nanoHUB-U Nanophotonic Modeling L2.5: S-Matrices - Duration: 5:49.[Slide 1] Hey everyone.
Now we're gonna continue our discussion about wave optic matrices.
We briefly already went over T-matrices and R-matrices and
now we'll cover S-matrices.
[Slide 2] So, here the concept of the S-matrix is to look at
the connection between incoming waves and outgoing waves
from the boundaries of a certain region which may be a multilayer stack.
And so mathematically we write it in this form, and so
you can see it looks kind of like a hybrid representation.
So we have the up components at the top of the stack, u(p+1).
And, the down component from the bottom of the stack, d 0,
depends on the S-matrix, which is actually written in this hybrid form.
TR, RT, times the incoming elements, u nought, so
incoming from the bottom, and then d(p+1) incoming from the top.
Okay, and so you can obviously see just physically that the transmission from
the bottom to the top must depend on this first element, T uu of p.
And the reflection at the bottom, for example, would be R du of p And so
[Slide 3] S-matrices have a couple of key properties.
If you don't have any loss in the system then they're unitary, which basically
means that the adjoint of S times S itself would be equal to the identity matrix.
And so why is that valuable?
That tells us that there no exponentially growing terms.
In other words, mathematically all the exponentials that are present
in the system, if there are any, would be in the denominator not the numerator.
And so that's a very valuable property and is physically reasonable.
So the reason why it makes sense physically
is that you know that the amount of energy that's coming into the system,
in the absence of gain or something, should not exceed what's being lost.
And so, even if you do add loss.
Then you expect that things will just decay further.
So you'll have less light coming out then you had going in.
And so that physical motivation has allowed us to create a mathematical
representation that gives us greater numerical stability than the T-matrices.
[Slide 4] And so how do we actually construct them in detail?
So what we do is we write down just an A, B, C,
D matrix from the T-matrix formulation, okay?
So that's simple enough, and we can actually then rearrange everything so
that we have something that matches up with the formulation of the S-matrix.
So we basically are just moving around the terms.
Basically writing out term-by-term, all the equations.
And then we re-equating them.
And so that gives us something like this.
So you have the capital D(p) times lowercase d(0) equals D(p) + 1 - CP U0.
I won't read out the second equation, but
you can see you got something analogous where UP + 1 a little more complicated.
And so that actually directly allows you,
just by resolving the same set of equations that we started off with
in the T-matrix to write down an S-matrix equivalent term.
And so we are doing that analytically so
that means there is no numerical loss in accuracy at this point.
We can then equate each of these terms that we got
in this new S-matrix formulism, to the physically motivated
transmission-reflection coefficients in the s-matrix.
[Slide 5] And then of course as we did before, we can actually define an S-layer matrix,
s tilde which is very analogous to our T tilde matrix
we had earlier, which would be essentially the quotient of two interface
matrices, which we can write it as sp without the tilde times two phase terms.
And before we had phi as just a single phase term, but because of the different
propagation directions, we actually have to break up the phase slightly.
But it's very similar to what we had earlier.
So you can see basically, we have a positive exponential on the right and
the negative exponential on the left.
But otherwise very similar.
[Slide 6] And then we can actually relate it to the T-matrix from before.
And so we basically have just rewritten that equation that I had earlier.
Okay, so that was essentially this equation but
just re-written in terms of T-matrix elements.
And then combining these two things like the sp, which we just calculated,
plus the phase factor, allows us to create iteratively
like if we have like p layers of the S-matrix.
And we have p-1 layers, so we want to add the pth layer,
then we basically get to construct it iteratively.
And then we end up with a matrix like this.
And just keep in mind that the first two elements are on the left-hand side.
Last two elements are on the right.
It's just harder to write them all in a 2x2 matrix.
And then the next lecture we'll go into more details about how
to construct and work with these S-matrices.

nanoHUB-U Nanophotonic Modeling L2.2: Connecting Ray Optical Matrices - Duration: 8:32.[Slide 1] Hey everyone, welcome to Lecture 2.2.
So this will actually go into more details about how ray optical matrices work.
[Slide 2] So, the challenge with ray optical matrices is that we know the elementary
forms, but what if we actually had more than one optical element at a time?
And so, of course, most optical systems will have many elements together.
So, how can we actually understand the interaction between all those elements?
Of course, it could potentially be very difficult.
But because everything is essentially linear, we actually have a fairly easy
approach to combining different elements, which is based on linear algebra.
And so you can see here, basically, the concept, which is that you have some
sort of input system which is represented by height yn and an angle, theta n.
Okay, so this is basically the ray that's coming into the system.
And then it goes through different ray matrices.
And so these ray matrices are an abstract representation of the actual
elements propagating through free space or a high index medium.
Or a curved surface.
Or thin lines, and so on.
And so then you actually get to multiply all these together until you get to
the output.
And so then mathematically you actually put everything in the reverse order in
which it occurs, starting from the input.
So you go from the element that's closest to the output.
So O3 in this case.
Times O2, times O1, so those are the three optical elements.
Times the input yn, theta n.
And so this is all using typical linear algebra matrix multiplication.
And it looks like it might be opposite of what you expect.
But this is not a typo.
It's actually supposed to be that.
And it makes sense when you think about it.
Because as you may know from linear algebra,
when you multiply 01 times yn theta n,
that gives you kinda the first step in the chain, and so on.
[Slide 3] So you could actually use it for a fairly complex system.
This is just one example where maybe we have input here
of a ray pass through a high index medium.
And then we pass through a thin lens, and
then we pass through a kind of half-thick lens and then a mirror and then output.
And so we can basically extract all of the elementary optical
matrices that we discussed in Lecture 2.1.
And then multiply those all together.
And then that can give us an output.
If you want more details on this example, please see this website.
[Slide 4] It explains how to do the calculation.
And then there's another special case that's gonna be very important for
a lot of ray optical systems, which is the case of periodicity.
And so, oftentimes you may have a certain set of elements that are repeated.
And they could be repeated in two ways.
They could actually be arrayed in space.
So you have one unit, after another unit, after another.
Or, they could actually be facing towards each other and be reflective.
So that would be like a pair of mirrors or
even a larger set of mirrors that all kind of reflect light back and forth.
Classic example would be a hall of mirrors, at some kind of carnival, right?
So then you just have light going back and forth and back and forth, right?
And so, you can actually also capture that kind
of behavior using the ray optical method.
And here basically it's showing that the conceptual
approach is that we created an ABCD matrix for each subunit.
And then we would multiply the subunit to the mth power,
if we have m subunits, okay?
And so then that gives us the final output after m periods.
[Slide 5] And so then, for an example where you have a pair of lenses,
each of which are very thin, and have different focal lengths.
Then, you can see there are actually four elementary units
within this pair of lenses.
One is basically propagation through free space.
And then you go through the first focal length of the first lens.
Then the second region of free space and then that second lens.
And then that whole thing is repeated over and over again.
So you can actually calculate by multiplying out the two pairs of elements.
And basically the first pair of elements gives you
optical matrix 1, d, minus 1 over f1, 1 minus d over f1.
And then the second one of course with f2 instead of f1, right?
But otherwise identical.
Multiply those together, then you get this.
And then there's this stability condition which is that A plus D
absolute value must be less than or equal to two.
And then so that condition tells us, if we work through the math,
that basically you need the ratio of d over f1.
And d over f2 to be, I guess large enough, so
that this overall term can be less than or equal to 1.
But it also has to be small enough so that it can be greater than or equal to 0.
So that's kind of the trade-off.
If it doesn't fall within that range,
then it will be basically an unstable transmission, so
you can't propagate through a large number of periods that way.
[Slide 6] Similarly for a resonator, which is actually very mathematically similar,
even though it looks a lot different, where you have a pair of
mirrors that are facing each other, with a certain curvature.
You can imagine that light is actually bouncing back and
forth between those mirrors repeatedly over and over again.
And you can create a similar set of stability conditions.
So, in this case, it basically becomes something like this, where you have
1 plus d over r1, where r1 is the radius of curvature for
the first lens times 1 plus d over r2, r2's the curvature of the second lens.
