rev up your engines, today I'm going to help you decide if you should buy an extended

warranty when you buy a car or not, now extended warranties came into my mind a

few days ago, when one of my customers was buying a brand new car and they said,

the salesman was pushing and pushing for hours to sell them one of

these extended warranty plans, and since they're buying a new Toyota I said, well

you didn't waste your money and buy one did you, they said no, we just went with a

warranty that the car came with, but they wanted to know why they were pushing the

warranty sales to him, well I did a little research on the internet and

found out why, the answer was simple, it turns out that when they're selling you

one of these extended warranty plans, the Commission to the sales guy is almost

50% of what you're paying for the entire insurance policy, so they're making the

money selling it to you, and conversely, that means that half of the money you're

spending goes for a commission, so the insurance policy is only worth half of

the money you pay for it, that's a great deal for the salesman, but not such a hot deal

for you, as an example, I had a customer with a Volvo that bought one of those

extended warranties on a used car, and he brought it to me and I looked I said,

well the rear main seal the engine is leaking oil, so I called up the company

and they said, oh well that's not covered under the warranty, you have to realize

that an extended warranty is just an insurance plan through an insurance

company, and guess who decides what's covered and what isn't the company

itself, and when I read through the guys policy, I told him, I said, the only

person that could really comprehend this policy would be a lawyer / mechanic,

because there were legal terms, but there are also mechanical terms, so you're not

going to find too many lawyers / mechanics to help you out, and to make

matters even worse, I had another customer who had a Fiat, and they bought

an extended warranty from a third party, when they brought it over here and I

found out that it needed an alternator, I called the 1-800 number, only to find

that the company didn't exist anymore, they'd gone bankrupt, I find if you're

buying a quality car like a Toyota, or Honda, and something that's really going to last,

you're better off looking at the money that it costs for the extended warranty,

just put that in the bank, and use that for repairs, and you'll probably be

thinking Scotty years down the line, when you don't spend any of that money on the

repairs that would have been covered, and you still have the money that you would

have wasted on this policy, but there are times that I do advise my customers to

buy a warranty policy, and that is when they buy the wrong type of car, if they

buy a Mercedes, or a Jaguar, by all means buy a policy, but buy it

from the dealer where it's going to be stood by, because I've had many customers

with Jaguars, Mercedes, Porsches, they ended up getting five or six times the

amount of work done that they paid for the policy on those cars, because they

break down as they age, but then again if you're wise, don't even buy those cars in

the first place, so now you know a bit more about extended warranty policies

why it's probably not a good idea for you to waste money on them, but why the

salesmen love try to sell them to you, more quick fixes on the Scotty Kilmer

The woodpecker Ep Kayak Caddy - Duration: 8:43.

Hi, onThe Woodpecker taday, Imake this kayak caddy so Renée can cary her kayak by herself.

Renée loves kayaking. She always brings her ugly rat with her.

But she's unable to carry her kayak by herself. I always give her a hand.

This means that I have less time in my shop... So I've decided to make her a kayak caddy.

The first thing I do, is bring the kayak inside the shop and take a picture of its shape.

I even lay a ruler on top to have a reference for my plans.

Then with this picture, I made this kayak caddy.

Here you can see that the shape is the same as the picture.

As you can see, this wasn't useless...

On one side, I've grouped all the shapes of the pieces I'll need, to complete this.

First thing I do, is print a full scale pattern of all the pieces I'll need.

I'll use this piece of plywood for the caddy.

Then I cut the pattern on the bottom straight line.

After gluing it to the plywood, I rip it to height.

I don't cut the sheet all the way; I finish the cut by roughly cutting it with a jigsaw.

Then I make a nice straight cut.

Now I can cut the pattern's shape.

When I put this on the kayak, I'm happy.

It's perfect; at least it's a good start.

But to cut this notch, I need to transfer its shape to the other side,

so I drill one hole in each corner.

After turning the piece over, I can trace the notch's shape, and cut it.

I can also cut the other notch.

But for this one, the pattern's shape was on the right side of the band saw.

Next, I can cut both wheel supports.

For that, I use the inside of the kayak's shape.

I don't have enough wood for the two kayak supports; I have to use another piece of plywood.

Then, I can use my pattern and mark where the notches have to be cut on the supports.

I tape both of them together and cut the notches.

Here it's more obvious what I had in mind.

Those two supports will hold the kayak straight on the bottom support.

For the other two pieces, I cut the pattern, tape both pieces together, stick the pattern on top of them and drill one hole in each corner.

The rest of the hole is cut on the scroll saw.

Humm when I try this, it doesn't work; my holes are too small. I fix this right away

I fix this right away.

This is way better.

So now it's time to take care of the wheels.

The first thing I do, is cut two square pieces of plywood.

Next, I stick them together with double sided tape. After finding their centre, I drill a small hole there.

Then I trace the wheels' shape and cut it near the line.

Now I have to make those wheels really round.

At this point, I stick my wheel pattern on top of my turned wheels and make sure the pattern is well centered.

