in the latest sunshine and rainbows video from the Dollar Tree you know what

this means makeover time let's do some nails

all right Bug, so which ones are you gonna pick for today I'm gonna take this

one so you picked the one that has the tropical vibe good choice I think I will

pick the sweet treat stickers and we'll save these for another time okay let's

see which stickers should I choose first I think I'm gonna try this awesome cake

on a pedestal and we'll put it right there okay so now which one do you think

we should choose next which shall we put on this

I think for the next one we should do one the candy hearts that works so we

should do a smaller one I guess two candies would look good okay super sweet

is Cutie. all right let's do the other hand and Sweetie with hi there sweetie

with the pie sweet only three more to go next one I'm going to put on these these

two little cakes oh those are cute so we're coming along it's all right perf-

perfect fit and last ..Mr ring finger Mr. Ring Finger is going to get a little

lollipop surprise it's already going on oh I am love these stickers aren't they

cute especially with the painted nails oh it's in the middle look at that so there they

are all sweetened up those are awesome we have lots more to save for another

are the nail stickers that Bug picked out now however since her nails are

really really small we're actually going to trim these to size and that way

there'll be lots of options for another set of nails when she wants to redo them

but we're going to go ahead and we'll have to be cutting them down to size and

then putting them on her nail so let's get started okay so sizing it to her

nail I need to trim it about right there

all right let's try the first one. now we've never done these sticker before

so this will be interesting there we go there's one let's try this

laughs okay so we've got that and now we need to file off the end of it

all right let's file it down here are three of the nails done so we're getting

a little better each time and we're finding that it's easier just to trim

off the end instead of filing it it's easier just to trim it off with scissors

so onward and upward okay let's see here we need to trim this one down on the

sides so trim all right let's try it and bend it around

I'm not sure that these are as easy as they look all right so there's the

little tiny little tiny pinky and done in an aqua shimmer so they're not

turning out too bad for our first go so onto the second hand this is beautiful

I love it! so we've got the thumb and we've got the index finger all done

shimmery pink now for the last three they feel so lonely. all righty so two

more down are you loving it now for the last little bitty itty bitty

pinky oh okay there they are there's the second hand and then the first hand in

the first hand don't those look awesome now were they as easy as they looked for

us? No.... the ones with the sticker on were easy but not yes mine were easy

these not so easy but they sure are cute so now what we're gonna do is we're

gonna put some clear polish over them to seal them in so there we go this is so

much easier so much quicker too and the ones that haveglitter on them are

going to look even shinier than a yeah mega shine is a sealant and also it is

see how quick this goes I do like this and the nice thing

about clear is you don't have to worry about so much about staying in the lines

because it's clear yeah but you will feel stuff on your fingers but that just

you can clean right up. very very nice so now I'm gonna go over mine. doo doo doo

But then, from the mountain itself how can you see? How can you see yourself?

Lesson 21: Te oku/te aru: how to REALLY understand them. What they never teach! - Duration: 14:53.

Konnichiwa.

Today, we're going to go back to Alice's adventures, and we're going to use them as an opportunity

to look into some of the deeper and more subtle uses of the te-form.

These are covered in the regular textbooks and Japanese learning websites, but as usual

they don't explain the logic behind them, which makes them more difficult to grasp.

And in some cases where there isn't a straightforward English equivalent they really don't tell

you what's actually going on, because they only talk in terms of English equivalents,

which leaves you guessing quite a bit of the time.

So, if you remember, Alice was falling very slowly down the rabbit hole and she had taken

a jar off one of the shelves as she fell.

"sono bin-ni-wa raberu-ga hatte atte 'orenji maamareedo'-to kaite atta"

So we have three te-formed verbs in this sentence.

Let's look at what they're doing.

"Sono bin-ni-wa raberu-ga hatte atte." "Bin" is the word being used for a "jar" here.

It can mean "bottle" – it's often translated as "bottle" – but it can also mean a "jar"

and that's what it means here.

"Raberu" means "label".

It's "raberu" and not "reberu", I believe, because it comes

from another European language other than English.

We can also say "reberu", but that's less common than "raberu".

"Haru" means "stick" or "paste" something onto something else, so this means

that a label was pasted onto the bottle.

Literally, speaking of that bottle as the target of

something, a label was pasted onto it.

Now this use, "hatte aru", we haven't covered in this course up to now.

We've talked about te-form of a verb plus "iru", and we know that "iru" means "be" and

te-form of a verb plus "iru" means to be-doing that verb or to be-in-a-state of that verb.

What about "-te aru"?

"Aru" also means "be", so the meaning is in fact very similar.

It also means to be-in-a-state of that verb.

However, there is a difference, and I'm going to explain that difference with another example.

Let's take the sentence "mado-ga aite iru" and the sentence "mado-ga akete aru".

Both of them mean "The window is open".

"Aite iru" simply means that the window is open, and we can translate that directly into

English, and it's really the same thing.

But "mado-ga akete aru" doesn't have have any English equivalent because it still means

the window is open but it carries another implication.

First of all, we are using the other-move version of "aku", which is "akeru".

"Mado-ga aite iru" – that's the self-move version of "aku" and it simply means to be

open, to exist in a state of openness.

The other-move verb, "akeru", which is the regular ku/keru u-ending verb to e-stem plus -ru

of the third law of self-move/other-move verbs that we've looked at already.

So "aku" means be open yourself, whatever you are, a box or whatever; "akeru" means

open the box, open the door etc.

So what "mado-ga akete aru" means is that the window is open, but it was open because

somebody else opened it.

We're signalling that in the first place by using the other-move version of the verb and

in the second place by using "aru" instead of "iru".

So what's the reasoning behind that?

Well, when we say "mado-ga aite iru", although it is an inanimate object, we're using the

version of "be" which we use for animate beings, people and animals and such.

That in fact is the part that needs explaining, isn't it?

Why are we using the animate version of "be" for an inanimate object like a window?

And we do this all the time.

We're always saying "-te iru" for inanimate objects of all kinds.

The reason is that in this expression we're simply saying the window was open – we're

not implying that anybody opened the window.

So, in a way, we can say that we're treating the window as an honorary animate being.

The window was open, as it were, of its own volition.

We're not saying it's open because of anybody's will other than its own.

So in a certain sense we are treating the window as an honorary animate being:

"mado-ga aite iru".

