LED Continuous Lights vs Strobes for Photography - which is the best studio lighting solution? - Duration: 8:59.LED this, LED that, hybrid lighting, cri, constant vs strobe….. are you getting a
headache from all these headlines and videos and kickstarter campaigns about these revolutionary
new lighting gadgets?
Is it causing you stress because you are going to have to spend a ton of money to keep up
your status as GEARtographer?
Relax… first let's break this down and look at the practical differences between
continuous LED lighting and strobes.
Then over the next few videos I am going to put some of these new LED lights to the test
and show you how I would use them so that hopefully - you can make better decisions
before you run out and spend your hard earned dollars.
Stay tuned.
Hey gang!
My name is Joe Edelman and my mission is to help photographers like YOU to develop a solid
understanding of the HOWS & WHYS behind great photography so that you can achieve your goals
as a photographer.
LED Lighting for photography has come a very long way in the last few years and all indications
are that LED's will be the future of photographic and video lighting - and thats a good thing
- I promise.
The real questions right now are do you really understand the differences between continuous
lighting and strobes or speedlights?
Why would you use one instead of the other?
If you are a new photographer which type of lighting should you start with?
Strobes or flashes do just that - they flash.
The light doesn't stay on all the time.
When you are using a flash as your light source the duration of that flash will be anywhere
from an average of 1/1000 of a second to as fast as 1/10,000 second or more and most cameras
will synchronize with the flash up to a shutter speed of anywhere from 1/60th to 1/300th of
a second and cameras that support high speed sync will of course go even higher.
Just in case you are just starting out and don't quite understand the difference between
flash duration and sync speed.
The simple explanation is this.
Flash duration is the amount of time the flash is outputting light.
Always very fast.
As I mentioned generally between 1/1000th of a second to 1/10,000th of a second or even
faster
The sync speed is the fastest shutter speed that will allow your cameras shutter to open
and the flash to fully illuminate your scene before the shutter begins to close.
The brightness of the flash units combined with their extremely fast speed makes flash
a great solution for situations where you need to be able to stop fast action like this
shot of my model and me in mid-air.
Flash is also great for situations where you want to overpower ambient light - like the
sun and have your subject appear brighter than the natural setting.
Flash is also ideal for situations where you need or want to use articifial lighting but
you can't place it close to your subject.
The higher powered flash units will be able to reach and light your subject more efficiently
like you see in this basketball arena that I lit with four high powered studio strobes.
Speedlight strobes work on batteries, external battery packs and in some cases AC power.
Studio strobes generally are designed to work on AC power, but many new brands will work
on external battery packs or even replaceable lithium-ion batteries.
Speedlights are generally silent except for the pop when they flash.
Studio strobes usually have fans so they do add a noise factor to your shoot.
You can also find more modifiers for strobes at this point, but I have no doubt that will
LED's will catchup as the technology takes hold.
You also will need a trigger to fire your strobes remotely and a flash meter is the
best way to set exposure.
Constant LED lights - don't flash.
They are on all the time so what you see is what you get.
This can be a great asset for beginners to lighting or even advanced professionals who
are working with very intricate lighting setups.
While the bigger studio strobes do come with constant modeling lights - the modeling lights
only approximate what will happen when the flash fires - they don't give you a truly
accurate representation of the lighting.
LED lights frequently have the built in ability to modify the color temperature from tungsten
to daylight balance.
While this is a very useful feature - it does come at the cost of reduced brightness.
Because some of the led's are dedicated to tungsten white balance and some are dedicated
to daylight.
LED lights are generally much lighter than studio strobes and even some speedlights.
They generate very little heat if any and they make no noise since they don't require
fans.
LED's are generally AC powered but many have the ability to run off on readily available
Sony or Canon batteries.
Because of the continuous light, you can use your camera's light meter to set exposure
and you will not need a trigger to use the lights remotely.
So I mentioned before that strobes tend to be more powerful.
