So we will start from the bottom and we will make our way up to the top.
First thing we have to do is chain 4 and then we will be making 4 more double crochet in the forth chain from the hook.
The stitches we will be using are chains, double crochet and slip stitches.
let's make the 4 chains
in the fourth chain from the hook we will make 4 more double crochet
for a total of 5 double crochet as the chain 4 counts as a double crochet
Two
three
four
five
now we chain 3 which counts as 1 double crochet
turn your work
we make a double crochet in the same stitch of the chain 3
basically we are increasing the first double crochet.
then we do one double crochet in the next 2 double crochet and other increase in the last double crochet
at the end of row 2 we will have 7 double crochet
we have 5 double crochet and we increase in the third chain of row 1 beginning chain
one
two
for a total of 7 double crochet
turn your work
we will begin row 3 slip stitching in the first 2 double crochet
1 slip stitch
2 slip stitches
we start row 3 increasing in the third double crochet of row 2
We chain 3 which counts as double crochet and we make 1 double crochet in same double crochet
then we increase 2 more times in the next 2 double crochet
you will end row 3 with 3 increases and you will leave the rest or the stitches of row 2 unworked.
for a total of 6 double crochets
you see we are shaping the butterfly body
6 double crochets in row 3
In row 4 we will have a total of 8 double crochets
also we will be slip stitching every other row
chain 3 and turn your work
we will increase in first and last double crochet
first double crochet in the same stitch where you chained 3
1 double crochet in next 4 double crochet of row 3
last increase of row 4 will be made into the third chain of row 3 starting chain
one
two
for a total of 8 double crochets
Row 5
we will end the row with 8 double crochets
slip stitch in first 2 stitches
so we will start our double crochets in the third stitch
one
two
we are in the third stitch and we now chain 3 which counts as double crochet
row 5 will have 4 increases total
so we will chain 3 and we will make a double crochet in the same stitch
then we will make 2 double crochet in the next 3 stitches
If you want to get the same thread I'm using it's anchor but there's a thinner size that works better
this one I'm using splits a little
unfortunately I found out after I started working with it.
we make another double crochet in same stitch
one more increase.
we increase in each stitch
We will end up with 4 increases for row 5
here is one, 2 double crochet in same stitch
two, 2 more double crochet in same stitch
three, 2 more double crochet in same stitch
and fourth increase
we will have a total of 8 double crochet
we start row 6 chaining 3
and we will increase in first and last stitch
turn your work
and chain 3
increase in same stitch
1 double crochet in next 6 stitches
now we increase in third chain of row 5 starting chain
now the second double crochet of the increase
we will have a total of 10 double crochet in row 6
row 7 will start with 2 slip stitches
turn your work
slip stitch in the first 2 stitches you will find yourself in the third stitch where you will chain
row 7 will have a total of 5 increases
start chaining 3 which counts ad 1st double crochet
then we double crochet in same stitch of chain 3
one increase
second increase
third increase
fourth increase
and fifth increase
row 7 has a total of 10 double crochet
row 8 starts with a chain 3
one, two, three
turn your work and make 1 more double crochet in same stitch as the chain 3
row 8 will have 2 increases at the beginning and at the end
first increase
after the first increase make 1 double crochet in each one of the next 8 stitches
one double crochet
two double crochet
three
four
five
six
seven
eight
and last increase in 3rd chain of starting chain previous row
total of 12 double crochet in row 8
We will start row 9 with 3 slip stitches and our row will begin in the 4th stitch

second increase
third increase
fourth increase
fifth increase
sixth increase
seventh increase
row 10
in this row we will increase in first and last stitch
chain 3 and turn your work
we increase in same stitch of the chain 3
after the first increase we will be making 1 double crochet in each of the next 10 stitches
in row 10 we have a total of 14 double crochets
so we had 12 double crochet in the previous row and 14 in row 10
now we are going to increase in the third chain of the previous row
one
two
remember we increased in first and last stitch
now we turn our work and slip stitch in the first 3 stitches

one slip stitch
two slip stitches
three slip stitches
we are goin to increase 8 times
first increase
second increase
third increase
fourth increase
fifth increase
sixth increase
seventh increase
eighth increase
we have a total of 16 double crochets
now we chain 3 and turn the work
we are making row 12
we will be increasing in the first and last stitch
after first increase we will be making one double crochet in each of the next 14 stitches
if you separate the double crochet posts it will be a little easier to count your stitches
it is important not to forget that the chain 3 counts as a double crochet so you will need to work the last increase into it
15
see here? If you separate the double crochet posts you will definitely see that you have 1 more post to use which is the chain 3 where we will be increasing
16
now we make 2 double crochets in the third chain of previous row starting chain
one
two
we will have a total of 18 double crochets
next we turn the work and slip stitch 7 times starting row 13 in the eighth stitch
one
two
three
four

seven
we will chain in the eighth stitch
in row 13 we will be increasing 4 times
we begin chaining 3 which counts as a first double crochet and making another double crochet in the same stitch
second increase
third increase
fourth increase
Now in row 14 we will be increasing in the first and last stitch
we chain 3 and we turn work
we increase in same stitch as the chain 3
then we will be making one double crochet in each of the next 6 stitches
and we will be increasing in the third chain of the previous row starting chain
we have 10 double crochet total
now we turn work
for the last part we will be using single crochets
we will make 4 single crochet followed by 10 chains
we will go down the chain with slip stitches
chain 1
4 single crochet
now we chain 10
now we go down the chain with 10 slip stitches
once you get to the bottom single crochet in next stitch
then we chain 4
then we go down the chain 4 with 3 slip stitches
we make a single crochet in next stitch
then we chain 4
and then we go down the chain with 3 slip stitches
then we single crochet in next stitch
then we chain 10
now we go down the chain again with slip stitches
single crochet in next stitch
and then we finish with the last 2 single crochet
Here you have the body of the butterfly
