It's bought without the box, that one.
Is it Barbershop?
National Parks, I think.
Hello and welcome to Inside the Box.
We have made the trip to Ishøj, today.
Vi er are visiting Jacob Kjerulff
who undisputed must be one of Denmark's
greatest sneaker collectors - I think that's fair to say.
Here we have Jacob!
Jacob, thank you so much for having us.
Thank you for stopping by. I have been looking forward to
going through it all. Take a look
in here, at what might be
something that I personally
would like to have at home.
The treasure chamber.
Can you tell us
what's going on in here.
How would you define this room?
It's "The Grail Room"
or what do we call it?
This is were everything I collected came together.
I save everything here, which I
really value highly.
I'm running out of space.
It is
from the floor to the ceiling. Can you explain
when it all started?
When did you begin with sneakers?
Oh, I'm an OG type.
kind of like you, Mads.
My approach
to all this
with sneakers, is Hip-Hop.
The Hip-Hop culture
entered my life
in the beginning of the '90s
and everything sort of relates to Hip-Hop.
To basket. To shoes.
There is no doubt
that the biggest icon
was definitely Michael Jordan.
The Air Force
and stuff like that.
Looking back to your youth
and the '90s and music.
You played basketball yourself
-as a hobby.
How did all that turn into this?
It has been a long process.
It didn't happen overnight.
I remember
in the start '00s.
You don't know that
your'e a collector before you end up here.
Back then, you didn't know when
a shoe had release and stuff like that.
You walked into Foot Locker and looked around.
'Okay - they have the new Jordan'.
You think
Jordans are cool, but
as you can see behind you, Mads
I've ended up in runners
more recently.
From Asics to New Balance
Diadorra.
We will go through the best ones.
All this right here happened
pretty fast I must say.
Turing into something more serious
where this one wall is only runners.
But 10 years ago...
You've still been
ahead of many others.
I think we should start
where you started.
Let's take a look. Check out
this Jordan wall.
Before Jakob pulls the heat of the shelves,
check out these photos
on the boxes.
That is truly
attention to details.
I envy that.
Printed images
that have been cut out and glued on.
You will never
take out the wrong one. I have to
know what's inside the boxes.
They all look alike.
And if you don't want to read everytime.
I don't know the color codes by heart.
I took out this one - and I HAVE to.
I don't wear this everyday.
It is actually
Deadstock.
From 2011.
Because in 1996
when these released
I was not able to afford stuff like this.
And more than anything, I don't think
I would have known where to buy it.
You would see this
in Slam Magazine
-Source Magazine.
If you saw a Jordan ad on TV
I would have no idea where to buy it,
but I knew it was cool.
It was retroed again in
in '01 or something.
No money - no time.
Not on point.
But I remember in '11.
This created mayhem in The States.
It did and have done so every time.
I need to start wearing these instead of buying more.
Yes - they need some air.
The limo of Jordans.
Are they your favorite Jordans?
Probably something
more like this. Timeless.
These are easier for me to pull off
Than a Concord.
It was back again
last year. The
one we had before was
a 2009 version of a Countdown Pack.
I think the leather on it, is a little off.
It's very stiff. I think
it was bette for the '16 version.
I doesn't get any more classic than this
in my opinion.
There are many other 1s, but the 3
has a special place in my heart.
I believe
that this bad boy...
You have to store
them
somewhat
descent so they won't...
This 100%
a grail this one.
Nike Air Logo.
Check! You have them out for
a walk - the way it should be, man!
The most recent Jordan that I've bought
is a Shadow.
I have it down here.
That is from this year, right) Yes, and it's a 1.
So you still... I'm still there
but on a
minimal level. As I said, I'm not getting a
a Concord in December. Had you asked me
me 5 years ago.... Are you crazy...
What about OFF-White and
Travis Scott 4s.
The impossible items.
To be honest, that's just not me.
I would rather
wear something like this over an OFF-White
I don't really get it. I know that
you really like it, Mads.
Not 100% but
I thought it was fun
when he deconstructed
something so special.
But I think he has done well.
Travis Scott and
Levi's
and stuff like that. I get it, but I don't need to
have them. I like Levi's as well.
No doubt about it. I would like those.
And deconstruct
and sand a little bit.
But no, all that
OFF-White and stuff.
You will not find it in here.
We are dealing with
a sneaker fan
from a different generation.
Take notice as we walk through.
Let's move over here
in the Air department.
I love how neat it is.
So nice!
It is nice to be in this room.
Air Max! There is no doubt that
when we are discussing designers.
We talked
about this one. Tinker Hatfield.
Wow! He has
made the most aesthetics looking
shoe.
Air Max 1.
You have a great stock on those.
Anniversary. I had to.
This is
"Obsidian" but from an aesthetics point of view.
An Air Max 1 if I had to choose.
This is the honest truth.
One shoe
that is the most aesthetics looking. Be careful now...
Yes! But it is an Air Max 1.
Is there anything here
which is your favorit? Well...
some of the Air Max 1 collabs.
Unfortunately I don't have any.
The Pattas and stuff like that are
grails.
They cost...
I don't want to pay 2000 dollars
for a used shoe.
