Whats up Star Wars Fans? My name is Prince, and I am an Urban Acolyte.
Force Friday is right around the corner, and one of the things Im most looking forward
to is the release of Delilah Dawsons Phasma novel where we are going to learn all about
the background of Captain Phasma.
Now Ive posted at least two videos within the last 4 months with my thoughts on Phasma.
I thought she might be one of the children recruited by Brendol Hux during the Aftermath
series who was on the ship with Rae Sloane, Brendol Hux, and his son, Armitage, who will
grow up to become General Hux of the First Order.
Ive also been saying that I think Phasma might be someone else when shes not in
her armormainly a First Order officer weve seen a lot in the Poe Dameron comic book named
Commander Malarus.
Well, Im pretty up front with you guys when I say that these are just my opinions,
and not the Bible truth, because I have a feeling that my two guesses are both going
to turn out to be wrong come Friday of course some Walmart stores around the country
have already released the Phasma novel, so if youve already started reading, please
be niceno spoilers in the comments until the rest of us have had a chance to read the
book this weekend.
Anyway, last week an excerpt from the Phasma novel went up on starwars.com, and I am looking
forward to this novel even more than I was back when I first heard it was announced.
Honestly, after I read Empires End back in February, in like2 daysthis is the
first Star Wars novel that Ive been looking forward to reading. I mean, I still havent
completed Thrawn or Rebel Rising, and the only reason I finished Inferno Squad was because
I listened to it on Audible on the way to that YouTube Creator training two weeks ago.
This Phasma book? Yes, I want to know more about Captain Phasma. See, if wed let those
geniuses over on your favorite Star Wars talk show tell it Captain Phasma would have
been the one who confronted Finn on Takodana. She would have been the one to beat him in
that duel, and she wouldve been the one to bite it with a bowcaster bolt to the chest
instead of FN-2199.
Since it wasnt Phasmawell get to see Phasma lead an elite group of Stormtroopers
in Episode 8. Well get to see her finally confront Finn, and we also get this book,
and a comic book, which might actually tell us how the First Order began and possibly
more information about Snoke, the Knights of Ren, and how Ben Solo came to join that
organization.
So this Phasma book is a very good thing.
So if I havent sold some of you on why you WANT to be reading the Phasma novel, let
me tell you what was in the excerpt posted last week.
We learn that Phasma resides on some remote planet called Parnassos. Now the name of this
planet shares its name with Mount Parnassus which has some significance in Greek mythology.
It basically means mountain temple of the gods, so Im curious about the culture
of the people on Parnassos. Like what kind of religion is practiced there? Do they have
some kind of religion connected to studying the Force? Also, why are they so cut off from
the rest of the galaxy?
What we learn is there is some kind of automated planetary defense system that shoots at ships
once they enter the upper atmosphere. Could this have been something built during the
Clone Wars to prevent the war from spreading to Parnassos, or does it date even further
back?
Little details like that are important. Think about itwhy would someone build this? What
were they intending to protect by keeping the people on Parnassos apart from outsidersand
consider that anyone who survived being shot down was basically left stranded on the planet.
But anyway what happens is that a ship does enter Parnassos. The planetary defense
system shoots the ship down, but some of the ships crew managed to get into an escape
pod, and survive. They were found by the Claw people, a tribe that appears to be a rival
to the Scyre people who appear to be led by Phasma.
So we dont know the time this event occurs or the ages of any of the people involved.
Phasma could be an adult, a teenager, or even younger.
What we do know is that Brendol Hux emerges from the escape pod with several stormtroopers
and a droid. He announces that he is with the First Order and that he is searching the
galaxy for the best warriors to help fulfill their mission to bring peace to the galaxy.
He says that anyone on Parnassos who can provide assistance in helping him return to the First
Order will be allowed to join them in fulfilling their mission.
Phasma immediately steps up and says that she will help him find his ship.
Now the first thoughts I had after reading the excerpt was how these characters we consider
to be villains are starting to become multi-dimensional. What I mean is that there is this similar
narrative with Rae Sloane, Sergeant Kreel, and now Captain Phasma. In all three of their
origin stories, they were in a bad situation, but the Empire or the First Order interceded.
It follows this formulaI was born a loser. Either my planet was a loser, my home was
a loser, or I was just born into a losing situation. The Empire came and freed me from
being a loser. I joined the Empire, or the First Order, and now Im a winner.
So when we ask the question about how these people join something like the Empire, or
the First Order, we have to think about their intentions. Why join? Why continue to be part
of this? Are they brainwashed?
I mean Rae Sloane was the Grand Admiral of the Imperial Fleet. I would not be at all
surprised if Rae Sloane actually created the First Order. She said she wanted to create
a better Empire, and her wishes line up with the wishes of the Senators in Bloodline in
favor of building a stronger Republic that is more like the Empire.
So Phasmaher planet sounds like a pretty hostile place to live. Keep in mind her thoughts
when Hux emerged. The text read that he looked older than any person theyd ever seen before
they were living under some pretty harsh conditions. I dont think people lived long enough to
even see their children become adults.
So for Phasma? Shed probably seen a lot. Im sure battle and death didnt really
bother her, but even if she is this super awesome warrior on her planet, theres not
much fun in being a warrior if you dont get to live long enough to hear people singing
your praises.
So I think Phasma wanted to leave. I think she maybe even wanted to take her followers
with her so that they could fight in something they might actually have a shot at winning.
So yeahI think this is how and why Captain Phasma joined the First Order.
As for her being Malarus Ill have to wait on that one. Ill say this much, if
she isnt Malarus, I think Malarus might be one of these Scyre people, like Phasma.
Well just have to wait and see what happens when the book drops on Friday.
But Ive said all I can think of on Phasma, so Id like to hear from all of you. Are
you interested in learning more details about Captain Phasma, and do you think well learn
more about the First Order and possibly Snoke?
Also tell me something else you hope we learn in the Phasma novel so let me know your
thoughts below in the comments, and Ill be checking back to see what you have to say.
