Street Photography and Portraits with the 24-70mm f/2.8 - Duration: 10:55.

it's our first full day here in Crete Greece and I've got two things that I

need to take care of today or two things I wanted to take care of today the first

is I want to go get wheels I want to try to find a scooter or a quad or something

that I can rent for the month so I can get around and the second thing is I

want to shoot some street photography so I'm gonna go take care of the first bit

now let's go try to find some wheels

Jodie and I wandered around a rack Leon yesterday for quite a while and I think

we've realized at least a couple things about this place we've realized that one

there's gonna be some good food weight yesterday and it was just unreal the

food was so good - there's a ton a ton of really cool cafes and third of all I

think it's actually more photogenic than I expected I kind of planned on this

being my base and then just getting out and exploring other places but the more

I walk around the more I see potential for things like street photography and

landscape photography and architecture so I'm gonna have some fun here with the

photography hopefully I don't get fat from all the great food and yeah I'm

excited

yesterday I sent out a thousand emails to people trying to find scooters and

quads and a company called Motor Club offered me a really really good deal on

a quad or scooter so I'm gonna go down and check it out and yeah see what we

come up with I'm excited excited to have wheels excited to keep exploring and

yeah just excited to be here in the Greek islands

the quadbikes here big thanks again to motor club for hooking me up with a

massive discount I was actually a little bit concerned because I've read online

that I wasn't able to rent a scooter here in Greece anymore - and Jodie's trying

to steal the quad - rules have changed here saying that you can't drive

scooters as a foreigner without an IDP and I guess for whatever reason quads

and small cars are exempt so I did end up getting a vehicle I thought that I

wasn't gonna be able to get around and I was stressed so Motor Club helped me out

yeah I think we're gonna leave the scooter now it's late afternoon we're

gonna go around and I've got the 24-70mm f2.8 on and we're just

gonna go round cruise and you know try to get a couple photos as I mentioned in

Georgia when I first get to a destination I kind of like to walk

around no tripod maybe just one lens on and try to just capture some street life

and have no pressure on the photos and just go out and wander so that's what's

so we're sitting under there like city wall and it's awesome under here

actually one of the other gates I prefer but this is still cool what I'm trying

to do is kind of beginner level stuff panning I'm trying to pan there's like a

nice frame from one of the gates in here and I'm trying to get a scooter on the

other side of the gate in the panning technique and essentially panning is is

you're just moving the camera with the motion of whatever is moving and that

way you get motion in everything behind it the buildings the frame the

background the foreground everything kind of looks in motion but the scooter

is sharp and in focus and in a way it adds motion to the scooter even though

it's actually the buildings that are moving but basically as soon as we set

up here there haven't been any scooters so we're gonna sit and wait for a one

second or two seconds actually there's a old lady coming across

I think she's gonna walk right into this frame this could actually work better

than the scooters and we'll wait for one scooter to come through

come on scooters so I think one's coming I've free framed pre-focus and I'm just

gonna follow and fire

yeah it's okay it's nothing special let's move on so we're staying up in

like kind of almost like the real Heraklion. no tourists are up there

except for us really and we've just come down into the old town this is maybe the

