Top 5 Tips to Become A Better Player | Mobile Legends: Bang Bang - Duration: 17:17.

Hey everyone, This is Betosky, and in today's video I

will be giving you my personal Top 5 tips that have helped me win a lot of my games,

especially when playing with random teammates.

Not having feeders, AFK, noobs, trolls, toxic players, and having good teammates.

All these things would be great of course…

But are these something that we can control?

Nope.

Then there's no point in complaining about it and let's focus on things that we can

control.

I saw this comment in one of my videos.

And it talks about the 40/40/20 rules 40% of matches you will lose regardless of

how you play 40% of matches you will win regardless of

how you play The 20% are the things that we can do and

can control This 20% will determine whether we get the

victory or the defeat But here is the important part, you can actually

increase this amount if you completely master the inside and out of this game

What I am about to teach you have worked for me very well and it's the accumulation of

many games of mobile legends and the experience from other MOBA.

1.If you are tilted, take a break: From my personal experience I can tell you that when you are

tilted, you cannot perform at your full capacity and you will be making a lot of very poor

in-game decision.

If you are in a losing streak, and feel very tilted and angry, then I would highly suggest

you to stop playing and take a break.

And here I have great recommendation that would help you un-tilt from a losing streak.

*The War of Genesis.

A visually stunning strategy MMORPG mobile game.

Where you can customize your very own Airship to fight against others.

You can collect over 80 very well designed heroes that will fight for you and you will

also have the ability to summon giant Machina during battle.

The fight scenes are beautifully animated and the voice actors are on point.

There will be challenging dungeons that would require a lot of strategies to beat them.

And the best part, this game has a lot of Guild Vs Guild and PvP combat, which I enjoy

the most.

Download War of Genesis for Free using my link in the description box today and get

a free 4-star hero!*

Okay now that you are un-tilted, let's go

to Tip number 2

Action Mentality: It starts with your mindset.

If you are playing with random players, have this expectation ready that you might encounter

noobs in your team.

We have this tendency that every time we lose we shift the blame on others.

But if you stop and think for a moment.

Do you really believe you are the only unlucky one getting all the noobs and AFK?

What about the other team?

So instead of having this blaming mentality, we should have an action mentality.

Take matters into our own hands.

I know it's easier said than done, and even I have difficult time when I see my team just

keep feeding non-stop.

But I have seen this way too many times that I know blaming and flaming my teammates won't

help me win games, in fact it will just lower my chance of winning them.

By the way, this match is a great example to showcase the things that I will be teaching you during this video

# 3

Completely master your favorite heroes: Yes, I am telling you to be a one-trick pony player.

That means spam one hero AT A TIME.

And better yet, if it's a meta hero.

You got to spam the hero until you completely master it.

That way you will know how to carry with that hero and how to counter it as well.

Once you master that specific hero you can move to the next one and so on.

But before you move on, you should really make sure that you have master the hero and

not just being good at it.

This strategy it's very efficient because with repetition you will be able to play the

hero by instinct.

This alone would immensely improve your overall gameplay, win rate and your rank.

Don't get me wrong though, you should still learn and know to certain extent how all the

other heroes work.

But that will come naturally as you keep playing the game.

On the same note, master one to two roles: Find which roles you excel at and be consistent.

Yes, I know it's a good idea to know how to use all the heroes and different roles,

but if you truly want to go from being an okay player to a great player, you got to

be more specialized in your roles.

You know the saying, "Jack of all trades master of none."

I mean you don't have to take it from me, if you want proof, just take a look at all

the pros playing in pro environment.

All the pro players have certain role, for example: Yuji specialized in mage role.

Tuturu in ADC.

Jess in assassin role and so on.

That doesn't mean they cannot play other roles, but they excel when they play their

most comfortable role.

Also this way you can just level up faster the emblems you really need.

4.

Adapt to different situation: If you want to solo Mid and one of your teammate doesn't

care.

Then it's okay to either duo middle lane or go to a different lane.

Change your build according to the enemies' heroes.

That's why the game provides you with three different set of builds.

If you guys are snowballing, play more aggressive and join in team fights.

If you are falling behind.

Play more defensively and just try to farm and defend your base.

5.

Focus on objectives: Try to finish the game as soon as possible by taking objectives.

If you have killed 2 or more enemy heroes, that's a good time to push or take the Lord.

I know it's more fun to keep getting kills, but as the game goes on, the other team will

be getting more and more core items and then your advantage in early game will go away.

One single mistake might cost you the entire game in the late game.

If you are a marksman, your objective is to make sure you just farm early game and get

your core items as soon as possible.

If you are playing Mid, your objective is to facilitate your teammates by constantly

ganking and putting pressure in other lanes.

Okay guys, those were my Top 5 Tips and I will leave you guys with the rest of the gameplay

where you can see how I apply most of the things I just mentioned.

Also, If you have any other recommendation, leave a comment.

Thanks.

Varicocele - Is it killing your fertility? Learn what to do - Duration: 4:32.

Any man that has low sperm counts or poor sperm movement could have a problem

known as a varicocele.

Learn about varicocele on today's episode of InfertilityTV

A varicocele is the presence of enlarged or dilated veins

in the blood vessels of the scrotum

Normally, the scrotal veins have valves

that regulate the blood flow

However, in some cases the valves are absent or

defective and the blood does not circulate out of the testicles efficiently.

This results in swelling of the veins above and behind the testicles

About 85% of varicoceles develop in the left testicle

Do varicoceles cause infertility in men?

The answer is...sometimes!

Let me explain.

We know that if you examine men with perfectly normal fertility

you will find that about 20% of them have a varicocele

But...

if you look at men who have infertility

meaning he and his partner they're not able to

conceive for about a year

then you will find a varicocele in about 40% of that group

So varicoceles are associated with a greater likelihood of infertility

But, not all varicoceles will result in infertility

at the present time, there is no way to determine

whether a varicocele in a specific individual

is the cause of his infertility problems

We are not entirely certain how varicoceles cause infertility

Some evidence points to the increased temperature of the blood

raising the temperature of the testicles

which then damages the sperm

Heat can damage or destroy sperm

The increased temperature may also

impede production of new healthy sperm

Another theory is that in men with varicoceles

the testicular fluid which carries sperm

has an increased

concentration of chemicals which can damage sperm.

