Vampires: The Science Behind the Myth - Duration: 4:13.

Vampire stories have been popping up for centuries, and some of them are a lot scarier -- and

less sparkly -- than others.

The most common stories involve dead people walking the Earth with pale skin, a fear of

sunlight, and a thirst for blood … but that myth might actually have some basis in scientific

fact.

Really.

Most cultures have some sort of vampire-like story.

In Chinese folklore, for example, there are evil spirits that drain your life away, and

in India, there are legends about demons who used to be people, but weren't cremated

properly.

Mainly, these myths probably came from a deep misunderstanding of how diseases spread.

During epidemics like the plague, people were understandably terrified and needed an explanation

for the apparent randomness of illness.

But the vampire myth that's caught on in pop culture has very specific symptoms, and

scientists believe they might be traced back to actual medical conditions.

The first possible connection is a group of disorders called porphyria, which are caused

by too much of a molecule in your blood called porphyrin.

Your red blood cells mostly contain a massive protein called hemoglobin, which moves oxygen

and carbon dioxide around your body.

And in the middle of hemoglobin is a ring of carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen called a

porphyrin ring.

Normally, enzymes convert porphyrin into another molecule called a heme group.

But for someone who suffers from porphyria, their body doesn't have enough of one of

those enzymes, so the porphyrin builds up and causes problems.

For one, it makes their skin really sensitive to sunlight, and they get painful rashes and

blisters… but only when they go outside.

The excess porphyrin also builds up in their teeth and mouth, causing red or brown discoloration.

It can even look a bit like they've been drinking… well, blood.

Today, porphyria is treatable, but back in the middle ages, it wasn't very well understood,

so people could have made up all kinds of stories about it.

Most kinds of porphyria are also hereditary conditions, so stories could have easily spread

about a group of vampires, or one vampire who infected their family.

Another likely origin for the myth is a condition called pellagra.

Pellagra is caused by a dietary deficiency of two things -- niacin, also called vitamin

B3, and an amino acid called tryptophan.

Normally, your body uses niacin to turn food into energy.

And even if you aren't getting enough of it in your diet, your body will also create

niacin from tryptophan, so everything should still run smoothly.

But when you aren't getting enough of either, things go wrong.

Around 300 years ago, corn started to replace wheat as the food staple for a lot of Europeans.

This was great because it grew really well and was cheap, but it also wasn't very nutritious.

See, even though corn contains niacin, it's not in a form that our bodies can digest.

In Mexico, where corn had been farmed for centuries before it came to Europe, the kernels

were treated with a mixture of water and the mineral lime before use.

That caused a reaction that released all those healthy vitamins, but it wasn't a practice

Europeans brought home with them.

To make things worse, corn also doesn't contain much tryptophan, so there was nothing

for their bodies to convert into niacin.

No matter how much corn people ate, they couldn't get the vitamins they needed, so pellagra

started popping up all over the place.

The symptoms of pellagra actually look pretty similar to porphyria.

Patients are sensitive to sunlight and get terrible rashes if they go outside.

Sometimes, the rash gets so bad that the skin starts to degrade over time, looking pale

and papery.

Their mouths also turn red, and their tongues start to swell.

People are often left with imprints of their teeth in on their tongues, which could have

started the idea that vampires have large canine teeth.

Pellagra can also cause neurons to degenerate in the brain, which can lead to severe mental

illness and insomnia.

Add in a sunlight allergy, and that might explain why the vampires in stories don't

sleep at night.

Now, pellagra and porphyria might explain some symptoms, but the whole "walking dead"

thing might have come from something totally different.

Some think it comes from a neurological condition called catalepsy.

Like epilepsy, it affects signaling in the central nervous system, .

They can't move at all, and their heart and respiration rates slow down until it looks

like they're actually dead.

And since doctors back in the day didn't have access to sensitive machines to measure

whether someone was alive, they often thought someone experiencing a cataleptic seizure

had died.

iAnd what did they do with dead people?

They buried them.

Like you can imagine, if you saw some guy climb out of his coffin, it'd be super hard

for him to convince you he was actually alive and not a blood-sucking vampire.

Ugh.

That's going to give me nightmares.

All three of these conditions still exist, but thankfully, they're much more treatable

or avoidable now.