And sometimes it's just written simply as, the first factor is g1, and
second factor is g2.
So g1 and g2 have to have a product between 0 and 1.
[Slide 7] And so then there's actually a stability diagram that you can generate for
this sort of problem, where essentially certain types of
mirrors are going to be fairly stable.
So you can see that if you have g1 and
g2, are both kind of 1 or less.
So that's the case of the planar mirror.
Then we can have a very good fit, and we can keep light going back and
forth, back and forth, right?
And then similarly, you can see c, which is a symmetric concentric mirror.
Then these mirrors are actually facing towards each other.
And they're focusing light on one another.
So, the light won't escape, it can keep bouncing back and forth.
And then you can see also in d, you could have one mirror that's flat and
then one is curved.
So it's kind of in between those two cases.
Some of the other cases, however, are not going to be stable.
And so, you can see this one, I think it's c here,
is kind of on the borderline, the symmetric concentrator.
But there are other ones like b, with this metric and focal lens,
that could be unstable if you have either of the elements as negative, but not both.
So, in short, what we found is that there are a range of
radii of curvature or focal lengths that would give rise to stable resonators,
like with periodic propagation of light in the ray optics approximation.
And then this has a lot of practical implications,
where any sort of system where you're trying to confine light, so
for example, creating a laser or a light emitting diode.
But we haven't really touched on the wave optics aspects.
And so then that's kind of our next step in the next lecture.
-------------------------------------------
nanoHUB-U Nanophotonic Modeling L2.4: T-Matrices - Duration: 6:45.[Slide 1] Hey everyone, welcome to Lecture 2.4.
So in the last lecture we just talked about how
to formulate the optical wave matrices in the wave optics approximation.
And so now we're actually gonna talk in more detail about the transfer matrix or
T-matrix formalism and how it can basically work.
[Slide 2] And so, we said that we wanted to do multiple layers.
So, here the concept is that we want to create a general way to
treat p layers where p is an arbitrary number.
Instead of just a pair of layers or a single layer,
like we were talking about earlier.
And so here are the ideas that will have a recursive approach.
Kind of like a proof by induction where we start with p layers, and
then we construct a p plus one-th layer.
And so, since we already showed we can do it for one, and then if we can do p and
then p plus 1.
Then that should cover all the cases that we care about.
So what we have to do here is essentially, like when we have up and
down propagating matrices.
We have to have like a pair of
these so-called W(p) matrices that allow us to match
the fields with the boundary conditions derived from Maxwell's equations.
Okay.
And so, we can kind of write it as W(p+1) times u(p+1), d(p+1).
So, those are up and down propagating waves in p plus one-th layer,
times this W(p) matrix equal W(p), up, and yp at the same point.
So right at that interface everything should match.
Okay.
So in particular,
you know from Maxwell's equations that the parallel E field should match, and
then the perpendicular D fields, or the parallel H field should match as well.
So that's how you can actually physically construct those matches.
And then we can actually then combine these W(p) and
W(p + 1) into a single so-called layer t-matrix,
which oftentimes would look like this, which would take this matrix.
So W(p) divided by W(p+1), and then kind of propagate to the previous layer.
And so that will make our lives a little easier in the long run, as you'll see.
[Slide 3] This t tilde layer t-matrix has two terms.
The t(p), which I mentioned earlier is like the quotient of those two W(p)s.
And then there's this phi(p), phi(p) basically tracks the change
in the phase associated with the propagation from yp to yp- 1.
And so this is basically captured as like kind of this diagonal term.
In which we have written in a very general form, and so
we just say that there is some sort of phase change which depends on some beta.
Beta being the wave vector in the z direction.
So of course, they have different values.
Typically, beta plus would be equal to beta minus,
but we don't want to assume that right now just to keep it general.
[Slide 4] And so, to take a specific example of how to apply this approach.
Then we're gonna look at a quarter wave stack.
And so quarter wave stock has been known since probably the late 19th century.
It's basically a stock of individual optical layers which
have alternating refractive indices, and
each layer has a thickness that's about one quarter of a wavelength.
And the rationale for creating such a structure is that it
can be highly reflective at the targeted wavelengths at the quarter wavelength.
Okay.
And so, in this case based on our results from the previous lecture.
We know that beta L, basically a phase shift associated with each layer
would not be 2pi, which would be a full wavelength, but one quarter of that.
So pi/2.
And then we can actually then put in the numbers for
this phase, and then that gives you a pair of matrices that look like this.
And then when you composite those matrices then,
it actually becomes something as simple as the quotient of
the refractive index in one direction and then the inverse in the other direction.
Okay.
And so then that actually tells you that the transmission,
if you had M of these bilayers, would be (n1/n2) to the 2Mth power.
And so you got n1 over n2 to the nth power, because they're M layers.
But then you get another factor of two in the exponent because
the transmission is based on the power not the field value.
[Slide 5] So you can see that on the one hand, T-Matrices give you very nice solutions,
but then some of these are gonna be exponentially growing.
And so, analytically this is fine.
But you can imagine that as basically index contrast gets large, and then you
have large number of layers, and this could give you very, very large numbers.
So numerically, this could be a big challenge potentially causing overflow.
Now there are two ways that you can try to address this,
in order to be more numerically stable.
The first being the R-matrix method, and then the second being the S-matrix method.
[Slide 6] Just to briefly go over the R-matrix method.
Here you would basically formulate the problems so
that you would have certain polarization U.
That's connected to certain polarization V on the other side.
And so here, you would actually write that
U polarization would depend on the R-matrix times the V polarization.
And you can see there are two different components to both polarizations.
One is on the top of the stack, and then the other is on the bottom.
So that's basically U(0) versus U(p+1) and then of course V(0) and V(p+1).
And so, oftentimes like the U and V would represent E and H fields.
So for example, like the TM and TE fields respectively,
and then the R-matrix would represent the field impedance.
So in the next lecture, we'll actually talk
more about the other formulation that we can use the S-matrix, and its advantages.
-------------------------------------------
nanoHUB-U Nanophotonic Modeling L2.1: Introduction - Duration: 4:19.[Slide 1] Hey everyone, welcome to Unit 2 of nanophotonic modeling.
This unit concerns the value and utility of transfer matrices for optical modeling.
And so this can be done either in the wave optics or the ray optics regime.
[Slide 2] And so here we actually have an example problem which
illustrates the utility of ray optic transfer matrices.
And so in this case you actually have certain optical elements,
like say a person.
And you have a certain height.
y1 and optical rays are passing through them as an angle which is theta 1 with
respect to the optical axis which goes perpendicular to the optical elements.
And what the ray optics calculation basically captures our two sets of rays.
One which is parallel to the optical axis before entering the optical elements and
then goes at an angle theta 2.
And another one going in the reverse direction,
parallel to the optical access in red and at an angle theta 1.
And those two effectively capture the overall behavior of the system and
particularly the lens that's present in the system.
And you can basically think of it mathematically as a mapping between
the initial coordinates, height y1 and then angle theta 1.
And then the final coordinates which are a new height, y2,
which might be the height of the person in the lens as
well as the angle theta 2 which is the angle within that new lens.
And so, it basically becomes like a pair
of inclined output states that are ordered as yk theta k.
[Slide 3] And so in order to create a linear relationship and allow us to use
the transform matrix method then although technically you can write down that
the output would be equal to the input + d times tangent of the angle theta 1.
We can actually often times assume if the angles are small, so
basically things are propagating close to the optical axis then
tangent of theta 1 is approximately theta 1.
Sine of theta 1 is approximately theta 1.
And then cosine of theta 1 is approximately 1- theta 1 squared over 2,
or oftentimes we just write it as 1, just for simplicity.
[Slide 4] And so now we can actually relate the input and
output states using a linear pair of equations, where y2 equals theta 1.
Sorry, y2 equals y1 plus d theta 1, and then theta 2 equals theta 1.
So, when we write that as a matrix, for propagation in free space,
then it becomes 1 d 0 1 times y1 theta 1,
is equal to the output y2 theta 2 on the left hand side.
And in general, we actually write this matrix
which in this particular case was 1 d 0 1, that's A B C D.
