Chapter one A Strange Message

Otto Lidenbrock is the famous professor of geology at the University of Hamburg, in Germany.

He is also my uncle.

He is sixty-five years old, not very tall, with grey hair.

He wears small round gold glasses that make him look very serious.

I'm Axel.

I'm only nineteen and the professor's personal assistant.

I watch my uncle very carefully when he works.

That's why I know so much about our planet - Earth.

My uncle, the professor, is a hard worker.

He spends most of his day in his laboratory at the University,

so he never comes home before two o'clock for lunch.

But yesterday, he came home very early.

This surprised Martha, our cook.

The poor old girl did not have the lunch ready and she was a little upset.

"Professor, you're early!"

"Never mind, Martha. I don't want lunch today."

"But, professor, you must eat!" The professor looked excited.

"Martha, food is not important." Then he turned to me.

"Axel, come with me."

He took me into his library.

It was a big room with lots of bookcases against the walls and heavy velvet curtains in front of the windows.

In the middle of the room, there was a desk where my uncle spent most of his evenings.

He took an old book out of his coat pocket.

He looked at me.

"Axel, look at this! Look at this!"

I took it from his hand.

Its cover was hard and it looked very old.

"Why, what is it professor?"

"I found it today in an old bookshop.

It's seven hundred years old."

"What's it about?"

"It's about the old princes from Norway who came to live in Iceland."

"Why is that so special?"

He smiled and said, "Because it is written in a language that no one uses anymore."

I opened the book and saw strange letters from a strange alphabet.

I did not understand any of it.

I turned its yellow pages and a piece of paper fell out of the book onto the floor.

The professor jumped on it.

"What's this?"

It was an old yellow piece of paper with the same strange letters on it.

The professor knew many languages, but he could not read this old language from Iceland.

He took a thick book from one of the shelves.

It was a dictionary for all the old languages in the world which people do not speak today.

Then, he gave me a piece of paper and a pencil.

"Axel, write down these letters as I read them to you."

The professor read each letter to me and I wrote them down.

When we finished, this is what they said:

Go into the volcano at Sneffells Yokul.

Before the first of July, the sun will show you the way to the centre of the earth.

Make this journey. It is fantastic.

The name under this strange message was 'Arne Saknussemm'.

"Arne Saknussemm! I don't believe it!"

"Who's she?"

"He was a famous scientist.

He wrote many strange things about the earth, but no one believed him.

They said he was crazy.

This must be the answer to the things he said.

He left this piece of paper in the old book for someone to find.

Do you understand, Axel, how lucky we are?" Then, he turned to the library door.

"Martha!" I couldn't understand any of the things my uncle said.

"What do you mean, we?"

Martha opened the door to the library.

"Did you want me, sir?"

"Yes, Martha.

I want you to buy us two train tickets to Denmark.

Master Axel and I are going to Iceland."

This was the biggest surprise of my life!

"What?! Uncle, I can't go." The professor looked at me calmly.

"You can and you will."

Chapter two Grauben

There is a seventeen-year-old girl living in our town.

I think she is the most beautiful girl in Germany.

She's got long blonde hair and bright blue eyes.

Her name is Grauben, and we are in love.

We want to get married.

That's why I didn't want to go with my uncle on his mysterious trip.

But he couldn't understand that.

"Are you in love with Grauben?"

"Yes."

"And you want to marry her?"

"Yes."

The professor was silent.

He was a good man, but he could not understand love because his only interest was science.

He forgot what I said and began to talk about our journey.

"Today is the 26th of May.

We have one month to get to Sneffells.

We're going to take the train to Denmark, and then we'll take a boat to Iceland.

The whole trip is going to take twelve days, then we have to walk to the volcano."

I could not listen to him anymore.

My heart felt heavy.

The professor needed an assistant and he did not want anyone else to know about this secret.

But how could I leave my Grauben?

I went for a walk through the beautiful city of Hamburg.

I walked along the Elbe river thinking of Grauben.

I stopped for a moment to look at a fishing boat sailing on the calm water.

Then I turned and, like magic, she was there.

Grauben, my Grauben, stood twenty feet away, looking at the river.

"Grauben!" She looked like an angel.

We ran into each other's arms and kissed.

"Oh, Axel! I'm so excited!"

She sounded very happy, but I couldn't understand why.

"Excited? Why are you excited, my love?"

"I was at your house.

I heard about your journey. Isn't it wonderful?"

For a moment, I felt sad.

So, Grauben wanted me to go away from her!

"But, Grauben, we want to get married.

I don't know when I'm coming back."

She looked at me lovingly and held my hand.

"It doesn't matter.

I'll still wait for you. Don't you understand?

This is the kind of journey all great men must make.

When you come back, you're going to be famous like your uncle.

Then, our life will be perfect together."

"Do you really mean that?" She touched my face and smiled.

"Of course I do."

"Oh, Grauben, you are the most wonderful girl in the world!"

Back at my uncle's house, I felt excited.

Then, I thought of something.

Maybe this adventure was too dangerous.

Maybe we wouldn't come back.

I ran into the library where my uncle was.

"Uncle, is it possible that we won't come back from this journey?"

His answer didn't make me feel any better.

"There's only one way to find out, Axel..."

Chapter three Iceland

It was very early in the morning when the boat got to Iceland.

We could see the round body of the Sneffells Yokul volcano going up into the sky through the clouds.

It had snow near the top, and it looked like an angry monster waiting for someone to try and climb it.

The boat stopped at Reykjavik.

It was a small town with small brick houses.

Mr Fridriksson, a professor from the university there, met us at the boat.

He looked very friendly and smiled when he saw us.

"You must be professor Lidenbrock."

"And you must be professor Fridriksson.

This is my assistant, Axel." We shook hands.

"You got my letter, then."

"Oh, yes, professor, and everything is ready for you.

Please, come with me."

My uncle did not tell anyone the real reason for our journey.

He wanted the two of us to be the only ones to travel to the centre of the earth.