These chemicals are called

reactive oxygen species

or ROS.

So how do you know if you have a varicocele?

The most obvious cases can be seen by just looking

at a guy's scrotum.

Large varicoceles

can look or feel like a bag of worms

It is easier to see or feel

a varicocele when a man is standing compared to one he is lying down

Sometimes a varicocele may become

more apparent when a man bears down

to try to increase the intra-abdominal pressure

The American Urological Association

states that only varicoceles that can be

felt have been documented to be

associated with infertility

Not everyone agrees with that position, however.

Ultrasound of the scrotum can be used to

diagnose a smaller less obvious varicocele.

Some advanced types of ultrasound can even measure blood flow

in the veins of the scrotum.

So let's say you have infertility

and you have been diagnosed with a varicocele...

What can you do?

First

remember you might not have to do anything

Just because you have a

varicocele doesn't mean it is the cause for your infertility.

But if you do and

your doctor really believe your varicocele is causing a problem there

are a number of ways to try to get rid of it

The veins can be surgically removed or tied off

There is a method called embolization that avoids surgery

by injecting tiny particles in the veins and causing a blockage

that ends the abnormal blood flow

This is done with x-ray guidance

Finally, another alternative

instead of improving the sperm numbers

is to try to make better

use of a sperm that a guy does have

If his problem is mild an IUI or

intrauterine insemination can increase the number of sperm

that make it into the fallopian tubes where fertilization happens.

For guys with more severe sperm problems

IVF is a very effective treatment

Rapper Eazy E & the Details On His Death | Heavy.com - Duration: 5:42.

Rapper Eazy E & the Details On His Death | Heavy.com

On tonight's episode of Growing Up Hip Hop, Lil Eazy E looks into the details surrounding his father's murder.

It has long been reported that the former N.W.A frontman died from complications connected to AIDS, but Lil Eazy has started to question whether or not foul play was involved.

During a sneak peak for the episode, Lil Eazy sits down with Master P to discuss his father's death and his legacy.

"When you start digging up old stuff, you gotta watch out because you're just digging up stuff that you might not be prepared for," Master P warns him.

Learn more about the details surrounding Eazy E's death below.

Lil Eazy E Believes That There Was Foul Play Involved In His Father's Death.

Eazy E, born Eric Wright, gained fame as a solo artist and member of the rap group N.W.A during the late 1980s and 90s.

On February 24, 1995, he checked into a Los Angeles hospital for what he believed was a case of chronic asthma.

Doctors conducted tests and concluded he was HIV-positive.

On March 16, he issued a statement announcing his diagnosis to the public.

"I may not seem like a guy you'd pick to preach a sermon, but now I feel it's time to 'testify' because I do have folks that care about me hearing all kinds of stories about what's up," he wrote in the statement. "I've got thousands and thousands of young fans that have to learn what's real when it comes to AIDS.

Like the others before me, I would like to turn my problem into something good that will reach out to all my homeboys and their kin, because I want to save their asses before it's too late." Eazy died ten days later on March 26.

Lil Eazy's Brother Yung Eazy Has Publicly Accused Suge Knight of Infecting Their Father With HIV/AIDS.

     .

Many have felt that the rapid series of events leading up to Eazy's death are suspicious.

Chief among these skeptics are Eazy's own children.

The rapper's third son Yung Eazy, born Marquise Wright, believes that Death Row co-founder Suge Knight was behind Eazy's AIDS diagnosis.

Yung Eazy cited a 2003 interview that Knight gave to Jimmy Kimmel where he talked about hypothetically infecting someone with HIV.

"I've been known my pops was killed," he wrote on Instagram.

"His death never added up 2 what ppl have always said maybe they think we're idiots blind to the truth idk," he added.

"But 4 u new fans, youngsters & ppl who just don't know much notice in #StraightOuttaCompton, Eazy did not get sick until after the studio incident with Suge and look how he acknowledged & admits on this interview with #JimmyKimmel. Injecting ppl instead of shooting them is a new thing that's done.

The truth is out there its just blinded by the fact that Eric had a lot of sex.".

Lil Eazy E spoke to The Recollectors about losing his father at a young age. "Yeah, it was hard.

It was very hard.

That's true still today," he admitted.

"You gotta think—I didn't have anybody to teach me about what unprotected sex was, or what to do, you know what I mean? I was like, Oh wow, after you kinda get over the pain of losing a father and not having a father figure….

I played sports and didn't have a father to teach me how to throw a football or play football.".

Seth Meyers and Ina Garten Go Day Drinking and the Results Are Hilarious - News Today - Duration: 3:45.

Ina Garten likely won't forget sharing drinks with Seth Meyers, but same may not be true for the late night host

In a hilarious segment that aired on Wednesday's Late Night with Seth Meyers, the Barefoot Contessa joins Meyers for lots of cocktails and drinking games at the famed Corner Bistro restaurant in New York City

"We are going to have a refined afternoon of good conversations and some libations," says Meyers, before quickly chugging down a full Pimm's Cup

Get push notifications with news, features and more. Follow Following You'll get the latest updates on this topic in your browser notifications

"I'm in big trouble," Garten, who was slowly sipping on her drink, replies with a laugh

First up is a cocktail-making game. The two stars each make three of Garten's classic cocktail recipes (a Duke's Cosmopolitan, a Mai Tai and a Whiskey Sour) with a partition placed between them to "prove that I can make them just as well," says Meyers

Not surprisingly, the Food Network star follows her recipe closely while Meyers takes a more free-form approach to measuring

After making each drink, Meyers and Garten must taste each other's creations. "I'm scared," she jokes before sipping Meyers' Mai Tai and telling him "it's delicious

" He replies: "You know, you have a face you make that's a liar's face?" before chugging the cocktail down in seconds

Next, in a game called Don't Be a Dip, a tipsy and giggly Meyers is challenged to guess which dips are made with Garten's recipes and which come from fast food restaurants

In a third drinking game dubbed "Whose Feet Are These?", Meyers brings out a board with photos of Julia Roberts, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Aniston on it and asks Garten to match the bare feet to the celebrity

Finally, Meyers quizzes Garten, asking her to guess which chef has said each quote—and for every one she gets right, Meyers takes a shot—and by this time, they're both looking pretty tipsy (although, spoiler, one star more than the other)

To end their afternoon together, Meyers brings out a lopsided, three-tiered birthday cake for Garten, who turned 71 on Feb

2. "I used your recipe and made you a hot pink butter cake," he says before attempting and failing to write her name on it with frosting

"It takes practice," Garten reassures him. "I love my cake, thank you so much

The best birthday ever."  Watch the full video above.

