The theatre of the Hotel Alhambra Palace
is known as the ´Teatrillo´ del Palace
it´s part of local Granada history and its culture
since it began in 1910
this theatre has had an intense life and still does
from the start, it has been actively involved in the Cultural programme in Granada
and it has been the stage for historical moments in the city
it is a venue for the International Festival of Music and Dance each year
this year, it was a setting for the International Tango Festival
Music and Poetry recitals Conferences and workshops are held here
we organize parties and receptions here too
it is an emblem within the hotel
in the Hotel Alhambra Palace Book an entire chapter is dedicated to the theatre
of all of the things that have happened here, I want to mention one
in June 1922
the Competition of Cante Jondo (singing) was presented here
this competition was a milestone
in local Granada history
as it was the first recognition of Flamenco as a cultural music
up to here the story is quite enchanting
the presentation is done by Federico Garcia Lorca and Manuel de Falla
and Angel Barrios, who are the creators of this competition
the competition took place at the Patio of Aljibes inside the Alhambra Palace grounds
where the well is now
but the best part isn´t actually the presentation to the press
but at the end of the presentation Federico García Lorca
on this stage, recited for the first time
the poem ¨Baladilla de los tres rios¨
belonging to the book Poems of Cante Jondo
which wasn´t published until 1929
his first performance of it was here with Manuel de Falla accompanying him on the piano
after sharing this story, it´s hard to top that
as it is so valuable, both culturally and historically speaking
its sentimental and its poetic
what this theatre has seen and meant over the years
which is completely original theatre design
with fabulous acoustics, a sense of intimacy and glamour
both for the performers and for the audience
which is truly special
a unique and unrepeatable venue in the city
