Youtube daily report May 23 2017

Survey telescopes

are designed to scan large areas of the sky

quickly and deeply,

looking for the rarest and most interesting astronomical objects.

They use the latest technology on their scouting missions

and produce huge amounts of data.

ESO's two dedicated survey telescopes

are at work every clear night,

carefully mapping the southern skies, piece by piece.

This is the ESOcast!

Cutting-edge science

and life behind the scenes at ESO,

The European Southern Observatory.

VISTA and the VST

two powerful survey telescopes

VISTA, the Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy,

and the VST, the VLT Survey Telescope.

Both telescopes

are located at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile

and they are arguably

the most powerful dedicated imaging survey telescopes

in the world.

Survey telescopes look for needles in haystacks

rare astronomical objects

such as potentially dangerous near-Earth asteroids,

hidden clusters,

exploding stars and remote quasars.

Unlike larger telescopes,

which concentrate on tiny parts of the sky

in extreme detail,

VISTA and the VST

study broad areas of the sky.

The resulting surveys

produce huge archives of scientific data

and pickup many interesting objects

these can then be studied in greater detail

by much larger telescopes

such as the neighboring VLT

VISTA has a main mirror 4.1 metres across,

making it by far the largest telescope in the world

dedicated to surveying the sky

at near-infrared wavelengths.

Moreover,

it is equipped with a state-of-the-art

67-megapixel camera

with the widest coverage

of any astronomical near-infrared camera.

VISTA began operations in 2010

and it can observe the sky with a sensitivity

that is 40 times greater

than that achieved with earlier survey telescopes.

By observing in infrared light,

VISTA can study objects

that may be impossible to see in visible light

because they are cool

obscured by dust clouds

or because their light has been stretched

or redshifted away from the visible spectrum.

The VST

is a state-of-the-art 2.6-metre telescope

equipped with a monster 268-megapixel CCD camera

with a field of view four times the area of the full Moon.

The VST surveys the visible-light night sky .

and complements VISTA's near-infrared sight

VISTA and the VST

produce immense quantities of survey data

and hugely increase the scientific discovery potential

of the Paranal Observatory.

The data is stored in vast archives of images

and catalogues of objects

that can be picked over by astronomers

for decades to come.

The survey telescopes will play a vital role

in preparing the way for future facilities.

Some of their discoveries

will be targets for much more detailed study

using the future European Extreme Large Telescope

ESO's survey telescopes

will continue to map the sky in the finest detail.

What they find

will help to tackle some of the most exciting problems

in astrophysics today

including the structure of the Milky Way

and the nature of the mysterious dark matter

and dark energy.

Breast augmentation,Breast Reduction-Correcting methods for asymmetric breast-Dr.Cortes - Duration: 7:00.

Hi, this is Dr. Hourglass, and welcome to another video in our channel Wonder Breasts.

Today we are going to discuss: Correction methods for asymmetric breasts.

In this channel we discuss everything related to breast surgery.

Welcome back!

A significant number of women are looking at plastic surgery interventions because

they have asymmetrical breasts.

Be that as it may, it is important to remember that by nature, breasts are not perfectly symmetrical.

One breast is usually bigger than the other and this affects more than half of all women.

Usually, the asymmetries are more visible after pregnancy or other traumatic events

that changes the size, volume and shape of the breasts.

If the differences in the size and volume of the breasts are quite significant, if breast ptosis

is inordinately severe or if one of the breasts might be sagging more than the other,

or the nipple and areola complex are considerably asymmetric in shape, size and position,

it might be time to seek surgical intervention as highly visible asymmetries can lead to

body dissatisfaction and result in low self- esteem and distressing body image.

Unfortunately, not all the asymmetries can be corrected with the help of plastic surgery intervention.

Still, there are certain asymmetries that can be corrected and improved such as the following:

- Volume asymmetries can be corrected in two ways:

a breast reduction surgery wherein the larger breast is reduced to a size closer to the other breast

considered to have the more optimal size and shape;

or by inserting an implant in the smaller breast to bring it up to the size of the other breast.

In most cases, when the breasts are small, it is better to have implants in both breasts,

but of different volumes.

Using fat transfer to the breasts, aside from the breast implant, can further correct this imperfection

and give the breasts a nicer, more natural looking shape and feel.

- Asymmetries of the dimensions of the areolas can be easily corrected during a breast lift,

augmentation or reduction procedure.

Many patients are aware that their breasts will never be completely symmetrical so it is quite natural for them

to wonder how beneficent a surgical procedure can be.

Due to the numerous types of asymmetries and the different responses of the body

during the healing process, there are no guarantees when it comes to achieving the perfect breasts.

It may even be necessary for the patient to go through two surgical stages

in cases where significant corrections are needed.

The plastic surgeon will thoroughly discuss this with the patient prior to scheduling of the first intervention.

As a patient, it is important to keep in mind that you may need to be available and willing to undergo

more than one procedure to achieve optimal results.

In this video, we discussed Correction methods for asymmetric breasts.

Next week we will discuss: Surgery for breast asymmetries.

You have to show some cajones.

Mom, dad, family...

I'm a faggot!

What are you going to do about it?

Mom what's a fag?

How to behave around a black person

I reccomend that everyone has one or two black friends.

Then the ladies see that you are not prejudices and they dig it.

also reccomend having a Asian friend...

How I read so much [CC] - Duration: 9:08.

Hey guys, it's Kirsti, welcome back to my

channel. Today, I want to do a little bit

of an update on a video that I made

probably, like, 18 months ago and that is

about how I read so much. The original

video was called "How I read 290 books in

9 months", and I have a love-hate

relationship with that video. When I made

that video, I had about 300 subscribers.

And the vast majority of them were

people from the We Blog We Vlog

community as it was then - it's now the

WeVlog Collective. But they were mostly

VEDA people and I knew all of them,

because it was a VEDA thing - we watch each

other's videos all the time.

I had basically just started doing

Booktube as, like, that was what I was

going to do with my channel.

I think I'd made about 3 or 4 weekly

wrap ups when I decided I was going to

make that video. So when I made that

video, I was talking very specifically to

those 300 people, all of whom I was

friends with. I definitely never

anticipated that that video would become

my most viewed video - I think it's now

got something like 16,000 views?