But if we say "mado-ga akete aru", we are saying that somebody opened the window.

The window was the mere object of having been opened by somebody else.

So it loses its status as an honorary animate being.

It is treated as a mere object, an inanimate thing – "akete aru".

And the thing to understand here is that even though it's lost its status as an animate

being, even though we're using the other-move version of the verb,

the ga-marked actor of this sentence is the window: "mado-ga akete aru".

The window is doing the action, which is "aru": the window is existing in a state of having

been opened by somebody else.

And that is the same thing that's happening in our sentence from Alice.

"sono bin-ni-wa raberu-ga hatte atte": "The jar existed in a state of having had a label

pasted onto it".

Now, as you see, there is really nothing equivalent to this in English, so we just need to get

it into our minds so that we can look at the Japanese as Japanese.

This is fundamental to what I'm teaching here.

I'm teaching the real structure of Japanese, not simply throwing some Japanese at you and

throwing some English at you and saying, "Well, this kind of means that."

We need to get rid of English translation as far as possible and look at the Japanese

as it really works in itself as Japanese.

And that's why my "translations" under the trains get weirder and weirder.

Because I'm not trying to translate this for you into natural English.

I'm trying to tell you what the Japanese is really doing.

So the second half of the sentence...

The second te-form, of course, is simply joining the first logical clause in this compound

sentence to the second logical clause.

And the second logical clause is "'orenji maamareedo'-to kaite atta".

And here we have again this "-te aru" form.

And whenever we talk about something being written on something we tend to use this form.

We don't say "The label said 'Orange Marmalade''', which is what we say in English,

as if the label could speak. We say

"'orenji maamareedo'-to kaite atta".

-To is our quotation particle, of course, that's quoting exactly what was written on

the label, and then "kaite aru" means that it was in a state of having had those words

written on it by somebody else.

Now, I'm going to do something a tiny bit unusual here.

I hope you won't mind.

I'm going to skip ahead just a little bit in the story, because the next part contains

a very interesting point that really needs a lesson of its own, and the part immediately

after that includes something that really rounds out what we're doing today.

It introduces "-te oku", which really belongs together with "-te iru" and "-te aru".

This relationship is something the textbooks don't explain and because they don't it leaves

"-te oku" rather undefined in people's minds.

Many quite advanced students don't really understand why "-te oku" is used in some cases.

So we'll go ahead with that now and I'll just fill you in on the story in between.

It's only a little bit.

Alice realizes that the marmalade jar is in fact empty, and what's she going to do with it?

She doesn't want to drop it because it'll fall all the way

down the hole and very likely kill someone.

And, if you read the newspapers, you're probably aware that there are far too many

empty marmalade jar incidents in Wonderland already.

So, now you know the background, let's carry on.

"Umaku todana-no hitotsu-he toorisugari-ni oite oita."

"Umaku" means "skilfully"; "todana" as we know is a "cupboard"; "todana-no hitotsu",

as we talked about in the last lesson, is "one of the cupboards".

So she skilfully in passing put it into one of the cupboards.

And what's this "oite oita"?

Now, they're both the same "oku", "oku" meaning to "put".

The first one is simple enough: she "put" it into the cupboard, but why do we have the

second "oku" on the end of it – "oite oita"?

Now, this is another very common and very important te-form usage and it's one that

the textbooks and English-language websites tend not to explain very well, because it's

something we really don't have in English.

However, we already halfway know it, because it is in a certain sense the other half of "-te aru".

"-Te oku" means to put the action in place.

Now in this particular use, it's quite easy to see because she's putting the jar literally

into place and she's putting that action into place.

What the textbooks and websites tell you is that it means doing something in advance,

doing something for the purpose of something else.

And this is true in many cases.

It's probably the nearest you can get in English.

But what it actually means is putting the action in place.

And to understand this let's go back to our example "mado-ga akete aru" –

"the window is open because somebody opened it".

Now, the somebody who opened it, if we say it instead of from the point of view of the window,

from the point of view of the person doing the action, "akete oku" is the other side of this.

The person put the opening of the window into place so that thereafter the window would be open.

So you see we have the two halves of the same coin.

"Mado-ga akete aru" – the window stands open because somebody put it there.

"Mado-wo akete oku" – open a window so that it will stand open for the future, so that

it will then be open, put into place the action of opening the window.

And this is what "oku" means – "oku" means "place".

So you're "placing" the action, you're puting it into place, you're setting it up.

And that's why it tends to have the secondary meaning of "do in advance" or "do for another

purpose", because you are setting up that action and the implication is that you want

the effect of that action to "remain in place" for whatever future purposes it may have.

In this case, Alice does not have a future purpose.

So in fact, te-form plus "oku" has a much wider range of meaning than the "do in advance"

or "do for a purpose" kind of English translation that it gets in the textbooks.

In the case of Alice in this story, she isn't really doing anything in advance or for a purpose;

she's simply trying to solve the problem of what to do with the empty marmalade jar

without risking injuring the people below.

And there are many cases when this usage falls even further from the English-language definitions.

For example, people say, "It's cruel to lock a small child in her room", and for this we use "tojikomite oku".

"Tojikomeru" is "shut someone up/lock someone away" and the "-te oku" here doesn't mean

do it for a purpose, it doesn't mean do it in advance.

It means do the action and leave its results in place/put the action in place and leave it in effect

Similarly, people say, "It's all right to leave a baby to cry sometimes" – "nakasete oku".

"Naku" is "cry"; "nakaseru" is the causative of cry: "allow to cry" in this case.

And the "-te oku" doesn't mean do it in advance or do it for some special purpose.

It simply means do the action and leave its effects in place/put the action in place.

Sea Bass and Henslow's Swimming Crab - Trolling for Sea Bass - 4K 50FPS - Duration: 8:41.

Heading to my favourite spot

I have been catching Sea Bass consecutively in this spot only the number varies

In the last 4 times, I caught 14 Sea Bass

A few moments ago, near the Cape, I came across Volvo Ocean Race sailboat

Team Sun Hung Kai

Fish! Fish on!

Going to the right trampoline

The Fish is coming from port.

Big belly Sea bass!

