Musicians can be on top of the charts one day and in the tabloid headlines the next.
Like anyone else, these musically gifted artists are susceptible to drama and mistakes — sometimes,
even earning jail time.
Unfortunately, they aren't usually given second chances by the public, even if the courts
are merciful.
Here are some music stars who ruined their careers, possibly for good, with one wrong
move.
Chris Brown
By 2009, Chris Brown had earned his throne atop the R&B and pop charts and quickly became
a fixture in headlines as his relationship was Rihanna was heating up.
But everything came to a screeching halt on February 8, 2009.
After attending a pre-Grammy party, things between the two turned hellish as they argued
over a sexual text message Chris received from another woman, and the conflict escalated
to violence.
Chris assaulted the pop star, leaving her battered and bruised, and Chris was officially
charged with felony assault and felony criminal threats.
He was later sentenced to five years probation and 1,400 hours of labor service.
And he'll forever be condemned by the court of public opinion as a result of his actions.
R. Kelly
In the '90s, R. Kelly was the king of R&B — until his scandal made headlines.
His sometimes raunchy sex-life, as depicted in his lyrics, came too close to home when
he was accused of a heinous crime in 2002.
Kelly was indicted on 21 counts of child --------- and a tape surfaced allegedly showing Kelly
having --- with a minor.
He faced a $100,000 fine and 15 years in prison.
If convicted, he would become a registered sex offender.
In a statement, he said, "Even though I do not believe any of the charges are warranted,
I'm grateful that I will have a chance to establish the truth about me in a court of
law.
I have complete faith in our system of justice, and I am confident that when all the facts
come out people will see that I'm no criminal."
It took the state of Illinois six long years to get Kelly into the courtroom...and a jury
ultimately found R. Kelly not guilty on all charges.
However, since the case made headlines, he's become the butt of many jokes and has a hard
time living down the stain and comedic hot takes of the allegations.
"Only thing that'll make my life complete is to turn your face into a toilet seat."
Ashlee Simpson
The younger Simpson sister, Ashlee, was well on her way to becoming a popstar in her own
right upon release of her first album, Autobiography.
Her single, "Pieces of Me," was everywhere, and she even had her own reality series.
But as quickly as it had risen, Ashlee's career crashed and burned — all thanks to one bad
televised performance.
During an appearance on Saturday Night Live, Simpson came on stage to perform her second
song of the night, "Autobiography."
But instead, vocals to her previous performance began to play, revealing that she'd been lip-syncing.
"On a Monday, I am waiting.
On a Tuesday, I am fading."
The starlet attempted to save the bumpy performance by dancing, but she eventually left the stage
utterly embarrassed and SNL cut to commercial.
At first, Ashlee didn't cop to the mistake and instead deflected the blame to the band.
She said, "I feel so bad.
My band started playing the wrong song."
Meanwhile, her record label made a statement saying it was all a computer glitch.
Later, she would pin the incident on acid reflux, which had apparently made her voice
hoarse.
Her manager dad Joe Simpson explained: "Just like any artist in America, she has a backing
track that she pushes so you don't have to hear her croak through a song on national
television.
No one wants to hear that."
While she didn't think the snafu caused her career much harm, it was her words in a previous
interview that really smeared the egg in her face.
She'd previously told Lucky Magazine, "I'm totally against it and offended by [lip-synching].
I'm going out to let my real talent show…
Personally, I'd never lip-synch.
It's just not me."
Guess that was one of those pieces of her that came along later.
She's still in the public arena, but her singing career has never really recovered.
But that wasn't the only time some unscripted hijinks on SNL took their toll.
Sinead O'Connor
In 1992, at the top of her music game, Sinead O'Connor sent her career into a tailspin after
a controversial performance on Saturday Night Live.
The singer was performing an a cappella version of Bob Marley's "War" with changed lyrics
to bring attention to the rampant child abuse in the Catholic Church.
At the end of her emotional performance, O'Connor ripped up a photo of Pope John Paul II.
"Fight the real enemy."
And it left audiences stunned.
Years later, she admitted that her decision to smear the Pope was inspired by Bob Geldof,
who ripped up a photo of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John on television.
She explained her thought process, saying, "What if someone ripped up a picture of the
Pope?'
Half of me was just like: 'Jesus, I'd love to just see what'd happen.'"
But O'Connor's career is what was ripped into two in the process.
Talk about a holy upset.
Robin Thicke
Alan Thicke's son, Robin Thicke was on top of the world in 2013.
He had a huge hit, "Blurred Lines," and was set to perform it along with Miley Cyrus on
the MTV Video Music Awards.