Which is ridiculous because if you look

at the videos on either side of it,

they have like 90 views or 300 views or

something like that, and then you've got this one in

the middle. And the comments that I

get on that video even now just

frustrate the absolute shit out of me,

because the comments that I get tend to

go one of a few different ways. I either

get the "how many pages an hour do you

read?" comment. I get the "you're lying"

comment. I get the "you must be reading,

like, nothing but graphic novels and

picture books" comment. I get the "you're

reading wrong, let me tell you how"

comment. And I get the "you mustn't be

married and have children" comment. So I

kind of want to do a little bit of an

update on how I read and the ways that I

read because, again, I'm on track to read

more than 400 books this year and it

freaks my students out, I think, to know

that I read more books than there are

days in the year and that I've already

read more books than there are [have been] days in

the year because they just... they can't

quite process that. And it seems like a

lot of people who watch my videos feel

the same way. So I want to preface all of

this by saying that my intention in

making this video is not to be, like, look

at me, I'm so great, look how many books I

read. I'm literally trying to explain how

I do it, because people constantly ask me

how I do it.

Similarly, I'm not trying to tell you how

to read more and how to be a reader like

me because I'm up on this pedestal. I'm not

anywhere. I don't give a flying fuck how

many books other people read. If you read

more than me, great. If you read one book

a year, that's awesome! I'm super proud of

you for reading. Like, you do you, I'm

gonna stick with my lane, okay? Cool. So

there are three key things to understand

here. The first one is that I am

naturally an incredibly fast reader. As I

said in that video, I have always been a

reader. I taught myself to read when I

was 3 or 4, my earliest memory is of

reading. I do not experience book

hangovers. I do not really experience

slumps. Like, my version of a slump is

a week where I read five or six books. I

also never go a single day without

reading. Like, it boggles my mind that

people can do that. To me, reading is like

breathing. It's just something that you

have to do to survive. I can't get to

sleep at night if I don't read. I feel

wrong if I don't read. So reading is

something that, like, I basically

physically have to read to survive.

That's a little bit melodramatic, I know.

But that's kind of how it works for me.

So yeah. I'm an incredibly fast reader.

When I read, I don't have to break down

words into their kind of individual

chunks.

I don't read words as single words when

I'm reading. I read, like, three-quarters

of a line of text at once. So when I'm

reading, if you watch my eyes when I'm

reading, my eyes move once across each

line of the page. Particularly if I'm

reading on my Kindle. I read faster than

if I'm reading in print form. If the

print is small or if it's nonfiction, I

do read a little bit slower but on the

whole, my eyes move, like, once per line. So

it takes me probably like 20 seconds to

finish a page. And no, I'm not speed

reading.

I'm not skimming. That is just naturally

how I read. In addition to being a

naturally fast reader, I am always

reading multiple books at a time. I never

have just one book on the go. So at the

moment, I'm reading three books at

present, I'm about to start a fourth one

as well. So I usually have three to

four books on the go. So there's usually

one non-fiction book and a classic and

then I've got, like, a new book and a

reread, usually.

It's a bit different at the moment

because I'm doing a readathon, so the

rereads have kind of fallen by the

wayside in favour of all of the books I

have to read for the readathon. I do

read picture books, but I don't count

them towards my reading challenge. For

those of you who don't know, I am a

school librarian. I work in a library

that is Prep to 12, so we have kids from

the age of 5 to 18 and, you know, I do

library stuff all day. So sometimes I do

read picture books as I'm shelving them,

or I skim through the graphic novels. But

I don't count those towards my reading

goal because, like, they don't count as

books that I've read, I was just kind of

skimming them for fun before I stuck them

on the shelf, I didn't sit down and

actually actively want to read that book,

if that makes sense. So I have no idea how

many pages I read an hour. It honestly

depends on the kind of book that I'm

reading. If I'm reading nonfiction, it's

probably, like, 60 to 80 pages an hour. If

I'm reading fiction, particularly young

adult fiction, it can be up to 200 pages

an hour, probably more. If I'm reading

classics, it's a bit slower, if I'm

reading rereads, it's sometimes a little bit

faster depending on what the reread is.

All I can tell you is that I read 90

pages of Jane Eyre in half an hour on

the tram, so do with that information

what you will. The second thing that you

have to understand is I make time for

reading. I think this is a thing that a

lot of people struggle with. They seem to

just think that, like, you know, reading is

just a thing that happens. But it's like

anything else: you have to make time to

do it you have to want to do it. It's not

just something that happens magically.

Like, if you want to play football, you

go out and play football. You don't just

sit at home going "Oh man, I wish I could

play more football...", you fucking go and do

it. Like, as I said, I literally cannot go

a day without reading. It makes me feel

icky and wrong and I cannot sleep if I do

that. Even when I am insanely jet-lagged

or insanely busy, I still read like 50

pages a day because that's just what I

need to do. So when it comes to reading, I

probably read for about three hours a

day. It takes me an hour each way to

get to work on public transport.

I read the whole way there, I read the

whole way home. I have 12 reading classes a

fortnight and I read during those

classes. Like, I talk to the kids for 15

minutes and then I help them find books

and then I read for probably, like, 25

minutes or so. So I have that time. I read

on my lunch break. I sometimes read when

I get home from work

if I'm really sucked into the plot of a

book, I will, like, read it while I make a

snack before I go and work out and I

read for like half an hour, 45 minutes

before I go to sleep at night. So all

of that over the course of the day adds up to

probably, like, three to three and a half

hours of reading time.

So yeah, if you're reading for 21 to 28

hours a week and you naturally read fast,

you're going to get through a fuckton of stuff.

And the third thing that you need to

understand is that I am a massive

introvert. Like, I think a lot of people

think that I do all of this reading and

I also have, like, a really active social

life. Yeah, no. I really really don't. I

cannot emphasise enough how much I do

not have a social life. I have a bunch of

family events every month and then I

have, like, maybe two or three actual

social events that I attend every month.

