Why U.S. combat troops don't use ballistic shields - Duration: 2:14.
Ballistic shields are carried by
police forces to stop or deflect bullets.
They make sense when establishing a perimeter,
approaching a high risk subject or
as a personal shield in a defensive situation.
They do not, however, make sense for
U.S. troops in combat, here's why.
And by the way, in this video I will
use the term ballistic shield to be an all inclusive
term for type 3A rated shields used by law inforcement.
- Whoa.
- A ballistic shield loses its edge on a battlefield,
and more so against an unconventional foe.
First of all, the shield is cumbersome.
The size and weight reduces a rifleman's
speed and mobility, two very important traits
that are not eagerly sacrificed by warriors.
It's always better to dodge a bullet than to block it.
- Whoa.
- A modern troop will already be equipped with
heavy gear, ammo, and a chest full of patriotism.
We don't wanna add more weight to their battle rattle.
The ballistic shield is lightweight
only in the sense that it weighs under 20 pounds.
It just becomes another thing to lug around,
with no comfortable method of carry.
Firefights can sometimes last hours, days,
or in some of the most brutal circumstances, months.
Warriors need to be as lightweight as possible
with the most efficient means of protection,
which is why some people suggest a shield, right?
- Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
- Unfortunately, the ballistic shield
isn't the right tool for the job.
Unconventional enemies use high caliber
armor piercing rounds, most of what
you would find when fighting terror organizations
would rip right through a ballistic shield.
You just won't find the Islamic state
imposing their twisted ideologies with a nine millimeter.
An improvised explosive device
buried in the ground will effectively
neutralize any benefit of that additional armor.
Finally, most battles don't devolve into a
standoff sealed away from the rest of the city.
- Okay, everybody just calm down.
- Battle tactics involve soundly
defeating the threat which is much different
from the law enforcement objective to protect and serve.
Ballistic shields have earned their place
as a staple for law enforcement
because they have a specific purpose.
Those same shields offer little to
no benefit in military combat.
You know who does use the ballistic shield?
The NASA SWAT team, yeah that's a thing and they're awesome.

Protestors Prepare GIANT Baby Trump Blimp To Mock Trump In England - Duration: 3:02.
For at least a year now there has been this will they, won't they relationship between
Donald Trump and Great Britain on whether or not he's ever going to make his official
visit there.
It had been planned a couple times, it had been canceled a couple times, postponed a
few times, but now the official visit is set for July 13th.
When Donald Trump touches down in the United Kingdom he is going to be greeted by a 20
foot tall blimp that is actually an image of a baby Donald Trump with a diaper.
That is the form of protest that British protesters have decided is the best way to show Donald
Trump that he is not welcome in their country and that they do not respect him.
This to me is one of the greatest forms of protest imaginable, because the people over
there seem to understand Donald Trump in a way that a lot of the folks in the United
States don't quite get.
Here's an exact quote, this is from Leo [Murray 00:01:07], he is the guy who organized all
this, got the blimp together, raised the money to do it.
This is what he says, and this is so spot on, "Moral outrage has no effect on Trump
because he has no shame.
He's immune to it but he has a tremendously fragile ego, so ridicule is an effective form
of protest.
So we want to make sure that he knows that all of Britain is looking down on him and
laughing at him."
That's what you have to do.
That's how you resist.
That's how you fight back against this man.
You can't try to show him the truth, you can't try to show him that his policies are destroying
the United States, that they're wrecking the economy, that they're destroying families,
that they're destroying the environment because he doesn't care.
To be honest he probably doesn't quite understand it, but what he does understand is when people
are making fun of him.
That is exactly what the Brits are going to do here.
They're going to make sure that he gets off that plane and where ever he goes, that there
is a giant 20 foot baby Trump following him around the city, and they've made sure that
if they can't get the permit to fly the blimp, that they have already got a barge ready and
they're just going to have it on the barge.
So there is no way that the president is not going to see this thing.
They're going to make sure that he knows what the rest of the world thinks of him and it's
going to be interesting for Donald because one of the reasons he'd been putting off this
trip was because he didn't want to be met by protestors, so they've up it.
They may not be in the streets, I'm sure there'll probably be a lot of them though but they
don't have to be at this point because the biggest form of protest imaginable is going
to be hovering over Donald Trump's head through his entire visit.

Trump Refuses To Take The Blame For Destroying American Businesses - Duration: 4:12.