The Orville S02E07: Photos & Spoilers from Deflectors | Heavy.com - Duration: 7:09.

The Orville S02E07: Photos & Spoilers from Deflectors | Heavy.com

The Orville isn't new tonight, so you might be wanting to learn more about next week's episode, Season 2 Episode 7, while we're on a hiatus.

(Don't worry, The Orville is coming back next week.) Read on for details about next week's episode.

Next week's episode airs on February 14.

It's called "Deflectors.".

And here are some photos from the promo, in case you want more clues about the upcoming episode.

In the promo, Ed tells the crew to "scan the surface for human bio signs.

And we see Isaac and John somewhere unfamiliar (but is that a drink advertisement in the background?) while John says, "Oh my god.

And Talla says, "This has to be the most insane thing that's ever happened on this ship.

" Obviously Talla is new, since a lot of crazy things have happened on The Orville.

It's interesting to note that the reactions from Kelly and Ed don't appear to be about Talla's comments, since it looks like they're in a different scene with a different background.

While this episode was being filmed, it was given the working title "Shields" until the name was changed in January.

Hey @jessicaszohr way to kill it this week on your Orville episode! — Seth MacFarlane (@SethMacFarlane) May 11, 2018    .

The episode finished filming on May 11, 2018, according to The Orville Wiki, and editing occurred in December.

While you're waiting for a new episode to air, here's a look at some of the dream guests that fans have said they'd love to see on The Orville.

Fans have said they'd love to see Nathan Fillion guest star in a role similar to Firefly.

They'd also like to see Michael Dorn star as Bortus' disapproving father.

(This is an inspired idea!) And Jeffrey Combs, who has appeared in so many Star Trek series it's tough to keep track, would make a great guest star.

(This one feels like a requirement.) We do know that Marina Sirtis, who played Counselor Troi, will be appearing as a guest star sometime this season with Jonathan Frakes directing.

That's going to be an amazing episode, no doubt.

Kate Mulgrew would be a great addition to the show one day, too.

Last week's episode was so great, we can't wait to see what the show has in store next week.

PhD Candidate, Travis Franks - "Remaking Contact" - Duration: 32:02.

Thank you all for being here this afternoon

Before I begin, I'd like to acknowledge that we're meeting on Tohono O'odham homeland, and as a visitor

I'd like to pay my respects to their elders' past,

present, and emerging.

My presentation

revolves around the politics of

the same kind of acknowledgement that I've just made,

only this time in contemporary Australia. The map here is meant to give you a sense of the diversity of

Aboriginal peoples on that continent, many of whom are multilingual.

There's a more interactive version of this map, with much greater resolution,

available at the website there at the bottom, and I'd recommend having a longer look at that when you get the chance.

I'm talking today about Kim Scott's

award-winning 2010 novel, That Deadman Dance, which takes place in Noongar country of present-day, Western Australia.

As you can see, the term Noongar refers to a broader collective of many distinct subgroups in the way that Anishinaabe and

Pueblo do in native North America.

The encircled area here depicts the novel's specific setting and the author's home, which is present-day Albany.

That Deadman Dance

resists the linear chronology of the typical plot summary. Most of the action takes place between

1826 and 1844, though this period is divided into a prologue and four other non-consecutive "parts" in the novel.

Further disrupting a linear chronology, scenes from protagonist Bobby Wabalinginy's later life intersperse the entire text,

regardless of the novel's 'parts,' so that the novel develops events contemporaneously in a given year-- say,

1836-- but also an elder Bobby's present time, the exact year of which is never stated.

Bobby is a storyteller

and Deadman is his story and so much as it is the story of the place that formed him and how Anglo

settlement gradually changed his home

Noongar and British settlers peacefully cohabitate for much of the novel, with some characters even forming intimate bonds of friend- and kinship.

Wunyeran and Dr. Cross form the strongest of these cross-cultural relationships,

though both men meet untimely deaths because of a pervasive illness that significantly reduces the Noongar

population. The two men are buried together, a symbolic representation of the novel's central arguments that, one,

Aboriginal and arrive at populations could have lived together in harmony

and, two, that Anglo-Australian colonization was not an inevitability but a deliberate process.

Bobby embodies the possibility of syncretism that exists between the two cultures that he uses language to mediate.

Other forces are at work,

however and King George Town's expansion from temporary military garrison to permanent settlement hastens the deterioration of

Indigenous-settler relationships.

Geordie Chaine and his employees play a central role in this process, as the unscrupulous Chaine and amasses more and more capital through smuggling,

overharvesting of the whale population, and even arranging his daughter's marriage to a politically powerful suitor

He is aided in many of these endeavors by Skelly, a former convict and master craftsman who harbors deep resentment toward the Noongar people,

increasingly exploiting the power he derives as Chaine's employee to enact a litany of

physical, sexual, and emotional abuses.

Bobby remains hopeful throughout the novel that the settlers will honor Noongar sovereignty and their cultural protocols for reciprocity,

particularly sharing resources after settler capitalism has disrupted Noongar foodways.

Bobby makes the final plea to Chaine and company in one of his trademark elaborate performances,

only to be shunned by those whom he assumed to be his friends and extended family.

His despair over having failed for the first time as a storyteller is compounded when, in the novel's closing sentences,

it is implied that police shoot the two of the remaining Noongar elders still active in the novel, Menak and Manit.

My reading of That Deadman Dance suggests that the novel must be understood in the political and cultural

contexts during which it was produced

(the first decade of the 21st century) and not only those in which it is said (the early to mid 19th century).