And those A B C D are unknown coefficients that
depend on the optical element of interest.
So in this case we save free space, we basically would put A and
D equals 1 and C equals 0, but
then B would be a variable number based on the distance propagation.
[Slide 5] And so then if we actually create a whole set of these, we can do not just
free space which is here, we can also do crossing through a planar boundary.
And this is driven by basically Snell's Law at small angles, so
that's why we got that n1 over n2.
And then here, we have the spherical boundary between two surfaces, so
then you'd actually have a pair of these and a typical thin lens, and
then each of these gives something like this.
And so compositing those together for a thin lens,
we get something that goes like 1, 0, -1 over f1. 1
where f is the focal length of the lens.
In the next lecture we'll go into how do we actually apply these elementary
radioptical matrices in more detail.

The Good News About Hell Part I - Duration: 28:37.The late great Charles Spurgeon once said,
"A lie can travel half way around the world
while the truth is putting on its shoes."
And as I ponder that thought,
I'm sure its just how incredibly true
it really is.
Have you ever really considered
how quickly a lie or slander statement
or a bit of gossip can spread so rapidly,
but then an attempt to spread truth
never seems to finds its legs.
It's interesting to observe
how quickly the simple two word phrase fake news
has caught on as a way of exposing the power
of using media to propagate lies.
Now, while that phrase is mainly used
in political debates,
is it not true that our society seems hungrier
for sensational lie rather than a simple truth.
The funny thing is
when a scandal turns out to be true,
for some strange reason
it quickly loses its momentum as gossip,
whereas if it continues even as a lie,
it appears to have much more potential to go viral.
One only needs to read the covers
of the gossip magazines on the approach
to your grocery store checkout to know that headlining lies
and twisted truths will sell magazines,
so what are we to do with this understanding.
If truth really matters,
then why the fixation with lies?
Is there any rock solid source of undeniable truth
left in the world and if so, how are we to find it?
What about the Bible?
Can it really be considered ultimate truth?
How would we ever know if we've never read
or listen to what it has to say?
Well, why not start right now by listening in
as speaker Doug Batchelor presents time tested truth
from that age old book called the Bible.
The message for this morning is titled
"the good news about hell, part 1".
Now this is a very relevant thing for us to talk about
because the Bible is pretty clear
there are only two choices that every human faces.
There are two destinies everybody around you
is going to embrace.
You can read in Revelation 20:15,
"And if anyone is not found written in the Book of Life,
they're cast into the lake of fire."
There are two choices, life or death,
eternal life or the lake of fire,
sometimes known as hell.
I always feel a little awkward saying that word in church.
Most people don't use that word in the biblical sense,
but it is a biblical word and just appreciate
that's the way I'm using it.
And kind of the collective idea of hell
is that there is this molten place,
typically down yonder somewhere,
where the lost go as soon as they die
and that they begin burning there,
but they're alive and conscious and they feel the burning
and they don't burn for a second or two,
but they burn in this molten fire
and sulfur and brimstone
agonizing second after second
and minute after minute and hour after hour
and day after day and week and month and year after year
and millennium after millennium.
All that time they're rolling and blistering and shrieking
and crying for mercy and mercy never comes,
and after a billion years go by,
they manage to swim to the surface
of this molten brimstone
and they call "Lord, how long?"
And God says, "You've only just begun."
And He pushes them under again.
This is what is believed.
You're aware of that.
This is what is believed by the typical Baptist
and many evangelicals about hell.
Some try to soften it a little bit
and they simply call it eternal separation from God.
But then you pin them down and say,
"Well, what are these lost souls experiencing?"
"Well, they're being tormented day and night forever and ever
in fire and brimstone."
There are some difficult passages in the Bible
that are frequently misunderstood
and I'm going to take some time,
specifically next week to talk about that.
But in the presentation today,
I want to tell you what some of the good news
is on this subject and try and clear up
some of these misunderstandings
because this typical traditional view of hell
is not what was taught in the Old Testament
or the New Testament
or believed by the early church.
It has been distorted through the Dark Ages
and exploited by the church to drive people by fear.
Many, many people have been driven by fear
regarding this subject
and it distorts the picture of God,
it paints God as a sadist.
And I want you to understand
what the Bible really teaches about the subject.
First of all, is anybody burning in hell right now?
What does the Bible teach about this?
2 Peter, we'll have scriptures on the screen,
but I hope you'll also write them down
so you'll have an outline in your hands.
2 Peter 2:9,
"The Lord knows
how to deliver the godly out of temptations
and to reserve the unjust..."
You've got two groups: the godly and the unjust.
"Unto the day of judgment to be punished."
So when are the unjust punished?
The Day of Judgment.
That day is not the day of their death.
There is a great judgment day coming.
John 12:48, Jesus said, "He who rejects me,
and does not receive My words, has that which judges him,
the word that I have spoken
will judge him in the last day."
Christ is looking off into the future
at that day of the Lord,
that great judgment day, and He says.
"That is the day
when they will be judged by the word
that I have spoken."
They are not judged yet.
They are not receiving their reward yet.
And then, if there's any doubt, it's really clear
when you look at the parable that Jesus told,
Matthew 13:40,
do you know the parable of the wheat and the tares?
Here Jesus talks about a man had a field
and some enemy came during the night
and he sowed these tares.
Tares are like a weed.
He sowed these weeds in among the wheat
and it all grew up and the servants said,
"What shall we do?
Shall we pull up all the weeds?"
And the master said, "No, let it grow together
until the harvest and at the harvest
then we'll gather the tares and burn them in bundles
and we'll gather the wheat and put it in the barn.
And so Jesus, later,
interpreting that parable for the disciples,
so there's no misunderstanding, He said,
and this is Matthew 13:40, "Therefore as the tares
are gathered and burned in the fire,
so will it be at the end of the world,
the end of the age.
The Son of Man will send out His angels,"
when Jesus comes,
"they will gather out of His kingdom
all things that offend,
and those who practice lawlessness,"
the wicked, the lost,
"and cast them into a furnace of fire.
And there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
All right, well one thing we did learn,
there is a furnace of fire, but we also learned
that they're not burning there yet
because the judgment day has not happened.
This harvest has not happened yet.
The resurrection of the wicked has not happened yet.
It is still in the future.
So I hope that you find some good news right there
that nobody is burning in hell right now.
So where are the lost now?
Jesus answers that in John 5:28 and 29,
"Do not marvel at this,
for the hour is coming", future tense,
"in which all that are in their graves
will hear His voice and come forth..."
They haven't come forth yet, there's an hour coming
when they'll come forth.
"Those who have done good, to the resurrection of life..."
That's first, dead in Christ rise first.
Isn't that what the Bible says?
"And those who have done evil,
to the resurrection of condemnation."
Or the resurrection of damnation,
the resurrection of the lost spoken of also in Daniel 12.
Jesus said it's in the future.
You've got a resurrection of the saved,
the dead in Christ rise first.
That's in 1 Thessalonians 4.
And then there's the resurrection of the lost
that happens at the end of the one thousand years.
The Bible tells us in Revelation 20,
"The rest of the dead do not live
until the thousand years are finished."
If the dead in Christ rise first,
all the dead who are saved rise first,
who are the rest of the dead?
The dead without Christ, the lost.
That's the resurrection of damnation
or condemnation the Bible speaks of.
It's in the future, hasn't happened yet.
All right, moving on with the next question.
What is the end result of sin?
Well, let's let the Bible speak for itself.
James 1:15,
"Sin, when it is finished, it brings forth death."
So there are two rewards that are offered:
life or death.
Moses said, before the children of Israel
entered the Promised Land there in Deuteronomy 30,
he said, "I set before you this day life
and good and blessing,
and death and evil and cursing."
The options for everybody
is if your name is in the Book of Life, you live.
If your name is not in the Book of Life,
you will be punished and you die.
The end result of sin is not eternal life in the fire.
It doesn't say that in the Bible.
The Bible doesn't say anywhere
that you've got an immortal soul.
I always stop and I just ask anybody,
I mean, here we've got oh, six or seven hundred people,
show me one verse in the Bible
that says you have an immortal soul.