While everyone was sure the performance would be something to talk about, few knew it would
be so raunchy and sexually suggestive.
When the performance was complete, the pair caught a lot of flack.
Thicke tried to dodge the drama as if he wasn't in on the over-the-top sexiness…
"In rehearsals it seems a little more playful it seems a little bit more Betty Boop a little
cuter, and I wasn't really part of her performance, you know.
She had already set the stage."
...but his stage partner but the kibosh on the innocent act.
Cyrus told The New York Times, "He acted like he didn't know that was going to happen.
You were in rehearsals!
You knew exactly what was going to happen."
To make matters worse, the internet slammed Thicke's next album, Paula, which was created
to help heal his broken marriage to Paula Patton.
But it all turned out to be a terrible publicity tour that left Thicke crying in videos and
performances.
Thicke told The New York Times that people told him he looked like a sucker and added,
"it hit me that I'd lost my perspective…
What I thought was romantic was just embarrassing."
The album, which did not save his marriage, sold a dismal 48,000 copies by the end of
2014.
Mary J. Blige
Mary J. Blige has forged a durable bond with her fans through decades of songs that make
them feel like they know her on a personal level.
But but even that wasn't enough to help them connect with an ad she'd done for Burger King.
In the spring of 2012, a leaked version of Blige's commercial, showing her singing about
a fried chicken wrap, caused a stir.
The star was accused of playing up racial stereotypes.
While the ad was immediately yanked from the air, the flames were still hot under both
BK and Blige.
It was a mistake she'll never forget.
Months later, Blige spoke up about the matter by saying, "I want to apologize to everyone
that was offended or thought that I would do something so disrespectful to our culture.
I would never do anything like that purposefully.
I thought I was doing something right.
So forgive me."
Upon seeing the video for the first time, Blige recalls being horrified, saying, "Oh
my God, my heart dropped down to my stomach.
I got this sweat and I said, real calm, 'This too shall pass.'
But it just kept getting worse and worse and worse."
"But the thing that hurt me is when people were startin' to say vicious negative things
that didn't have nothing to do with that."
Natalie Maines
Politics and country music are a tough mix — a painful lesson Dixie Chicks' lead singer
Natalie Maines learned in 2003.
The singer received a firestorm of backlash after sayings not-so kind remarks about then-President
George Bush.
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
Almost immediately, the radio stations across Texas began trashing the group's records and
boycotting their act.
Stations also hosted informal polls asking fans if their music should be banned from
airwaves.
In response to the drama, Maines released a statement saying, "We are currently in Europe
and witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war … . I
love my country.
I am a proud American."
Many didn't find her remarks to be remorseful enough, and the band hemorrhaged fans as a
result of the statement.
Years later, though, it looks like the public may be willing to finally forgive them, as
they regroup for a reunion tour.
But the Dixie Chicks of today are but a shadow of the hit-making squad they once were.

ARE BRAZILIANS LATINOS? 🇧🇷 - Duration: 7:45.

Everybody knows
that this song is a big hit in Brazil,
but the question is: why the song
"Despacito" only started to be played
on the radio in Brazil in April if it
was released in January and it's
been a hit in other Latin-American countries
for quite same time now? And following this question comes
the one always asked:
are Brazilians Latinos?
Well, almost always, the issue begins
because the term "Latino" means
different things to different people.
In Brazil, it's very common
to hear people arguing that
Latinos are all those who speak
languages that come from Latin,
so in this case, in addition to
Latin-Americans, those who would also
be considered Latinos are: the Portuguese,
the Spaniards, the Italians, the French, the Romanians,
as well as the Ivory Coastians, the Angolans,
the Equatorians and many other
people in Africa and some in
Asia who also speak languages
that come from Latin.
The term "Latino" probably
had this linguistic meaning
originally, but we have to agree that today,
this definition includes such a
big and heterogenous group that it's difficult to see
a common identity among this group.
The second definition for the term
"Latino," which is the most used today, is
the one that refers to people of
Latin-America origin. So, geographically
speaking, it's clear that we are Latinos;
after all, we're from Latin America.
But what about culturally, politically,
economically and, especially
sentimentally speaking,
are Brazilians really Latinos?
A study done in 2015 by El Centro
de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE)
in Mexico showed that 79% of
the Brazilians interviewed identified themselves
as simply "Brazilians," while
13% identified themselves as "world
citizens" and only 4% identified themselves as
"Latin-Americans."
Among other Latin-American countries, the average of association with the
term "Latin-American" was 43%,
while in Brazil was only 4%.

if you're interested in reading more about it.