Here is a Savage Universal Edge Lit Pro LED light - this is one of the lights that I will
be talking about in an upcoming video.
I have this set 5 feet from my lovely mannequin Lola.
The Edge Lit Pro is set at full power and I am shooting with a Nikon D810, the Tokina
100mm f/2.8 lens at f/4 with a shutter speed of 1/4th of a second and an ISO of 64.
Here is Lola with a LumoPro LP180R speedlight set at the same 5 foot distance at full power
and my settings are f/8 with a shutter speed of 1/250th of a second and an ISO of 64.
Here is the same set-up with a Paul C Buff DigiBee DB800 studio flash still at 5 feet.
This is a 320watt second flash also at full power and my settings are f/20 with a shutter
speed of 1/250th of a second and an ISO of 64.
Now if you think that this proved the LED light is a bad idea - definitely not - in
fact - just the opposite.
If I move this Edge Lit panel to 3 feet from my subject I have a light source that is broader
then my speedlite or studio strobe and I can shoot at an aperture of f/4 at 1/60th of a
second and an ISO of 320.
Now I could go on for another 20 minutes splitting hairs on the technical details - but you know
that's not my thing.
I will leave that to the techtographers.
Let's jump to the part where we talk about what does it make the most sense for you to
buy.
The simple reality is that you will not find one light that is best suited for every situation
you will encounter as a photographer.
As I have shown you - there are pros and cons to both lighting systems.
I actually consider myself lucky that I learned portrait lighting with those cheap silver
reflectors and 150 watt bulbs mounted on top of light stands.
It made it easier to learn how to see light - because the light was alway on.
And it forced me to learn how to really see and manipulate light because the light quality
from those cheap silver reflectors is horrible.
If you are new to lighting and plan to shoot people like I do or even products, I would
whole heartedly encourage you to start with LED lights.
The constant light sources will allow you to really see what you are doing and will
definitely help you develop your lighting skills much faster.
And for you portrait photographers - here is a huge bonus that you get with constant
LED's… studio photographers have a bad habit of working in slightly darker studios
so that they can see the effects of their modeling lights.
The problem with that is that the modeling lights really aren't very bright so your
subjects pupils expand to gather more light.
The result is that you see less of the iris and less color in the eye.
Using LED lights for your portrait lighting will generally cause the pupils to contract
which allows you to see more of the iris and more color.
Some of you are going to ask about the new LED flash combos and if they are worth the
money.
In my opinion - at the time of this video - they are gimmicks and definitely not worth
your hard earned money.
If you are a geartographer and the GAS is killing you - go for it - they're interesting,
but for practical purposes, they are too small and way too expensive.
You can actually save yourself money by owning separate flash and LED systems compared to
purchasing the few combination lights that are currently hitting the market.
Please remember the newest gear and the most expensive gear don't make you photography
better.
Only you can do that.
Purchase your gear based on your real needs.
Next up in the LED lighting series I am going to take a look at a cool new modular LED system
called Spekular.
Until then, I hope you found this useful.
Please hit that thumbs up and subscribe so that you don't miss any videos and until
next time go pick up that camera and shoot something because your BEST shot - it's
your NEXT shot, so keep learning, keep thinking, keep shooting.
Adios!

Content concepts in Facebook Live Digital Discovery - Ask Your Marketing & Strategy Q&A 2017 09 15 - Duration: 9:08.- Alright, hello again, this is Doyle Buehler
and today I'm doing my Facebook Live session.
This one on Fridays is like like a Q&A,
question and answer, ask me any of your
marketing questions, your digital strategy questions.
You name it and I'll try to address it here
or in the post afterwards.
But, yeah, if you do have some questions
or some feedback or some challenges even
or things that are kind of slowing you down,
happy to take a look at those today.
I do have a topic that I'm gonna be going through as well
just so that we can keep things rolling
and what I wanted to talk about today is content.
And I'm gonna get into that in just a moment.
But first just a quick introduction.
