Here are times when animals completely turned on their trainers!
10 - Rocky the Bear Rocky the bear is a bear that actually has
ties in Hollywood.
This bear in question was in the sports-comedy film Semi-Pro, which starred Will Ferrell,
Andy Richter, and Will Arnett.
Rocky, who was named Dewey in the movie, was featured in a scene where he and Will Ferrell,
or more specifically, Will Ferrell's stunt double and Rocky's trainer Randy Miller,
wrestled in front of an audience.
In real life, Rocky's trainer owned an animal training facility called Predators in Action.
On April 22, 2008, Randy Miller decided to allow his cousin Stephan Miller to perform
a wrestling stunt for what was intended to be a promotional video for the facility.
Although his cousin was an animal trainer and stunt double himself, he was never actually
any part of Rocky's training.
I mean, don't animals still need to build relationships as well?!
During one of the initial shots of the video, Rocky stood up in his wrestling posture too
early, catching Stephan off-guard.
Randy tried to stop this by hitting Rocky with a cane but that only escalated the situation.
The 700 pound bear bit Stephan on the neck and pierced both his jugular vein and carotid
artery.
Tragically, Stephan wasn't able to recover and passed within minutes of the attack.
9 - The wolfpack Kolmarden Wildlife Park in southwest Stockholm
is considered to be one of Sweden's most popular tourist attractions and is also Scandinavia's
largest wildlife park.
Visitors are able to have "wild encounters" with its animals, which includes petting wolves.
Back around June of 2012, a 30 year old female member of the wolf training team for the park
went into the wolves' den.
This is of course common practice in the park as the team needed to maintain contact with
the wolves.
However, this time, the trainer in question didn't return from her routine check up
of the den.
Her colleagues decided to search for her and were shocked to find her red from what seemed
to be a team effort by 8 wolves.
Although none of the wolves were put down, the zoo amended its employee safety procedures.
I meaan, I understand these wolves are still wolves at the end of the day, buuuut yeahhhhh….
The saddest and maybe most crazy part about this incident is that she had raised the wolves
from birth.
Even though wild animals are unpredictable, no one knows what exactly caused the wolves
to turn on their trainer.
8 - Trouble in Mexico This next little incident occurred across
the border in our neighbor to the south, Mexico.
Though not as popular today, circuses have been part of the entertainment world for centuries
and have therefore brought laughs and thrills to countless people around the world.
But one terrifying circus performance brought thrills but definitely not laughs.
During a late night circus performance for Hermanos Suarez Circus in Northern Mexico,
35-year old American trainer Alexander Crispin was grilled by a tiger.
Video footage of the attack shows Crispin circling two tigers during his act before
one of them lunges at him, pulling him to the ground and mauling him.
Crispin's co-workers immediately rush to help in an attempt to free Crispin.
However, the damage was already done for Crispin, who was later rushed to the hospital.
Unfortunately, Crispin ride of severe fluid and bl00d loss.
7 - Seaworld at Loro Parque Loro Parque, a zoological park in the Canary
Islands, is no stranger to exotic animals.
It houses and showcases everything from exotic birds to sea lions and attracts thousands
of visitors from the islands and from abroad.
In an attempt to create a special show for a holiday season, Loro Parque borrowed four
young griller whales from SeaWorld.
Loro Parque trainer Alexis Martinez was working tirelessly to train the killer whales in order
to prep them for the show.
On the morning of Christmas eve back in 2009, Alexis was practicing one of the usual acts
for the show when Keto the griller whale lunged at him and forcefully dragged Martinez to
the bottom of the pool.
Thoush fellow trainers tried to stop the attack, Keto kept Martinez underwater for three minutes
before resurfacing with his limp body.
Emergency CPR was done and paramedics were called but it was too late for Martinez.
Some critics say that this particular incident could have been avoided if Seaworld has considered
the fact that the young orcas needed an older dominant orca to keep them from being rowdy
and allow them to develop social skills.
Others say that they should never have been in captivity in the first place.
6 - Charming the Snake In the world of shocking and record breaking
performances, Ali Khan Samsudin had made a name for himself as the "snake king.
This Malaysian snake charmer had set numerous world record for his performances which often
involved very dangerous, venomous, carnivorous reptiles.
In the 90s he became popular after performing a stunt where he locked himself in a room
with 400 cobras for 12 hours a day…...for 40 days.
To add to his titles, he was also known as the "scorpion king" because he once locked
himself in a box with over FIVE THOUSAND scorpions for three weeks!!!