I liked when they
revived "Elephant"
from the archives.
For sure.
That made my heart happy!
They are cool, these.
I have the original
- and they haven't popped?
Yes so far they haven't.
At least I hope so. Maybe I need to check up on them!
Sean came with... I have it
over here. I might say that I don't
like hype and so on...
But this one!
It's crazy! Yeah, we have talked
a lot about this on in Rezet.
I mean, the entire
storytelling and him
as a person and the way it was lauched.
It has been a while
since we something THAT complete.
When people
from the culture are allowed to create
shoes - I'm down with that.
The man owns Round Two
and loves shoes and Nike.
It's totally Just Do
that he made this one.
I really hope that it will not be
bastardized and will be made
in other colorways and stuff.
I think somethings are to be left exclusive.
Listen, we are headed to the other side.
I mean this is... if it was up to me...
I would look at everything.
You have a lot of ASICS here.
That is a pretty new area for me.
It kinda
evovled. Philip, come over here for a minute...
fairly new stuff
but we're talking from floor to ceiling in ASICS.
At some point...
maybe 3-4 years ago.
Maybe 5.
I had become a little tired of Jordans.
Retros and the same things...
and so on... If you already have found your
"White Cement" 3s and stuff.
You have it with Nike Air on the heel.
I like it but
the new colorways they are trying out.
I don't know... It's not reallly...
I have classic colorways behind you.
As you can see.
I needed something new. A good friend
of mine, introduced me to
ASICS and I
was sold!
The shoe that had me
sold on runner in general
was Concepts
"Luxury Goods"
It's super nice.
The idea of having
a theme behind a shoe
was pretty new for me.
Hermes, if I pronounce it correctly.
The French luxury brand.
Everything is works.
The materials.
Something that Jordan
began neglecting.
The way they look on your feet.
We don't wear wide Levi's 501s anymore
Now er wear joggers and so on.
It looks so much better on the feet.
So that one, it very special for me.
It hasn't been more than
5-6 years ago.
I think 5.
We talk a lot about New Balance.
There is no doubt about their strong side; quality
materials and colors.
They are so good at colorways and we talked about
it before we started filming, that
even their in-line shoes
and their general releases are super cool as they are.
I mean, how is it...
how do you differentiate?
Do you buy general releases because you like them?
I do! I can pull a random style.
Like this! No hype.
No nothing - just a general
release. Part of a
"Connisure Pack"
I mean, come on! This is nice.
Really nice. We cannot get around
the man, who I rate
higher than other designers.
On this world. Ronnie Fieg.
I know he has
made stuff with Nike.
But his ASICS...
He made the "East Coast Project Pack".
If you know a little about
American football, this is
inspired by the Miami Dolphins.
I clearly remember
when these released. They are super hard.
With sock and everything.
and New York Knicks
All of The East Coast.
From Miami to New York.
Do you have storys connected to all these?
Who did you buy from - was most of it online?
No, I joined in so late,
that I have had to
get a hold of other collectors.
So it's good to know the right
buddies with the same shoe size.
Shout out! Shout out to...
Claus Nelson.
Respect!
He established something.
He was intern or something
with David Z.
I have a funny story
that I mention a lot because I bought shoes
from Ronnie Fieg when he was
on the floor in David Z.
Maybe that also lets you
for how many years I've been collecting.
I bought regular
New Balance Made in US
from Ronnie Fieg when he was on the floor in the store
and assisted. Exactly!
Now he has an empire.
I really have a deep respect for what he has done.
You don't see any adidas in here.
But...
It might be a little strange.
I hadn't even noticed.
I'm very brand loyal.
Nike-guy by heart.
Nobody queued up for adidas before
Kanye started.
I don't think so. We need to
have a look at these boxes
up here. Because
one is getting a lot of
limited shoes and things that have
online on the reseller market.
But if you get this type of boxes
with you, so you have
the limited boxes from in-store releases
around the World.
That just shows that you gave it an extra effort.
For sure. Let's take a look at some of them.
Concepts, who makes these boxes.
"Rat Pack"
You design a Diadora based on
a tuxedo.
an the real box
inside.
Piano laces and all.
We need to see this. The Money Box?
Drug boxen. Yes, Concepts
have a habit of
making a money or drug
theme. I'll show
one called C-Note after this one.
Stacks!
Money!
Check it out.
A shoe
inspired by coca leaves
and you probably know
what that turn into eventually.
The "Rivalry Pack".
They made a
From 'Boston to New York' Pack
with Baseball. This is
popcorn from the stadium here.
And and in-store banner.
This is so awesome. You mentioned
that you feel that
that Ronnie Fieg is the man of Asics and Concepts
means New Balance. Yes - If you have to
make out where they lean towards.
But inspired by the stadium
in Boston, which is beginning to fade a little bit.
The grey and the green
and the rusty color here.
Yeah, man!
There is a a story behind all shoes.
"The Boston Tea Party" is
historic event from
1500 or something.
In New England
I believe that
this box was inspired by something...
There's a small poster
which explains it all.
The shoe by itself is insane.
They have an anniversary in 2015.