Other than that, I am at home in my

pyjamas reading a goddamn book. Because

if you say that there is scale of

introversion from, like, extrovert to

introvert? I am here. I am literally here. I

am at the extreme end of introvert. And

working in a library you may think is

great for introverted people. But no. It is

effectively a customer-service role and

you are dealing with people all day.

I have 1200 students that I deal with on

a daily basis as well as probably, like,

200 staff. At the end of the day, I don't

want to talk to anybody ever again. I

need to go home and sit in the dark and

recharge my batteries or I cannot

function the next day. And reading

is what helps me do that. So all of that

basically boils down to "I read a lot

because a) I read fast, b) I make time for

it, and c) I hate people". So, like, if you

want to read more?

Stop going places and make time for

reading. I can't help you with reading

any faster. Maybe try audiobooks. They

don't work for me, but they might work

for you. If you have any questions about

any of this, please let me know down in

the comments, I would love to talk about

it with you. Do you read multiple books

at a time? Are you strictly a one book at

a time kind of a person? Do you find you

read faster on an e-reader than you do

in physical form?

Do you like audiobooks? Do you hate

audiobooks? Personally I hate them. They

don't work for me, it's not my thing.

Do you love them? If you do, let me know

what you love about them and how

the narrator impacts on your love of them.

Because I've tried a couple of

audiobooks and, like, one of them I could

not physically stand the narrator and I

gave up about two minutes in and the

other narrator was Lin-Manuel Miranda,

so of course I loved it... Thank you guys

so much for watching,

I love all your faces and I'll see you on Friday.

Bye guys.

Vampire Facial - What you Need To Know Before You Go Under the Needle - Duration: 13:19.

I want to suck your blood

Hi everybody it's Alex I am really excited today because

we're going to the spa I am going to Sadhna

wellness in Jericho New York they got in

touch with me and they want to give me a

vampire facial so that's the facial that

you might remember that Kim Kardashian

got where her whole face was covered

in blood so that's what we're doing

today that's gonna happen to my face

Dr "we gonna first aspirate the poor one away

we gonna just be using on top of your face

the glider for the micro-needling and

the rich one will be injected into your

lines" my face is totally numb we put

some numbing cream on my face after we

washed it then we took some blood out of

my arm and now the blood is spinning in

the machine over there and then it's

going to get injected into my face, sounds legitimate

that's my blood spinning around - Dr "doing

anything?" just like a little pinprick

nothing intense - Dr "it's tolerable right?"

