Morning Report: Robert Whittaker on Yoel Romero's 'superhuman' traits: I'm leaving that down to nothing more than magic

At UFC 225, Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero fought to a contentious split decision, but the controversy wasn't just about the outcome of the fight.

Romero missed weight for the bout, coming in .2 pounds over the contracted limit.

But despite the fact that the weight cut was clearly hard on him, Romero showed no ill effects inside the cage, dropping Whittaker and nearly finishing the fight on several occasions.

Now, Whittaker wants in on whatever secrets Romero has to recover from bad weight cuts, because the middleweight champion says Romero's recovery was "superhuman.".

"Whatever Romero's rehydration program is, I would like to get on that because he looked huge," Whittaker told GrangeTV recently.

"He looked massive from the skeleton I saw the day before and him missing [weight] and looking like he was going to die, to him hopping back in that octagon, it was like two different guys.

And taking head shots like, I hit him a lot and he was able to just walk through those shots.

"Whatever he's hydrating on, I would like to know so that I can also hydrate on that because it turns you superhuman just about.

When I was punching and kicking him, he felt like metal, like a dude made out of concrete.

I was ridiculous.

I fought him a year ago, and he didn't feel like concrete.".

Romero has had a reputation as a physical and athletic freak dating all the way back to his wrestling career, but at the age of 41, most would expect the Olympic silver medalist to begin slowing down at some point.

Instead, Romero has looked better than ever in recent bouts and, despite a hard weight cut and his advanced age, still walked through heavy shots from the champion.

For Whittaker, there is only one viable explanation for how Romero could somehow be in even better shape for their rematch: magic.

"I'm pretty sure I hit hard," Whittaker said.

"You can ask all my other opponents if I hit hard.

I've stopped dudes that don't get stopped and - I don't know.

He's a top caliber athlete but for him to come back the way he did and for him to feel so differently and perform so differently than he did a year ago - let's not forget, I have fought him before, I have experienced his shots, I've experienced landing shots on him, I've fought him before.

For him to make those changes physically and athletically in a year, at the age of 41, I'm leaving that down to nothing more than magic, honestly.

I can't see you jumping on a special diet filled with kale and good fruits and then performing like him.

"Everything I did was in the game plan and it worked successfully.

The only thing we didn't count on was one, breaking my right hand, and two, him being Robocop.

You can't account for that.

He's a tough dude and he took a lot of shots.

I've hit guys much less than that and they don't stay in the fight, and they're all tough dudes.".

Whittaker and Romero have now fought each other for 50 minutes, producing two Fight of the Year candidates, and many fans are clamoring for a third tilt, especially given the controversial scoring in their most recent bout.

But Whittaker isn't too keen on the idea of having to face "Robocop" again after having two in the win column over him.

The champion says he's on to other things and that if Romero wants another crack at him, he'll have to pull some more magic out of his hat.

"Why would I fight someone again after beating him twice?" Whittaker asked.

"Surely the point has been made.

And he didn't make weight the second time.

That's not to say that if he works his way up and beats the top contenders again that I won't have to fight him because my whole thing is that I have to fight the biggest dude, the dude who is cleaning out the division and fought his way up to the number one spot.

But I've now beaten him twice.

He'd have to do something special to get a third shot.".

first cheat day here in Italy if not with one 20,000 calories challenge! exact guys

because you really asked me for it really many so why not

serve me in my first cheat day here in Italy? first of all I want to talk to you about the approach I have implemented

for this challenge 20,000 calories, this I was in the gym in the morning I had my leg day

an hour and a half more or less abdominal then in the afternoon I went for one

nice walk 2 hours to be precise 12 km not bad and this why?

because anyway I want to start with a nice caloric deficit then

I will be able to asphalt this challenge as simply as possible!

all surrounded by intermittent fasting

in fact my last meal was yesterday last night at midnight then 24 hours of

intermittent fasting! but let's introduce this table ninja challenge!

2 simple rules!

rule number 1 I will not count any calories from liquids!

because let's face it all guys in a 20,000 calorie challenge to count liquids is from pivelli in short no?

rule number 2

this challenge will start after midnight and of course it will last 24 hours so we will have time

until the next midnight to destroy this 20000 calorie challenge!

so table ninja we just have to leave with the usual practice !!

physical check!

off the shirt

this is my current physique, you have not seen it for a long time I think!

I think I'm ready table ninja! how about?

and weight control!

obviously guys I'll show you the time of my right weight so that you can trust me

65.4 the starting point

and 7.4% of fat mass

as you can see guys I still lost fat mass

from my last cheat day in the UK so I really feel

load load to destroy this 20,000 calorie challenge!

well guys I just have to wait for midnight

so now I'm going to get a nice shopping myself

I will prepare everything, I'll see what I can eat even if I already have good ideas

and finally a bacon king BBQ

with 8 slices of bacon guys obviously with all this salty guys

we need some Desert! so lemon cake and what's missing?

as usual guys

my diet coke!

indeed coca cola light in Italy then mine coca cola light

obviously a cup to celebrate my return to Italy

as usual, I have a camera in front of me

I have a camera next to me

and guys we just have to start but first

better to get comfortable no?

Thursday 21 June at 00:05

Thomas is hungry! and so let's start!

and I guys would start with this angry supreme

review guys? amazing this is really really good

I had never tried boys! I will I recommend guys this is an angry supreme it's ..

fabulous! I love Burger King so ...

el angry supreme boys ...

He goes away!

next one! big king chicken BBQ

if you want my opinion guys I think that the Burger King of Italy is very much

better then Burger King of the uk

1 to 0 for Italy!

and also the big king chicken BBQ

He goes away!

fork and knife because it's time to finally enjoy a good Italian pizza

finally guys parmigiana!

as you can see

guys this is one so Neapolitan pizza is

practically Neapolitan pizza! let's try this fantastic pizza!

Domino's, Papa John's

let's leave guys! Italian pizza is the best pizza in the world!

amazing !!!

What can I tell you guys? this pizza is the end of the world!

I really missed Italian pizza!

you have no idea how much I missed the italian pizza guys!

table ninja

I'm so happy right now!

Pizza!!!!!!

and half boys it's already gone ..

I regretted taking only one sincerely

however I still have plans to make a cheat day of pizzas so you are connected!

ok guys time to go and savor this

big King bacon BBQ as you can see guys there are 8 slices of bacon

2 slices of meat, cheese and more! believe it or not in this sandwich there are

1100 calories guys !! Absurd!!

this guys is, this is really amazing

but this, this is really amazing!

if you have the chance go and try it because

this, this is fantastic!

sorry if I keep talking but guys this is really amazing!

and even the bacon king BBQ goes away!

let's go on with the pizza guys! with this fantastic parmigiana

table ninja

pizza and donuts my favorite thing and cereal obviously

this is the last slice of pizza guys to finish this salty meal!

everything really fantastic, however, to be honest pizza

I really missed the pizza

especially the parmigiana this pizza for me was really a panacea!

let me do some cleaning guys because I want to have the table well prepared for a little dessert, right?

there should be waiters to do this job

ah already .. I was a waiter so it's my job!

well much better then guys

I was really really curious to try this lemon cake

in there is cream and a little dessert does not want us? in our first meal then

lemon cake

we do not lose the vices! Ready?