And at the end of the day, we know they're definitely not anything to be afraid of.

- I absolutely loved my time at Randolph-Macon.

The relationships that I made here

are completely one of a kind and I still

do live in Richmond so I am somewhat involved

but I just miss the community feel

so I was so excited to be able to be back here on campus

and see everyone and--

- For me it's really about trying to give back

to the place that really got me started

and started me on the right path to the point

that even my daughter's 13 and we keep involved

with Randolph Macon stuff too.

For me, it's about continuing that kind of experience

and specifically really sort of supporting

the liberal arts values that they've got

that still continue even after you graduated.

- I come back to Homecoming for the friendships.

I graduated in 2012, every year me and my friends

would come back here, meet up just to catch up.

Throughout the years we've moved to D.C., Charlotte,

Richmond, Short Pump so this is the one time

of the year where we can kind of come back, congregate

and catch up and relive the old times.

- Even as a alum, I'm involved in Cultivating

and Stewardship, trying to raise money and donations.

And, I'm just a firm believer that, you know,

college is such a short period of time and you

really have to savor those moments while you have them

and it's our responsibility as alumni

to raise awareness so that others can

also enjoy those same experiences

and have those same moments.

- I'll tell you Randolph Macon College has a special charm

that's probably unique around the entire country.

We have great academics, fantastic athletic program,

and the people are like family.

You wanna come back everyday of your life,

not just Homecoming.

- It was probably four of the best years of my life.

I made some friends that I'll just be friends

with forever, it's just a great place.

Like he said, it's just a family.

- I stay connected because I was really involved

with Melanie Gubbels, one of the biology professors here

at Macon, and her and I build quite the bond

and we stay in touch, and so I donate to the biology

department every year.

And I really--

this community built a lot and formed me

to be the person that I am today and so I owe

a lot to Randolph Macon.

- I love to come back and I love to be here

'cause you can actually help the next generation

of Yellow Jackets.

So you can meet them, understand what they're doing,

help them with some mentoring,

help them find job opportunities.

So I love to come back, meet with my old friends

and see how they're doing and network with the new students.

- It was just the general feeling of, you know,

everyone loves you here and we work together

and we're all friends.

It's why I moved back to Ashland.

It is the center of the universe and the center of my life.

🎃WHO ARE THE SHADOW ANIMATRONICS??? | REVEALED | FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S 🎃 - Duration: 5:28.

What are the Shadows?

What is their origin?

But before beggining, two things

First, i remid you this is a special horror week of FNaF because it's Halloween and The Day of The Dead

I am making theories, on November 2 i'll upload "The Theory" of all the story of FNaF

And the second thing is

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL OF YOU!!

Although in your country the Halloween is not celebrated

For example: in my case, my beautiful Mexico

even so many people here celebrate it

It's so cool, a reunion with your family, with your friends, do parties and get out to ask for candy

It's so very cool this celebration

And well, this theory isn't complete because i'll complete it in "The Theory"

But today we gonna resolve one of the mysteries... THE SHADOWS

Let's begin

In the FNaF 3 Night 2 call (before the tapes) the guy told us the tapes are from a long time ago

Well, here the guy exceeded

Because in the prehistoric the tapes didn't exist

So, i think this man have to finish the elementary school

leaving aside the lack of education of this man

I was saying the tapes are from many years ago

A year when Freddy Fazbear's Pizza still using Springlocks suits

SpringBonnie and Fredbear

And this tapes look like were for a person who start to work here, and he had to put the animatronics half-robot half-costume

On the night 4 of this tapes

The man told us an unfortunate incident ocurred at the sister location

"Sister Location". A lot of people think the guy say "Sister Location" because these events happened at the game we know as "Sister Location"

But, in my opinion, I doubt this is correct

I think he refers a sister restaurant of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, because there's no only one

...An incident with Springlocks

This incident was the death of 2 workers at the time of wearing these dangerous costumes

They made a bad move or someone modified these costumes that made the suit become a robot

pieces of metal, cables, beams, all while the workers were still inside

So the man told us the classic costumes (Fredbear and SpringBonnie) should not be used by anyone

and they are being retired to an appropriate location, while being looked at by our technician

When these suits killed the workers

so the company thought this was because these models did not work well

so the employees of the different locals were prohibited for using them

Now, let's go to FNaF 2

Where is here we see the Shadow animatronics

And one thing i have to say you before continue is that the calls of this game...