Then I can drill a hole in each corner of my pattern.

The holes are finished with the scroll saw.

Next, I retouch the shape a bit.

Then I take apart the wheels.

One thing for sure, double sided tape sticks like crazy.

Now I can rout a roundover on every pieces of the caddy.

Now I'm ready for the finish; but before, I give it a final sanding.

The finish is quite simple; three coats of spar varnish with a small sanding in between coats.

When the varnish is dry, I drill a bigger hole in the centre of each wheel and screw in place.

To hold the kayak to the caddy, I'm going to use this bungee cord.

Its hook will hold the caddy together. But to do that, I need to mark where I need to drill the hook's holes.

After tracing the line, I drill a hole just beside it.

And now the caddy is finished; I just need assemble it.

I bring the kayak inside so I can try it.

With the bungee, everything holds together nicely. And now I can try it for the first time.

It works great.

Next test is outside.

Ok with snow it doesn't work that great, but kayaking on the ice doesn't go too well either.

But in the summer this goes way better.

Renée is able to bring her kayak by herself which means I can spend more time in my shop.

And with the way I've built it, she can take it apart and carry it inside the kayak.

This way she won't get her nice caddy stolen...

While Renée is having fun, I can continue to work inside the shop on future episodes of The Woodpecker

The WIP Diaries | Episode 2 - Duration: 4:52.

hi everyone my name is Kim Chance I'm a young adult author and welcome to the

WIP diaries so another week has gone by and things with my WIP are going well I

have just have come to this conclusion that I am like legitimately the world's

slowest drafter like holy cow it takes me so long to write words I don't

know what the deal is and I guess like when I was writing Keeper I knew this

about myself but I was also working full time and having babies and raising those

babies and getting my master's degree and doing a million other things so I

guess like I just cut myself more slack when I was writing Keeper but now that I

am writing this new book it's frustrating how hard it is to take

what's in my brain and put it down on the paper like I know every writer has

like a different stage that they love and like different stages that they hate

guys like I hate the drafting process like hate it like I wish that I could

just like somehow like take all the words in my head and like vomit them out

on the page and then I could actually do something with them but yeah I'm like

not a fan of the drafting process I will say though that like kind of looking

back on everything I am moving quickly ish for me like you know I've got

several chapters under my belt I'm really getting a feel for the characters

and the drafts so far is fairly clean like of course there are things that

need to change and you know I'm not quite into the grit

of the mystery part yet so I know there's gonna be a lot of work laying

the foundation for that coming up so I mean it's going well but I'm just the

world's slowest drafter is that an official title because if so it

belongs to me but yeah I'm feeling good about how things are going since last

week my word count hasn't improved too too much I think I've written between

700 and 900 new words they need to be tweaked they need to be prettified cuz

they're a hot mess express right now but yeah I mean new words are new words so I

can't be upset about that I am also planning on talking

to my agent about setting up some deadlines for me this is something that

we did in the past she would say okay send me a chapter by this date and

having that deadline even though it's kind of a low-pressure a deadline it was

really beneficial to me so I'm thinking I'm going to ask her to kind of set that

up for me again because I don't want to rush through this WIP but I really want

to start gaining some steam and making some headway with it so I think I'm

going to ask her to do that I've been sending her the chapters as I've written

them and have gotten her feedback as well as the feedback for my CP so I

really do feel like the draft is it's fairly clean and it's moving in the

right direction so that's really encouraging so that's where I'm at with

my WIP it's it's been interesting let me tell you that this journey but I'm

really excited about it like the closer we get to keeper the more nervous I get

and so it's nice to be able to channel that energy into a new project into

something else and yeah sorry I know I don't know if you can hear like the

rattles but Rhys is over here in his little thing and he's got rattles and

he's shaking the rattle so he's having a blast so yeah things with the W--

well hello Macy it's a goat rodeo in my house like all the time you know they

always say that like to write you have to minimize distractions I don't know

how anyone who's a mom does that my life is a distraction anyway so that's all

I've got for you today for the WIP diaries I told you guys that I was gonna

be doing these each week checking in with all of you and letting you know how

things are going my intent is to keep these videos kind of short because I

don't want to take up too much of your time and yeah but things are going well

hopefully when I report back next week I can report that I finished a chapter and

up to that word count goal that is my plan where you're getting ready to go

out of town for the holidays so it just kind of depends but I'm hoping since

I'll have extra hands we're gonna go visit family extra hands to help wrangle

the children that that will allow me even more time to kind of get words down

on page so I hope that you guys are making progress with your WIP and I believe

that this is our year guys well maybe we should say 2018 is our

year since this year is almost over but I'm just I'm feeling good about things

and excited about progress even if it's small progress and hopefully I'll see

you even more progress in the future thank you guys so much for tuning in get

How I Plan Out Youtube Videos - Duration: 4:46.

One of the biggest questions that I get asked is

how do you create a video strategy for your YouTube channel?

So in today's video I'm gonna share with you

my secret strategy for planning videos

for my YouTube channel.

Hey, guys, welcome back to another episode of Just the Tips.