But we needed someone to go along with us

as we didn't know the area and the ice and snow around the volcano was too dangerous.

So, Mr Fridriksson found us a guide.

His name was Hans and he looked perfect for the job.

He was tall and very strong.

He had small blue eyes and long red hair.

He almost never smiled or spoke.

Mr Fridriksson introduced us.

"Professor Lidenbrock, this is Hans.

Hans, professor Lidenbrock and his assistant, Axel."

Hans moved his head just a little to say hello.

"Hans is a very quiet man, like most Icelanders,

but he is the strongest and best climber in Reykjavik."

My uncle smiled at Mr Fridriksson's words.

"He's just perfect, Mr Fridriksson."

Mr Fridriksson let us stay at his house until we were ready to leave.

We needed many things for our adventure.

We took four horses to travel to the mountain.

The professor and I each rode one, but Hans walked.

The other two horses carried our bags.

We took a lot of things with us:

rope for climbing, tools, lights, guns, medicine and enough food for six months.

The only problem was we could only carry enough water for one week.

The professor believed there was water under the volcano, but what if there wasn't?

We left Reykjavik on the 15th of June, early in the morning.

We travelled along the sea and it was a wonderful journey.

The land had a dark colour from the explosions of the volcano,

and the beautiful blue sea next to it made it look fantastic.

The journey to Sneffels took us six days, and each day we stopped in a different village for the night.

The villages were small and very pretty, built at the foot of the volcano, next to the sea.

The villagers were very nice, but, like Hans, they did not talk much.

When we got closer to the top of Sneffels, I thought of something.

"Uncle, what happens if the volcano explodes again?"

"No, that's impossible.

This volcano had its last explosion in 1229.

I checked the ground. It's impossible."

"But...Axel, I am a scientist. This is a fact.

There is nothing more to say."

It was now eleven o'clock at night and we were at the top.

We stopped and found a small place inside the opening of the volcano where we could sleep.

That night, I had a dream.

I saw that I was alone inside the volcano.

I was lost and very scared.

Suddenly, the volcano exploded and I was shot out of its top like a rock!

Chapter four Inside the Volcano

The mouth of the volcano was one mile wide.

We tied a rope around each other and began to climb down.

Hans went first.

The inside of the volcano looked like the inside of an ice-cream cone.

Its opening became smaller as we went down because of the rocks left there after explosions.

The bottom of the volcano was 2,000 feet down.

When we got there, I looked up and saw the opening at the top.

It was a perfect circle of clear blue sky.

There were three holes in the floor of the volcano.

Each of them was about a hundred feet wide.

The explosion of rocks and hot lava once came through these holes and then out through the top.

Now, they looked like dark caves.

I looked at the holes and then turned to my uncle.

"Which one do we take?"

"I don't know.

Arne Saknussemm said the sun touches one of them at the end of June.

Today is June 25th.

It is too late to see the sun today.

We must wait until tomorrow."

"What if it's cloudy tomorrow?"

"Then, we will wait again. But we only have five more days.

In July, the sun is too low. It cannot reach the bottom of the volcano."

"Then, we can go home?"

"Axel, don't say such things!

Tomorrow will be sunny, and we are going to the centre of the earth."

The next day it was cloudy.

The professor could not believe it.

"Four days. We only have four days.

Please, please, sun, come out, come out!"

The professor looked up at the sky with his arms open.

The only thing he wanted now was to see the sun shine.

I thought of Grauben and the danger waiting for my uncle and myself inside those holes.

I hoped for rain.

Hans built a small house from the large rocks he found on the floor of the volcano.

He never said much, but he always thought of something useful to do.

I checked the rock of the volcano walls to see how old they were.

Drops of water from the ice and the snow outside ran down the wall,

and the sound they made inside was like music.

Suddenly, the professor called out my name.

"Axel! Axel, come here." I ran to him curious to see what was there.

"What is it?"

"Look at this!"

There were two words on the wall of the volcano in the old Icelandic language.

"What does it say?"

"Arne Saknussemm. He was here. We're in the right place."

The next day, the sun came out,

and at 1:13 in the afternoon, it touched the hole in the centre of the floor.

"That's it. That's the hole to the centre of the earth. Let's go."

Hans brought our bags, but there was one problem.

We could not carry all of them and climb down the hole at the same time.

"What must we do now?"

The professor took off his glasses and cleaned them while he tried to think of a solution.

"Well, we'll throw everything we don't need down the hole

and we'll find it when we get to the bottom."

Hans threw the bags down the hole in front of us.

We listened, but we never heard them hit the bottom.

Chapter five Lost in the Tunnels

We put our rope through holes in the rocks on the sides of the walls, then climbed down.

Hans went first, then my uncle, then me.

Every two hundred feet, we found a flat rock to stop on.

We pulled the rope down from above us, tied it to a new rock, then started again.

We did this for almost ten hours.

We travelled 2,000 feet down.

Finally, Hans said something.

"Stop!"

It was only one word, but it was nice to finally hear his voice.

"What happened?"

"We're at the bottom." The professor and I looked at him.

"Of what?"

"I don't know."

There was a turn in the hole.

There was an open area like a cave at the bottom of the hole, which continued to the right.

Our bags were there.

After ten hours of climbing down, we were very tired.

We decided to spend the night there.

In the morning, we continued our journey down.

The hole now opened and looked more like a tunnel.

We did not need to climb because we could walk down this tunnel.

We used our torches, so we could see the rock on the walls clearly.

It looked like glass of different colours.

Some of it was red, some was brown, and some was yellow.

My uncle saw me looking at it.

"That's from the lava."

"It's beautiful."

"So, you're starting to enjoy our journey. There's more to see. Come along."

We walked for two more days and we found other tunnels.

There were tunnels everywhere, but we did not know which was the right one.

Unluckily, our water finished.

"Now, what are we going to do?"

"We're going to find a spring.

There are many, but we have to go down further."

I could not move.

