Hello, I'm Regina Stein from Ateliê MariaRê and in this class we'll learn how to make
this cat pencil topper. Let's do it?
To make this cat topper, we'll need
Bella's thread leftovers, from Pingouin, in colors white and light pink number 4301,
of a 2.5mm-long
crochet needle, of a darning and an embroidery needle,
of pins, of rows' marker
and of black beads. We're also going to need balls' embroidery
threads in colors pink and black
and of silicon fiber for the filling.
Let's start by making a magic ring.
Let's fasten the thread,
we'll make six single crochets inside this ring.
Now, let's close the ring.
And we've finished the first row, we've six stitches.
Now, we'll make the second row, it'll all be made in increases,
we'll make an increase on each one of these stitches
and, by the end of the second row, we'll have 12 stitches.
So, we've made the first increase, let's put the marker before it.
And we'll keep making an increase over each stitch.
The initial thread is already fastened underneath the stitches, so we can cut it.
Now, we'll start the third row.
It'll have a sequence of three single crochet followed by an increase,
we'll repeat this sequence three times and, by the end of the third row, we'll have 15 stitches.
So, we'll make the first stitch and put the marker before it.
Let's finish up the three stitches from the sequence
and, then,
an increase.
Once more, three single crochets.
An increase.
Once more, three single crochets.
And an increase.
We've finished the third row, we've 15 stitches. In the next rows, from the fourth to the sixth,
we'll just make single crochets, a single crochet on each of these stitches
in a total of 15 stitches,
without increases nor decreases.
So, we'll keep going on by making a single crochet over each stitch
until the end of this row, which is the fourth one,
and in the same way until the end of the sixth row.
We've reached the end of the sixth row, let's make the seventh one.
It'll have a sequence of three single crochets followed by a decrease,
we'll repeat this sequence three times and, at the end of the seventh row, we'll have 12 stitches.
So we'll make three single crochets.
A decrease.
Once more, three single crochets.
A decrease.
And once more, three single crochets.
And a decrease.
The next row will be the eighth, it'll all be done in decreases,
we'll make six decreases and, at the end of the eighth row, we'll have six stitches.
So, let's make the first decrease,
let's put the marker.
Once more.
Let's keep going on like this until the end of the row.
Now, we'll make the ninth row, it'll have a sequence of two single crochets
followed by an increase, we'll repeat this sequence twice and,
at the end of the ninth row, we'll have eight stitches.
We've made the first stitch, let's put the marker,
we'll make one more.
Then,
an increase.
Once more.
Two single crochets.
And an increase.
We've reached the end of the ninth row, we've eight stitches. In the next row, which will be the tenth,
we keep these eight stitches, we won't make increases nor decreases,
let's make a single crochet over each stitch.
Let's keep going on like this until the end of the row.
Now, we'll fill this ball which will be the cat's head.
We can, with the needle's aid, open this hole a little bit
and we'll start to put
the filling little by little.
Let's keep on filling the head until it gets steady.
The head is filled, let's proceed with the crochet.
For the next row, which will be the eleventh,
we'll keep the number of stitches that we've here, which are eight.
So, from the eleventh to the twentieth, we'll make a single crochet over each stitch
and we'll keep the eight stitches, we won't make increases nor decreases.
So, let's keep going on like this until the twentieth row.
We've finished the twentieth row, now let's make the twenty-first row.
It'll all be done in slip stitches, we'll make a slip stitch over each one of
these stitches, in a total of eight slip stitches. So, we've made the first one.
And we'll keep going on like this until the end of the row.
We've reached the end, the thread is already cut, we'll tie it up
with one more slip stitch.
Now, let's pass this thread through a needle and let's hide it.
Let's pass the thread
underneath some stitches through the right side,
mainly because it'll be hard to turn around this piece, since it's tiny.
And now, we'll make the ears.
Initially, we'll make three chains.
Now, in the second chain from the needle, this is the first, in the second one,
we'll make a single crochet
and in the next one a single crochet as well.
We've two stitches. Now we'll make the second row, we'll turn our work around
and we'll make a decrease here.
It's not the invisible decrease, because
we're working here with a flat piece.
So, let's pull it, the decrease is done.
And we'll make a chain
to fasten it here, let's cut the thread. The thread is cut, just pull it here.
Now, let's hide this tip here.
Let's pass this thread underneath some stitches.
Just be careful to not undo the ear's tip here.
