Youtube daily report w Dec 23 2017

[♩Intro♩]

From the way it's marketed, you'd think activated charcoal was some kind of miracle

powder.

It's best known as a treatment for poisoning, like if a kid accidentally swallowed some

cleaning supplies, or for filtering water.

But activated charcoal has made its way into all kinds of stuff, like teeth whitening products,

cosmetics, and that black ice cream from your Instagram feed last summer.

Now, I hate to break it to you, but it's probably not the magical health supplement

that some people claim it is.

Charcoal is a black residue that forms after you burn something with a lot of carbon in

it, like coal or coconut shells.

To make activated charcoal, also known as activated carbon, you treat charcoal with

heat and oxygen, or with certain acids and bases.

These chemical reactions can rearrange the carbon atoms to form lots of tiny pores.

So activated charcoal has a huge surface area.

In fact, just one gram of it can have from 500 to 1500 square meters of surface area.

That's as much as a globe more than four stories tall!

And that lets it trap certain molecules really well, through a process called adsorption.

Now, I'm not talking about absorption, where chemicals get trapped inside something, like

water soaking into a rag.

Adsorption means molecules bind to the surface of another compound, like the carbon-lined

pores in activated charcoal.

The molecules bind because of Van der Waals forces, the weak attractive force between

uncharged molecules.

Basically, depending on where the electrons are, one side of a molecule might be more

electrically charged than the other—even if the molecule doesn't have an overall

charge.

So when a molecule passes through the tiny pores in the activated charcoal, those very

weak charges make it cling to the carbon thanks to Van der Waals forces.

Activated charcoal is good at collecting molecules that contain carbon, like most poisons, because

they're usually large enough and have enough electrons to have stronger Van der Waals interactions.

But it can adsorb other molecules, too, like iodine.

And because activated charcoal has such a large surface area, there are plenty of places

for poison molecules to bond.

Then, the charcoal passes harmlessly through your digestive tract instead of getting sucked

into your body, so the poison can't spread and mess things up.

Which is always a plus.

Plenty of studies have been done about it binding poisons in humans or toxins in a water

treatment plant, so there's no doubt that it works for those things.

But people have also claimed it can help with hangovers, whiten your teeth, reduce gas in

your intestines, and purify mysterious toxins that supposedly build up in your body during

normal life.

And the evidence there is...less clear.

Some people claim to get whiter teeth from activated charcoal toothpaste, but no one's

done research on it yet.

There are also contradictory results about whether it can help with gas by binding to

molecules that contain sulfur.

And there's no evidence that it'll adsorb alcohol or help with hangovers.

So activated charcoal is definitely safe to eat, and might be great for some things...but

any miraculous health benefits from eating a black burger bun are probably too good to

be true.

The Adrenaline Rush of Bobsleigh with Gamers As2Pik and Nemsworld | Gamers Vs. - Duration: 8:04.

Hello, everybody, hope you're well. Me? I'm great.

I'm about to make a very special video

and I'm about to leave in the next few minutes

for the mountain.

I hope you are well, ladies and gentlemen.

I'm going to do the bobsleigh!

Hello everyone, I'm As2Pik - gamer, YouTuber.

I play Minecraft and I'm here with my friend, Nems.

Ho-de-ho, ladies and gentlemen, I hope you are well.

Today, we're here in the fabulous mountains

of the Alps.

Pure air, pollution free.

Why?

I don't know.

To do the bobsleigh!

Let's go!

Don't stop, don't stop.

(HOW TO: BOBSLEIGH.)

(2 x TIMED RUNS.)

(START WITH THE PUSH.)

(PILOT STEERS.)

(BRAKEMAN STOPS.)

(BEST COMBINED TIME WINS.)

(LEVEL 1 - MEET THE OLYMPIAN.)

Above all, we are here with

the great, the one, the only...

(BRUNO MINGEON - BRONZE MEDALLIST NAGANO OLYMPICS 1998.)

..Bruno Mingeon!