This marks a departure from previous readings to treat Deadman as a historical novel, and more specifically, a postcolonial

"contact" novel.

Instead, my analysis re-centers elements of Noongar cultural sovereignty evident throughout the text,

particularly in scenes depicting hospitality protocol,

welcoming rituals, and makarrata, a Yolngu word describing the process for finding just

resolutions to disputes through truth-telling and adherence to traditional Law.

In order to form to perform this analysis, I need to first provide an overview of contemporary Aboriginal-

settler political relations in Australia.

The advent of Australia's reconciliation agenda in the early 1990s coincides with

what has been termed the history wars

(which are not that unlike the so-called "culture wars" that occurred during the same period in the US).

Essentially, the history wars refer to conservative backlash toward

multiculturalism and the political left's growing tendency to speak more openly about colonial violence against indigenous people.

Those supporting the movement toward reconciliation

between settler and Aboriginal Australians were often derided for having taken a "black armband

view of history," or sorry, "a black arm band view of history," to which progressives countered by accusing

conservatives of wearing a "white blindfold" when looking at national history.

Writers soon began to take up the question of whether contemporary white Australian citizens should mourn or celebrate their country's past.

Within a decade,

there are enough reconciliation-themed creative works to suggest a new literary movement amongst Australian writers (as

evidenced by two critical monographs shown here).

There's a longer discussion to be had about differences between

settler author and indigenous authored

reconciliation narratives: what motivates them, what they accomplish, but in the interest of time, I'm gonna save that for later talks.

Reconciliation and/or recognition initiatives have occurred in the US and Canada during this same period, and, as in Canada and the US,

Australian reconciliation follows official policies of Extermination and Assimilation.

Australian reconciliation is unique and that the federal government has recognized Native Title land claims,

offered an official apology for child removal practices, and pursued constitutional reform to recognize the legal rights of

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Often framed as progressive developments that celebrate Australia's cultural diversity, these

Reconciliatory or conciliatory gestures have also come under criticism as examples of liberal

multiculturalism that subverts claims to indigenous sovereignty and

legitimizes settler state dominance.

So, I'm providing this timeline not to inundate you with information,

but to give you a sense of the rate at which major legal and social developments occurred,

(particularly throughout the 1990s) and you might prefer instead to look at the timeline on the back of your handout

instead of following along here.

The major points to note are the two high court rulings, which not only knowledge Native Title

officially disavowing the discovery doctrine of terra nullius,

but in the case of WIC ruled that Native Title and pastoral leases for agricultural production could coexist.

The 1997 Bringing Them Home report

addressed the traumatic experiences of members of the Stolen Generations, those children who were officially removed and

placed in boarding schools, and that

publication led to the inauguration of a national Sari Day the following year.

By contrast,

notice the rate at which significant developments slowdown within the 2000s. Now,

I suspect this is partly related to two events that happened in 2001: the first being what is now called the Tampa affair in which

several hundred refugees, mostly from Arab countries,

arrived in Australian international waters and demanded asylum, and the second of course being

what we call "9/11" now,

which dominated global politics for much of a decade.

This suggests to me the persistence of a certain misnomer in settler nations,

that indigenous issues are separate from and perhaps less important than issues of national security,

international diplomacy, and immigration regulation. It's important to also note that from 1996 to 2007,

conservative John Howard served as prime minister and either stymied or walked back some of the more progressive measures of the reconciliation

agenda. For instance, the Yorta Yorta ruling determined that Aboriginal peoples claim to Native Title can be extinguished

if the observance of traditional laws and customs of that country are substantially

interrupted, and that's precisely what settler colonialism does.

"Welcome to Country" and the closely-related "Acknowledgement of Country"

rituals refer to a recent phenomenon an Australian settler society of

ceremonially

acknowledging traditional ownership of colonized lands.

The primary distinction between Welcome and Acknowledgement rituals involve a speaker.

Welcomes can only be performed by recognized elders of the representative Aboriginal peoples

associated with the country upon which those events are taking place.

While acknowledgments, can be performed by any non-indigenous person or by an Aboriginal person not from that particular country.

These related rituals gained widespread acceptance as part of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's

reconciliation agenda, which included his much more discussed formal apology of the Stolen Generations in

2008.

As with apology, scholars working in Aboriginal and Australian Studies,

debate the degree to which Welcome and Acknowledgement ceremonies engender tokenistic

representations of Aboriginality under the guise of liberal multiculturalism.

Anthropologist Kristina

Everett has written about one of the more outrageous instances of such tokenism, in which the Darug people of western Sydney

have been routinely invited to deliver Welcome to Country speeches-speeches

even after their Native Title claims have been dismissed by the courts.

Without directly stating as such, these invitations imply that indigenous sovereignty is a symbolic

superficiality allowed to exist within the structures of state rule.

Despite their disagreements, scholars acknowledge that Aboriginal Elders often accept Welcome to Country invitations as a means of

formally stating opposition to the state's claim to place.

Curtis Roman states that he very rarely agrees to deliver Welcome speeches because of their conciliatory nature, though

he adds"Welcome to Country should be seen as an opportunity to take some

leadership and say something that can be or that can make a positive difference something that educates and initiates reflection."

Those of us working in Indigenous Studies in native North America

might think of such counterclaims into relation to what Kevin Bruyneel calls "the third space sovereignty" which he contends quote

"acknowledges the colonial imposition of boundaries on indigenous political

subjects while also showing how this location on the boundaries is... the site of practices that challenge colonial rule."

So in that spirit, my framing of That Deadman Dance isn't meant to suggest that at moments of content--

contact are not critically important to the history of settler indigenous relations. Rather,

I would suggest that Scott's novel makes legible the important distinction that indigenous sovereignties existed well before and

persist long after the arrival of settler colonizers.

As a quick aside, you might have noticed in one of the earlier--

I don't know if you can see it from that far away, but in the American version

or the American printing of the novel, Linda Hogan blurbs

in saying, "Never has a first contact story been so true and powerful."

