Irix 15mm f2 4 Lens Review (compared to Nikon 14-24 f/2.8) - Duration: 21:17.

Hi, I'm Erkan Ozgur Yilmaz,

Today, we'll review

the Irix 15mm f/2.4 super wide angle lens.

Irix is a new lens brand.

and they've introduced it as "Swiss Design made in Korea".

Currently, they are on the market with 15 mm f/2.4 and a 11 mm f/4 lenses.

As far as I know, the 11 mm lens is not shipping yet but 15 mm is.

Again, I'll review the lens in three sections.

Firstly, I'll talk about the ergonomics.

That is. the features that the lens is supplying for the user.

Secondly, I'll talk about the built quality

and finally I'll talk about the photographic quality.

Let's start with ergonomics.

I can say that this is the most beautiful lens design I've ever seen.

It has a lot of handy features for the photographer.

I'll talk about them one by one.

Let's start from top to bottom.

Interestingly, unlike the other super wide angle lenses,

the lens hood can be removed.

Normally, as you know, for lenses around

14, 15 or 16 mm the lens hood is fixed.

If you ask what is the use of it,

firstly, instead of the lens hood,

a big lens holder can be attached there.

secondly, it'll take less room in your bag,

the lens hood can be reversed,

so the lens has a smaller profile.

Now, I'll show another very interesting feature,

they've build a window on to the lens hood.

At first sight, you ask "what is the use of it?",

But it is cleverly designed,

You can attach filters on to the lens, I'll show it in a minute,

and if you attach a Circular Polarizer or a Variable ND filter

Through this window, you can rotate the filters.

It's thoughtfully designed, incredible.

Ergonomically, they've gone out of the classical lens design,

I'm seeing something like this for the first time.

I think it is cleverly designed.

Let's continue downwards.

The lens cap is not like a standard lens cap,

it is much thicker and it seems durable.

But, I found it to be hard to hold.

Because, they've chamfered the edge,

and when you try to hold it flies off away.

You have a hard time while squeezing it from sides.

Hopefully, they've created this inner indents,

which is much easier to hold from.

If we look at the front element of the lens,

again, as usual to this kind of lenses,

there is a bulbous front element.

For comparison,

let me put the 14-24 mm lens

right beside to it.

Look at the difference

between the sizes of the front elements.

Do you see it,

14 mm f/2.8, so it is 1 mm wider,

and f/2.8, so the aperture is a little bit smaller,

But there is a huge difference,

the front element of the 15 mm lens is tiny.

So what is the advantage?

Firstly, if something happens to this front element,

it will be much cheaper to replace.

Secondly, even it is a bulbous element,

you can put a filter on it.

The filter size is 95 mm.

It is a hard to find or probably expensive size.

Let's continue downwards,

They've printed the focal length on it

with big letters,

probably to make it easy to see it in dark.

Right below it, there is a very interesting ring.

By using this ring, you can lock the focus ring.

This is another well thought feature.

As you remember,

while shooting the stars,

I've taped down the focus ring of the 14-24 lens,

to prevent myself to move it accidentally,

you know after focusing it to the stars.

Now, this one has its own lock ring.

The focus ring will be locked as you rotate it.

Here, you can see a window with a little screw on it,

which has a "Focus Calibration" writing on it.

it controls where the focus ring is,

that is, lets say that you've focused to 1 meter by looking at the scale on the lens,

but you measured it and found that it is not 1 meter but 95 cm,

then you can use this to adjust the focus ring so it says 95 cm.

This is especially important if you shoot video,

because this means that you'll be using this focus scale more efficiently.

Generally, on regular lenses,

this scale is not very correct,

it says that it is focusing to 3 meters

while it is focusing to 2.8 meters for example.

In this lens you can adjust this.

Let's continue to the focus ring.

The focus ring rotates around 180 degrees.

To my taste, the focus ring is a little bit hard.

But it could be related to the fact that this is a new lens.

And it will ease with use.

The focus ring clicks on the infinity mark.

You can focus beyond the infinity,

but when it is on the infinity mark,

it stops and then continues,

you feel that it clicked.

This is an incredible feature to be used in dark.

Because, with 14-24, while shooting stars for example,

I have a very hard time to focus on the stars.

You shoot over and over again,

with little rotations to find the sharpest point.

All of the Irix lenses leaves the factory with the infinity focus being adjusted.

With this click, you can see where the infinity focus is, it is incredibly well thought.

Again on this focus ring, there are a couple of writings.

Firstly, of course you can see the current focus distance.