Many Brazilians (at least many
Brazilians who live in Brazil) don't
see themselves as Latinos and the evidence
used by those who think that
Brazilians aren't Latinos is
related especially to
the Portuguese colonization of Brazil, to the
fact that we had a process of
Independence that was different from other
Latin-American countries and
especially to the fact that we
speak Portuguese, while most of the
other countries have Spanish as their language.
Another strong argument against the
categorization of Brazilians as
Latinos is the fact that culturally speaking,
Brazil has stronger ties with the United
States, or even Europe, than with
the rest of Latin America.
Going back to the song "Despacito,"
it's unusual to hear songs in Spanish
being played on the radio in Brazil.
It's even more unusual to see a song in
Spanish among the most played,
so Justin Bieber had to be in a remix of the song for it
to enter the Brazilian market.
Television, literature and movies in Spanish
are even less consumed by Brazilians.
The funny thing is that those who do
think that Brazilians are
Latinos use many of the same
arguments used by those who don't think so,
but the other way around. So people who
see the "Latinidad" of Brazilians admit
that the language is different, but not that
different since Brazilians
can understand what people are saying in Spanish
even without having ever studied Spanish.
Besides, they say that
our colonization was Portuguese,
but it was Iberic at the same time,
just like in the rest of Latin America and
also, Brazil was a colony of
exploitation, just like the other
countries in Latin America. In addition,
Brazil is mainly
Catholic, just like the other countries
in Latin America and we are located
in the same hemisphere and the same continent.
When it comes to culture,
many point out that several songs
that were big hits in Brazil
were Brazilian versions of songs
originally sung in Spanish and
vice versa.

Politically and economically speaking,
Brazil and the other countries in Latin
America went through very similar
stages of development,
going through military
dictatorships around the same time,
and they face very similar
socio-economic and political problems
to this day, such as social
inequality, violence, corruption.
I've also found some blogs
of Brazilians living
abroad or who have lived abroad and who
identify themselves as Latinos and they mention
the culture of physical contact, warm
relationships and how easy it is for
Brazilians to make friends with
other Latinos around the world,
so I'll leave some links
for you to check out.
I'm here imagining if that study
about identity had been done with
Brazilians abroad, if the number of
Brazilians who identify as
Latin-Americans would be that low.
Maybe, maybe not.
But this reminded me of a
comment made by a Spaniard classmate of
mine. She said
that when she's in Spain, she
feels more Spaniard or Andalucian (because she's from Seville),
but when she leaves Europe,
she feels more European.
It's important to remember that one identity doesn't cancel
the other out, right? So she can be Spaniard,
she can be Andalucian and she can be European
at the same time, just like we can
be Brazilian and we can be Latino.
And also people from Québec, right?
People from Québec,
they are Canadians, but do they
stop being North-Americans because they
speak French?
And what do you think of

do you consider yourselves Latinos? And those of you
from other Latin-American
countries, do you consider Brazilians Latinos?

Politics and country music are a tough mix — a painful lesson Dixie Chicks' lead singer
Natalie Maines learned in 2003.
The singer received a firestorm of backlash after sayings not-so kind remarks about then-President
George Bush.
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
Almost immediately, the radio stations across Texas began trashing the group's records and
boycotting their act.
Stations also hosted informal polls asking fans if their music should be banned from
airwaves.
In response to the drama, Maines released a statement saying, "We are currently in Europe
and witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war … . I
love my country.
I am a proud American."
Many didn't find her remarks to be remorseful enough, and the band hemorrhaged fans as a
result of the statement.
Years later, though, it looks like the public may be willing to finally forgive them, as
they regroup for a reunion tour.
But the Dixie Chicks of today are but a shadow of the hit-making squad they once were.

What Comic Fans Know About Star-Lord That You Don't - Duration: 4:26.
Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy know one thing for sure: Peter Quill is a pretty gnarly dude.
With a name like Star-Lord, it's pretty much a moral imperative to become a kick-butt space
adventurer.
But is there more to Quill than meets the eye?
Here's what comic fans know about Star-Lord that you don't.
Star-Lord's nickname is ironic
Every hero needs a code-name, even if it's one you make up for yourself that nobody else
uses or has even heard of.
"Star-Lord."
"Who?"
In the comics, though, the name is an ironic one, as Quill's dad is literally a star lord
named J'Son, ruler of Spartax.
He wants Quill to follow in his footsteps, but Quill nopes out of it, keeping the name
as a bit of a middle finger to dad.
Star-Lord has 3 different origin stories
There are two routes you can go with superhero origins.