busiest part of old town here and yeah it's trying to get some shots the one

thing I find funny is I heated the 24-70mm for years just because it's a very

standard focal length and as we're walking around today nothing's changed I

thought that I hate it there's not that I hate it it's just that every single

time I take a photo with this camera with this lens it just it feels normal

it looks normal maybe that says a lot more about me in my photography skills

then the lens but yeah nothing I haven't taken anything that I love yet and I'm

gonna blame it all on the lens for now

so if one was given up on the street photos but there's this incredible light

coming through one of these buildings here and it's pretty head-on but I think

that it'll make for some awesome portraits with Jodie and her awesome

glasses so I'm gonna shoot a portrait or two kind of using this frame created by

yet by frames this is kind of where I get into a bit of a zone shooting

pictures just I love frames like this and I love light like this and I love

having a beautiful model like this this just makes everything work so I'm gonna

get Jodie now up here on this frame direct sunlight in the back

I'm gonna over expose everything probably by two stops to what my meter

says and I blow it out f/2.8 should look cool

I've made it down to the port and I'm actually gonna come here at sunrise two

more to shoot some pictures and probably sunrise a couple days and maybe even

some sunsets because it's awesome down here there's people running into me

apparently there there's the port here great back this way and you can see the

city walls are there for the coolest part is this wave break leads out to

this castle and it's just beautiful the Sun setting right now there's some

soft light I'd love to have a camera and tripod out right now but these first

days I just have to remind myself that I'm just exploring and that's half the

fun I'll have plenty of opportunity to come shoot this

this dream photography didn't really happen not for a lack of opportunity

just kind of we have we were wandering around enjoying things and that's kind

of that's the whole point of it it was a productive day we got the quad bike

Jodie's seen sunglasses she likes and yeah we was good it was a really really

really good day the 24-70mm f/2.8

I still really have to get used to it I have to

learn to love it it's great for portraits I really do like it for like

simple portraits but other than that I think it just always looks too standard

for me it looks too normal for me so it is gonna be something that over time

I'll probably get better and better at I've never ever had a standard zoom lens

like a 24-70mm ever in my life so like anything it's just practice and getting

used to your gear that's it for today tomorrow I'm getting up at sunrise

heading down to the port there and hopefully taking some cool travel photos

or landscape photos we'll see what happens when we get there and I'll see

you guys tomorrow peace

BluMaan Monarch Matte Paste vs. Label M Matt Paste | Brand Battle - Duration: 7:06.

BluMaan's Monarch Matte Paste versus Label M's Matt Paste.

This is Brand Battle.

Hi guys, I'm Robin and welcome to Brand Battle; the first actually in series three.

We're back and we've got some exciting ones coming up.

Now, if you're wondering what Brand Battle is, this is the series that puts two competing

products head-to-head in the ultimate showdown.

Now in this Brand Battle, there are 20 points in total up for grabs.

Now, we know that not all categories are as important as the other and the point system

will reflect this.

Now, BluMaan's Monarch Matte Paste is the newest release from the BluMaan line.

This one says high hold and matte finish.

Then it's the Label M's Matt Paste which is from Label M's professional hair care line.

This one says ultra matte texture for dishevelled light styles.

Looking into the ingredients, both products are water-based and they both have various

claims about what they do to our hair and our scalp, the good stuff; always the good

stuff.

They never mention the bad stuff!

But they both contain Shea butter and also contain kaolin, which is a type of clay.

The BluMaan one also contains bentonite.

And actually, as you'll see in the ingredients, the BluMaan product is slightly more weighted

to clay whereas the Label M one is slightly more weighted the tiniest bit towards wax.

Now, packaging doesn't really bother me and as you'll see here the point will reflect

this.

The BluMaan product is much like all their other products before.

It comes in this little box.

It's all about this little animal thing, but they've got this sort of plain tub with a

sticker on it.

It's fine but it doesn't blow my mind and it doesn't feel premium, versus the Label

M one which again is actually fairly simple.

It's slightly more, I would say mature in its look and certainly more premium.

So the point goes to the Label M. Smell is another aesthetic thing which I don't

think we should worry ourselves about too much and there's actually not much in it here.

The BluMaan product definitely has a scent.

It's very light but I don't particularly know what it is versus the Label M one which again,

it's a really light scent.

It's inoffensive.

It's slightly lemony and citrusy and I just prefer it a tiny bit more.

So the point goes to Label M. The BluMaan product is so creamy, so light, really easy

to scoop out versus the Label M one, it's actually slightly tougher.

It has a slight stickiness to it and it has a slight sort of, I would say chalkiness to

it.

So the point goes to BluMaan.

Now, the BluMaan product goes through the hair, absolutely no bother.

