtain x equals

5, for our justification we write Division property of equality and not divide by 6.

Like Algebra, geometry also uses numbers, variables and operations.

For example, segment lengths and angle measures are numbers.

So you can use these same properties of equality to write algebraic proofs in geometry.

We will begin to formalize the study of geometry by going over very basic proofs and then add

subsequent layers of complexity as we continue with our studies of geometry.

The geometry concepts presented in these videos are largely based on the ideas set forth more

than 2000 years ago by the Greek mathematician Euclid.

His series of books, Elements, is the first known work in which a logical, deductive system

of reasoning is used as a means of unifying all mathematical knowledge.

In that spirit, geometric proofs will help us learn how to build a logically coherent

system of facts by using deductive reasoning.

Geometry is based on an axiomatic system.

A modern axiomatic system begins with a small set of undefined terms and builds through

the addition of definitions and postulates to the point where many rich mathematical

theorems can be proved.

In an axiomatic system, we agree to leave some terms undefined and then build definitions

of other terms and postulates from those undefined terms.

Undefined terms can be described but cannot be given precise definitions using simple

known terms.

Three undefined terms in geometry are point, line, and plane.

Recall that a point is a circular dot that is shrunk until it has no size.

A line is formed by an infinite number of points, it also has an infinite length so

we denote this idea by using arrowheads; also a line has no thickness.

A plane is a sheet of paper formed by an infinite number of points with no thickness and extending

infinitely in all directions.

Although a plane has no edges, we usually picture a plane by drawing a four-sided figure.

We often label a plane with a capital letter.

These descriptions provide a way for us to visualize points, lines and planes, but they

are not definitions.

We define space to be the set of all points.

Any collection of points is called a geometric figure.

In particular, lines and planes are composed of points, and hence are geometric figures.

Postulates are statements that we assume to be true.

Postulates state relationships among defined and undefined terms.

The purpose of stating postulates is to establish some first principles upon which the subject

of geometry is based.

After introducing postulates and some definitions, we may deduce new results.

Results that we deduce from undefined terms, definitions, postulates or results that follow

from them are commonly called theorems.

A theorem is a mathematical statement that can be proved.

Geometric proofs provide the logical structure that supports an increasingly complex and

powerful set of theorems.

In a general geometric proof, the premises are definitions, postulates, properties and

previously proven theorems.

The early theorems in these videos may seem trivial and writing proofs for such apparently

obvious statements can seem strange at first but it is important to understand that theses

theorems will be needed for later work.

The goal of this and subsequent videos is to provide an opportunity so you can become

familiar with the key elements of a proof.

These proofs will become more complex as we continue with our studies of Geometry.

When writing a geometric proof, you use deductive reasoning to create a chain of logical steps

that move from the hypothesis to the conclusion of the conjecture you are proving.

By proving that the conclusion is true, you have proven that the original conjecture is

true.

When writing a proof, it is important to justify each logical step with a reason.

You can use symbols and abbreviations, but they must be clear enough so that anyone who

reads your proof will understand them.

A geometric proof begins with GIVEN and PROVE statements, which restate the hypothesis and

conclusion of the conjecture respectively.

In a two-column proof, you list the steps of the proof in the left column.

You then write the matching reason for each step in the right column.

Before you start writing a proof, you should plan out your logic.

If a diagram for a proof is not provided, draw your own and mark the given information

on it.

But do not mark the information in the prove statement on the diagram since this is what

we trying to prove.

Alright in our next video we will present and prove our first two theorems in geometry.

What you should & shouldn't do when you feel ignored by your loved one? | animated - Duration: 2:38.

What do you do when you feel ignored by your loved one? and what you shouldn't do?

No.1, Take a look at yourself and your own behavior first.

Before jumping to any conclusions, take a minute to examine your own behavior.

If your loved one is ignoring you, it might be due to something you inadvertently did,

to make them feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable.

Maybe you are too clingy, or too intrusive.

It might just be that your partner needs a little space every once in a while.

No.2, Spend time with friends.

Have you realized how easy it is to ignore this person when you're out with friends,

having a good time?

That's the key.

The more fun you have, and the more you keep yourself distracted, the easier it would be

to move on, and forget this person ever existed.

Remember, conversations with others would prevent your mind from drifting towards thoughts

of this person.

And that's always a good thing.

No.3, Get out of your own head.

When someone ignores you, it's easy to become sad or even depressed.

The best thing to do in a situation like this is to get out of your own head.

Smile, be happy, and don't allow the other person's hurtful behavior to ruin your day.

The happier you are, the more likely people are to be drawn to you.

Confidence is sexy, so be the strong, confident type, and people will find you extremely hard

to ignore.

No.4, Be independent.

When your partner is acting like this, remain independent for some time.

Plan out with your friends, go for shopping, or involve yourself in your favorite activities,

so as to keep your mind on the situation for some time.