Secondly, you can see the hyperfocal focus distance,

according to the current aperture.

They've marked it for 8, 11 and 16 f-numbers.

Again, on the focus ring,

there is a mark for the Infrared infinity focus.

If you're going to use this lens in

infrared photography,

you can beautifully see where the infinity is.

For video, it has a wonderful focusing ring.

It is perfect for focusing in video.

Besides, it has hard stops, that is,

unlike the Nikon lenses it doesn't continue to rotate.

It means that it is a perfect feature for video.

Again, let's continue downwards.

They've created a threaded section

to create a nice grip

to help while mounting the lens.

To be honest, I had a little hard time while mounting the lens.

How could I have a hard time?

You'll have a little section to hold the lens from, okay,

you try to hold it from the focusing ring,

and the focusing ring rotates.

In fact, they've reserved this section here,

to hold the lens and mount it,

but it is a thin section,

they've threaded it to increase the grip,

but it was not enough for me.

And with a 45 angle chamfer we continue to the rear of the lens.

I forgot to mention something about the hood, let me continue with that.

The hood need to be used with care.

At start, if you carelessly put it on,

you may put it on the wrong angle, like this.

It is like wearing blinkers.

When you look at the viewfinder

you see that something is blocking the view on both sides.

Then you notice that you put the hood in the wrong angle.

You need to be careful while putting it on,

and match the lines on the hood

with the ones on the lens.

If you match them, there is no problem.

The second problem about the hood was

that I dropped it a couple of times

while the camera was hanging down on my side,

it hit to my hand or something else

and it loosened easily and fell down.

Other than those there was no problem with the hood.

Let's continue towards back again.

The rear cap, doesn't look like a standard Nikon cap.

They've done a different design there again.

They've created a cap that follows

this 45 degree chamfer on the edge.

It comes with an extra cap inside the box.

They've done a very nice gesture

and included a second cap.

If you loose this one,

there is another cap in the box.

Finally, let's look at the rear element of the lens.

Now, as you remember, the front filter thread size was 95 mm.

You may not able to fit all kinds of filters there.

They've created an inset on the rear of the lens

that you can insert gel filters.

You can cut gel filters to the size of this gap

and put them here.

The lens itself comes with a very nice hard case.

It is a case that you can carry the lens with in your bag.

and they've designed it beautifully so that

when you put the lens in to it,

in a certain angle,

they've designed it with the hood in mind,

it uses less space,

when you put it to the bag,

it is very comfortable to hold,

so you can pick it very easily.

Let me show one more thing.

The lens comes with a very nice metal box.

I think it is a very nice gesture again.

These electronic contacts are

also present in the Canon version,

and it allows the lens to communicate with the camera

and firstly, it allows the camera to store

the current aperture in the EXIF data.

secondly, it is possible to do focus confirmation on Canons.

Well, these are all I want to talk about the lens ergonomics.

As you see, the lens is full with nicely thought small details.

I liked it very much on that.

It seems to me that we'll continue to see these kind of ergonomic features from Irix lenses.

And they're on the market with just two lens now.

But I think, they'll continue with more tele lenses with 24, 35, 50, 85 and 135 mm options.

And they may create zoom lenses later on.

Now, let me say something very interesting about Irix.

It's been rumored that there is Samyang behind Irix.

Now, you know how much I like Samyang lenses,

because of their optical quality, build quality and relatively cheap prices.

In fact, their motto is, "Swiss design made in Korea".

They've even included that on the box.

Of course, it is not enough to explain that Samyang is behind it.

but, according to Photorumors.com

the Facebook page of Samyang Spain is closed

and when you enter the url it directs you to Irix Spain page.

So it means that,

Samyang is behind Irix,

Let's continue with build quality, in fact,

I've happened to explain it a little bit as I talk about the ergonomics.

The build quality is very very good.

When you compare it to the Nikon,

it is completely built from metal, a magnesium-aluminum alloy,

that is, it is on par with Zeiss.

Interestingly, the lens has two versions,

One is called "Firefly", and the second one,

that I'm currently holding is the "Blackstone" version.

The Firefly is made of plastic,

and the Blackstone version is made of a magnesium-aluminum alloy,

and it is weather sealed.

Thus, Blackstone is metallic,

and feels better in quality,

and it is more expansive.

The prices on their website are,

of course as a European company

they've wrote it down in Euros,

the price of the "Blackstone" version is 695 Euros,

and the price of the "Firefly",

which is the plastic version, is 475 Euros.

Both of the lenses are using the same optical formula.

So their optical performance are the same.