We are not in the season of spawning

This Sea Bass had just swallowed 7 crab

I'm completely surrounded by Henslow's Crab

They are everywhere

swarms near the surface

This year is the first time, I sight them in such a large number

Henslow's crab is unique an active swimmer in the water column from the bottom to the surface

With the sonar help, I´m going to show what is happening bellow the surface

Near the surface and down to 5m swimming crabs

I watch them everywhere

In the middle of the water column, the sonar is showing probably more crab

The red dark balls in the lower part have similar colours to the ones found near the surface

I presume they are also crabs

In the Summer the Henslow's crab comes closer to shore for spawning

Sea Bass chase the swarms of crab fattening up with so much food available

Last June, I caught a Sea Bass with 11 crabs in the belly

Trolling but without fish strikes

With so much food suspended in the water

I begin to agree that the sea bass are only active in the short periods they are feeding

Returning, I'm "running" with the stern wind

Fish on!

Going to change lures this one dives + 12m

Current speed 7,5 knots

Wind gust helps and I reach a maximum speed of 8.5 knots

this means makeover time let's do some nails

all right Bug, so which ones are you gonna pick for today I'm gonna take this

one so you picked the one that has the tropical vibe good choice I think I will

pick the sweet treat stickers and we'll save these for another time okay let's

see which stickers should I choose first I think I'm gonna try this awesome cake

on a pedestal and we'll put it right there okay so now which one do you think

we should choose next which shall we put on this

thumb the cake so Bug is gonna help me do mine

and then I will help her to hers oh look at that oh so cute

I think for the next one we should do one the candy hearts that works so we

should do a smaller one I guess two candies would look good okay super sweet

is Cutie. all right let's do the other hand and Sweetie with hi there sweetie

with the pie sweet only three more to go next one I'm going to put on these these

two little cakes oh those are cute so we're coming along it's all right perf-

perfect fit and last ..Mr ring finger Mr. Ring Finger is going to get a little

lollipop surprise it's already going on oh I am love these stickers aren't they

cute especially with the painted nails oh it's in the middle look at that so there they

are all sweetened up those are awesome we have lots more to save for another

time that's a pretty good value for a dollar lots of sweets to go around here

are the nail stickers that Bug picked out now however since her nails are

really really small we're actually going to trim these to size and that way

there'll be lots of options for another set of nails when she wants to redo them

but we're going to go ahead and we'll have to be cutting them down to size and

then putting them on her nail so let's get started okay so sizing it to her

nail I need to trim it about right there

all right let's try the first one. now we've never done these sticker before

so this will be interesting there we go there's one let's try this

laughs okay so we've got that and now we need to file off the end of it

all right let's file it down here are three of the nails done so we're getting

a little better each time and we're finding that it's easier just to trim

off the end instead of filing it it's easier just to trim it off with scissors

so onward and upward okay let's see here we need to trim this one down on the

sides so trim all right let's try it and bend it around

I'm not sure that these are as easy as they look all right so there's the

little tiny little tiny pinky and done in an aqua shimmer so they're not

turning out too bad for our first go so onto the second hand this is beautiful

I love it! so we've got the thumb and we've got the index finger all done

shimmery pink now for the last three they feel so lonely. all righty so two

more down are you loving it now for the last little bitty itty bitty

pinky oh okay there they are there's the second hand and then the first hand in

the first hand don't those look awesome now were they as easy as they looked for

us? No.... the ones with the sticker on were easy but not yes mine were easy

these not so easy but they sure are cute so now what we're gonna do is we're

gonna put some clear polish over them to seal them in so there we go this is so

much easier so much quicker too and the ones that haveglitter on them are

going to look even shinier than a yeah mega shine is a sealant and also it is

see how quick this goes I do like this and the nice thing

about clear is you don't have to worry about so much about staying in the lines

because it's clear yeah but you will feel stuff on your fingers but that just

you can clean right up. very very nice so now I'm gonna go over mine. doo doo doo

doo quick quick quick quick quick so nice

that needs to be stuck down just a little bit

How I Spent My Summer Vacation! - Duration: 8:11.

For our summer vacation this year, Kellyn and I visited the Pacific Northwest...

And had a lot of fun with my siblings...

Saw some beautiful scenery along the coast...

Made my nephew's son very happy with the gift of a model train...

Received a gift of an even better model train from my brother in law...

Took an amazing ride on a big model train through a forest...

Raced a real Amtrak train...

Relaxed in this beautiful backyard retreat...

And visited the town along the Columbia river, where we plan to eventually retire and build our dream home.

Our trip started with a long drive up Interstate 5 through California...

Where we got a great look at Mt Shasta...

Which still had some snow on it in spite of the warm summer air temperatures.

Once we got in to Southern Oregon, we raced an Amtrak train on the tracks that parallel highway 97 in the area of Klamath Falls.

I got a kick out of seeing that Amtrak train because that second locomotive is a General Electric Dash 8...

The exact same type of Amtrak locomotive that I have in my model train collection.

My little scale model of the Amtrak Dash 8 is the fastest train in my collection, so...

I thought it was kind of ironic when I found myself racing alongside one on highway 97 in Oregon!

Right after racing that Amtrak train, we visited Train Mountain... the longest miniature railroad in the world.

It's located just north of Klamath Falls, in a beautiful area of forest not too far from Crater Lake national park.

We took a two hour ride around the big layout that winds through the forest there at Train Mountain...

And I got to sit up at the front so my camera would have an unobstructed view.

Hopefully, you've already seen the video I posted a few weeks ago, all about our visit to Train Mountain.

If not, there should be a link to it on the screen right about now.

Then we made our way to Washington's Tri Cities of Richland, Kennewick and Pasco... located along the Columbia River.

Hey look, they even have cruise ships!

My sister has a farm up here, and eventually, when I'm able to retire from my real job...

Kellyn and I want to move up here and build our dream house.

Speaking of dream houses... check out this pool we got to spend some time in while visiting with my Washington family!

It gets really warm up here in the summer time on the east side of Washington...

And it's always a treat to spend some time here in this pool on a hot summer day.

And I think I should have had a little more to drink on this particular day, though...

I actually got a bit of heat stroke before the day was over.

At my sister's farm... My brother in law, Big Jim K, took me in to the top-secret location where he keeps one his most prized possessions:

A beautifully restored 1957 Ford truck.

But there was another little jewel hidden among the boxes that he had stored in there...

An old Bachmann-brand train set that had been in his family for years and years.

With his kids all grown, they hadn't run this train around the Christmas tree in a long time...

So, he wanted to give it to me... since it's G-scale and fully compatible with all of the trains in my collection.