Like I said, I'm gonna be talking about content today,
content today, rather.
Welcome to the Digital Leadership Facebook Live series.
My name is Doyle Buehler and my goal
is to help you better understand and pursue
what matters most in you digital business
and how to make a difference
with your digital strategy through enhancing
and embracing your digital leadership.
I help enterprise and entrepreneurs scale,
grow and disrupt their business and sales
through digital leadership and I'm the author
of a book on digital strategy, "The Digital Delusion".
The overall purpose is to answer one,
is to answer your one important question:
"What real world strategies actually work
"with my business?"
And of course, there's no one-size-fits-all,
but the goal here is to help you decide
which strategies can work best for you.
So as I mentioned, in today's show,
I'm talking about how to amplify
and repurpose your content and how that relates
to somewhat of the entrepreneurial mindset
that we kind of have to do everything ourselves,
just because we want to make a difference
and that sort of thing.
So in terms of amplifying and repurposing our content,
I think a lot of people get hung up on the fact
that they feel that everything needs to be original.
That everything that you produce is yours
and must be exact, it must be proof of your work
and that sort of thing.
Which is obviously important, but it's one small part
of that equation.
So basically it comes down to not everything
that you produce, whether it's social media,
whether it's your blog, whether it's anything else
related to that, has to be...
Brand new content.
And this is obviously where the word of "repurposing"
comes in.
But repurposing can also have some carry-on effects as well.
Meaning that not everybody sees your content
on that specific day at that specific time
and basically that allows you some flexibility
to say, "Hey, this is my content.
"I can produce it, I can repurpose it.
"I can repost it again.
"I can direct people to it again and again and again."
And it's not different to, if you think about it like
TV programs, right?
Like Seinfeld, one of my favorite programs
from back in the 90's.
You can watch those today and guess what?
They're still fantastic, they're still funny,
they still get a good laugh, at least from my perspective.
So think of it like that, like as a producer of content,
you really are a network.
You're a media network.
And that allows you those tools to be able to say,
"Hey, this is my content today
"and yes it is original and yes it is new."
But that also allows you to rebroadcast it
and repurpose it and see how you can develop it over time
because again, it doesn't have to be all your stuff,
all brand new, every single time,
because you'll just be caught up in this whole thing
of content.
And as I said, content is your, some people say
content is king, and it's really not a lot like that
at all in my mind, because you need to be able to see
how you produce content and then how you can
repurpose content.
And in terms of repurposing content,
one of the easiest ways that I've been working with
for quite some time is how to actually
take one element of content and then transform it
into other different types of content
which can work quite well all the time also.
So consider that what your create originally...
How you--
And then again, transform it into something else.
So for example, this live video, right?
This live video is translated into...
Not rather translated, but created transcripts
where we can then write blogs of it,
we can summarize the notes, we can create specific graphics,
we can create a video of this
as a separate entity unto itself,
not just a live video, right?
So live is great, but not everybody watches live,
like I was talking about Seinfeld earlier,
so you have to have that, sort of, those pieces
in your library, to say, "This is my content
"and this is what's available that I produced in the past."
But again, don't look at specifically one specific location
of your content, but look at multiple.
So, again, back to this live video,
you can take out the audio,
you can create a podcast of this,
you can create a specific video, a training video,
you can snip it down to specific segments as well,
or specific key concepts and ideas.
And that's really how that opportunity
can grow and expand from there.
So create a transcript, for example,
from your audio podcast or video
or whatever the case may be
and then you can create some blogs for that
and you can create some quotes from that
and you can create image from the quotes for that.
So if you sit down and actually produce something small,
like say an audio podcast if you haven't gone
onto the video bandwagon yet,
create an audio podcast.
You can replicate that, you can create transcripts,
blogs, images, quotes, notes, articles,
all of this stuff that you can use and use
again and again, again.
And that's what's building up your library
and that's one of the principle foundations
of search engine optimization
is being able to do that and being able
to produce that content across different channels.
