Bob Schulz Interview by Monk Rowe - 2/15/1998 - San Diego, CA - Duration: 40:08.

We are filming in San Diego for the Hamilton College Jazz Archive, and it's my pleasure

to have Bob Schulz, vocalist and cornetist, and cup mutist, which we'll talk about that

in a moment, with us.

Thanks for coming and joining me.

BS: Well I appreciate you asking me.

It's an honor.

MR: I just saw a great set of music backed up by great people, and these jazz parties

are a phenomenon that I wasn't even aware of.

When did you first start doing these?

BS: Well I haven't been on it that long, but I've been, I think the Atlanta Jazz Party

was the first one, and that was in '91 I think it was, '91, '92.

And a lot of the same guys that we have here were paying that.

However there is a few that I'd never played with before, because this is kind of the L.A.

area and there's some people that come up from there and some people that came out from

New York that I've heard of and I've heard people talk about, and I finally experienced

it, and they're great.

Boy the last group we just played with, John Bunch and Bucky Pizzarelli, man, make everybody

look good.

MR: That's the cream right there, huh?

Especially that ballad that you sang.

BS: Well I just told - I stopped on the way up here, in the bar and I said to Bucky and

to John, I said man I've never been accompanied by anyone whose as sensitive as you two are.

They've done a lot of it, you know, and so they - talk about a support group, they were

great.

So it was easy to sing.

MR: Do you think that has anything to do with - not only that they've been doing it for

a long time, but knowing the role of your instrument?

BS: Oh yeah.

That's important in any field, especially in jazz.

You have to know where you belong, in an ensemble or whether you're accompanying someone else

who's soloing, or whether you're just being on stage, the showmanship.

I mean you have to know what you're supposed to do, and all these guys do, so it's an honor.

MR: Especially when you've got all those horns up there on some of these sets, and two trumpets

for instance.

BS: How about three trumpets?

MR: How about three.

I didn't see that one.

You had three up there?

BS: Oh, it was three last night.

Talk about a - but it worked out fine, it worked out just fine.

The two trumpets isn't quite as bad, because- MR: Because there's a tradition of that.

BS: Yeah.

There's a tradition and the Eddie Condon band has done that in the past and we did it last

night with Dan Barrett running the show, and he had an A line and a B line.

So much the same as Eddie Condon used to do.

And with Billy Butterfield and Wild Bill Davison.

And it worked out great.

And then at the end all hell breaks loose and everyone plays, so it's one of those.

MR: Well before the cameras were rolling you were telling me that you come from a big metropolis

in Wisconsin was it?

BS: Oh, yeah, sure, you betcha.

It's Wonewoc, Wisconsin.

It's 731 people, and like 48 people in my graduating class, you know it's one of those.

But it was very nice and I grew up, you know you grow up in a safe- everybody knows each

other, so it was a good way to grow up, it was a very nice upbringing.

MR: Did the small town atmosphere have anything to do with the music you heard as a kid?

BS: Well when I grew up, I always loved music, my father played a cornet and then it passed

down through the family, my brother and my sister, and I was the last one to get it,

and I was the only one who went on in it.

I went on to college at La Crosse, at that time La Crosse State Teacher's College.

And I taught music for seventeen years in a couple of schools in Wisconsin, and played

in the city band, in the town band, and used to play trumpet trios, some of those typical

Herbert L. Clarke things with the band, and loved it.

It was part of my life, as was sports, I enjoyed that, and hunting and fishing, you have to

do that in Wisconsin, it's one of those things.

MR: Well, kind of a well-rounded bunch of things to do, in education and performing.

Did you teach elementary up to high school, or the whole thing?

BS: Yeah.

I started out teaching everything from first grade through twelfth grade, because it was

very small schools, and then I was in junior high and then I ended up for the last eleven

years just teaching in high school.

The typical, you know, marching band, jazz ensembles, solos and ensembles, concerts,

that kind of thing.

MR: Well did you give that up to play more?

BS: Well I gave it up not on purpose, I probably would have still been teaching if it wouldn't

have been for the fact that I got divorced.

I got married in '63, which was kind of interesting because my wife and I at that time went to

New Orleans on our honeymoon, and I saw Jack Teagarden just before he died, because he

died I think in January of '64, And a bunch of other musicians down there, it was great.