In my next video, you'll get a look at this little steam train running on my layout at home.

And let me just say that I've been really happy with how well this nice gift from my brother-in-law...

Has integrated with all my other G-scale model train equipment.

You'll get a long look at it in my next video.

After a few great days at my sister's farm, we headed over to the Oregon coast...

Where we met up with my brother and my other sister...

And spent a few days just hanging out together at the coast...

Having fun... being tourists...

And just enjoying each other's company.

We try to get together like this just about every summer.

And I'm in charge of getting one good photo of us together each year.

And I think I nailed it this year!

Each day we took a little drive along the coast...

And explored interesting places we found along the way.

The coast of Oregon is incredibly beautiful, and summer is definitely when you want to visit there.

In the winter it's often gray and rainy and cold...

But the weather we had for our visit in July was fantastic.

There's a rugged beauty to the coastline here in Oregon.

But it's also very tourist-friendly with everything a visitor would need...

Including lots of really nice places to stop for a good meal.

We spent days here on the Oregon coast just hiking and exploring and hanging out together as a family.

Having a lot of good laughs along the way!

And everywhere we looked, it was just one beautiful scene after another.

This scenic lighthouse near Florence, Oregon, was particularly beautiful.

I got this nice shot of it from a scenic spot along the road...

But we also hiked up to the lighthouse itself... and enjoyed some amazing views along the way.

At the beach, we got lucky and managed to catch the tide out...

Which exposed some pretty nice tidepools... where we found all sorts of interesting marine life to explore.

It doesn't matter whether you're six years old or sixty...

It's always fun to poke around in a tide pool at low tide!

Another interesting spot we visited was Sea Lion Caves.

You park way up on a bluff overlooking this beautiful stretch of the coast, just north of the town of Florence.

But then you take an elevator down through the rock...

And at the bottom of the elevator, you literally end up inside a cave where lots of sea lions hang out.

I totally blew it by only bringing my GoPro down in to the cave with me...

And not bringing my big camera with the zoom lens.

So, this video I shot of the sea lions kind of sucks!

Without a zoom lens, I couldn't get a close enough view for you to see it very well. Sorry!

I had a pair of binoculars with me... and I tried holding the GoPro up to the binoculars...

Which gives you a bit of a close-up of some of the sea lions.

But in spite of my bad video, I really did enjoy my visit to Sea Lion Caves.

And really, all of the Oregon coast, and the Pacific Northwest.

It was a fun vacation.

People have different personality, and we are aware of that.

However, we actually are not aware of self-personality until people tell us something.

We also know our personality through other response, and it can give us clue on how we

are actually perceived by others.

In this video, I'm going to share with you some habits that help you find out your true

personality.

These are some habits that you can rely on to find out your personality.

#1 - How you shop around.

There are two kind of people.

One that only purchases something because of specific feature, and the other who purchases

something because he knows the thing will work.

If it is the former, this person usually pays attention more to detail while the other only

wants to know the general idea on how it is used.

#2 - How you hang toilet paper.

There is a research indicating that hanging toilet paper upwards represents more aggressive

personality while downward direction means assertiveness.

However, it is worth noting that some people change the direction of toilet paper they

encounter.

#3 - How you choose foods.

There are three kinds of people in this group.

The first is who chooses fast-food.

This group tends to be ambitious.

They also like new experiences even though they are absolutely impatient.

The next group prefers adventurous and picky eaters.

Both represent on how open they are to new experiences.

The last group has weird habit to separate foods and they tend to be discipline.

#4 - How you walk.

The way you walk tells many things about you.

One of the most significant aspects that can be seen is how vulnerable you are.

One of the clearest signs is when there is a shift in style of using language as the

relationship closer.

You probably don't know that you can detect narcissism from far away just by reading an

email.

Email that consists of full personal pronoun such as I, myself, me, and mine tends to be

sent by narcissists.

#7 - How you manage your time.

Somehow, managing time tells your personality very well because it is a trait that cannot

be changed overnight without full commitment.

Some people are overly realistic by believing they can do the job in very short amount of

time.

Other prefer racing to deadline by starting the project late.

#8 - How you react on anxiety.

When you nervous, you probably do something repetitively unnecessary.

Pulling hair, nail biting, and pen playing are the signs of perfectionists especially

in stressful or boring situation.

#9 - How you use the phone.

The more addicted you are to the phone, the more unstable your mental condition is.

Using phone in excessive manner, however, is not exclusive to introverts or any specific

types of personality.

Although those are famous of being preserved, literally everyone can experience the syndrome.

#10 - How you organize inbox.

Some people really want to make their inbox clean, neat and organized.

However, it turns out that this behavior is actually related to how controlling you are.

#11 - How you take selfie.

If you are a careful person, you wouldn't take selfie in private place.

If you take pictures from below, you are probably kind or friendly person.

If you show a positive emotion, you like new experiences.

Those are all common traits related to how you take selfie.

UNSEEN Japanese Food- HOT DOGS & BURGERS Tokyo | Japanese STREET FOOD |130 year old SOBA restaurant - Duration: 18:36.

we're in Tokyo, Japan the food culture here is incredible and we are so excited

to film a huge food series here let's get food hunting

Tokyo if you love to

eat that word alone is enough to get you excited, in this video we're taking you

to where the locals eat, a soba institution that's been serving its noodles for over

130 years, street food snacks and unique Japanese hot dogs and

burgers like you've never seen them before

get ready for some mouth-watering food

I'm Thomas and I'm Sheena and we're Chasing a Plate, we hope you're hungry, let's eat!