But also look at what other channels can you actually use.
So, for example, with this live broadcast,
what I do afterwards is I create a Facebook note
and it's a written note that highlights
some of the key items.
If I have a guest, it's how they can contact the guest.
It's specific articles that I've talked about
if it's more of the strategy side of things.
But you can then use that as a Facebook note
and then what you can do is continue on over
and move it over to a Linkedin article,
a Linkedin post article.
And you can then move that over again
and use that on Medium and create a Medium article.
So you have these multiple channels that you can use
for one specific occasion of one live video.
So sort of the big picture just to kind of put it out there
is in terms of your overall strategy
is look at ways that you can magnify, that you can amplify
what you do at once, to be able to use
in many different occasions and see what opportunities
are there and do some lateral thinking about
"Where is this content going and how can I use it
"and when can I use it and where else can I put it?"
And you'll blow your mind in terms of
what you can actually see and where you can put it
that you might not have thought about earlier.
And following on from that too,
it's like we also get into this mindset
of the entrepreneur that we have to do everything ourselves
and think about ways of how can you build up your team
to be able to help with specific things
in relation to content.
Cause once you produce it, it's really easy,
you can even have people doing the videos for you.
You can have somebody doing the photographs for you.
So think about the ways you can actually move that forward
and being able to get other people into your ecosystem
to help you with this content,
cause it's a little bit complicated,
but it's pretty basic once you get into it
and start producing the content from there.
Cool, so that's all I wanted to talk about today.
If you do have any other questions
or comments or feedback or whatever the case may be,
please feel free to leave them in the comments below.
So thanks for watching.
As I mentioned, there's three core categories
that I go through as part of these Digital Leadership
Facebook Live events.
The State of Digital, which is on Monday,
where I talk about specific ideas and insights
happening right now and how they effect your business
and what you can do about it.
Digital Leadership Guests, where I interview
an expert in the field
and discuss their strategies for success.
And then finally the Digital Discovery
Ask Your Marketing Strategy Question and Answer,
where I review tools, answer questions
or specific roadblocks that people have talked to me about.
So thanks again for watching.
Please like, comment or leave a question below.
And we'll see you online.
Thanks.

Bird Auction Queensland Finch Society September 2017 - Duration: 4:51.Hi guys, Mike from Brisbane Birds
Now, I haven't been to a finch auction in 5 years.
So when this come up in my news feed
I thought I had to go
and I would bring you guys along for the ride.
So this is the Queensland Finch Society's Annual Finch Auction
And so, the main thing about this is that
unlike a bird sale which is a big rush
to get your birds
So you need to get there early
to get in there before anyone else
snaps up your birds
It's an auction.
So 9 til 10, you view the birds
and then 10 til 12 the auctioning starts
And so the only risk you have
is being out bid.
So as long as you don't get into a bidding war,
you can get the birds that you want
and hopefully not pay too much.
Now, the Queensland Finch Society
is a great society. Top Quality.
And is one of the best in the country.
So if you do have a chance to get
along to any of their bird sales, auctions
or even their general meetings
I highly suggest you do.
Well thats it for the Queensland Finch Society's
Finch Auction.
It was a really good auction.
Lots of birds being auctioned off
for relatively good prices.
There was a couple of highlights.
The Crimson (blood) finches
The cock bird went for $270
Another cock bird went for $180
and a hen went for $170
So there was some frenzied bidding around
that group of birds.
But really good stuff.
All in all , I'm little bit disappointed
couldn't find any birds for me.
I did place a few bids
but wasn't successful
So, it was still a good expereince,
great to be back at these auctions
and at these events.
So if you do like these videos and
you want to see some more
please subscribe to this channel
and like the videos
and add comments
because I would love you hear your feedback.
And see what else I can bring you.
Bye.

How to Start a Blog and Make Money (11 Fascinating Ways in 2017) | With Ultimate Guide PDF Download - Duration: 12:38.- [Paul] Hello, Paul here from Teachmor.com,
and today's tutorial I wanna show you how to
build a WordPress website step by step
using the simple Bluehost WordPress One-Click Install.
