Q&A with Jeff Stier | Nicopure Labs - Duration: 24:42.Good afternoon thank you for joining us
for yet another very interesting
interview, I'm Patricia Kovacevic, general
counsel and chief compliance officer at
the Nicopure labs. I'm here today with
Jeff Stier who is the senior fellow at the
National Center for Public Policy
Research. He is the head of the risk
analysis division and also a non
practicing attorney. Happily non
practicing attorney. Good afternoon and
thank you for joining us. Thanks for
having me.
We're here to talk about the recent U.S.
Surgeon General's report and a couple of
other developments regarding the vaping
industry. As you all know, a few weeks ago,
the U.S. Surgeon General has
published its report on electronic
cigarettes and some of the conclusions
drawn in that report are concerning. In
your opinion Jeff, what is the
significance of this report and what can
you tell us about the timing of it.
Well, it wasn't simply a report
by the Surgeon General. It was a Surgeon
General's report which has historical
significance because in 1964, the Surgeon
General released a report on smoking and
that was a very important and bold
document at a time when people didn't know
that smoking was horrible.
This surgeon general's report on vaping,
vaping and youth is actually not only
doesn't only lack the
bold approach of that original Surgeon
General's report. It's actually
purposefully misleading because it only
focuses on youth and there is no
controversy in the scientific community,
in the vaping community, anywhere!
Kids shouldn't use e-cigarettes whether
they have nicotine or not
period end of story. There is no
controversy.The Surgeon General didn't
solving problems. His report only
confused people by suggesting
e-cigarettes are so dangerous and such a
problem when we know kids shouldn't be
using them in the real area where the
public needs more information and more
education is how can e-cigarettes be
used, if at all, to reduce harm from
smoking. The Surgeon General would have
been wise to follow the report of Public
Health England, the largest landmark
government study on these
to date, which of course said kids
shouldn't using cigarettes but talked
about how they are a potential boon to
public health. The Royal College of
Physicians similarly, also way ahead of
the Surgeon General, obviously agreed
kids shouldn't use e-cigarettes but the
Royal College of Physicians suggested
doctors encourage their patients who
smoke to quit smoking using e-cigarettes
because they can help people reduce
their risk.They're ninety-five percent
less harmful than smoking and they're
not a gateway to smoking, so the Surgeon
General who claimed he had two years of
work on this had a hundred and fifty or
more experts advising him seem to only
be able to focus on an area where there
is no debate.
Furthermore, legislation at the state
level and now federal level since
the deeming rule in fact bans the sales
of vaping products to minors and we know
that FDA in fact has done some work in
enforcement in the area of retail age
verification and sales to minors, so
clearly that is the premise that the
industry as well as public health start
from kids should not have access to
nicotine containing products which is
clear but what this report seems to fail
to address is in fact by omission the
true value that these products could
present in harm reduction and it also
fails to address what basically FDA is
doing to really protect kids from the
dangers of smoking. That's an
important point I think that shows the
fact that the Surgeon General only looked at youth
use and didn't get into the potential
benefits of e-cigarettes as a tool for
harm reduction to get adult smokers not
to smoke anymore, I think the fact that
he only focused on the Surgeon General
of the focused on youth and vaping is
because this is part of the Centers for
Disease Control ideological campaign
against e-cigarettes and instead of
giving us a full picture in the full
story he focused only on youth because
it's very clear you can't see much bad
about e-cigarettes and adult smokers we
want them to switch so this is the
reason he only focused on kids was
because this was a Surgeon General's
report which is a Surgeon General's report is
and is supposed to mean something
was being used as a political tool to
advance the Obama administration
campaign against e-cigarettes to support
the FDA's deeming regulation to support
the Center for Disease Control campaign
against e-cigarettes. I think this was a
parting shot from the Obama
administration's Surgeon General.
What measures should the new administration
take in order to at least mitigate some
of the communication damage that this U.S.
Surgeon General report has in fact
accomplished?
Well first and foremost, the Surgeon
General has a four-year term. He was
appointed two years ago so we've got
about another two years left in his term
yet the Surgeon General can be fired by
the president for cause, for doing
something wrong, for not doing his job
right. I will argue that and I will argue
in the upcoming administration that this
report is cause. This report proves that
the Surgeon General has been acting in
the political way and and the office of
Surgeon General was supposed to be above
politics and this report unfortunately
shows that he was just a yeah this
Surgeon General was a supporter of
President Obama before he was appointed
Surgeon General. He was actually an activist
in favor of president Obama, supporting his
ideological campaigns and this shows
that the new administration needs to
fire this attorney general this Surgeon
General we know he likes firing people
apparently but this is an opportunity
for the administration to say we're
going to put the politics of this aside
and get a fresh start with Surgeon
General. There's a lot of the new
administration can do that may require
five more podcast but with regard to the
Surgeon General, he hasn't done much. He
did this and he shouldn't keep his job.
More importantly if you go to the
Surgeon General's web page there is an
infographic that if if you're not a
vaper, if you're not really very
familiar with vaping and you're a smoker
and perhaps want to quit if you go
through that through that
click through web page through talking
about children mainly but you would I
think reach the conclusion
that vaping is outright dangerous, should
be avoided any cost, and it's a gateway
to a lot of other really bad forms of
addiction. Is there really any evidence
to that? I think we can all agree with
what we could quibble with some of the
the science and some of the strength of
the science behind it, we got all agree
unequivocally that kids should not use
e-cigarettes whether they have nicotine in
them or they don't.
The Surgeon General of course pointed
out that nicotine is bad for the
developing brain. I don't think anyone's
going to disagree that kids shouldn't
the kids unquestionably without any
hesitation should never use any
e-cigarette product but to kind of say
that e-cigarettes are so bad because of
the nicotine, apparently even for adults
then that raises questions why should
someone quit smoking and switch to
e-cigarettes if they're also
really bad so the government's approach
and that for the new administration my
advice is to treat different products
according to their risk. Focus on adult
smokers, give them the information based
on science that they need to make
informed decisions about their health
about the choices they make. That's the
only way to get people to change
behavior is to give them information
where they can make decisions on their
own. I don't know of any kids
who are going to quit smoking because of
the Surgeon General's report on smoking
or I don't know any kids who aren't
going to quit vaping if they vape based on
the Surgeon General's report. We need to
give people accurate science-based
information so they can make informed
decisions and the Surgeon General
instead focused on politics. And did a
great disservice in fact to public health
through this reckless report if you say so.
Yeah, it was also a missed opportunity
because there is one Surgeon General's
report on smoking. There is one, you
update it.
There's one Surgeon General's report on
vaping. This report was a huge missed
opportunity to have a little bit of
nuance, I think with the budget he has,
with two years to work on it and with
over a hundred and fifty experts he
could have given us that more nuanced
report and say vaping is bad for kids
kids shouldn't do it and then talk about
the opportunities to dispel some of the
misinformation so many Americans still
think wrongly obviously. Some of the
Americans still think that smoking and
vaping are equally
dangerous. If the Surgeon General is
to do anything it is to add a little bit
of science to the discussion about this
and explain how dangerous cigarette
smoking is, why it's so dangerous and
then it's easy to conclude that you the
use of e-cigarettes by adult smokers can
dramatically reduce their risk, just as the
Royal College of Physicians and Public
Health England have been telling people
based on the science. On the heels of the
U.S. Surgeon General report, only days
after a new report came out monitoring
the future which discusses trends in
teenagers of different addictive
substances and interestingly the the
numbers in that report tell an
interesting story.
Yeah and this is a National Institute of
Drug Abuse funded study at University of
Michigan that has been reporting every
every year or every two years on the use of
tobacco products, on the use of also
e-cigarettes. I still refuse to call them
tobacco products and in previous years,
it showed an increase in the use of
e-cigarettes among youth. Now obviously
there's been an increase in the use of
e-cigarettes among youth over the past
five years because there weren't, there
was no popularity of these products.
That's like saying. They didn't exist 7 or 8 years
ago.
That's like saying the use of iphones
has gone up a hundred percent in the
last four years, six years.
Well, when you go back 10 years there
were no iphones, so of course the numbers
have gone up but interestingly Patricia
this year the use of e-cigarettes among
teens has gone down and while the number
of e-cigarette while the amount of
e-cigarette use was going up over time
among kids even though this year it went
down, while that number was going up it
is interesting that their smoking
rates went down. All along. During that
time period. Now is it possible that kids
who were on a trajectory to begin using
to begin smoking actually instead of
using e-cigarettes as a gateway
toward smoking actually use them as an
off-ramp to smoking and didn't smoke as
a result of e-cigarettes. That's
something that the report
didn't draw a conclusion about previous
years. This year e-cigarette use among
teens went down. I think that's
significant and I think it it takes away
from the argument that the Surgeon
General made in his report which was
that we ought to have sin taxes on
e-cigarettes to keep kids from vaping
because he argued there's been this huge
increase. Well now there is not an
increase, there is actually a decrease. I don't
think the Surgeon General can change his
opinion on that because it wasn't based
on science, it was based on ideology but
I think it's important to note that this
report which was drafted, which was
written by these experts at University
of Michigan, no friends of vaping came
out the way it did. But at the end of the
report in spite of the numbers showing
downwards trend in electronic cigarettes
and the downward trend in even in
smoking and to follow up on what you
said as a cohort you would have expected
to see maybe an optical smoking if truly
e-cigarettes were a gateway.
