Hey everyone, I hope you're doing very well!
This is the third week of November, therefore of Mythothon as well.
But today also starts Tome Topple which will be from the 16th to the 29th of November.
Tome Topple challenges us to read books with more than 500 pages.
One of the prompts has to be a buddy-read, for which I'm reading Vengeful by V.E. Schwab.
This is the sequel to Vicious, and I'm reading it with an Instagram friend.
We've already divided the sections we'll be reading per day.
And we're planning to read it during the first week. So it has the priority.
I also started listening the audiobook of The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater.
This is the 4th book of The Raven Cycle saga.
Which I've been calling Raven Boys but no, the saga is called The Raven Cycle.
And it's the last book so with this on I'll finish the saga.
An author contacted me recently to ask if I'd like to read and review his book.
I saw what it was about and it looked really interesting so I said that of course I would love to, and he sent it to me.
It has more than 500 pages, so it's apt for Tome Topple… and for Mythothon.
And that's Eteka, Rise of the Imamba. It's historical fiction set during The Cold War.
For what I saw, we're going to follow several characters throughout several countries.
And don't worry, the fact that the author sent it to me doesn't mean my thoughts on it will be biased.
I'll say what I think about it as it is.
But the synopsis really hooked me up, so let's se how it turns out.
And today is the release of the The Crimes of Grindelwald, I'm going to watch it in a while with my boyfriend.
And I'm super excited for it. I'm shocked that I haven't seen a single spoiler of the movie.
For what I've seen, everyone is taking extreme care in not saying anything that may ruin the story.
There's even a hashtag for #ProtectTheSecret so no-one reveals anything, and everything is kept secret,
so the rest of us can go see it without bits of the story ruined beforehand.
And I'm super excited for it!
So far I've only read Vengeful. I've read the first 2 parts we agreed on for the buddy-read.
In this one we follow even more character's points of view than we followed in the first book.
And also more timelines, for it keeps skipping from past to present.
Which is turning out a bit confusing, but each time I'm in doubt I go back to the beginning of the chapter
where it says where we are set in time.
And so far the story is going really well and it's managing to completely hook me up.
And right now I started reading Eteka, Rise of the Imamba. I only read the prologue.
But it's one of those that make you want to know more and what is going on with these characters.
And now I'll share my thoughts on the movie The Crimes of Grindelwald. I'm not giving away any spoiler
but if you haven't watched it yet and want to do so with no biased opinions,
you can skip to this minute, where I've finished talking about it.
So...
The first movie: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, I liked but didn't find it amazing.
And from this sequel I expected so much more,
because from the moment I saw the trailers with a young Dumbledore I got so excited.
I was hoping to see more action, more story, from this movie.
However, as much as I enjoyed the movie because we revisit this magical world, because I love every time we get more magical stuff in the world,
I felt the story was all over the place. It made no sense.
The script had a lot of holes.
Of new things that never get solved. I mean it's the second one out of a 5 movies' series.
So I guess they're laying out everything to develop later.
But this one feels like they throw everything out at you with no logic, which leaves you more confused.
There are also a lot of timeline stuff from this world they didn't respect.
Which contributes in the lack of logic, because you know who should be where and when.
And this movie breaks, in a way, those stories.
So, certain thing where disappointing, but I loved some other ones.
So I hope the next movies fix what they ruined in this one.
And that they have some sense. That the things that happened here have a reason to be.
Maybe I should see it again, in case that could solve some of my doubts.
But, I don't know. I'm a bit undecided about this movie.
That's it.
This weekend is the "Buen Fin", a weekend where we're supposed to have some deals.
Which aren't always that great, but Amazon also has deals on books
and yesterday I got my order.
And while I render the video I just edited, I'll show you what I got.
I bought the following two books from the saga "Chaos...
Chaos..."Chaos Walking"
The second one is The Ask and the Answer, and the third one is Monsters of Men.
I also ordered volumes 3 and 4 of Paper Girls.
And a graphic novel by Isabel Greenberg, The Encyclopedia of Early Earth.
She's the author of one of my favorite graphic novels: The One Hundred Nights of Hero.
This one.
This one's title makes me think it is set in the same universe as this other one.
Though I don't think they have to be forcefully complementary.
Just from the same universe.
I just noticed the spines from the books I bought match.
The render is not ready yet so I'm going to take a photo for Instagram. So I'm taking you with me.
Today I'm going out to a have lunch in a mall. I don't know how great an idea that is because...
being "Buen Fin", it will be full of people.