I was very tired and thirsty and thinking of Grauben.

"Uncle, I can't go on."

"Axel, please. We are going to find water."

"Water!"

It was Hans' voice.

"What did you say?"

"Water!"

There was a loud sound behind the wall next to us.

It sounded like the water of a river.

Hans took a pickaxe and made a hole in the wall.

Water came out onto the floor around us.

"I told you, Axel. Water! Ow! It's hot. Don't touch it. It needs air.

We're too far underground."

The water was cold enough to drink after a few minutes and we all felt strong again.

We continued our journey but I made a serious mistake.

I was very excited about finding the water and I went first.

I walked too far in front of the others and I got lost.

I tried to go back, but I could not find them.

I shouted their names.

"Uncle! Hans!"

I could only hear my own voice in the tunnel.

I was afraid. I ran. Then I fell.

I fell through the air down a long tunnel.

Then I hit my head and everything went black around me.

Chapter six An Underground Water-World

When I opened my eyes, I heard the sound of the sea.

The sun was high in the sky.

But this was not possible! We were under the ground! My uncle stood over me.

"He's OK, Hans."

I saw Hans smile.

My head hurt.

I touched it and I felt a bandage on it.

I tried to speak, but it was difficult.

"Where are we?"

"Don't speak, Axel.

You had a terrible fall.

We heard you screaming.

We were in a tunnel next to yours.

Luckily, the two channels came out here, on this beach."

My uncle sat down next to me and spoke with more excitement in his voice.

"Axel, we found an underground sea.

There are trees here and the bones of animals that lived thousands of years ago.

When you get better, we are sailing across this sea.

Oh Axel, you can't imagine how happy I am!"

I could not move much for two days.

I heard Hans building a boat for us to sail in, but I could not understand how there was light.

The professor explained this to me.

"It is a mystery, like so many things,

but it is something like electricity coming from the heat of these rocks.

We are inside something like a giant cave.

The top of it is a few miles high.

There are even clouds because of the water."

I looked up and saw the clouds.

I could not see the top of this cave, but it was difficult to believe that all of this was under the earth.

When I felt strong again, I took a walk along the beach.

There were shells there from a time before man walked on the earth.

I saw the bones of something which looked like a huge elephant.

I thought, 'Can things live under the earth? Are there any animals alive down here?'

The boat was ready and we were ready to sail.

We left the beach and a strong wind pushed us quickly out to sea.

After a few hours on this strange sea, Hans tied the pickaxe to a rope and threw it into the water.

The professor wanted to know how deep the sea was.

It never touched the bottom.

When Hans pulled it back into the boat, its metal head looked different.

There were large marks on it.

"What's that?"

Hans looked at it closely.

"Teeth."

Teeth? Could something so big live in these waters? The professor looked at his compass.

"We are travelling south.

If I am right, we left Iceland when we went under the volcano.

We travelled under the Atlantic Ocean and now we are under Scotland."

"That's fantastic!"

"But we're still not going down.

I want to go further down!"

Suddenly, there were huge waves rocking the boat.

"What's happening?"

Hans pointed to something dark about a mile away from us.

It came closer and I thought I saw a giant dolphin.

I was wrong.

It was an alligator.

It came closer and I saw that I was wrong again.

It was something with the body of a dolphin and the head of an alligator.

It was over one hundred feet long.

Then, I saw a huge snake with a shell on its back like a turtle's.

We took the guns in our hands, but the animals did not care about us.

They fought each other.

It was a horrible fight.

We heard the snake hissing and the dolphin screaming.

They both dove under the water.

Everything was quiet.

Then, the snake's head came out of the water.

It hissed one more time before it died in the water.

But where was the monster dolphin?

Chapter seven A Terrible Storm

Now, our journey felt even more dangerous.

The professor was frightened, but nothing could stop him from going to the centre of the earth.

Hans continued to sail the boat, but we did not see land.

We travelled for hours, but we did not hear or see anything.

Then, there was a sound like fast running water.

We couldn't see it, but we could hear it.

It got louder.

Then we saw it.

"Look, it's water shooting up into the air!"

"And it's coming from the body of a huge sea creature."

We tried to turn the boat, but the waves pulled us near the creature.

For a moment, I thought that this was the end of our journey.

The water went up 500 feet high into the air.

An animal that could do this, could kill us easily.

Then, we saw that the long black body we thought was an animal, was an island.

It was like a small volcano, shooting up water, instead of lava.

"That's where all this water is coming from."

"Axel, check the temperature of the water here."

I took a thermometer out of my inside jacket pocket and I put it in the water for a few seconds.

"163 degrees Fahrenheit."

"We're close to the centre."

"We can't go on, uncle.

It's too hot."

"We must."

The electric light coming from the rocks over our heads began to make explosions.

The clouds were now near the water.

Small lines of light that looked like snakes exploded all around us.

The waves were bigger now and pushed us away.

I was very scared.

"What's happening?"

The explosions were too loud for us to hear each other.

"It's an electrical storm, Hans!"

Hans tried to keep the boat from sinking.

The wind pushed us through the water like a race car.

Suddenly, a large ball of white electric light fell on the boat.

None of us could move.

It held our feet with its electric power.

We shouted to each other, but none of us could hear anything.

The boat moved by itself, and there was nothing we could do.

Suddenly, the ball of electricity exploded.

We all fell down and a huge wave threw us into the water.

Hans had the professor in one arm and me in the other.

I don't know how he did it, but he got us to land safely.

I began to think that all the energy he saved by not talking, made him the strongest man on earth.

The storm stopped and we saw the boat, still on the water, a hundred feet away.

Hans swam out to save our food and equipment.

The professor and I tried to understand where we were.

"I think that sea is 800 miles wide."

"That means we went under Europe.

The Mediterranean sea is now over our heads!"

"Let's wait for Hans to bring back the compass."

When Hans brought back the compass, the professor and I could not believe what we saw.

It said we were north and not south.