However, in spite of these reassuring
numbers one of the authors of the report,
the lead author, actually drew a
very puzzling conclusion.
Yeah well he said in in this is in the
press release and this is common. You
know I deal with a wide range of public
health policy topics not just
e-cigarettes. Public health, food safety,
nutrition, obesity, environmental health,
and one thing that I see all the time is
a scientific report that reaches a
certain conclusion and then a press
release that draws entirely new
conclusions that I'm not sure where they
got them from. This is sadly a very good
example of it. The lead author of the
press release, the lead author of the
scientific report said quoted in the
University of Michigan press release
something along the lines of while
vaping may cause social networks that
people become friends from vaping and
then they could eventually go on to
smoke so vaping is a problem. Excuse me?
It would be very difficult to come to an
actual scientific conclusion based on
data that simply asks people how much do
you vape, maybe where you vape and so on.
It will be very difficult to draw those
conclusions. So I think the one conclusion
that you could draw is that the lead
author of this report is not a friend of
vaping. Yet even his own study tells us
that youth vaping rates have gone down.
To me that totally takes away any
argument that the Surgeon General has to
back up his political claim that we
ought to be taxing cigarettes and by the
way for the Surgeon General in a
scientific report to be making these
types of policy recommendations raises
questions, but let's leave that aside. The
basis for that political argument that
we should have a cigarette taxes to
preventing youth justified by the fact
that teen use has gone up
that's no longer there anymore so the
new administration is going to take a
fresh look at this have to take a fresh
look at all of the science done by the
Obama administration and actually look
to people who have been doing the
science looking at the actual data
looking at U.S. exposure, U.S. use and
looking at other countries such as
England where they actually have good
science backed up by data where you
actually have significant numbers of
people quitting smoking as we do in the
U.S. and then actually turn that into the
science to make good policy on it and
we're not doing that here in the U.S.
Maybe things will change. We hope so.
Another another surprising fact for all
of us in the industry when we see these kind of
statements, who really holds their feet
to the fire when a scientist makes a
statement that is completely unfounded
or even when when people announcing the
Deeming Rule stated that it was the most
revolutionary act to to protect the
children the children from nicotine and
in fact the only child friendly
provision in the deeming rule is the age
verification provision, how can people
get away with saying things that are not
supported by science and and there are
really purely speculative and nobody
really calls them onto that? What should
be done? You know I asked this very
question to Mitch Zeller, the head of
tobacco control of the FDA at a
conference where he was celebrating
ironically i believe it was two years
ago at the 50th anniversary of the 1964
Surgeon General's report they had
held a big event to say what a great
thing they had done, and Mitch Zeller was
there to celebrate it and the head of
the the former head of the tobacco
products scientific advisory committee
was there and he had said in a report
published in I believe in California
newspaper that were worried about
nicotine worried about nicotine because
not only can you become addicted to it
by smoking or using e-cigarettes but if
there's nicotine on the upholstery then
through exposure to the skin, your body
can absorb nicotine and even if you're
not a nicotine user you can become
addicted to nicotine. It's such an absurd
argument not backed up by any science
and I had this opportunity where Mitch
Zeller was standing next to at a press
conference the person who was quoted as
saying that I took the opportunity to
ask the scientist who said that in the
release was quoted as saying that
newspaper was that a misquote? I'm hoping
that was a misquote and he said no, well it's
fact, there's science that if nicotine and dermal
exposure through the skin.
Somehow that got him to reach that
conclusion and I was giving him the
opportunity to say no it was misquoted and
he doubled-down Patricia. He said no, it
can happen and then I had the
opportunity to look Mitch Zeller in the
eye and say as a scientist who is
affiliated with with the FDA, I know it's
your job as a regulatory agency to
crackdown on industry if they say anything
unscientific. Does the FDA have an
obligation to tell the public and if
there is scientific misinformation
certainly from one of its tip sack
members, from a scientist that the FDA
engages with, does the FDA have an
obligation to correct the record and
tell us that no you can't become
addicted to nicotine through a couch? And
he looked me in the eye and he said our
role at the FDA is to have
authority over the industry. Congress
gave us that authority and that is our
obligation. In other words they have
authority with industry but not over the
tobacco products scientific advisory
committee whom FDA appoints. Nor does
the FDA recognize that it has an
obligation to actually give
science-based information
to the public. Look the industry is not
allowed to talk about lower-risk
products without going through all
the FDA approval processes. The industry
can't make a low risk claim. If there are
government officials, if there are respected
scientists saying this in the media, if
the industry can't do it, I was asking
Mitch Zeller, well doesn't the FDA see of
its obligation to correct the record to
make sure that people can make informed
decisions about the choices they make?
Apparently not. That leaves it to your
viewers Patricia, that leaves it to the
people watching this video to educate
themselves and to engage in the process
because industry can't do it and the FDA
has stated it won't do it.
It's up to the people to engage, to educate
themselves, and then to actually
recognize that the obligation is on them.
Don't count on industry and don't count
the FDA. In all fairness to Mr. Zeller,
he did state on numerous occasions that
nicotine is not the problem and he even
conceded that to the individual
switching to a product such as vaping
would be beneficial to the individual,
him or herself, but didn't really go
further and in fact that in itself was
always quantified or qualified by a
statement about public impact of use of
nicotine products where really the
waters are going to be muddled
inevitably because there are so many
patterns of use, still use, switching
back, relapse and so on. Of course, time will
tell what truly the population level
impact will be of these product but
there are really no indications that the
the trends are not there to show this
immense uptick in smoking or some
other bad influences of or results.
Increase in nicotine use overall. No, it's not there.
but i would make the point
that you know that you correctly pointed
out that Mitch Zeller has talked about
the fact that the dangers of smoking is
not from the nicotine, it's from the use
of combustible tobacco. He has said that.
But then he said that you know if that's
the case then why are these Deeming
Regulation so bad he has said that
Congress gave him a certain Authority
and he has to regulate within the
authority given to him by Congress. We
can disagree with his interpretation but
if that's the FDA's interpretation
of the of the law, well then there's a
fix. There are two possible fixes. One through
litigation which your company has boldly
been out in front of and two, change the
law. We don't need bad policy if we have
laws that give us better policy, we can
challenge those laws in court. If the law
is not being applied right or if the law
is being applied right if the court says
no the FDA is doing just fine then we
can change the law.The only way we can change
the law is if the people engage if the
people go out and vote make sure they
have people elected that can change the
law. A lot of that's been done. I think now
it's up to the people to educate the
people they elected to make sure that
the laws are changed in a way that
protects public health, that give people
a choice, information to make informed
decisions.
it's not going to happen on its own. It's
not let sit back and wait.
The only way to do it is to educate
yourself to speak out and then to
actually get involved and do it because I
guarantee you the FDA isn't interested
in promoting harm reduction. That's not
appear so at least from from some of
their statements. More importantly also
Mitch Zeller said that this is not a spectator
sport and everybody has to get in the
ring and we agree with that. We do
see an opportunity now with the new
administration, hopefully one of our
future webinars will talk about what are
the options. As a conclusion
what do you see a timeline more or less
for four more aggressive communication
on the side of the government on this
issue?
In an ideal world
with a new FDA Commissioner in place
what should they change and I'm not
talking discreet you know rules
regulation but what should they change
in their approach to really truly serve
public health with respect to this issue
the opportunity presented by vaping
products versus conventional smoking? I
think the FDA by law has freedom to
share scientific information with the
public.
I think the FDA needs to re-engage
on the Deeming Regulations and you
know many times we see regulatory
agencies lobby Congress to change the
law because it feel like it doesn't have
enough power it feels like a lot
restrained them too much. I think the new
FDA needs to go back to Congress
and say you know this law that you gave
us that we've got the FDA has been
implementing not such a good law it
wasn't really written for you figure out
that didn't harm reduction in mind and
the agency and the agency doesn't like
to admit this unless its lobbying. The
agency has the authority has the ability
to go back to Congress and so you know
our authority should be changed and
educate Congress about how that
authority should be changed. So I believe
that the FDA should take a proactive
approach to harm reduction if there are
any laws that limit the administration's
ability to advance public health, then it
needs to fix the law and the agency can,
you know the new administration can
use its ability to educate the public
and to educate Congress to advance a
harm reduction approach and I believe
that the new administration should and
optimistically I believe they will do
that. Very well and of course we all know
that changing the law takes bipartisan
support and it takes a long time. There
of course was many priorities in in our
Senate and Congress for sure.
In the meantime, however, of course FDA
can exercise enforcement discretion on
a number of provisions of the Deeming
Rule, which also will be an avenue that
is more immediate. FDA exercises
enforcement discretion all the time on a
number of matters and the regulated
product. Time will tell.
