Youtube News: Youtube daily report Dec 4 2018

Hey everyone so tonight for dinner I'm doing an updated version of a recipe we

first did on the channel in 2012. It's a recipe that we make fairly often,

and over time it has changed and evolved and we don't always make it the same

every time. Some of the ingredients differ a little bit, so I thought I'd do

a recipe video again and if you wanted to you can compare the two and see how

they've changed. But at its core it's chicken, thyme and white wine. A little bit

of frying, a little bit of braising. So start out with salt and pepper on the

chicken, and just toss those around to make sure that you get them coated on

all sides. In the end probably not terribly important with this recipe,

you're gonna get a lot of flavour in there no matter how you season these.

Next up I've got some shallots and I'm just gonna cut those in half, I'm not

gonna cut them any finer than that I kind of like the big chunks. And I've got

just some cloves of garlic, and I'm just gonna sort of break them. Not really

gonna crush them, just break them open a little bit. Now this is some chicken

stock that I'm just making from scratch.

I've always got a bucket of chicken bones, and anytime I debone thighs or a

chicken, I put the bones in the freezer. I will make a giant stock pot of

chicken stock, that I will either can or freeze. And in the middle, when I run out,

I'll just chip off some bones, put them in a pot with an onion and some salt and

pepper and a little bit of celery, pour enough water over just to make enough

stock for tonight's meal. So that's what's going on in here. Started that

about 15 minutes ago, and by the time I get to the point where I need it it'll

be ready to go. So next up let's heat this pan,

hit that with some olive oil. And in goes the chicken skin-side down. So the

chickens on the go, I'm going to slice up this lemon. Get rid of the tip, and then

just some nice slices. Depending on what you like anywhere from half to a

full lemon; or how big the lemon is obviously affects how much you want to

use. And you also want to go through and take out all the little pips, no

one likes a lemon seed in their dinner. We're not trying to cook it through

at this point, we're just getting a little bit of browning on the skin. So

I'll turn it over.

Now I'll throw in the shallots and some of the smaller rounds of lemon. I

want to get these rounds of lemons right at the bottom of the pan get them good

and carmely.

Got some thyme and I just throw that in here you break it up a little bit

to put it gets down to the bottom but you don't need to worry about stripping

off the leaves. And of course the garlic, again get the garlic down to the bottom

of the pan just so it sweats a little bit.

I think I'm gonna use the whole lemon tonight, so I'll just finish

slicing that up. At this point I think we're ready for the wine. So as much as you

want. I'm gonna let that bubble and reduce and concentrate the flavours.

Next in is some of the chicken stock I just made. So I've got a really good

boil on that now. it's it's cooking really well, on go the rest of the lemon

pieces and they can go on top of the chicken around the chicken just in the

pot anywhere. Now I'm gonna put that in the oven to finish cooking. And that's

it half an hour in the oven. I'm ready here just on time. So let's pull

one out and we'll give it a taste before we go to the dinner table. So just

reviewing the recipe how is this different than then did one we had the

other day? So we had chicken piccata a couple nights ago.

okay I wasn't sure of its name but yes. Similar this shares almost all of the

same flavours, the same sort of flavour ballpark.

yeah good the lemons you get that yeah yeah and you could definitely put capers

in this I didn't put any capers oh yes is that the one ingredient that's

different um the spicing is a little bit different

but I think I think capers but chicken just falls apart skins nice and crispy

that piece is still too big for me

that's really nice I do miss the saltiness of the capers oh if I was

gonna choose one I would choose the other one my personal but it's still

really bad chicken or just put the capers in here well that's a whole new

restaurant it is a whole new recipe and I know a lot of people are gonna start

chicken piccata it's not chicken piccata it's chicken piccata adjacent throw the

capers in and this and there's a sauce in the bottom there that would that

would be absolutely fantastic on like mashed potatoes any type of carb

yeah I saw rice you could put this with with a pasta and it would be fantastic

oh yeah um but I would I would try the best mashed potato recipe ever that

would be my personal choice that's just me just saying I'm just saying okay I'm

felt-tip pens with decorative tips with which you can emboss shapes

different colors very quickly

another super fast method is that

to use perforators after having cut out the images on paper or

cardboard paste on the paper from packages

you can also reuse the shape that it is remained on the card as a stencil in

this case place it in the point that you want to decorate and tampon with the color

acrylic helping you with a sponge

now we come to the creative recycling of the cardboard tubes of toilet rolls

The word gentleman. What does it mean? I use it all the time.