We all know the nature of blurbs,

but I'm certainly not gonna stand here with a copy of mean spirit in my bag and

going to Oklahoma to give this talk

and say that Linda Hogan is not right about this being a contact narrative.

Rather, I read her endorsement of Scott's novel as being

more true and powerful to be a gesture of the shortcomings of first contact stories

that I'm thinking of here, right? How they inherently privileged the arrival of settlers as the origin point for temporal

narrative and social ordering that normalizes boundaries between settlers and indigenous peoples.

So, adapting this concept of welcoming as a critical lens for Deadman

rather than "contact," does not magically solve the problematic power dynamics of settler dominance.

It might even appear to merely repackage them giving the conciliatory politics of Welcome to Country rituals.

To avoid doing so, I suggest that the hospitality protocol described in Scott's novel will be understood, first, in terms of

Aboriginal sovereignty and, secondly, in relation to the concept of makarrata rather than the federal government's

reconciliation platforms.

From the very beginning of That Deadman

Dance, Scott

unsettles the primacy of Anglo arrival and first contact. The prologue is set in the most recent time during which the novel takes place,

with Bobby already advanced in age and living alone, on the beach, in a meager dwelling.

The section opens with Bobby speaking one word -- "Kaya"-- which readers quickly learn

translates to "hello" or yes" in his traditional

Noongar language.

Already, the novel has disrupted the linear chronology and settler centrality that typifies contact scenes, as the 'first

contact' to take place in the novel occurs between the reader and Bobby,

who offers us a traditional greeting-- a welcome of sorts.

The first contact between the novel's Noongar and Anglo characters also takes place in the prologue, though it to subverts the "collision of cultures"

motif generally associated with such narratives.

Basic elements of this scene might not initially seem too dissimilar from the conventions of a more traditional

contact novel, as readers witness an encounter between an Aborigine and an Anglo character meeting on a beach, the "first

frontier" that existed between Indigenous settler peoples. And there are certainly elements of intrusion and

potential violence underlying their exchange.

Bobby's been sitting alone upon the beach writing short phrases to himself on a piece of slate.

Chaine arrives unannounced but for the "heavy tread" of his steps, and "thrust[s] himself into the little hut" uninvited.

Bobby immediately notices that there is a "[h]ardy space for the two of them beneath this roof" and that if "Kongk breathes deep,

stands up straight, this shelter'll explode."

This contact scene also registers a number of marked differences between the two men.

Chaine embodies excess, in wealth and habit (he exudes the smell of rum and cigars) and physicality.

Bobby notes that Chaine hasn't just overcrowded the small space with his size,

he also "[steams] with rain and body heat and ruddy health."

He is seemingly overrun in bodily surplus, to the point that "water cascade[s] over the brim of his hat and

gushe[s] from his bristling beard."

Bobby, on the other hand, can "[feel] the cold seeping into his bones," which lie under his "loose and wrinkled skin."

The stark difference between the two men's bodies foreshadows settler Chaine's

capitalist accumulation and Bobby's loss of traditional culture, through readers will be unaware of these developments until much later in the novel.

Here, they merely appear to have a slightly uncomfortable intimacy between them.

It might be tempting to read the contrasts between Chaine and Bobby as evidence of the novel having fallen into one of the

traps of the contact form, the binary of savagism and civilization.

But even as Chaine disrupts Bobby's world, this isn't a collision between men who consider themselves enemies,

nor is it their first meeting.

Readers learn in a later chapter that the title 'kongk' refers to a "special uncle,"

meaning that, even though Chaine is a wealthy settler, Bobby regards him with some degree of familial respect and even adoration.

Bobby does appear diminished by comparison, bereft of basic comforts and with his body breaking down where Chaine's exudes vitality.

But Bobby is not the vanishing native

we've become familiar with through other contact narratives (such as Fenimore Cooper's The Leatherstocking Tales [which shows up twice in this book]);

in fact, he has an incredible generative power that manifests itself through his use of language:

"Life tingled in his very fingertips,"

the narrator tells us. Bobby keeps watch on the horizon while Chaine blusters about

(crumbling, farting, and telling his hosts that he ought to build a fire-- he's not a very good guest)

he leaves on account of not having seen any whales spouting.

Bobby narrates Chaine's leave-taking

on his piece of slate, writing "Kongk gon wailz cum."

No sooner than he's written these words,

Bobby sees them come to fruitition.

His inexorable strength as a storyteller is on full display here, as the prologue comes to a close with these words:

Bobby wrote and made it happen again and again in seasons to come, starting just now, here. Kaya.

Here, kaya seems to have a dual function, with Bobby perhaps greeting the returning whales in the same way in which he greeted readers, but also affirming that, yes,

Bobby has recorded an event that will be encountered by readers for generations to come. In this regard,

Bobby's language skills also serve to affirm the continuation of Noongar culture, as does Scott's novel.

Indeed, Scott incorporates Noongar protocol throughout Deadman, a technique especially evident in

passages in which non-Indigenous characters are welcome to Noongar country. The charismatic Wunyeran routinely mediates between

Noongar and British arrivants, acting both as a diplomat and negotiator.

Perhaps the most notable scene in which he performs these duties occurs when he trains his new friend Dr.

Cross to meet Menak in the proper way.

The narration describes Wunyeran as playfully "maneuvering" Cross toward the elder Noongar man, who

"held out a hand across the shrinking space between them.

Cross grasped it and Menak immediatley pulled him into embrace. He then lifted him from the ground and with his arms around Cross's waist

turned in a full circle. Eyeball to eyeball:

one man in a cloak of an animal skin, a hair belt, and with mud and grease smeared over his skin; the other

with only the flesh of his face and hands exposed

Menak released him and stepped back.

A booming-- a beaming Wunyeran gestured for cross to remove his jacket, than he unclapsed Menak's cloak and slid it from his shoulders.

He handed each man the other's attire.

The novel has by this point established that the particular form of embrace and ceremonial exchange of clothing are customary practices

amongst the Noongar people. In this instance, readers experience the ritual from the Englishman's point of view:

"The surprisingly soft and pliable

kangaroo skin hung easily from Cross's shoulders, enclosing him in the smell of another man, a very different man, of course,

but a man for all of that. Noongar,

he remembered.