Of course, we will continue to keep you
updated on all developments.
Just recently, we also saw that FDA
already extended some some deadlines
that were stipulated in the Deeming Rule
and that is a positive sign that they
understand how onerous the compliance is
for the small, in particular the
small players in the industry.
Thank you very much for your time. We
really hope to see you back in a few
months and we hope to be able to discuss
the new administration and its impact on
on public health and on FDA as it
pertains to vaping. Thank you for having
me on Patricia. Looking forward to having
you as our guest for a future webinar
and thank you very much for your
continued attention.

OnePlus 3 Android 7.0 Nougat Beta, all the new features! - Duration: 4:13.Hello welcome to a new video of Urban Tecno.
We continue to review the work of the manufacturers when it comes to updating their devices, especially
their star products.
We already saw it with Samsung and its S7 edge and today it is the turn to OnePlus 3,
which along with its successor OnePlus 3T was called to be one of the best-selling mobile
phones for its excellent price.
The jump to Android 7.0 Nougat is about to arrive officially but for the moment we can
only enjoy its news in Beta format and is precisely the version we have tested.
Oxygen OS is practically the only layer of Android customization that I can recommend
beyond Android Puro, for its minimalist inspiration and for trying only to contribute in specific
sections on an already excellent version as it is Android as Google develops it.
With Android 7.0 come some news to all devices that support it really interesting.
The first of them, the expandable notifications, which have improved again as we saw in the
release video of this version, and OnePlus has incorporated without adding anything else.
And you have chosen well.
Being able to answer, discard or respond to notifications one by one even if they are
from the same application is something really useful, no other mobile operating system has
this level regarding notifications.
Also new developments in the multiventano mode, now being able to dock two applications
at the same time each in one half of the screen.
It seems that the applications of OnePlus have not yet been adapted to this mode, we
hope they do soon, although if I am honest is not the novelty that I have used, in a
mobile format I think it is not the best experience to use Two applications at a time, although
in specific cases can be useful.
But what is really useful is to press the multitask button twice to go to the last open
app, it is something I have already commented several times, and even at the risk of being
heavy, it is those details that come with a new version and That I have clear that will
not leave until no one finds something better.
Let's go now to where OnePlus contributes its bit with this update.
At the level of design retouching, visual style, the first change we see in the notifications
panel, cleaner, with a tone that changes the green by the blue as in the application of
adjustments, following the lines we saw in The Google Pixel, although it is something
that we can change from the Screen menu in the Settings.
We also found a major change in the customization section where OnePlus has wanted to make stronger,
the so-called Shelf, or side panel on the main desk.
Personally I hardly use it, but both the transition to this panel and its design, now with white
cards on a translucent background and cleaner have been the main changes.
As you know, we can delete and activate this menu when we want, as well as enable two gestures
that are very useful as scroll down to slide the notifications panel, as well as up to
open the search bar.
From the customization menu itself we can also enable the option of not having applications
box in the purest style of Apple iOS, something that most Chinese firms have adopted, having
all the apps on the home desktops.
For tastes the colors.
In general is a very good update, not a great draft as the news are few, but mostly well
spun, adopted and can be very useful.
OnePlus continues to grow strong with software that flows wildly and remains the first to
recommend in the Android world.
What did you think this version with Oxygen OS, you expected some more radical change
of image?
Tell us everything in the comments, and leave us a Like if you liked this video.
Also subscribe because we have a very interesting start to the year with a draw that starts
tomorrow and that has a lot to do with this video, I say no more.
A greeting and until the next guys!

December 2016 favourites feat. Hourglass, Sephora, Modcloth, Zara ect | Giugizu - Duration: 14:09.>> Hi and welcome or welcome back to my channel
I'm Giuliana and as you may have guessed from my nasal voice I have got a cold
because of course I had to end while being sick
the perfect ending for a shitty year
but I decided I didn't want that to affect me and to pretend that I'm perfectly healthy
and to go straight and film the last video of 2016
in fact right after this video will be up I'll take a few well deserved weeks off
because I really need some rest
and I'll be back in January
so be patient about my schmurf voice
and let's get started with my December favourites
as usual I'll talk about skin care, make up, clothes, shoes and much more
and basically everything I've been loving in the past month.
now If you're ready I think we should get started with skin care as usual
I just have one skincare favourite to share with you
and it's by Fresh, a brand that unfortunately is very hard to buy in Italy
I usually buy it or in the U.K. or in the U.S. and I still couldn't find it on sale online either
so if you know where I can buy it leave a comment
because it's one of my favourite skincare brands
but let's get to my December favourite product
which is this one, the black tea firming overnight mask
a mask that you leave on all night
let's say it's in between a mask and a night cream because
you apply it before going to bed, you leave it on all night and in the morning you simply wash your face
but it's not annoying to apply, it's not sticky, it soaks in quickly, just like a night cream
and it's firming and reviving and it also help the natural regeneration of the skin
I really liked it, now I won't be able to smell it
but I remember that
Yep, I can't smell a thing, but it smelled amazing
and I love the texture too, because it's rich, but easy to apply, non sticky and it soaks in quickly.
if you happen to travel to the U.K. have a look for this brand because it's worth a try
Ok, now let's talk about make up!
Once again I don't have a ton of products, I just have 2, but I definitely enjoyed both a lot
the first one is an Hourglass foundation
I already told you in one of my previous videos * coughs* sorry about that
that Hourglass is finally available in Sephora, or at least it's in the store near where I live, it's not yet available online
or at least it wasn't the last time I checked
but I guess it should be available in other stores around Italy, go check it out because Hourglass it's an interesting brand to try
I was looking for a new foundation
but as I told you in my 2016 best of beauty
it's quite hard for me to find the right foundation because I have a combination to oily skin
I need a good in between and I really liked this one which is
the immaculate liquid powder foundation mattifying oil-free
so it's mattifying, oil-free which means it's not greasy
and it has a powder effect even if it's actually a creamy foundation
I really like it, because it's matte, but not too much so it's not cackey, it has a good coverage, but with a very natural finish
so there are good chances it will end up in next year best of beauty because I'm loving it
my second make up favourite was inside one of my birthday presents
Sephora's advent calendar
because as I was born in November I often get advent calendars are birthday gifts
and I really like that, so friends, if you are watching
advent calendars are always appreciated
and thanks to Bettina who gifted it to me this year
among the various items included I found a blush
from their colorful line, I had never tried one because I never had the chance
I didn't choose the shade, because as I said, I found it in the advent calendar, but it's the sweet on you one
and I liked it a lot, I'm wearing it now and I've been using it throughout December, and it's
bright but not too in the face, quite natural and it adds
some color to the cheecks making your face look more alive and healthy
which is a look I'm definitely going for right now
well let's say I would love to be healty in general, but that's another story
so the second product is Sephora colorful blush
as last thing I have a fragrance that I decided to include in the make up section because I never know where to feature perfumes
sorry about that ...it's a Jo Malone fragrance and it's a Chirstmas present I bought for myself
Jo Malone it's an english brand, I already feature it in some of my previous videos
I'm obsessed with its perfumes, my favourite one is English Pear and Freesia
but I was looking for something more suitable for Winter and I went for the nutmeg and ginger one
and it's a fragrance...why am I pretending I can smell it?
Oh wait I can smell something
Anyway I love it because it's...
I will never be able to describe a scent, but as you may guess it smells of nutmeg and ginger, two very festive scents in my opinion
and I went for the small size because I think that after the holidays I'll get back to my beloved english pear and freesia
and those were my 3 make up favourites
now let's move to the clothes section
because taking advantage of the black friday sales and Christmas in general in the past month I bought some cute new things
that I would like to share with you, so let's talk about clothes!