But she was not that crazy about the music.

She liked the music but I was gone a lot.

And it didn't mix.

So we parted our ways.

I have three great kids from there that have grown up, two girls and a boy, and then I

came out and joined a gentleman by the name of Turk Murphy in San Francisco.

So I moved away, I quit teaching, I asked for a sabbatical but they wouldn't give it

to me because teaching jobs were hard to get, at least music teaching.

So I moved out to San Francisco and started playing out there.

And re-married and have a twelve year old boy right now.

MR: So San Francisco is your home now?

BS: Yes.

Well I shouldn't say, it's the area.

I live in Marin County, I live in San Anselmo which is about fifteen miles away.

MR: Did you have the gig before you moved.

BS: Yes.

MR: Yeah, you did.

BS: I had the gig but it was also iffy.

If you cut it you got the gig.

I mean if I didn't cut it I would have been out.

So then I would have probably moved back to Wisconsin.

I couldn't have taught where I was, but I would have gone somewhere else.

MR: Can you explain the term "trad jazz" for us?

BS: Kind of.

I think the word "trad" was invented if you would, by I think Turk Murphy might have actually

invented the word, but it was talked about with Turk and Lu Watters, Bob Helm, Wally

Rose, those guys, in the early 1940s.

The jazz swing era was going pretty strong, and Bebop was starting to come in.

And there was a group of guys in the San Francisco area who wanted to do something different

because they enjoyed the early King Oliver, Louis Armstrong and the early New Orleans

days.

And so they formed a band, a two trumpet band, with Lu Watters on one trumpet and Bob Scobey

on another, Turk, Bob Helm, and Wally Rose, Clancy Hayes and Bill Dart and Dick Lammi.

Those guys were playing.

And it was just a hell bent for leather strong sound, like I mean everyone just blew strong.

From what I understand there was very little dynamics but it was exciting, it was much

like a rock band today.

So they started playing the old chestnuts that had long been passed over by all the

Swing Era people.

MR: Basically songs from the twenties?

BS: Actually earlier.

Yeah, twenties.

And so they started playing those, and bringing some of the earlier Louis Armstrong and King

Oliver things out, and Spencer Williams tunes, and pretty soon it was catching on.

And pretty soon, they didn't know what they started, and after - I'm not sure how long

they were going, but '41 'till '44, '45, the war years broke them up and some of them had

to go in the service.

And after that they didn't really go on again.

Some of them split and went their separate ways.

Turk went his separate way and Bob Scobey went his way, and Clancy Hayes went along

with him, and they formed their own little bands.

And Turk, I played with Turk, he had a club in San Francisco called Earthquake Magoons,

which I think went for about 25 years.

And it's a funny story about it because the name was derived from L'il Abner, so Al Capp

was one of the characters in L'il Abner.

So Al Capp, they wanted to get permission from Al to use the name.

And so they wrote him a letter and it wasn't long after they got a letter back it says

as long as you keep your nose clean and play good music you can have it.

MR: Gee I hope they had that in a frame on a wall somewhere.

BS: I think it's somewheres in some of those books.

But the word "trad" was kind of, they called it traditional jazz because it was going back

to the roots, the early Armstrong, Oliver, Bunk Johnson and the early New Orleans type

people, which is a lot different than the music of George Lewis and some of those other

black musicians that started performing in the 40s.

It was a little more complicated in the early days.

They played some arrangements and things if you listen to Louis Armstrong's "Hot Five"

and "Hot Sevens" and some of those early things that King Oliver did, the New Orleans musicians

in the 40s, 50s, 60s, they don't touch him.

So they play the nice "When I Grow Too Old To Dream" songs and good Gospel type things,

and I'll probably get in Dutch for saying this, but it's a little different.

People nowadays would think when they think New Orleans, they think of the music that

you hear down there now, or you used to hear in the 50s and 60s, down at Preservation Hall

and Dixieland Hall when it was there.

But in reality, "trad" what they tried to coin as "trad" was re-creating the music from

the King Oliver and Louis Armstrong period.

MR: And is it the Chicago days?

Is it associated with the city?

BS: Yeah, it would have been the Chicago days.