Asics... on the Gel-Lyte III.
Where 12 stores
made a shoe each.
This was Concepts'
version. We know that
you take a lot of photos.
Another passion of yours.
A hobby
that has taken overhand.
Your take shoes
outside. It's
a good way to un-deadstock
your shoes... to put them on.
Get some nice shots.
I haven't been through all of them yet.
It has to be the right day and the right outfit.
There's enough to choose from. I've noticed...
Check out Jacob's instagram.
He makes an extra effort
and more than that.
It's really
sharp images - it's nice...
attention to details.
Which you can also tell from in here. A man that likes details.
So make sure to check it out.
His tag i right here.
It's... it's all
worth it. I find it very inspiring.
You spend time on all of this.
Do you feel, how it
creates a network of people, who writes to you?
Yeah, and many of those end up being the ones
you deal with, if you're the same size.
Or they know someone
who has a "Leatherback" for sale.
I HAVE to show you this one.
Bait
has a habbit of making
Cartoon-ish...
Collabs.
And here they made one based on He-Man.
He-Man "Skeletor".
I went home and found my figure.
Whaaat!
That I had as a kid.
To make a shoe based on it...
That's cool.
Shout out to those of you who were born in the '80s.
It's that real shit!
Cool!
I've never seen this one before.
They made the
Where's Wally and a...
i have The Shrek, if you want to see it?
There's a Shrek shoe!
Dope!
All this passed right by me.
This is so much fun.
Bait X Shrek
Yes! Cool.
Yo, Diadorra! Shout out!
So cool. Kilates in Barcelona.
X-Large is Japanese. Correct me
if I'm wrong... Yes a legendary
streetwear brand on the same level as Stüssy.
If you don't know X-Large.. Check it out
online.
They made this "Copito".
Which is an
albino gorilla, which was in
the Zoo
in Barcelona.
Horse hairs on it...
Insane! You might say
that for many of these collabs...
those who are involved in the design process
have been inspired by
what Ronnie Fieg introduced
and later what Concepts also made.
It's has been
not completely the same...
colorways, but very much in the same
pastel univers. And the use of
of different materials.
I think you can give a lot of credit
to Ronnie Fieg for this.
To think this way... Not a lot of people went this way
before he did it.
Let's look at the last one, Mads!
Yeah, let's do that. I have to
pull out this pink bad boy.
All Gone - please explain that.
Well,
All Gone is the book. The book
that document the culture we are in.
I mean...
and Michael La MJC
from Paris, started out...
I think they just had their 11th...
Yeah, I believe they have published 11 books.
And this one was in last years?
In '14? Okay, it
was a Friends & Family or?
No! It had a release?
It's only released
in the French store Club 75.
They only release
in-store there and this one
is inspired from a cover from '14.
It might be later actually.
But the cover that inspired this one
is from '14.
All Gone!
It it super nice, man.
A single color,
but...
They are all based on a cover
from the All Gone books.
Shit! There are a lot of them.
I wish there were my size.
My girlfriend would not.
Ronnie can actually make
Diadora's.
Of course!
Again, he utilizes
the legendary Salmon color.
An Intrepid model.
Expensive leather at the heel.
Holy shit!
So he got that down as well.
Wow! I must say.
So that had me sold. 100%.
Collabs and all that.
You get a little bit more from a collab.
Except from New Balance.
But I'm from a different era.
Kinda like you, Mads.
It wasn't
all this...
they don't fuck with what's real anymore.
They fuck with what's
hyped.
I'm more in it for the culture.
I really am.
Okay, Jacob said we
can't go before
we show this one.
It is a New Balance 997.5?
Exactly. A fusion
of a 997 and a 998 - the two best models.
And then the man, Ronnie Fieg
who adds his touch to it.
It's insane.
What was the story behind this?
He was on vacation in Greece.
There's a pack with 2 shoes.
You can see it
on the insoles.
Take a look!
Some resort he visited.
With...
beaches and...
Just Greece.
Again,
he adds some colors.
That's his thing.
He's a legend.
Cool.
Jacob, I wish
we could stay
an enitre weekend.
Filming all of it.
Go through all of the shoes.
But unfortunately we can't. We live in a time
where people have an attention span
of 0.3 seconds, but
I hope you've had as much
fun as I've had.
Holy shit, so many dope things.
And you can really tell that you
are dedicated and as mentioned
make sure to follow
Jacob's instagram.
All his pictures and all that stuff that he does.
I'm sure if you DM him,
and need some help with images in general...
Take a trip to Ishøj.
go through the school,
something might come your way.
Right? For sure!
Cool. Thank you so much.
Yor welcome, Mads! Cool.
A walk down memory lane.
Shit!
We're in heaven!
Hey! We were heading out!
But it turns out that there is one more room!
Check this out!
Jacob has another room with sneakers.
One thing that I've noticed is that
he - like all other collectors -
also collects more than sneakers.
We have an entire archive here.
Of NBA shirts!
Even NFL.
And soccer and baseball.
I mean, come on!
Philip, we have to
see these Bryant shirts.
What the hell, come on!
I could stay here forever!
But I think I'll get kicked out soon.