In December I bought again from one of my favourite online stores, Modcloth
an american store
I stopped buying from it because the issue with buying in the U.S.
is that when something doesn't fit right is very expensive to send the goods back
so I ended up keeping pieces that were not right for me
but I always like to check the new arrivals because they have some unique and beautiful clothes
and in fact in December I bought 2 things..
well actually it's 3 things, but I'll talk about the last one later on
and I'm in love with all of them, they are quite basic, but the basics are also the clothes that I end up wearing the most
the first one is this white sweater
in light wool, with 3 quarter sleeve and these adorable bows and some flattering cuts at the end of the sleeve
the neck is straight, I don't know how it's called though
I love how it fits, because it's tight
and even if it's white it doesn't make me look fatter than I am
and in fact I've been wearing it a lot in December
the second piece I bought on Modcloth is a skirt
I've been looking for a good velvet skirt for a while, I want it to be simple
then I spotted this one and BAM I found the right one
it's a flared black velvet midi skirt, it's simple just as I wanted it
it is usually hard for me to find a skirt that fits right and Modcloth is almost always the right place for that
and I wasn't disappointed this time either
I went back to buy from Zara too which for years has been a store in which I rarely managed to find something I liked
while this time I found 3 pieces I loved
the first one is really simple
it's a check shirt dress
it's flared, in a soft flannel and super comfy
I've been wearing it a lot in December because it's really comfy. It's a bit short for me to wear as a dress though
so I usually paired it with leggings and boots
the other two pieces I got are a little more peculiar
the first one is this faux fur leopard coat
to be honest I've been looking for something like this for a while, but I never manage to find one that looked right on me
because as I'm a bit chubby things like these immediately make me look like an overweight leopard or a chimpanzee
while this has the right length, it's soft and cozy and really warm
I bought it at the beginning of the month and I've been wearing it non stop since then
because it's warm, soft, it makes me feel cuddled
and it's a statement piece that stands out
There are also some other ones available, a bit longer, while this is a mid length which I thought would suit me better
but if you're looking for this kind of faux furs check out Zara because they have some nice ones
then, just as I was leaving the store I noticed...
this hat
and I was looking for a hat that fitted me right, because usually I look awful in hats and this one was just perfect
I was looking for a hat just like this one
so when I spotted it I tried it on, it fitted right, which is a miracle because I have a huge head and hats rarely fit on me
while this one fitted and I loved the idea of wearing it with the fur coat
and in fact I've been wearing them together throughout december and they kept me warm when it rained and snowed
ok, now let's move to the random favourites because I have a few cute thngs to share
Here we are in the random section, as I told you I have some cute things to share and I got the first ones
on Modcloth and I'm talking about Frida Kahlo tea towels
I couldn't resist buying them because anything Frida related is like a drug for me, I have to have it
so as I was checking the site I ended up in the home section with a lot of cute things
among which these tea towels
and I bought them because I couldn't resist
and of course I had to feature them among my December faves
the second random favourite is a Christmas present I got from one of my friends
and it has been in the background of this video the whole time
and it's this one
a cinematic lightbox with removable letters
so you can write whatever you want, as you can see I wrote Dec 2016 faves
I think it's just perfect to keep in the background of my videos because I can write each time what I want
and I must say I was going to buy it anyway but I have so many things that I stopped myself
but I have to thank my friend Sandy for gifting it to me, because I love it
and in fact there it is!
Ok, we made it to the end just while my battery started to flash and tell me that it's running out of charge
I hope that you enjoyed my December favourites and that you got inspired, if so don't forget to give this video a thumbs up
share and favourite it if you liked it and of course if you haven't yet subscribe
in order not to miss any new video next year because I already have a lot of ideas in mind ready to be shared with you
As I said at the beginning of the video now I'll take a few weeks off because I really need some rest
So I wish you all a happy new year, start it in the best way possible
I send you a huge kiss and I'll see you in January, I don't know exactely when yet
let's say as soon as I'll have recovered from this shitty year
Ok, that's really it, kisses, I'll see you in my next one, ciao!

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) - causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, pathology - Duration: 6:31.Atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema is a skin rash that's particularly common among young
children, but can last into adulthood.
"Atopic" refers to an allergy, "derm" refers to the skin, and "itis" refers
to inflammation.
So atopic dermatitis describes skin inflammation that results from an allergy, more specifically,
it happens when the immune system attacks the skin causing a dry, itchy rash on flexor
surfaces of the body, areas like the creases of the wrists, the insides of the elbows,
and the backs of the knees, as well as exposed skin surfaces like on the face, the hands,
and the feet.
When the immune system inappropriately starts attacking itself, we call that a hypersensitivity
reaction, and there are four types.
Atopic dermatitis is a type 1 hypersensitivity reaction, and it starts off with something
in the environment called an allergen, like flower pollen.
The pollen is able to travel through the slightly porous skin, where it gets picked up by an
immune cell in the tissue just below.
The immune cell is called an antigen presenting cell because it presents a bit of the allergen
to a naive T helper cell, activating it into a Th2 cell.
This Th2 cell then stimulates a nearby B cell to start producing IgE or immunoglobulin E
antibodies specific to that pollen.
Those IgE antibodies bind to the surface of other immune cells called mast cells, as well
as basophils, which can be found in the tissue layer just below the surface of the skin,
and this process called "sensitization".
Now, let's say that there's a second exposure to pollen that makes it's way into the skin
tissue.
Now, the allergen can cross-link the IgE on these sensitized cells, resulting in degranulation
or release of a number of proinflammatory molecules like histamine, leukotrienes, and
proteases.
The combined effect of these molecules is to cause nearby blood vessels to dilate and
become leaky as well as attract even more immune cells to the area creating inflammation
of the skin tissue.
Ultimately, the inflammation makes the skin barrier more "leaky", potentially allowing
in more of the allergen, while at the same time allowing water to escape, leaving the
skin dry and scaly.
Dry skin is very itchy, and scratching further damages the skin barrier, worsening the process
and setting up a vicious cycle of allergy-mediated inflammation, dry skin, and itching which
characterizes atopic dermatitis.
Occasionally, bacteria can invade the damaged skin causing even more inflammation.
In infants, the rash is most often on the face and scalp, and in children, the rash
is usually on flexor surfaces of extremities.
Atopic dermatitis can worsen in the presence of allergens like cigarette smoke, mold, and
dust mites, as well as changes in the weather, and even emotional stress.
Although it usually causes patches of red itchy skin that come and go, the skin can
occasionally even blister and peel.
Over time, the skin can become lichenified, which literally means turned to leather.
Itchiness is often worst at night, perhaps because there are no distractions, and this
is often when young children are most likely to scratch at their eczema lesions.
Because eczema is an autoimmune mediated process, it cannot be spread to other people, but since
it affects the skin and therefore the way a person looks, there is still a lot of social
stigma associated with it.
Unfortunately, many individuals especially teenagers and young adults with atopic dermatitis
suffer from depression and social anxiety as a result.
Genetics plays an important role in atopic dermatitis, and individuals with atopic dermatitis
often also have asthma, as well as allergic rhinitis, making up what's called the atopic
triad.
These illnesses also often run in families.
Occasionally, atopic dermatitis can be part of a syndrome like Hyper IgE syndrome, which
has an autosomal dominant form commonly called Job syndrome, phenylketonuria, which is a
metabolic disorder that results from a buildup of the amino acid phenylalanine, and Wiskott-Aldrich
syndrome, which is an X-linked recessive disease characterized by a clinical triad of eczema,
thrombocytopenia, and immunodeficiency.
Atopic dermatitis is generally a clinical diagnosis, and there are ways to help break
the cycle of allergy-mediated inflammation, dry skin, and itching.
With regard to allergy-mediated inflammation it's important to identify and avoid any
triggers, as well as avoiding overheating, dressing in soft fabrics, and managing stress
well, which is of course a good life habit anyway.
Dry skin can be managed with frequent moisturization, which is usually best to apply after a lukewarm
bath.
And itching can sometimes be managed with simple measures like keeping fingernails short,
and trying to keep children from scratching.
But in more extreme cases, there are also steroids and calcineurin inhibitors both of
which aim to dampen the immune reaction, as well as antihistamines that can help with
itching, and antibiotics to help treat infections if their needed.
Alright, as a quick recap, atopic dermatitis also called atopic eczema, is a type 1 hypersensitivity
reaction in the skin, and is characterized by a cycle of allergy-mediated inflammation,
dry skin, and itching that most commonly affects infants and young children.
Atopic dermatitis can be managed by minimizing exposure to allergens, keeping the skin hydrated,
and minimizing itching.

You Don't Even Want To Know About Bacteria On The Space Station - Duration: 4:52.When I was in Middle School, we wandered around and put tape on the phone, the lockers, the
toilets, our history teacher -- then we'd culture the bacteria.
They made us stop after we accidentally cultured strep throat.
Yo, what up?
The space station!
That's what!
I'm Trace, thanks for continuing to watch DNews after that "joke."
The problem with those tape experiments is we always assume it's toilets that are the
grossest, but it's more commonly things like shared landline phones or door handles!
If you watch movies about space stations you probably think of them as futuristic… and
the future?
Super clean, right?
The thing is… like anywhere else humans inhabit: space stations are super gross.
Even after a shower, there are potentially many billions of bacteria and fungi on your
skin; there's no escaping them.
So, when you're trapped in a canister above the Earth they exist there too!
During the 15-year flight of Soviet (then Russia's) Mir, cosmonauts would regularly
clean the surfaces of the space station to fight the scourge of bacteria and fungi, but
in 1998 U.S. astronauts opened a "rarely-accessed panel" and found a "large free-floating
mass of water" the size of a basketball.
Without gravity, moisture had begun to coalesce, forming spheres.
The Mir crew then embarked on what must have been a truly disgusting hunt, and found two
more globules… and get this, they had color.
Two were brownish, and a third was "cloudy white."
They sucked some up for samples, and found "amoebas and protozoa," and "dust mites."
Blech.
Space is a crazy place, it's not like you can open the window and air it out.
Whatever lives on you or me, hitches a ride to what may be bacterial heaven… a PLOS
One study from November 2016 found bacteria loooove space.
They're even better at forming biofilms, creating higher density populations, and may
even be more capable of causing disease up there!