God is immortal,
but immortality is given at the resurrection.
Nobody now possesses immortality.
Matter of fact, our bodies are called mortal bodies.
When Jesus comes,
then this mortal puts on immortality.
John 3:16, actually I think I've got one in Romans first,
let's do Romans 6:23.
"For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life."
Everybody here, you've got two options.
And I can promise you something,
everybody here will receive one of those two options.
And what are those two options?
Death, he doesn't say,
"The wages for sin is eternal life in fire."
He says, "The wages for sin is death."
The gift of God is eternal life.
Now, did Jesus die for our sins?
Did Jesus take the penalty for our sins?
Did Jesus just fall over and die
or did He suffer and die?
So the penalty for sin is not just death,
the ultimate penalty is death, but He suffered and died.
So if we do not embrace the sacrifice Jesus made
in our behalf,
we will also suffer and die for our own sins
if we do not accept Him as our replacement.
Does that make sense so far?
John 3:16, two options, "For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life."
There's only two options.
One option is not eternal life in the fire,
perish is the absence of life.
They're going to perish or everlasting life.
Jesus made that clear right there in John 3:16.
All right, question number four.
What happens to the wicked in hellfire?
Psalm 37:10
and then I'm also going to read verse 20,
you ought to read the whole Psalm.
What will happen to the wicked in hellfire?
Here we go.
"For yet a little while, and the wicked will not be:
yes, you will diligently consider his place,
and it shall not be."
They'll not be.
I mean, what other term
or words do you use to describe something ceasing to exist?
They'll not be.
"The wicked shall perish and the enemies of the Lord
will consume into smoke.
They will consume away."
And I've heard some pastors say,
"Well, yeah, that's true.
The bodies all burn up
but the soul continues to burn forever."
Oh, but Jesus said,
"The soul that sins it will die."
Actually, that's in Ezekiel.
Jesus said, "Fear not him who destroys the body,"
Matthew 10, "but cannot destroy the soul.
Rather, fear him who will destroy soul and body in hell."
It's not just the body that burns up,
the soul and body.
Malachi 4:1, this was in our scripture reading,
"For behold, the day is coming,
burning like an oven, and all the proud,
yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble.
And the day which is coming will burn them up,"
says the Lord of hosts,
"It will leave them neither root nor branch.'"
You think about the words that God is using here.
Let me give you one more
and I'll just try and sum this thought up for you.
Revelation 21:7 and 8,
"He who overcomes will inherit all things."
There's the good news, right?
"And I will be his God and he will be my son."
So on one side you've got the sheep,
they get the everlasting life, they're saved,
but, this is verse 8, Revelation 21:8,
"The cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers,
sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters,
and all liars will have their part in the lake
that burns with fire and brimstone,
which is the second death."
Revelation 20:9, where is hell going to burn?
At the end of the millennium
when Satan marshals those lost forces
against the city of God, it says,
"They go up on the breadth of the earth
and they surrounded the camp of the saints
and the beloved city.
And fire came down from God out of heaven
and devoured them."
That fire that rains down
surrounding the New Jerusalem forms a lake of fire.
It is on the earth. So where is hell going to burn?
On the earth.
I'll give you a few more verses.
Proverbs 11:31,
"The righteous will be recompensed in the earth:
much more the wicked and the sinner."
Everybody's going to get their reward
in the very place of the crime, right here on the planet.
2 Peter 3:10,
"But the day of the Lord
will come as a thief in the night,
in which the heavens will pass away
with a great noise,
and the elements will melt with fervent heat,
and both the earth and the works that are in
it will be burned up."
So it's always focused,
that judgment is right down here.
Hell is not a cavern off in the cosmos somewhere,
that's full of molten fire.
Hell is not a cavern down in the earth somewhere,
it's on the surface of the earth.
It's important to know that because once you know
where hell is, it becomes clear that for God
to make a new earth on this planet,
the two can't coexist together.
That means the fires of hell must go out.
Number six, this is one of the most important points
that I think is actually good news.
How long will the wicked suffer in the fire?
Well, you know the Bible doesn't give us an exact time
because it varies from person to person.
Revelation 22:12, Jesus said, last chapter of the Bible,
"And, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me,
to give to every man according as his work shall be."
Everyone is rewarded according to his work,
meaning there are varying works out there
and there are varying rewards.
If everybody burns eternally,
then everybody gets the same reward.
How could there be a variation?
"Well, some, it's hotter fire than for the others"
would be the answer.
Come on, if you get everlasting fire
and I get everlasting fire,
and just think about how unjust that would be
that you've got, you know, think of the biggest fiend
you can think of from history,
Pol Pot or Adolph Hitler, pick your fiend.
Some think that Stalin killed more than Hitler.
Pick your biggest fiend that you figure is lost
and on the judgment day
God says, "Lost, lake of fire for you."
And the angels toss him off in the molten lake of fire
and then you've got that teenager.
He's past the age of accountability,
he's old enough to know better but he rejects God,
takes his own life and the Lord says,
"Sorry, you can't be saved.
You can go burn forever
right next to Adolph or Stalin."
Is that justice?
No, I just, it absolutely violates our reason.
Well, the Bible is clear.
It says there are varying degrees of punishment.
And let me give you a few more verses on that.
Matthew 10:28,
"Fear not him that can kill the body,
but are not able to kill the soul..."
I think I quoted this already.
"But rather fear those that are able to destroy
soul and body in hell."
So in hell the wicked are destroyed.
Matthew 16, "He'll reward every man..."
16:27, "He'll reward every man according to his works."
Everybody.
Then again, we're saved by what?
Works or faith?
We're saved by faith and grace but works are the only thing
that's used in the judgment of the wicked.
Will the fire eventually go out?
Isaiah 47:14, it says,
"Behold, they will be as stubble,
for the fire will burn them," speaking of the wicked,
"they will not deliver themselves
from the power of the flame,
it shall not be a coal to be warmed by,
nor a fire to sit before."
Not even a coal left.
Malachi 4:3 makes it pretty clear,
"You will trample the wicked, for they will be ashes
under the soles of your feet on the day that I do this,"
says the Lord."'
So blessed are the meek, they will inherit the earth.
We go forth from the New Jerusalem
after the judgment of the wicked.
They've all been burned,
including the devil and his angels,
according to what they deserve.
And if anybody deserves to burn forever, who is it?
It'd be Lucifer.
And the Bible even says in Ezekiel,
"I will bring forth a fire from the midst of thee
and it will devour thee
and that will bring thee to ashes on the earth
in the sight of them that behold thee.
Thou shalt be a terror
and never shalt thou be anymore."
Never shalt thou be.
You don't ever have to worry about
Hitler escaping from prison, like Napoleon briefly did,
and another rebellion rising up.
He is going to be permanently dealt with.
He will burn longer than anyone else,
probably day and night.
And I'll explain those verses in our next study.
Again, Revelation 21:4 and 5,
"God will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
there shall be no more death,"
notice, "nor sorrow, nor crying."
He doesn't say no more crying among the saved.
He's talking about a world made new,
a new heaven, a new earth,
no more crying, no more crying anywhere.
"There shall be no more pain."
How can you have this vast warehouse filled with people
who are screaming and shrieking
and God saying, "Good news, there's no more pain."
Well, there is pain.
If, theoretically, the majority of the world is lost
and if you've got multiplied billions of people
that are writhing and shrieking in molten fire for eternity,
for God to say, "Good news, there's no more pain."
And wouldn't we have to all be brainwashed
and not remember any of the people
that we knew in this life that didn't make it?
And then we'd just, you know,
God's going to brainwash us like that
so we don't know what's going on,
I wish He'd do it now, right?
Just make me a saint right now
and make me oblivious to all the suffering right now.
But He's not. We're going to know.
That's why He's got to dry away tears
because there's going to be people
that are lost and they're punished,
but they're going to be put out of their misery.
God is going to comfort us by saying, "Good news.
No more pain. They're not suffering anymore."
They are eternally separated from God, yes.
They are destroyed with eternal destruction, yes.
The fire that burns them is an eternal fire,
they are burnt forever, gone,
but they're not still burning.