(like all the other games)

...are pre-recordered

Why?

It is a confusing topic to explain and we will deviate much from the main theme

so I will explain you in The Theory

But yep, the FNaF 2 calls are pre-recordered

On the Night 6, the phone guy told us someone used a yellow suit that was in the back

So I deduce at that time the classic costumes could not be used by anyone

In conclusion, this event of the 2 dead employees is before FNAF 2

That explains why already in FNAF 2 we see these Shadow Animatronics

And in FNaF 3

we can see them both in the minigames ...

helping the souls of the children

Shadow Freddy makes the robots follow him to where the purple man is, the killer

to get revenge

but then the robots can't pass

because as the phone guy told us in FNAF 3

The safe rooms are rooms that don't appear on the building's blueprints and are not carried by the robots in their programming

for that reason they say "ERR (Error)" when they want to pass

And we can see Shadow Bonnie in a minigame he gives a cake to the soul of Golden Freddy

So if both characters are helping the souls of the children

this means they are good

and maybe both feel some guilt about the children

or maybe they also need the killer to die so they can be free too

In conlusion, the Shadows are 2 dead workers who died on SpringBonnie and Fredbear

And they want to help the chlidren

And something to finish the video and confirm more theory

as we can see Shadow Freddy is the same as Golden Freddy (Fredbear), a model that we already know

But... and Shadow Bonnie?

at first it was believed this was Toy Bonnie

but their teeth don't match because Toy Bonnie has 2 very large central teeth

and doesn't seem to match with Springtrap

who before was SpringBonnie

SO...

Which Springlock model is this?

Remember there is another game where there is a Springlock animatronic that no one knows who it is...

And it seems to match perfectly with the eyes and shape of the mouth of Shadow Bonnie

Do you already know who I'm talking about ...?