Either you can have one origin that you retell ten billion times, like Batman and his perpetually
dying parents, or you can just have a whole bunch of different, conflicting origins to
keep things interesting.
That's the case with Star-Lord, who has had three different backstories.
Originally, he was an astronaut who ended up becoming a spacecop.
That was tweaked later, introducing the idea that he joined the galactic pirates known
as the Ravagers before becoming Star-Lord.
And then there's the movie version, which swipes elements from both while giving him
a totally different dad in the form of Kurt Russell.
At least none of Star-Lord's origin stories involve slow motion pearls.
He wasn't originally a Guardian of the Galaxy
When Star-Lord first appeared, he had nothing to do with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
In fact, that's the case for every single one of the film's characters with the exception
of Yondu.
He was one of the original Guardians of the Galaxy when they first debuted way back in
1969.
It wasn't until 2008 that Star-Lord ended up putting together a new team of Guardians
alongside Gamora, Rocket, Groot, and Drax.
"They call themselves The Guardians of the Galaxy."
"What a bunch of a-holes."
Gamora and Peter aren't an item
In the movies, there's a clear will they - won't they flirtation between Star-Lord and Gamora.
But in the comics, you know, not so much.
Gamora has historically been romantically linked to Thanos's archenemy Adam Warlock,
though she also had a thing with the man called Nova, Richard Ryder.
Since he doesn't seem to exist yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that romance is
a long shot on the big screen, but it has a better chance of happening than Peter's
comic book romance with the X-Men's Kitty Pryde.
Since the movie rights to Kitty are tied up at a different movie studio, their love is
tragically doomed.
Hey kids, comics!
One of the great things about comics is that pretty much any random thing the writers can
possibly think of is bound to eventually happen.
So while the adventures of the movie Star-Lord have been pretty weird, the films are nothing
compared to the shenanigans he's gotten up to in the comics.
For instance, at one point he briefly became king of the planet Spartax, while at another
point, he was trapped in an alternate dimension called the Cancerverse where he was unable
to die.
And in a twist the movie version of Peter Quill would no doubt love, in one storyline
he became a professional lounge singer.
Rock on, Star-Lord!
Star-Lord dated his spaceship
Fans of the movie might be aware of the fact that director James Gunn named their ship
The Milano after childhood crush Alyssa Milano.
But in the comics, Star-Lord had a very different ship who was a key part of his adventures
- because the ship was sentient.
Known simply as Ship most of the time, Ship was actually the imprisoned consciousness
of a sentient star named Aurora.
At one point, Ship managed to gain physical form and totally made out with Star-Lord before
her body was destroyed and she just became a starship again.
That's… kind of creepy.
There was another Star-Lord
It might be hard to imagine anyone but Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, but during a brief stint
in the mid-'90s, a totally different character took up the name.
While Peter Quill was out of action, a psychic space cop named Sinjin Quarrel found Ship
and Star-Lord's gear and basically appropriated everything for himself.
Apparently when it comes to superhero codenames, finders keepers, losers weepers.
"Hey!
If it isn't Star-Prince."
"It's Star-Lord."
"Oh, sorry.
Lord.
I picked this guy up awhile back for petty theft.
He's got a codename!"

Last episode I drew Muhammed.
This was not out of religious intolerance or because I wanted to be offensive.
It was because censorship is wrong.
If you don't think it's okay to draw Muhammed, then YOU don't do it.
But do not take away other people's rights to their freedom of speech.
Because Free Speech is the bedrock of all liberties.
Free speech is the people's defence against bad government.
Politicians who err should be subjected to unfettered criticism.
When critics are censored it helps authoritarian regimes justify their injustice and intolerance.
As Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen pointed out "no democracy with a free press ever
endured famine".
Freedom of speech is the spearhead of understanding, taboos the enemy of understanding.
When China's government orders economists to offer optimistic forecasts, it guarantees
its own policy makers will be ill-informed.
When we can no longer freely to discuss amongst each other it results in no longer understanding
our fellow human beings and the world around us.
It will lead to misinformation and mismanagement, disunity and suppression.
Free speech is the engine on which science runs.
Imagine if never Galileo questioned the Church's belief that the Earth was in the centre of
the universe.
Imagine if Isaac Newton was never allowed to create his theory on gravity?
What if Einstein was forbidden from creating his theory of general relativity?
Do we truly want to live in a world where our ideas are not questioned?
Where someone we've never met tells us what to say, what to feel, and what to think?
Freedom of speech is the right to sometimes say things that other people don't like.
It is accepting that, even though you don't agree with someone, you still allow them to
say it.
No person, no religion, no idea is so important that we can usurp the rights of another human
being.