Also the French team pilot,

world champion

and Olympic medallist.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. We are here in 1992,

on the Nagano piste.

To the left.

To the right.

- To the left! - No!

Right, let's go to the track.

Bobsleigh seems super interesting

because you really do have the same

sense of team spirit that you get in gaming

and it's really interesting

because you've also got a leader, right?

It's true that the pilot is a bit like the head of the team

but you're still in a team.

We still try to have a harmonious team dynamic

because the mind is important too -

it's not just about the physical side of things

but the psychological side too.

When it comes to training, strategy,

is there some kind of strategy,

are there different ways to push?

In the summer, in Italy, we train on push tracks,

either on the ice,

because we have refrigerated training centres, or on wheels.

So everything we are doing

is about synchronisation, pushing, boarding.

In Germany, they go down... They call it the "frying pan".

Basically, they go down in these big pans

that you use for paella.

Three, four pans going down, they're crazy!

They're really nuts!

We are on the Olympic bobsleigh track.

Go on, film it, film over there!

The Olympic torch...

It's not lit, don't worry!

Thank you. It's been a real honour

to meet an Olympic champion in the flesh.

Goodbye!

(LEVEL 2 - MEET THE COACH.)

We're here with Laurent. Hello, Laurent!

(LAURENT BOCH - PILOT, CLUB PRESIDENT, CBLS LA PLAGNE.)

Laurent is our pilot. Our lives are in his hands.

What pressure!

So, what's happening?

So we're going to go inside and get kitted up.

We'll put helmets and neck braces on

to protect our necks a bit.

I think it'll be difficult for you to be completely in control

as you don't know the track

and you're going to be going super fast.

Let's go!

Wow!

Sexy!

It's a small, alternative collection. Autumn, winter.

Two guys confronting adversity.

They are... The Extreme YouTubers.

Little stretch.

So, the bob - it's going to get faster and faster

as it goes down

so we have to build up as much speed as possible

so that we can get to the end.

(LEVEL 3 - TIME CHALLENGE.)

(RESULTS: TIME - 01:25:18.) TOP SPEED - 115KPH.)

(PERSONAL BEST.)

OK. First time down! Wow! Faster than I thought.

That's fast. You can really feel the blast in your face.

Ultimately, a bad pilot

would've slammed into the walls, right?

If you don't steer a machine like that properly,

you'll turn over at the second corner.

So, you'll get to the bottom but with your head underneath.

That's pretty bad!

OK, anyway, it was great, let's go again.

Let's have another go!

One, two, three. Guys, go!

Go, go, go!

Vive YouTube!

Right! Left! Straight ahead!

Go, go, go, go!

Left! Right! Left, left, left, left! Right! Turn right!

(RESULTS: TIME - 01:19:06. TOP SPEED - 128KPH.)

(NEW RECORD.)

Nice!

By the finish, I'd lost two centimetres.

That was really cool.

Superb!

Nice!

I'm hot!

Again, again!!

It was an amazing experience. An amazing experience.

And amazing to meet an Olympic champion -

obviously it's not every day you get to do that.

Bobsleigh really is an awesome experience,

we had to be really alert,

lots of adrenaline, many sensations,

a crazy experience you should try at least once.

Catch you later, guys!

Unless we control our intake daily, we're probably not drinking

Sufficient water.

In the long run, this can cause serious problems of health.

The National Academy of Medicine recently changed its recommendation, the amount

daily water than an adult should consume.

They now advise men to drink 3.7 liters and women drink 2.7 liters.

Did you know that your health problems can be due to the fact you will not be consuming

Water?

Do not consume the appropriate daily amount Water can cause acute dehydration.

So go fill your cup with water and see now the signs of dehydration:

Do you feel dehydrated When your skin, eyes and mouth are dry,

you are not consuming enough water.

So, do not take water only when your Mouth dryness.

Interestingly, one of the most obvious signs of you are not consuming enough water

can be acne.

This skin problem can be the result of lack of sweat that you are producing.