The first ear is done, let's make the second one in the same way.
Both ears are done, we'll leave these threads' leftovers
to sew them on the head.
Now, let's make the head's little bow.
We'll make the little bow with the pink thread,
let's make five chains.
Now, in the first chain that we've made here, we'll insert the needle
and we'll make a slip stitch.
Now, we'll make four chains.
Let's insert the needle where we've made the slip stitch and let's make another one.
And now we'll cut the thread.
The thread is cut with leftovers that we'll use to sew the little bow on the head,
we'll just pull it here.
We'll hide this smaller tip on the back side.
Since this bow is tiny,
we'll pass the thread underneath just some stitches.
And we'll cut it.
The little bow is done.
Now, we'll sew the interior of this ear.
We'll use a tipped needle
and a thread from a pink ball. So, we'll fasten this thread here in the center;
we're just using a thread to look more delicate,
we'll leave the kinkle here in the center
and we'll sew on it and then it'll disappear.
So, we'll make some stitches until we form a little triangle here in the center,
but picking the thread more superficially, the white thread,
so that the embroidery doesn't appear in this side here.
So, we'll make stitches
on these stitches here.
It isn't a big embroidery, just some stitches
to form the interior of the ear.
Now we'll tie up the thread.
We'll hide it underneath the embroidery.
And we'll cut it.
We'll do the same thing with the other ear. Now, we'll sew the ears on the head.
We'll put the ear, the tip of the ear, a row below the center here.
So, we'll lean it here.
And we'll sew it on the head.
Here in the tip, we'll tie it up, so it won't be out,
let's turn the ear around
and let's sew it on the front side as well.
By reaching the end, we'll tie up the thread.
Let's leave the thread in any point.
And we'll cut it.
Let's sew the other ear in this side here in the same way.
The ears are already in place, now let's sew the face and pin the eyes.
Let's start by embroidering the nose.
We'll mark it in the following way.
Starting from the top here, one, two, three, four rows.
Let's wrap two stitches,
go down a row and mark the center here. We'll make a triangle in this space.
Since this cat has a little bow on the top of her head, we'll fast the thread on the top here.
Let's exit with it at the first pin.
Let's enter here in the second and leave in the third one.
We've formed a "V" here.
Now we need to fill this "V" with stitches.
We're using an embroidery thread from a ball
with double thread and a tipped needle
because we're making an embroidery.
We'll fill all this space here.
We can make a stitch next to the other here on the top.
And we'll make down here,
the nose's nostril.
Let's go back with the needle there on the top.
And we'll tie up here.
Now we can leave it at any point.
Now, let's sew the eyes.
The marking was done here in the upper thread of the snout
by skipping a stitch here,
another stitch here. With the black embroidery thread and the tipped needle,
we'll fast again the thread here
on the top of the head, where the little bow goes,
and we'll exit here with the needle at the first pin.
And let's pin it a black bead here.
Fasten well the eye
and leave the thread there for another marking.
Let's sew the other eye here in the same way.
The whisker marking of this side here is done,
that is, the nose line here, the first one. Let's skip two stitches,
the second one.
Inside this thread on the down thread, not in the hole, inside the stitch,
another marking.
Two stitches to there, another marking.
So here, with the eye's thread, we'll exit in the first whisker marking.
Don't forget to sink well the thread inside the head
so it won't emerge here on the surface.
We're using just a thread because the whisker has to look delicate.
So, here, two stitches, let's enter here.
Let's exit here inside the stitch, because, otherwise, if we exit there on hole,
this whisker will get very separated,
far below.
Now we'll enter in the hole two stitches to here.
Now, let's make this same marking in the side here
and, from here, we'll pass with the needle to here.
This marking is done, now we'll enter with the needle here and exit there at the first pin.
Let's make the whiskers in this side here in the same way.
Let's go back to the top of the head
and let's tie up the thread here.
Now we can leave it inside the head
and we can cut it.
Now, let's put the little bow on top of the finishes and sew it.
Let's pass the thread through the middle of the little bow
so it'll get a tie format.
Now we can tie this thread up.
And hide it.
And the cat is done.
If you think this part that gets fastened on the pencil is too long, you can decrease it,
it was made longer like this to be steadier, but you can make it shorter.
If you want it to be a male cat instead of a female cat, just change the colors,
make the finishes here in the neck and put this little bow here as it was a tie.