There are differences only in their material quality and the weather sealing.

Now, this one is the expansive one.

For a 700 Euro lens,

when you think that the Nikon is around 1600 USD,

it has a very high quality compared to Nikon.

Let's come to the vital point: "The Photographic Quality".

Okay, it is nice,

the build quality is very nice

and they've thought little details ergonomically,

but if it is taking bad photos, it has no value.

Good news!

It takes nice photos, of course,

but it has some handicaps.

That is, I can not say that it fully beats the 14-24.

Firstly,

Vignette

At f/2.4 the vignette is like crazy.

What could be the advantage of having a f/2.4 lens?

You can use it in taking nightscape photos, right,

you'll be able to take 1/3 stop shorter exposures.

But, there is no practical benefits of taking photos at f/2.4.

Because, there is so much vignette,

and to clear it out you need to expose it longer,

or digitally you need to correct the vignette,

and that means that you'll introduce noise again.

so there is no meaning.

So having this lens to be a f/2.4 lens has practically no use for me.

And even, with the Nikon at f/2.8

and set to the same shutter speed

takes lighter photos.

This vignette problem,

continues to be present at f/5.6,

and clears out at around f/8.

Of course, stopping it down from 2.4 to 2.8

and then to 4, the vignette clears out greatly,

but by looking at each photo you see that

at f/5.6 and f/8 the vignette is still clearing out.

Let's talk about the flare or ghosting performance.

It doesn't have any advantage

over 14-24 on flare or ghosting,

they both equally flare.

One of the most renowned feature of wide angles lenses recently

is the stars that you get

when you stop the aperture down

and point it either to sun or to a bright light source.

It is been said how big the stars are in good quality lenses.

It is called "Sun Stars".

"Sun Stars" on both lenses resembles each other greatly.

You can get beautiful stars when you stop it down to f/16 or f/22.

One of good sides of this lens is that it is not "focus breathing",

compared to Nikon 14-24,

Irix nearly doesn't have any "focus breathing".

But the vital feature is that

it nearly doesn't have any distortion,

very close to zero,

it's been well corrected.

It beats Nikon 14-24 very badly.

Again, on chromatic aberration,

it has a very big advantage over Nikon 14-24.

It definitely doesn't have any chromatic aberration,

it is very successful.

Both the distortion and chromatic aberration

is very very good compared to Nikon 14-24.

Let's come to the most vital point:

"Sharpness".

Is this lens sharp?

I can not answer that question easily.

If we investigate the sharpness performance

in two sections like the center and the extremes,

that is the center and the edges of the photo.

At the center, compared to Nikon the Irix is much softer.

Okay?

It continues like that at f/2.4, f/2.8 and f/4.

At f/5.6, both lenses shows same sharpness levels,

that is, Irix catches up with Nikon.

and at f/11 Irix becomes sharper at the center.

But we already start to see the effect of "Diffraction".

at f/16 both start to get soft.

Even though this softness, at f/16 Irix looks sharper.

At f/22, it is much softer, but compared to Nikon, Irix looks a little bit sharper.

If we come to the edges, there is another story.

Irix at f/2.4, and Nikon at f/2.8,

because Irix doesn't have chromatic aberration,

it has a sharper look.

At f/2.8, when compared to Nikon,

Irix is sharper at the edges.

This continues to be like that at f/4 and f/5.6,

that is, Irix have a sharper look

at the edges, compared to Nikon.

At f/8, something interesting happens

and Nikon catches up with Irix.

That is, even though it has chromatic aberration,

and this kills the feeling of sharpness,

it nearly has a sharper look.

But at f/11 Irix takes the lead again.

And then at f/16,

with the effect of "Diffraction"

both lenses gets softer.

But the performance of Irix is better.

And at f/22, Irix has a better look at the edges.

If we summarize it,

at the widest apertures, Nikon is better at the center,

and when you close the aperture down,

Irix started to have a better look.

and because it doesn't have chromatic aberration,

it is already has a big advantage over Nikon.

By the way, I'm testing both lenses at 15 mm.

So, when you stop it down to f/5.6 or so, Irix starts to compete with Nikon.

Now, this is a 695 Euro lens,

and it has a 475 Euro brother which has the same optical formula,

And this 475 Euro lens, beats the Nikon 14-24,

like the Samyang lenses beating the other expansive lenses,

But you need to stop it down to around f/4 or f/5.6.

to have a better look on all over the photo.

Basically that's all I want to talk about the lens.

Ahh yes, okay, let me talk about what happens to this resolution thing in real life.