Of course, there are limits to freedom of speech: child pornography, bullying, or shouting
to an angry mob outside a synagogue should never be allowed.
Freedom of speech is about expressing your opinion, not about hurting people or inciting
violence.
Answer objectionable speech with more speech.
Win the argument without resorting to force.
And never try to silence views you disagree with.
Some of you might say "what is stopping anyone from discrimination?
What if people could once again pick up the Nazi flag?
What if we could once again openly discriminate?"
Freedom of Speech defends itself.
When you are racist, sexist, or homophobic there will be a backlash of those pointing
out how bad discrimination is.
In the USA, black people were discriminated based on the colour of their skin.
This led to millions of people speaking out against discrimination.
Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks used their freed speech to combat hatred.
In India, Gandhi used his freedom of speech to bring to light the immoral actions of the
British to the world.
He fought the British hatred with peaceful speech and in doing so liberated his homeland.
We must be allowed to say offensive things because at one point the notion of equal rights
for all ethnicities was offensive, the notion of equal rights for women was once offensive,
and the notion of equal rights for LGBT people is still offensive to many.
When the first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied.
It changes us all irrevocably.
The first time anyone's freedom is trodden on.
We are all damaged.
Surrendering our freedom of choice, usurping the rights of another, submitting ourselves
to censorship.
That is true evil and we can never submit to evil!

Musicians Who Ruined Their Career In A Matter Of Seconds - Duration: 8:55.Musicians can be on top of the charts one day and in the tabloid headlines the next.
Like anyone else, these musically gifted artists are susceptible to drama and mistakes — sometimes,
even earning jail time.
Unfortunately, they aren't usually given second chances by the public, even if the courts
are merciful.
Here are some music stars who ruined their careers, possibly for good, with one wrong
move.
Chris Brown
By 2009, Chris Brown had earned his throne atop the R&B and pop charts and quickly became
a fixture in headlines as his relationship was Rihanna was heating up.
But everything came to a screeching halt on February 8, 2009.
After attending a pre-Grammy party, things between the two turned hellish as they argued
over a sexual text message Chris received from another woman, and the conflict escalated
to violence.
Chris assaulted the pop star, leaving her battered and bruised, and Chris was officially
charged with felony assault and felony criminal threats.
He was later sentenced to five years probation and 1,400 hours of labor service.
And he'll forever be condemned by the court of public opinion as a result of his actions.
R. Kelly
In the '90s, R. Kelly was the king of R&B — until his scandal made headlines.
His sometimes raunchy sex-life, as depicted in his lyrics, came too close to home when
he was accused of a heinous crime in 2002.
Kelly was indicted on 21 counts of child --------- and a tape surfaced allegedly showing Kelly
having --- with a minor.
He faced a $100,000 fine and 15 years in prison.
If convicted, he would become a registered sex offender.
In a statement, he said, "Even though I do not believe any of the charges are warranted,
I'm grateful that I will have a chance to establish the truth about me in a court of
law.
I have complete faith in our system of justice, and I am confident that when all the facts
come out people will see that I'm no criminal."
It took the state of Illinois six long years to get Kelly into the courtroom...and a jury
ultimately found R. Kelly not guilty on all charges.
However, since the case made headlines, he's become the butt of many jokes and has a hard
time living down the stain and comedic hot takes of the allegations.
"Only thing that'll make my life complete is to turn your face into a toilet seat."
Ashlee Simpson
The younger Simpson sister, Ashlee, was well on her way to becoming a popstar in her own
right upon release of her first album, Autobiography.
Her single, "Pieces of Me," was everywhere, and she even had her own reality series.
But as quickly as it had risen, Ashlee's career crashed and burned — all thanks to one bad
televised performance.
During an appearance on Saturday Night Live, Simpson came on stage to perform her second
song of the night, "Autobiography."
But instead, vocals to her previous performance began to play, revealing that she'd been lip-syncing.
"On a Monday, I am waiting.
On a Tuesday, I am fading."
The starlet attempted to save the bumpy performance by dancing, but she eventually left the stage
utterly embarrassed and SNL cut to commercial.
At first, Ashlee didn't cop to the mistake and instead deflected the blame to the band.
She said, "I feel so bad.
My band started playing the wrong song."
Meanwhile, her record label made a statement saying it was all a computer glitch.
Later, she would pin the incident on acid reflux, which had apparently made her voice
hoarse.
Her manager dad Joe Simpson explained: "Just like any artist in America, she has a backing
track that she pushes so you don't have to hear her croak through a song on national
television.
No one wants to hear that."
