This is the intermediate course, class 03
Today we're going to talk about the Present Perfect again
So this is the third class about the Present Perfect
I want to tell you about three characteristics of the Present Perfect
In the first class I talked about how we use the Present Perfect
to talk about something that happened in the past
when the time is not relevant
For example: "I've been to Japan"
when I was in Japan doesn't matter
the time is not important. The action is more important than when it happened
Example: "I've eaten". I'm not hungry right now because "I have eaten"

In the second class, we talked about how we use the Present Perfect to talk about something that started in the past and it continues
Example: "I started my career as a translator in 2013"
and it's 2017 right now and I'm still a translator.....
so I have been a translator for five years
I met my best friend in 2010
and we are still friends, so...
I have known my best friend for 7 years... I have known my best friend since 2010
So, it's something that started in the past and is still reality at this moment, so...
so we use the Present Perfect for that

Today we're going to talk about the third characteristc of the Present Perfect
We use the Present Perfect when the TIME EXPRESSION that we are using is UNFINISHED
What is an UNFINISHED TIME EXPRESSION?
Ok, let's compare these two different kinds of time expressions
the FINISHED and UNFINISHED time expressions
for example "yesterday" is finished
because we CAN'T go back to yesterday. We can't go back in time
YET
We can't go back in time so "yesterday" is a finished time expression
whereas TODAY is unfinished because
the day today isn't over, so...
it's unfinished
so any time you use an unfinished time expression like TODAY, you need to use the PRESENT PERFECT
For example "I drank a lot last week"
I drank a lot yesterday
I drank a lot yesterday
YESTERDAY is finished
so we use the SIMPLE PAST
I DRANK a lot YESTERDAY
But if I use the time expression: TODAY
I must use the PRESENT PERFECT
I have drunk a lot today
I'm going to give you more examples of UNFINISHED TIME EXPRESSIONS:
Examples of FINISHED TIME EXPRESSIONS:
So let's compare:
I feel that I'm a little bit fat. I'VE EATEN A LOT THIS WEEK
I ate a lot of sushi LAST WEEK
I've eaten a lot this week
I didn't take a shower YESTERDAY
I haven't taken a shower TODAY
The PRESENT PERFECT is used when the possibility is still open. I can still take a shower today
The day is not over
I haven't taken a shower today (yet)
But maybe later
But I didn't take a shower yesterday. It's over!
I can't go back in time and take a shower yesterday
it's impossible
So we use the simple past
I didn't take a shower yesterday
I haven't taken a shower today
so this is the third characteristic of the present perfect

don't think personally it's the best
decision for me to make right now and
the reason behind that is a good example
I haven't started my vlog until about 5
p.m. today and the reason I haven't

this yet but I mean if you guys watch
previous old vlogs you would know this
but I suffer from anxiety and depression
this morning I had like a mental
breakdown I didn't really know what to
do I haven't had my antidepressant
medicine in the past couple days I had
to get it refilled and I just had so
much stuff going on in my mind that I
had no time to think about trying to get
it refilled and by the time I thought
about it getting refilled I was way too
late and I thought like wait for the
next day and all that stuff so I just
had like a complete mental breakdown
this morning I was just like I don't
know what to do like I have so much on
my mind right now I have so much behind
the scene stuff that I'm working on that
I really can't vlog and tell you guys
about yet like one of those things also
includes going on tour so I mean
possibly going on tour the summer to
like meet all you guys need different
states and even possibly in different
countries which would be pretty dope so
that's something we're currently working
on the house is definitely something
that would stress me out a little bit
- because if I was to get a house I
would have to move out of here by July
because that's where my lease is up and
that's such a short time period for me
to try and figure out exactly what house
I want to move in like of course we
found a couple of houses that we like
but the one got moved into by a family
and the other house was like it was
super nice but it's really expensive and
I don't feel like I should blow that
much money on a house just because I'm
trying to make better content like
obviously it would help so much but I
don't feel like it's worth it in the end
no matter where you are you can make
good content I don't think having a
house is going to make it that much more
better I feel like it would help but I
don't think that that's going to be the
key for me making better content overall
so here's Ultimo neol what I'm going to
do I'm going to renew my lease here for