Another study in PeerJ found Bacillus safensis -- grows 60-percent better in space.
Fun and scary fact: it got it's name Safensis after it was found on spacecraft at the Kennedy
Space Center's, Spacecraft Assembly Facility (SAF).
New species, all thanks to space exploration.
More recently, in a study of the Japanese module, Kibo -- that was basically like putting
tape around my school -- astronauts took samples from the incubator, an air intake, air diffuser,
and (bum-bum-bum) a handrail.
Their paper, published in npj Microgravity, noted that Staphylococcaceae and Enterobacteriaceae
were the most common on the space station -- normally they're found on human palms,
and species of these can cause some nasty illnesses…
Salmonella is a type of Enterobacteria, and in tests done with mice, salmonella flown
into space killed the mice two days earlier than regular salmonella.
Wheee!
The space industry is taking this seriously.
In this study, they also found species related to the human stomach, as well as those from
water and land-based ecosystems.
Another study in Microbiome found Actinobacteria -- important for soil systems on Earth, but
also a possible cause of skin irritations and inflammations.
And this is a humans-in-space problem.
Before it was launched, Kibo was scrubbed with isopropyl alcohol, and had less than
200 bacteria per square centimeter, but after a few years in space, there were 50 times
more!
On Earth, bacteria have to compete with chlorines, soaps and other naturally-occurring chemicals,
naturally antibacterial minerals like copper, other predatory and competitive species, and
of course the never-ending UV blast from the sun.
In an effort to keep bacteria from taking over the football-field-sized flying hamster
tubes -- space-bound humans keep very clean and are tested, and space-bound equipment
is cleaned and sanitized… but as we said, that's not always enough.
The problem with bacteria on space stations, is that we don't always know what they are!
Species have to be collected, transported back to ground, and then DNA sequenced and
analyzed.
NASA is working on something called the LOCAD-PTS, the Lab-On-a-Chip Application Development–Portable
Test System, which will (hopefully) be able to test surfaces for pathogens in minutes,
rather than culturing in a lab.
As we look to asteroids, Mars, or beyond… we'll need to figure this out.
If we don't, we could end up with the nightmare scenario: a bacteria or fungus that naturally
lives in (or on) humans, that thrives and mutates in space, and causes a rapid onset
illness millions of miles from home.
It sounds like a movie plot, but top scientists are working making sure we never have to make
that biopic.
Ha!
Biopic!

I've been looking for a good velvet skirt for a while, I want it to be simple

it is usually hard for me to find a skirt that fits right and Modcloth is almost always the right place for that

this hat
and I was looking for a hat that fitted me right, because usually I look awful in hats and this one was just perfect

Atopic dermatitis can be managed by minimizing exposure to allergens, keeping the skin hydrated,
and minimizing itching.

that the ultimate resource is
resourcefulness now it's really hard to
disagree with that i will add though
that the ultimate resource the ultimate
resource fulness is our capacity to love
love is not something that we have to
learn or that we have to earn were born
into this world giving love to whoever
touches us to whoever we lay eyes on
without saying a word or doing a thing
we inspire others to love us within
moments of our birth
love is such a constant in life that we
sometimes forget that it's there it's
kind of fish and water not really
realizing that it's in water because
that's all it knows how you express love
and how you receive love isn't art its
The Art of Living love inspires love
creates love is an unlimited resource
always ready to be expressed
I used to think that the opposite of
love was fear but now what I've learned
is that love has no opposite fear is the
delusion that we might not be loved or
that love will be taken away from us
it's that fear that drive suffering it's
that fear that keeps you from reaching
your potential is that that's that fear
that hold you back
it's fear that creates all division and
conflict and we can still love even when
we're afraid staying
nected to love that gets us through
those hard times in those fears it
staying connected to love that makes it
so that fear can ever stop you imagine
if you felt loved and supported and you
knew you would be loved and supported no
matter what you do no matter how many
times you fail no matter how many times
you get rejected all right no matter how
many times life shits on you that you
would be loved and supported and you can
do pretty much anything and still be
loved and supported what could you not
do what could what would you not create
what would you not attempt what would
you not try what we do not go far in
life
guess what you are loved your being is
love and no one can ever take that away
from you when you truly understand this
you will be unstoppable
fear will never hold you back ever again
so what stops you from understanding
this if you think you have to learn love
if you think that you have to first
deserve love or that you have to wait
around for someone to love you this is
what is creating your fears your
disappointments you're suffering and
this is what blinds you to the truth of
who you are know that you are pure love
it is you're being it is your nature
life is love

Q&A with Jeff Stier | Nicopure Labs - Duration: 24:42.Good afternoon thank you for joining us
for yet another very interesting
interview, I'm Patricia Kovacevic, general
counsel and chief compliance officer at
the Nicopure labs. I'm here today with
Jeff Stier who is the senior fellow at the
National Center for Public Policy
Research. He is the head of the risk
analysis division and also a non
practicing attorney. Happily non
practicing attorney. Good afternoon and
thank you for joining us. Thanks for
having me.
We're here to talk about the recent U.S.
Surgeon General's report and a couple of
other developments regarding the vaping
industry. As you all know, a few weeks ago,
the U.S. Surgeon General has
published its report on electronic
cigarettes and some of the conclusions
drawn in that report are concerning. In
your opinion Jeff, what is the
significance of this report and what can
you tell us about the timing of it.
Well, it wasn't simply a report
by the Surgeon General. It was a Surgeon
General's report which has historical
significance because in 1964, the Surgeon
General released a report on smoking and
that was a very important and bold
document at a time when people didn't know
that smoking was horrible.
This surgeon general's report on vaping,
vaping and youth is actually not only
doesn't only lack the
bold approach of that original Surgeon
General's report. It's actually
purposefully misleading because it only
focuses on youth and there is no
controversy in the scientific community,
in the vaping community, anywhere!
Kids shouldn't use e-cigarettes whether
they have nicotine or not
period end of story. There is no
controversy.The Surgeon General didn't
solving problems. His report only
confused people by suggesting
e-cigarettes are so dangerous and such a
problem when we know kids shouldn't be
using them in the real area where the
public needs more information and more
education is how can e-cigarettes be
used, if at all, to reduce harm from
smoking. The Surgeon General would have
been wise to follow the report of Public
Health England, the largest landmark
government study on these
to date, which of course said kids
shouldn't using cigarettes but talked
about how they are a potential boon to
public health. The Royal College of
Physicians similarly, also way ahead of
the Surgeon General, obviously agreed
kids shouldn't use e-cigarettes but the
Royal College of Physicians suggested
doctors encourage their patients who
smoke to quit smoking using e-cigarettes
because they can help people reduce
their risk.They're ninety-five percent
less harmful than smoking and they're
not a gateway to smoking, so the Surgeon
General who claimed he had two years of
work on this had a hundred and fifty or
more experts advising him seem to only
be able to focus on an area where there
is no debate.
Furthermore, legislation at the state
level and now federal level since
the deeming rule in fact bans the sales
of vaping products to minors and we know
that FDA in fact has done some work in
enforcement in the area of retail age
verification and sales to minors, so
clearly that is the premise that the
industry as well as public health start
from kids should not have access to
nicotine containing products which is
clear but what this report seems to fail
to address is in fact by omission the
true value that these products could
present in harm reduction and it also
fails to address what basically FDA is
doing to really protect kids from the
dangers of smoking. That's an
important point I think that shows the
fact that the Surgeon General only looked at youth
use and didn't get into the potential
benefits of e-cigarettes as a tool for
harm reduction to get adult smokers not
to smoke anymore, I think the fact that
he only focused on the Surgeon General
of the focused on youth and vaping is
because this is part of the Centers for
Disease Control ideological campaign
against e-cigarettes and instead of
giving us a full picture in the full
story he focused only on youth because
it's very clear you can't see much bad
about e-cigarettes and adult smokers we
want them to switch so this is the
reason he only focused on kids was
because this was a Surgeon General's
report which is a Surgeon General's report is
and is supposed to mean something
was being used as a political tool to
advance the Obama administration
campaign against e-cigarettes to support
the FDA's deeming regulation to support
the Center for Disease Control campaign
against e-cigarettes. I think this was a
parting shot from the Obama
administration's Surgeon General.
What measures should the new administration
take in order to at least mitigate some
of the communication damage that this U.S.
Surgeon General report has in fact
accomplished?
Well first and foremost, the Surgeon
General has a four-year term. He was
appointed two years ago so we've got
about another two years left in his term
yet the Surgeon General can be fired by
the president for cause, for doing
something wrong, for not doing his job
right. I will argue that and I will argue
in the upcoming administration that this
report is cause. This report proves that
the Surgeon General has been acting in
the political way and and the office of
Surgeon General was supposed to be above
politics and this report unfortunately
shows that he was just a yeah this
Surgeon General was a supporter of
President Obama before he was appointed
Surgeon General. He was actually an activist
in favor of president Obama, supporting his
ideological campaigns and this shows
that the new administration needs to
fire this attorney general this Surgeon
General we know he likes firing people
apparently but this is an opportunity
for the administration to say we're
going to put the politics of this aside
and get a fresh start with Surgeon
General. There's a lot of the new
administration can do that may require
five more podcast but with regard to the
Surgeon General, he hasn't done much. He
did this and he shouldn't keep his job.