we're so excited for our day of food hunting in Tokyo today our first stop is

a famous restaurant called Kanda Matsuya and they're really well known for their

soba which are buckwheat noodles and the restaurant has been in business for

over 130 years, so the building is right behind me, it is so spectacular it's

built in the traditional style and it's so Tokyo that it's smack bang between

two really modern apartment blocks, let's go and eat

"one soba toro please" "medium or large?" "medium, thank you very much" "thank you very much"

thank you very much

I'm so excited to be eating this soba, this restaurant is very famous the place is packed

with locals and our soba has arrived I have ordered the zarusoba so soba

are these buckwheat noodles, they're presented in a really beautiful lacquer

box and they're cold and then they've been sprinkled with sheets of nori or

seaweed and then it comes with this dipping sauce which is made up of soy

and mirin which is a sweet cooking wine and then we've also got some condiments

so some really finely sliced spring onion and then some wasabi

so what you

do is you grab a strand of the soba whoaaaa

look at that, alright so just enough that you can put in your mouth in one go

and then you grab the dipping sauce and dip the soba into the sauce

mmmmmm

whoa

I just can't get over how something

so simple can just taste so vibrant, there's so much flavour in those noodles they're

really nutty and then that seaweed just gives it a little bit of crunch in that

mouthful and then them being cold is really refreshing

the soy sauce dipping sauce has just got the perfect amount

of saltiness, this is amazing

I'm think I'm gonna grab some wasabi for my next bite so

I'll grab a tiny dab of that, some noodles oooo alright

dip it in that sauce

mmm

mmmmmm

adding that wasabi was awesome I got that really pungent hit in my nose

gave it a bit of spice, these noodles are incredible so simple

I've ordered the tororo soba so this is a cold buckwheat soba the same as

Sheena had but the sauce that it comes with, the dipping sauce is a yam based

sauce and you can see it's really frothy looking and has some some seaweed some

powdered seaweed on top there, so we'll give these a dip, wow look at that

it's really thick the sauce, really thick

wow

Wow it's so delicate, so the noodle it's a

cold noodle and it's not room temperature it's actually cold so it's

got a sort of a fridge temperature to it that dipping sauce that had a really strong

taste of the seaweed because of that powder on top I got a lot of that powder and then

a little bit of earthiness from the yam I'm gonna grab some more though because

I didn't get enough of the actual sauce, so it's very thick see the noodles just

kind of sit on top of it so I'm gonna actually dunk them right in there, ohhhh coated

okay, wow that was absolutely incredible so I

didn't get as much of that seaweed powder that time because it wasn't coating it

like the first mouthful and it's got a beautiful earthiness, a real

nuttiness like Sheena mentioned and the noodles are just the most perfect

texture, let's get some more noodles into the sauce and I love the texture of it

look how thick it is, it just absolutely coats those noodles and it's almost a

little bit stretchy like there's some starch in the yam so the yams a root

vegetable so I imagine there probably is a little bit of starch in there ohhhh like it's

not even falling off

mmmmm

it is so delicate, ridiculously delicate but so packed with flavour

it is a little bit salty, it's a bit sweet, it's got the texture of that slightly

sort of sticky, gluggy sauce, the noodles have the perfect amount of little bite on them

a little bit of chew

it's unreal how good something this delicate can be

on the table is a teapot

of the water that the soba was cooked in so what you do is you

take the teapot and then you pour some of that sobaya it's called into the rest of

your dipping sauce and then you can sip it as a soup

ohhh it's just so good, it's very savoury, it's a little bit sweet from that mirin

this is just such an incredible meal, so simple and it's so fresh, adding that spring

onion into each bite as well really just added another layer of vibrancy to the soba this,

it's been incredible

that was such a special experience I'm so glad that we

made the time to go and eat that soba, the atmosphere was just beautiful and

those noodles were top notch

we've come to Ameyoko Street Market for our next snack and we hear there's a

really good little cutlet here, this is a really neat little area with lots of

little laneways, lots of food stalls let's go and find this cutlet

"one minced meat cutlet and two beers please" "yes"

we've grabbed a menchi katsu, the little cutlet and we couldn't pass up a couple

of cold beers to go with this one, it's quite hot here today in Tokyo, look how golden

this thing looks, so it's a minced beef and onion cutlet and little deep fried

snacks like this are pretty common here in Japan and this one is meant to be

very very good, I'm just going to bite straight in

mmmm wow mmmm

that is really good, this crumbed outside is really crispy not too oily but it

definitely is holding a bit of oil and then the mince mixture's really loose, so

really fine mince but quite loosely packed but with quite big sweet bits of

onions that are still quite um quite sweet when you bite into them it's very

tasty

let's grab a sip of cold Sapporo

that is a good combo, I need some more of this cutlet

mmmmm

really nice and peppery too, it's like sweet from the onion and then it's got a

great pepperiness really good crunch from the, from the batter on the outside

or the crumb this is really tasty, that's the perfect snack absolute perfect and super

cool that you can get a cold beer stand right on the street here in the market

right in the lanes, beer, snack, before you head off to your next stop

that was a really good snack you might have noticed it was very expensive

on the screen we always put the prices and that's because it was really top

grade beef and it really tasted like top grade beef it was nice and pink, super juicy/tasty

we've come to a different part of town to hunt down a burger and hot dog

restaurant now we love a good burger and we love a good hot dog but these burgers

and hot dogs are really unique they're Japanese style so think eel hot dogs and

fish burgers with tofu sauce I can't wait to eat let's go and order

one kobuzime fish burger and the boiled conger tempura dog

this restaurant is named Deli-fu-cious or Deli-fuh-cious I'm not quite sure of

the exact pronunciation but the chef wanted his restaurant to be called a

combination of the two words f*cking and delicious so f*cking delicious food and it also

says on the card here burgers buy a sushi chef and that's

because the chef owner is a former experienced sushi chef and every

morning he goes to Tsukiji two source the fish for his burgers and

hotdogs

we grabbed takeout and we're going to take it to a nearby park because the

restaurant was playing really great music but it was really recognisable

music and we didn't want to get a copyright strike by YouTube

let's rip

into this parcel okay so we ordered a fish burger and then also a boiled

conger eel tempura dog, I'm going to rip into the fish burger first so it's just

wrapped in some paper it's quite a hefty parcel, all right

ohhhh the the smells coming

from this thing are amazing oh and it's nice and hot whoaaaa look at that, this burger

looks amazing and I'm so excited to try it because the preparation of the burger

and the ingredients of the burger are both really Japanese so let's start

with what it's made up of, so you've got this bun and it's been branded with the

logo of the restaurant and then underneath the bun you've got some

microgreens in there and then some really thinly sliced lotus root and then

that white sauce on top of that fish filet is a tofu sauce and then you've

got that really thick piece of breaded and deep-fried fish and then underneath that

you've got like a Japanese slaw so really finely shredded cabbage and I

think there's some tsukemono or some pickles in there as well I've just

got to get in and eat it

mmmmm

whoa it's all over my face

holy moly check out that fish look how

big that piece of fish is, that is crazy and it's so flavorsome, this thing is delicious