yeah - Dr "feel anything?" not really I mean it

just kind of feels like vibrating like it's not painful

like it sounds like it should be

okay so we're all done

I'm obviously like red in places and

I'm still very frozen like it's

weird to move his face but it didn't

really hurt yeah so now I'm going to be

kind of bread and sunburned looking for

like a day or two and then kind of like

sandpapery is the all the little holes

he'll but then I'll be the gorgeous

beautiful brand-new face person okay so

it's been like four hours since the

treatment ended and as you can see I'm

still pretty red I'm so red I'm so very red

this is the kind of thing that you're

not going to want to go out right afterwards

I'm definitely staying home tonight and

I'm going to binge watch some Netflix

okay guys so it's officially 24 hours

since I had the procedure done and as

you can see my forehead is a bit crazy

town right now the rest of my face is

totally fine I have this one little pimple

that came out of nowhere I don't know if that's

related probably but generally speaking

this is good and this is like crazy so

the good people at Sadhna provided me

with these treatments so one is a

cleanser I've used that only once the repair

cream has hyaluronic acid in it so used

it once yesterday and then again today

the third thing that they gave me is

called restore so this is a bit more of

a moisturizer so I used this a bunch

yesterday and their

suggestions on what to do they say

you know apply it every two hours for

the first 24 hours so I try to keep to

that and then I'm using again today the

last thing that they gave me is a

protection so this is a tinted SPF it's

kind of cool actually like pumps out then you

just like put it on your skin so it's

like one color fits all and I don't know

if it's exactly me but the important

thing is that you're not really supposed

to go out and sunshine right now so

while your face is healing you need to

be wearing hats and having sun

protection and wearing SPF after I used

this steps one two and three my face

still feels kind of dry so I've been

using this avocado oil just as a

moisturizer all over which has been

really soothing and actually made it

feel a lot better so if you don't know

what a homeopathic remedy kit is it's

all these little homeopathic vials and

if you go through the book they tell you

you know if you're suffering from

whatever to use each of these it tells

you which ones to use so the one that I

use is arnica which is good for bruising

because they said I would be getting

some bruising and the other one that I

took because it was for like cuts and

wounds and I figured that that's kind of

what I did to myself on purpose I'm kind

of thankful that really only the

forehead and a little bit right here is

where the worst of it is and that's

because the skin here is really fine and

thin and it's right against the bone

they did a couple of deeper injections

with the PRP which is the blood platelets

into the lines in my forehead to I

don't know make them go away

more so it's Monday morning I am ready

for work

I had to definitely put some makeup on

this morning because ya didn't want to go

to work looks like that the girl did say

that if you have acne that

it can kind of like make it a

lot worse so if you're somebody who has

active acne the vampire facial is not

for you but so I was getting a bunch of

weird kind of like whitehead so I went

back to my regular Rodan + Fields acne

regimen for like my eyes and below and

then it did say to use like this product

so the tinted moisturizer I put it on it

didn't really provide any coverage

really so I went with my regular

Foundation which is Arbonne and so this

is good because they actually said to

use mineral based foundation and this is

a mineral based foundation so I hope

it's not that bad when I did all my

research online about the vampire facial

it seemed like the recovery time was

real low it would be you know no downtime

really so this feels like downtime and

if I didn't have to go to work today I

probably wouldn't it's Tuesday morning

and my face is still crazy yesterday

afternoon I noticed some super dryness

kind of around these areas and then last night

kind of this section and this section

has gotten really dry it feels like this

whole piece of skin just needs to like

come off I talked to the doctor

at Sadhna Wellness yesterday and he

said that that was pretty normal and I

should just continue to use the regimen

that they gave me and it would be fine

in a couple of days okay so all of this

area is super super dry and like peeling

and flaking and this area is doing that

times like a hundred so I moisturized I

sunscreened I primered I tinted

moisturized and then I foundationed and then

I powdered so much stuff this is like 10

times more makeup than I normally wear

on a regular day I'm like a Monet good

from far but far from good

it's Wednesday morning I'm getting ready

for work again and thankfully this is

mostly cleared up all of the peeling from

yesterday is pretty much done there's

still like a little bit on the you know

outskirts of the forehead but like

everything else seems to be well

moisturized because I've been

moisturizing like crazy I also did a lot

of exfoliating and picking which maybe I

shouldn't have been doing but when

there's on your face to pick, you pick it

what have been noticing is that having

this happen on my face

has kicked up a lot of emotional dirt

and by that I mean I'm super

self-conscious about it I'm thinking

about it all the time I'm wondering if it's

showing I'm wondering if when I'm

talking to people people are looking at

it I spent a lot of years with acne and

eczema and I have realized that for the

last like six months I haven't have a

single breakout I didn't really realize

how great that actually is until now

because now that I have this to deal

with which thankfully today should be

pretty easy to cover up I didn't realize

how great it is not to have to think

about the state of my skin check the

link below I'm going to share the

products that I've been using I've used

so many different products I've used

all-natural and I've used super chemical

and so this falls somewhere in

between but it actually works ok guys

it's Thursday morning this is the first

day this week that I feel like my face

actually looks kind of normal

I'm still waiting for the amazing

fantastic baby skin that

I'm you know expecting to get out of this

process to come through so maybe

tomorrow it's Friday morning and today is

the first day where I feel like I can go

to work without a ton of face makeup on

generally what's been happening is that

as soon as I put the face makeup on

I realize that my face is still peeling

like crazy so today I just moisturized

using the Sadhna wellness treatment kit

and that's it a little bit of eye makeup and I'm

done still waiting for the fabulous

amazing transformation that I'm supposed

to see from this it's like what was the

point of the facial my face kind of

looks the same as it did before so I'm

going to reserve my final judgement for

when this actually feels healed it has

officially been 10 days since I had the

famous vampire facial so I want to share

my final result

full disclosure I got this treatment for

free this treatment normally cost

upwards of the hundreds of dollars I

don't know exactly how much I've seen

different prices online but it is a

costly procedure the people at

Sadhna were amazing they were really

nice super professional everything about

the experience with Sadhna itself was

great

the facility is brand new it's very

clean they were very clean and what they

were doing and I was kind of nervous

about getting a bunch of needles stabbed

into my face the esthetician the doctor

they answered all of my questions they

actually called and checked up on me to

make sure how my healing was going it

was really easy to get to I thought it

was going to be a disaster but it was

actually really really easy it's right off the highway the vampire facial

it'self I'm a little bit on the fence about

how I feel about it obviously the

recovery time was a lot longer than I

expected it to be and a lot more intense

then I expected it to be if I had just

had the facial and then could have taken

a little week off of life and just sat

home then maybe I wouldn't have cared so

much but because I had to cover it up

everyday and go out into the real world

I did not enjoy the recovery time and

I'm told that my recovery time was a

little bit worse than normal because

they did so much extra on my forehead

that's what it took so long but I still

had a lot of the peeling and the

discoloration on the rest of my skin as

well so just think about that if you're

considering this you know you're gonna

have to recover for a couple of days if

I wanted to be hyper critical about the

two lines on my forehead I could say

that those do seem a little bit less

intense than they were before

but generally speaking my skin kind of

feels the same I don't know if it was

all worth it somebody said I had to take

two or three more of these treatments to

actually see the results I say no thank

you

I'm pretty happy with my face the way it

is and wasn't really unhappy with my

face before I had the procedure I just

thought it would be fun and cool and

something that I could share with you

guys you know and it was something I

could share with you guys if you want to

see more spa related stuff let me know

in the comments below if you've had a

vampire facial and have your own results

that you want to share definitely let me

know I want to hear how everybody else

fared with this procedure I hope that

this was helpful to you I hope that it

was helpful for you in making a decision

about getting a vampire facial I hope

that you realize that you're beautiful

inside and out whether you've had a

vampire facial or not

you don't need to do anything to be

beautiful you just are beautiful no

matter what and I love you see you next

time

TOKYO APARTMENT TOUR - NAKANO - Duration: 2:51.

Hey guys, it's Reida and good morning

so I'm about to leave and go to Osaka

but before then I want to do a quick

tour of my Airbnb

this is our front door

and I don't have any shelves

or anything for your shoes

because it's just so small here

and as soon as you come in

you have your bathroom to the left

so the toilet

and the bath is not separated here

again, it's so small

then to your right we have the kitchen

here we only have one burner

and then a small sink

a little drying rack + for storage as well

and this cabinet

below you just have your little mini fridge

and more storage

when you walk in here it's basically like a small living room

we have a fridge right here

which is pretty small

but a good size for one person

Kassidy: A really good size I think

we have our trash there and separated

but this place has an aircon

Kassidy: which we couldn't figure out how to use

yeah we have no idea how to use it

but we have a light remote

remote for the aircon

I don't have it open but there's the window

so it really is pretty small

and there's our couch

we actually have a loft

but this is it, it's tall enough to where i can actually stand

and it has an outlet right there

when you look over you can see the living room

and yeah, it's tiny

you can see the suitcase and

the little fridge for comparison

and the couch

but this is pretty much it

this is the place I've been staying in the past few days

it worked pretty well we actually

made a big mess

because of all of our shopping

but it's a good space for like, one person

maybe two

but one the most

I have no idea how much this place actually costs but

I wouldn't mind living here

Kassidy: it's 5 minutes to the nearest local station

Kassidy: which is really really good

K: and also we're on the other side of Nakano Broadway

K: so in terms of location this is actually pretty good

K: um yeah so...I thought it was pretty good

K: the ladder is kind of dangerous (lol)

yeah so because of the location

it's probably a bit pricey

but I've always wanted a loft

except now

I'm like "Oh, this is kind of dangerous, I don't know"

like, I really want you know, an upstairs and downstairs

but we'll see how that goes

in the future

but yeah that was the apartment, I hope you like it

we're kind of in a rush

so hopefully this isnt too bad

but there's not much to show

so bye guys!

OH, Phantom thieves, you made it.