Like it's consistency it's really, really creamy, very easily distributed versus the

Label M one which just has slightly more tug and stickiness to it.

So the points go to BluMaan.

Now in styling, I'm also kind of looking at how versatile these products are.

How many different styles can you do?

And each of them can sort of give the volume and the sort of everyday style versus the

one I've got right now which is more of a slicked back, more voluminous, more volume

in the hair.

And I've got to say, the BluMaan one, I find in the times I used it, in order to get more

of a result I do you have to layer it.

So I put it into my hair.

I'll work through then I'll do another layer versus the Label M product which for me is

just so responsive.

Whatever I want it to do it will.

Up, down, texturised; it's a dream.

So the points for this one go to Label M. Now, into finish, both products should be

matte, but I found actually because I have been layering the product and I definitely

need to layer it, the BluMaan product has the tiniest bit of gloss to it.

Also, I do find that when I've been using this, my hair sometimes kind of goes into

strands.

It doesn't look nearly as natural as the Label M product which really does go in it.

It sits.

It has volume.

It has a great matte finish and that's exactly why Label M wins these points.

Now I should say with hold, both of these products with and without hairspray actually

have a really good hold.

Both of them are reworkable and actually, I have some clips here; you'll remember some

of these from the reviews.

Not bad at all.

It just bounced straight back in and I kind of like that I can just mess with that.

Nine hours in my hair; nine hours no hairspray and I am impressed.

It has been dropping throughout the day as to be expected but I've just kind of voomfed

it back into place.

Now I really wanted to split the points here because they actually both have done a really

good job but there is one which has done slightly better just because it's given more of a sort

of matte look, it still has texture, it's slightly more reworkable.

So I'm going to give one point to BluMaan and three points to Label M.

Now it's no surprise that they both washed out so easily.

I mean, no need for shampoo.

But there is one which I think just has the edge on the other one.

It just feels slightly cleaner when you're washing with water.

So the points go to BluMaan.

Now, I'm calling this 'Price & Value' because really, it could be the world's most

expensive product, but if it's the world's best product then it has value and it's worth

it.

So, looking here, the one thing you'll see is the BluMaan product is not readily available.

You're really going to have to search for that.

They have preorder on it the moment, again, on the site versus the Label M one which is

so readily available.

It's absolutely everywhere and I have linked the places down below.

Also, the Label M one is quite often on offer.

They have two sizes, a 50 ml and a 120 ml.

And the BluMaan one, if you're ordering from their site, the postage and packaging is ridiculous.

It's literally ridiculous.

The postage and packaging for me cost 12.95, that's dollars.

It has gone down to 8.95.

And I would say, when it arrives in this without a note and nothing else, this is not 12.95.

So I would say, really, price and value, very easily, the points go to Label M.

So my verdict; we have six points for BluMaan versus 14 points for Label M so really a very

clear winner with the Label M Matt Paste.

It's easy to use, it's great to style with, it's reworkable, it's really versatile; you

get great volume and texture.

But I would say, this actually, out of the BluMaan products is probably my favorite out

of their line.

But if you are looking for a matte paste, there are no queues, there's no preorder,

this is your one here.

Waldorf vs. Montessori Education: What's the Difference? - Duration: 8:40.

Hello! Welcome to another Sunday with Sarah. I'm Sarah Baldwin. I'm a Waldorf

early childhood teacher, I'm the author of a book called "Nurturing Children and

Families" and I'm now the owner of Bella Luna Toys. We sell Waldorf toys and

wooden toys, natural toys. We sell to a lot of Waldorf schools and parents and

families but we also sell to a lot of Montessori families. Today I'm here

to talk to you about a question I get asked a lot: "what is the difference

between Waldorf education and Montessori education?" I'll start off the bat by

saying I'm not an expert in Montessori education. I don't pretend to be. I have

good friends who are Montessori teachers and I almost took a job in a Montessori

school because I love the director of the school so much but my heart was

really with Waldorf education, that's where my expertise lay. But I just wanted

to share a story with you based on my own personal observation spending a

morning in a Montessori classroom, the things that struck me about what was

different in an early childhood setting—we're talking about preschool,

kindergarten, ages 3-6. So it was a beautiful classroom, much like a

Waldorf classroom, with all natural materials, a lot of wood, beautiful

children, healthy children. One thing I can tell you that I know is that Maria

Montessori, who founded Montessori education, and Rudolf Steiner, the founder of

Waldorf education, both were trying to educate the whole child. In Waldorf we

say "head, heart, hands" and I believe Maria Montessori who was a doctor wanted to