I say Gentlemen, Gents. Start the video off, but what exactly do I mean by that? Guys in today's video?

I'm going to define what it means to be a modern gentleman.

Because I'm sure I missed something and I'd love to hear your thoughts on what is a modern gentleman.

First up gentlemen. We've got Honor.

I'm gonna equate honor with integrity to meet these go right together.

And when I think of honor, when I think of integrity, I think of having a standard that you live to.

You do what you say you're going to do. And the way to imagine this is the opposite.

The opposite of having honor, of having integrity, is to be a hypocrite. A hypocrite says one thing and does another

because it's easy. Because it's convenient they bend their morals.

If you have integrity. if you have honor.

You know what you stand for and you stand for it.

The next characteristic of the modern gentlemen is Courage. And this one's

misunderstood because most people don't know how to actually be courageous. It's something well, I'm not on a battlefield

How can I stand up and be courageous and lead troops in the combat?

That is a type of courage, but that's very rare. For the vast majority of people

It's living day to day and it's seeing something that's wrong and actually having the

conviction, the commitment, the courage to stand up and right that wrong.

You know your boss. Maybe he's yelling at everyone on the team

He has no leadership skills, and he's hurting this company. Maybe you need to go speak to his boss

Maybe you need to speak to him directly. Yes. You could lose your job

But you know what, you know that what he's doing is wrong. It's hurting the company

You've got to have the courage the commitment

To stand up to the right people. The next characteristic of a modern gentleman is to be Mindful.

That means you're going through life and you're actually aware of what's going on

Not only with yourself, but with others. You're paying attention to the way people are - the way

"Oh! This person is having an off day."

I can tell because the way that she's acting or you're paying attention to your own body.

"Why am I so stressed out? Maybe I need to get more sleep. I need to eat better

I need to take better care of my own body."

Now gents, let me ask you a question. Do you remember shaving this morning?

The next mark of a modern gentleman is Respect. Both given and received.

So let's talk about giving respect.

Who do you give it to you give it to?

You give it to everybody because they're all human beings.

And when you understand that, all the sudden you realize when you give that respect a lot of times you're

gonna receive it back. But what happens when you don't receive the respect back?

Well, you move on and you realize, "This is not someone I want to engage with." Have your own

self-respect that you just expect a certain level from people that you engage with.

The next characteristic of a modern gentleman is Chivalry.

Some people say chivalry is dead

That's a bunch of BS. And let me be clear, chivalry is not just doing things for women like opening doors.

It's more than that

It's serving your fellow human being. Whether they be a child an older man

or even an able-bodied man. Anytime you can serve another person, that is chivalry.

The next mark of a modern gentleman is Commitment.

When you say you're going to do something, you need to do it.

Your word is your bond.

People learn to depend on you and that's a big deal because there are so many people out there that you can't depend on

to show up to be there when you need them.

You want to be that rock. You want to be that foundation that people can depend on?

Next up gentlemen is Confident. Not arrogant and not overconfident.

So if you're confident, you know what your abilities are and you know the limitations of those strengths.

You know your weaknesses. You build up confidence over time. It's something that comes with your ability.

It's something that comes as you develop an expertise, but arrogance is actually where you take ---

"Okay, I'm really good at this" and all of a sudden you let it blind you and take you down a path where you're actually

insulting and hurting others.

Overconfidence is where you actually do not know your limitations and you go off and you try to do things that you haven't tested.

Maybe you think you can do but you're not truly able to do.The next characteristic of a modern gentleman ---

He's got impeccable manners and he understands etiquette. Now, the difference between etiquette and manners. What is?

Manners. It's how you make people feel. Etiquette. Those are the rules in society and manners always trump etiquette.

So give you an example, you're at a dinner party. And all of a sudden did someone's breaking a rule of etiquette.

They were eating before everyone has been served. Before prayer has been said.

So do you go point this out to them? Do you make them feel like a fool?