Matter of fact, if you want to know
what happens to the wicked,
there's a story in the Bible that tells us
exactly how it's going to end.
How many of you remember
the story of Sodom and Gomorrah?
And the Bible tells us there that, in Genesis 19:24.
I'll never forget, when I was 16 years old
I lived on a sailboat
and we sailed around the Mediterranean
and one of the places they took us
was the ruins of Pompeii.
They're not far from the foot of Mount Vesuvius,
the volcano blew up in about 79 A.D.
And it showered the cities of Pompeii
and Herculaneum with ashes and brimstone.
And some of the people escaped, Pliny the Elder, I think,
talked about it in a letter to his cousin
and some of the people actually made it out to the water
and they were barely able to escape the cloud of gases
and ash that came down and so many people in that,
it was the Las Vegas of the Roman Empire back then.
You can tell from the frescos on the walls,
they've got orgies painted on the walls
and basic pornography that survived.
They found it in 1874.
It had been buried under 20 feet of ash
and they've been excavating it ever since.
It's not even all excavated yet.
And every now and then they came to a cavity
and they thought, wait a second,
there was something in here
and so they'd mix up plaster of Paris
and they'd pour it in and they'd let it dry
and then they'd take away the ash
and they found what was in there
and these are some of the forms that they found.
These ghostly shapes of people, real people who lived,
that were basically incinerated,
they died but it left a vacuum
once their bodies decomposed in that chamber.
And it was just an awful destruction.
Fire rained from heaven, you might say,
and burnt the city of Pompeii.
Well, that made a pretty deep impression on me
when I saw that as a teenager
and I kind of was worried about what my future was.
Well, you know, the Bible tells us that
that's not that different from
what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah.
Genesis 19:24, "The Lord rained brimstone and fire
on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of heaven."
And Jesus, describing the end of the world in Luke 17,
says, it's going to be similar.
"Likewise, as it was in the days of Lot:
they ate and they drank, they bought and they sold,
they planted and they built,
but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom,
it rained fire and brimstone from heaven
and destroyed them all.
Even so will it be in the day
when the Son of Man is revealed."
Now here's the question.
Sodom and Gomorrah are set forth
as an example of what this fire is.
Are they still burning today?
Let me give you one more:
Jude 1:7,
"As Sodom and Gomorrah,
and the cities around them in a similar manner...
given themselves over to sexual immorality."
Boy, could it be much worse today than it was then?
Could it have been much worse then than it is today?
Could we share, as a world, in their fates?
"Having gone after strange flesh..."
You know what they mean by strange flesh?
It's not even natural sex, "are set forth as an example,
suffering the vengeance of,
notice this, suffering, they're an example of
"suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."
Sodom and Gomorrah were burned up with eternal fire.
Why does God call it eternal fire?
Because what that fire did to those cities was eternal.
They have never been rebuilt. They are still ruins today.
Are they still burning? No.
And again, 2 Peter 2:6,
"Turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes,
condemned them to destruction,
making them an example who should after live ungodly."
What was the example? They were turned into ashes.
They were burnt with eternal fire.
They are not still burning today.
We don't have to wonder
what's going to happen to the wicked.
God said, "I've given you exhibit A.
Let's go to that next slide.
Let's look at what the good news is that
we've learned about hell.
First of all, no one is burning in hell right now.
Can you say amen?
That's good news for people
who have been tormented by that idea.
Secondly, no one is going to burn in hell forever.
There is a lake of fire.
For my Baptist friends that may be watching
and you think, "You folks don't believe in fire.
You don't believe in hellfire."
My hellfire is hotter than your hellfire
because my hellfire burns them up,
your hellfire just roasts them forever, right?
And so, yes, we believe in hellfire
but it doesn't burn forever.
We've seen that from the Bible.
Hellfire will not put sinner.
Or Hellfire will put sinners out of their misery.
You ever thought of that?
Sinners are not happy,
like an animal suffering some incurable disease.
God is going to put sinners out of their misery.
And, you know, that is actually an act of love and mercy,
even in the way He deals with the lost.
Hellfire will purify the universe.
There's no more going to be sin or sinners.
All things are perfect and pure again.
And you don't need to go there.
That's the good news.
Yes, most of the world's going to make the wrong decision,
but there's no need for anyone to be lost
because the suffering that Jesus took upon Himself
was your suffering.
But you must embrace that.
It's something you must accept that He's taken your payment.

'What The Hell' Chaos Erupts In Oval Office As Smug Reporter Insults Trump - Duration: 3:36.'What The Hell' Chaos Erupts In Oval Office As Smug Reporter Insults Trump
President Donald Trump's sit-down with Face the Nation grew heated this weekend when CBS'
John Dickerson insulted the Commander-in-Chief in the Oval Office.
After Dickerson's line of questioning got seriously out of hand, chaos erupted, and
Trump decided to abruptly end the interview.
The exchange began with Dickerson asking whether former President Barack Obama had offered
his successor any advice since taking office, an absurdly stupid notion considering the
recent developments surrounding everything Obama secretly did to Trump during his campaign
and subsequent transition.
If there's one thing the president doesn't want, it's advice from Obama.
"He was very nice to me," said Trump, referring to when he met with Obama during
his transition, "but after that, we've had some difficulties."
This was an incredibly measured and diplomatic response given that Obama literally put measures
in place to sabotage Trump's presidency from the get-go.
Dickerson should have just let it go at the point, as Trump had already been exceedingly
gracious, considering the topic, but the reporter wouldn't drop it.
"Difficulties how?"
Dickerson pressed.
"Well, you saw what happened with surveillance, and I think that was inappropriate," responded
Trump, again exercising great restraint.
"What does that mean?"
furthered Dickerson, as if there was something ambiguous about the president's statement.
"You can figure that out yourself," said Trump.
"Well, the reason I ask is you called him 'sick' and 'bad,'" said Dickerson.
"Look, you can figure it out yourself.
He was very nice to me with words, and when I was with him, but after that, there has
been no relationship," Trump fired back at Dickerson.
"I think our side's been proven very strongly," added the president, referring again to the
surveillance scandal perpetrated by the Obama administration.
"Everybody's talking about it and, frankly, it should be discussed.
I think that is a very big – surveillance of our citizens – I think that's is a
very big topic, and it's a topic that should be number one.
And we should find out what the hell is going on."
With Dickerson still unwilling to drop his absurd line of questioning, Trump was forced
to abruptly end the interview to get the relentless reporter out of his office.
It goes without saying that the media would have never treated their precious Barack Obama
this way, which is one reason they were recently given the title "very fake news."
If the worst President Donald Trump has to say about Barack Obama is that he is "sick"
and "bad," I'd say he's being quite conservative in his estimation of a man who
was perhaps the most destructive president the United States has ever seen.

Transgender People Should Be Able to Use the Bathroom of Their Choice | Elijah Nealy - Duration: 4:56.Yes, I think the bathroom debate is largely a distraction, and based on erroneous assumptions:
One of which is the assumption that all trans women are predators, and that's not any
more true than the myth that existed 25 years ago that all gay men are predators.
The reality is most sexual predators are cisgender straight men.
Most women and boys that experience sexual assault growing up experienced that at the
hands of a cisgender straight male perpetrator.
The second erroneous assumption is that transgender women are using the women's restroom for
any reason other than what any other women would use the restroom.
They're simply using the restroom to take care of bodily functions that we all have,
and that myth or negative myth or stereotype as trans women as predators is not valid.
There's virtually no data that documents trans women attacking other women in public
restrooms.
It's simply not true.
But it is used and being used to police trans people and to attempt to legislate transgender
people out of existence in many ways and to invalidate their existence—their right to
exist in the world alongside, the same as, anyone else's right to exist.
It's also not very workable, right, because as a transgender man in some states I would
be expected to use the bathroom that matches my biological sex.
But the reality is I don't think many women would feel comfortable in the women's room
with me there.
And there are trans men all over the country, and in all the states that are looking at
these laws are enacting them who move through the world being seen only as men who would
be very out of place in the women's room.
