September 20th, 2018. Boom!
The BBC drops a new trailer for the series 11 of Doctor Who,
nice and hot.
A more complete and longer trailer than the previous one,
introducing more clearly the characters, allowing them to finally say something.
Typical Doctor and friends sentences, because we are not saying companions anymore.
However, there is always a goodwill to reveal us the least possible.
No Tardis' inside nor outside, not clearly defined antagonists, or furtively;
No obvious storyline clues, only some unclear situations.
In short, they are showing more than before without showing much new.
There is action, adventure in space, on Earth and on other planets.
There is a lot of diverse shots but it is difficult to say
how much episodes are displayed in this trailer.
I found at least four, others shots are too unclear to know:
the first one's where the Doctor has still got the Capaldi outfit,
the one in the past with the Doctor wearing a red t-shirt,
the one with a kind of modern starship or building (maybe an indoor episode)
and the one on the sand planet, probably where there is the sea.
That said, I will not analyze more these shots, I don't want to over-analyze them.
A point that caused debate is the music of the trailer.
I presume that it's not a music that will be in the show.
I think that music had been chosen with the will
of not to reveal already the themes of the composer, Segun Akinola.
That said, I am also be hesitating: do I like this music or not?
A priori, I want to say I like it but it has nothing to do with Doctor Who
and, even if it is well melting with the trailer,
I am unable to connect the music to Doctor Who.
Well, it was what I thought before I saw the American trailer shared by ABC.
The link is in description.
This one uses a more common music, more like what we got used to hear in Doctor Who.
Well... I found this trailer less memorable.
In fact, the trailer is based on the full change: perfect shots, sublime visual effects,
colorimetry made to measure.
Doctor Who is changing.
And this unexpected music contribute to this impression.
We even come to think: "Am I watching a Doctor Who related trailer?"
The show is now renovated and completely different.
So, with a music more classic, there is a little loss of the renew.
The ABC's trailer seems to be more enjoyable to the ones by these changes.
Personally, I prefer the normal one.
I like to be shaken up with my habits.
If you watch the trailer on YouTube, you will see that the format of the video calls to renew, to moder.
The trailer starts with a "bumper trailer", short shots to give the desire what there will be next.
The image seems to be in a 2:39 aspect ratio, a very large but not high image,
that is giving these incredible landscapes;
and that is confirming that they used their new movie cameras with talent.
And finally, that is ending on...
Now, Jodie Whittaker is the new Doctor.
And apart from this trailer, what's new?
Yeah, the announcements are going one after another at the moment!
We were blessed by a new teaser, with the same music,
"Glorious" of Macklemore and Skylar Grey,
Which annoyed me more in this teaser.
But what is this teaser about? Well, a glass ceiling literally exploding.
Figuratively, the "breaking the glass ceiling" expression refers to people succeeding to impose themselves
upper the level to which they were allowed to claim,
especially for the women.
Hence the "Whoops".
Nobody was thinking that a female Doctor can excel at this role,
however, she did it.
Across this teaser, but also the flooding of promotional pictures on social networks,
we can see a new corporate identity and style guide,
very colourful, very luminous and very organic.
I think I can say, without going to far, that this new identity is echoing to the future opening titles.
By the way, about the opening titles, there had be announcing that it will only be in the second episode.
No credits in the first one.
This is common nowadays, nothing exceptional, but it suggests credits in relation
with first episode elements.
Other news, the announcement of the release dates of the Whittaker era first novels:
"The Good Doctor" on October 25th; "Molten Heart" on November 8th, "Combat Magicks" on November 22nd.
Also, the Whittaker's "Mr Men" will be available in English on November 6th.
And, finally, last absolutely mind-blowing news:
the first episode will be broadcast in Belgian movie theaters (in description)
but not in France due to the media release chronology,
prohibiting a movie theater broadcast too close to the TV one.
On the other hand, French fans will not have to wait a long time
because France 4 is going to broadcast every episode of series 11
only 4 days after the United Kingdom broadcasting.
Realise how amazing it is!
Every Thursday at 10:25PM, from October 11th, we will have the opportunity to watch
in original language with subtitles, on France 4, the last Sunday episode!
Oh, yeah, now the episodes are broadcasting the Sundays on BBC.
Anyway, it makes a lot of crazy news!
The branding is here, Whittaker is everywhere in United Kingdom, they are putting everything into it!
So, hyped or not ?
For the previous series, the hype was based on the fact that was Doctor Who, with Capaldi and all this.
But, for this new series, the hype is above of that,
the profusion of news and mysteries are increasing it,
we are going to watch something new, and this something looks great!
Looks like they know what they're doing.
I'm being so optimistic to this new series.
And you?