The scent was not so much that of a body

but of sap and earth, the oils and ochres and who knew that else of this land."

Wunyeran and Cross demonstrate their mutual potential for cross-cultural understanding

here, both in the ways in which Wunyeran facilities the meeting and the way in which Cross's

participation in the intimate ritual reminds him of their shared humanity.

In other words, the first meeting between Menak and Cross is not so much about "profound difference" or cultural collision as it is about a

recognition of shared humanity and cross-cultural exchange.

The details with which Scott describes this scene further suggests that what readers experience here is not merely

contact between two different cultures

but the observance of proper welcoming protocol through an interpersonal Noongar ritual involving reciprocity.

Wunyeran's role in the formal introductions affirm his important standing amongst the Noongar people,

as only certain members are qualified to carry out a mediator's obligations.

Together, Wunyeran and Menak are also affirming their claim to belonging,

as the ritual is not only meant to introduce Cross to an important member of this Noongar group

but also as a means of negotiating a relationship between the visitor Cross and the Country.

The exchange of clothing suggests that Wunyeran and Menak are extending

hospitality to Cross by offering him a form of protection from the country to which they intimately belong.

Francesca Merlan explains that from a local ingenious point of view,...

introductions are protective, not simply 'welcoming' in the ordinary understanding of that word as 'kindly reception or greeting.'

There is a pervasive indigenous sensibility that the living country may present dangers to people unknown to it

and whose being is not intimately involved with it.

Therefore, practices [like garment exchange], as well as a local's addresses to ancestral beings

announcing who has come to visit, are understood to reduce that element of foreignness that might attract harm.

Merlan further notes that "people who perform these kinds of acts

assume that the country and its living forces are sensitive to smell,

that locals and non-locals can be distinguished, and the olfactory difference between them can be reduced by these small acts."

Cross first notices the feel of the kangaroo cloak,

yes,

but the smells associated with it are even more poignant- a scent that ir richly layered with elements of the

country ("of sap and earth... oils and ochres").

Thus, Wunyeran and Menak extend hospitality and

protection to their guest and, in the process, affirm their inherent right to do so as hosts on these lands.

Much of this cross-cultural goodwil will have been undone by the novel's tragic conclusion.

Wunyeran and Cross both succumb to illness, and while their shared burial site initially

signifies the bonds they worked to establish in their lifetimes, the grave's eventual desecration by town-planners

symbolizeds the breaking of those bonds as the greed of men like Chaine spurs on the settlement's 'progress.'

Settlers' unwillingness to honor Noongar protocols for reciprocity

compounds the unrest developing around Chaine's

institutionalization of market capitalism through resource exhaustion and labor exploitation.

Foodways have been disrupted by

overpopulation and overhunting, and when Bobby

Menak, and their countrymen are denied a share of settlers' sheep and imported goods to which they are entitled by traditional protocol,

the Noongar begin taking food without Chaine's permission.

Bobby is eventually jailed for these offenses,

but during an informal trial he reveals having witnessed Chaine murder two

Aboriginal servants indentured to the colony's governor.

In exchange or a signed testimony that (unbeknownst to him)

excuses Chaine for any wrongdoing,

Bobby is granted a small audience with settlers for whom he performs what is essentially a makarrata ceremony.

Now, I borrow the term 'makarrata' from the Uluru Statement from the Heart, issued by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

--excuse me, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

delegates of the Referendum Council at the 2017 National Constitution Convention

Which was held at Uluru, a sacred site for many Aboriginal Australians. In that statement,

council delegates define makarrata as "the coming together after a struggle."

More specifically, the term refers to

ceremonial practices meant to end disputes and ensure that grudges do not persist into the future.

Now, this can but does not always involve spearing a perpetrator or a member of the offending in the thigh-

but that is the case with Skelly in the novel, and that's why he hates the Noongar.

In the Ulura statement, delegates call for the establishment

of a Makarrata Comission to "supervise a process of agreement-making... and truth-telling about our history."

Now, this differs from the majority of the federal government's Reconciliation measures-from Native Title legislation to Welcome and Acknowledgement of Country rituals-

In that makarrata insists on inherent Aboriginal sovereignty and the right to negotiate

outside the strictures of imperial rule brought to Country via settler invasion.

Makarrata remakes reconciliation

from a settler-centric process of recognition into reciprocal process of

renegotiation.

Bobby clearly understands his performance toward the end of the novel in this sense, as he

lightheartedly teases the doubting Menak and Manit: "Hadn't he escaped the lockup from a few words on paper?" he asks them

"Child's play. What was that against dance and song?"

Intending to "show them how people must live here, together,"

Bobby gently scolds the settlers for their unwillingness to adapt to Noongar Law.

Narrating his own dance,

he observes that "some people come to live here, and wanna stay like they never moved away from their own place,"

He reminds them of the "need to be inside the sound of spirit of [the place] to live here properly."

"How can that be," he asks the settlers, "without we people who have been here for all time?"

In his final address to the audience, he simultaneously

reasserts his sovereign authority and the reciprocal nature of Noongar hospitality: "This is my land," he states,

"give me the Kongk Menak. We will share it with you, and share what you bring."

Bobby's performance does the work of the makarrata in that it affirms Aboriginal belonging,

involves truth-telling about wrongs that have been committed (in contrast to the way in which his signed confession

obscures the truth), and offers a peaceful resolution in order to restore harmony moving forward.

His performance proves unsuccessful, as most of the audience leaves the meeting without comment.

As they make their departure, Bobby overhears the gunfire suggesting that the elders Menak and Manit have been shot in the book's final sentence.

Bobby's profound sense of loss at the novel's conclusion transports readers back to the epilogue,

explaining his bitterness and destitution, as well as the distance that exists between himself and Chaine later in life.

Familiar genre conventions of historical novels suggest that the conclusion of Deadman should be read as the story's inevitable outcome,

thus aligning the novel with conventions of Australia's archetypal contact narrative.

Bobby's greeting to readers-kaya - as well as the revelation that he has recorded King George Town's settlement history in a journal

challenges such readings.