While she didn't think the snafu caused her career much harm, it was her words in a previous
interview that really smeared the egg in her face.
She'd previously told Lucky Magazine, "I'm totally against it and offended by [lip-synching].
I'm going out to let my real talent show…
Personally, I'd never lip-synch.
It's just not me."
Guess that was one of those pieces of her that came along later.
She's still in the public arena, but her singing career has never really recovered.
But that wasn't the only time some unscripted hijinks on SNL took their toll.
Sinead O'Connor
In 1992, at the top of her music game, Sinead O'Connor sent her career into a tailspin after
a controversial performance on Saturday Night Live.
The singer was performing an a cappella version of Bob Marley's "War" with changed lyrics
to bring attention to the rampant child abuse in the Catholic Church.
At the end of her emotional performance, O'Connor ripped up a photo of Pope John Paul II.
"Fight the real enemy."
And it left audiences stunned.
Years later, she admitted that her decision to smear the Pope was inspired by Bob Geldof,
who ripped up a photo of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John on television.
She explained her thought process, saying, "What if someone ripped up a picture of the
Pope?'
Half of me was just like: 'Jesus, I'd love to just see what'd happen.'"
But O'Connor's career is what was ripped into two in the process.
Talk about a holy upset.
Robin Thicke
Alan Thicke's son, Robin Thicke was on top of the world in 2013.
He had a huge hit, "Blurred Lines," and was set to perform it along with Miley Cyrus on
the MTV Video Music Awards.
While everyone was sure the performance would be something to talk about, few knew it would
be so raunchy and sexually suggestive.
When the performance was complete, the pair caught a lot of flack.
Thicke tried to dodge the drama as if he wasn't in on the over-the-top sexiness…
"In rehearsals it seems a little more playful it seems a little bit more Betty Boop a little
cuter, and I wasn't really part of her performance, you know.
She had already set the stage."
...but his stage partner but the kibosh on the innocent act.
Cyrus told The New York Times, "He acted like he didn't know that was going to happen.
You were in rehearsals!
You knew exactly what was going to happen."
To make matters worse, the internet slammed Thicke's next album, Paula, which was created
to help heal his broken marriage to Paula Patton.
But it all turned out to be a terrible publicity tour that left Thicke crying in videos and
performances.
Thicke told The New York Times that people told him he looked like a sucker and added,
"it hit me that I'd lost my perspective…
What I thought was romantic was just embarrassing."
The album, which did not save his marriage, sold a dismal 48,000 copies by the end of
2014.
Mary J. Blige
Mary J. Blige has forged a durable bond with her fans through decades of songs that make
them feel like they know her on a personal level.
But but even that wasn't enough to help them connect with an ad she'd done for Burger King.
In the spring of 2012, a leaked version of Blige's commercial, showing her singing about
a fried chicken wrap, caused a stir.
The star was accused of playing up racial stereotypes.
While the ad was immediately yanked from the air, the flames were still hot under both
BK and Blige.
It was a mistake she'll never forget.
Months later, Blige spoke up about the matter by saying, "I want to apologize to everyone
that was offended or thought that I would do something so disrespectful to our culture.
I would never do anything like that purposefully.
I thought I was doing something right.
So forgive me."
Upon seeing the video for the first time, Blige recalls being horrified, saying, "Oh

Healthcare in Germany - Duration: 5:13.
My patron Hauke suggested that I spend a video talking about healthcare in Germany.
Which, to me, didn't sound like the kind of thing you'd want to listen to for four or five minutes.
But actually, there are some important things to say about it.
German health insurance goes back to the year 1883
and Chancellor Otto von Bismarck —
you know, the hardline, strict, authoritarian, warmongering politician
who united most German-speaking territories into a single nation state.
He created a system whereby factory workers earning less than a certain amount
were able to get health insurance.
At the time, that was about 10% of the population;
but since then more and more people have been included,
and so here we are 130 years later.
There are two types of health insurance:
Which type of insurance you get will depend on
the type of job you have and some other complicated factors.
If you are employed by a company — that is, you are on their payroll —
you may be eligible for statutory health insurance.
How much you pay depends on how much you earn.
Your employer pays a share,
and the rest is automatically deducted from your wages or salary
so you don't have to do a thing.
The insurance company, known as "Krankenkasse" in Germany,
issues you with a card.
When you go to the doctor or dentist or hospital, you present this card
and that's all you need to worry about:
no fuss, you get your treatment and your medication,
and the insurance company pays for it.
Some other groups of people also get statutory health insurance:
those registered as unemployed, for example.
Their premiums are paid by the relevant government agencies.
Private insurance is for everybody else.