But I'll take the chance to look for some stuff I need. I'd like to find...
a double tape for the dress I'll wear as a bridesmaid.
And if I find a shower speaker so I can listen to my audiobooks while I shower, it would be awesome.
And, I feel there was something else...
I think that was it.
I haven't finished any of my books, but I'm halfway through Vengeful and The Raven King.
Vengeful is so good! That book is amazing!
We sectioned the buddy-read into equal parts so it was 1 per day and we could finish it in 1 week.
And we're noticing that every time we're going to finish a section, we start a POV from a new character.
So, this book is so well paced, we can tell from the way we divided our sections.
And I've been listening to it while sometimes playing this Spotify playlist.
Which some wonderful being created, this Vicious and Vengeful playlist. And all the songs are by artists I love.
It includes Florence and the Machine, Hozier, Imagine Dragons, among others.
And it's perfect to go along with the book. So that's making me enjoy the book even more.
And now I'll watch Outlander with my mom.
I finished listening to The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater. And now I'm done with The Raven Cycle saga.
And it was a bit.... disappointing.
And I'm not talking about the book per se, but about the ending of the saga.
I feel they were preparing us during 4 books for something to happen, which in the end doesn't.
And everything gets solved so quickly, you don't know what happened there. So I feel the ending fell too short.
I was prepared for an amazing action packed epic scene.
And we didn't get any of that.
Over all I was enjoying this book much more than the last one.
But the ending bumped down the rating to 3.5 stars.
Because as much as I didn't like the ending, I liked the trip.
I specially loved the characters and the weird way these books are written.
They have a very poetic style and use a lot of analogies. Which makes them feel different.
Though there were some parts where I felt the characters knew something I didn't know.
As if they got the idea before the reader does.
I feel it's something you had to accept was true instead of learning it on your own.
And I used it for Hera, which was a book with royalty.
This saga is being, or will be addapted for a TV series.
And I think it promises much more like that.
Because it has so much magic and visual elements that would look amazing on TV.
So for that part, I'm excited to see it.
And I hope they add more action to the ending, what the book lacked.
And on the other hand, today I started listening to Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
I'll use this one for the prompt of Poseidon: a book with pirates or something related to the sea.
This one is about 300 pages long so it won't count for Tome Topple but it will for Mythothon.
Right now I'm going to keep reading Eteka because I've barely read anything from it and I'm staying behind.
And later I have bridesmaid chores, I'm going to go help with some stuff for the wedding.
And tomorrow, for the buddy-read, we have planned to finish Vengeful.
I don't know where I got the restraint to leave that book aside and not keep reading because
that book hooks you up. It's so good!
We finished the buddy-read of Vengeful by V.E. Schwab.
Honestly, I didn't think it would live up to Vicious (the first book).
But actually I may have liked this one even more.
I love Vicious, but this one didn't disappoint at all.
We have the characters from the first book but we also get new characters.
Whom you may not agree with but you still want them to succeed. I don't know.
But the series can't end like this. The ending was one of those that end but leave some things open.
And I want to know more about all these characters, I don't think it will end like this.
And from what I get, in another 5 years she'll release the 3rd book.
So there's a lot of time left until we know what happens with these characters and this story.
But I loved it, I gave it 5 stars.
And I used it for Ares, the God of war, which was a book from the villain's POV.
And I think this one is perfect for that subject.
And yesterday I started listening to the audiobook of My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows
This is a comic retelling of Lady Jane Grey, "Juana de Inglaterra".
And it's so funny, starting with the dedication.
Where they apologize beforehand for what they'll do to England's history in this book.
And they also dedicate it to the people who know there was space for Jack in that door, when the Titanic sinks.
I haven't stopped laughing with that book, and it's 490 pages long so it also counts for Tome Topple.
And now, for my bridesmaid chore, I have to paste these cards to these sticks.
So they fit in the souvenir plantpot of the wedding.
So while I do that, I'll be listening to My Lady Jane.
I'll end this week's vlog here.
I managed to finish 2 books: The Raven King and Vengeful.
But I'm in the middle of Eteka, Treasure Island and My Lady Jane.
And so far the Mythothon grid has only 1 complete line.
The second one.
3 from the top.
2 at the bottom, well 3 at the bottom.
I have only 1 week to finish all the prompts I have left, which are...
Fourteen.
I won't manage to read 14 in a week.
So I hope to at least achieve more lines.
Let's see how this ends. But at least I have 1 line already.
Thanks for watching this video, see you in the next one. Bye!