If you do not have water in your body, you not yours, and when you do not sweat, your pores

They get clogged.

Toxins can damage the skin and cause problems such as psoriasis and eczema.

Adequate intake of water can solve many of these problems.

discolored urine Be sure to check the color of your urine

regularly.

If the color is yellow or brown next dark, it means that you do not ingested

enough water that day.

Urination is how the body releases toxins harmful to our body.

When we do not receive enough water, these toxins gather and affect negatively

their kidneys.

Tiredness A sign of dehydration is always accompanied

sluggishness and fatigue.

Less water in your body means you It has less oxygen in your cells.

The body lives oxygen, and when there is a deficit, will seek to get him wherever

is, including the bloodstream.

When this happens, we become weak and tired.

Hypertension When the body begins to suck oxygen,

our blood cells make our blood thickens, which makes it difficult

our heart to pump blood through our body, causing hypertension, also

known as high pressure.

This high blood pressure can lead to serious complications if not properly

treated.

aching joints The water serves to lubricate our joints.

When we do not drink enough, can cause causing unnecessary pain and injury during

strenuous exercise.

Cartilage is composed almost entirely water, so when we are dehydrated,

our ligaments can lose elasticity and they are more prone to breakage.

Migraine As already mentioned, the lack of water means

less blood oxygenated and thicker.

When this happens, the body does not sufficient nutrients to the brain.

The signals are sent to warn us about this problem, thus causing the terrible,

migraines.

Digestive problems Just as water lubricates our joints,

also causes our digestive system works perfectly.

Water allows us to flush out the toxins in timely fashion, but when we are dehydrated,

this doesn `t happen.

The large intestine pulls the feed water who is trying to digest.

This lack of water in our system can cause moderate or severe constipation.

hunger pain Most of the time when we are dehydrated,

We interpret this as hunger.

Instead of choosing a candy bar or Sandwich, the next time, have a glass

of water.

You'll notice that the headache or pain of hunger you feel probably will.

If the pain continues, you may need eat something.

Russian Overkill ported to Zan 2.0 [Doom mod] - Duration: 15:35.

This Jenesis Map 12, a very good James "Jimmy" Paddock megawad that features an excellent BGM.

On this level, I tried to show most of this Russian Overkill port's arsenal and its fire power.

Some lags here are my PC's fault, others happened because it wasn't possible to optimize some weapons.

I won't collect the Extremesphere anymore, otherwise, the neighbor will call the police on me again.

This song is from the "Extreme Toothbrusing" video, by Brandon Hardesty. The original music is, by

turn, from the Canadian 3 inches of Blood and is titled "Deadly Sinners". Note that vocalist It's NOT Udo.

The port seems to work in GZDoom. I tested it on this engine's 1.8.2 version and looked ok. In fact, it was

created to play RO multiplayer in Zandronum, but is also useful for combining it with mods that won't

work with GZDoom, as is the case of The Chamber of Damnation (a slaughter I already presented here),

or for those who want to play Russian Overkill, but have trouble running the newer GZDooms.

With these weapons of "mass destruction," you have to be careful not to kill yourself as well.

A deathmatch with Russian Overkill should be a huge mess. I'll add some bots here and check it out.

HexaDoxen ported the Russian Overkill to Zandronum with PillowBlaster's approval. This

guaranteed the possibility of multiplayer matches with a proper netcode and all that.

By the way, the background music of this level is also from Jenesis. It was taken from the megawad's Map 11.

The author warns you to set compat_clientssendfullbuttoninfo as true to activate combos and

some alternative fire modes, as well as having a good connection, if you intend to host the mod.

He also said that he gave his best in order to optimize the weapons, but some of them just simply refuse

to it. Most of them are okay, but some are still laggy, like the Katuysha, Libra, Yamato and a few others.

Well, as you can see, this Russian Overkill port works fairly good with Zandronum, although some of

the stuff is missing. The download and more information about the mod are in the description, as usual.

How Does Activated Charcoal Work? - Duration: 2:58.