something else from Starbucks I am going to do the zombie Frappuccino I don't

know if you had that but I thought it was awesome oh my gosh let me know in

the comments if you had one it tasted kind of like apple and caramel I'm not

sure exactly what was in it but I'm pretty sure there was no coffee but it

had a really nice Apple taste some people loved it some people hated it so

let me know what you thought I just thought it would be cool to do some of

the Starbucks drinks and that was actually my daughter Sierra's idea she's

on Ventura entail and you got to go see her over there sometime if you haven't

yet she's doing a really neat Minecraft series I can't remember the name of it I

think it's like an awkward Minecraft tale and actually I'm in a couple of the

videos with her yeah so it's kind of cool I think it is so neat to try their

different drinks let's start with this guy I'm not gonna change anything about

them okay let's see what we can do I did get some mods we'll see how this goes

lipstick Oh what about eyes wait what what happened why did that happen

and that is so bright that that is bright but it looks nicer and it makes

his pink hair stand out and he kind of looks like the hawk because the zombie

skin was so ugly I just can't and I can't get on him here what in the world

are you doing it back okay I am gonna go with this look at his eyes those are so

pretty

okay well I think he definitely looks better like this okay now I lost my eyes

I can't even find them oh my gosh he lost his eyes away

that's not down okay well I don't know you tell me

bad good or huh why did you click on this video right look at his green shoes

like I'm trying to tie it in we grieve because zombies have to kind of be in

style okay let's see here we need a tattoo zombies have to have tattoos

because if I'm not gonna have the whole blood all over it skin he's gotta have

tattoos okay how do we do this now let's go find

tattoos is that under makeup that's not makeup no silly that's not makeup that

would be under body right and there it is okay what are we gonna get oh he

doesn't know he's like hey hey that's something I can look for what in the

world is that I am NOT gonna click on that I have no idea what that is and

it's purple anyway let's see here Oh what wait why is the office oh I

guess he's naked cuz we have to see what he's gonna look like never mind

look I've got like meanness here what is that that is pretty I'll put that on a

girl someday but not on this zombie I don't think well that's cool okay and

it does have some brown in it and green which we can do any color we want

because there's really no rules in this that's a neat haircut that could be

I like it I mean that doesn't really make it perfect but it kind of does to

darker maybe I don't know they look they look kind of cool and does she need a

Sambi tattoo I don't know maybe not I mean I guess we don't need one for her

we could give her some that's not what I wanted

need a big Oh zombie bracelet oh that's cool it's not exactly zombie but it is

neat and it matches her arms so much you can hardly tell it's there okay I like

and she's so happy I don't know why maybe she just got a person you know

that's gross I know okay so there you have it the zombie Jane Fonda look-alike

that I don't think she's too bad and there is the zombie guy and he looks

like um I don't know he's not too sure but those eyes I love the eyes and I'm

zombie girl and why can't I pull them both in at once I probably can and don't

know what I'm doing okay so for the girl what is her name gonna be

10.or/Tenor G - The Best Over-all Budget Smartphone (2017)!? - Duration: 9:52.

The 3 most important changes in the smartphone industry in 2017 are the disappearing bezels,

the dual camera and the vanishing headphone jack.

Let's concentrate on the first two.

I have made a video on the bezel less LG q6 earlier the card will pop up now if you want

to watch it, but that phone doesn't do anything else other than being bezel-less and so we

have this phone the 10.or g Which has a dual camera which is very capable and everything

else better than other competitors for the price of 13k, there are two models and i have

the 4GB and 64GB combination here.

Design and Build Quality Design and Build quality are always the first

preference and this phone from a new manufacturer did a great job with that metal body.

Yes!

The design looks familiar, but that silver antenna lines gives an elegant look, btw the

black one look even better please prefer buying the black variant over this gray color.

I like the silver accent around the camera modules and the fingerprint sensor giving

it a cleaner vibe.

The curved edges of the metal body makes this phone sit in your palm also makes it a little

bit slippery the same time, but you'll get used to it pretty quickly and then the weight

it evenly distributed all over the phone which makes it feel lighter than it actually is.

The top and bottom cups are plastic for better signal strength if you were wondering.

And there is also an hybrid card slot which i'm not a fan at all, because i use two

sim cards and a memory but the 64GB internal storage and the google photos saves me.

Both the slots support 4G VoLTE and if you tend to use microsd card it is expandable

upto 128Gb, But then i love and hate the buttons, i love em because they are of good quality

and they give a satisfying tactile click and they're sturdy, i hate em because the power

button is placed above the volume rockers which cannot be reached and i accidentally

click the volume down button trying to power it off all the time but i eventually got used

to it.

The Fingerprint sensor is situated in a perfect place which is accurate, fast and reliable.

But in this case i would have liked to see the fingerprint sensor on the bottom chin

of this phone which is just blank and leave us with big bezels and especially coming from

a bezel-less display it's overwhelming to me but that's the only problem i have with

the design choice.

As we already started speaking about the front let's talk about a few things, and the first

important one being the DISPLAY.

It has a 5.5 inch full HD display and the glass has a 2.5d curve to it, which feels

good while drawing something from the corners of the screen and the gorilla glass 3 protection

is really good because they at least mentioned it, not like Xiaomi, coz they never mention

what glass they use.

The touch sensitivity is really, really good, the best i've used so far and The 1080p

display is great but it's a bit on the warmer side and a little bit dull and i would prefer

a cooler accent but then, the screen get's really bright so, it's decently viewable

outdoors but even though turning down the brightness all the way down the brightness

seems to be like it's around 15%, that's not a big deal but something to know.

But overall the media consuming experience with this screen is going to be great and

you can watch films with your friends together without any problem because its viewing angles

are pretty good too, the audio that comes out from the ear piece which is directed toward

you and another speaker on the bottom right which makes it a good media consuming device

and the speakers are fine tuned by dirac a company which make quality audio equipments.

The audio is loud and the stereo experience lets you watch your favourite youtube video

without plugging in your headphones, they have the best quality that i have heard from

a budget smartphone till date but it lacks a little bit of dynamics, but that's fine.

There's an LED notification light on the top but it's just a single color for everything

which is helpful just to know that you have notifications but nothing specific but then

the screen wakes up whenever you get a new notification which is helpful.

At Least they included an LED notification light unlike the LG Q6 which doesn't have

either of those.

And then about performance.