That meant the wind took us back to the place where we started.

Chapter eigth A Lost World

We were on the north side of the sea again, but not on the same beach as before.

For this reason, we began to look around to see what we could find.

The professor didn't want us to stay there for long.

He wanted to sail on the sea again.

"Professor, it's too dangerous! You saw what happened."

"I don't care, Axel.

I did not come all this way to turn back now.

We've got to see what's on the other side of that sea."

This beach was longer than the other one.

Its rocks had more holes in them, and I thought this was because of earthquakes.

There were many more bones and old shells on this beach.

"Look at all of this, Axel! We can read the whole history of the world from these bones."

There were skeletons of animals that are not living today.

It was very exciting to see them out in the open and not in a museum.

"Axel, look! A human head!"

There, with all the other bones, was the head of a man.

How did it get here? Did it fall down one of those holes like we did?

Was that going to happen to us? The professor was excited.

"If other scientists could see me now! This could be the oldest skeleton ever found!"

We walked further down and the beach changed.

Now, there were large trees and small plants around us.

The further we went, the more life we found.

Suddenly, I saw something move behind the trees.

My uncle and I hid.

It was a family of mammoths from thousands of years ago.

"Axel, can you believe it? There is another world under our earth!"

"But are there also people here?"

"Yes, look!"

I couldn't believe it.

Walking behind the mammoths was a giant man.

He was over twelve feet tall with long hair and a beard.

He had a piece of animal skin around his waist.

"Should we try to talk to him?"

"No, he looks dangerous.

Hans is not with us, and we don't have our guns.

Let's go back to the boat."

We ran away quietly, so the prehistoric man did not see us.

When we stopped running, we were back at the beach.

I saw an old knife on a rock.

"Let's clean this and keep it.

It could be useful."

"Axel, don't you understand what this is?"

"Yes, it's a knife."

"But it's made of metal.

It is only two or three hundred years old."

"Do you mean..."

"Yes, Arne Saknussemm!" The professor saw a cave nearby.

He ran to it.

"Axel, it's him!"

On the rock, next to the entrance of this cave, there were two letters in old Icelandic: A.S.

The professor looked very excited.

"This must be the entrance we are looking for."

Chapter nine The Last Tunnel

Hans brought the boat to the end of the beach where the cave was.

We tied it to a rock in the water and took our bags to the cave.

"Are we going to use the boat again?"

"I don't know.

Maybe, if we come back this way.

But, who knows where this new tunnel will take us."

We needed the boat sooner than we thought.

We walked about twelve feet inside the cave, then we saw a huge rock blocking the tunnel.

We couldn't understand it.

"How could Arne Saknussemm get around this rock?"

The professor thought for a moment, and then he looked at the rock.

"Maybe it fell after his journey, in the last two hundred years,

probably after an earthquake or a terrible storm."

"I wish there was another earthquake to move that rock from the entrance of the cave."

"Axel, that's it! We can use the gun powder to move this rock again."

"Do you think it will work?"

"There's only one way to find out."

We still had some extra gun powder with us for the guns.

Hans made a hole in the rock with his pickaxe, then we put the gun powder inside.

We used the rope to light it, but we made it very long to give us time to move back and hide.

The three of us got into the boat and moved fifty feet out to sea.

We had no idea how big the explosion was going to be.

Waiting for it made us very nervous.

"Maybe it won't work."

"Axel! Don't say those things."

We waited.

Suddenly, the rocks on the beach opened like two curtains.

The earth shook and everything fell into a huge hole.

We fell back in the boat, and the final explosion made the sea rise in a huge wave which pushed us back to the beach.

We were in the air, on top of the water, and the hole was below us.

It looked big enough to take in all the world!

"We're going down into the hole!"

"That's what we want!"

"Not this way!"

We shouted because the noise of falling rocks was all around us and we couldn't hear each other.

The boat moved like a train through the tunnel, then we crashed into a new river of fresh water.

The boat went under and came back up so fast that there was very little water in it.

I don't know how we stayed in it.

We held onto the sides of the boat with all of our strength.

"Professor, where are we?"

"I don't know, but the water is taking us somewhere.

We have no choice but to follow it."

"It's getting hot!"

The temperature was high.

The walls had the red colour of lava.

"Are we under another volcano?"

When I finished my sentence, we heard a loud roar from behind us.

Water and air pushed us forward faster.

The walls began to shake and rocks began to fall.

"Professor!"

Then it was clear.

We were inside a volcano and it was going to explode.

I could see the blue sky through the round hole at the top of the volcano.

There was one more terrible roar and we were flying up into the air!

Chapter ten Back Home

The volcano threw us into the sea.

Hans saved us again with his amazing strength.

But where were we? It looked like the surface of the earth.

There were small boats in the water and olive and fruit trees on the land.

Behind us was the huge volcano.

We saw a little boy.

We tried to go near him, but he was afraid of us.

After all our underground adventures, we looked horrible.

The professor spoke to him in German, French and English, but he did not understand.

Finally, the boy spoke in Italian.

"What did he say?"

"He said we're in Stromboli, Italy."

"You mean we went in one volcano in Iceland and came out of another in Italy?"

"Yes, and that one there is Mount Etna."

And that was how our journey ended.

The professor was not happy that he didn't get to the centre of the earth,

but when we got back to Germany, he felt better.

Martha told everyone in Hamburg about our journey, and when we arrived, there was a big celebration for us.

Everyone in Hamburg was at the train station when we arrived, but the only person I looked for was my Grauben.

And I saw her, like a white light, moving past the others, until I could hold her.

"Oh, Axel, I'm so glad you're back.

I thought of you every day and sometimes I was afraid, but somehow I knew you were all right."

"Well, I never felt that I was safe, but I did want to come back to you, every minute of every day."

There was a stage set up in the station,

and the journalists who were there asked the professor to talk about our journey.

Uncle Otto was tired, but he agreed.

"My nephew, Axel, and I are now back from an incredible journey."