the bun is really soft and then you've got that really sort of almost sticky

slightly gluggy tofu sauce and then you crunch into that piece of fish the

breadcrumb is really, really crunchy the fish is really tender and soft and then

you've got that slight crunch from the shredded cabbage, the slaw, it's got a

little bit of tanginess I think because it has got the tsukemono or the

pickles in it alright let's go again I'm gonna get this corner because the fish

is really thick and juicy looking there

mmmmm

mmm, mmmm, mmmmm ohhhh man

it is so good, the fish is very meaty but still very juicy so I read that

before they cook the fish, the fish is stored between layers of kelp and that

means that the kelp then draws moisture out of the fish and then also

the fish becomes flavoured with a bit of that seaweed flavour and you can really

taste that in the fish it's really juicy, really flavoursome and like the texture

of the burger is amazing you've got the crunch, you've got the softness of the

bun and then just that juicy meaty fish, the tofu sauce doesn't really taste like

much but it adds just another level of moistness to the burger it is amazing

and so unique it's unlike anything I've ever eaten

I've unwrapped this anago hot dog or conger eel hot dog here is this

beautiful bit of eel which has a tempura batter on it and has been deep-fried

it's got some very very finely julienned cucumbers, fresh cucumber looks like

there might be some lemon rind or some sort of citrus rind on there, the eel is

covered in a sauce it's a brown sauce and this is the sauce I think that they

use for the eel so I think it's the same sauce you'll get when you order eel

on rice in a restaurant and it's made with the broth of the eel and some

sugar and some soy and then this bun was toasted in the same way as Sheena's so

it had, the the liquid sort of basted on a thick sticky looking liquid and

when that went on the charcoal grill it flared up so it must be a sweet liquid

cause it really caught and flared up a beautiful big flame oh and the hot dog

came with this little, little fish of liquid which i think is a soy and mirin

liquid and that was just to go on to the eel so let's squeeze some of that on the

eel, ohhh and I can see some mayonnaise in there as well

mmm, mmmmmm, mmmm

oh my god I love eel and this is incredible

my first thought on biting into that it's not like takeaway food it's not

like a hot dog it's like proper food if you know what I

mean, it doesn't feel like a rushed, I'm covered in this, it is so good I'm glad

I'm covered in it, it doesn't feel like a rushed, thrown together quick bite it

feels like a delicious bite that eel is super soft, the batter has a wee crunch

on it and then the cucumber just adds a real pop, a real crunch of freshness oh

that is so good I need some more of this eel

Oh my god, it is so good, mmmm

it is so well cooked I love the texture

of eel so it's quite a soft meat, kind of almost squishy I'd call it and that's

how it should be and this is exactly how it is, it's just the most perfect texture

has a slight fishy sort of seafood taste a little bit salty, sort of sea salty so

this is a conger eel, conger eel is from the ocean so this is a saltwater eel and

it is it's incredible and that sauce on it and on the bun is a bit sweet so it

adds a real sweetness overall to the dish, this is amazing, absolutely amazing

I love the way it looks I love the way it tastes it is so damn good

Wow that was so incredible it was such a memorable meal, it was so good and a

great way to finish the day having started the day with that very very

traditional meal in that incredibly old restaurant and then going to the other

end of the scale with the really modern meal but done in a such a Japanese way

the delicate cooking techniques, delicate flavours, unbelievable

Hey guys! It's Soo here :)

So last month, I actually had the WORST breakout on my chin EVER!

sigh...

It got to a point where...

Well, when I usually get acne

I actually don't freak out or worry

I just be like..."huh! I guess there's another acne there..."

But this time around, it got SO serious that

for the first time in my life, I actually got scared

and I started to worry if there was something wrong with my body

and I even debated going to a hospital...

That's how bad it was...

So from that moment on, I started really looking after my skin

So there were 2 things that I did

First, as you guys know I stopped eating white-flour based processed food (white bread, pasta etc)

So that's one of the things I stopped eating

and recently, I also cut down high -sugar processed food

for example, juice, sweet drinks, ice-cream, bingsoo...:(

also, I'm trying to cut down food with lots of grease (fried stuff)

yeah so basically, there's nothing left for me to eat now lol

so this was one of the first things that I did

I really took care of my body and what I eat

and this helped me prevent getting acne all together

the second thing that I did

this is also something that I think is very important

which is to calm your skin down and help it recover with the proper skincare

so in today's video, I'm going to show you guys how I took care of my skin with skincare

and how it got better

so let's get started right away!

So as my chin was dealing with the WORST breakout in my life TT

the skincare product I used was

this Innisfree Bija Cica Gel

THis product was actually one that I had been using for quite a while

and I actually showed this to you guys a couple of times

but for this video, I used this product for 2 weeks straight, day and night

So, let me show you how my chin recovered through photos

As you can see, it was really no joke at the beginning...

but as time goes by, you can see that the redness calms down!

Let's take a look at the ingredients first

to see what it actually is supposed to do

First, this has centella asiatica extract

centella asiatica is known for its calming properties

and there are four main ingredients found in centella asiatica

which are madecassocide, madecassic acid, asiaticoside and asiatic acid.

and if we take a look at the ingredient list of this product,

these 4 ingredients can be found at the relatively at the front of the list

which means that there's more of it in the product

and I also heard that

they didn't mix the centella asiatica with water,

but they used a highly-concentrated processed powder to make it

and I think that's the reason why this has potent effects

Also, this cica gel has Bija oil and panthenol

both are beneficial for the skin barrier

Of course, everyone has different experiences when it comes to skincare,

but while I was using this bija cica gel for two weeks everyday

I saw it calm down my chin a LOT

as you guys saw, my chin area was really angry and red

but with this product, it calmed down over time

especially, when I would apply it the night before

I would notice a drastic difference in the morning

Whenever I have the chance to talk with dermatologists or professionals,

they always tell me that my chin area is more sensitive and weak compared to my cheeks

which is actually the opposite for the average people

but as I was using this, my chin area got stronger

Like I could feel it wasn't as sensitive as it used to be

Let me explain about the formula now!

This product is soooo light

and really refreshing!