Charcoal is a black residue that forms after you burn something with a lot of carbon in

There are also contradictory results about whether it can help with gas by binding to

And there's no evidence that it'll adsorb alcohol or help with hangovers.

So activated charcoal is definitely safe to eat, and might be great for some things...but

any miraculous health benefits from eating a black burger bun are probably too good to

be true.

The Real Reason You Don't Hear From Hilary Duff Anymore - Duration: 5:05.

We fell in love with Hilary Duff as an awkward preteen on Lizzie McGuire, but when the hit

Sure, there was the occasional tween movie and a guest spot on Law and Order: SVU, but

that's nothing compared to her Disney days.

So what has Duff been doing?

We've got the dish.

Mommy time

In March 2012, Duff and then-husband Mike Comrie welcomed a son, Luca.

A 24-year-old Duff tweeted the great news:

"Wow I can't believe I have a baby!"

But the glow of new motherhood faded a bit when Duff realized the effect that being a

young mom can have a Hollywood career.

"I feel like I was judged for having a baby too soon, and getting married too soon, and

now I'm pigeonholed for being, like, a 'mom.'"

Duff explained to Entertainment Tonight that while being a mother is wonderful, it's also,

quote, "very isolating."

"You put so much pressure on yourself, and it's really kind of a lonely place to be,

so I think women and families need to boost each other up instead of, you know, bully

one another."

In order to manage her stardom and motherhood, Duff now says she has no problem taking breaks

from Tinseltown.

Speaking with Redbook in 2017, she said,

"I'm not working right now, and at first I stressed about that, like, 'Oh, I shouldn't

stay still this long.'

And that's ridiculous.

I have a child; it's totally fine to not be slammed all the time.

It feels really good to not be on someone else's schedule — besides Luca's.

I'm basically his chauffeur!"

In the studio

In the early 2000s, Duff's singing career took off.

Her albums Metamorphosis and Most Wanted both climbed to the top of the Billboard 200 chart.

In 2007, her Dignity album reached Number 3 on the chart, but it would be almost a decade

before her next album of new material was released.

Sales of 2015's Breathe In.

Breathe Out. were lackluster compared to her previous efforts.

Duff told Buzzfeed in 2017,

"I don't have any plans for new music or a tour this year.

But there's always next year!"

Mickey moment

Duff found herself on the awkward side of a viral moment when video footage of her unenthusiastically

air-drawing Mickey Mouse ears for a Disney Channel promo hit the web — which possibly

rubbed one or two producers the wrong way.

After the video made the rounds online, Duff opened up about the now-infamous moment to

Buzzfeed:

"They made us do it like 900 times.

And I think I like lost all personality at that point.

Plus, I was, like, a pubescent teen — I was like, 'What are they making me do, this

is invisible!'"

"It's like, Hilary with a lot of attitude."

She was a good sport about it and even re-created the moment for the interview.

"Did I nail it or should I do it again?

One more time?"

Writing novels

In 2011, Duff published a young adult novel called Elixir, which became a New York Times

Bestseller that Duff turned into a trilogy with installments Devoted and True.

She hopes the books will become movies one day, telling MTV News that she wrote the first

book with a cinematic adaptation in mind, adding,

"There have been a few people interested in buying the rights which is very flattering,

but if the right person came along, I'd definitely hope that would happen."

Whoops

In 2016, Duff dressed up as a pilgrim and her then-boyfriend, personal trainer Jason

Walsh, dressed up as a Native American.

Together, they attracted the outrage of the internet.

Duff issued a heartfelt apology, tweeting, in part,

"I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume."

For Halloween in 2017, Duff decided to go way more low-key, avoiding any big Hollywood

costume parties and opting for just a pair of bunny ears and some drawn-on whiskers.

Helping others

It's clear that one area Duff traded the spotlight willingly for was her philanthropy.

According to Seventeen, Duff has been working with Blessings in a Backpack, an organization

that provides food to American children since 2005.