We saw things that scientists still do not know about.

There is life in the heart of this planet.

There is water and beaches and trees.

Arne Saknussemm, a famous scientist from the sixteenth century, was the first to travel under the earth.

We are the second.

I do not know if others will try this dangerous adventure in the future.

If they do, they need someone like our guide Hans with them, or I'm afraid they will not survive.

For a moment, I thought I saw a smile on Hans' face as the people clapped and cheered.

But, as usual, the quiet Icelander didn't say a word.

Things I miss now I'm grown up. - Duration: 3:43.

Hey, guys!

My name is Asha and this video is for British Council's LearnEnglish Teens website and

YouTube channel.

So, today has made me realise how much of a grown-up I am now.

I do my own washing, I pay bills and I am trying to find a full-time job currently,

which has really made me miss being a child, slash, teenager.

So, I thought I would take this opportunity and make this video and to express how much

I miss being a child, slash, teenager.

OK, let's start with the most important, yet, like, biggest thing you do not realise

when you are younger, and that is your parents and how much they do for you, whether that

is cleaning, washing, making you food.

The most important one: restocking the fridge.

The amount of times I have gone into the kitchen and thought, 'Why do I not have any cheese?',

and that's because I haven't been to the supermarket in ages.

That is the most important and probably the one that I miss the most about being a child.

Another thing I miss a lot is seeing my friends at school every single day.

I just miss those days you go to school and you just see your friends, every single day.

You eat lunch with them, every single day.

You go and play out with them, every single day.

So, I do miss that.

OK, this one is super sad but I just can't help it, but I miss being excited for things

like Christmas and my birthday.

It was always events where I was like, counting the days down, like, twenty-four days until

my birthday, twenty-three days.

Like, my birthday is next month and, honestly, I could not tell you how many days are left.

And I remember back in the day, I would have a full-on countdown for events like this.

So, it makes me sad that I can't get myself excited about it any more.

I also miss probably paying for child tickets for theme parks, public transport.

The price difference between an adult ticket and a child ticket is just, is just … like,

that difference in money is huge.

Sometimes I just want to get on somewhere and be, like, yeah, I'm a child still, please.

Please.

And lastly, I miss just generally going to the park.

When I go and I meet my friends it always involves money, whether it's going to the

cinema, going to town, going somewhere to eat.

There is money involved.

I miss those days where we could be happily at the park, enjoying ourselves on the swings

and, yeah, I just … I really miss childhood so much.

Anyway, these are a few things that I personally miss being a child, slash, teenager.

Comment down below what you miss about childhood, slash, teenagehood, and if you are a teenager

comment down below what you love about being a teenager and what you'll probably miss.

But otherwise, do not forget to subscribe and I will see you in the next video.

Bye!

Hey, guys!

My name is Asha and this video is for British Council's LearnEnglish Teens website and

YouTube channel.

So, my year in Spain is coming to an end and it has made me realise that I have no school

to go back to, no university to go back to, which means I have to enter the world of adulthood.

Aaaah!

Really, it really makes me sad.

So, I was thinking about all the things that I miss [about] being a child, slash, teenager

and I thought I would just make a video about it for you guys, so here are a few things

that I miss about being an adult, slash, teenager.

So, the first thing I miss is being excited about birthdays and Christmas.

Before, I would be, like, yes, let's throw a big party, let's get all my friends round,

and now, for some reason, I'm just less enthusiastic about it.

Another thing I miss is seeing my friends at school every single day.

It was easier to meet up, and now, because we've all got different jobs, it's harder

to all be free at the same time to do something fun.

Number three is having absolutely no responsibility.

The biggest responsibility I probably had was what colour I wanted to paint my bedroom

wall.

And now I make 'to-do' lists every night for the next day.

Welcome to adulthood!

You really don't realise how much parents actually do for you.

OK, the next one is having so much free time.

I remember when I was a child, I used to complain,.

'I'm so bored, I'm so bored', and now, I would love to be bored for a few minutes

of my life.

Number eight is buying adult tickets for theme parks, maybe, like, public transport, like,

trains and buses.

Just … the price difference is just, like, sky high, and I just, I miss paying the lower

price of a child ticket.

Number nine is bills.

Bills, bills, bills, bills, bills!

And I'm going to leave that there.

And finally, number ten is I was so easily entertained as a child.

I remember going to the park –- and I was satisfied, I was happy.

And now, for some reason, when I go out with my friends, I always end up spending money.

I miss going to the park and just hanging out.

They are the top few things that I miss about being younger.

Erm, let me know what you miss about being younger, or, if you're still in your prime

teens, let me know what you love about being a teenager.

Do not forget to give this video a thumbs up if you liked it and do not forget to subscribe,

because there are more upcoming videos, and I will see you in the next video.

Bye!

Indonesia I'll show you guys what

happens if I go to Oanda.com here's what I

get

past week I didn't think any trade I

just looked at my trade I didn't even

manage anything suddenly I realize I

couldn't trade with Oanda this past

week. Now it's time to find a solution

but Indonesia it's kind of frustrating

for forex I guess. That's going to be the

start for today's video guys...welcome

back. I'm in Bali of course let's get

breakfast but before I need to find a

solution on how to fix that

problem

Here we go! Problem solved...but it's extremely

slow.

Alright so I just got in Ubud (Indonesia)

I don't think I made it really clear so let me explain a little bit why I'm

here. Instead of spending all my time in

Bali at the same place I decided to

visit a few places instead of being all

the time in Kuta near the beach,

I wanted to see other areas (there's a lot of areas in

Bali that you can check out) so I'm

going to be here for a week and then

go to add to another place. I'll go

explore the only problem now is that I

see the plugs... in the room

are like this...oops. I'm not not sure whether

that's last scene was clear or not (kind of

cut off) and I had to close my smartphone

but basically I'm looking for an adapter

because I don't have any adaptors for the

plugs

same thing happened in Hong Kong when I

was a few weeks ago I didn't have an

adapter when I got there so I'll have to

find one and I want to find a place to

eat... I'm gonna pick the first one cause I'm

super hungry have no clue what's

around here so...