and here you go boys lemon pie with lemon cream inside the white mill!

really exceptional table ninja go buy it immediately and try it!

this is really good

guys .. of course !! I recommend it!

the last slice of table ninja of this tasty lemon cake

and with this little piece of cake I declare this first meal ended!

amazing! 0:55 guys, table ninja I go to bed

and we'll see each other tomorrow morning to continue this catastrophic challenge !!

good morning ninja

it's 7:44 am which means cardio but first table ninja ...

tell the truth! you were about to say tea! and instead a nice coffee!

the coffee of the tea is much better! since I came back to Italy, I took tea

and I introduced another coffee do not ask me why maybe because I'm crazy

for coffee? anyway I'm sleeping really well I'm sleeping

7-8 hours a day then

let me put it at ease because in Italy it is

really really hot! better !!

then this morning cardio I'm going to go to

run even if it will be very very hot because out of it is already 28 degrees and there is one

sun that splits the stones but better not? sauna! I do not know how much I'll run, I do not know if

I will run for 20 km or only for 12 see

what else! ah you cardio!

as I said 12 km gone!

as you can see from my map

12 km of course I held a course low enough rhythm because boys

with this heat it was impossible to hold a faster pace I failed to

do more than 12 km! I was collapsing under this sun anyway

fresh amino acids because I have a thirst terrible!

now I'm going to shoot me 30 minutes of spinning and we'll see you later!

and here is the 30 minutes of spinning guys, I changed my mind I came down

I saw the exercise bike I saw the shower I had a hot beast

and I said refreshing shower! and now relax guys, a good half hour of bed maybe I'll do

another nap and we, the table ninja, see each other more

late for the second meal of this 20,000 calorie challenge! a later ninja

and here we are guys again a table! table ninja here are

really really a lot of sugar in it this breakfast

breakfast 12:20

sounds good? sounds good! so guys we have

these oreo enrobed white I do not know how to pronounce as you can see

never tried I'm really curious!

we have these Oreo enrobed not written anything but I think it's black

with black chocolate! then we have guys these pop tarts

these are really really high-calorie guys think that for just a pop art

ok pop tarts sorry! we have exactly 200 calories! this is almost like a donut a thing

crazy guys! guys I just have to stay start this breakfast

table ninja I have my coffee, of course, just woke up because I slept a beautiful one

now to be sincere after my today's cardio we have milk because with all this chocolate

there's a bit of milk, right?

it is 12:40 hours always on Thursday 21 June

off the shirt!

much better! and guys, let's start!

I would start with this pop tart, this is it

here it is guys!

this time the microwaves one by one in fact I spent 20 minutes!

really really good guys! really good

I remember that I had tried them once in one of my cheat days

but I had not roasted them in the toaster and

they were not who knows but toasted guys ... amazing !!

next guys this is one

here she is

I try it only for you!

not bad, not bad! I preferred

the other, however, was much chocolaty!

anyway, this too good!

next guys mom what a name impossible !!

here it is!

let's try it!

yes, it's not bad either, but I always say to you I prefer donuts!

time to try the

I have no idea what it means but ..

good guys amazing this is very good! really good! this deserves!

well now I would say to try these Oreo no?

I'm really curious then

let's try this oreo enrobed chocolate here it is!

simply oreo covered with chocolate!

it almost looks like chocolate frosted?

nothing says I prefer normal hours

oreo enrobed white! easy!

same thing a normal oreo glazed with white chocolate

yes you do not miss who knows what it's like to eat an oreo with extra chocolate!

well tried all and now we just have to eat

the sugars boys start to make feel

good, however, not bad even the hours but I prefer those normal

sandwich of oreo!

l last hours or white guys

and these

they leave

the last chocolate hour!

and these too

Street! these pop tarts remain

and they are really really many!

let's see what we can do!

it's like guys

Red card!

bullshits!

however casserole ..

now they are starting to really be really dry! my mouth is kneaded

so maybe it's better to use my diet!

sorry

better!

however this remains my favorite! this is really good!

can you see the interior?

good guys!

ok table ninja I ate half of it I must say that casserole destroy you

they destroy you! so i think i'll take a little break because i need boys

to get up and walk because I am full! anyway, 13:31 guys

and end first time!

but look at my table ninja here ...

thanks for the help you know! I thought that while I was I had a nice walk outside

you had something to eat! nothing I understand I have to arrange to finish these pop tarts!

let's go destroy them! it's 2:03 pm

and let's start the second half!

ninja start to hate chocolate! I start to hate chocolate!

and a round is gone!

3 more!

I went to drink coffee that did not exist!

second round gone guys!

2 more rounds!

I'm starting to be full but not tired of chocolate!

damn the pop tarts! Fortunately I will not see them again!

3 round gone guys! I almost finished the coke!

I'm going to get some water, water !!

is making a thirst absurd is stuff and drink milk I can not do it right!

anyway last round!

they are 4!

3 more guys!

2

the last guys!

really this challenge!

not the 20,000 calories we say but this meal!

too much sugar!

table ninja

the last piece of pop tart!

14:41 table ninja I wanted to thank you for the help you gave me!

very very kind! I think now I'll go for a long walk

walk in such a way as to increase appetite! so table ninja see you later

Oh I almost forgot ....

F ... Y .. pop tarts !!!

come back from my walk! was not it just a walk you see? I did 1 hour of walking

and it was a scorching sun and then I thought I go home and almost almost 1 hour of spinning!

since I jumped this morning I did my homework!

and as you can see guys I'm destroyed exuded are also stragonfio

I really feel really full I have to tell you the truth those pop tarts had taken away my appetite

but now with this one beautiful sweat came back to me sincerely I returned

anyway I wanted to show you mine Fitbit application where I sign all my exercises

my race my spinning my exercise at the gym because

you have asked me so many and many so then I answer you also to this question

obviously you can not download the application if you do not have a fitbit then

you will also have to buy a fitbit, my own a fitbit ionic

obviously he has the cardio frequency meter so I measure my pulse all day

cardiac and can you tell me with precision I say more or less obviously the calories that

consumption during the day! good table ninja I would say that it is dinner times because they are already there

6.30 and I will spend 30 minutes preparing this dinner for myself

to be honest I've been wanting for a long time and I'm really excited to have it

so I'll show you only a preview, spaghetti and seafood with tomato sauce! you have already understood what it is!

so shower for me and we table ninja see you later

still these pop tarts!

olè table ninja!

obviously table ninja could not miss a nice spaghetti with the rock!

this is 500 grams of pasta with 450 grams of seafood

here is the box obviously guys I could not be here to create it

I took it frozen is not out of malice but it takes time! and I do not have any time!

obviously the recommended dose was 300 grams of pasta

even 250 we have twice as much but ..

what do you think? jealous?

great dish for me guys today!

even these!

this time I have my water because my stomach could explode

it is 19:07 hours always of Thursday, June 21st and guys we're going to destroy

this little mail

here she is

not bad! maybe a little dry because obviously it took less pasta but

casserole I used too much pasta .. and ok

we have a muscle

they say musle in English, mussel in Italian

really tasty! even if it was frozen sincerely! good!

ah you remember the advertising '' good sauce this sauce, it's a ready sauce ''

after this I leave!

what shit! too many carbohydrates today, the brain does not work!