More importantly if you go to the
Surgeon General's web page there is an
infographic that if if you're not a
vaper, if you're not really very
familiar with vaping and you're a smoker
and perhaps want to quit if you go
through that through that
click through web page through talking
about children mainly but you would I
think reach the conclusion
that vaping is outright dangerous, should
be avoided any cost, and it's a gateway
to a lot of other really bad forms of
addiction. Is there really any evidence
to that? I think we can all agree with
what we could quibble with some of the
the science and some of the strength of
the science behind it, we got all agree
unequivocally that kids should not use
e-cigarettes whether they have nicotine in
them or they don't.
The Surgeon General of course pointed
out that nicotine is bad for the
developing brain. I don't think anyone's
going to disagree that kids shouldn't
the kids unquestionably without any
hesitation should never use any
e-cigarette product but to kind of say
that e-cigarettes are so bad because of
the nicotine, apparently even for adults
then that raises questions why should
someone quit smoking and switch to
e-cigarettes if they're also
really bad so the government's approach
and that for the new administration my
advice is to treat different products
according to their risk. Focus on adult
smokers, give them the information based
on science that they need to make
informed decisions about their health
about the choices they make. That's the
only way to get people to change
behavior is to give them information
where they can make decisions on their
own. I don't know of any kids
who are going to quit smoking because of
the Surgeon General's report on smoking
or I don't know any kids who aren't
going to quit vaping if they vape based on
the Surgeon General's report. We need to
give people accurate science-based
information so they can make informed
decisions and the Surgeon General
instead focused on politics. And did a
great disservice in fact to public health
through this reckless report if you say so.
Yeah, it was also a missed opportunity
because there is one Surgeon General's
report on smoking. There is one, you
update it.
There's one Surgeon General's report on
vaping. This report was a huge missed
opportunity to have a little bit of
nuance, I think with the budget he has,
with two years to work on it and with
over a hundred and fifty experts he
could have given us that more nuanced
report and say vaping is bad for kids
kids shouldn't do it and then talk about
the opportunities to dispel some of the
misinformation so many Americans still
think wrongly obviously. Some of the
Americans still think that smoking and
vaping are equally
dangerous. If the Surgeon General is
to do anything it is to add a little bit
of science to the discussion about this
and explain how dangerous cigarette
smoking is, why it's so dangerous and
then it's easy to conclude that you the
use of e-cigarettes by adult smokers can
dramatically reduce their risk, just as the
Royal College of Physicians and Public
Health England have been telling people
based on the science. On the heels of the
U.S. Surgeon General report, only days
after a new report came out monitoring
the future which discusses trends in
teenagers of different addictive
substances and interestingly the the
numbers in that report tell an
interesting story.
Yeah and this is a National Institute of
Drug Abuse funded study at University of
Michigan that has been reporting every
every year or every two years on the use of
tobacco products, on the use of also
e-cigarettes. I still refuse to call them
tobacco products and in previous years,
it showed an increase in the use of
e-cigarettes among youth. Now obviously
there's been an increase in the use of
e-cigarettes among youth over the past
five years because there weren't, there
was no popularity of these products.
That's like saying. They didn't exist 7 or 8 years
ago.
That's like saying the use of iphones
has gone up a hundred percent in the
last four years, six years.
Well, when you go back 10 years there
were no iphones, so of course the numbers
have gone up but interestingly Patricia
this year the use of e-cigarettes among
teens has gone down and while the number
of e-cigarette while the amount of
e-cigarette use was going up over time
among kids even though this year it went
down, while that number was going up it
is interesting that their smoking
rates went down. All along. During that
time period. Now is it possible that kids
who were on a trajectory to begin using
to begin smoking actually instead of
using e-cigarettes as a gateway
toward smoking actually use them as an
off-ramp to smoking and didn't smoke as
a result of e-cigarettes. That's
something that the report
didn't draw a conclusion about previous
years. This year e-cigarette use among
teens went down. I think that's
significant and I think it it takes away
from the argument that the Surgeon
General made in his report which was
that we ought to have sin taxes on
e-cigarettes to keep kids from vaping
because he argued there's been this huge
increase. Well now there is not an
increase, there is actually a decrease. I don't
think the Surgeon General can change his
opinion on that because it wasn't based
on science, it was based on ideology but
I think it's important to note that this
report which was drafted, which was
written by these experts at University
of Michigan, no friends of vaping came
out the way it did. But at the end of the
report in spite of the numbers showing
downwards trend in electronic cigarettes
and the downward trend in even in
smoking and to follow up on what you
said as a cohort you would have expected
to see maybe an optical smoking if truly
e-cigarettes were a gateway.
However, in spite of these reassuring
numbers one of the authors of the report,
the lead author, actually drew a
very puzzling conclusion.
Yeah well he said in in this is in the
press release and this is common. You
know I deal with a wide range of public
health policy topics not just
e-cigarettes. Public health, food safety,
nutrition, obesity, environmental health,
and one thing that I see all the time is
a scientific report that reaches a
certain conclusion and then a press
release that draws entirely new
conclusions that I'm not sure where they
got them from. This is sadly a very good
example of it. The lead author of the
press release, the lead author of the
scientific report said quoted in the
University of Michigan press release
something along the lines of while
vaping may cause social networks that
people become friends from vaping and
then they could eventually go on to
smoke so vaping is a problem. Excuse me?
It would be very difficult to come to an
actual scientific conclusion based on
data that simply asks people how much do
you vape, maybe where you vape and so on.
It will be very difficult to draw those
conclusions. So I think the one conclusion
that you could draw is that the lead
author of this report is not a friend of
vaping. Yet even his own study tells us
that youth vaping rates have gone down.
To me that totally takes away any
argument that the Surgeon General has to
back up his political claim that we
ought to be taxing cigarettes and by the
way for the Surgeon General in a
scientific report to be making these
types of policy recommendations raises
questions, but let's leave that aside. The
basis for that political argument that
we should have a cigarette taxes to
preventing youth justified by the fact
that teen use has gone up
that's no longer there anymore so the
new administration is going to take a
fresh look at this have to take a fresh
look at all of the science done by the
Obama administration and actually look
to people who have been doing the
science looking at the actual data
looking at U.S. exposure, U.S. use and
looking at other countries such as
England where they actually have good
science backed up by data where you
actually have significant numbers of
people quitting smoking as we do in the
U.S. and then actually turn that into the
science to make good policy on it and
we're not doing that here in the U.S.
Maybe things will change. We hope so.
Another another surprising fact for all
of us in the industry when we see these kind of
statements, who really holds their feet
to the fire when a scientist makes a
statement that is completely unfounded
or even when when people announcing the
Deeming Rule stated that it was the most
revolutionary act to to protect the
children the children from nicotine and
in fact the only child friendly
provision in the deeming rule is the age
verification provision, how can people
get away with saying things that are not
supported by science and and there are
really purely speculative and nobody
really calls them onto that? What should
be done? You know I asked this very
question to Mitch Zeller, the head of
tobacco control of the FDA at a
conference where he was celebrating
ironically i believe it was two years
ago at the 50th anniversary of the 1964
Surgeon General's report they had
held a big event to say what a great
thing they had done, and Mitch Zeller was
there to celebrate it and the head of
the the former head of the tobacco
products scientific advisory committee
was there and he had said in a report
published in I believe in California
newspaper that were worried about
nicotine worried about nicotine because
not only can you become addicted to it
by smoking or using e-cigarettes but if
there's nicotine on the upholstery then
through exposure to the skin, your body
can absorb nicotine and even if you're
not a nicotine user you can become
addicted to nicotine. It's such an absurd
argument not backed up by any science
and I had this opportunity where Mitch
Zeller was standing next to at a press
conference the person who was quoted as
saying that I took the opportunity to
ask the scientist who said that in the
release was quoted as saying that
newspaper was that a misquote? I'm hoping
that was a misquote and he said no, well it's
fact, there's science that if nicotine and dermal
exposure through the skin.
Somehow that got him to reach that
conclusion and I was giving him the
opportunity to say no it was misquoted and
he doubled-down Patricia. He said no, it
can happen and then I had the
opportunity to look Mitch Zeller in the
eye and say as a scientist who is
affiliated with with the FDA, I know it's
your job as a regulatory agency to
crackdown on industry if they say anything
unscientific. Does the FDA have an
obligation to tell the public and if
there is scientific misinformation
certainly from one of its tip sack
members, from a scientist that the FDA
engages with, does the FDA have an
obligation to correct the record and
tell us that no you can't become
addicted to nicotine through a couch? And
he looked me in the eye and he said our
role at the FDA is to have
authority over the industry. Congress
gave us that authority and that is our
obligation. In other words they have
authority with industry but not over the
tobacco products scientific advisory
committee whom FDA appoints. Nor does
the FDA recognize that it has an
obligation to actually give
science-based information
to the public. Look the industry is not
allowed to talk about lower-risk
products without going through all
the FDA approval processes. The industry
can't make a low risk claim. If there are
government officials, if there are respected
scientists saying this in the media, if
the industry can't do it, I was asking
Mitch Zeller, well doesn't the FDA see of
its obligation to correct the record to
make sure that people can make informed
decisions about the choices they make?