Course you did why wouldn't you?

I suppose congratulations are in order for making it through my mirror maze.

It was supposed to kill you, not me a minor inconvenience.

FUCK

why can't I get anything right?

I mean seriously, why do I bother, every time I try to do something it blows up in my face.

Nothing I do ever seems to work out, I have to rely on others to do my work for me,

and when ever I try something for the first time I never get it right, while everyone else does.

Sure if at first you don't succeed and all that but after a while it just isn't worth it,

all I ask for is for something in my life to go right and a little recognition.

You're here for my treasure right? Unfortunately for you that's the only thing I have left that hasn't gone wrong

and if you think I'm just going to hand it over to you then you've got another thing coming.

I guess I can try one more time, try and be the first person to kill the Phantom thieves!"

Franken Blasts GOP Health Care Bill As Vicious And Cruel - Duration: 27:02.

I rise today to talk about the health care bill that the House of Representatives has

passed and is currently being considered behind closed doors by my Republican colleagues.

I travel around Greater Minnesota all the time.

And when the Republican health care plan first came out, I traveled to rural Minnesota to

meet with rural hospitals, nursing home providers, and constituents to hear how this bill would

impact their lives and communities.

They are upset and they are, frankly, scared.

In Perham, Minnesota, I heard from a woman who was in tears, not knowing where her mother

would go if the Republican plan passed and she lost her nursing home coverage.

This woman and her husband work full-time, but together they cannot afford the round-the-clock

care that her mother needs.

Later, at a nursing home in Moorhead, I also heard from a resident, Chrysann, who said

this new plan wasn't about taking care of people, but about, "survival of the fittest."

The hospitals and nursing home administrators I met with said the financial blow they'd

receive would cause them to cut services and, in some cases, even close their doors.

What I heard—and the real panic that I saw—is a far cry from what President Trump promised

this past January when he said, "We're going to have insurance for everybody."

And he went on to say it would be, "much less expensive and much better."

Versions of these promises keep coming—from President Trump, from his Cabinet, and from

his allies in Congress.

Coverage for more people, at lower cost, with better quality.

Those things all sound great—things that might help people like Chrysann.

But the fact is that the Republican bill does the exact opposite.

It takes coverage away from people, it drives up costs, and it makes coverage worse.

In other words, the GOP is selling its health care bill on false pretenses.

Today, I'd like to explain how the Republican bill betrays each of these three fundamental

promises.

Let's take them one by one.

We can start with the number of people that will be covered.

President Trump promised that everyone would have insurance.

But an analysis of an earlier version of the House health care bill

conducted by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office found that, compared to current

law, the House Republican plan would leave 24 million fewer people with health insurance

by 2026.

That means that by 2026, nearly 1 in 5 Americans under the age of 65 would be uninsured, compared

to just over one in ten today.

One particular way that the Republican bill cuts coverage is by gutting Medicaid, a program

that covers more than 60 percent of all nursing home residents nationwide, covers kids with

disabilities, and benefits nearly 70 million Americans.

The Republican bill ends the Medicaid expansion, fundamentally undermines the basic structure

of the Medicaid program, and cuts the program's budget by as much as a quarter over ten years—a

more than $800 billion cut.

On May 7, journalist Jake Tapper of CNN asked Health Human Services Secretary Tom Price

whether the hundreds of billions in proposed cuts would result in millions of Americans

not getting Medicaid.

Secretary Price responded, "Absolutely not."

Well, that's absolutely false.

And when I say that absolutely, I mean that literally.

It doesn't take an expert to know that if you take funding away from this program, which

provides health coverage for millions of Americans, that program suffers.

And the human beings who rely on Medicaid will suffer as well.

Specifically, according to the CBO, 14 million of those 24 million people who will lose coverage

under the Republican bill would lose their health insurance because of cuts to Medicaid.

It's bad enough to push a bill that would take care away from millions who need it.

It's extra galling to be so fundamentally dishonest about it in the process.

Look, the Affordable Act is far from perfect, and we've got problems that need to be fixed.

But let's step back and review how far we've come because of the ACA.

Since it came into effect, about 20 million Americans have gained health insurance coverage,

producing the lowest uninsured rate in the history of this country in 2016.

In Minnesota, the number of uninsured dropped by nearly half, with people in rural areas

seeing the largest gains in coverage.

And, as a result, we have eliminated the gap in coverage between rural and urban Minnesotans.

These coverage gains have increased access to vital health services, including access

to treatment for mental illness and substance use disorders.

But the Republican health care plan throws all of these gains into jeopardy, which is

particularly troubling given the country is still in the midst of battling a devastating

opioid and heroin epidemic.

Researchers estimate that 2.8 million Americans with substance use disorders would lose some

or all of their insurance coverage under ACA repeal.

Let's be clear.

People will lose coverage as a result of the proposed Medicaid cuts.

People will lose coverage because of the proposed insurance reforms.

And tens of millions of people would be uninsured and without care under the Republican plan

than under current law.

Okay, let's move on to the second point: the assertion, repeated constantly by President

Trump and many others, that their bill brings down costs.

In his Rose Garden celebration after the Republican health care bill passed the House, President

Trump said, "as far as I'm concerned, your premiums they are going to start to come

down."

When Secretary Price was asked, again by Jake Tapper, if he stands by the President's

statement, he responded, "Absolutely."

On an earlier date, Secretary Price actually said, "nobody will be worse off financially,"

under the Republican plan.

This is just blatantly wrong.

Republicans are actively sabotaging the individual market, needlessly driving up premiums in

the short-term; and in the long-term, what they're doing will result in exorbitant

premium hikes for older, sicker people—so much so that CBO estimates that some will

eventually drop out of the market all together.

Let me explain.

For years, Republicans have taken deliberate steps to sabotage the individual market.

First, Senator Rubio rammed through a last-minute change to the 2015 spending bill that undercut

the risk corridor program.

The risk corridor program, which was modeled after a similar program in the Medicare Part

D program, was included as part of the ACA to offset high costs incurred by insurers

as they took on new enrollees in the early years of the ACA.

Here's how it worked—the federal government would make payments to health plans that enrolled

a group of people that were sicker than expected and had higher health care costs than the

insurer predicted when it set its premiums.