I'm sweating more now guys that half an hour ago on the exercise bike!

how hot!

small shrimp

good this too!

obviously

I do not think there are calories in these then I leave them aside no?

half went guys

it's not so much ..

it's not so much guys ..

come on down!

just let me take a little breath

I have a thirst beast!

but there is not much space in my stomach

guys is tough!

guys start being really hard!

I do not have much but

but for me it is so much now!

also because below it is a terrible heat!

I'm having a sauna!

boys..

I'm stuffed...

I had never pushed myself so far beyond I think

leave me a minute I can! I just have to find some space in my stomach

guys the last chuffed goes away!

it's 19:48 table ninja

and now I think I'll take a good break because

this really really destroyed me!

I have a stomach that is about to explode!

table ninja see you later to try

destroy this 20,000 calorie challenge!

see you guys later!

ninja only this last meal separates us to destroy this challenge are

really really tried to be honest, guys I did not think a 20,000 calorie challenge

it was so difficult to deal with! anyway, it's 22:08 guys

then table ninja let me introduce you to this last meal I took these

mini croissants from the trunks, it was a long time since I had them and honestly they are

thoughtful to eat them because they go down simple!

the drips I was really happy to have them in this cheat day

now a little less ad be honest because they are so dry and

It will be a bit difficult to throw them down because I feel quite dehydrated

guys sugar stevia because in short, we save some calories no?

I have a nice tea, I have my plate for the drops

boys

I'm so many!

sugar

good!

and let's start with these extra trusty super trunks filled with soft puff pastry cream mini croissants

really good! these, these in my opinion go even simple

simple calories!

next extra gluttonous super stuffed with soft puff pastry mini apricot croissants!

these are good too!

chocolate boys

mini chocolate croissant

I hate chocolate!

here we are guys, chocolate

mini croissants gone! now drips!

only these distance me from completing this challenge!

although I honestly looked in my MyFitnessPal and just eat it

only 250 grams to reach 20,000 calories therefore are 500 grams these

half, half can be enough! if I can eat half of it! Drips ..

dripping ... maybe they were dripping ..

to be honest they are also good! I missed them!

let's say that tea is helping me so much!

god bless the tea guys!

Sorry guys, but I need to make room!

this .. not needed!

cazzarola I finished the tea

guys I think they are less than half then

I'm going to get the scale we weigh it and let's see if we have completed this challenge!

weight scale! the proof of the truth! ok guys let's weigh the remaining ones ..

256

hence for the law of numbers 248

so guys remain these 3 drops

these 3 guys drips!

so table ninja 3 drips

we'll keep these for tomorrow's breakfast ... even no thanks!

3 drops to take home this 20,000 calorie challenge!

water!

1!

2!

this is the last bite of this 20,000 calories

challenge

it was really really hard, I have a stomach that

R Whittaker on Yoel Romero's 'superhuman' traits: I'm leaving that down to nothing more than magic - Duration: 5:57.

[ ♪ Intro ]

These days, it seems like we're closer than ever to transporting humans around the solar system.

But getting people into space is one thing; keeping them alive is a whole different ball game.

It's the difference between exciting new exploration and just a really expensive way to die.

Among a bunch of other things, one of the most important elements to sustaining life

beyond Earth is making sure we're really well fed.

So far, a lot of thinking has gone into ways to grow food in places like the Moon or Mars,

but those are just single locations in the vast solar system.

What we really need is a cosmic food court capable of feeding us wherever we go.

And for that, we might want to look to the asteroid belt!

All this concern about growing food is necessary because of our pesky friend gravity.

It takes a ton of energy to escape the Earth's gravitational pull, and even with reusable

rockets, getting to space can be pretty pricey.

Take SpaceX's new Falcon Heavy rocket, for instance.

It's among the most efficient rockets today, but pack it full of food for Mars and you'd

be paying more than $5,000 per kilogram.

For a one-off trip, maybe that makes sense, but to settle humans on Mars it would cost

$5,000 per kilogram per person, for the rest of their lives.

That's just not sustainable.

Conveniently, though, it turns out we've solved this problem before, like a lot, — and

with something really simple: seeds.

One obvious example is when Europeans crossed the Atlantic to settle in North America, they

didn't bring a lifetime's worth of food with them.

Instead, they brought the means to create more food once they got there.

They farmed.

In that example, North America already had people who were farming, but it's still

a good tactic for getting food to space!

Once we figure a few things out, this could work for a place like Mars, where settlers

could grow food right on the surface.

But if we sent people to Jupiter's moon Europa or Saturn's moon Titan, things would

get more complicated.

Those trips would last for years, and because of their surface conditions, there'd be

nowhere to farm right when we got there.

That's where asteroids come in.

Since they mostly orbit between Mars and Jupiter, they could be a convenient gateway to the

outer solar system.

They're also a lot smaller than even the Moon, meaning they have dramatically less

gravity to escape, which would greatly reduce the food's cost to ship.

Ceres, which is often considered the largest asteroid, has about 3% of Earth's surface

gravity, and most others have thousands of times less than that.

Most importantly, though, some kinds of asteroids may already contain many of the most important

nutrients for life.

They're called carbonaceous asteroids, or sometimes C-types.

C-types are probably the most common kind of asteroid, but they're remarkably difficult

to study because of their appearance.

They reflect just a tiny percentage of the Sun's light, and probably look more like

coal than whatever you're picturing right now.

I say probably because we haven't really been able to study carbonaceous asteroids

in great detail.

Instead, most of what we think we know about them comes from meteorites called carbonaceous

chondrites, which are likely chips of C-type asteroids.

Based on the name, you might think they're mostly made of carbon.

But they only contain a small percentage of carbon at best, along with nitrogen, potassium,

and phosphorus.

Sounds like fertilizer, doesn't it?

Amazingly, deep inside these meteorites, we've also found evidence of some of the same amino

acids that are inside our bodies, as well as other organic compounds.

To top it all off, some carbonaceous chondrites contain up to 20% of their weight in water.

Some of that was surely absorbed here on Earth, but many meteorites contain evidence suggesting

they formed in the presence of liquid water, too.

These useful elements were even enough for one chemist to grow plants in crushed up meteorites!

But hold your space tractors, because we're not ready to start farming just yet.

Ironically, the main obstacle to growing plants on an asteroid might be one of its main benefits: microgravity.

Space station and Space Shuttle experiments going back decades have tried to grow plants

in zero-g with only limited success.

Even though the plants often grow well, the seeds they produce rarely create a healthy

second generation.

Which is obviously key, if you're looking to set up a long-term farming operation.

But some recent experiments are finding more success, so it's not all bad news.

And, of course, we'd still need to provide the right atmosphere, enough sunlight, and

protection from cosmic radiation, so this is an idea for the long haul.

But if we can get it right, the dividend could be awesome, in the true sense of the word.

One estimate suggests that the total population of C-type asteroids could sustain a billion

humans for the rest of the Sun's lifetime -- no matter where they are.

Fortunately, we're also about to reach an important milestone in all of this.

This summer, Japan's Hayabusa2 spacecraft will reach the asteroid Ryugu, marking the

first time we can properly study a C-type asteroid up close.

What's more, Hayabusa2 will also scoop up a piece of its surface and return the sample

to Earth by late 2020.

So, who knows?