She started feeding people once she began touring, when the organization USA Harvest

came to her and said,

"You're selling out concerts, like twenty thousand people a night.

If you just ask people to bring one can of food, you know how many people that would

feed?"

Duff also serves as a charter member of Kids with a Cause, an organization that aims to

find solutions for children who suffer from "poverty, lack of education, or health-related

issues."

Public feud

According to Popsugar, the feud between Duff and Lindsay Lohan all started with Duff's

on-again-off-again relationship with pop star Aaron Carter, who initially ditched Duff for

Lohan.

This led to a curiously passive-aggressive girlfight during which Duff and Lohan crashed

each other's movie premieres and shaded each other in interviews.

In 2017, Duff said that she and Lohan have put the feud to rest, telling People,

"We are both adults and whatever happened, happened when we were young.

It's over."

Though Duff avoided the questionable choices Lohan made later in life, it's possible that

back in the early 2000s, Duff lost some business opportunities over her real-life mean girl

image.

TV Land

If you haven't seen anything from Duff, you probably haven't been watching the TV Land

channel, where she's worked on the millennial-focused dramedy, Younger.

Despite earning critical praise from major outlets such as The Washington Post, who described

Duff's series as "part Sex and the City and part Gilmore Girls," Younger flew under the

radar, especially at first.

Now that seasons 1 through 3 are streaming on Hulu, there will soon be an all new, potentially

more youthful and more Duff-acquainted audience for Younger to reach.

EP070: Comic Book Origins – Legion of Monsters - Duration: 5:44.

[Main theme]

Hello everyone!

A few weeks ago, we posted a video about DC Comics' Justice League.

Its members represented everything good and right and true about superheroes, and they

were all upstanding citizens (even if a few of them weren't originally citizens of Earth).

Today we are profiling a totally different kind of team: one that is dark and creepy,

and made up of the same monsters that keep us hiding under our covers at night when we're

kids.

Still though, those monsters prove to be just as heroic as the more stereotypical superheroes,

and end up saving us just the same.

Marvel Comics' Legion of Monsters has actually had two incarnations in the comic book universe,

the first of which started in 1976.

Created by Bill Mantlo, Frank Robbins, and Steve Gan, the Legion of Monsters was made

up of four Halloweenish Marvel characters that were already in existence: Ghost Rider,

a.k.a. Johnny Blaze, a stunt rider who made a deal with a demon named Mephisto and became

a skeleton with a flaming head; Man-Thing, a.k.a. Dr. Ted Sallis, a swamp creature a

lot like DC's Swamp Thing; Morbius, the Living Vampire, a scientist turned into a

vampire by an experiment gone wrong; and Werewolf by Night, a.k.a. Jack Russell, who inherited

his werewolf status from a long line of lycanthrope relatives.

These monstrous heroes were all brought together by chance in Marvel Premiere, issue number

28, when an earthquake began in Los Angeles, due to the fact that a gigantic mountain had

just appeared out of nowhere.

Ghost Rider just happened to be passing through town at this time, while Morbius the Living

Vampire and Werewolf by Night were battling each other over the fact that Morbius was

trying to drink the Werewolf's blood.

Man-Thing was there too, dealing with a fisherman, and the four monsters headed to the mountain

to see what was going on.

Temporarily united as a team, the four discover that the mountain is not the only thing that

has appeared.

A being that lived on that mountain, called the Starseed, appears as well, and Morbius,

the Werewolf, and Man-Thing all move to attack him.

It turns out, though, that the Starseed is just a man who used to live in the mountains,

and was transformed by aliens into a strange and bizarre creature.

He is not trying to hurt anyone, he is only trying to get back home.

Ghost Rider tries to stop the other creatures from attacking Starseed, but when Man-Thing

touches him, Starseed catches on fire.

This attack is, unfortunately, a fatal one, and as Starseed lays dying, he temporarily

converts all four monsters back into their non-monstrous, human forms.

He doesn't have enough time to make this change permanent, though, and as he dies,

so does this, their last glimpse of their pure humanity.