MR: Now those bands, I don't know how many of them actually read music that much.

If you're saying that their music was pretty complicated, do you think it was worked out

in rehearsals?

BS: Well yeah.

There are some things that were worked out.

But I mean you had "Buddy's Habits" and you had - the mind goes blank -

MR: Well Jelly Roll Morton.

BS: And Jelly Roll Morton, yeah.

In fact Turk loved Jelly Roll Morton.

He tried to bring out as much of the old Morton stuff as possible, and play as much of that

as they could.

And that music was going on back then.

And that was the kind of music they wanted to re-create.

A lot of the current New Orleans groups, although there's some young guys down there now that

are doing that, but in the 40s, 50s and 60s and 70s they were just playing things that

were eight bars long, sixteen bars long, and just playing it.

But that was the music in those days, in the 20s.

I mean that jazz was, the big name writers, I mean the Jelly Roll Mortons.

Now they were writing and they were putting out some great stuff.

So there was good music being played.

And that's what he wanted to re-create.

MR: Is it curious to you that - correct me if I'm wrong - there doesn't seem to be that

many black musicians playing either trad or if you go to these festivals for instance,

that they're not playing this era of music.

BS: Yeah, that's true.

I don't know why.

Maybe it's passed them by as far as their interest.

Or maybe it's not in.

A lot of music and people who play music are governed by whether it's the ethnic group

or whether it's their peers or whoever, that seem to go with the flow.

So if the traditional jazz or old time jazz were in, there would be a lot of them playing.

But I guess that's the reason.

It's not hip so you can't find them.

And boy if they'd ever come out and start playing it and really re-creating some of

the old stuff that they did before, they would be in demand.

They could play anywhere they wanted to.

Right now the New Orleans, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band plays all over, but it's a

little different than what the very early music was.

And there's not even that many blacks down there playing in New Orleans in that band.

I guess they like the modern jazz feel.

Thank goodness for - the trumpet player that's- MR: Wynton.

BS: Yeah.

Wynton Marsalis.

Thank goodness for him.

He's come along and brought this back and re-introduced it to everyone again, and I

think the African-Americans are looking at it as cool, but that's not for me.

Let him do it.

MR: Yeah.

That's true.

And you wonder sometimes if Buddy Bolden for instance could envision that music that he

played on the stage of Lincoln Center, would it be like woah - because the music came from

such a - the word escapes me - a down home source, that it was really pop music, that

it was created sometimes by not schooled musicians, and now it's been elevated to an art form.

BS: Yeah, it's gotten better but the basis of it all is still blues.

No matter what you do everything you play is blues.

And I always felt that you've got to feel for blues period, you can almost play anything.

I mean it's very simple but it's so important for feeling.

You've got to have that.

I know a lot of people who technically are just monsters, but don't have it right there.

MR: And how do you get that you know?

BS: I don't know.

It's like the Germans.

The Germans don't seem to have that.

They've got to loosen up a little bit.

I don't know.

Maybe it's the upbringing, the schooling, I have no idea.

But sometimes the simpler the musician, the better.

I mean if they have lived the blues, if they've lived through some problems and things, they

seem to be able to relay that through their voice or instrument.

MR: Yeah.

So all you listeners out there you have to suffer a little bit.

BS: Well sometimes they suffer more than- MR: Did you ever envision when you were let's

say in your early teens, did you get into rock & roll at all?

Were you into the pop music of the day?

BS: No I wasn't.

I grew up in the 50s and I went to college in '56 through '60.

And I never liked it then.

There were some tunes, there were some things I liked, some of the simple things.

But for whatever reason, there was too much other going on I was listening to: Bing Crosby,

Frank Sinatra and oh the Condon group was going, and Nat King Cole I loved and Doris

Day.

And I mean there were so many singers out there, and so many great groups, and so much

other stuff happening with the big bands were still going a little bit, whether it was Billy

May, or whether it was Elgart's or whether it was Stan Kenton or you know, all those

guys back there, Woody Herman, and they were all great.

I loved that.

I just didn't get into the Rock 'n Roll.

MR: I'm picturing your college roommates maybe.

Did they get into what you were - or were able to find some compatriots?

BS: Well you know I don't even know.

I don't remember that.