Cool restaurant, check it out!

I'll stop the video here for today I hope you like it.

I know it wasn't the best video ever for

sure...was shot with my cell phone but still

I hope you guys can leave some comments below! Any thoughts,

any topics you want me to cover let me know

also below. It turns out good because I

got the adapter for free.

Look forward to see you guys tomorrow. Enjoy the day and I'll

see you guys pretty soon.

I didn't steal it (the adaptor)...they just gave it to me. :)

Coming soon...NEED YOUR HELP! My crowdfunding project (via I Believe in You with English subtitles) - Duration: 2:30.

Hi everyone, my name is Thomas Liess, I'm 22 and I am a Swiss swimmer.

I grew up in Geneva and I've been living in Ticino for the past 3 years.

I study economics in a private University in Lugano.

I can speak four different languages and I am already qualified for

the University Games from this summer in Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan.

I train hard and have a lot of things planned for my preparation.

Here is my IbelieveinYou project!

First of all, I will be leaving very soon for a training camp with the Swiss Swimming national team.

We will fly to Teneriffa for two weeks to train in the best conditions possible.

This training camp is very important to me,

because it will allow me to train hard

so that I will be able to perform during the races in the following weeks.

After the two weeks in Teneriffa, I will go to Canet-en-Roussillon

for the Mare Nostrum Tour with the national team

A week after the races in Canet, I will go to Rome to take part at the Seven Hills Meet.

I will race in the Foro Italico, a beautiful pool in Rome.

''Ciao a tutti''

A week after Rome, I will take part in the Swiss Summer Nationals in Romanshorn.

End of July, I will then leave for Portugal for the last competition of the season

before Taipei.

After that, I will be training for the last 3 weeks

in Bellinzona with the swimmers from the relay.

On August 14th, I will take the plane to Taipei

to take part in the 29th Summer Universiades.

Taipei, with its 6million inhabitants, is the capital city of Taiwan

an island located south of China.

The stadium, arranged as a swimming pool

will contain more than 10,000 spectators

during the swimming events!

Unfortunately, all these trips will cost a lot of money...

This is why I need YOUR HELP!

The money I will raise will allow me to optimize my preparation for the University Games

where I hope to represent Switzerland in the best way possible

and make YOU proud!

You will find all the informations on my project on this link:

Fairyloot 'Warriors & Legends' Unboxing - Duration: 7:30.

Hey guys, it's Trina and today I'm doing

a Fairyloot unboxing. This is my

first time ever getting the Fairyloot

box. It is yet another YA book

subscription service and they approached

me and asked if I would be interested

in receiving a box from them or being a

rep with them for the next three months

and I thought that sounded really cool

so I am going to have an unboxing of

Fairyloot for the next three months on

my channel. And by the way, being a rep

with them does not mean that this video

is sponsored. I'm not being paid to do

this. They are sending me the boxes at

no charge for me to show them off on my

channel. I'm really excited about this

box because Fairyloot does exclusively

YA fantasy books in all of their

boxes and each Fairyloot box will run

about 33 or so US dollars and they do

have a one month plan, or a three

month subscription plan, or a six month

plan. And since I am a rep with

them I actually have a code to share with

you guys, so if you want to get a

subscription plan with them that's

either three months or six months you

can get five percent off your order if

you use my code. I've never had a code

before so this is pretty cool, but my

code is just my name: Trina.

T. R. I. N. A. It's on the screen here so

if you use that for a three or six month

plan you will get five percent off your order.

So the theme for May's box is arriors

and legends and they say that it's gonna

be good for fans of Mulan so I am really

highly suspecting that the book included

in this box is going to be Flame In

The Mist by Renee Ahdieh because a lot of

people have said that fans of Mulan are

going to like that book. For this

unboxing I'm actually going to shoot

this video in a different style than I

have done before because I like to show

you guys the close-ups of the individual

items but I feel like in my past

unboxings, like these unboxings move so

quickly that I'm just kind of like

cutting in those close-ups and it just

kind of ends up looking choppy. So

instead I'm going to shoot this unboxing

in a like totally point of view style,

which means you're not going to see my

face and my reaction but we all know I

don't react very well to stuff [laughs] so you

won't be missing much. But we're going to

open this box together right now.

So this is what the box itself looks like and I'm

just going to open it up and we will see what is in here.

Let's see what's inside.

so right on top was this print which is an illustration

that goes along with the theme of

warriors and legends, and the back of

this card has all of the information for

each item that is included in this

month's box. The first item I pulled out

was this tea, which is loose leaf tea and

it is by The Tea Leaf Company. This

flavor is called Warriors and Legends

going along with this theme and this is

a green tea with hints of lychee and

Jasmine that is sure to calm you down

after a long day. Next is this small tin

candle. It is from In The Wick Of Time

and this is an exclusive scent called

Flame. The author of the book that is

included in this month's box got to name

this candle and this scent is orange

blossom and mint. There were two

different candles sent out in this

month's box so you might have gotten a

different scent but I can tell you that

this smells very very strongly. Like it's

a very powerful scent. The next item I

pulled out is a pair of Celtic Socks.

These are also exclusive to Fairyloot

and this is a Celtic knot design pattern

so this is supposed to be a warrior

pattern. The next item I have is this

metallic feather pen. This one is from

Flora's Wonder Emporium.

Okay this item is most definitely my

favorite thing so far. This is a wooden

bookmark and it is from Ink and Wonder.

It's a Lord of the Rings quote which

says "one ring to rule them all." The Lord

of the Rings is one of my favorite

series because it's one of the first

series that really got me into reading. I

absolutely love this! Next in the box is

a chapter sampler of Naondel and

apparently it is out now.

