The more I drive it, the more I'm aware of a very particular thing:
I feel the dripping of an era
How much will this marvelous moment last? Where Lamborghinis are still naturally aspirated?
This is maybe the first time I feel as the only limit of the car.
It should be driven by somebody else to be faster because
I don't think I can find it a limit on the road.
It's all about handling, grip...
The active aerodynamic, the "Ala" system,
invented and patented by an Italian guy in Lamborghini
is as simple as effective.
The air "simply" passes inside the spoilers
and the car, depending on the steering angle and cornering speed,
smartly decides where to send or get rid of the air.
The only thing which is as impressive as the engine thrust
(which is brutal and linear for a NA engine,
but also evil, ignorant and leaves you speechless)
is the braking which is ... mighty, with the four carboceramic brakes.
It's furious.
The steering is electronic, ok, but it's so sensitive...
so precise, obviously, but above all
it doesn't give a thing about the roughness of the road.
It communicates with you, but it doesn't pull rank...
WOW!
It gives you a steady and safe sensation which is maybe counterproductive because
you feel like God... but you are not.
And she had to obey the physics laws too,
even if it may not seem like that...
The front and rear end communicate to each other
on a perfect balance.
Everything is fast, finally a suitable gearbox:
dual clutch, a great dual clutch gearbox on a Lamborghini, it's about time,
the Aventador cried for that lack last time I drove it in Imola.
It's so effective, it nearly worries after a while because there are no limits
I mean, either you make a mistake or she doesn't know any mistakes.
It forces you to focus, a literally embarassing level of concentration for a road car.
It seems like a Super Trofeo which got away from the circuit during...
... a race.
I cannot understand how much further it can go,
but I assure you it's impossible to go beyond this on the road...
and it's new to me, I feel sick,
I physically struggle to drive this car on the road.
When it understeers an inch,
it immediatly becomes oversteer.
You can try to make things difficult for her, but...
It's a weapon of war, nowadays it could be the final weapon of war.
I can't remind a car this efficient, this...
...solid around the corners, when you enter or exit...
Wow, it's... touching.
And also tireless.
I don't think I ever felt a sensation like this, it's too... TOO fast.
She's by far faster than me,
she already did what I only started to think about asking her...
Then you realize you are the one who is asking her, but...
the feeling is... She doesn't care...
The intelligent suspensions change their rigidity and adjustment
according to the driving and the tarmac.
Same for the steering...
things that on paper should disappoint me but
I love them.
They let me do... what I really want.
The brakes save you in all circumstances...
You never.... MAMMA MIA!
You never want them to brake more than they do,
you never want her to grip more than she does,
and you never want her to accelerate faster than she does.
Everything tops the driver's desires.
The 640 bhp naturally aspirated 5.2 engine has no gaps,
it's a... rifle from 1000 to 8000 rpm.
I can't find her a dynamic, nor mechanic, limit:
the only limit it has is the pilot.
I don't believe it, I can upshift where I should downshift,
it forgives you any excess, everywhere around the bend.
It's the best AWD car I've ever driven without a doubt,
I'm out of breath for the first time, I swear.
My internal organs tightened, I can't breathe.
It's too quick.
And when it starts to rev,
it's delirious.
Since I had it for more than a week,
I had the time to scratch all my itches,
I used it even for our 4th Drive Experience Day which was Sunday 17th September,
and for the first time I wanted to try this car as if it were mine,
so that means not to drive it only as if I had just stolen it,
but also as if I had own it, fill it up, pay the "super bollo" (bastards)
and let's drive it with the "STRADA" mode (it won't last long...)
What amazes me is the embarassing change between a setting and the other,
despite the fact the seats are steady, made of carbon fibre,
and after getting used to the Lamborghini visibility
(which is not bad on the Huracan I have to say), what does it change?
The suspensions set-up, the steering output (very smoother),
the gear changes are not on rifle-mode (still fast though),
the engine becomes silent (as much as a NA 5.2 liters V10 can be)
and the car dynamically behaves in a worse way,
which means that it's a good thing to use it in "CORSA" mode all the time
and also that there's a big gap between the modes:
few years back, they tended to use these switches just to look cool, but now
it's something nearly essential, the car on "CORSA" ("RACE") becomes a RACEcar
and you realize it in every driving phase.
When you set the "STRADA" mode, the engine purrs,
it doesn't scream like in "CORSA".
Let's put the CORSA mode back, it immediatly changes tone of voice
and the engine thrust is the one we like...
It throws rocks from the exhaust
which are a drug.
It makes me crazy when there's a bit of rough road and it starts to
bounce like a racecar.
The Huracan Performante is simply everything a modern supercar should be:
it's gorgeous, more beautiful than the normal Huracan which
seems a bit like a "videogame" car,
it's lightning-fast, far too quick,
and the more I drive it, the more I realize a worrisome thing:
everything is exactly and perfectly as I wanted...
and this worries me...
When everything seems perfect, then what happens?
Lamborghini, what will you do after this?
After this animal, what will you do?
I feel like inside a violin,
tuned so nicely that any other adjustment would ruin everything.
I wasn't the only one who fell in love with the Performante,
the whole city too: males, females, the accountant, the police,
the family, the staff, everyone... the city stopped for a week.
I've ever been an aeronautical-supercars lover
but I really adored this one.
I don't think I've ever had an intimate relationship with a new car as I had with this one.
It's easier with vintage cars because they already have a story behind,
a well-known behavior, it wasn't so easy with a car which had 150 km on the odometer ...
I really liked the fact that the stereo cannot be turned on while in CORSA,
or at least I guess (I didn't try: the staff told me that...)
I don't understand if I like the new forged carbon or not,
which seems sheiks' heavy marble, while actually
it's probably one of the major innovations of the past few years.
What I didn't like at all is the persistence on putting
the four-rings badge everywhere possible: we got it,
you don't need to remind us every two inches.
Patriotism aside, it's an astonishing car
above all here on my personal Nurburgring
it suggested me to speed up an idea I've been had for a while
that I can't tell you but I will soon.