Apparently not. That leaves it to your
viewers Patricia, that leaves it to the
people watching this video to educate
themselves and to engage in the process
because industry can't do it and the FDA
has stated it won't do it.
It's up to the people to engage, to educate
themselves, and then to actually
recognize that the obligation is on them.
Don't count on industry and don't count
the FDA. In all fairness to Mr. Zeller,
he did state on numerous occasions that
nicotine is not the problem and he even
conceded that to the individual
switching to a product such as vaping
would be beneficial to the individual,
him or herself, but didn't really go
further and in fact that in itself was
always quantified or qualified by a
statement about public impact of use of
nicotine products where really the
waters are going to be muddled
inevitably because there are so many
patterns of use, still use, switching
back, relapse and so on. Of course, time will
tell what truly the population level
impact will be of these product but
there are really no indications that the
the trends are not there to show this
immense uptick in smoking or some
other bad influences of or results.
Increase in nicotine use overall. No, it's not there.
but i would make the point
that you know that you correctly pointed
out that Mitch Zeller has talked about
the fact that the dangers of smoking is
not from the nicotine, it's from the use
of combustible tobacco. He has said that.
But then he said that you know if that's
the case then why are these Deeming
Regulation so bad he has said that
Congress gave him a certain Authority
and he has to regulate within the
authority given to him by Congress. We
can disagree with his interpretation but
if that's the FDA's interpretation
of the of the law, well then there's a
fix. There are two possible fixes. One through
litigation which your company has boldly
been out in front of and two, change the
law. We don't need bad policy if we have
laws that give us better policy, we can
challenge those laws in court. If the law
is not being applied right or if the law
is being applied right if the court says
no the FDA is doing just fine then we
can change the law.The only way we can change
the law is if the people engage if the
people go out and vote make sure they
have people elected that can change the
law. A lot of that's been done. I think now
it's up to the people to educate the
people they elected to make sure that
the laws are changed in a way that
protects public health, that give people
a choice, information to make informed
decisions.
it's not going to happen on its own. It's
not let sit back and wait.
The only way to do it is to educate
yourself to speak out and then to
actually get involved and do it because I
guarantee you the FDA isn't interested
in promoting harm reduction. That's not
appear so at least from from some of
their statements. More importantly also
Mitch Zeller said that this is not a spectator
sport and everybody has to get in the
ring and we agree with that. We do
see an opportunity now with the new
administration, hopefully one of our
future webinars will talk about what are
the options. As a conclusion
what do you see a timeline more or less
for four more aggressive communication
on the side of the government on this
issue?
In an ideal world
with a new FDA Commissioner in place
what should they change and I'm not
talking discreet you know rules
regulation but what should they change
in their approach to really truly serve
public health with respect to this issue
the opportunity presented by vaping
products versus conventional smoking? I
think the FDA by law has freedom to
share scientific information with the
public.
I think the FDA needs to re-engage
on the Deeming Regulations and you
know many times we see regulatory
agencies lobby Congress to change the
law because it feel like it doesn't have
enough power it feels like a lot
restrained them too much. I think the new
FDA needs to go back to Congress
and say you know this law that you gave
us that we've got the FDA has been
implementing not such a good law it
wasn't really written for you figure out
that didn't harm reduction in mind and
the agency and the agency doesn't like
to admit this unless its lobbying. The
agency has the authority has the ability
to go back to Congress and so you know
our authority should be changed and
educate Congress about how that
authority should be changed. So I believe
that the FDA should take a proactive
approach to harm reduction if there are
any laws that limit the administration's
ability to advance public health, then it
needs to fix the law and the agency can,
you know the new administration can
use its ability to educate the public
and to educate Congress to advance a
harm reduction approach and I believe
that the new administration should and
optimistically I believe they will do
that. Very well and of course we all know
that changing the law takes bipartisan
support and it takes a long time. There
of course was many priorities in in our
Senate and Congress for sure.
In the meantime, however, of course FDA
can exercise enforcement discretion on
a number of provisions of the Deeming
Rule, which also will be an avenue that
is more immediate. FDA exercises
enforcement discretion all the time on a
number of matters and the regulated
product. Time will tell.
Of course, we will continue to keep you
updated on all developments.
Just recently, we also saw that FDA
already extended some some deadlines
that were stipulated in the Deeming Rule
and that is a positive sign that they
understand how onerous the compliance is
for the small, in particular the
small players in the industry.
Thank you very much for your time. We
really hope to see you back in a few
months and we hope to be able to discuss
the new administration and its impact on
on public health and on FDA as it
pertains to vaping. Thank you for having
me on Patricia. Looking forward to having
you as our guest for a future webinar
and thank you very much for your
continued attention.

Newt Gingrich Warns Of Major Surprises During President Obama's Final Weeks In Office! - Duration: 3:22.Newt Gingrich Warns Of Major Surprises During President Obama's Final Weeks In Office!
We are going to be shocked very soon with some new crazy idea and move of president
Obama in his last days in office!
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warned that President Obama could use his final weeks
in office to take major actions that will be difficult for President-elect Donald Trump
to undo, saying Mr. Obama is in a "desperate frenzy" to protect his legacy.
"His legacy is like one of those dolls that, as the air comes out of it, shrinks and shrink
and shrinks," Gingrich told Fox News on Sunday.
"The things he's done this week will be turned around … He's in this desperate
frenzy."
In recent days, Mr. Obama has issued the most pardons on a single day in U.S. history, banned
oil drilling across large parts of the Arctic and Atlantic, and scrapped a national registry
for immigrant men that mostly included Muslims.
Still, Gingrich said Mr. Trump will be able to quickly do away with many of Mr. Obama's
signature policies and actions.
"I think in the opening couple days, he's going to repeal 60 to 70 percent of Obama's
legacy by simply vetoing out all of the various executive orders that Obama used because he
couldn't get anything through Congress," he said.
As president Mr. Trump will be able to cancel or override many of Mr. Obama's executive
orders, and with a GOP-controlled Congress Mr. Trump will have the ability to push through
a legislative agenda.
However, things like dismantling the Affordable Care Act will likely prove difficult and take
more time.
Mr. Obama nodded to that in a recent interview with NPR: asked if he had advice for Mr. Trump,
Mr. Obama suggested he use the legislative process rather than executive orders to get
things done because "it's harder to undo."
Trump is going to change America!
He is going to override many of Obama rules, and also he is going to implement a lot of
his own solutions and ideas.
America is going to be great, new era is coming to America!
We are not going to believe to our eyes and ears the next few years…

Top 10 Worst Makeup Products of 2016 @phyrra - Duration: 6:24.Hey, guys.
Welcome back to my channel and hello to you new people, too.
Just a quick note before we begin.
I'm sure you're all aware of how YouTube has changed things.
You may not be getting notifications that my videos are live.
If you click on the little bell down below, it'll send you notifications whenever I upload
a video.
Today I'm bringing you the top 10 worst makeup products of 2016 according to me.
Number one, Burt's Bees BB Cream.
Initially I thought I really liked this BB cream because I was like, "Finally, it's a
drugstore foundation that matches my skin tone."
Unfortunately it turns into a greasy, disgusting mess on my dry skin.
I can't imagine who it actually works well for.
Number two, the Senna Cosmetics 80s Palette.
Now this had a lot going for it.
It had a lot that I wanted to love.
It had some purple eyeshadows that I thought were going to be great and they were terrible
for me.
The blush is nice.
The black eyeshadow is nice.
If all of the eye shadows in the palette had the same pigmentation as the black eyeshadow,
it would have been fine, but no.
The purple sucked.
The yellow was okay.
The blue was okay.
Overall I was really disappointed with it.
Number three, Tarte Shape Tape.
Now I'm sure it comes as no surprise to you that Tarte Shape Tape is on my list of worst
products of 2016 because it sucked for me.
It smelled like bug spray.
It stank so bad I ended up returning it.
I bought the shade fair neutral, which was a pretty good match for my skin tone, but
like I said, the smell was so bad I couldn't stand to wear it.
Maybe I got a bad one.
I'm not really sure but I will not buy that again.
It was terrible.
I know people rave about it and they're always like, "Oh my god.
It's the best thing ever."
Nope.
Give me Kat Von D any day.
Kat Von D doesn't stink.
Number four is the Honest Beauty Everything Primer.
I thought this primer was going to be awesome.
It gives you a nice golden beige glow, but unfortunately it's another stinky product.
The smell lingers all day.
It smells like a gross almost rotting floral type scent.
The scent lingered in my brushes.
It lingered on my face.