I don't think there's any problem.

I mean they had their own things they were doing and it didn't bother me.

I would play once a week in a little bar in La Crosse for nothing and all the beer you

can drink type thing, but it was fun and that was my first experience of just playing.

Well actually it wasn't playing this kind of music.

My first experience was playing when I graduated from high school.

My band director had a little orchestra that he played in a bar in Mauston, Wisconsin.

MR: A little bit bigger?

BS: Yeah, probably about two thousand.

And we played at The Crystal Bar I remember and he wrote the lead sheets out for me, so

it was a guy that played tenor sax and clarinet, and this guy, my old band director was the

piano player and we had a string bass and drummer and myself.

And that's when I started playing all the old standards, the pop tunes, a lot of the

things they do here you know in these jazz festivals, which they never die, they always

can be drawn on, to use them.

And that was my first experience.

Then I played in college and graduated, and in '61 I got called up to active duty.

I was in the National Guard at the time, in fact the 32nd Division Band in Wisconsin.

And it was one of those six month programs at that time that they had that you could

go into before - and you'd go to meetings every week.

Well they had the Berlin crisis when they were going to put up the Berlin wall, and

so they called everybody up that was in Wisconsin, some ten thousand troops went out to Ft. Louis,

Washington.

I started playing in some of the old Top Five Grader clubs and NCO clubs and things like

that.

Somebody knew something about the old jazz, a guy by the name of Charlie Marshall had

all kinds of records and stuff, so we started to put together a little band called the Riverboat

Ramblers, which it's still going in Wisconsin, that started in '61.

And I sort of cut my teeth on that, playing everything.

We didn't play the west coast style, which is the traditional, which is banjo, tuba and

Chuck Murphy stuff, but we played you name it.

Eddie Condon, we played the New York style, we played the Chicago style, we played New

Orleans, everything.

And it was just fun.

A lot of dances and stuff.

MR: For the servicemen and their wives and families and all that.

BS: Yeah.

MR: The names still fascinate me you know.

Like if you're going to play a tune by Jelly Roll Morton, then is there something that

people do differently to play the Chicago style than if you're going to do an Eddie

Condon tune, and is that the New York style.

Is it something that you can put into words?

BS: No.

MR: Short answer to a long question.

BS: Well yeah.

MR: But I kind of expected it.

BS: Yeah, you know the Condon style, as I know it, or the New York style was pretty

free and easy going, and I loved it.

I mean you had great musicians playing out there: Billy Butterfield and Max Kaminsky

and Wild Bill Davison and Bob Wilber I remember him when he was out there.

And I mean there was a lot of guys who are still playing today.

And it just was - I don't know, this is my opinion, but it seems like it was just this

far from the Swing Era.

And they just sort of got together and started playing.

This may be all wrong - but they got together in a small group and started playing in this

club.

And the music, they just swung.

They had the traditional Dixieland or front line sometimes with a reed, a trombone and

a horn, and drums, string bass, piano and guitar, sometimes not.

But the people out there had a different view on how they played the music.

It was just that they did it differently.

And I can't give a legit answer to that question.

MR: Well I know it's like how do you improvise - which was my next question.

BS: Well that's a good one.

I tell you, at work I've been doing some adult jazz camps.

And they want to know, "How do you do that?"

And I say, "I can't tell you."

The best thing is you have to know the melody number one.

You've got to be able to play the melody and feel really comfortable with it, and then

go out and listen to some records would ya?

You've got to listen to the people.

Because I emulate people that I heard over the years, because I'm lucky, there were so

many great cornet and trumpet players that came along, whether it was Bunny Berrigan

or Wild Bill Davison or I love Bob Scobey, I have a band that's emulating him.

And Bobby Hackett and geez, Harry James, I mean there's so many, Charlie Spivak.

So you can always draw a little bit from everybody.

Muggsy Spanier is another guy I love.

MR: I can see these people coming to this camp and going, wait a minute I came to this

camp and now you tell me you can't tell me how to do this?

BS: Well after they leave they understand.

Because most of the people that come to the camp are at least 60 and over, and they made

a choice early in life, they were going to go out and make their fortune, instead of

being musicians.

But they used to play before that.