And there are many, many transwomen who move through the world being seen as women and
would be very out of place and at very high risk if they were to be forced to use the
men's room.
So the reality is while there's this guise of protecting women, it's both not effective
in that it means men like me would be using the women's room, and if it were really
about protecting women we'd see a whole slate of other bills around discrimination
against women and women's bodies happening in the public sphere.
Being able to use a bathroom that aligns with your affirmed gender identity or gender presentation
is an absolutely critical issue for trans people.
Number one, being able to use the bathroom is a simple biological need and function that
we all have, and it's something that none of us should have to think twice about.
It's something that none of us should need an app in order to find a safe bathroom for
when we're out in public.
It's something that we should be able to take care of and move on with our lives and
not even give a second thought to.
What we have instead is transgender adolescents, middle and high school, elementary school
kids, adults not using the restroom all day long at school because they're not allowed
to use the restroom that matches their gender identity or gender presentation.
And rather than experience the gender dysphoria or the harassment that comes with being in
a restroom that doesn't match their affirmed gender they're choosing not to use the restroom,
and there are medical risks, physical health risks associated with not using the restroom
for extended hours at a time.
It's also a way of saying we don't believe you are who you are.
So when Gavin Grimm is told "You can't use the men's room" at his high school,
the underlying message he's being given is, "We don't see you as a man.
We don't believe you really are a man."
And that kind of message is crazy-making for any of us.
The reality is: as human beings all of us want to be seen for who we really are.
We want to be acknowledged for who we know ourselves to be.
We want to be accepted for who we are and loved for who we are by the people closest
to us, not in spite of who we are.
And when someone, a young trans man like Gavin Grimm, is allowed to use the men's room,
what he experiences is an affirmation that, "We respect, we acknowledge you know who
you are as a young man."

FRIDA'S WORDS | Eileen Aldis - Duration: 3:35.I used to think I was the strangest person in the world.
But then I thought there are so many people in the world,
there must be someone just like me
who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do.
I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me, too.
I hope that if you are out there, you know that, yes, it's true I'm here, and I'm just as strange as you.
Nothing is absolute.
Everything changes, everything moves, everything revolves, everything flies and goes away.
I think that little by little I'll be able to solve my problems and survive.
At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.
I paint flowers so they will not die.
Passion is the bridge that takes you from pain to change.
Nothing is worth more than laughter.
It is strength to laugh and to abandon oneself,
to be light.
I love you more than my own skin and even though you don't love me the same way,
you love me anyways, don't you?
And if you don't, I'll always have the hope that you do, and I'm satisfied with that.
Love me a little.
I adore you.
Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?
Can one invent verbs?
I want to tell you one:
I sky you,
so my wings extend so large to love you without measure.
I want a storm to come and flood us into a song that no one wrote.
I leave you my portrait so that you will have my presence all the days and nights
that I am away from you.
I am my own muse, I am the subject I know best.
The subject I want to know better.
Anguish and pain,
pleasure and death
are no more than a process for existence.
I hope the exit is joyful and I hope never to return.

Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb In the shape of an "L" on her forehead Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running Didn't make sense not to live for fun Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb So much to do, so much to see So what's wrong with taking the back streets? You'll never know if you don't go You'll never shine if you don't glow Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold It's a cool place and they say it gets colder You're bundled up now, wait till you get older But the meteor men beg to differ Judging by the hole in the satellite picture The ice we skate is getting pretty thin The water's getting warm so you might as well swim My world's on fire, how about yours? That's the way I like it and I never get bored Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid All that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show, on get paid And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas? I need to get myself away from this place I said yep what a concept I could use a little fuel myself And we could all use a little change Well, the years start coming and they don't stop coming Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running Didn't make sense not to live for fun Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb So much to do, so much to see So what's wrong with taking the back streets? You'll never know if you don't go (go!) You'll never shine if you don't glow Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold

Springsteen Hated 'Born In The USA' Song, Meet The Patriot Who Saved It - Duration: 4:18.Springsteen Hated 'Born In The USA' Song, Meet The Patriot Who Saved It
If it was left up to Bruce Springsteen, the mega-hit song "Born in the USA" would
never have been heard by anyone.
In a recent interview, Springsteen pissed off a lot of middle-class Americans as he
revealed why he hates that song and tried to tank it.
Luckily, there was one patriot who urged Springsteen to keep it, but you'll be shocked at Springsteen's
words for anyone who feels pride listening to that song.
Bruce Springsteen's is pissing off his fan base as he reveals that he is not the person
he has been portraying himself to be.
He made his money as the working class rocker who related to those Americans who loved their
country.
Now, Bruce admits he hated one of his biggest hits, "Born in the USA."
"Bruce Springsteen has revealed he nearly gave up one of his most iconic anthems 'Born
In The USA,' admitting he believed it was too insincere," reports Daily Mail.
Speaking at a Q&A session with Tom Hanks at the Tribeca Film Festival, the 67-year-old
rocker opened up to the Oscar-winning actor, insisting that it was E Street Band guitarist
Stevie Van Zandt who convinced him to keep the 1984 hit.
Bruce confessed, "I remember at the time thinking it's too glib.
It's too glib.
I think I still think that.
But Stevie said, 'No, no, no – it's about the band, the brotherhood of the band,
the fans.'"
So, Bruce Springsteen thinks "Born in the USA" is too glib, meaning shallow and insincere.
How is taking pride in your country and honoring Vietnam veterans shallow?
The song's lyrics tell the tale of a Vietnam vet, and those vets cherish the song.
Stevie Van Zandt is also known for his role on "The Sopranos."
Van Zandt is the son of Italian immigrants, and he took his stepfather's last name after
his father died and his mother remarried.
Van Zandt stays clear of politics, but he did make headlines when he defended Mike Pence
and told those in the Broadway production of "Hamilton" to apologize for their rudeness
to the Vice President.
"I gave him the benefit of the doubt [about Born in the USA]," Springsteen said of Stevie
Van Zandt.
"We've played it an awful lot ever since.
But I was always a little frightened of it.
And the whole record I always have mixed feelings about."
The older Bruce Springsteen gets, the more his far leftist views are coming out.
"The Boss" made his fans believe he was like them.
Springsteen's fan base has been patriotic Americans, just like Trump's supporters.
It's the forgotten men and women who work in the factories, our veterans, and those
who live in the same towns they were born in, hoping to keep the values intact.
Now, Bruce is spitting in their faces by saying "Born in the USA" is a shallow, insincere
song.
It angers people when they feel duped.
Springsteen joins the ranks of the other Barack Obama sycophants who hate America.
These idiots get rich, and they forget there is nothing really special about them.
Bruce Springsteen can play guitar and can sing a song, so what?
Somehow, it goes to their heads and they become arrogant fools.
Stevie Van Zandt understood patriotic Americans and proved Bruce is the insincere, shallow
one, not the song "Born in the USA."

My Dutch Friends Try American Treats Part 2 - Duration: 26:53.This is Jay, and this is Nicky.
And today we're going to try American treats.
Yes, but I already know this.
Yes. - Yes.
We also sell these in the Netherlands, but I found out later.
Yes, delicious.
Really delicious.
Eight.
Yes, eight.
Scored well.
Yes, I find this chips delicious.
This is one of my favorite chips.
This also exists in the Netherlands.
You're really dissecting that thing.
Yes, it has to come out clean.
Oh, well, Nicky, you can break it off.
Do you want more? - No.
This is simply "After Eight".
I like this!
Yes, it's good. - I rate this with a seven.
Seven. - Yes (seven).
You're doing a great job switching flavors.
It's a delicious idea to have toffee in your mouth and then to consider eating chips and stuff.
Is that good or not?
Do you want something sweet or salty? - This looks like Bits.
No, it's not Bits.
There are different types.
This long circle tastes like liver pie - really gross.
No.
Liver pie?
This tastes like garlic; Delicious. - Oh, the squares...yes, exactly.
The squares taste like this.
Yes. - Salty chips.
Yes.
And the other chip also.
I don't like this. - No.
I kinda like the big brown one.
This is kinda like the cheap chips from Deen. - Yes, indeed.
It reminds me of that where you have a tray with four kinds.