That is, while I was shooting out in the street,

because you zoom in and check the resolution at the center,

and because the 14-24 is better at center,

the Irix lens left a soft taste in my mouth.

That is, in terms of sharpness, it left a taste like it is less sharper.

When you look at the MTF charts of both of the lenses,

there is a difference between their behaviors.

Their behaviors on the "sagittal" and "meridional" axis are quite the reverse.

I hope, I'll do an MTF video, in the near future, and explain what those are.

But if I summarize it, this lens shows its sharpness

with the lines coming from the center to the edges,

But the 14-24 show its sharpness on concentric circles.

That is, their sharpness axis are perpendicular to each other.

"Meridionals" on Irix, and "Sagittals" on Nikon are much sharper.

After giving this information for nerds, let me do the closing speech.

I haven't talked about the "Coma Performance" or the "Bokeh Quality" of the lens.

Let's start with "Bokeh Quality".

It is a little bit weird to talk about the bokeh quality of a 15 mm lens.

Because, you have no business with bokeh,

because it is a wide angle lens,

everything generally is in focus,

unless you're at minimum focus.

But, if you focus it very close,

as you see in the sample photos,

it has a smooth bokeh.

Other than that, if we skip to the "Coma Performance".

As you know, "Coma" defines the optical issue

where point light sources transformed in to cat eyes.

"Coma" is especially an issue if you're shooting stars.

And this is a wide angle lens,

which you can use for start or nightscape photos.

It's coma performance is nearly identical to 14-24.

And, 14-24 is one of the good lenses in terms of coma performance.

So the Irix is also good in terms of "coma performance".

Well, today, we've reviewed the Irix 15 f/2.4 lens

which has been recently started to ship.

It's a very interesting and a beautiful lens.

Ergonomically, it is the most feature rich lens that I've ever seen,

they've put a lot of features inside that helps the photographer.

I absolutely recommend this lens, especially if you have a budget problem.

MQ-3737 toy piano - Duration: 1:21.

So I bought a toy piano off ebay for an electronics project...

Uh oh, tiny keys. This may be a problem, but, meh.

That's the model - MQ-3737.

Let's try it out. Power on!

Ugh.

Yup. It's MONOPHONIC. At this day and age.

There's three (3) "instruments".

and two (2) volume levels.

Oh well. Let's look inside.

The visible chip is OpAmp. The "magic" happens under a blob where the ribbons go.

Like and subs.. who am I kidding?

For David Bowie - Duration: 0:04.

When I found out who you are, It is all too late for recognition, I cried an ocean of tears, for the friendship I had just lost, the way you walk in such a rush. With a turbine on your head. Oh the days of cowboys and indybums as children will play. A rift in the band for a longing of freedom and prosperity. A great loss trying to get back to kindness and the gentle ways eight or more blood vessels behind your glass eye. I Love you for the honour of cruel to be kind. Cruel to be kind was such an unfair mockery of my life and yours by our old folk. Oh how I have destroyed all that you lived for. I am not perfect either tainted by the wisdom.

Of course Indah Pagi on the Saxophone for Hank Williams from George Strait.

tainted by the wisdom of an emotional darkness. Darkness that blanketed the world that day! Those who betrayed me ruined your world. Thank you for the tasty pizza.

COMPLETELY STRANDED - Duration: 7:33.

Pretty stuck right there

I just got a radio call and one of my

friends is stuck in the mud

so we're going to go pull him out of the mud

so if this your first time watching

an Axe Family video we live out on a

ranch and we're quite a ways from town

we drive two hours to where we get our

groceries and my wife goes about once a

month to get groceries so that gives you

an idea how far out we are and there's

one thing that's really important for us

to have out here and that's radios. We

don't have cell service out here so you

can't just call someone on a cell phone if

you get stuck somewhere and so we have

radios and some

repeaters that are on some of the high

peaks and then another thing that's good

to have are friends have four-wheel

drive. so you can't really call a tow

truck when you get stuck and you've got

to be able to call your friend on the

radio to come get you

so that's what I'm doing right now

There's a swan that's kind of cool! sounds like

they were helping extract an elk

this morning and they just got into some

deep mud but we'll see here in a sec

how bad it is

there's a bunch of geese flying over

right now there's a bunch more geese

down there if you're watching this video

and you yourself have been stuck in the

mud or you have gone to help pull

somebody else out of the mud leave a

comment down below

tell me a little bit about your story of

what happened

Curtis have a copy Curtis go ahead Cody go

ahead come through the gate off the road

kind of like the road that you were on before

about last time. the same

road

okay copy that

on my way. we haven't had rain

in the last couple days but we did have

some rain this week. in this area up here

gets really muddy anytime we get any

precipitation

that gate was open i'm assuming they're

up this way

yeah go ahead i went past that that

stretch gate and then I took a left

through another gate and now i'm going

up a steep grade right now

you're making your way

i'll keep an eye out for you

I've been up in this area I haven't been

in this exact spot the ranch is about a

hundred thousand acres and so it's a

pretty big place but I've been to a lot

of different places but not this spot in

particular it's pretty cool

I'm here right now. which way do i go?