Next is another book called World

Mythology In Bite-Sized Chunks by Mark

Daniels and this is just kind of an

overview of a bunch of different world

wide mythologies and it just kind of

gives you a brief overview like where

they're from and kind of what they're about.

And the last item in this box is

the book itself and I have

seen this before how Fairyloot puts

their book-of-the-month in a black bag

so that if you're just kind of like

reaching through the box to pick up the

other items you won't accidentally see

the cover and kind of spoil yourself for

this month's book before you're ready to

know what it is and I really really

love that. So there are some papers in

here. I'm just going to try to pull out

the book so we can see what this is together.

Yep. Yeah it is the book I thought it would

be. It is Flame in the Mist by Renee

Ahdieh. Also in that bag are a couple of

bookmarks. So there's one that has that

same art from that spoiler card,

there's one for Flame in the Mist,

there's also a signed book plate, and

here is a print of the cover image with

a letter from the author on the back. And

the final thing is this booklet called

Fairyscoop and inside it's going to

have an interview with the author and

just some information about the book,

some other books suggestions, and then

the back of it has the announcement for

next month's theme. So June's theme is Elementalists.

It says it will be good for fans of

Avatar: The Last Airbender and there's

going to be six items and one of them is

going to be a throw pillow cover which

I'm excited about that because I am

getting June's box too and I've never had a

cute little bookish pillow cover so I'm

really excited to see what is in next

month's box. So I am back now and I guess

I should tell you a little bit about

what this book is actually about. So I

have heard this one being called like a

Mulan inspired story but it is set in

Japan, whereas Mulan was traditionally a

Chinese tale. Our main character is a

girl and she is dressing up like a guy

in order to infiltrate this clan that

has attacked her and she wants to get

revenge so she dresses up like a guy to join

their ranks and get inside information.

So it does seem like there is a revenge

story. She's also in an arranged marriage

that she really doesn't want to be in

but it means great power for her family.

And since I opened the box I actually went

ahead and decided I'm gonna read the

first chapter of this book but the first

chapter was really short. I didn't really

get a good feel for it because it's

actually not following our main character

so then I read the second chapter.

The only thing that's happened in that

first chapter with our main character is

she's riding in a carriage on her way to

meet the man that she is supposed to

marry and then they get attacked.

I'm guessing probably by this clan that

the rest of the story is going to be

following. It was a very interesting

opening scene so I do watch to read more

of this book. I really enjoyed this month's

Fairyloot box and I hope you guys

liked that new style of opening the box.

If you hated it feel free to let me know

because I know that you kind of miss out

on the reactions even though I don't

have very many reactions. If you liked it,

if you hated it please let me know. I don't

have to do it again that way next month.

But I will see you guys next month with

June's Fairyloot unboxing, which that theme

is Elementalists, and I don't know any

books coming out in June that have

an elemental feeling to them so I have no

idea, no guess for that one but I'll see

you next month with another Fairyloot unboxing or

I'll see you sooner in the comments. Bye!

Today is gambiarristic kitchen day, and in today's video I'm going to teach how to do

Oat cookies with chocolate drops.

A box of thinly rolled oats. I used the 170 grams, but up to 250 grams looks great.

Two tablespoons of MARGARINA *** WITHOUT SALT

a egg

Half a cup of wheat flour

A spoonful of baking powder

Chopped chocolate

Mix all the ingredients until the dough wins "bind".

Grease the pan with a little flour and butter

Make balls with the dough and go putting in the form.

It is important that you place the balls at a distance from each other because the cookie will grow,

And if it is too close, it may stick.

EASTER EDDS #1 - Fun Dead [EN SUB] - Duration: 3:31.

Welcome to 1st episode of series, where I reveal in a flash some of surprises and references

hidden by Eddsworld creators. Today: "Fun Dead".

Let's start with TV, which connectors have colors of traffic lights.

In background is hung a portrait of Diwi, but it used to be

one of "Bumming Crew" cartoon character.

Laptop in news programme has got painted, literally, a "fruit joke".

And if we watch carefully the earlier scene, we see that in a bowl,

there's a bitten apple, which later also changes into a fruit joke

in form of Apple brand cellphone.

We can also see that Tom's book is titled "How To Pretend You're Reading"

and inside it says: "Stare blankly at this page".

Bored girls from ASDF Land commercial are weirdly familiar.

On the wall behind sofa, hang 3 portraits of protagonists,

which firstly show their oldest images, but later, evolve.

Tord is broken…

Sad news: Tom's father got murdered by Yogi Bear!

Little Matt from Matt's memories has Pac Man on his cap.

Edd's car's registration plates proudly say the date of

premiere of "Super Mario Bros.".

On titlecard, besides another "Bumming Crew" member,

hangs a modification of poster known from "Spares".

Also appears Eduardo's friend, Mark, holding shopping bags.

And even a few times!

And playing song with whole intro is an another remake.

Suddenly, passenger Tom leaves car by driver's door.

It's so easy to forget that Brits drive on wrong side of road.

ASDF Land map produdly says:

"Yes, we've got only 5 rides. 6 if you count going here.

"1 - spin thing. 2 - another spin thing. 3 -

"4 - rollercoaster. 5 - another spin thing. Have fun!"

And below, we see a scrap of sillish script, starring

milk, a cat, a window, powdered pancakes and Jerry, who's taking off his pants.

By the ASDF Land's entrance parks a van of a company producing

these cakes. By the way: Tomee Bear!

I the queue to queue---

In the queue to rollercoaster stands yet another "Bumming Crew" character,

moreover, dressed as Sonic.

And right behind him is kind-of-Ey-Hed (but not him),

apparently convinced he's playing a 3D shooter.

There's also the known bug with immaterial arm,

and right after, a medicine for zombie bites.

The game, which Tom tried to play, is real. Link in description.

Matt, among big amount of ASDF-guys, holds a plushy cat,

plushy dog, plushy Skeff, plushy mirror and plushy Super Mario.

Someone there loves Mario. (me too)

Chicken booth, live cut out of "WTFuture", offers today

chicken wings eating contest. The first prize is…

…Brian Boitano…?

