A lot of questions about Hugh Freeze.

Here is what I have heard about Hugh Freeze.

I have heard that Hugh Freeze is being blocked by people at the University of Tennessee and

that they are not allowing him to be hired.

Now, before you all lose your minds, what I don't know about this as well is what the

SEC response to Hugh Freeze would be.

I don't know what the SEC response would be so I don't know if that blocking is coming

in consultation with the SEC league office.

So I'm not sure what the latest is going to end up being -- what the end result will be.

But I am hearing that Hugh Freeze would love to go to Tennessee and be the offensive coordinator

there but there is an administrative block that is working against him right now.

Who is to blame?

I don't know.

But I do believe that is the hang up on Hugh Freeze and I think it could lead him elsewhere.

Potentially down to Florida State to be the offensive coordinator of the Seminoles.

I think that is a bad deal for Tennessee.

I don't know specifically who is responsible for not letting Hugh Freeze be hired.

I don't know if it is somebody at Tennessee who is making a concerted decision to block

it on their own.

Or whether it is related to the SEC and the fact that the SEC is not ecstatic about Hugh

Freeze coming back in the conference without having worked somewhere else first.

Robin Hood Flops - A Lesson In Condescension - Duration: 6:31.

Robin Hood is one of those terrible films that 250 people did a good job on.

If it wasn't for Gotti, starring a unconvincing doppelganger of John Travolta, it would easily

be the worst major release of the year.

Robin Hood begins by telling us to forget what we know.

Oh I'm sorry, I mean "forget what you know" I'm an English person.

Film's Narrator: He stole from the rich, and gave to the poor.

Or an Irish person.

The filmmakers certainly couldn't tell the difference.

It's loosely a Robin Hood story – a man, an archer, robs from the rich to give to the

poor, and that's about a similar to the tradition as it gets.

Oh and it's in the middle ages too, kind of.

It more or less disregards the source material – which could work.

I'm not against stories being told in different ways, what's baffling is that the people

behind Robin Hood, have no love for history, and no belief in their own audience's ability

to watch a movie that isn't about themselves.

Robin Hood is set at the time of the invasion of Iraq, I mean the crusades, all in a way

that should offend crusaders, modern veterans, and everything inbetween, and features Robin,

who's a lord in this telling of the story, for some reason, pieing of corners like he's

a GI in Cherbourg.

It's in the middle ages but the lord is a foot soldier, the women have an equal say,

any peasant can become a member of the ruling class, and people bandy the word revolution

around like they're going to protest the Sherriff of Nottingham's next inflammatory

lecture circuit regardless of what the campus-men-at-arms have to say.

Crusty old dean.

But all of it could work it didn't condescend in the way it does – it's weird, the producers

obviously thought their target audience, which I guess is 14-18, don't like history, or

at least having to relate to someone with 12th century problems.

Fine So why not set it in the modern age?

You could save a bundle on the $100 million budget.

Yes, it cost $100 million dollars.

After two weeks, it's made half that.

And they should be thankful.

Because I don't think they missed a trick by not setting it in modern times, I just

think that would have helped it be less patronising.

The trick they missed was realising that young people may not be interested in the minutia

of hovel life, but they can cope with a movie set in the past, where values are different.

Look at The Hunger Games – that's a series broadly aimed at an audience of the same age

range, and is a great example of treating teen cinemagoers with some actual respect.

There are flaws, but the first film has genuine moments of dread, meaningful deaths, and doesn't

water down, too much, the despairing tone.

Robin 2018 feels so dumb I wouldn't be surpised if they had a meeting or a two about renaming

the Sheriff of Nottingham, because his name was too confusing – what about Dean?

What about Gauleiter?

What about Badly Greedson Deadmort?

It's as subtle as the Cliff notes for Braveheart.

Of course they didn't, but when you have a two hour film produced by Leonardo Re – DiCaprio,

starring Bono's daughter.

That looks like a videogame promo they did on the cheap with sets from 1999 but cost

$100 million dollars, that has archers with arrow machineguns, that literally runs out

of steam after 95 minutes so turns into a heist movie….

I guess you wonder not what they were thinking, but if they were thinking.

Robin Hood is not a story a young audience cannot grasp.

What makes it frustrating, like I said at the beginning, is technically the film is

often fine.

It looks good.

It's been put together by professional editors.

The sound recordist – he was there on the day.

He or she – they recorded all the sound.

Maybe there's some interesting action here, but I don't think it's in anyway redeeming.

The acting is terrible, but I have to place all blame on the director and producers – really

no one directed this.

This is a product that was shat out.

If they wanted to make it fit into modern social values – and I don't think they

had to, I think teens can understand that things were different a thousand years ago,

but also You can set things in the past and make them work with contemporary characters

with contemporary problems – by making them fun.

Robin Hood 2018 is not fun.

If they didn't want to do a serious, actually about Robin Hood, Robin hood movie, they could

have done something like Maid Marian And Her Merry Men.

Sheriff: Are you mad?

But emulating that would require not only wit but will.

And you know, I know this sounds bitter, but I hope this really hurts Lionsgate.

Only then will they learn, and I guess even then probably not, that this sort of condescending

excuse for a big budget film is not appealing to any audience.

No audience wants to be talked to like children, even if they are children.

Good effort by Tim Minchin though.

It was revealed somewhat abruptly by Candace Buckner this morning that Washington Wizards guard John Wall won't be playing in Atlanta tonight for "personal reasons.

" Buckner is a reporter for the Washington Post who covers the Wizards.

It'll be the first game Wall has missed this year, and it hasn't been yet revealed what the personal matter is that he'll be attending to.

It's also unclear just how long the absence will be, or if he'll be missing more games than just this one.

Hopefully everything's okay in Wall's personal life, and the absence could be career-related given the hefty amounts of drama coming out of this Wizards team of late.

This is total speculation, but in light of trade rumors surrounding Wall and his obvious frustration with the team, it could go either way.