It's a normal insurance policy,
so how much you pay will depend on how much of a risk you are.
The younger and fitter you are when you join, the lower your premiums will be.
If you need medical treatment, you state that you are privately insured.
You later get an invoice, which you pay,
and then claim back from the insurance company.
If it's very expensive you can usually arrange to pay in installments.
If you know in advance that you're going to need expensive treatment,
then your doctor or dentist can give you a breakdown of all the expected costs,
which you can send to the insurance company
and they'll tell you what they're prepared to cover.
This whole system — the insurance companies, the hospitals,
the doctors, the nurses, the dentists and so on,
is not run by the government.
This avoids the pitfall of, for example, the British National Health Service,
which is a vast bureaucracy
and swallows a massive 18% of the government's entire budget.
Instead, it's delegated to various non-government associations and companies,
but they are very carefully regulated by government.
The German constitution puts the federal government in charge of the broad policies,
but not the day-to-day running.
This, then, avoids the pitfall of, for example, the American system,
where health insurance can be very expensive
and you suddenly discover you're not covered for something very important and very expensive,
and everything is run for profit.
Health insurance in Germany is a statutory requirement;
which does make it sound as if not getting health insurance will land you in jail,
but that's not the case.
What it means is that statutory health insurance companies
must accept people who can't get private insurance.
If you have no insurance, you're not breaking the law;
but eventually you'll be asked to pay all the premiums you should have paid, but didn't.
Unfortunately, I've never been seriously ill...
...which is a very weird sentence to be saying.
Unfortunately, I've never been seriously ill,
so I can't give you the benefit of any first-hand experience
of German hospital care.
But it does have a generally good reputation.
And while it's not perfect, it does normally give you access to good quality healthcare.
And whatever your income, you should be able to easily afford it.
I think that counts as a success.

Alright, here's the thing.
I have this really controversial opinion that poor people deserve nice things every once in awhile.
I think poor people don't have to be constantly suffering and struggling.
I don't know why that's controversial, but here we are.
You've probably seen these graphics from Fox News that everyone made fun of a few years
ago, where they were saying that poor people aren't "really" poor if they have refrigerators
and microwaves.
More recently, you may have heard about bills being proposed to stop poor people from spending
food stamp money on soda, fast food, steak, lobster, all that kind of stuff -- or programs
being put in place to drug test welfare recipients.
To me, it seems like all of this stuff kinda stems from like two ideas; the first is that
poor people have to be in a constant state of suffering to really be poor.
So if they have any kind of nice thing in their life, they're suddenly not poor and
shouldn't be allowed to receive any kind of government assistance.
The second part of this is that people think they're entitled to morally dictate the
lives of welfare recipients because technically they're being paid with taxpayer money.
For the first part of that, I think people just have no concept of what it's like to be poor.
Like, a refridgerator is a pretty basic amenity in the US.
You kinda need it to store food.
I can imagine like 500 scenarios where someone has a refrigerator and is still struggling financially.
It's not like a fridge is some opulent sign of wealth.
You could easily be living paycheck to paycheck, barely being able to afford your rent, and
eating instant ramen for dinner every night -- while still living in an apartment with a fridge.
But that's not the only thing -- like, a lot of poor families have cars.
A car is often a necessity in areas that don't have a good public transportation system,
and lots of jobs even discriminate against people who don't have a reliable form of transportation.
So if a person or a family is able to save up for a car somehow, that doesn't automatically
mean they're not poor anymore.
You can be struggling financially and have some old beat up car that you use to get to work.
Things that may have once been luxuries are now relatively accessible.
Like smartphones for instance.
Lots of people seem to think that anyone who can afford a smartphone is not poor.
But not every smartphone is a $700 iPhone.
In fact, you can buy a smartphone on Amazon for like $50 now.
And actually, lots of poor people rely on smartphones for accessing the internet.
Because in the US in 2017, you really need access to the internet to be able to function
as a part of modern society.
Internet access is essential for finding jobs and paying bills and doing your taxes and
just generally keeping up with everything that's going on.
But even if someone has a cheap smartphone, an old car, and a refrigerator, it's not
like they're suddenly middle-class or wealthy.
You can have all of those things and still have a job that barely pays enough to cover your rent.
I don't know what people expect?
Like everyone who has a roof over their head is financially secure?
That's just not reality.
Financial security requires a lot more than a refrigerator.
It requires higher wages.
Because that's what being poor is, it's an income level.
That's it.
And if people wanna splurge on some things using their very limited income, they have
every right to do that.
If someone manages to spend less money on certain things so that they can afford a nicer
car or a nicer smartphone, that's up them.