Probably not especially if you're the host you realize this person just simply has different customs.

They have broken a rule of etiquette, but you're not going to break

manners, and you're gonna simply treat them the way you would like to be treated.

So the next mark of a modern gentleman, is that he seeks Fulfillment.

Not necessarily happiness.

Now there's a big difference here.

Happiness is something we feel whenever maybe you accomplish a goal. You do something and you feel good about it.

And that's great. Happiness is a good thing, but it's something that goes up and down and it doesn't last.

Fulfillment is something that you work for and you feel deep down inside you.

So if you can imagine, happiness is liking something.

Fulfillment is loving something.

So whether this applies to your job whether supplies to your personal relationships.

I adopted him immediately

Stamparatus Tip #1 | 2 MINUTE TUESDAY TIP - Duration: 2:15.

Hey everybody its Connie with Simply Simple Stamping .com. Thank you guys for

joining me for my 2 minute Tuesday tip. I'm gonna be sharing a tip with you on

using your stamparatus. Now this is kind of a problem-solving tip today. If

you have been using your stamparatus and maybe the images are not coming out

solid down here at the bottom it could be that you're putting your stamped

images too close to that hinge and many times that hinge is going to

interfere. Guys this is the simplest tip in the world but you're gonna be shocked!

And we always have to put our cardstock in the corner right? Well, instead of

putting it - and putting our stamp here- we're just gonna reverse it and put it

here on the other end. The furthest away from the hinge the better. So let me put

my tree, my winter woods tree, right here. I will ink it up in shaded spruce, bring

it down on my cardstock - I've actually just got a flash card there - give that a

nice little press and look at that; perfect! I don't have to worry about this

bottom part not turning out because if I had printed it, or stamped it I should

say, this way, more than likely the bottom of that image would not have come out

pretty. So it's a simple tip but guys always remember your stamped images your

stamps... try to put them as far away from that hinge as possible and guess what

else this is gonna do for you? When you go to ink this up and you're further

away from the hinge you're not gonna ink the hinge! Please

tell me I'm not the only one who has inked up the hinge. Now luckily a little

rinse under the sink and you're fine but we do want to avoid that! You can find

I lived in Spain for 5 years, in Madrid

but at the beginning it was really hard for me

it was my first time learning a latin language

it was always germanic before

and I never went to Spain

why did I chose Spanish then? because Iwanted to live in the US,

and it is easier to find a job if you speak the three languages : French, English and Spanish

so I chose translation school

in English, French and Spanish and to validate the grade

we had to go in erasmus, I chose England because I was really bad in Spanish

and I didn't even wanted to hear anything about it

but my teachers told me "you're going to Madrid or you won't have your degree"

ok.... So I went to Madrid

So I had my cultural choc

I landed at the airport, en el T4

the subway did not reach that terminal yet but there were already the signs,

it was in 2006

I head to the reception and I ask for the metro in English.and the man replied "what?"

and he replied to me in Spanish, super fast

the subway isn't finish yet, you need to take the bus to the terminal T2 and there you'll be able to catch a subway

I looked at him, totally lost

"uhm....what?"

so he slowed down and told me: "subway, bus, t2"

so I went in erasmu and Iliked it so much that I decided to stay

for 5 years, this is why I speak Spanish better than the other languages

I was lucky to work in an international company

IBM, so I could speak English, French and Spanish

and I even had some Duits managers, I was Team coordinator

so we had meetings in ....Duits

as I could understand it...

So, yes

Here are the languages I can speak well speak for german in that you can see it's not really

speaking that I can do, but I have spent a lot of time learning them and

I can I still have a little bit of word even though it's like 10 12 years that they have lived I have left

your your app or your extension and with that being said you could put this in

your your browser extension for Google Chrome and you can actually download the

app onto your cell phone but you can either do you know click and get paid or

surveys although I'm not gonna rule out the fact you can click

Welcome to the adventures of Our Brazilian Life.

Maísa was a great surprise for me. Initially, it was a challenge because Maísa

arrived at the school and practically only spoke two words of portuguese.

She knew how to ask for water and to go to the bathroom. Today, she tells stories, speaks of her family,

Maísa socializes and does activities. It was a process. She practically

overcame every challenge she received. I have great joy to speak with her. I really like her personality

She is a very sweet, very friendly and a kind girl. It was a joy to have her in my class this year.