So there's two things that are required for this.
First you're gonna need a domain name.
This will be the name of your website,
and I prefer Namecheap.com for this.
And the second thing you'll need is a hosting account.
I prefer Bluehost if you're just starting out.
So you have two options when buying your domain name.
Option number one, you can get it from
a domain name registrar like Namecheap or GoDaddy,
or option two, you can pick up your domain for free
for the first year when you sign up
for a new hosting account over at Bluehost.
However, if you go this route,
it's a bit more expensive to renew every year,
and it doesn't include the free privacy protection
that Namecheap does, which is why I prefer Namecheap.
If you want more information why I prefer Namecheap
check out the video I created on my blog
or my YouTube channel.
Right, so if you bought your domain name from Namecheap
or another domain name registrar,
the first thing we're gonna have to do
is switch the domain name servers
from that domain name registrar over to Bluehost,
and I'll walk you through this step by step.
Once that's done, the second thing
and the last thing we have to do
is we simply need to install WordPress
onto our Bluehost hosting account,
which I'll show you as well.
Now the good news is, the entire process can be done
in under 10 minutes, and I'm gonna walk you through
installing a WordPress website using Bluehost step by step.
All right, so let's get started.
The first thing we need to do is we need to log into
our domain name registrar to change the domain name server
over to Bluehost.
And I'm gonna use Namecheap for this,
but the same applies no matter what domain name registrar
you're using, so it could be GoDaddy or any other one.
So let's do that now.
By the way, if you haven't signed up yet,
you can sign up here.
It's a pretty self-explanatory process.
If you need any more instruction,
I actually created a video that you can find
on my YouTube channel showing you how to do this.
But it's pretty self-explanatory.
Once you're done signing up you'll have a username
and you'll have a password.
And you're simply gonna log in.
Okay, so once we're logged in, I'm gonna head over
to the domain name that I want to install WordPress on.
If you remember my last video, I actually picked up
this domain, which is buildyourfirstblog.com,
which will be used for a future challenge
I'm about to create.
But you simply head over to the Manage button,
click it, and this is where we're gonna change
our domain name servers over to Bluehost.
So I'm gonna scroll down a bit just so it's more centered,
and as you can see right here, it says Name Servers,
and there's a dropdown arrow.
So we're gonna hit the dropdown arrow,
we're gonna click Custom DNS,
and this is where we enter the Bluehost name servers.
So Bluehost is ns1.bluehost.com
and ns2.bluehost.com.
Okay, and we're gonna hit the Save button.
Now that that is saved, and switch over to Bluehost.
Let's head over to Bluehost and get you set up.
All right, so we're over at bluehost.com,
and Bluehost is the web hosting company we're gonna use
to actually install WordPress on the domain
we just purchased.
It does require a nominal fee,
but let me tell you why it's worth it.
If you wanted to build a website or a business
on any type of free platform like wordpress.com
versus the version we're gonna be using,
which is the open source software at wordpress.org,
the main difference is, the difference between
renting and owning something.
If you build your business or website
on a free platform, you don't own that.
If they should go out of business, so does your website.
You give up a lot of control when you use a free service,
and really, you're just putting a lot of faith in something
that you don't own.
And I just would not recommend that,
especially if you're trying to make money with your website,
especially if you're taking this serious.
So anyhow, enough of that.
To get started, you simply the big green button,
Get Started Now.
You're gonna select a plan, so if you're starting off
I mean you might just want to start off
with the smallest plan they have.
It will work just fine.
Now this is what I was talking about.
If you have a domain name,
you can put your domain name in here.
If you want to get your domain name through Bluehost
you can add it in here.
Either way takes you to the same step.
So for example, I'm just gonna make up a domain,
and I would enter it,
and then I would enter all my information, right,
I'd create my account.
Name, address, phone number, and email.