the next year try and get my mindset
right and just try not to stress so much
about little things the thing with
depression and anxiety as you literally
stress out so much about the tiniest
thing it could be something as simple as
like my video not performing the way I
wanted to like maybe maybe I had such
high hopes for a video I'm like oh my
gosh
I just did a prank I think it's like
super viral worthy and then the video
does completely terrible and my hopes
and dreams of that video like performing
a certain way just gets crushed and it
makes me stressed out and it just like
ruins my mood for the rest of the day
that used to happen all the time
especially when I created vine videos
because back then I wasn't on an
antidepressant medicine and I wasn't
getting that extra help that I needed
so I mean recently of course being on
this medicine has helped me so much and
it keeps my mind focused on stuff that
isn't going to make me super stressed
out I don't know exactly how it works or
what it does but I know in the ultimate
end that it does help me so I guess my
overall point of this conversation is I
wanted to let you guys know that one we
are working on a tour - I get super
stressed out super easily and I'm just
trying my best to do like 40 million
things at once and I want you guys to
understand that if my vlogs are late
some days or my vlogs aren't as long as
they used to be that there's a reason
behind it and like I'm just doing way
too much at once like way too much for
one single person to do so I'm just
trying my best with that and the other
thing is we do want to find a house but
at this time I don't think it's the best
time any years time it might be better
to come back and like try and think
about exactly what
do but for right now we are going to
keep this apartment I'm going to renew
my lease today so I just want to update
you guys with all that the way my older
vlogs used to be I would sit here and I
would just talk to you guys I would talk
to you a lot like one day at least one
day out of the week I would just sit
down and talk to you guys like what's
going on in my life how I'm feeling how
everything is going and I feel like I
haven't done that in a super long time
and I've just been focused so hard and
just trying to entertain you guys every
single possible way that I can but I
haven't been as real with you guys as I
used to be and I kind of want to
incorporate that more into like my more
recent videos and try and get back to
that because I feel like it does give
you guys insight as like what's going on
in my life and that I am a normal person
regardless if I have followers on social
media see what I don't like about this
whole Hollywood thing is like everybody
think that because they had followers on
social media that they're like
automatically a god like that's not my
perception of a reality like I know that
it's cool to have like followers on
social media like you guys watched my
videos you guys support me every single
day but that doesn't change the way I
feel and think inside like I'm just your
average Joe off the street like it
doesn't matter who I am so like I want
to let you guys know that every normal
issue that an average person will run
into I have that same issue like I like
stressing issues things not going the
way you plan them to I don't know I just
I don't want to keep going on and on a
rambling about this but I want you guys
to know that I'm just like any normal
person and things stressed me out just
like everybody else we're gonna go on a
little border ride right now Christa's
boards got done charging up get it it's
so weird because it just turns seven
o'clock and it feels like I'm just
getting my day started I never feel that
way it's so weird I thought I was on the
road for a second
completely revamping the whole area
there is to be a trash bin in that
corner some work wall that's about it
did that hurt oh god doesn't look so
obnoxiously loud this is why I love
Kristen see always the stupid for no
reason it's great it's funny the weird
thing about LA is that it could be so
burning hot early in the day but then
around the time like 6 7 o'clock it
becomes the total opposite like it's
actually a little chilly and it feels
great but that never happens anywhere
else that I've gone to at least like
back in Jersey batad during the day it's
pretty hot at night - not nearly as hot
but it's still hot out here is just like
either hot or cold why does somebody
just hide like a suitcase back here so I
just thought no one was gonna see it but
we we saw it right away
he won't stop he's not always chasing
someone else guys he's onto him he's
gonna get him all right so this is Frank
and he's got a boosted board but I all
know him he's running a wreck he's going
around with his baby it's the cutest

When people think Grand Theft Auto
it's all jacking cars, robbing banks
dodging cops, and bowling with your obnoxious cousin
who won't shut the hell up ever.