Maybe that could start the clock towards a future fed by asteroids.

Thanks to Blue Apron for sponsoring this video.

And for giving me the confidence to cook pork chops for the first time!

I did not grow up in a cooking house, so even though I like to try new foods, I don't

know how to bring them into being in my kitchen.

And it's a problem because my boyfriend is a really good cook and he'll ask me to

help him season things and I just panic and put a ton of cumin in EVERYTHING.

But the other night I made pork chops with quick pickled cabbage and potato salad with

buttermilk dressing.

Blue Apron recipes are super straightforward and explain everything, so you're learning

to cook while making a really good meal.

And, if you get nervous in the kitchen, like I do, it's really comforting to have those

I didn't overthink, or over season, anything, and it turned out delicious.

A Creepy Scary Doll Haunted Our Cabin - Duration: 3:27.

We've been friends for about three years and we decided to go to her cabin last summer.

So it was a date where it was kind of groggy outside it was rainy.

My grandma decided to come in and she said, "Hey guys look what I got."

She had this really old doll which was native and it just gave the creepy like

feeling off of us. We asked her where she got it and she had gone to this weird

kind of garage sale type thing and she bought it off of someone for 60 cents

and the person said that they didn't want it anymore.

She put the doll in bed and tucked it in and give it a kiss and walked away.

We then said that it looked really creepy and I guess might have pissed the doll

off because when her parents and her grandparents went out for bingo the

Wi-Fi went out instantly. We decided to talk about funny things.

I told the weirdest thing happened where we heard a little voice behind us. No, no!

We heard a baby crying first yeah a baby behind the doors and I was like, "Are there any

babies like living around here?" She said, "No!" Then later on we heard scratching

from inside the room like tiny hands like as if it was like maybe a cat

scratching at a door a little freaked out and then we decided to leave the

house and so we went on our bikes and it got to the point where it was really

really cold and we couldn't handle the cold so we had to go back.

Came back, opened the door and we went into the bedroom. She had put, um, a new bra that

she got in a plastic bag on the middle of the bed. When we got back it wasn't there.

We looked around couldn't find it. I looked under the bed, the bra was out of

the bag and under the middle of the bed and then from behind us we hear this low

demonic like, "Yeah." We both looked back and we're like, "Did you hear that?"

We opened the door and we went into the bedroom. The blanket was underneath its

eyes and we had put it completely over. So, it got to point we were like really

freaked out. So she went up to this tree and it was a fake tree

and she said, "I hope nothing happens to this tree I really love this tree."

So my parents ended up coming back and we couldn't sleep that night.

We were so scared and so the next day we woke up, the leaves are all over the

floor and they were scattered which kind of freaked us out. That was the time that

we realized that we pissed that doll off and my grandma loves that doll

and she talks to the doll and to the point where she brushes his hair

and to the point where we went in there my grandma came in and she got really

mad at us and she closed the door on us and told us to never go in there again.

Pawn Stars Pay Tribute To Richard 'The Old Man' Harrison - Duration: 3:52.

Best known to Pawn Stars fans as "The Old Man," Richard Harrison passed away on Monday,

June 25th at the age of 77 after a battle with Parkinson's disease.

Harrison founded and operated the Las Vegas-based World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, which

he opened in 1989.

The Harrison family business later became the focal point of the hit History Channel

reality show which debuted in July 2009 and follows the day-to-day happenings of the Harrison

family and their team of experts.

Following his passing, the Pawn Stars team paid tribute to Harrison, remembering the

man he was and the work ethic he had.

Harrison's son, Rick Harrison, for example, shared two separate tributes to his father

on Instagram.

The first is a snap of the Old Man wearing dark sunglasses and a fedora, with the touching

caption that read in part:

"He was my hero and I was fortunate to get a very cool 'Old Man' as my dad.

That I got to share him with so many others and they got to see what a great family man

he was is something I am grateful to have experienced with him.

He lived a very full life [...] touched the lives of people all over, teaching them the

value of loving your family, hard work, and humor."

Rick later posted a photo of his father from his days in the U.S. Navy with the caption:

"Today I lost a friend, a father, a teacher, and so much more.

The Old Man lost his long battle with Parkinson's this morning.

Love you Dad.

See you on the other side."

Similarly, Corey Harrison, also known as "Big Hoss" to fans and family alike, remembered

his grandfather as more than just a family member.

Harrison was more like a best friend to Corey, who began helping out at the Gold & Silver

Pawn Shop when he was just 9 years old, later becoming the store's full-time manager.

In his own Instagram tribute, he shared a younger Harrison wearing a suit and striped

tie, writing:

"I was lucky enough to spend 15 years of my life working with the Old Man.

He wasn't just a grandfather, he was truly a best friend as well.

I'm truly blessed to have had him as a mentor.

He will be missed everyday."

Corey's childhood friend and fellow shop worker Austin "Chumlee" Russell also remembered Harrison

as a kind, humorous man who offered honesty and tough love when it mattered most.

He wrote on Twitter:

"It's hard to believe he is gone.

He was such a big part of my life and treated me like family.

I will miss him greatly and carry the lessons he taught me throughout my life.

You could always count on him to straighten you out or make you laugh and both of those

things I need."

Meanwhile, Steve Grad, one of the many experts featured on Pawn Stars, honored the Old Man

on social media as well, writing on Facebook:

"I'm very thankful that I got to spend some extra time with him last month while doing

some work at the shop.

It was great to see him tour the shop floor making sure it was set up for the day.

May you Rest In Peace fine sir."

Soon after the news of Harrison's passing was made public, the History Channel shared

a heartfelt tweet remembering their quirky screen star by writing:

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Richard 'The Old Man' Harrison, a beloved

member of the HISTORY and @pawnstars family.

He will be greatly missed for his wisdom and candor.

Our thoughts are with the Harrison family during this difficult time."

The Gold & Silver Pawn Shop Facebook page also honored Harrison with a tribute that

read, in part:

"He will be remembered as the best father, grandfather, and great-grandfather you could

have by his family and by fans as the sometimes grumpy (always loving, however), often wisecracking,

and voice of absolute reason on the History television show Pawn Stars."

One thing's for sure.

The Old Man won't soon be forgotten.

We are so thrilled, that you guys are out here,

both participating,

bringing your custom creations out to show.

As well as, comin' out to see what everybody has to show.

(upbeat county music)

The things that seem like they're bubbling up the most,

the Nash got a lot love.

But the Nash is also very picture perfect.

The other one, and I know there's debate on it,

but I'd say it feel like the Rat Wrecker,

if you count by vote, and try to tally it up,

is the one that pops most.

'31 rat rod with the spoke wheels.

I think that has the same identity issues that this one does

of the dualy rat rod that we won.

- My two would still be tow truck, and this chevy pickup.

- The tow, actually has some more distinct characteristics.

And I'm thinking out loud, trying to imagine it.

Everything lined up at SEMA. What's gonna tell the story?

Say, okay, this is Hot Wheels.

It's not just about a car show, it's Hot Wheels.

- Okay. - Alright, let's do it guys.

- Alright, let's go.

- I know you guys are waitin',

to hear who the final winner is.

And Hot wheels is a brand built on challenge,

and we're lookin' for challengers.

So Legend Stewart is all about finding somebody who

expresses that challenge through

the build that they actually put together themselves.