Yes, yes, yes. With those pretzels. - And little fish.
Yes. - I don't like this.
No? - I rate this with... a four. - The big brown one is mhwua.
A four and a three? Wow. - Three-and-a-half.
I'm taking two because you can taste it well then.
I'm taking six. There are different colors!
Yes. A dark green and a lighter green.
Yes but... - Do they taste differently? - No, they taste the same.
It tastes like M&M's with mint.
It tastes like After Eight.
Everything is... - It tastes better than the other one.
Yes? The other one has a different structure on the inside.
They're good M&M's.
But the mint is too present compared to the chocolate.
Yes. - Yes.
I rate it with a seven.
That's pretty good! - Seven-and-a-half. - Seven-and-a-half.
Next: Let's try something salty.
You should also give us something to neutralize our mouths at times.
Should I grab some water? - No, I'm joking.
But these are spicy. - Is it really spicy?
I like spicy; I don't think it's spicy.
I hate spicy. I can't handle it.
I think I'm going to die, but it'll be funny. I'll be tearing up and drooling, so I'll eat it.
American-ish. - American-ish.
These are so delicious.
We used to have... We used to have that tiger!
Yes, chee... With those cheese balls.
Yes, yes, yes. - We don't have those anymore?
No, the tiger not anymore, but we do have Cheetos.
But we had the balls.
I have a lot of chocolate in my mouth still.
This isn't really spicy.
It'll come.
I like it.
No, it's getting hot!
Is there also gelatin in here?
No.
At first, it tastes like Cheetos, but now...
I find it too spicy.
No.
Yes, now I can also feel it.
Yes, that's what I said. It comes later.
Do you like it? - No.
Do you like it? - I like it, but it's a tad too spicy.
At first, it tastes good since it tastes cheesy.
But afterwards, it's too spicy for me.
Now it seriously hurts.
Sorry.
Now something tasty.
I rate this with a two.
A two? - What? No.
I don't like it.
A seven
Good job.
Hi Mieuw.
Why are they kids? Are we going to eat kids?!
Yes. - Alive or dead?
They are called Sour Patch Kids because... - Oh wow, these are a lot softer.
- ... they do. - Softer than I expected. - Yes?
The shape of kids or something?
Yes. According to the commercial, they're bad (sour), but from the inside they're sweet.
That's the commercial.
Lovely idea.
I don't really like sour.
These candies we have in the Netherlands as well.
I first eat the sour part, and then the candy tastes good, but I never like the sour part.
So I get... - You know what it reminds me of? Fresh bottles.
No, fresh bottles... - Yes, we used to be able to buy them at school.
Oh, those colorful ones?
What color is this? Blue right?
No, red. - No, red.
It tastes really chemically.
How many E-numbers are in there?
There aren't any E-numbers on here.
Oh my gosh, I am eating E-numbers.
But I am vegan!
But I think...
OK, Nicky said: It doesn't taste like anything.
I expected it to be delicious because... - Yes, it looks delicious. - ... it looks delicious.
It is fake-ish.
I just thought: I really want to eat this, but it barely tastes like anything.
I even find it a little gross.
I don't like them either. - A gross structure.
I don't like Twizzlers. - How can you eat this?
I barely eat this.
I rate it with a one.
I rate this with a one-and-a-half.
No, a two-and-a-half because it's better to eat than the chips, and I rated that with a two.
Yes, that's normal candy. - What's that?
Gummies.
I also want a red one.
Wait, I'll do it like this.
I already have it in my mouth, so I can rinse the spicy flavor.
Oh, but these are softer.
It tastes chemically.
Yes, that's very correct.
It tastes like "filled cookies" (gevulde koek). - It says natural and artificial... - It tastes like E-numbers.
"Filled cookies"? - But this sticks... yes!
What? - Like almond paste.
No. - Yes.
Yes, it tastes like almond paste.
The red ones? - Yes.
It tastes like almond paste.
Oh yes! - My mouth is still spicy.
I rate this with... - I rate this with a six.
That's quite high. - Yes, I would eat it if I were to have it.
A five-and-a-half. - Not the chips.
Five-and-a-half and six.
Last
And to be exact: Brown Sugar Cinnamon
And there's gelatin in here.
So... - Really?
Yes. - How is that possible?
You can also put it in the "jump-bread-thing".
What do you call that? - Toaster.
Yes, but that's not what it's called in Dutch.
Toaster. -Yes.
And I usually eat it that way.
Until I found out... - Yes, it's not the greatest like this.
I really like the inside.
But the outside reminds me of half raw dough or something.
What do you think of that kids eat this for breakfast?
Bad. - Bad.
How would you rate this?
I rate this with a seven.
That's pretty good.
Without a toaster, a six.
With toaster, a seven.
How do you know that?
Because I ate it out of the toaster before.
But exactly this flavor?
No, but I know it tastes better with toaster.
And that was it.
What did you think of it?
Interesting.
It's like...
similar like the treats in the Netherlands. - Most of it is similar to candies in the Netherlands.
but the vegetable soup was really like...
And the Swedish Fish was really the best. - Yes.
Yes? - I like the rope the best.
Let me know in the comments below what you thought of it, and what you like to try.
And I hope to see you later. Bye!

Faux Bleached Brow Tutorial | NO BLEACH! - Duration: 5:08.hey guys welcome back my name is Taylor
ash your first time here my name is Kate
I just had that hey guys welcome back to
my channel is this your first time here
my name is Taylor and this is my channel
Taylor tots today I want to show you
guys how to do faux bleach brows now why
would you want to do bleach brows that's
so weird who does that
well it's become a very iconic thing to
do a lot of celebrities are doing it
Lady Gaga Katy Perry Kim Kardashian did
it it's just kind of like a fun look
without actually bleaching your eyebrows
so if you guys like know how to quickly
and temporarily bleach your eyebrows
keep on watching so for the first step
I'm going to be taking a spoolie and
just combing my hairs in the direction I
want them you can do a crazy feathered
look or you can do more of a comb look I
like the more comb look because my brows
are already pretty thick so don't make
my name crazier looking alright so step
one is to get a peach color corrector
what this does if you look at a color
wheel the color peach is pretty much the
opposite of the color blue or any darker
color so that's why people color correct
under their eyes at peach the blue veins
that are underneath the dark circles are
the opposite color of the peach so it
kind of neutralized that color canceled
out that color you're going to take the
peach and you're just going to kind of
comb it through your brow I'm using the
color correct to stick in the light skin
tones by elf so you're just going to
comb it through there and already you
can see what this does to the brow
you're going to also want to go back and
with that spoolie and comb it out
because you don't want your brow looking
clunky at all so a better manner you can
probably do it is applying this directly
to your spoolie so you don't have all
that extra edge that you have to smear
and blend in later but and the end
result you could just blend it in and
it's fine
alright step two I wanted to use a
product I know a lot of you guys have at
home with the Maybelline instant age
rewind dark concealer and what you're
going to do is you're just going to
blend that right into the brow again you
can put this right on your spoolie but I
just feel like this is quicker if you
know
it's Messier alright so then from there
you're just going to brush it in again
and you can either take a brush or your
finger to just blend out that
surrounding area and oh my gosh already
you can see the difference between this
eyebrow that I haven't touched and this
eyebrow this was a really quick really
easy way to get faux bleach eyebrows I
did not think there's gonna be this easy
so again we can do the eyebrow I'll do
it the right way the right way this time
you can take the color corrector and I'm
just going to put it right on top of
this fully there from there you can just
kind of brush that in I feel like this
just takes a lot more time and you use a
lot more product this way and now look
my concealer stick is like all messed up
but nevertheless so again that just
neutralizes the color of your darker
brows I have pretty dark eyebrows so if
you're already starting off with lighter
blonde eyebrows I can only heisman this
is going look even more bleached and
more you know it's gone this is
crazy-looking from there you're going to
go back in with your concealer
all right so there you go these pahoa
bleach eyebrows look it looks absolutely
crazy but this is something pretty cool
to do for a costume or if you're just
really into fashion you want
Felipe's eyebrows but you don't actually
want to bleach them it was super easy it
was literally just three things that you
need and you can get both eyebrows this
is pretty freaky as you I want to go
scare someone with this right now do you
notice anything different about me
that's all you notice
I probably won't open them clean
no I bleached my eyebrows your what I
believe yeah I read your eyebrows what
color come on
well they're so Brown what do you mean
did you really turn brown how do you
like it what's different about me not
liking it
what do you do I believe them lean is
ridiculous all right guys thank you so
much for watching I really appreciate it
I hope you guys enjoyed this
so eyebrow look and if you guys want to
see more videos leave some comment
suggestions below on what you would like
to see me do and I will see you guys
next time bye

An Ode - Duration: 1:52.okay I am shooting this later than I
intended I intended to do it during
Golden Hour but instead I'm doing it now
and I'm lighting myself with a flashlight
so that hopefully I am not utterly
blinded because my intention is I'm
going to show you a preview of what I was
intending to put up online today but did
not have the time to do a good edit of
and while I do that preview I'm going to
read something completely unrelated it
is a poem I wrote many years ago when I
was going to try to see if I could write
sort of a love poem type thing and I've
just given it a title I didn't title it
many years ago it is called An Ode and
let's see if I can read it to you while
I show you a visual preview of what will
hopefully go live next week
here we go
An Ode
by David August
It seems to make my breathing easier
to know that I can hold you in my arms
where nothing can distract from being yours
completely with my body and my soul.