On the flip side, the federal government would receive payments from health plans that enrolled

a group of people that were healthier than expected and needed less care.

By limiting losses incurred by insurers, the risk corridor program was designed to help

make premiums more affordable for individuals and families who bought coverage on the exchange.

But Senator Rubio's provision undercut all of this.

It severely curtailed the payments that could be made under the risk corridor program, which

meant that premiums soared and health insurers left the market.

For example, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota lost about $220 million dollars

between 2014 and 2016 under the weakened risk corridor program—which the CEO told me in

a meeting late last spring was a huge setback for the company.

I was dismayed—but not surprised—when I heard shortly after our meeting that the

company was leaving the individual market, which affected coverage for more than 100,000

Minnesotans and contributed to average premium increases of 36 to 67 percent in Minnesota's

individual market in 2017.

Insurers across the country faced similar, destabilizing losses.

But that's not all.

On top of that, for months, President Trump has been doing his part to sow uncertainty

by repeatedly arguing that the individual market is in a death spiral.

For example, on May 4th, in response to Aetna's exit from the individual market in Virginia

in 2018, President Trump shouted on Twitter, "death spiral!"

This is similar to his post on March 13th in which he said, "Obamacare is imploding.

It's a disaster and 2017 will be the worst year yet, by far!"

But he's wrong—even the CBO noted in one of its scores that barring any significant

changes, the individual market would probably be stable in most areas.

This confirms what other research has found which is that, this year, markets were starting

to stabilize, which lead Standard & Poor's to issue a report last December predicting

that 2017 could see, "continued improvement, with more insurers getting close to breakeven

or better."

But this didn't faze President Trump or any of the Republicans.

Instead, they seem to have used these reports as a guidebook on what changes are necessary

to actually cause the individual market to collapse.

For example, President Trump has been playing games with payments that are due to insurance

companies that reduce out-of-pocket costs for working families.

On numerous occasions, he's threatened to stop these payments altogether, but in practice,

he's been holding these payments hostage on a month-to-month basis to push forward

other insidious reforms.

Just yesterday, his administration announced that it would seek another short-term delay

in the House's lawsuit, which aims to stop these payments permanently.

These games are driving up premiums for families and rattling health insurance markets.

And lastly, the administration has stopped enforcing the individual mandate.

As a result, we are seeing enrollment in the individual market stall for the first time

since 2010, and if this results in younger, healthier people dropping their coverage,

we could see prices rise dramatically for those left behind.

That's right.

President Trump and the Republicans are actively attacking the insurance markets, causing premiums

to go up.

So if these markets falter and consumers suffer, it is because of what Republicans are doing

right now and have been doing for years to undermine the individual market.

Still, you will often hear Republicans talk about the need to reduce costs.

They even claim that their proposed health care plan would lower premiums in the long-run.

For millions of Americans, it's not true.

But the reason why it's untrue is slightly complicated.

It goes to the CBO report for the Republican health care plan.

The March 13th CBO score says that average premiums for single people in the individual

market would be 15 to 20 percent higher than under current law in the first two years of

implementation.

But it does say that they would be roughly 10 percent lower in 2026 under the House bill

than what they would be under current law.

At first blush, that sounds like prices coming down for people, right?

That's certainly what Republican leadership wants you to think.

That day, House Speaker Paul Ryan stated, "This report confirms that the American

Health Care Act will lower premiums and improve access to quality, affordable care."

And House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy got more specific: he said, "After ten years,

premiums will be 10% lower than under Obamacare."

But Speaker Ryan and Majority Leader McCarthy are being deliberately misleading.

One of the reasons that average costs go down is that the price for some people would go

up so much that they couldn't afford any insurance at all.

If the people facing the most expensive insurance simply drop out of the market, sure, average

costs go down.

Here's how this works.

Under the Republican plan, insurers would be able to charge older enrollees five times

more than younger ones, which would dramatically increase premiums for people ages 50 to 64

years old while decreasing premiums for younger people.

Meanwhile, the tax credits that help older Americans afford their premiums would be drastically

slashed.

The result is that, especially for older people of modest means, coverage would become unaffordable.

So they'd disappear from the market.

If only younger, healthier people can buy insurance, average premiums go down, but you've

actually made the system much worse and more expensive for people who really need it.

But that's not all.

The Republican plan would also allow states to waive crucial protections for patients

with pre-existing conditions, which means that, in those states, we could go back to

something like the old days when insurance companies could charge people with pre-existing

conditions more—potentially as much as $25,000 more for their coverage, as estimated by AARP.

Republicans are quick to point out that their bill maintains the requirement that insurance

companies have to offer plans to everyone.

But it abandons the principle that the plans must be affordable.

And an unaffordable plan does you about as much good as no plan at all.

If you're young, if you have no pre-existing condition, it might be true that your premiums

would go down under the Republican plan.

For millions of Americans, though, if the Republican bill passes, insurance costs are

going to go up.

For many people, they'll go up so high that they're out of reach.

That brings us to the third claim the Republicans are peddling: that their plan will result

in higher quality coverage.

In fact, Republicans want to open the door to junk insurance.

In defending the House Republican plan, Secretary Price recently stated that the plan allows,

"for every single person to get the access to the kind of coverage that they want."

We've heard this before.

This is code for allowing insurers to offer garbage insurance plans that offer skimpy

benefit packages and impose much higher deductibles and cost-sharing on consumers.

Under the Affordable Care Act, you can't sell junk plans on the insurance exchanges.

Plans have to cover the essential health benefits: ten key categories of benefits like prescription

drugs, maternity care, and mental health services.

And on top of that, the law prohibits insurers from imposing annual or life-time limits on

these essential health benefits.

The goal is to make sure that when people get sick or if they have a pre-existing condition,

they don't go broke getting the care they need because of fine print in their health

insurance plan.

The Republican bill would allow states to eliminate these essential health benefits.

Consumers would be left with plans that leave them up a creek if they actually get sick.

Nobody would call that "better care."

Which is why Republicans aren't being straight about it.

What they call flexibility is actually just the removal of consumer protections.