jump in the trucks behind us there's a

road. there's another road

on the other side of that fence on the

other side of this Ridge

stop right there

like a glove

that's how you do it right there you help friends out

of mud

sounds like we're gonna go get an elk

now that's what that's what they were

trying to do was extracting out then

they got stuck so while I'm up here might

as well go check out the dead elk and show

you guys

and that was pretty fun thanks for

watching you guys give us a thumbs up if

you like the video and subscribe to our

channel Axe family and hats off to you

guys

nice looking Elk you got there. Thank you for watching!

Bike Lanes and Property Values | Why You Should Purchase Real Estate Near Bike Lanes - Duration: 3:35.

How's it going everyone?

Matt Leighton and welcome back to another video.

In this video, we're talking about bike lanes.

And more specifically why you should buy real estate near bike lanes.

I'm in Arlington, Virginia just cruising around town.

Those that know me know that I like walking and biking everywhere.

I'm not against driving, I just try to do it as little as possible.

And this won't be a video on us versus them or why you should get a bike and use the bike

lanes.

The point of this video is to open your eyes up to a neighborhood amenity that you may

have overlooked in the past.

Because when people are looking for a great location.

They want walkability.

And my whole thing is why?

Ask why 3 three times.

Why do they want walkability?

So they can walk to the work or walk to Metro or walk to the bus stop.

But what are we forgetting?

We're forgetting the bike commuters that are starting to make up a larger portion of

commuters every year.

Just like walkability to neighborhood amenities is valued, so

is bike-ability for those purchasers who travel by bike.

Properties next to bike lanes are becoming more valuable.

And I don't really have any scientific research to back that up.

All the studies I read on this topic didn't necessarily have an isolated study.

There were lots of factors going on.

But when a bike lane is added, what is happening?

The city is adding infrastructure to improve transportation.

And when transportation is improved in a certain area, I think the surrounding area is improved

as well.

So I want to leave you with one final question.

Do you think a neighborhood is more desirable with bike lanes or without bike lanes?

And you might say well I don't bike and I don't like bikers, so what's it to me.

And that's fine.

You don't have to like other people.

But keep in mind.

Without bike lanes, your car is sharing the road with bikes.

With bike lanes, bikes have their own dedicated, sometimes protected lane that cars are not

traveling in.

I think this is a pretty obvious, but sometimes overlooked neighborhood amenity.

Whether you're Lance Armstrong or you despise bikers…it doesn't matter.

We all want to buy in a neighborhood that appreciates in value.

And when you buy in a neighborhood that has bike lanes or is working to get bike lanes,

I think you're on the right track.

Okay I got a hill coming up so I gotta go.

Thanks for watching.

Until next time, create a productive day.

Take care.

Top 10 Toy Story Facts! - Duration: 2:15.

Hello how are you guys doing today my name is black tarzan and today we are going to

be going over the top 10 facts about toy story!

Coming up!

In their most productive week during production, Pixar completed 3.5 minutes of animation.

Tim Allen and Pixar originally wanted Jim Carrey to voice Buzz Lightyear, but they couldn't

due to the low budget they were given for the film.

The movie was originally supposed to be called "You Are A Toy."

Buzz Lightyear's original name was Lunar Larry.

Hasbro denied Pixar the use of the name GI Joe when it was informed that a GI Joe doll

was going to be blown up by Sid.

Pixar used army men instead.

The number "95" appears frequently throughout all 3 films.

This is in reference to the year the original Toy Story was released, 1995.

Toy Story 2 was initially planned as an hour long sequel that would have premiered on home

video.

Toy Story 3 is the first sequel to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar without any of

its predecessors being nominated.

Toy Story 3 is also the first animated movie to make over $1 billion at the box office

worldwide.

It's the #5 highest grossing movie of all-time.

Toy Story was completed on a $30 million budget using a staff of 110.

In comparison, The Lion King, released in 1994, required a budget of $45 million and

a staff of 800.