It has the Snapdragon 626 with the adreno 506 graphics and 4Gigabytes of RAM.

Snapdragon 626 is an improvement to the already popular, performer and efficient processor

the snapdragon 625 and that combined with the Stock android Nougat with a few Amazon

apps, the User experience is smooth.

Everything runs in a pretty good framerate and the software optimisation also helps us

with the battery performance but let's talk about that in a bit.

Playing heavy graphic intensive games is not at all a problem and it's really smooth especially

considering the price i would give the performance and responsiveness an A+ and then the multitasking

with the 4GB RAM is really well done.

It saves a lot in memory to bring em back when needed and dual window mode and switching

between apps are so buttery, they're are eye candy to watch, you won't experience any

kind of lag at all.

The company also promises an android oreo update and regular security patches and after

i completed making the video it got an update of about 250MB which added the OTG support

which wasn't present out of the box and few more updates with the latest october security

patch which is sweet.

The best part is even though it has a metal body it doesn't get hot even while heavy gaming

or long media consuming sessions might be because of the 14nm architecture.

Overall performance and Ram management is on point and you're going to be completely

satisfied with every penny you invest.

Now coming to the interesting part THE CAMERA.

Both rear cameras are 13mp with a decent aperture of f2.0 which can let in a lot of light and

one is a regular rgb sensor and the other one is a monochrome like the one you'd find

on the Moto g5s plus and a few honor devices.

It basically improves the dynamic range and brings in some sharpness and it clearly shows

the results.

The colors are reproduced very well and the dynamic range is extraordinary for a camera

in the budget category and the exposure is pretty good and HDR helps bring in the dynamics

range and bring up shadows really well but i find the pictures to be more towards the

warmer side but that's not a problem because you can tweak it later.

Learn to use HDR when needed because it some time over sharpens the images and The Dual

camera also help with some pretty neat BOKEH, The algorithm tries to bring in the best it

can most of the times and the portraits you get from this camera is fantastic, That dreamy

background it brings to make the subject more pop out is extremely well done.

It gets some pretty good low light shots too, might not be the best but gets the job done,

make sure you enable HDR which really improves the contrast and dynamic range.

The front camera is a 16MP camera they want to improve their selfie game here, the pictures

come out really well, yes it's better than all the budget smartphone cameras i've used

but it lacks dynamic range, like all the other do.

The sky is really blown out in most of the images but when the background has some vivid

colors it produces some pretty great pictures, the sharpness is quite on point and the flash

in front helps with improving the low light selfies.

The video with the rear camera is decent and it seems like the eis seems to do a pretty

good job but there is a jarring effect that shows up sometimes while panning which doesn't

look good and the dynamic range is also decent and it shift exposures accordingly.

The sharpness and color reproduction are really worth it.

It focuses fast and it can shoot in both 30 and 60fps in 1080p and that's impressive

for the budget.

But the eis does not work in 60fps.

A software update can potentially improve the video capabilities for sure.

Yes This the dual camera setup, might not be the best implementation because I would

like a wide angle or telephoto lens but this camera is highly capable and i shouldn't talk

much for the price.

Overall a great contender in the camera department.

And finally the 4000mAh Battery Let me say this, the battery never gave up.

I use the phone mostly for most intensive task and i charge my phone only after 10 or

10:30 at night with still plenty of juice left.

The screen on time averages at around 5 hours sometimes i get more that 6 and a half hours

which is great because the 4000mAh battery and the stock optimisation brings in some

great battery results.

And if you moderately use it you can easily get it through 1 and a half or 2 if you use

it occasionally.

So, battery backup is perfect here and you don't have to worry about battery and concentrate

on more important stuff on screen and it takes a little over 2 hours to charge the giant

4000mAh battery which is really decent.

Finally a few minor but important things to know it didn't come with OTG support out of

the box but after the recent update OTG is supported now, the bezels which is really

big in 2017 and the video capabilities which can be ironed out with a software update.

It has a headphone jack and the audio output is great.

The call quality is good and the volume can be really boosted to max which is good in

a noisy environment but you can hear a little bit of distortion when you do that and the

person in the other end can hear me clearly, no problem.