Despite all that has transpired, Bobby retains the power to welcome visitors o his ancestral Country

and the ability to translate his history into a medium white audiences are more likely to understand than traditional song and dance.

In this way,

Bobby's story and Scott's novel are doing similar work to that of many Elders offering Welcome to Country speeches, as well as the

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander delegates of the Referendum Council who met at Uluru in 2017. Each of these examples

suggests that Aborigines' claims to belonging have not been extinguished by

Australian settler colonialism, and that such claims do not originate from the authority of settler government.

Many of the themes found in works by Aboriginal Australians are also at play in the literature of

Native North America, and there are ample opportunities for relational resesarch at coursework.

in concluding this presentation,

I'd like to discuss educational resources and potential courses that go beyond the scope of my specific research into Scott's novel.

First, I want to draw your attention to the AusLit Database, the premiere digital humanities exhibition and online resource for the study of

Australia's literary traditions. During my Fulbright Fellowship of 2017,

I interned for AusLit and developed an exhibition on Australian literature around settler colonialism, which includes an annotated bibliography of

creative and scholarly works, a

timeline of key events and publications, a glossary of critical terms, and units on themes and motifs for comparative analysis.

Now, what this particular exhibition is geared towards teaching undergraduate students interested in relational analysis between the U.S. and Australia

AusLit's special collection, BlackWords, is both comprehensive and detailed enough to support graduate level research on

Aboriginal Australian prose, poetry, film, and music.

I'm still working with AusLit as a Content Developer and would equally pursue

opportunities for collaboration with colleagues, graduate students, and affiliated programs

interested in Indigenous digital humanities.

I've prepared a few sample syllabi that demonstrate how I would develop specific courses on or integrate Aboriginal Australian texts into

courses offered that also encompass native North America.

I'm particularly interested in offering a course that brings together Indigenous scholarship on sovereignty and

reconciliation with creative works by Native artists in Australia, the U.S. and, Canada.

I'm thinking here of scholarship by Aileen Moreton-Robinson and Larissa Behrendt, Audra

Simpson, Jody Berg, Taiaiake Alfred, and Glen Coulthard.

I'm interested in how works like Layli Long Soldier's poetry collection Whereas, (which responds to an overlooked piece of

2000-2009) legislation formally apologizing to Indigenous Americans) can be placed into conversation with Behrendt's

documentary After the Apology, which chronicles for Aboriginal grandmothers' struggle against child removal a

decade after Rudd's public apology to the Stolen Generations.

Other creative works would include in the US Stephen Graham Jone's The Bird Is Gone, from Austrailia

Kim Scott's most recent novel Taboo, and from Canada Tracey Linberg's Birdie

for the ways of which they frame issues of land rights around historical trauma in relation to the lived experiences of contemporary Indigenous peoples.

These works are particularly interesting because they imagine individual

reconciliation through self-discovery and healing that take place within and outside of the parameters of settler society.

Once again, I think you've being here this afternoon, and I'd like to open the conversation up now to any questions.

And if not,

what is the cause of the difference in conditions

Many years ago,

feeling that there must be a logical answer

protest that he does all the work,

gets the short end of the money,

and will someday quit his job and find a real one.

And President Bondom in his private sanctum,

voices a bitter tirade against the annual attack of hay fever.

At home,

it is much the same.

Last evening,

father declared that daughter Mabel was headed

straight for disaster.

And today,

mother's allowance problem and other trying

affairs fade into insignificance as she exclaims,

"This is the last straw!

Robert's schoolteacher wants to see me this afternoon.

His reports are terrible,

I know!

But I'm late for bridge now.

She'll have to wait until tomorrow."

So goes the endless stream of expressions

like these from millions of people in all classes,

who give no thought to what they really want,

and who are getting all they are entitled to or expect.

If you're one of these millions of thoughtless talkers

or wishers and would like a decided

change from your present condition,

you can have it.

But first of all you must know what you want.

And this is no easy task.

When you can train your objective mind,

the mind you use every day to decide definitely upon

the things or conditions you desire,

you will have taken your first big step in accomplishing

or securing what you know you want.

To get what you want is no more mysterious

or uncertain than the radio waves all around you.

Tune in correctly,

and you get a perfect result.

But to do this,

it is of course necessary to know something

of your equipment and have a plan of operation.

You have within you a mighty power,

anxious and willing to serve you.

A power capable of giving you that which you earnestly

desire.

This power is described by Thompson J. Hutson PHD LLD,

author of the Law Of Psychic Phenomena,

as your subjective mind.

Other learned writers use different names and terms,

but all agree that it is omnipotent.

Therefore,

I call this power Emanuelle.

God in us.

Regardless of the name of the great power

or the conscious admission of a God,

the power is capable and willing to carry

to a complete and perfect conclusion,

every earnest desire of your objective mind.

But you must be really in earnest about what you want.

Occasional wishing or half hearted wanting does not form

a perfect connection or communication with your

omnipotent power.

You must be in earnest,

sincerely and truthfully desiring

certain conditions or things mental,

physical or spiritual.

Your objective mind and will are so vacillating

that you usually only wish for things,

and the wonderful capable power within you does

not function.

Most wishes are simply vocal expressions.

Jimmy the office boy gave no thought of possessing

the red roadster.

Landon,

the salesman,

was not thinking of any other job or even thinking at all.

President Bondom knew he had hay fever and was expecting it.

Father's business was quite successful and mother no

doubt brought home first prize from the bridge party that day.

But they had no fixed idea of what they really wanted

their children to accomplish and were actually helping

to bring about the unhappy conditions which existed.

If you are in earnest about changing your present condition,

here is a concise,

definite,

resultfull plan with rules,

explanations,

and suggestions.

The plan.

Write down on paper in order of their importance the things

and conditions you really want.

Do not be afraid of wanting too much.

Go the Limit in writing down your wants.

Change the list daily,

adding to or taking from it,

until you have it about right.

Do not be discouraged on account of changes,

as this is natural.

There will always be changes and additions

with accomplishments and increasing desires.

Three positive rules of accomplishment.

One.

Read the list of what you want three times each day.