My name is Trena if you are new here,

and I help creative entrepreneurs

get their business on YouTube.

Like I said, in today's video we're gonna walk through

how to create a video strategy for your business

to get on YouTube.

So my little secret to success here on YouTube is playlists.

It's one of the biggest underutilized elements of YouTube

that people really don't use.

And if they use it, they're not using it right.

So when you think about playlists,

you wanna think about bingeable content.

So, what you wanna think about is,

remember that time you got on Netflix

and you watched, oh, one episode of Friends,

and then five hours later you realized

you just watched all of season seven and eight?

Yeah, that's because Netflix automatically played

that next video.

And playlists can do that for your content as well.

And why that's so important is because

YouTube really values channels

that keep people watching the platform,

that keep people watching more and more minutes

of your videos.

So if you can create bingeable content in a playlist,

YouTube is going to promote that playlist

and potentially rank it in search results.

So how do you do this?

So the first thing that I do

is I write down all of the video ideas

that I have for the next couple weeks,

and I try to see if there is a similar theme

and try to group five to six video ideas together.

So my upload days are Tuesdays and Thursdays,

so for five to six weeks I'm gonna have a video series

specifically on Tuesdays

and another video series specifically on Thursdays.

Now, these videos, you want them

to kind of tie into one another so if they find one video,

they're going to wanna watch the next in the series

and the next in the series.

Not only does this start accumulating watch time minutes

for you, but it also starts to chisel away

at that know, like, and trust factor

for someone who may be watching you for the first time.

By breaking down that know, like, and trust factor,

it's going to be much easier

to sell that person your ebook or your course

or your one-on-one services.

So what I do for the first five videos

in my series is I just get people to watch my content.

Whether a call to action to watch the previous video

or to subscribe to my channel,

I'm just focused on getting people to watch more content.

Then the last video in my series,

I'm going to send people to an opt-in or a course

or my work with me page,

because I built up this trust

if they binge-watched my playlist,

and hopefully they like me

and they're ready to work with me.

Now, why specifically am I saying five to six videos?

So if you post that playlist on your YouTube channel,

it's about five videos that fit across,

and it's six videos if you do it horizontally.

So you just want your playlist to look

like it's full, it's complete,

and it just aesthetically looks better.

So you can see I have my video series mapped out

for the rest of the year on that calendar right there.

the different video series that I have planned.

And so this is the end of a video series

that I started here on my YouTube channel

all about coming up with video ideas

and a video strategy for your business.

warranty when you buy a car or not, now extended warranties came into my mind a

few days ago, when one of my customers was buying a brand new car and they said,

the salesman was pushing and pushing for hours to sell them one of

these extended warranty plans, and since they're buying a new Toyota I said, well

you didn't waste your money and buy one did you, they said no, we just went with a

warranty that the car came with, but they wanted to know why they were pushing the

warranty sales to him, well I did a little research on the internet and

found out why, the answer was simple, it turns out that when they're selling you

one of these extended warranty plans, the Commission to the sales guy is almost

50% of what you're paying for the entire insurance policy, so they're making the

money selling it to you, and conversely, that means that half of the money you're

spending goes for a commission, so the insurance policy is only worth half of

the money you pay for it, that's a great deal for the salesman, but not such a hot deal

for you, as an example, I had a customer with a Volvo that bought one of those

extended warranties on a used car, and he brought it to me and I looked I said,

well the rear main seal the engine is leaking oil, so I called up the company

and they said, oh well that's not covered under the warranty, you have to realize

that an extended warranty is just an insurance plan through an insurance

company, and guess who decides what's covered and what isn't the company

itself, and when I read through the guys policy, I told him, I said, the only

person that could really comprehend this policy would be a lawyer / mechanic,

because there were legal terms, but there are also mechanical terms, so you're not

going to find too many lawyers / mechanics to help you out, and to make

matters even worse, I had another customer who had a Fiat, and they bought

an extended warranty from a third party, when they brought it over here and I

found out that it needed an alternator, I called the 1-800 number, only to find

that the company didn't exist anymore, they'd gone bankrupt, I find if you're

buying a quality car like a Toyota, or Honda, and something that's really going to last,

you're better off looking at the money that it costs for the extended warranty,

just put that in the bank, and use that for repairs, and you'll probably be

thinking Scotty years down the line, when you don't spend any of that money on the

repairs that would have been covered, and you still have the money that you would

have wasted on this policy, but there are times that I do advise my customers to

buy a warranty policy, and that is when they buy the wrong type of car, if they

buy a Mercedes, or a Jaguar, by all means buy a policy, but buy it

from the dealer where it's going to be stood by, because I've had many customers

with Jaguars, Mercedes, Porsches, they ended up getting five or six times the

amount of work done that they paid for the policy on those cars, because they

break down as they age, but then again if you're wise, don't even buy those cars in

the first place, so now you know a bit more about extended warranty policies

why it's probably not a good idea for you to waste money on them, but why the

salesmen love try to sell them to you, more quick fixes on the Scotty Kilmer

channel.