In regards to the package,
really there's nothing here I recommend you do extra.
So I would uncheck Site Backup Pro,
I would uncheck the SiteLock Fraud.
I do believe in backups,
but I think there's better solutions,
and I'll talk about that later on in other videos.
And then I would just pick a plan that you like,
and enter your credit card information,
confirm, hit Submit.
That'll take you to a username page
and then you'll hit Save and then
it'll take you into your account.
Since I already have an account,
I'm gonna go back and log into Bluehost.
All right, so I'm gonna log into Bluehost right here.
Okay, so now we're at the Bluehost login page,
I'm gonna enter my username and password and hit Submit.
And it's gonna default to, more than likely
to the hosting page.
I'm gonna X out of this.
But before we install WordPress,
we need to do one thing, which is we need to assign
the domain name we want to put WordPress on to this account.
So how we do that is we head over to Domains,
and we're going to click on the
Assign a Domain to your cPanel Account.
We're going to use the domain that is not already
associated with your account,
which is where I'll enter the domain
I want to build the blog on, which is actually
buildyourfirstblog.com.
Just gonna verify it,
and it says ownership verified.
Now if you hadn't changed the name servers over
at Namecheap or your domain name registrar,
it wouldn't be verified, but as you can see here,
it's showing that we actually entered the correct
Bluehost name servers in the previous step.
Okay, so now that's set up.
Keep everything the same,
and just hit Assign This Domain.
Okay, so once that's done, all we're gonna do
is click over on the Hosting tab,
and it's really all downhill from here.
So this is where things get really simple.
All we're gonna do is we're going to scroll down,
and hit the Install WordPress.
We're going to Install.
All right, so you wanna select the domain
you want to install WordPress on.
So, I've got the correct domain here.
I'm gonna hit Check Domain.
I'm gonna do Show Advanced Options.
This is where you put your title of your site,
so I'm gonna put
Build Your, and you can change this later.
You'll have your admin username,
and you'll have a password.
So copy the password down or create a new one.
And keep the Automatically Create a New Database
for this Installation,
Select I have read the terms and conditions,
and hit Install Now.
It says, "Your install is underway."
This should take a few seconds.
All right, it says, "Your install is complete."
you can view your credentials.
And you'll come down here.
It says, "Your WordPress install has finished."
Hit View.
This is where you'll log in to your WordPress account,
and this is actually your WordPress site,
and you've got your password, so take this stuff down,
and we're gonna click over to the blog right now.
So we're gonna enter the username and password.
We got in.
And I'm gonna hit Visit Site.
Okay, well this is good news.
If you've been following along step by step,
and you've come to a page that looks similar to this,
well then, congratulations, because you just installed
WordPress onto your domain name,
and you officially have your first website.
So, I hope you realize it wasn't too hard or difficult.
There's still some work to do in regards to
getting the website to the liking of your taste,
like you want to change your logo,
or you're possibly gonna want to change the theme
of this site, but those are all really simple things to do.
Nothing is technical in regards to that.
If you can use a word processor,
then you can use WordPress.
But before I leave you, I want to show you two things.
One, how to set up your permalinks correctly
so your site's titles are better optimized
for search engine traffic,
and two, how to create your first blog post.
So the first thing that we want to do is
we want to come to the Dashboard,
and under Settings, we want to go to Permalinks,
and for most people, the post name is probably
gonna be the best bet for you
in regard to search engine optimization.
If you don't change this, then you end up with
a URL like this, and nobody likes that
and neither does Google.
So change your post name to this.
Hit Save Changes.
Okay, now that's done.
I'm going to head over and create our first post.
I'm gonna do Add New.
And, Welcome World.
I finally got (muttering)
All right, I'm gonna add an image.
I'm gonna hit Select,
and I'm gonna hit Insert Into Post,
and I'm gonna hit Publish,
and I'm gonna hit View Post.
And voila!
There is my first blog post.
So as you can see, it's really simple to use WordPress.