As Donald Trump's trade wars continue to destroy businesses here in the United States, he wants
to make one thing absolutely clear to the American public, none of this is his fault
whatsoever.
That's right.
The president who wants to take credit for riding his economic coattails of Obama, and
wants us to say that every good economic things that happens is because of him, refuses to
take the blame for all of the bad things that are starting to pop up all over the US economy.
This week, it was Harley Davidson.
They announced that due to the tariffs, the retaliatory tariffs that have been put in
place by other countries as a result of Donald Trump's tariffs on those countries.
That they're going to have to move some of their production overseas.
They're going to lay off American workers, they're going to move some factory production
so that they can get around all of these horrible tariffs that are in place because of Donald
Trump's policies.
So, Trump lashed out at Harley Davidson on Twitter.
He said, their employees and customers are already very angry at them, if they move,
watch, it will be the beginning of the end.
They surrendered, they quit, the aura will be gone, and they will be taxed like never
before.
Now, to me, it sounds like the president is using his official capacity as the political
leader of this country to intimidate and harass and threaten a private business.
Now, last time I checked, that's actually illegal.
But of course, as we've seen with every single thing Trump has done, nobody's ever going
to hold them accountable.
Nobody's going to file an ethics complaint against them for this, but just remember that
when you see these things that yes, this is technically illegal for the President to do
it.
But at this point, that's the least of our concerns.
What we do have to worry about are the businesses that are closing their doors and laying off
American workers because they can't afford to keep operating due to Donald Trump's trade
war.
Harley Davidson is not the first one this week.
We already heard about the story of the nail manufacturing company, the largest in the
United States that's already laid off 500 people.
And now the president of that company is worried that he's going to have to shut his doors
completely because they simply can't afford to operate due to Donald Trump's trade wars.
Yet, here Trump is on Twitter threatening these companies and saying that, "It's not
my fault.
You got to wait it out.
Be patient.
Yeah, things are going to suck for quite a while, but eventually they'll get better."
That's not how this works Donald.
You're playing a game that you don't understand.
Nobody ever emerges as the winner of a trade war.
It eventually comes down to everybody having to sit down and make a ton of concessions
in order to get it to stop.
And that is not something that Donald Trump is willing to do.
And because of that, this is going to last, this is going to get worse, and let's remember,
this has been what, about a month now that these terrorists have been going on.
And we've lost well over $1 billion worth of economic activity in the United States.
Businesses are closing their doors, hundreds of people, if not thousands at this point,
have already lost their jobs in one month.
Can you imagine how bad things will be by the end of the summer if he doesn't stop this.
In all of it, every single piece of it is 100% his fault.
You can't even argue that this is a Republican thing, no, this is a Donald Trump thing.
He is doing this on his own, unilaterally.
I guess you could blame Republicans a little bit because they refused to vote on the democratic
legislation that would have stopped Trump from doing this.
But at the end of the day, he is the one that made these decisions.
He is the one who is destroying these businesses, and he is the one who doesn't want to accept
any of the blame for wrecking the US economy.

JUSTICE SERVED To Red Hen Owner As She's Forced Out After Sudden Turn Of Events.
I consider this very good news.
Stephanie Wilkinson, the owner of the now infamous Red Hen restaurant in Lexington,
VA that kicked out White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and seven members of
her family, has resigned as the executive director of a group of local business owners
who work to promote the community.
This came after a poll was conducted on whether she should stay or go.
I voted in that poll against her and for once it made a difference.
So much for her envisioning herself as some kind of local hero over her disgraceful behavior.
Wilkinson told The Washington Post that she asked Sanders to leave because the restaurant
employs several LGBT employees and Sanders' defense of President Trump's call to bar
transgender people from the military were antithetical to her beliefs.
Wilkinson already had to take down her Facebook page because she got hammered and hacked there.
I also hear that business for Wilkinson has taken a severe hit.
After Sanders was 86'd from the Red Hen, conservatives and Trump supporters took to
Yelp and blasted Wilkinson.
That was only hours after the incident took place.
Then protesters that support the Trump administration showed up outside the Red Hen.
That got media attention.
Some carried enormous Trump flags and donned red "Make America Great Again" hats.
Others carried signs asking for tolerance and civility.
And as it kicked into high gear, many just showed up to watch.
The incident sparked many protests and a whole lot of criticism from Trump supporters and
even some Democrats.