What have you done on your last day of school?

So we ate lunch. We did about two tests because they are our last tests.

And we ate lunch. And then I'm watching a movie.

I'm watching Dead Pool. We either get to dance or watch a movie so I am watching a movie.

The arrival of the children to our school was a gain of infinite growth to the school.

The school is learning to lead with this diversity. We are learning to lead with this new market demand.

And for us, it was extremely enriching as well as a challenge.

The children are growing everyday. Each day, they are becoming more Brazilian.

And each day are happier, gaining confidence and are actively interacting with the other students.

All right so today was the very last day of school for you guys. I went to

school and you guys had... Looked like there was a lot of stuff going on. Lots

of fun, lots of activities and so Mateus I want you to tell me, what do you

remember about the first day of school? It was really hard to speak the language

and make friends and kind of listen and do my homework. So I got really tired and

nowadays at the last day. I speak a lot of Portuguese. Now I understand a lot

and then now it's easier to make friends and I already have a best friend.

and I find it more easy to speak and

understand people. (Chris) Very good. I felt excited and now I feel awesome

because now we don't have to go to school. So on my first day of school...

My first day of school I was scared I was embarrassed. And the teacher,

she had a ball and she still has a ball and the ball. Everybody went around

and said what their name is, how old they are, how many people are in their family.

How they growed up and I didn't know what the teacher was saying. So I just

tried to know what she was saying and it was super hard. Until it's the

last day of school. So at the last day of school, I realized it's really easier to speak

English and I already have lots of friends. (Chris) you mean Portuguese? yeah

Portuguse and my teacher is really nice.

Very good I remember the first day of school

and I remember you guys were scared and nervous and didn't know what to expect.

But on this last day of school you guys were excited and I think you guys did a

great job. You guys finished a full year of school in Brazil.

Was it hard? Yes! Did you guys study hard? Yes. You studied a lot? Yes.

What was the most difficult thing during

school. The tests. The tests. Understanding most of the people in my class.

Mateus what was one of your biggest accomplishments

this year? I read a whole book in Portuguese. It was about 84 pages.

The coolest thing was the field trip where we got to go to a swimming pool. I am very

proud of our kids this year. All they've accomplished in school. It's been a

difficult year. They have studied a lot. They had a personal

professor who came in and taught them: Cesar. He helps you guys a lot.

You guys have I think studied more this year than you have in your entire lives.

But at the same time I think you guys have grown more and done more and put more in

your brains than you ever have before. I'm proud of you guys. You guys have

parents always end up having this blurry capture image but what can I do about it

if that's all I have I've got to learn how to get the best out of it I will

show you how I do it when I don't have a thumbnail picture why don't I make a

thumbnail out of Selena's video this is Celine by the way she is adorable isn't she

I think I can start with this one I liked this episode very much

Celine did a kinder chocolate review in flight I think it was a brilliant idea

Juwon loves kinder chocolate who doesn't let's capture this image yeah

right there on Mac you can capture it by pressing command shift 4 and then click

and drag your mouse until you cover the whole area where you want to capture if

you're a PC user the shortcut might be different but I'm sure you can do the

same thing let me capture one more image in another episode how about this one

Juwon loved this episode thanks to you Juwon and I had to go to the Baskin

Robbins that evening unfortunately Baskin Robbins don't have these

popsicles right there look at that she tells

thumbnails without Photoshop

this is canva.com you can not only create YouTube thumbnails but also

create various images for Instagram and the Facebook and it's for free let's see

how it works first of all you need to create a canvas click custom dimensions

and type 1920 by 1080 these are pixel values by the way okay

we made a canvas drag-and-drop the capture image into the canvas it will

automatically fill up the canvas double-click it and change the size of

the picture to enlarge the image click one of the edges and drag it you can

also change the position of the picture that looks good

what's next I'm going to adjust the image a little bit click the adjust

button this is very similar to Instagram I'm positive that you guys are used to this