During this particular stunt, he was bitten almost a hundred times.
Buuuuuuut things still worked out for him.
His demise instead came when he was bitten by just ONE cobra while simply entertaining
some fans.
Though he was taken to the hospital immediately, he flied three days later at the age of 48.
His legacy lives on with his prodigy, AKA "The Scorpion Queen".
5 - Ireme Shrine Circus Ireme Shrine Circus is a small-town circus
in northeastern Pennsylvania that's currently in its 68th year.
This particular circus is known for letting its guests ride the animals.
According to their website, it costs only $10 to ride an elephant.
With this in mind, it's no wonder one of the animals turned on their trainer.
In 2010, an elephant turned on its trainer by kicking him and catapulting him more than
20 feet into the air.
The trainer landed on concrete which caused severe damage to his body.
He was rushed to a hospital but ultimately flied due to his injuries.
Police reports state that the elephant was was frightened because he had come into contact
with a nearby electrical wire, and because of that it made him panic and kick his trainer.
The trainer was the only victim and his colleagues reacted quickly in order to calm the elephant.
All of this happened while the circus was closed so no one from the public witnessed
this horrific incident but it's safe to say that this event left a sad mark on the small-town
circus.
4 - Nyanga the South African Lioness Joe Ramonetha was a 63-year old South African
zookeeper living in Free State, a city close to Johannesburg.
He was asked by the rural farm who bred animals for the city zoo to come out of retirement.
This was because of staff shortages within the city zoo system.
His return was sadly short-lived.
A 10 year old lioness named Nyanga jumped on Ramonetha after the gate was left open
by accident while he was getting the animals' food.
Strangely, Nyanga's name means "with doctor" which might have been a sign that the zookeepers
knew she was a difficult lioness.
Ramonetha's rushed to the scene and saw that he had been bitten twice on the neck,
which was the reason for the end of Ramonetha.
Many of the zoo workers were wondering why the gate was left open, as the staff are trained
to close all gates to keep the lion in their cages.
Ramonetha likely forgot this procedure and it cost him his life.
Nyanga the lioness wasn't put down even though this incident was the first fatal animal
attack in 50 years of the zoo's history.
3 - London Zoo Comes Down Regent park is one of London's most famous
open spaces.
It's home to the London Zoo and used to be the hunting grounds of King Henry the eighth
before being turned into a public attraction and zoo in 1845.
In 2001, after 170 years of presence at the Regent Park in London, three Burmese elephants
were transferred to another park after attacking and stomping on their handler, Jim Robson.
The unfortunate event happened as visitors watched what was a very routine show conducted
by Robson.
Witnesses say that one of the elephants initiated the very unfortunate incident by tossing Robson
to the side before trampling him while the other two elephants seemed to join in.
Witnesses also say that Robson had three elephant footprints on him after the incident: one
on his chest, one on his stomach and one on his back.
Ayeeeeeeeee…….
2 - The Tiger Whisperer Palm Beach Zoo was the work home of Stacy
Konwiser for three years before she met her demise by a tiger in 2016.
Konwiser was considered to be a "tiger whisperer" because she seemed to have a special bond
and special way of communicating with the tigers that she handles.
According to her co-workers, she was also very dedicated to protecting tigers because
they are an endangered species.
But in April 2016, while she was cleaning the lair where the tigers were housed and
fed, a 13 year old Malaysian tiger names Hati jumped on her.
Weirdly enough, the reaction to her death was a bit mixed.
On the day of the attack, the PR office for the zoo said she did nothing wrong and followed
zoo procedures when she entered the liar but the zoo president and CEO later said that
her action violated policy and she put herself in danger by entering a portion of the tiger
enclosure.
1 - Two Grizzlies In 2008, a young man by the name of Benjamin
Cloutier, moved to Montana.
He became a trainer at a Montana wildlife casting agency and trained animals for photo
shoots.
Sadly, on November 4th 2012, he was tragically grilled.
Authorities say that while Cloutier was cleaning their cage, two 500 pound grizzly bears pounced
on him.
Because cleaning the bear's cage was standard procedure, there's some speculation about
whether or not he had fallen down and lost consciousness before the bears jumping on
him, because there didn't seem to be a visible attempt to fight off the bears.
The bears seemingly just took advantage of the situation and only went after him because
he was unconscious.
However, not everyone believes in this theory because the county sheriff believes that there's
no way to be certain that Cloutier was unconscious when the bears attacked.
All in all, this was a tragic incident that brought on legal action against
the facility.
Here's what's next!