The Republican Party of Virginia has called for a boycott of the business.
A raucous demonstration occurred when people gathered outside the Red Hen to protest the
restaurant's treatment of Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
"I'm appalled at the way they treated the press secretary, and I think if people
don't make a stand, that kind of stuff will continue around the state and around the country,"
said Ian McDonald, 34, of Accomack County.
"So we've got to send a message that it's not acceptable."
"I think by [Wilkinson] making the choice to do this, she opened herself up to a fired-up
country," Paulette DelCasale, from Georgia, said while protesting outside the restaurant.
"I believe this city is losing its identity," said Simon Islam, a senior at Washington and
Lee University, which is in Lexington.
"It's become too liberal, and it's had a negative impact."
Lauren Green at Fox News asked a very good question over all of this:
"The owner of the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia missed a prime opportunity
to live out the framed words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that are on display in the
restaurant's window: "Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into
a friend."
"Those words are very close to the sentiment of President Abraham Lincoln, who after the
Civil War said of the Southern combatants: "Do I not destroy my enemies when I make
them my friends?"
"If restaurant owner Stephanie Wilkinson so disagreed with White House Press Secretary
Sarah Sanders, the Trump administration and all Cabinet members so strongly, why didn't
she see Sanders' presence in her restaurant as a gift from God to try to transform an
enemy into a friend?"
Indeed, it was a missed opportunity that could have actually helped Wilkinson's cause.
Evidently, the Golden Rule is much more difficult than it sounds: "Do unto others as you would
have them do unto you."
VA State Representative Ben Cline profusely apologized for the actions of the Red Hen
restaurant owner and made it clear they do not support what she did.
She also stalked Sanders' in-laws when they left and went to another restaurant where
she assembled a mob to harass them.
Wilkinson proceeded to protest against them there as well.
Cline also claims that Stephanie Wilkinson is a cousin of Meryl Streep's.
Why am I not surprised.
Her actions negatively impacted the Facebook page for The Historic City of Lexington, VA.
It had to be shut down after getting deluged with negative comments on all this.
They were the ones who ran the poll and whose board Wilkinson was removed from as director
of the downtown business district.
80% wanted her gone and that was all it took for her to resign.
The Red Hen restaurant itself has evidently shut its doors for an undetermined amount
of time.
Justin Peery, the owner of Good Place Farms Bed & Breakfast, which hosted the Sanders
family last week, said Wilkinson will not reopen the restaurant until July 5.
I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
Sounds like justice to me.
Wilkinson has the right to kick out whomever she wants, but she also has the right to go
out of business when people stop going there.
Things just aren't going her way.
So much for her version of morality.
The extended shutdown will cost the employees and owners significantly.
Main Street Lexington's Board President, Elizabeth Branner, accepted Wilkonson's
resignation yesterday morning.
"Considering the events of the past weekend, Stephanie felt it best that for the continued
success of Main Street Lexington, she should step aside," Branner wrote in an email.
She's right… some mistakes you just can't come back from.

Building small habits make bigger changes than goals. For example, spending
five minutes tidying before bed keeps things far better under control than
like periodic big clear outs.
Things don't have to be done for a purpose,
especially poetry.
Conventions suck. Break them.
Giving up is good. Giving up his
light. Giving up is the key to something better or at least different.
Remember there is so much more than the here and now.
Remember there is nothing but the
here and now.
The future is hypothetical, you can't live there.
Drink more water for pity's sake!!
Answering an email is rarely a
consuming task. There is no need to wait and you'll feel better for it so just
just go and do it.
You don't have to be working all the time.
But taking time for
yourself isn't a one-size-fits-all. Work if you need to.
You can get better.
You can get worse. Go with it.
Stop setting unreachable tidying goals! When you get
home tired and hungry you're not gonna put it there, seriously you won't.
Identity is an illusion.
The Sun can make you happier than any success, goal or
fantasy, so really it's not that big of a deal
feeling alone is more detrimental than you pretend to think.
Be a friend because
they need one, not because you do. Empathy is created.
Five year or lifetime plans
are capitalist plots to brew unhappiness.
Actually you can just write and put on a show,
you just got to try. You could still be kicking higher, pal.
It is very, very
good to listen, but you don't have to be silent to do so.
You like or at least tend to be consumed. This is both your superpower and your Achilles heel.
There will always be a more and next