Blood, sweat, and tears.

And so with that, after a ton of deliberation,

we the judges, are thrilled to announce,

that Vin Erwin, and his Rat Wrecker,

which just beyond the Hot Wheels logo, has won.

When that thing drove in,

you knew it was a Hot Wheels toy right way.

- To be famous for an ugly truck, my goodness.

Is what my dreams are made of buddy.

You always tease about it, I'm glad to be here.

That's all I'm gonna give you.

(bass rock music)

(engine roaring)

(upbeat piano music)

My name is Vin Erwin.

We're at Bentonville, Arkansas.

I was putting on a metal roof for friend, lifetime friend,

and I would take money, so I took the truck.

It was a two ton hay truck.

It's a 256 Merc.

I think it's like 139 horsepower.

I think they called it the power king,

'cause this is the first overhead valve

motor that Ford put out.

So the truck is the original motor,

the original transmission,

the original front end, the original rear end.

So that's where it started from.

And I just started cuttin' it up and choppin' it up,

and it's the original two ton truck.

I just made it look different.

Well, I built this at a buddy's shop.

At a tire shop, he owns his tire shop

And he's the reason why this truck got built.

So this truck was built in the public eye.

I mean people was comin' into the shop,

to see what we'd done next, everyday.

So, you know, it's just, funner that way I think.

You know, 'cause my whole towns is used this truck,

'cause I drive it all the time.

I tease my grandkids you know.

It's pretty bad when your grandpa's got

the coolest truck in town, and...

(laughs)

And you have to wave at him to boot.

He kinda go, okay, yeah, that's him.

You know when I as a kid, I'd cut models up,

and glue them together to make stuff like this truck.

Just the crazy lookin' draggster,

and stuff that you run on your tracks,

that you thought was real neat that you'd never get to see.

That's what Hot Wheels is all about.

No I didn't think I was gonna win today.

I'd just come for the car show.

You build it, and you appreciate it,

then you get a Hot Wheel car made out of it.

It immortalizes your truck.

It's around forever.

It be the coolest thing a builder can do,

is have a Hot Wheel car made out of your build.

Pretty overwhelmed really.

It's a big honor.

Overcoming the Reluctant Storyteller - Duration: 5:28.

A few years ago our team was approached by a company that had a desire to tell their

story The company had everything we want when working with a client - a passion for the

work they do, a genuine commitment to creating good products//services and, they had an added

challenge we love -- competing in a highly saturated market.

I say we love this challenge because when there's a lot of competition, and everyone

is kind of saying the same thing (as it goes with saturation) it gives US the opportunity

to really show the difference telling a story can make to elevate a brand above the "proverbial

noise."

SO.

We created a proposal, they accepted, agreements were signed and we got to work.

We started with the Founder & CEO looking for the Founding Story -- the story behind

the current "About Us" website copy… and right from the start, there was a problem.

The Founder refused to share his story.

He said he didn't want it to be about him, that he wanted it to be about the company

and that they create better products than anyone else….

Now…

It's one thing to not want to be in the video (which was fine, there's ways around that),

and I understand a leader's desire to be humble…

I respect that.

But using that as rationale to NOT TELL your company's story….

Is wrong.

And dangerous.

In today's market, consumers don't want to do business with businesses - they want to

(and prefer to) do business with humans.

With platforms like Facebook & Instagram… it's now normal to see behind the brick-and-mortar

curtains of the people and brands we admire.

Not only is it normal, it's expected.

And while this isn't a video about setting up a business Instagram account - it IS important

you understand - this HUMAN connection, is what people WANT.

One of the EASIEST ways to create that point of connection is to tell your story.

In which case, refusing to do so in the name of HUMILITY is actually the most arrogant

stance to take… that you're ABOVE what the market actually wants.

Now.

I don't think that's actually what's going on here….. your hesitance to tell your story

is more likely attributed to, what our team has identified as, one of the following 3

hang ups.

The first is you really do think a company figurehead talking about starting a company

looks dated and self-glorifying - and yes - if you did it the old way, it would.

However, the way WE approach this (and you should too), is by focusing on the real STORY.

For example, We worked to create a video with a home builder who told the story of building

his best fort in his backyard as a kid (I'll include the link to the video in the text

below)… it was endearing and, with just a few seconds of storytelling, he connected

as a HUMAN with those who watched the video AND simultaneously differentiated himself

from the competition.

Focus on telling a STORY and you won't have to worry about the stuffy figurehead reciting

jargon.

The second misconception is that there isn't really a story there - you started a business,

who cares.

In this case, you are your story's worst enemy - because our stories don't actually sound

like stories to us… they just sound like life.

It often takes an outside source to see the story that's within you.

Sit down with your marketing team or agency partners and tell them you want to tell them

about the real story.

If they're any good… they will be salivating to hear it and can turn it into marketing

gold for you.

The 3rd misconception is that it HAS to be a Founding story (which is what we've been

talking about here).I get it… sometimes it's more complicated --- Maybe the business

was acquired.

Maybe the CEO isn't the Founder.

Whatever the issue - don't get hung up there - all you really need is ANY (true!)

STORY that humanizes why you're here and doing business.

To wrap up, I get a lot of messages from CMOs, VPs of Marketing, or content teams at agencies

who are frustrated - they know there is a great story in there…. and, because for

whatever reason the higher-ups refuse to tell it, they are leaving messaging opportunities,

brand loyalty and distinction, and REVENUE on the table…

If you are the CEO watching this and your team HAS requested this of you - to tell your

story - please give them a chance!

If you are the CEO and your team HASN'T yet thought to tell the story… have them watch

this video to get them started (and of course, my team is happy to come in as a storytelling

partner - I'll include a link on how that can happen).

Lastly, if you are the Marketing person watching this who has been TRYING to get the story

told,….

Take the info I shared with you here and use it to help frame the discussion with the reluctant

teller - and know that our team is here if you need help.

Oh!! as for that contract several years ago… we mutually decided it was best to terminate

it.

I learned an important lesson from that experience - and now, as part of our intake process we

ask the question of our clients up front: Our specialty at the Steller Collective is

humanizing companies through their engaging and personal stories.

Are you comfortable getting personal with your stories?

My hope is, your answer from now on… will be yes!

How To Put Together an Emergency Kit for Your Dog | Rover.com - Duration: 2:04.

Hi everyone, I'm amber from Rover.com and today we'll be going over what

supplies to pack for your dog in the event of an emergency.

Just like we pack emergency supply kits for ourselves,

it's a great idea to have one for your dog. Now let's get started!

The basic essentials that should be in every kit are: a spare collar or harness and leash,

it's important that the collar has an up-to-date ID tag. Pack at least one week's supply of food and water and

collapsible bowls or any spare bowls you have at home. These yummy bowls from

Sleepypod are really great because they stack and seal and you can store food

and water in the same container. Pack a folding crate or carrier and a bed or

blanket or both if you have the space. A bone or chew toy to relieve stress to

keep your dog occupied is really important

we love Kongs and suggest packing treats or peanut butter to be used inside.

Sweet potato chews here are also a really big hit in my house.

Pet first-aid kits are really important and you can purchase a pre-made kit or assemble one on your own.

We also packed a small first aid guide in addition to the kit.

It's also a good idea to pack spare medication and

calming items that you know your dog responds to.