I'm talking from the time I put it on until I took it off.
For eight to 10 hours, all I could smell was that stinky primer.
Not good.
Number five, the Pumpkin & Poppy Vegan Eyeshadow Primer.
This is a product that I bought because I've been trying to find the perfect vegan eyeshadow
primer.
Unfortunately for me, it creases on my eyes within 20 to 30 minutes.
I even tried to shoot a makeup tutorial with this primer and my eyeshadow had slid off.
It was just not good.
It sucks because when you put it on initially, it looks great.
It gives you a slight peachy beige coloring.
It will even out any discoloration on the lid, but if you have oily hooded eyelids like
I do, it's not going to last or at least it doesn't last for me.
I was really disappointed with it.
Number six, the Becca Jaclyn Hill Collaboration Palette.
I don't know if you guys remember this eyeshadow palette, but the color payoff was terrible.
A lot of people claimed, "Oh, there was a bad batch."
I don't know.
I just know that the PR sample that I was sent had such terrible pigmentation.
I couldn't put together a good look with it.
It was awful.
The highlighter was great.
The blush powder was pretty good but the eyeshadow palette was a piece of crap.
Terrible product.
Number seven, Glossier lipsticks.
I love Glossier.
I love the brand.
They have a lot of great products.
Unfortunately for me, the Glossier lipsticks are a complete miss.
I thought that they'd be really cute just to give a little bit of color and a lot of
moisture.
Unfortunately, they dry my lips out like crazy.
I couldn't believe it because I feel like so many other products from Glossier are great
but lipsticks ... Total miss for me.
Number eight, Makeup Greek Sparklers.
Now this is a product that I'm torn on because I really, really liked the colors.
I like that they're eye-safe, but the packaging is terrible.
Completely terrible.
Every time you open up the jar, it's poof.
You get glitter everywhere.
I mean it gets everywhere.
It gets in your hair.
It gets in your bra.
You're just like, "Why?
Why is the packaging so bad?"
As much as I love the product itself, the packaging was terrible so it's on my list.
Number nine, Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette.
This was one of the most hyped palettes of the year.
I tried buying it through either ... I think I tried buying it originally through the Too
Faced website.
I was up until, I don't know, 6:00 or 7:00 a.m.
Right at the moment I went to bed, their website started working.
I had been trying for hours and hours and the website kept crashing so I was really
frustrated about that.
I finally was able to buy the palette through Ulta only through the mobile app on my phone.
Once I got the palette, I was so let down because the color payoff was terrible.
The purples in it, as you can probably guess because they're Too Faced purples, sucked
terribly.
I wasn't really that impressed with a lot of the other colors on the palette either.
I realized when I finally had it in my hands, not very many shades are actually peach.
I was completely disappointed with Sweet Peach.
In addition to the fact that it smelled terrible ... Another stinky item.
The fake peach smell was so cloying it made me sick.
Ugh.
I did not like it.
I was so disappointed with that palette, I put together my own DIY Makeup Geek Peach
Palette that I had actual peach shades that I liked much better.
Number 10.
I bet you won't be surprised by this.
Number 10 is the Too Faced Born This Way Concealers.
My big complaint about them is that I don't understand how Too Faced could release these
concealers when the lightest shade of the concealer is darker than the lightest shade
in their foundation range.
How the hell does that happen?
Where was QA for this?
There should have been somebody to catch that because it was completely just wrong.
The fact that their lightest foundation, Snow, is lighter than their lightest concealer,
which is Very Fair ... Very Fair is not very fair, by the way.
It's very pink.
I don't even understand.
It just was ridiculous.
I couldn't wear it.
You would think a company that came out with so many different foundations to try to fit
all different skintones would have remembered to at least have a concealer light enough
to go with their lightest foundation.
You don't put on darker concealer than your foundation.
That makes no sense.
Anyway, those are my top 10 worst products of 2016.
What products really sucked for you?

How to - Cowboy Steaks - Home Butchery - Duration: 11:17.Let's make some cowboy steaks what we
have here is a whole bone in ribeye and
kind of cryovack bag and it's USDA
choice and it's also Angus and what
we're going to do is we have a big camp
coming up and we need a bunch of steaks
so we're going to take this whole whole
rib eye and cut it into cowboy steaks
so we'll get this out of the bag and
onto the board
okay we've got the rib roast out of the
cryovack and we got it all dried off and
we're gonna use this Victorinox 6 inche
semi flex boning knife
I've been trying this out it's in a
couple of my other videos have been
starting to like it pretty good i'll put
a link to it in the description box so
you can find it on amazon it just it
doesn't show up on their easily a lot
more expensive ones do but this one
doesn't but i'll put a link in the Box
anyway I'll turn this over so you can get a
look at the other side and you can see
you know each one of the rib bones in
here and we're just gonna cut in between
those and divide them up we will probably end up
with a roast down on this end and these
will be stakes so we'll get right to it
ok we're going to just go right in
between each of these rib bones you
could see the ends of them right here
we're just going to let the ribs
determine the size of the steak and I
want to start up here at the top and
work my way towards the bottom part
because there's another bone up here
that we want to get around there's
another some sawed off ends up here
now let's move this over here for just a
second and we talked about this earlier
this is a choice
steak and you can see it's got pretty
good marbling in here now if you buy these
steaks just you know at the butcher shop
they're going to be somewhere around
twelve or thirteen dollars a pound when
they're already cut like this will go
through this whole thing get it ready
and it's it's really not hard butcher
job it's probably one of the easier ones
if you're going to leave the bone-in
let's get another one doing here what
I'm doing is I'm marking right between
these two bones you can't see it on the
camera but i can see the ends of them
right here so that's what i'm getting my
mark then I'm just trying to make you
know real nice long strokes through this
boning knife is not the ideal tool for
this but we're using it today just to
show you that you can do a lot of this
little knife
let's get on through these steaks
and that's got a lot of fat and I'm real
happy with it
ok what we did here is we just French
this bone and the piece that we took off
we're going to save that for some stew
meat it's perfectly fine and we did trim
this one a little bit now I'm going to
show you what to do with this first end
that you got that had it was sitting on
the board like this and we made the
first cut here and it's a little bit
thick for what we want and this in here
is the raw edge and we don't want that
on our stake for the for the grill so
we're gonna we're going to go to this
bone here and we're going to come off
this side of it the same distance that
we got over here and just straighten
this take up a little bit
I'm just going
get there
ok now we got that state trimmed up and
this you could just make its breakfast
take if you want her for most people
that's a regular steak but it's boneless
obviously or we may just cut this up and
put it into our stew meat which is one of
probably going to do so I will set this aside for
now and let's get to doing this
frenching now just as a rule of thumb i
just use two fingers with on it to go
down to the bone and we'll be trimming
some of this fat anyway but i'll show
you a couple things that will be kinder
to your knife here when you make this cut
you're going to be cutting down into
this bone and there's bone skin around
it and that bone is going to dull your
edge of your knife the most time you're
using your knife you're using this part
of it out here
so what we want to do is use this part
down here to do the cutting so we don't
ruin our blade so we're going to do this
two fingers more or less and i'm just
going to rock that thing around there so
i'm not using up my blade and come back
now I'm gonna get underneath that bone
skin right there and cut that I'm not
cutting up I'm not cutting the bone here
I'm just cut next to it
and the reason you don't need to do this
we're just doing it because it looks
cool on a grill
ok once you got this off you can trim
this up make stew meat out of it or grind
it and then when i see a lot of people
doing is they come in here and they
take your knife they scrape that off and
then it just kills the edge of your
knife what you can do is just take the
back your knife and drag a bone skin off
of there then come back
and trim off the very little bit just like that now
see how nice and clean that is now it doesn't
have to be that clean you can leave it
you know with some on there but it just
it just looks better and we got a little
bit too much fat right here so we're
going to selectively trim that we don't
want to trim all the fat off of this
steak you know that's a lot of flavor so
we took off some of that little piece
here we'll get rid of them don't want to start
a big fire on the grill and this fat cap
always like to trim just a little bit of
that off and there we got a cowboy steak
so i'm going to go through the rest of
them and then i'll bring you bring you
back to show you what the whole pile
looks like okay we got our rib roast
reassembled down here just to show you
what it looked like before we started
and we didn't trim in each one of these
in steaks to equalize them a little bit
and we got about a pound of trim here
from from what we trimmed off the ends
and what we frenched off the bone and we
got about a pound of fat all these
steaks ended up in just a little over
two inches or two inches and this is a
pretty easy butchering project for you
to start out with all you really need is
a knife and if you've got a good knife
doesn't have to be this one just a good
sharp knife matter of fact a big butcher
knife would actually probably make this
job a little easier
except doing this work down here this
work you need a boning knife so anyway that
pretty much wraps it up thanks for
watching and hope you give it a try
so we ended up netting about 20 pounds
of steaks
no that's wrong duh
this started out at 21 pounds so we got two pounds coming
out of it for the fat and the trim
I can't think today
Any way it is kind of hard to find because
because I am an idiot