So, to review, the Republican plan covers fewer people, costs too many people more,

and provides worse coverage.

And it's being sold by misleading people on each of those points.

Now, it's not as though there aren't ways to cover more people, reduce costs, and provide

better coverage.

You could do a public option, for example.

You could reduce prescription drug costs—an issue on which I recently introduced a comprehensive

bill.

You could improve coverage by increasing the number of health care providers in rural areas,

as I proposed last year in my rural health bill.

But the Republican plan does none of these things.

Which raises the question: what does it do?

Why would anyone take the time to propose such a terrible bill?

And the answer is, it gives a giant tax cut to the wealthy.

That's the real point of this bill.

It's not a health care bill.

It's a take-health-care-away-from-people-who-need-it and use-the-money-to-give-a-tax-break-to-the-rich

bill.

As Chrysann said, it's about "survival of the fittest."

The average tax savings for the 400 richest Americans under the Republican plan?

Seven million dollars each.

Seven million each!

For households earning a million dollars or more a year, it's more than $50,000 apiece

each year.

And for households earning $50,000 a year, which is about the median household income

in the United States?

The tax cut is next to nothing, or you could even face a tax increase.

There are tax cuts specifically for insurance company CEOs.

There are tax cuts specifically for drug companies.

There's nothing comparable for the middle class.

And all of those tax cuts are paid for by cutting health care programs that keep people

alive.

By cutting off funding that lets seniors age with dignity.

By cutting services for kids with disabilities.

This bill would take us back in time and roll back our progress.

It is up to us, here in the Senate, to stop that from happening.

This bill is literally sickening.

It is vicious, it is cruel, and it should never be passed into law.

I urge my Republican colleagues to walk away from this cruel effort.

And work with us to actually improve health care for Americans.

And I urge everyone considering this bill to be straight with the American people about

exactly what this bill would do to them.

Bonsai: Collected Material Update: Spring 2017 - Duration: 7:46.

Welcome to Appalachian Bonsai.

It has been some time since we've done an update on the trees you've seen in past videos,

And I'd like to show you a few more that you haven't seen yet.

This is an Eastern White Pine, and I'd like to tell you about it in just a second.

[bluegrass music]

This is an Eastern White Pine, or Pinus strobus.

It is commonly found here in the Appalachian region.

It normally grows straight and tall,

but this one had been twisted and beat up by cattle.

A friend of mine & I found it in a field, and were able to collect it earlier this year.

The video for this tree will be coming out soon.

Here is the dogwood we...

[Dogs barking]

Here is the dogwood we collected last...

[Dogs barking]

Hush!

Here is the dogwood we collected last year.

It has nice green growth from this spring, and I've added a little bit of wire

here and there to add shape to the branches and bring them down some.

So, when they lignify, or harden with wood,

we'll be able to have those in place.

It's easier to wire the branches into place when they are flexible than when they are harden.

Here's that beautiful green hawthorn we collected last year.

It got a prune in the late fall,

it's already grown, you may see here,

at least a foot in several regions.

This will be pruned and wired this year.

It is strong enough and healthy enough that I feel comfortable doing that.

So, we'll be able to start training this to become a bonsai.

I do have a problem here that

you may want to discuss in the comment section.

This bottom area,

right here,

is actually two trunks that have been fused together.

Do I separate them and try to create two trees? I might do that when I repot next year.

Or do I leave it alone?

There's a chance I'm going to separate them, but it's going to leave a really big scar

right in this area. It might be hard to see in the camera.

It's hard for me to tell from here.

It's doable,

but, it will certainly change

much of this tree.

I don't know. We'll have to wait until next year.

But, isn't it nice?!

This is an American hornbeam that I collected last year.

I didn't do a collection video, but it was in one of the updates.

It's looking really strong and healthy.

I have some sawfly issues on all of my hornbeams,

but it can be hard to resist spraying too much pesticide, which you shouldn't.

You sometimes need to let Nature take it's course.

These branches here are in good positions.

This one was wired earlier, but it started to dig into the bark.

I cut the wire off so it wouldn't damage it. This will be wired to the pot using a guide wire.

I can use this little stub to anchor it this way without damaging the bark.

Looking good, though!

This is the Rocky Mountain juniper I did with Jim Doyle's workshop last year.

I didn't exactly repot it. I slip potted it. What slip potting is,

is taking the tree out of its original container, but not disturbing the roots.

What you do, is put it into a larger container, then back-fill with soil.

This allows me to adjust the angle of the tree where it needs to be for its future position

without disturbing any roots. This doesn't cause much stress to the tree.

I want this tree to look beautiful and healthy because it will be repotted next year,

but I don't want to stress it so much that I end up weakening the tree, and then weaken it even more next year.

Right now, it's looking great. It has strong healthy growth. Lots of new shoots, and

I'm excited to see what it's going to be in the future.

This is that beautiful viburnum I collected last year.

It's had some explosive growth this spring, which means I've got a very good root system.

It will need a repot next year.

I've applied some wire here and there, because these branches don't bend very easily once they're fully lignified.

But I've had to cut some off, because it's growing so strongly, it's starting to grow into the wire,

and therefore leave marks.

It's not a problem, because they stayed where the were, and it's looking very healthy.

This is the American hornbeam you saw me collect last year.

In the autumn I pruned it back, as you saw. Now, it's grown quite strong again.

All of this, right here,

almost two feet,

is from this spring season.

I've had sawfly issues, as mentioned before.

That's just something you have to deal with.

I did a little bit of carving, which you may or may not see, to work with some of the deadwood.

There's another spot here where there was a broken dead branch.

I drilled that out and carved it.

Looking good!

This is the Pfitzer juniper you saw in the autumn update.

I had just wired it at that time.

And it's really responding well.

It was not repotted this year. I didn't do any carving.

But, I wanted to show you how it's looking, since you got to see it last time.

This is not a collected tree. This was purchased as a bush at a local hardware store in a nursery container.

You can find good material anywhere.

This is a green hawthorn I collected this year.

It was collected at the same place I took the other two hawthorns you've already seen.

It's a beautiful little tree. I'm excited about it, and happy it came out relatively easy.

The video for this will be coming soon.

I have to admit, I ended up losing some of the footage because of a bad battery.