Centella asiatica is actually one of the ingredients that I really like and am interested in

so I've had my fair share of using these products

but this has to be the LIGHTEST centella product I've ever used

it's not sticky whatsoever and does settle really nicely on the skin

so this is especially great on hot weathers like this

from dry to oily skin

another thing that I loved about this product is that

this does not carry a scent (YAASS)

so of course, it's great for sensitive skin

but also, it was such a great product to use in this hot sticky summer

I actually stopped spraying perfume nowadays cuz it's so hot!

maybe a hair mist at the most

so that's how much I'm trying to avoid scents

but this one, because it doesn't carry a scent,

I could really appreciate the product

so instead of going in with multiple products for "acne"

I think it's best to go simple

and use products that I know works for me!

so for me, I kept on using this since the bija cica product worked

so it's best to stick to a couple of products that work!

I think this is the best way to deal with acne

I've been dealing with acne for about 7 years

and this was the most effective way for me

Another product that I absolutely loved was

this sheet mask right here!

I love this mask!!!

So this is the Innisfree Bija Cica mask

I actually was once tramautized by a sheet mask

so I avoided them all together for some time

but now, I'm trying them out one by one

This sheet mask is in the same line as the bija cica gel

so it also has calming properties

and it also has sooo much product/essence in it!

so I highly recommend this mask!

I also brought in this bija cica balm

of course, the gel type has the lighter formula

but I also think that the balm is also light enough

so I think this is one that could be used in the summer as well!

We're back with four awesome discoveries you probably didn't hear about this week.

They were once thought to be useless – pieces of DNA that aren't genes.

We now know this "junk DNA" can act as switches that turn genes on and off.

But how do these segments of DNA – called enhancers -- find and activate their target

genes in a cell's nucleus?

Researchers have captured the moment in a living fly embryo, to help understand the mechanism.

Using fluorescent tags, the gene shows as green.

Turns out when the enhancer – blue – makes physical contact…

BOOM! Red!

Gene activity: activated.

This invention could improve lab-on-a-chip.

Engineers have developed a way to manipulate tiny droplets of blood and other biological

fluids by having them surf on acoustic waves in oil.

They can move 'em.

Split 'em.

Mix 'em.

All without leaving a trace of themselves -- overcoming a major drawback in current

models that rely on solid surfaces.

The new lab-on-a-chip platform could form the basis of a programmable, rewritable biomedical chip

for use in diagnostics and research.

On an evening stroll one night in 1670, you might have witnessed the sudden birth of a

new star.

348 years later, astronomers studying the dim remains of the double-star collision that

created that new star…have made the first definitive detection of radioactive molecules

in interstellar space – a form of aluminum monofluoride.

Cast out from the stars' dense inner layer by the crash.

As one of the researchers put it, "We are observing the guts of a star torn apart three

centuries ago by a collision.

How cool is that?"

The long-dormant Yellowstone super volcano is

powered by heat from Earth's core…

or is it.

A recent study finds no evidence for that long-held belief.

New underground X-ray-like images suggest the Yellowstone volcano was produced

when a gigantic oceanic plate dove under the western U.S. 30 million years ago,

crashing the party at Earth's mantle with unusual rocks…

which led to volcanic eruptions,

as party crashers sometimes do.

Why Forest Fires Are Igniting in Unexpected Places - Duration: 2:14.

This jet is fighting forest fires with bombs.

Bombing a fire may seem like a desperate measure and it is.

Sweden, facing their worst drought in 74 years

is fighting the biggest burn they've seen in 12 years,

and in places you wouldn't expect,

as far north as the Arctic Circle.

Flames in Sweden have burned 62,000 acres of land over the past few weeks.

The whole country is on high alert for wildfires.

Forest fires are cropping up in places we've rarely

seen them and with terrifying tenacity.

This summer alone fires have been raging in Finland, Latvia, Norway,

Greece, British Columbia, and the infamously damp United Kingdom.

A report from South Dakota state is saying that due to global warming,

the amount of large forest fires around the world is only going to increase.

A forest fire is a naturally occurring way for the woods to rejuvenate itself.

There are many causes, but the ingredients are the same.

You need a dried out wooded area and a spark,

this spring and summer massive heat waves have set

record temperatures from Japan to Siberia, Pakistan to Oslo.

The NOAA is saying 2018 is on pace to be the fourth hottest year ever recorded,

that would make the last five years the top five hottest years ever.

In the US, this was the hottest May on record,

and the third hottest June leading to

another year of nasty fires in Colorado and California.

On top of the heat waves,

the areas affected are dealing with a lack of rain as well,

and the jet streams are keeping things that way.

The jet streams or flows of air from west to

east across the northern and southern hemispheres,

they get their power from the difference in temperatures between

the Arctic and equatorial ranges they divide,

and the jet streams help push pockets of air along.

This year that difference isn't as staunch

causing heat waves to get stuck where they are,

and if this trend continues,

we may need to think even more outside the box than having jets bomb our fires.

The Weirdest Medical Practices In The World! - Duration: 10:33.

Mankind has come a long way from the times when any medical procedure was a lesson in

agonizing pain.

Something as mundane as an ingrown nail could lead to death, and let us all just be glad

that we have made so much progress in the field of medicine.

But there were still some medical practices from the olden times that we just thought

were too weird!

13.

Mouse Paste.

Ancient Egypt did suffer a lot from dental problems, especially toothache.

The reason was that sand would get in almost everywhere there, including the food.

Thus, eating the gritty sand often resulted in the enamel covering being worn down.

But the Egyptians found a cure for this toothache.

Rat!

Yes, dead and often festering rat were used as a treatment in Egypt.

A paste would be made from these dead mice and applied on the places where it hurt.

And if the pain was too great to handle, the entire mouse was applied directly!

Needless to say, this sort of a treatment caused more harm than good as a simple old

toothache was often converted into a full blown infection.

Humans.

Yea, that's right!

There were a lot of times when human flesh, blood or bone was used as a medical treatment.

In fact, those suffering from persistent headaches, cramps and stomach ulcers were supposedly

cured by an elixir that contained human blood!

In fact, Romans believed that the blood of a fallen gladiator could cure epilepsy!

And there was also the 12th century medicine which was basically mummy powder!

These cannibalistic medicines were though to have magical powers and it was said that

once you consumed the remains of a dead person, part of their soul would also come into you!

Cutting Teeth.

When babies start to grow teeth, it can be a harrowing time for parents as they end up

chewing anything and everything!

But in 16th century France, there was a process which would allow for the teeth to come out

much faster!

What they would do is take a scalpel and cut the tissue over the teeth so that it would

come through, And even though this practice started in France, it spread to other parts

of the world as well.