compared to Photoshop there are not many

options available but it's good enough to make subtle changes this blur tool is

also a sharpen tool if you reduce the value toward minus then it starts to

sharpen the image X process works like that of split toning in Lightroom if you

don't know what they are just play with it and then figure out how it affects

the picture if you change the vignette it darkens the edge of the picture

normally I wouldn't go this far but I'm doing it to show you the difference now

it's time to add some text click this text tab there is a bunch of different

text style you can choose from select the one you'd like to apply and drag and

drop it let's say best popsicle ever celine looks like she's saying it out

loud you can change the size of the font and you can change the position of the

letters too i'm going to try some capital letters

here and there you can also change the way it aligns

it looks much better now I'm going to change the color of the letters click

this icon and select the colour you like this color is a perfect match for the

popsicle should I enlarge the letters a little bit more by default the maximum

value is 144 but you can type the number to go beyond

I'll try 165 you can also change the colors of the text separately I think

I'll go with these sets of colors ok now I want to separate the text from the

background how can I do that unlike Photoshop Canva don't have layers

it's very simple though I'll show you in a moment

let's check out the elements tab I'm trying to find a shape that won't

interfere with the overall look of the image

I need something organic rather than mechanical there we go let's try this

one drag-and-drop it and change the color as

you click the color tab I'll try gray and then reposition this object now it's

covering the whole texts but don't worry we can change the order of the layers

text layer I don't like gray anymore white looks

much better but I don't like the edges of the shape what if I flip the whole

thing as I rotate it I'm trying to demonstrate as many things

as possible so that you can learn from this what else can I do how about adding

a couple of popsicles into the mix search popsicles there are so many

popsicles they look yummy there are images you can use for free but some of

them are not every single image has its own price so check them out before you

select the image here's one more quick tip if you press and hold Shift key

while you select the individual object you can make a temporary group once you

select a group you can change the size or position of the group it's very

convenient and you can also change the color of the portion of an object

I like this interface a lot it is very intuitive that's it let's export the

image when you export it there are four options available PNG is the highest

quality image but the largest of all YouTube thumbnail can be as large as 2

megabytes try to export PNG first and if it's larger than 2 megabytes you can try

jpg normally 1st version is not the best version you can create in that case you

can start working on the second version without destroying the first version

click this icon and see what happens yes it duplicates the image and you can

work on the second version this time I'll try something extreme

I guess Celine wouldn't mind being surrounded by popsicles and yeah we can

even change the one she's holding now Celine is holding a cartoon popsicle

good there's no right or wrong answer to your thumbnails just have fun how would

it look on Celine's Channel let's check it out

this is the original thumbnail this is the first version and the second version

I don't think there's any problem with Celine's original thumbnails I'm just

introducing new skills so that it can improve your thumbnail pictures

now I'm going to try something different with the second picture to quickly recap what

we have done so far I am going to repeat the whole thing from the very beginning

this time I want you to imagine that you're doing it along with me it'll help

you to learn it so much faster create a canvas drag and drop the image change

the size of the image if you want to click adjust tab to make some changes

play with these bars until you find the right balance don't be afraid of trying

something extreme because you can always come back to zero remember what I said

about blur tool it not only blurred image but also sharpens the image if you

don't know what they do move the sliders towards the end good this time I'll try

something different Celine did kinder chocolate review but

canva doesn't have a kinder image so I'll google it and download a picture of

a kinder egg if I was using Photoshop I could have cut the image from the

background but I can't do that in canva therefore I need to find the PNG image

with a transparent background it is saying that it's transparent image

but watch this it's jpg the background is not

transparent the image with transparent background would be dot PNG

let's check out this one double-click it yes this one is dot PNG and has transparent

background let's apply this image to the thumbnail see we can use an image of

kinder egg as if we cut it out in Photoshop now let's make some

adjustments to the image the point is to balance the kinder egg with Celine's face

let's make subtle adjustments until it goes well with the rest of the picture

if the kinder egg pops out alone it would ruin the integrity of the whole

picture let's compare before and after the

adjustments here's before and here's after I think it's alright now let's add some

text how can we do that by clicking the text tab drag and drop it right down the

new text you can not only change the color but

also size of the font that's it when you export it always try PNG first if PNG

file is larger than two megabytes what should you try yes

jpg let's see how it looks in Celine's channel again