We all prioritize our money differently.
Some people spend more money on entertainment like video games and movies and going out,
others spend more money on their clothes or their makeup or their car.
People are different and will prioritize things differently -- even if they're working with
very limited resources.
I hate the idea that poor people all have to live the exact same life where they eat
beans and rice and instant ramen everyday and never splurge on anything and are constantly
working and working and working to earn more money.
People, regardless of their income level, deserve to feel joy sometimes.
People deserve to relax and have some time to themselves.
If someone has a bad day and wants to get McDonalds on the way home from work rather
than cooking an entire meal at home, that's their business.
If someone wants to relax after a long week at work by buying a video game or going out
with friends, they have every right to do that.
Poor people shouldn't have to be in a constant struggle, suffering all day every day for
their experiences to be valid.
Lots of people who are in a really tough spot financially will spend money on stuff that
makes them feel good, and that's okay, because people aren't robots.
You can't expect people to never want to treat themselves.
Mentally, we need to feel good every once in awhile, we need to take care of ourselves,
and sometimes that requires spending money on things that aren't technically "necessary"
for survival but are very necessary for living.
And those things are subjective.
Everyone has different things that they like and will spend money on.
But okay, so maybe you're okay with poor people spending their "own" money on that,
but what about when they're on welfare?
Cause then they're spending "your" money.
When we talk about welfare, we're usually talking about food stamps through the SNAP
program or income assistance through the TANF program.
Both of these things are relatively small chunks of the federal budget, but they're
definitely still taxpayer-funded.
So shouldn't we have a say in exactly what poor people can buy with the money that's
given to them through those programs?
No. Of course not.
Because those people still deserve autonomy in how they choose to spend their money.
It sounds really dystopian to imagine a society where rich people spend their money however
they want while giving a small percentage of their money to poor people and then dictating
exactly how those poor people can spend their money because of that.
Like, your employer, just because they pay you, isn't allowed to tell you what kind
of food to buy or what kind of stuff you're allowed to spend money on.
The same goes for taxpayers and welfare recipients.
But, at the end of the day, I know this isn't about following the money.
It's about poor people.
Because without counting military personnel, the government employs almost 3 million people.
That includes US Postal Service workers, judges, congresspeople, and even the President.
So it's weird that we have different standards for poor people being paid by taxpayer money
and federal employees being paid by taxpayer money.
Maybe instead of worrying about if poor people are spending their fixed monthly welfare money
on a $2 soda, we could instead worry about Trump's $1-3 million dollar trips to his golf
course every weekend.
Our maybe we could require that all federal employees, including congresspeople, be paid
minimum wage and not be allowed to buy anything except rice and beans and instant ramen.
I mean, obviously we shouldn't do that, but can't you see how ridiculous it sounds
that everyone paid by taxpayer money has to live like that?
Oh, and one last thing.
Drug testing welfare recipients.
Every program that has ever been put in place to do that has actually cost taxpayers more
money because testing is expensive and they rarely ever catch anyone.
I don't think I need to make a lengthy argument about that; the data is pretty clear.
But just on a moral level, I think it's wrong to deny someone money that they need
for food or rent just because they smoke weed or something like that.
Get over it.
Let people live their lives.
So yeah, basically, it's just not your job to tell other people how they spend their money.
Everyone, including poor people, deserves to be able to spend their money on whatever
makes them happy.
You know, the pursuit of happiness and all that.

work like the cannon works at the beginning of the game but and I can show
you this because I actually have it on my Kindle screen right now okay which is
why I'm shooting this video right now once he catches you you're supposed to
just like shoot like you shoot the cannon at the beginning which means you
just touch the screen let go and he shoots he won't do anything let me show
you what I'm talking about okay as you can see I lose his arm
he is breathing but you can touch the screen
you can move him up and down but nothing okay you come
nothing nothing happens when we touch he won't shoot no matter where you touch on
the screen he will not shoot you back out so if
anybody out there has any clue on how to make that robot shoot you back out of
his arm please let me know okay because honestly once I reach this part all I
can do is in the game because I can't make him shoot so if anybody out there
knows how to make the robot shoot you back out of his arm please let me know
because it's really irritating to be in the middle of a game and this guy catch
you and then you just have to end the game because he won't shoot so is there
a tip is there a trick and I'm not doing something right guys anybody out there
that happens to know please please let me know okay and if you haven't tried
this game super toss the turtle give it a try
it is totally completely addictive and I love it and I'm really glad that my son
talked me into playing it okay but that is going to do it for now this is
ICEPETS Queen and I am tripping out