educate a child's mind and spirit. So that's one thing they have in common. But

as I observed the play I noticed that in the Montessori classroom there

are toys on shelves, a lot of them were on trays, and what I know, what I

learned and what I observed was children were very independent and during the

free play time—that's another difference we'll get to, play versus work—

but a child would take a tray and there would be an activity, usually working

on some skill or another, whether cognitive or fine motor skills and I

could recognize the value in that, and they would do the task and put it

back on the tray and put it away when they were done and then the child was

free to choose another activity.

One thing I observed during that portion of

the morning was the difference during free play. In a Waldorf classroom

it might seem a little more like a free-for-all because the children really—

we call it "play" and we believe that play is the heart of early childhood and the

key to creative thinking later in life. So the emphasis in Waldorf is on

imagination and play. In a Montessori School it was called "work" and, true story,

I was out to dinner with friends last night and one of them, actually several

of them, sent their children to Montessori schools and liked the fact

that it was called "work" because it was enjoyable and they enjoyed their work

and gave the child the idea that work is fun, which i think is great.

However, we call it "play" in Waldorf and during free play the children are really

free to move around the room. It's a lot more social, I think. Children play

together, make stories, make scenes together and they're flowing in and out

and now they're firefighters and now they're knights slaying a dragon and now

they're having a tea party in the kitchen and the groups would form. I saw a

lot more independent play in the Montessori classroom, children choosing

their own activities, including at snack time where one of the activities

children could choose in the classroom I visited—I'm not saying this is true in

every classroom, I know there are a lot of variations—but having snack was

something I observed children doing independently when they were ready or

sitting down and sitting at a table having a snack by themselves. In my

Waldorf classroom, or I think any Waldorf early child setting, having

snack together, eating together is the heart of the morning. When the children come

in the morning, we're chopping vegetables or kneading dough for bread that day and

all leading up to the meal we will share together and sit down together and

practice waiting to be served and practice serving and practicing our

manners. Which reminds me of another activity I observed that day in the

classroom: one activity was a child took a tray and there was a bar of

soap and a cheese grater and the child grated and grated this to makes soap

flakes and then put the soap flakes in a bowl and added water and then took

an egg beater and beat the soap flakes into bubbles and foam. When

she was done then she went to the bathroom and dumped it all in the toilet

and put everything away on the tray and put it away and went on to the next

activity. As I observed her I thought "Huh, that's interesting." Those are all

really great activities for young children. It's really building those fine

motor skills, grating and then the transformation—that's an early science

lesson, the transformation of substances. You watch the soap and the water mix

together and become foamy bubbles. I thought, in my classroom we use a grater.

We use it to grate carrots for our snack, which we would have with rice and soy

sauce that day. And we use an eggbeater to beat eggs when it's a child's birthday.

When it was a child's birthday we'd make a cake for the birthday child and start

out by beating the eggs. And then I thought in Waldorf education we're using

the same tools but we're doing real work for a real purpose. That just struck me

and it's always stayed with me.

Anyway, just wanted to share that story with you. It's not about good school

versus bad school at all because there's Montessori, there's Waldorf, there

are a lot of excellent, high quality programs out there. But if you're

searching, if you're looking and just curious about the differences I thought

I'd share that story with you and hope it sheds some light. I'm sure this will

generate a lot of comments. I would welcome hearing from Montessori teachers

more about their comments on what I've described here. I hope that helps.