Speaking of hawthorns, the big one is doing really well!

The problem is, it's so big, I can't carry it by myself – no one is here.

Let's go check it out!

My apologies. I know it is difficult to see with all the green everywhere.

This thing is doing very very well.

Let me back up here...

Oh, yeah.

Some people were asking about the base.

Here's what it looks like.

There's my hand for perspective.

There's a little deadwood here.

I did take some of this off.

I may take it all off in the future.

Growing strong!

I hope you enjoyed this video.

If you did, give it a thumbs up.

Leave some comments in the section below. I do respond back.

Tell me about the trees you just saw, and give suggestions for future videos.

To let you know, I'm working on a soil video many people have asked for.

I'm also working on a video about collecting ethics. It's been a long time in coming.

There's lots of good and lots of bad, too. This needs to be told.

If you'd like to watch that video, please subscribe, because there's more to come.

Thanks for watching!

Bizarre budget afterthought Why is Team Trump unveiling his terrible budget while the president is o - Duration: 7:07.

Bizarre budget afterthought Why is Team Trump unveiling his terrible budget while the president

is overseas

President Donald Trump is exhausted.

At least thats what an aide told the press as an explanation for why he used the word

Islamic rather than Islamist in his big speech in Saudi Arabia and ended up

offending his hosts.

After the speech, Trump canceled his appearance at the Tweeps Forum and had his daughter fill

in for him.

He did manage to handle a weird glowing orb and swayed along to a traditional all-male

sword dance along with Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson

and White House adviser Steve Bannon on the first night of his trip but none of that looked

very arduous.

And the team brought home a major arms deal, with the presidents son-in-law Jared Kushner

arranging a nice discount for the wealthy Saudi government, which will undoubtedly give

the war in Yemen a big boost.

But the administration didnt come away empty-handed by any means.

The Ivanka Foundation apparently scored a gift from gulf sources, which flies in the

face of what Donald Trump once had to say about the Clinton Foundation:

For Mondays stop in Israel, most Israeli government ministers were planning to boycott

the airport ceremony until Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a fit and demanded

that they attend.

(The ministers were a little miffed that Trump gave away one of their intelligence operatives

while swinging his yuge intel around for the Russians.)

The White House had previously requested that Israel shorten the welcoming ceremony officials

had planned at the airport because of the heat, which is lucky considering that Trump

was falling apart just three days into his trip.

It seems that our president is lacking in the strength and stamina required for the

job.

You might even call him low energy.

Trump's signing ceremony with King Salman Still, it probably beats being back in Washington

and dealing with the Russian investigation.

The last two weeks have been historically bad.

Even the best-run White House in the world would have had trouble carrying on with the

normal business of governing under these circumstances and I think everyone knows by now that

this is not the best-run White House in the world.

So it should not be surprising that for reasons that make no sense whatsoever, the Trump administration

chose this moment to drop its proposed budget.

And it is a bomb.

First of all, its bizarre to do this while the president is on his first big overseas

trip.

As Forbes Stan Collender observed, the production of the budget is normally a major

political endeavor, choreographed in every detail over the course of at least a week.

It usually begins with the State of the Union address, when the president would unveil his

major policy proposals to the nation.

Then administration officials would strategically leak specific details and issue trial balloons,

after which top members of the economic team would hit the airwaves to sell the plan to

the public.

Thats just the beginning.

Collender explained how things normally work:

The budget was then sent to Congress the next day.

The president typically held a press conference to take a political victory lap for what he

was proposing.

Federal departments and agencies would do a briefing that same day for reporters.

Cabinet members would appear the rest of the week at congressional hearings on their budgets.

In one final gasp, the new presidents budget would then be the prime topic of conversation

on that weekends talk shows.

None of this is happening.

It is also true that even if members of Team Trump tried to follow that script it would

be tough because of all the scandals and investigations.

But they arent even trying.

The president will be on the air all week, but he wont be talking about this.

As far as we know, the members of the economic team who arent traveling with the president

arent booked for any TV this week.

Even more problematic is the fact that they are dropping this budget during the same week

that the Congressional Budget Office report on the Trumpcare bill is scheduled to be released

which will create another round of devastating headlines in local papers all over the country.

And for obscure procedural reasons, the House may even have to go through the agony of voting

on that toxic waste of a bill all over again.

Needless to say, the leaks weve seen suggest this budget is a nightmare that could have

been written by the most conservative member of Congress advised by the Heritage Foundation.

It is a full-fledged assault on children those who are poor or have disabilities and elderly

people.

According to Jonathan Swan at Axios, these are the bullet points:

Balanced budget: I am told Trumps budget will balance over ten years.

To get there, it will propose tough cuts on both the mandatory and discretionary sides

e.g. to the EPA and State Department and will assume that the U.S. economy will grow

at 3 percent instead of the 1.6 percent rate it grew in 2016.

The 3 percent growth rate will be reached after a few years, not immediately.

Where the entitlement cuts are made: From programs including SNAP (food stamps), CHIP

(Childrens Health Insurance Program), and SSDI (Disability Insurance).

The budget proposal will also assume that Trump can sign into law the American Health

Care Act the Obamacare repeal and replace bill that passed the House and is now being

considered by the Senate.

That bill makes substantial cuts to Medicaid.

How the entitlement money will be saved: The source tells me therell be an emphasis

on work requirements for able-bodied people to save money on these social welfare programs.

The new GOP populism looks an awful lot like the old conservative GOPs politics after

all.

The only thing missing is the huge tax cuts we know are coming, but Trump will almost

certainly insist on a really big show for his reform plan.

Hell be happy to go out and tell people how much they are winning.

Hes obviously not so keen on owning up to all the losing.

The good news is that this budget is likely dead on arrival.

It will bring a few days of very bad press for Republicans and could shave another point

or two off the presidents already historically low poll numbers.

It suffers from the same dynamic that has made Trumpcare into a giant albatross choking

the life out of mainstream Republicans, but with one important difference.

Since this austerity budget isnt something theyve all been running for office on these

past few years (the way they did on repealing Obamacare), it may just die an early death.

Which is very much preferable to all the humans who would do so if the bill were passed.