Niko, it's Roman. Let's go bowling.
However, there's something more to GTA than killing hookers
and that's solving the series' iconic mysteries.
I'm Dave Control with ArcadeCloud
and today, we'll be counting down
the top mysteries found in Grand Theft Auto V.
Let's put the pedal to the metal.
Ratman.
Ratman was one of the most popular
unsolved mysteries of Grand Theft Auto IV
and he made his grand return in Grand Theft Auto V
allegedly, of course.
He's a half-man, half-rat creature
that prowled the sewers of Liberty City.
Every now and again, he'll blow his cover
and shout, "I am Ratman!"
Don't let these familiar attributes fool you.
Ratman is not the hero this city needs
nor is he the one it deserves.
He's a feral monster that attacks any homeless person
or playable protagonist
foolish enough to get in his way.
When he relocated to Los Santos
Ratman began hanging around more areas than just the sewers.
Players claim they have sighted this affront to nature
amongst Los Santos's homeless communities
beneath freeways and in maintenance tunnels.
It's been said that if you traverse
the sewers long enough, you may hear strange laughter
come from behind the grimy walls.
Thanks to the legend of the Ratman
some of Los Santos's less glamorous environments
have become quite popular to explore.
Whether or not risking disease
and walking in toilet water for hours on end is worth it
remains to be seen.
Ghost on the mountain.
A horrible crime may
or may not have been committed on Mount Gordon
the proof, if you visit the top of the mountain at 2300
a woman's ghost will appear on a ledge
for exactly one minute before disappearing.
Unlike other mysteries
we know for a fact that this ghost does exist.
If you walk over to where the ghost was floating
you'll find the name Jock written in blood on the stone
which refers to the actor-turned-politician
and all-around @#$%! Jock Cranley.
In his younger days
Jock aspired to move to Los Santos
and become a stuntman
but his wife Jolene objected
and ultimately kept him from his dreams.
Rumour has it that while on a hike through the mountains
with his old ball and chain
Jock pushed Jolene off of the mountain to her death.
Jock was arrested but later released.
So the question remains, did Jock kill Jolene?
If so, how did he dodge jail time?
Is the bloody name on the mountain a hoax
concocted by his political opponents?
If only Jock had written a book
about how he would have hypothetically murdered his wife
and got away with it
this mystery may have been solved.
Underwater hatch.
Off the coast of San Andreas is a hatch emitting a yellow glow.
It bears a not insignificant resemblance
to the hatch from the show Lost
no polar bears here though.
It may not look like much
but the hatch kills the player if they get close enough to it.
Why is anybody's guess.
If you get close enough to this aquatic anomaly
you'll hear faint noises you can translate via tap code.
Tap code is the hipster version of Morse code.
When deciphered, the message reads, "Hey, you never call.
How'd you fancy going bowling?"
We don't know the exact origin of the hatch
but if Niko Bellic's cousin found his way in there
we hope he never has a chance to escape.
So why did you do this to me?
Let's go bowling.
Charles Manson's house.
A mini history lesson for you
the 1960s brought about
the prominence of Charles Manson
the leader of the Manson Family
which consisted of 18 other women
living in a house with him.
Manson's cult killed seven women.
The authorities charged Manson
with conspiracy to commit murder
earning him nine life sentences in prison
where he remains to this day.
In the Vinewood Hills of GTA
you can find graffiti on the wall that reads "1807"
with an arrow directing the player up the hill.
The 18 represents how many women lived with Manson
while the 07 represents his cult's kill count.