A warmth envelopes me in your embrace
that seems to make all cold impossible
erasing any fears that I could have
of ever being far away from you.
The bliss you are redeems my every wrong
removing all the harm that I have done
replacing every crime with its reverse
you fill my every fault with your good grace.
No sorrows visit me when I'm with you
it seems no grief can touch me in your arms.
so thanks for watching and tune in next
week for more from the hunt for wildflowers
near the San Andreas Fault

Somos controlados por mensagens subliminares? - Duration: 5:56.It is through our perception that we manage to organize and understand
the information we receive through our senses.
Psychology has long been debating issues
related to the limits of our perception
and between what are conscious and nonconscious processes.
Have you ever heard about subliminal messages and subliminal perception?
This is a very interesting subject and we will approach it next in this new video!
Generally we can say that stimuli that are
below our threshold of detection or identification
sort of awaken an unaware activation.
This is our subliminal perception,
of which we are not aware but which can,
however, influence our behavior.
Subliminal messages are then any kind of
stimuli, for example a sound or an image,
which we apparently do not detect because they are
below the limits of our consciousness,
but are perceived by our subconscious.
There is some research on this subject prior to the 1950s.
But it was during this decade that the subliminal perception
began to have a great prominence.
It all began in 1957 when James Vicary presented the
results of an experiment he had made in a movie theater
during a movie.
In movie theaters films are projected at 24 frames per second
and Vicary has projected over some of those frames frases like: eat popcorns
and also drink coca cola,
at a quick 3 milliseconds, a speed
that apparently we can not detect,
but which is perceived by our eyes and our brain is informed.
The final results of the study showed that after people saw the film
the consumption of popcorn increased by almost 58%
and coca cola by 18%.
However, Vicary's experience was greatly contested.
And the truth is that certain aspects of the methodology used were kept hidden,
apparently for patent-related issues,
but the data from a retest did not confirm the results
and Vicary's experience was considered to have no validity.
But the interest in this theme continued.
The idea that our behaviors can be
influenced by stimuli that are not detected,
at least in a conscious way,
has retained the interest of the general public,
researchers, industry and even politics.
But it also raised ethical questions:
after all, is it permissible to make any kind of propaganda in this way?
Subliminal messages are at the basis of the creation of
various laws and codes of ethics relating to advertising.
In Portugal, for example, one of the articles related to the advertising code
explicitly states that subliminal messages can not be used.
In Brazil, the laws do not clearly prohibit the use of these strategies,
but the Consumer Protection Code allows the opening of proceedings
in case people feel cheated by advertising.
More recent investigations have taken these
laws and codes of ethics into account,
and for that reason have faced this same subject in another form:
they used, for example, music,
which is a stimulus that we capture and can perceive consciously,
and realized that it can influence our
behavior in a way that is not always conscious.
Of course, the results of these studies should be analyzed
very carefully and generalization must not always take place.
For example, a 1982 survey looked at grocery sales,
comparing times when they had
slower and faster background music.
According to this study the rhythm of music significantly affected
the rhythm of the flow of people,
that is, with a slower pace people were lingering longer in the supermarket.
They also found that by the time when the music
was slower, sales also went up,
that is, customers taking longer in the supermarket made them buy more.
Another study, this time in 1999
also did a test with music in a supermarket.
In the wine section they tried to check whether French music and German music
would influence the purchase of French and German wines.
And in fact they found these results:
in the days when they played French music
more French wines were sold
and in the days when they played German music more German wines were sold.
But after all, can we say that our behaviors
can be controlled by some external stimulus
and in a non-conscious way?
The answer is that in experimental conditions
some control may actually be achieved
and this has been found in some investigations.
So it is possible to influence our behavior in this way.
But influencing is different from determining:
In the case of wines, for example, music did
not dictate that the person would buy wine.
Probably people have already entered the supermarket wanting to buy it.
However, the music seems to have influenced the choice of wine itself.
With so much research in this area and so much knowledge gained over decades,
it is legitimate to think that these techniques are more widely used
than we might think at first glance,
and that what we believe to be a deliberate choice
may not always be of our own free will!

ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES: A YEAR IN REVIEW with AUDIO DESCRIPTIONS - Duration: 4:52.From the Jaguar Office of Learning Technologies at Johnston Community College.
Welcome to Endless Opportunities: A Year in Review.
With your host, Milton Costen.
Welcome to Endless Opportunities.
I'm Milton Costen.
Thank you for joining us for our "A Year in Review" episode.
We'll begin by highlighting the debut of JOLT's Endless Opportunities program that
first aired in the Fall of 2016.
The Endless Opportunities team showcased some of the best and brightest that JCC has to
offer.
While we couldn't feature everything in our first season, here are some of the highlights
from the 2016 - 2017 academic year.
JCC welcomed several new experiences to campus, with memorable moments both in and out of
the classroom.
As a college, JCC received nominations for two significant awards this year: The Aspen
Prize and The Bellwether Award.
JCC was one of 150 community colleges that competed for the $1 million dollar Aspen Prize
for Community College excellence.
JCC was also one of 10 community colleges in the nation named as a Bellwether Award
Finalist.
Several programs here on campus had notable accomplishments as well.
In Health Sciences, the sonography program received the distinction of being named one
of the top 20 in the nation by the Committee for Accredited Online Schools.
Graduates from the nursing program earned a 100% passing rate on the NCLEX-RN Licensure
exam, exceeding state and national averages.
In addition to that, JCC's Cosmetology program welcomed a Spanish-language program designed
specifically for Spanish-speaking learners.
With so many excellent programs, JCC continued to make efforts to promote community awareness.
In February, JCC hosted the Career & College Promise Expo, where hundreds of area high
schoolers turned out to learn more about earning college credit.
The Career in a Year event in March was also a success, with over 300 people turning out
to hear more about JCC's Career & Technical Education Programs.
Also, the JOCO Robos Team, a partnership between area high schoolers and JCC's Associates
in Engineering program, competed in two district competitions in Winterville and Raleigh.
Sports had an exciting year at JCC.
In addition to offering Men's and Women's golf, 2016 saw the return of men's and women's
basketball to campus and in January, the JCC's Men's Team was invited to play UNC-Chapel
Hill's JV Team at the Dean Dome.
We look forward to more next year.
Go Jaguars!
And finally JCC was proud to open Chef Judy's Jaguar Grill in the Wilson Building, replacing
the old grill area.
Chef Judy's opened in October and has been a bright presence on the JCC Campus.
Next year, look out for more facilities renovations, including a major renovation on the Tart Building.
As you can see, the 2016-2017 year has truly been a year of endless opportunities, from
the classroom to community and beyond.
I'm Milton Costen.
Thank you for joining us and we hope to see you again in
the Fall.