Pack a Thunder shirt if your dog tends to be anxious or scared in new situations and also a rescue remedy or

dog appeasing pheromone spray can really go a long way.

A long-lead leash allows your dog to explore but still be on leash,

and lastly, a roll of poop bags or two depending on the size of your dog.

A few other good-to-haves are an emergency leash or collar for other dogs you may encounter.

they won't take up much space and can be great to have on hand.

Bring a copy of health records and vaccinations with your vet's contact information a

and extra flea and tick treatment, of your choice, in the event that you're stranded in the wilderness or with several other dogs.

We like to store our items in a plastic container to keep everything nice and organized,

but you can use any bag or box that you may have.

Thanks for watching! For more information on emergency preparedness head on over to Rover's Daily Treat.

We'll see you next time!

Arteza Haul and Giveaway Sneak Peek | Whitney Sews - Duration: 7:06.

hi everyone I'm Whitney and I have a fun haul to share with you all today and it

is items that I was sent from Arteza and I'm really excited to show them to

you because there is a sneak peek of some items that are coming up in my

100,000 subscriber giveaway so if you haven't seen already I am getting close

to a hundred thousand subscribers which is very very exciting and I'm going to

be hosting a big big giveaway it is the largest giveaway by far that I've ever

done on my channel and I'm very excited about it and Arteza who is a company

that I've worked with in the past they were so kind to send a few things over

for the giveaway and so I wanted to give you a little sneak peek of these things

today and just a heads up the giveaway won't be starting until we reach 100,000

subscribers here on Whitney sews and I will have a separate video all about the

giveaway showing every single item that's going to be included but the

sooner we get to 100,000 subscribers is the sooner we will be able to have the

giveaway so make sure that you are sharing my videos sharing my channel if

you enjoy anything you see here on my channel make sure to share it with your

friends so that we can get the word out and grow our YouTube family so anyway

let me show you a couple of the things that are going to be in the giveaway

first up is this really awesome 4-pack of rulers and this comes with a four and

a half inch a six inch a nine and a half and a twelve and a half inch rollers so

I love having square rulers around they are so awesome for trimming down like

half square triangle units or your entire quilt block or even if you're

just working on like non quilting kind of projects that's just so easy to have

several different rulers around so that you can use them to trim up your pieces

and if you have like two different rulers you can use them to measure

really really accurately and it's just super awesome so this was so nice of

them to send over they also sent 48 of the

on slip adhesive rings that you can put on the backside of your ruler so that

they don't slip around while you're trying to cut with them using your

rotary cutter they also send over a six by twelve inch rectangle roller and this

is a really nice size I like to have something that is like a 12 inch ruler

size and then a 24 inch long ruler size so they're just really good sizes to

have for projects that you work on so all of these items will be included in

my 100,000 subscriber giveaway and that is not even a dent and what is going to

be in the giveaway so I am I am so excited about it so let me get onto

showing you some of the other things that they said over just they have a new

product line that came out and so they just sent me some few things for free

they are not paying me to talk about these items they just were kind enough

to send them over so I wanted to show them off to you all and if you want more

info on anything that I show in this video there will be some links down

below affiliate links for their website and if you purchase anything from the

affiliate link it does help support this channel and creating more content for

you all but like I said they are not paying me to talk about them but the

first thing that they sent is 24 fabric markers and these are really cool they

come in all these beautiful colors and they have a fine tip and a chisel tip

and I thought these would be really fun you can use them on jeans t-shirts

tennis shoes backpacks jackets sweatshirts and more so I know things

would be really fun to do like custom t-shirts for like Father's Day or

Mother's Day or the kids birthday or the last day of school or something like

that where you can let your kids draw on a shirt for like their dad for Father's

Day or something like that and then you have a fun unique shirt to wear that

your kids made for you or like have all the kids in the class

sign a shirt for the teacher or something like that I just thought that

would be a really fun project I also it's been a lifelong goal okay

not lifelong but a really time goal of mine to recreate this is

gonna be silly the jeans from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants so if you've ever

read the books or watch the movies after each summer the four girls who sinned

who share this pair of jeans like write things on them about what happened that

summer and like they have some embroidery on them and stuff so I always

thought it would be a lot of fun to like recreate that pair of jeans and these

would be perfect to do that with that is so silly but I love I love those books

and movies so I'm really excited to try these out on some different projects I

think they could be used like I said for kids projects my kids are really aren't

old enough for it they're two and three but they could also be cool for other

kinds of projects too that you just want to add a little bit of artwork to and

then they sent me over a couple of other projects that I thought would be a lot

of fun for my kids the first one is the artis a kid's face paint this is a

really cute face paint set and it comes with a few stencils it comes with

glitter all that stuff so I thought this would be really fun for Peyton my three

year old to kind of play around with obviously I would have to help her but

she has a cousin of who's like nine and I thought they could really have a lot

of fun using this kit you know it's summertime so why not let the kiddos

have fun and the last thing they sent over is some hair chalk pins I've seen

people do hair chalk with like chalk pastels

but I've never seen like a pen version of it so I thought this would be really

fun to Peyton has kind of like light brown hair kind of blondish brownish

hair and so I think these would be really a lot of fun for her she's into

mermaids and different things like that so I thought we could kind of give her

some mermaid hair and it's nice and temporary so it says it has unique

colors that are blendable and they're easy on and easy off you can apply it to

dry or wet hair you just rub it on and downward motion like dry for about five

minutes and you're ready to go and then you just simply wash your hair

and it comes out so I thought that was super fun and it says they just three

and up Payton's three so I thought that's me a lot of fun to play with so

that is everything that Arteza sent over like I said earlier if you want to

see more information on any of these items there are direct links for them

down below in the description box and if you want to see some of the other videos

that I've done with Arteza so I have a specific tutorial that they sponsored as

well as a couple of hauls so if you want to see those you can find them linked

right over here to the side and until next time happy sewing

Mymee Founder Mette on Healing Her Autoimmune Disease | WellBe Inspiration, Episode #15 - Duration: 13:52.

Hi, my name is Mette.

I'm the founder of Mymee.

It's a digital therapeutics company

where we identify triggers in order to reverse disease symptoms for autoimmune patients.

The company started out with me as the N of 1.

I was the one who had the problematic journey

that ended me up in this place of patient.

I was 14 when I got my first autoimmune condition,

psoriasis.

I noticed like three dots on my neck

and then the next day, I just had it all over.

The shock in and of itself was pretty disturbing to a young girl.

We immediately got [a] famous acupuncturist in Denmark

to give me whatever supplementation and they brought me to

a different climate and it pretty much got reversed relatively fast.

But for me, my teenage years was more around

not being able to do what others were able to do but without knowing why.

In Denmark, teenagers drink

and I was unable to do so.

I literally had my parents begging me

not to because if I had a drink on Saturday night,

I would be out of school at least Tuesday, but most likely Tuesday/Wednesday.

Now I know it's a mutation of my liver but at the time, I had no idea.

I remember when I was a teenager actually,

probably 18, 19,

and I started gaining weight rapidly.

The [modeling] agency I was working for,

when you have a set card,

there's no weight gain in the parameters of what's OK

and they assigned me a boxing trainer and a nutritionist.