Things that should be avoided when you are feeling neglected.

Unless you are hundred percent sure, do not accuse your partner of being a cheater, or

a liar.

Never make assumptions without having clear perception about the situation.

Being neglected certainly upsets you.

Do not try to be defensive.

Do not make the situation, and come up with the stories in your mind, until you are sure

that the behavior and the circumstances are all about you.

Science changing its mind about what is healthy & what isn't healthy. standing to sitting. - Duration: 4:13.

Oh hey good morning how are you guys doing?

Oh whatever, what do you think of the shirt?

My sister got me this shirt well actually what she did was she told me I should buy

it she picked it up for me and I feel like it's one of those relaxed T-shirts you know

like the kind that says hey how's it going?

Just letting it breeze today you know letting it go just relax.

You definitely you probably would not want to wear this shirt like this when you know

you're at a job interview.

You definitely would not want that anyway welcome to today's video

look at Sheena's get up Hi How do you look?

I feel pretty.

Ha ha I feel pretty that is awesome over here we have a sleeping Drexy and how is Xaiver

today?

Good.

Good!

How's your smiley cookie?

Yup.

Yes we were here at Tim Hortons T-t-t-t Timmies Just grab a coffee and something to eat they

are also doing their smiley cookie fundraiser they are a dollar a cookie it's a cookie with

a smiley face on it and now we are just killing time this Saturday so now I don't know what

we're going to do.

We are just kind of relaxing and sitting here but we shouldn't sit too long good old science

is telling us sitting too long is unhealthy for you you have to get up every 30 minutes

and just stretch for like five minutes then sit down again and yes, also standing apparently

standing unhealthy if you stand for long periods of time it's unhealthy they recommend standing

no less than nine hours wow.

Just when you got yourself that standing desk to hey?

Just when you invested in the standing desk market I feel your pain.

No I don't I didn't get a standing desk I was tempted to get one of those standing desks

because when im editing videos on the computer I do get kind of crampy because you're sitting

in front of a computer if you stand it would actually be a good idea because if you get

tired okay great I got to get this project finished faster faster faster.

And then versus if you're sitting you are like oh yes I could just close my eyes for

a minute and relax for second.

But yes we are indeed back at home probably staying home for the remainder of the day

I got to get this video up for you earlier today.

Subtitles guys subtitles are kind of intense to do by myself if you are interested in volunteering

your time to help me make subtitles for my videos I will provide a link in the description

of this video it will be the second link down because the first link is always Andrew or

whoever you know gave me permission to use their music you hear I usually give them a

shout out in the description of each video so look for the link that I'm going to call

it help me make subtitles for my videos please there will be a link after that please and

if you feel like helping me write subtitles for my videos that would mean the world to

me because I can't do it alone I have been working really hard to make all my videos

fully accessible for my good friends the deaf people people who can't hear I don't know

if that's how I should call them I'm very sorry but basically I tried to make my videos

very accessible and I can't do it I am a one-man army and it only takes one shot to get rid

of a one man army please like, comment and subscribe we will talk to you real soon peace!

wait there we go.

Why Butter Jeans? - Duration: 1:15.

Our jeans are made with a unique technology to shape any body type.

We believe jeans need to adjust to you, and not the other way around.

We begin our manufacturing process with a textile that is stretchy, but also comfortable and durable.

That's why we use 97% high quality Colombian cotton - which is soft, easy to wash and breathable,

and 3% lycra to retain shape and freedom of movement.

Our diagonal stitching technique helps the fabric remain the same over time, and doesn't stretch after washing.

The 3 button design is made to fit like a corset: It flattens the lower tummy and shapes your waist.

Our back seams are positioned to lift up, and with the help of the side seams,

our jeans not only push-up but also push in!

It's important to us to follow all environmental laws throughout our production, and only use

water with a neutralized PH to keep our high textile quality.

Each denim is carefully inspected to comfortably fit and shape your body type.

BREAKING: Former CIA Chief Makes Shock Announcement, Millions Are Stunned | Top Stories Today - Duration: 3:13.

One of the things that many people in government seem to lose is their sense of personal values.

A former CIA chief showed that it is possible to keep your values intact, long after leaving

his position with the intelligence committee.

Michael J. Morell served as a non-resident senior fellow at Harvard's Kennedy School

until this past Thursday.

He turned in his resignation letter after he discovered that Chelsea Manning was set

to be a visiting fellow this year.

In the letter, Morell clarified that he "cannot be part of an organization" that " honors

a convicted felon and leaker of classified information," according to The Washington

Times.

Morell stated that his decision had nothing to do with the fact that Manning is a transgender

American.

He went on to say that he supports her rights, "including the right to serve our country

in the US military."

It was clear that his problem had to do with the traitorous behavior of Manning during

her time in the military.