"Too predictable" weapon against zombies turned out to be quite useful.

These cars we also already seen.

Bacon cola is finally on sale. But the label seems to be sticked…

Among zombies crowd, we see Ey-Hed (killed by Paul in space),

and a moment later goes animator Billy.

After the happy finish of troubles, the mushroom shows up,

…as well as a "holy lonely pony eating macaroni" (quoted),

and a list of complaints, including:

"ASDF Land, really?", "When comes the next episode?",

"Where is Tord?", "I've waited whole year for this, signed: every YouTuber".

It's curious that Matt was, for the first time, during whole episode,

surrounded by zombies, but didn't get bitten even once.

But are you sure?

The end.

HOW TO MAKE CUBAN BREAD - Duration: 6:33.

Hi and a huge welcome to Steve's kitchen and

a big thank you to you Marcel for

requesting a Cuban sandwich. Now I'm not

just going to take two slices of bread

and put them together but I'm actually

going to make Cuban bread as well and

I've simplified the recipe so you can

follow it at home. I really think a good

Cuban sandwich has to have Cuban bread

in it. So Cubans around the world I hope

you'll agree with me and I hope I do

this some justice. Please give me the

thumbs up down below if you are enjoying

the show. Let's get on, make the bread and

make the sandwich.

Into a mixing bowl one

and a quarter cups of warm water ,two

teaspoons of white or raw sugar, two

teaspoons of instant dried yeast, that's

the fast reacting yeast.

Give it a little mix through, cover and

set aside in a warm area to let the

yeast bubble and froth.

So after about 20 minutes you're getting

this foam starting to settle on top. Now

we need 500 grams that's about a pound

of strong flour or bread flour. I'm just

going to add that over the top of the

water and then using a fork I'm going to

start drawing the moisture into the

bread flour and at the same time I'm

going to add a couple of teaspoons of

salt. As the flour starts to absorb the

moisture you can then take the fork away

and start using your hands to draw

together the dough and at this point it

should still be a little bit crumbly. Now

what makes Cuban bread really delicious

is the unique addition of lard. We've got

about a quarter of a cup of lard which

I'm just going to soften in the

microwave then I'm going to add this

softened lard into the dough and this is

going to sort of combine the flour

together now and make a beautiful soft

bread flour. Now of course you can do

this with the stand mixer but I love to

do this by hand.

Now with that lard in there you'll see

that the bread dough is starting to pull

away and leave the bowl clean. At this

point I'm going to take it onto a

surface and I'm going to start to knead

this for a good 10 minutes and what

you'll notice as you're kneading it the

dough will get softer and silkier. Now

two comments really about this dough

making, if you're used to making bread

dough you will love the silky texture

of this, it's absolutely delicious and

secondly a lot of people are going to

say to me 'do you need to use lard to

make this bread' yes you do.

If you don't use lard you're not making

Cuban bread

and after 10 minutes you've got this

unique Cuban dough it's so silky so

springy. I'm going to pop that back in

the bowl now but first I'm going to add

a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil

and pop the dough in there and just roll

it around to coat it. So I'm just going

to cover that over now and put it aside

in a warm area for at least an hour

maybe two until it's doubled in volume.

Two hours later my dough has risen

beautifully and doubled in size and look

at the elasticity in that it's

absolutely beautiful.

I'm just going to take that out, pop it

onto a warm surface, a wooden surface

preferred and knock the air out, punch it

down and knock all the air out of the

dough and I'm just going to divide my

dough up into two, sprinkle the surface

with a little flour just to stop the

dough from sticking because I'm going to

push this and roll this out to a square

or an oblong and it's good at this point

to coat the dough in flour and then

start to use a rolling pin and just roll

this out. So with a combination of

rolling and stretching we're pulling our

dough out to a sort of oblong shape like

this and we're going to be making

something very similar to a French

baguette but it won't stay round like

the French baguette it will flatten

slightly. So when you're happy with the

shape I'm just going to turn that dough

over, so we've got the rough side this

side and I'm going to start rolling the

dough into a roll but I'm pinching and

tensioning the surface of the dough as

I go and if you like you can just wet

your fingers down and just turn these

ends over and pull them into a nice sort

of square ends. The next stage is to take

a baking tray sprinkle over some coarse

semolina and then we're just going to

lift our bread onto there. Now with a

traditional Cuban bread they use a palm

frond to make an indentation, a little

line across the bread but I've seen many

people use a shoelace or a piece of cord

like this. So I've soaked this cord in

water and we're just going to lay it

across and just gently push it into the

into the dough. Now I need to set this

aside for 45 minutes to an hour to let

it rise and a great idea is to pop it

inside a plastic bag like this, just

cover it over to keep the dough from

drying out and then just pull the

plastic away so it doesn't stick to the

dough.

Now my Cuban breads have risen

beautifully, it's been about an hour. I'm

just going to brush some water over the

top. Now people are going to ask me what

is the shoelace or what is the piece of

cord for, well the original Cuban breads

they have like a palm leaf going across

them which cracks the surface of

the bread as it bakes and I read that

this is probably the best way if you

can't get hold of palm Leaves,

just to put a damp shoestring across the

top as it bakes. So now my oven has

preheated to 200 degrees Celsius that's

400 degrees Fahrenheit and these are

going to go in for 18 to 20 minutes I

want to keep an eye, I want a beautiful

golden brown surface on them. One other

thing I will be doing five minutes after

they've been in the oven I'm just going

to pull the oven door open and I'm going

to baste them again with a little more

water, it's going to give us a lovely

crisp surface to the bread.

Now the Cuban bread is out of the oven

look at that it smells delicious and see

that beautiful crack that's come down

the middle there, I'm going to leave those on

the rack to cool down and then we're

going to make a Cuban sandwich. So if you

just joined me to learn how to make Cuban

bread well your videos finished now,

please put the thumbs up down there,