If you follow the arrow,
you'll encounter a luxurious home
that bears some resemblance to the house
of the Manson Family's most famous victim
actress Sharon Tate.
You can find people partying in the backyard.
And if you brush up next to them, they'll die.
It's unknown if the player's character
is cursed with a touch of death
or if the people that inhabit the party
are apparitions of the victims that perished on the property.
Maybe they partied too hard
and you came along at the exact wrong time.
I mean, I'm not one to judge.
The Pistol Grave.
The Vinewood Cemetery has an open grave.
Open but not empty because at the bottom rests a pistol.
Fans speculate that
it's a reference to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
In that game's story
protagonist Carl Johnson
lost his mother to a drive-by at the hands
of the Ballas gang.
CJ decides that he would like to bury his mother in Los Santos.
In San Andreas, her grave remained open
for a lot of the game adding credence to the theory.
That or maybe Rockstar wanted players
to be able to nab a free gun
from the creepiest place possible.
The Native American tribe.
Tongva Hills may also house a Native American tribe
unseen by modern society.
One of the first hints is a totem pole
featuring an owl perched at the top
and a sign placed atop it reading, "Two Hoots Falls".
If you're convinced
this is something more of a hiking trail attraction
keep traversing the woods until you find a cave
that looks to have been cleared out
in order to be inhabited by something or someone.
The walls of this particular cave are darkened
almost as if they were burned by fire.
At night, in the same area
players have reported hearing
the sounds of the natives around them
from the rustling of bushes
to footsteps, to creepy ominous whispers
from off in the distance.
According to fan theories regarding this tribe
they've evaded the reach of foreign oppressors
for generations
and find that the best way to do so
is to keep out of their sight
and live in secretive hiding their entire life.
Now that is some master-level hide and seek right there!
Impeding zombie apocalypse.
In Lester's house, you can see
that he's got quite a few allusions
to zombies on his wall
but this doesn't appear to be out of an appreciation
for George Romero films.
If you look hard enough
you'll find two archived boxes he has stored.
One labelled "Assassinations",
which the player can take on in the game
while the other is labelled "Zombie Outbreaks".
Considering how on top of everything Lester is
he probably has a hunch that the zombies
will soon inherit the earth
and has spent time preparing for the worst
with a file folder full of secret plans.
'Cause you never know, just like that...
Another question remains
where will the zombies come from?
Fan theories point to Humane Labs and Research
a mysterious organisation that fans also believe
is responsible for other GTA V mysteries like Ratman.
Many speculate that they developed a zombie virus.
These theories propose that the zombie virus
is the package that Michael
steals in the mission Monkey Business.
When the coroners are examining Michael's dead body
in the mission Dead Man Walking
they seriously believe that Michael
is reanimating when he wakes up.
This particular moment leads us to think
that either reanimation and zombies
are a plausible concept in the GTA universe
or these guys are just, you know, idiots.
The Jackal.
Oftentimes, players find themselves wandering the cruel
and unforgiving desert landscape only to die out of nowhere.
One of these explanations
is the presence of jackals in the game.
But these aren't your average jackals, oh, no.
Those who have encountered this beast
claim that it can easily be identified
by the disturbing and unique noise it makes
which sounds like something akin to a demon mixed with a dog.
This is actually pretty funny
when you realise that jackals
have been used as a symbol of Satan
and death throughout Christian mythology.
In the very off chance
you happen to find it or it finds you
you have basically no hope of ending it
before it can end you.
This is all thanks to the fact
that the jackal runs at supernatural speeds so high
and it kills the players so quickly
it seems like you've died of a heart attack.
To make matters more challenging in regards to both survival
and proving the @#$%! thing exists
theorists claim that the creature will not appear
if you're sporting an invincibility cheat.
Despite a lack of solid visual evidence over the years
the vast amount of animals featured in the game show
that it's not that far of a stretch
to believe that a jackal is hiding out there
somewhere in the game's code
waiting to ruin your desert trek.