This practice was used till the early parts of the 20th century but it is unclear how

many children died because of this procedure as the instruments used for the cutting weren't

always sterile and it did lead to a trauma in kids.

Babylonian Skull Cure.

In ancient Babylonia, most illnesses were thought to be the result of demonic forces

or a punishment by the Gods.

And doctors were more or less like priests who ordered some very bizarre ways of treatment.

For example, if a patient ground their teeth, it was believed that the spirit of a family

member was trying to contact them.

And more often than not, the cure for these diseases were to keep a human skull by the

bedside as they slept at night to ward off the spirits.

Oh, and they were also supposed to lick the skull a few times every night to increase

effectiveness!

Bloodletting.

There is an actual reason why the term bad blood has come to describe feuds.

Or at least we think so!

In ancient times, whenever anyone felt sick, it was usually though that it was the result

of some bad blood.

It was believed that all the fluids in the body needed to be kept maintained for a proper

functioning human.

So, the practice of bloodletting started in Egypt and Sumeria and soon spread to the rest

of the world.

To restore the bodily harmony, doctors of those times simply made a cut on a vein of

a person and drained some of the blood.

Alternatively, leeches were also used to suck out blood.

And while the blood loss could easily lead to a lot of deaths, bloodletting was practiced

well into the 19th century!

From the sore throat to the plague, they thought everything could be cured by just letting

the bad blood out!

Trepanation.

This one is one of the oldest forms of surgery that was done.

Of course, the reason for such a surgery was hardly rooted in science.

Trepanation basically involved drilling holes into your skulls.

The most important reason for doing that would probably have been to release the evil spirits

and demons possessing the minds.

Of course scientists can only speculate, but it kind of does stand to reason does it not?

But while it is difficult of doing such a thing even today, it is but obvious that there

would have been some complications arising out of such a dangerous procedures and findings

in Peru have shows that there was probably an emergency treatment for the skull fragments

left behind in the head!

Mercury.

While mercury is a fascinating metal, there is no doubt today that it is highly toxic.

But in the ancient times, mercury was actually a prized medicine and was used as an ointment.

Liquid mercury, or quicksilver and red mercury sulfide were used often as it supposedly increased

life span and vitality.

Of course, there were also some healers who said that a brew of mercury, arsenic and sulfur

would give their patients immortality and the ability to walk on water.

Needless to say, but it didn't and in fact this sort of a diet claimed many lies, including

that of Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang.

And this is not the only case of mercury being used as a medicine.

From the renaissance to the early 20thcentury, mercury was also used as a treatment for syphilis.

Well, let us be thankful that mercury only appears in thermometers today as far as medicine

is concerned!

Animal Dung Ointment.

As far as ancient medicine goes, the Egyptians were one of the most advanced civilizations.

They had a properly organized medical structure, but that did not mean that all cures they

gave their patients were up to the mark.

Lizard blood, dead mice, mud and moldy bread were often the medicines prescribed by them

and they weren't really that effective.

But one of the things that they prescribed which was really disgusting was human and

animal poop as a cure all remedy for injuries and diseases!

And of all the animals, donkey, dog, gazelle and fly were in demand as they could not just

heal but also keep off the bad spirits.

Well, given that they smell pretty awful, we are sure that more than just spirits would

keep off!

And while some of the dung does contain some medicinal properties, it is not really advisable!

5.

Python Bile.

In China, animals play a huge role in their traditional medicine.

Which was actually one of the ways where the poachers got good returns for their hunts

as the Doctor often paid huge sums to get a hold of these exotic animals and use them

in various medicines.

One such thing was python bile which was used to treat genital ulcers.

The bile of the animal was collected and employed externally to cure the ulcer!

We wonder if part of the treatment was to catch the python as well!

Clay Consumption.

While kids often eat clay, there is no real up side to it!

That is, until the clay is from a special Greek island Lemnos which was used in the

ancient times to treat diarrhea.

Discs of this clay were made and sold as a medical remedy and it was even a popular export

item!

Of course, today eating clay is not considered a form of treatment.

But interestingly, the Lemnos clay has been shown to contain Kaolin and bentonite which

are both used in the medicines prescribed for diarrhea today!

So the ancient Greeks did have some thing right!

Although if you do suffer from diarrhea ever, just don't go looking for this magical,

healing clay and head to the pharmacy!

Partial Tongue Removal.

The ancient days were really not a good time for those who had speech disorders.

Not only were they generally made fun of on all occasions because of a lack of understanding,

sometimes they went through some really bizarre treatments as well!

In the 18th and 19th century Europe, there was a cure for stutters and stammers!

Doctors believed removing a part of the tongue would help in correcting the speech.

And while this process is still used, but the cause is different.

Today, partial tongue removal is used to take out many of the cancerous cells that oral

cancer patients have, but in the olden days it was used as a cure for stammers.

But of course, the cure didn't work and many patients also lost their lives due to

infection and blood loss!

Tobacco.

If someone said today that tobacco is actually a medicine, they would be laughed off because

the harmful effects of tobacco have been documented way too many times!

But in Native American culture, tobacco was a widely used medicine to treat anything from

chronic pain to tuberculosis!

And they were used in a variety of ways as well.

The leaves were smoked, eaten or ground up and applied topically!

While today doctors would actually cry murder over the use of tobacco medicinally, the tobacco

we get today in cigarettes and other products is not really pure.

But even when taken in a pure form, like the Native Americans did, tobacco is still highly

addictive and not really a good idea for a medicine!

Cocaine.

Ok, so this one will actually flip a lot of people out!

But someone as noted as Sigmund Freud believed that cocaine could actually be used as a medicine!

Freud was, and still is, one of the foremost names in psychology and so it would be obvious

that he would study substances that affect the brains as well as the diseases that would

affect the brain.

And as most of us would know, one type of case that psychiatrists always have in abundance

is that of depression.

And he was known for occasionally prescribing the use of cocaine to deal with depression.

And he was not alone either.

Many doctors from the 19th century were known to prescribe cocaine as a treatment for a

range of ailments like depressions, migraines and toothaches!

But whether they were inspired from the renowned psychologist or if it was the other way around,

we might never know!

But one thing is for sure, whatever is ailing you, cocaine is definitely not the answer!

Well, aren't you glad that medical science has actually progressed a lot and does not

need such treatments anymore!