This revelation causes all four monsters to realize that they have more in common than

they thought, and for a moment, they become friends.

Then, though, they go their separate ways, teaming up only occasionally in other comic

books down the line.

In 2010, the team comes back together, minus Ghost Rider and plus Manphibian and N'Kantu,

the Living Mummy, both of whom we have profiled in previous videos.

This time, though, the team is united by a more solid purpose: to protect other monsters

and creatures who are used or targeted for experimentation.

They help these monsters escape to Monster Metropolis, a safe haven under the streets

of Manhattan where monsters can live in peace.

During their work as defenders of monsters, the Legion of Monsters comes across the decapitated

and dismembered body parts of the Punisher (who we have also profiled in another video).

They collect the parts and put him back together, and he is reborn as Frankencastle, a play

on his secret identity of Frank Castle.

He now resembles a Frankenstein-esque monster, and joins the team as they continue on their

quest.

Eventually, the team enters into an epic battle against a team of monster hunters that ranges

from Earth to limbo to back again, and the Punisher (or Frankencastle, at this point)

comes into the possession of an artifact called the Bloodstone.

He is trying to use this artifact to heal himself, but in the end it makes him extremely

dangerous, and the Legion of Monsters must stop him.

With the help of Elsa Bloodstone, a monster hunter who drew powers from the Bloodstone,

which she usually wear in a choker necklace.

During the battle that ensues, The Punisher tries to kill Elsa, who is innocent in all

of this, and the other monsters stop him.

This wakes him up to what he has been doing, and he gives the Bloodstone back to the Legion

of Monsters, and leaves the team.

The Legion of Monsters has a few other adventures here and there, and team up with Elsa Bloodstone

again for a four-issue adventure in 2011 and 2012, in which they try to find out what is

causing other monsters to become mindless, cold-blooded killing machines.

When the world needs them again, though, they will surely be back to protect both monsters

and humans alike from the evils of the world.

Homemade Christmas gifts - Duration: 9:01.

Hi everyone!

In this video I'm going to show you how to make this homemade Christmas gift.

It's a set of wooden Christmas ornaments.

You need a wood burning tool, wood slices, examples of what you want to burn, a pencil

or pen, tape, graphite transfer paper, scissors and

ribbon.

Cut a small piece of tranfer paper and place it with the darkest side down onto the wood

slice.

Position the image you want to transfer on top of it and hold it in place with tape or

your fingers.

Trace your image onto the wood slice, by going over the lines with a pencil or pen.

Of course you can just sketch directly onto your wood slices if you want to.

When you can clearly see your design on the wood, go ahead and do the same thing for your

other designs.

You can reuse your transfer paper a few times.

When it doesn't transfer well anymore, you'll need to get a new piece.

Mine already came with holes, but if your wood slices don't have holes in them,

it might be best to drill those first as it makes it easier to see where your image needs to go.

I used coloring page images, as they're simple and that's just what I wanted for these ornaments!

You can find wood slices in craft stores or in the home decor section of certain stores.

Especially this time of year they're easy to find.

Now it's time to start burning the designs into the wood!

Use the fine, standard tip that comes with any wood burner.

Don't worry, this craft is suitable for complete beginners, no experience with wood burning

is needed!

Keep one wood slice aside to practice on and to check on the temperature of your wood burning

tool.

When your wood burning tool is warm enough for you to not have to press hard to get an

obvious brown or dark line, trace your image.

Go slowly, but don't rest the tip in the same spot for too long!

It looks nice if you color some areas in.

You can use a shading tip for this purpose, but I'm keeping it simple and I'm just using

the same tip for everything.

For shading, just do what you would do when using a pencil.

There are several ways to get things to look darker.

You can go over the same area a few times, you can just work more slowly and let the

tip rest on the surface for a little bit longer,

so it burns longer ,or you could just press harder.

But if you press harder, there will be more of a depth difference.

Do the same thing for every wood slice.

You can go very detailed or not detailed at all.