Morning,

noon,

and night.

Two.

Think of what you want as often as possible.

Three.

Do not talk to anyone about your plan except to the great

power within you which will unfold to your objective mind

the method of accomplishment.

It is obvious that you cannot acquire faith at the start.

Some of your desires,

from all practical reasoning,

may seem positively unattainable.

But nevertheless,

write them down on your list in their proper

place of importance to you.

There is no need to analyze how this power within

you is going to accomplish your desires.

Such a procedure is as unnecessary as trying

to figure out why a grain of corn placed in fertile

soil shoots up a green stalk,

blossoms,

and produces an ear of corn containing hundreds of grains,

each capable of doing what the one grain did.

If you will follow this definite plan and carry

out the three simple rules,

the method of accomplishment will unfold

quite as mysteriously as the ear of corn appears on the stalk.

And in most cases,

much sooner than you expect.

When new desires deserving position at or about the top

of your list come to you,

then you may rest assured you are progressing correctly.

Removing from your list items which at first

you thought you wanted is another sure

indication of progress.

It is natural to be skeptical and have doubts,

distrust and questionings,

but when these thoughts arise,

get out your list.

Read it over.

Or if you have it memorized,

talk to your inner self about your desires until

the doubts that interfere with your progress are gone.

Remember,

nothing can prevent your having that which you earnestly desire.

Others have these things.

Why not you?

The omnipotent power within you does not enter

into any controversial argument.

It is waiting and willing to serve when you are ready.

But your objective mind is so susceptible

to suggestion that it is almost impossible

to make any satisfactory progress when surrounded

by skeptics.

Therefore,

choose your friends carefully and associate

with people who now have some of the things you really want,

but do not discuss your method of accomplishment

with them.

Put down on your list of wants such material things as money,

home,

automobile,

or whatever it may be,

but do not stop there.

Be more definite.

If you want an automobile,

decide what kind,

style,

price,

color,

and all the other details including when you want it.

If you want a home,

plan the structure,

grounds,

and furnishings,

decide on location and cost.

If you want money,

write down the amount.

If you want to break a record in your business,

put it down.

It may be a sales record.

If so,

write out the total,

the date required,

then the number of items you must sell to make it.

Also list your prospects and put after

each name the sum expected.

This may seem very foolish at first,

but you can never realize your desires if you do not

know positively and in detail what you want

and when you want it.

If you cannot decide this,

you were not in earnest.

You must be definite.

And when you are,

results will be surprising and almost

unbelievable.

A natural and ancient enemy will no doubt

appear when you get your first taste of accomplishment.

This enemy is discredit,

and form of such thoughts as,

"it can't be possible…

it just happened to be…

what a remarkable coincidence."

When such thoughts occur,

give thanks and assert credit to your omnipotent

power for the accomplishment.

By doing this,

you gain assurance and more accomplishment,

and in time,

prove to yourself that there is a law

which actually works at all times when you are in tune

with it.

Sincere and earnest things cannot be given

without gratitude.

And it is impossible to be thankful and grateful

without being happy.

Therefore,

when you are thanking your greatest and best friend,

your omnipotent power,

for the gifts received,

do so with all your soul and let it be reflected in your face.

The power and what it does is beyond understanding.

Do not try to understand it but accept the accomplishment

with thankfulness,

happiness,

and strengthened faith.

Caution.

It is possible to want and obtain that which will

make you miserable.

That which will wreck the happiness of others.

That which will cause sickness and death.

That which will rob you of eternal life.

You can have what you want but you must

take all that goes with it.

So in planning your wants,

plan that which you are sure will

give to you and your fellow man the greatest good here on Earth,

thus paving the way to that future hope beyond

the pale of human understanding.

This method of securing what you want applies

to everything you're capable of desiring,

and the scope being so great,

it is suggested that your first list consist of only

those things with which you are quite

familiar such as an amount of money or accomplishment

or the possession of material things.

Such desires as these are more easily

and quickly obtained than the discontinuous

of fixed habits,

the welfare of others,

and the healing of mental or bodily ills.

Accomplish the lesser things first,

then take the next step.

And when that is accomplished,

you will seek the higher and really

important objectives in life.

But long before you reach this stage of your progress,

many worthwhile desires will find their place on your list.

One will be to help others as you have been helped.

Great is the reward to those who help and give

without thought of self,

as it is impossible to be unselfish without gain.

In conclusion,

a short while ago,

Dr.

Emile Koo came to this country and showed thousands of people

how to heal themselves.

Thousands of others spoofed at the idea,

refused his assistance,

and are today where they were before his visit.

So with the statements and plan presented to you now,

you can reject or accept.

You can remain as you are or have

anything you want.

The choice is yours.

But God grant that you may find in this short volume

the inspiration to choose a right.

Follow the plan and thereby obtain,

as so many others have,

all things whatever they may be that you desire.

Read the entire book over again and again and then again.

Memorize the three simple rules.

Test them now on what you want most this minute.

This book could have extended easily over 350 pages,

but it has been deliberately shortened to make it as easy

as possible for you to read,

understand,

and use.

Will you try it?

Thousands of bettered lives will testify to the fact

that it works.

A letter to you from the author.

Dear Reader.

The great possessions of life are all gifts

mysteriously bestowed.

Sight.

Hearing.

Aspiration.

Love.

Or life itself.

The same is true of ideas.

The richest of them are given to us

as for instance the powerful idea which this book

has given you.

What are you going to do with it?

Are you surprised when I tell you the most profitable thing

you can do is to give it away?

You can do this in an easy and practical

way by having this book sent to those you know who need it.

In this way you can help in the distribution

of this worthwhile effort to make the lives

of others better and happier.

You know people who are standing still

or who are worried and discouraged.

This is your chance to help them help themselves.

If you withhold this book from them you will lose

the conscious satisfaction that comes from doing good.

If you see that they get this book,

then you put yourself in line with the Law of Life,

which says,

you get by giving.

And you may rightly expect prosperity and achievement.

At the very least,

you will have the inner sense of having

done a good deed,

with no hope of being openly thanked,

and your reward will come secretly,

and added power,

and larger life.

The author.