The nutritionist had me on an 1,800-calorie diet

That then became 1,500, 1,200.

I remember when she fired me for cheating

because nobody, in her opinion, could be gaining weight at 1,200-calorie diet.

My question wasn't whether she was right.

My only thing wasÑ there's something wrong with me.

Around the age of 20,

I started feeling very different.

I started going to the doctors.

I started basically trying to figure out why was I not feeling right.

Blood work was always fine.

Then at 23,

after having exhausted the Danish healthcare system,

I moved to L.A.

Moving to L.A. was quite detrimental to my health in some ways,

and in other ways, kind of perfect.

Temperature-wise and weather-wise, [it]

made me not have to worry about psoriasis or any of those things,

but on the flip side, I started losing my eyesight.

I'd be going into the kitchen to fetch something

and I could see the kitchen clearly,

but as I would get close to the kitchen table, it all would grey out.

I couldn't see what was there.

The first time it happened, I remember thinking,

"I'm having a brain seizure or something. This is not right."

They took one look at me and my eyes were out, my throat was big and they were like,

"We know exactly what this is." They medicated me and I was relieved.

Then the next morning they came back with 7 residents and like,

"Your blood work came back perfect and this is an interesting case."

But once it's happened a few times, it's not so interesting anymore,

for them or for me.

I would get these hot cramps

and I would faint.

It got to the point where you're going upstairs and you faint and you fall and you hurt yourself

and you manage. You find ways around it and I think that's one of the things

that I think about with chronically ill people, is that

we kind of come across as OK because we find ways around it.

I remember after I moved back to Denmark in 2003

and got a job in a fashion company

and we had this huge staircase going up to the 1st floor.

I couldn't walk to the 1st floor without panting like a 75-year-old man.

You figure out a wayÑ about a third up,

you introduce them to the shoe department and then another third up,

you introduce them to something else

so that you actually can make it up the staircase with the clients.

Those years I would have literally killed for sugar or carbs around 4 o'clock.

My blood sugar was so unstable. It was like all sorts of things were kind of off.

I ended up seeing a psychiatrist because I was hoping I was a hypochondriac

You're just looking for any kind of explanation.

And then when I became a "cardiac patient,"

I started taking blood thinners, cholesterol lowers, but not all at once.

It started out blood thinners and then the next thing,

and it was like when you woke up in the morning,

you didn't know what you would be waking up to.

That was the worst part. It was the not having any control.

I'm a little bit OCD on some levels.

I actually flew to see this guy who was a specialist in

stomach-related issues I guess. I don't even know if I knew any closer than that.

I got there and I had to sign a release form that he was a veterinarian.

I remember calling my mom and I'm like, "He's a vet."

Mom was like, "Get out of there."

Much to my own surprise, he was actually the first one to

at least figure out why I wasn't feeling great,

but more so than anything, he looked at all the paperwork.

You fill out 10 pages of like, "How do you feel?"

and he took one look at it. He sat me down and he said,

"You're really not feeling well."

To my memory, that was the first time anyone acknowledged

that I didn't feel well and I just started crying.

He made me drink sugar water, so like fasting blood sugar,

sugar water and had me lie down on a bed for, I don't know how long.

And then he asked me to sit up slowly and then get up standing slowly.

My resting pulse was 64

and my pulse once I had gotten from lying to standing

was 141.

He was basically like, "If I ran a marathon,

my pulse would go to where your pulse is from just getting up from lying to standing."

He was like, "If you were anywhere close to where you lived,

I would literally have gotten you to the hospital."

It ended up being that it was insulin resistance.

I could now actually go and get an endocrinologist and get all the different specialists.

I remember I went to this specialist

on Park Avenue.

It was fascinating because it was like he knew me better than I knew me.

He was like, "You don't eat fruit." I was like, "No."

He's like, "It doesn't do anything for you."

But it was in such detail

because of course he'd seen thousands of me.

I only had me to go by and none of what I had been taught

applied to my own scenarios.

My latter half of my 20s pretty much was collecting disease labels and drugs like candy.

I got psoriatic arthritis. With that came Humira.

I actually had a period where I didn't go to the doctors

because I felt like if I go, I'll get another drug,

I'll get another diagnosis.

It just kind of felt never-ending.

I was now going into my 30s a chronic patient with 6 autoimmune conditions,

Sjšgren's, metabolic X, basically like the slew of things that people get.

I think the one thing that we don't think about is when the...

if you think of the body as different processes,

once those processes are off,

they're going to have implications and everything.

For me, what that ended up being was some sort of control,

I kept all of my doctors.

I always asked the questions, "Is there anything I can do?

Should I change my diet? Should I beÉ?"

I always got the answer, "No." I remember my endocrinologist telling me that

I was genetically in a position where even if I did all the things

that I would read about in the magazines,

it would come back like a boomerang.

He told me these stories about women who

had thought that they could eat their way out of insulin resistance

but then a year later, he would see them and now they would be full-blown diabetics.

For me, that was like, OK, when he told me, "This is your friend for life,"

I was like, "This is my friend."

I didn't actually question much and in hindsight,

I'm kind of puzzled that I didn't question it more.

But I think I was just happy that there was answers.

About 10 years after being diagnosed,

mid-30s now and I get a call that my doctor's team have great news.

It's super charged and go in and then upon arriving at the hospital,

[I] get told that...

it's still silly, that I wasn't going to die in the immediate future.

There was several "Aha!" moments in that.

First, it had never actually dawned on me

how dire my situation was until that moment.

Secondly, I was naively optimistic so I actually at first asked,

"OK, that's great. What's the good news?"

At which point it got exceedingly awkward because this was the great news.

At the time actually the one thing that came to my head was,

"I'm a CEO for a company,

if I went to my board of advisers

and told them we're not going to go bankrupt in the immediate future,

I don't have a job."

I post the question, "What are we going to do about my process?"

to which the answer was, "We're happy with your numbers."

He could've said 20 things that would have me come back

but numbers...

I'm an economist by training. I am artistic with numbers.

It's kind of where I feel safe.

By him saying, "Oh, we're happy with this."

I kind of saw 8 years of EKG data in my head and was like,

"This is notÑ he doesn't know what he's doing,"

but more so, "He can't help me."

I should be so thankful for this doctor because at that moment,

yes I was disempowered as a patient,

but I was empowered as a human being in a sense that

if I wasn't going to do something, I was going to die.

From that moment on it was very much like

writing down things in a journal and transcribing them into an Excel spreadsheet

because that's where us economists feel like we're at home,

but the good thing about tracking things is that you start paying attention.

I started seeing patterns of things that shouldn't beÑ

I would go out to see my uncle in Phoenix

and he's a roper and they basically wake up and have 3 eggs and a steak.

I would be on his diet for 3 days while we were in the back country

and I would come home and my numbers looked good.

If I looked up what the American Heart Association said I should be eating,

that was not the diet that I should be eating.

I basically started A/B testing

my system and I think from that, I got enough insight that 5 months in,

all of a sudden I could drop my blood thinners, my cholesterol lowers and

I was like, "Wow." Every time I got a new autoimmune condition,

at least the label,

I would be told that it was because of my cardiac issues

or it was because of something else

and as I was unravelling this, I was like,

"I should probably be able to get rid of all of it."

It took me 16 months to normalize my blood work, get off my drugs.