The crimes put forward by Manning do certainly cause an eyebrow to be raised and should make

one think twice about pledging support.

The resignation letter highlighted these crimes and explained why they are such a problem.

It is important to note that a pardon by Obama cleared up what would otherwise be a 35-year

sentence at Fort Leavenworth, according to CNN.

"Ms. Manning was found guilty of 17 serious crimes, including six counts of espionage,

for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks, an entity that CIA

Director Mike Pompeo says operates like an adversarial foreign intelligence service,"

Morell's letter read.

Morell believes that when the Kennedy School invited Manning to the event, they were doing

nothing more than legitimizing the traitorous path that she took.

The fear is that by making what Manning did acceptable, it might encourage other people

to also leak information.

How far would it go before that information ended up in the wrong hands and innocent people

ended up dead?

The material that Manning leaked was published to WikiLeaks back in 2010.

It included material such as video of a US helicopter attacking civilians in Iraq back

in 2007.

There was obvious blowback from human rights activists, and they demanded that something

be done about the video.

Manning was found guilty on 20 out of the 22 charges, including being in direct violation

of the US Espionage Act.

Manning was lucky to get the 35-year sentence considering that the most serious crime, aiding

the enemy, was dropped.

Conviction of this crime would have landed Manning in prison for the rest of her life.

Morell closed out his resignation letter by writing, "But, it is my right, indeed my

duty, to argue that the School's decision is wholly inappropriate and to protest it

by resigning from the Kennedy School – in order to make the fundamental point that leaking

classified information is disgraceful and damaging to our nation."

While the circumstances are far from ideal, it is refreshing to see someone stand up for

their values against all other odds.

Hopefully, Morell finds the peace he deserves after leaving the Kennedy School.

One Minute Wisdoms - The Mental Health Continuum - Duration: 1:12.

We treat depression like an on off switch, you're depressed, you're not depressed, you're

depressed, you're not depressed.

I was so happy to finally switch to off to 'not depressed' but I soon realised my life was

still pretty shitty, I wasn't depressed but I certainly wasn't mentally well.

That's also when I realised that mental health isn't an on/off switch, it's actually

a continuum.

A continuum that runs from zero, being dead, to 100 being god-like enlightenment and we are ALL somewhere on that continuum.

If you spend too much time down the bottom that's called 'depression'.

The point is, you don't want to spend your life at 30 on the scale either.

Easy Harvest Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (no blanching) - Duration: 7:01.

hi everyone thanks for stopping by today Simply Sara and I bring you our Harvest

Collaboration please stop by her channel and check out what she's making. She's

making a Harvest Apple Custard Cobbler. Today I'm going to show to make these Easy

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls and those days of blanching cabbage leaves are over

because I show you the shortcut on how to make the rolled cabbage easier for you. Please

don't forget to stop by my Facebook page at CookingWithTovia and follow me on

instagram at ToviaGartenberg

Break apart the ground beef

Combine the ground meat, cooked rice, salt, pepper, oregano, parsley, onions, egg, and mushrooms.

(You should freeze your cabbage the night before, and take it out to thaw)

I'm using light brown rice, but any rice works.

add the butter milk

The reason why we freeze the cabbage is to wilt the leaves. You take it out the next day, allow it to thaw completely.

and the leaves will be wilted and you don't have to worry about boiling all

the leaves blanching the leaves add the onions and mushrooms

combine all that together this is the cabbage I took it out of the freezer it

it's thawed and as you can see the cabbage is wilted

Carefully peel off the leaves, I'm going to use 14.

I'm going to finish peeling off the leaves.

I'm only going to peel off 14 of them

Shape the meat into one log, and fold the outside leaves in then roll from the bottom up

like you're ruling the egg roll almost, just like you're rolling an egg

roll. Then I'm going place this into my my pan here and see freezing that cabbage makes it

where you don't have to worry about blanching it like I said

okay so I got here tomato sauce

diced tomatoes, sugar

white wine vinegar

and then I'm going to mix together some cornstarch and water

and then I mix the two together the cornstarch and water too slow so this is

beginning to get hot it's began to come to a boil so then add the

cornstarch and water and I'm gonna bring this to a complete boil I'm going to be

stirring this until it becomes to a boil it's kind of thicken soon as it comes to a boil

and thicken I'm gonna turn it off

add salt and pepper to taste I'm gonna give this the mix turn off the

heat then I have my cabbage here that I've rolled, pour it over the cabbage

This is going to go into a 425 degree oven F. for about 45 minutes to an hour

it and I did continue to go into the oven and baste it with the

tomato juice just to prevent everything from burning up.

I had it in the oven for 55 minutes.

The inside looks beautiful!

traditionally I would just use my fork but I just wanted to cut it so you guys

see the inside

absolutely delicious

Wow

this is a dish guaranteed to make you guys's harvest season are on fall or

autumn season. This is nice and hearty