Overall a great package better than most smartphones and it's a direct competition with the g5s

plus, mi a1 and redmi note 4 and lot of other mid range devices in 2017 with a lesser price

tag and if you want to try a new brand with decent display, stock android, stellar performance,

impressive battery life and a great camera for photography and bokeh and all other little

details for 13000 this is an undeniable choice.

PTSD No 1 Injury Among Contractors in 2017 - Duration: 6:08.

Hi this is Brian Wiklendt with Garfinkel Schwartz. I'm here in Maitland Florida in our main

office. I've been traveling a lot. Hurricanes dodging them that kind of thing. We're back

up to speed here in Florida. We got lucky this time in central Florida.

At any rate what I wanted to do is explain to you that I've gotten some statistics

that are somewhat troubling for the overseas contractor community in terms of PTSD. As

of the year 2017 PTSD is the most prevalent injury that has been reported out of all injuries

that occur to overseas contractors mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan still. And they are

covered by the Defense Base Act which is what I specialize in. And I wanted to try to touch

base with what to do when you come back and you're starting not to feel yourself or

your family says you're not just not the same person you used to be. Your personality's

different. What's going on? It's a very troubling and very fearful type situation

that requires help from a professional. I understand that a lot of my clients and potential

clients have problems and issues dealing with the reality that they might need some help.

One of the biggest problems that overseas contractors have that I deal with are that

you don't get an exit interview. Once something happens once an incident or something happens

that's that's horrific warlike military people get briefed they have to be seen by

someone they have to be cleared they have to undergo testing and things like that to

to to make sure that they get the help that they need now that PTSD is prevalent and has

to be addressed by the VA. Unfortunately overseas contractors get a plane flight home and that's

it. They get to go to the airport and go home. So there's really there's no counseling

that happens there's nothing that happens so people are left out on on their own to

try to figure out how to deal with this.

A lot of my clients say that I'm going to try to fight through this thing I'm going

to try to deal with this. I don't want people to not hire me because I've been labeled

as a person with PTSD or I don't want people to take my guns away all kinds of issues that

occur that a person just does not want to seek treatment. But the honest honesty of

the situation is you need to seek treatment for for your own benefit. And if it comes

if it if it enters into your mind and you and you can say this thing is affecting me

to such a degree that I can't work in certain areas anymore I can't deal with crowds I

can't deal with loud noises I'm having issues at home with my family they're not

I I have angry outbursts things like that you have to be you just have to go see somebody.

Our law firm advances the costs to do eval- medical evaluations if you don't have the

means to go do that yourself. We can facilitate that. We can't pay for medical treatment

but we can pay for an evaluation and advance those costs hopefully to recoup them in the

future when a claim is filed. And so it's really tough to say this is tough love but

if you have issues and your family is telling you you need some help you got you got to

listen to them. And don't worry about your guns and don't worry about your future employment.

There's treatment options so many that are popping up every day a new treatment option.

Very creative options. There are Canines for Warriors programs that have dogs. There's

equine therapy. There's all kinds of memory type eye movement therapy. There's Tetris

playing the game Tetris tends to help people with PTSD. There's just so many different

things that are coming out every day that are very helpful to people.

Most people don't know about them. Most of them should be covered by your insurance

company under the Defense Base Act down the road. And like I said this has become a very

well-known prevalent problem. It it's not called shell shock anymore it's not something

to hide from. And the treatment that you can receive will definitely hopefully be to your

benefit through clinical trials through counseling through medications all all kinds of different

options that are out there. And like I said this is this is a hot button issue this is

no longer a taboo type situation. You shouldn't be afraid of that label because hopefully

you'll get better and with treatment you'll gradually get better and better and better

and then obviously the the jobs will be afforded to you in the future and things like that

will will go your way. So don't try to hide from the fact that you're going to need

professional help and try to and get it when you come to the resolution that I need some

that I'm going to be limited in some way whether that's work whether that's home

life I can't do the things I used to do I I'm I can't get out of bed in the morning

I can't sleep all those things combined could create a diagnosis of PTSD.

And like I said PTSD is recognized as a disease. It's not on your own accord. It wasn't

because of you. It's something that you experienced a traumatic event and it caused

you mental anguish and harm that you need to get taken care of. So again I don't want

to beat a dead horse but please get treatment please call my office any time for free. Go