I'm 7 years drug and symptom-free today. [knocks on wood]

All of a sudden,

my doctor's team was like, "Oh, maybe you didn't have those diseases in the first place.

Sometimes the body can be interesting." And I was like,

"Fine, take me off my EMR or whatever you call it."

They were like, "Well, it's not that easy.

It's either/or," especially because at the time, there was a lot of talk about insurance

and how much they were going to have access to

and I was literally afraid that I was never going to be able to be insured here.

Then they started pulling out my blood work and my stats and they're like,

"No, that's not possible."

I was like, "So either I have these diseases and I reversed them

or I didn't have them."

But essentially, one of the things that baffled me when I came out "on the other side," so to speak,

was that I had friends, not distant friends,

relatively close friends that would say to me,

"Oh, I didn't even know you were sick.

Were you really sick?"

It was just a big "Aha!" moment for me to realize that people

had not even really understood my situation.

I think it's a very common thing. You don't want to be defined by it

and you almost don't even want to acknowledge that it's a part of you

so you just find ways of dealing with it

so that nobody really understands or sees at least the situation that you're in.

Top 10 Witchblade Surprising Facts - Duration: 5:24.

Witchblade is one of the more obscure comics that people tend to know by name, but don't

know a whole lot about.

Published by Top Cow Productions, an imprint of Image comics, it ran from 1995 to 2015

but recently got a revamped series that follows a brand new protagonist at the end of 2017.

So what is Witchblade?

And who are the women that have wielded it?

Well, these are all questions we plan on answering in our list of the top 10 Witchblade Shocking

Facts.

10 Sentient Gauntlet Witchblade is a supernatural, sentient gauntlet

that bonds with a female host.

It's conscious, intelligent and ancient.

While it's been around for ages, in our modern times it was discovered by a man named

Kenneth Irons – more on him later, though.

If an unworthy user tries to wield it, that individual will lose their arm.

Yikes.

But when it does form a symbiotic relationship with a host, it will spread and expand across

the host's body to form armor, often shredding the host's clothes in the process.

Hence the Witchblade comic's sex appeal.

The amount of armor often fluctuates based on the threat at hand.

What else can it do?

It increases the strength and endurance of its host, can heal wounds, including fatal

ones, is invulnerable, allows the host to have pyrokinesis, can heal others, and can

also summon additional weapons.

9 The Darkness and The Angelus Witchblade is the offspring of the universe's

opposing primal aspects – the Darkness, and the Angelus.

It's a male aspect, hence why it needs a female host in order to balance itself out.

The Angelus is a female entity who represents the light and order, whereas the Darkness

is a male entity who represents the dark and chaos.

Both entities can choose hosts of their own.

They made a 'sexual truce' and created the Witchblade together despite being mortal

enemies.

8 Wielders There have been many individuals who have

wielded Witchblade over the centuries – over 33 of them.

This includes the likes of Joan of Arc.

The first was a woman named Una, who had a pet tiger and appears in 14 issues of the

series, primarily as cameos.

7 Canceled Film Like most comic book properties, there was

once a Witchblade feature film in the works.

Back in 2008, it was announced that Witchblade would be getting its own film, scheduled to

be released in the subsequent year as a production between Top Cow, Platinum Studios and Arclight

Media, with Matt Hawkins and Marc Silvestri of Top Cow serving as two of the exec producers.

Canceled before it even got to pre-production, the film was supposed to commence shooting

in September of 2008 in Australia.

6 Sara Pezzini When Witchblade started, the host was Sara

Pezzini, an NYPD homicide detective.

She discovers Witchblade while on a case that crossed paths with the villain Kenneth Irons,

who had it in his possession.

Witchblade abandons Kenneth and bonds with Sara Fighting off supernatural evils, Sara

also finds herself fending off those who want to use Witchblade for their own sinister agenda.

She's impregnated by Jackie Estacado, the host of the Darkness, when she's in a coma

– both of them unaware of this occurring, actually – and ends up having a daughter

named Hope.

5 Danielle Baptiste Speaking of Hope, let's talk about her relation

to the next host of the Witchblade, Danielle Baptiste.

Dani is known for being an impulsive yet good-hearted woman who was born in New Orleans, daughter

to the police captain.

She moved to New York to pursue a career in dancing, which is when she crossed paths with

Sara and the Witchblade.

Danielle was given Witchblade by Sara, although she would eventually give half of the gauntlet

back to Sara during her complicated delivery of her daughter Hope in order to save her

life.

Dani would eventually become the host of Angelus.

4 Kenneth Irons Kenneth Irons is the primary villain of the

Witchblade series.

An international businessman and criminal mastermind, he sets his sights on Witchblade

after discovering it in Greece.

He tries to control it, and in the process loses his hand and his wife.

Throughout the series it's revealed that he's 800 years old, and was a Templar Knight

who drank from the Holy Grail, granting him immortality and a pretty sweet healing ability.

3 Alex Underwood The current 2017 Witchblade features a new

female host named Alex Underwood.

Her story starts with her gunned down and left for dead atop of a New York rooftop.

This is when Witchblade finds her – right before she dies, she becomes the new host.

But, she finds that her newfound power has made her quite the target – demons all over

the city are hunting her down in an attempt to take her out before her power grows even

more.

2 The Television Series Despite the feature film being a bust, a Witchblade

tv show did manage to come out of the woodwork.

In August of 2000, a pilot of the show premiered on TNT that ran for two seasons in 2001 and

2002 starring Yancy Butler as Sara Pezzini.

It was eventually canceled in September of 2002, and later had a made-for-tv movie released

alongside all 23 episodes of the show in 2008.

But, fear not – ANOTHER Witchblade show is in development for NBC – back in January

of 2017, the show was announced, and it will also follow Sara Pezzini and her quest to

track down a serial killer in San Francisco.

1 13 Artifacts The Witchblade is one of thirteen artifacts

of power that the world's fate balances on.

Each artifact requires a bearer or host.

The artifacts are said to guide the fate of the universe, yet, if brought together, the

will end the universe.

How morbid.

Aside from Witchblade, these also include The Darkness, The Angelus, the spear of destiny,

the blood sword, the glacier stone, the ember stone, pandora's box, the rapture, the wheel

of shadows, the coin of Solomon and the heart stone.

Then there's the mysterious last one known as the thirteenth, which is a great force

of evil – according to the series, "without it, the others are mere trinkets.

With it, the thirteen can be one again, and the world will be created anew."

Tamika Mallory Says Death Of Son's Father Started Her Activism | BET Her Awards - Duration: 1:11.

>> I'm Tamika Danielle Mallory.

>> I'm a mother. I'm an activist and I'm a black woman.

So my parents were founding members

of the National Action Network

which is Reverend Al Sharpton's organization.

I saw it as being a curse. I'm grateful for it today.

After the death of my son's father I realized

that activism was going to be my full lifetime commitment.

It's a struggle that you know has been life long

but I don't feel that any of us can do it alone.

It's a real commitment that we have to take on as a community.

Five million people across the world

participated in the women's march on Washington.

I think the feeling of desperation

has really pushed a lot of people in

and got them charged up wanting to be a part

of something that's bigger than themselves.

Even those who are not.

As privileged as you deserve your support.

Thank you BET

Her for honoring me with this Social Justice Award.