For mine, I chose to not go too detailed as I would like you to be

able to see what's on the wood slices from a distance.

[music]

Aren't they so cute and pretty?

They make a great last minute gift and the person who receives them will

know you put effort and love into them!

Finish your ornaments by adding a piece of red ribbon.

For a fun way to wrap these I'm using a transparant Christmas ornament that comes in two parts.

A small piece of raphia and a gift tag will add a finishing touch.

I hope you like this video.

If you do, please give the video a thumbs up and subscribe and click the notification

Thank you so much for watching and Happy Holidays!

Trump Admin Threatens Repercussions for Nations That Oppose Jerusalem Decision - Duration: 1:20.

Trump Admin Threatens Repercussions for Nations That Oppose Jerusalem Decision.

After the US vetoed a UN Security Council resolution condemning President Donald Trump's

recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, the nations of the world vowed to take the

matter to the broader General Assembly, where there are no vetoes.

The Trump Admin warned that these nations would do better to keep their mouths shut.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley (pictured praying at the Western Wall) said that when

the General Assembly votes on the resolution on Thursday, Washington "will be taking names"

of those countries that vote in favor.

Haley expounded on her threat in a letter sent to several fellow UN ambassadors, which

read:

"The president will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back

on those countries who voted against us.

We will take note of each and every vote on this issue."

After exercising America's veto power in the Security Council, Trump's fiery envoy berated

the international community for putting forward such a resolution in the first place, calling

it an "insult" that "won't be forgotten."

The resolution doesn't call out the United States by name, but rather laments recent

changes to an international status quo that has long denied Jewish historical and religious

claims to Jerusalem.

The upcoming vote in the General Assembly does not carry the same legal weight as that

in the Security Council, but it also can't be vetoed.

Israeli Papers See Victory in Seeming Defeat at UN General Assembly - Duration: 2:04.

Israeli Papers See Victory in Seeming Defeat at UN General Assembly.

As anyone could have predicted, the UN General Assembly on Thursday voted overwhelmingly

in favor of a resolution effectively condemning the United States for daring to recognize

the obvious - that Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel.

Nevertheless, Israeli officials and newspapers were able to find more than a silver lining.

As former Israel Ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor explained in an op-ed for the daily

Israel Hayom, it wasn't about actually defeating the General Assembly motion:

"There are those who might see the vote tally yesterday and conclude it was a loss for Israel

and the US, but that would be a mistake.

"The automatic majority against Israel passes 22 resolutions a year by a wide margin and

will continue to do so. The fight in the General Assembly isnt over whether a resolution

will pass or not. Thats a lost battle. The fight is over how much it will be by and

on the quality of the side standing with truth, morality and justice, and yesterday, that

side was significant."

Indeed, Thursday's vote was much less of an "overwhelming" condemnation of a pro-Israel

move that similar votes in the past.

Nine nations, including Israel and the US, obviously opposed the resolution. Most of

the other friendly votes came from Pacific island nations.

What marked a major shift were the 35 nations that chose to abstain, whether because their

views are shifting, or because US President Donald Trump threatened to cut their financial

aid if they didn't.

Either way, it is something of a victory for Israel.

If these nations are changing their tune regarding Jerusalem, that's a clear win for the Jewish

state and its historical claims.

But even if the abstentions were primarily out of fear of Trump, that's still a very

positive outcome for Israel.

All the belly-aching over Trump and his brashness aside, the simple reality is that there can

never be a true final status agreement to this conflict unless the world's sole superpower,

the United States, supports it, if not sponsors it.

And that superpower has now signaled loud and clear that it won't back any agreement

that fails to fully take into account Israel's claims and concerns.

That was the conclusion reached by columnist Noah Kliger in Israel's best-selling daily

newspaper, Yediot Ahronot:

"Victory pronouncements wont help the non-state of Palestine or its leader even Mahmoud

Abbas understands that he absorbed a harsh blow yesterday, and if he ever wants a sovereign

Palestinian state, he will have no choice but to accept Israels conditions."