And now they say, gee there's more to life than that, I'm retired now and I'd like to

be able to play some of that stuff that I used to.

So they come in knowing full well that they may not ever take off.

But they're having fun.

So I just work with them.

I tell them you've got to listen to all the people.

And if it's here, for improvisation, you can do it.

If it isn't, you can't, I can't teach it.

You can teach people to go up and down on scales and arpeggios and things like that,

but that again is different.

What I was saying before about you've got to have the blues, you've got to have the

feeling.

And if it's there then you can make use of all the scales and all the study.

But if you don't have that then it's going to sound real mechanical.

MR: Do you ever have them scat or anything like that?

BS: Yeah, I used to.

In fact I used to sing like Louis, because I always loved Louis Armstrong.

And you can hear the gravel in my voice here.

And that gravel is there because I used to do that too much and I was hemorrhaging my

vocal chords and the doctor, you know he says, "What are you doing."

I says, "I'm doing this."

And he says, "Don't do that."

I said okay.

So I didn't do that anymore.

MR: Don't do it again please.

BS: Because I used to be a tenor and I could even sing falsetto.

I can't even come close to that anymore.

I can't do that at all.

So I said I want to be able to just sing plain.

MR: Isn't that interesting with his voice.

You wonder if he was twelve when he had that in his voice.

BS: I don't know.

Of course you know, the "Our Gang" the one guy in "Our Gang" did that huge voice.

MR: Oh that's right.

Oh man.

So you can make between playing with the trad festivals and these kind of festivals, you

can actually make a living as a musician - do you do other things?

BS: Are you saying that with a straight face?

MR: I'm trying.

BS: No.

The talk with other musicians is, "I'll bet my wife makes more money than yours."

MR: That's good.

BS: And my wife does make more money than I.

She's a manager, a property manager.

But she's very supportive and into it so- MR: That helps.

BS: Yeah I know.

Unless you want to maintain a family life you just can't just go out - in order to make

a good living you have to be gone all the time.

And then you can't stay married.

As it is she doesn't like me going as much as I do, neither does my twelve year old.

MR: Sure.

What's the difference when you go to a trad jazz festival?

Is there more organized bands?

BS: Yeah.

There's a lot of amateur type bands which they, like a lot of the European bands do,

they emulate a lot of the old records.

In fact they'll copy a lot of them verbatim.

They will copy the solos.

A lot of the Europeans will copy all the solos.

In fact there was some solos that I know there's a Japanese group that copied some things,

and they copied a record that had a skip in it, and they copied the skip.

So it was really crazy.

But the bands you find at these trad festivals, there's some good ones, they emulate maybe

the old Lu Watters, Yerba Buena band that one I was talking about before, two cornets,

and it just held that for leather, it was real strong.

Then there's bands that'll play a little bit of everything.

They'll play Country Western, they'll play jazz, they'll play whatever.

But you can see and I've seen over the last ten years, that years ago, some of the bands

were pretty good in the old traditional - the word traditional - the old Dixieland, I hate

to use it to say Dixieland, they were playing pretty good Dixieland and all the instruments

seemed to know how it was supposed to sound, how they would sound in it.

And they felt that, they listened to records.

But in the last ten years it seems like there's the bebop and the modern jazz guys and then

the big band guys that were schooled at North Texas State, you know there's no lab bands

and things around so they're out looking for work.

They're trying to play here and there, and there's just nothing.

Las Vegas and Reno is closed down as far as big orchestras now.

MR: They're using taped music now?

BS: Yeah.

Taped music and machines.

So they're jumping into the Dixieland circuit.

But they still sound like modern jazz players trying to do it.

And it sounds like eewww.

MR: No kidding.

BS: It just doesn't fit.

MR: Is there any let's say current, modern jazz being recorded today that you like to

listen to?

BS: Oh I don't know.

Probably not.

I mean I can't say that with an educated opinion, because I'm not drawn to it so I can't say

oh yeah, this is a group I like to listen to.

I like to listen to talk radio.

And sometimes I like to listen to, actually, strange as it seems, 50s rock & roll.

MR: I do too.

BS: So the old things, I get a kick out of that and I enjoy it.

Now that I look back at it it doesn't seem to be quite as bad as I felt at the time.

MR: Well oddly enough, I think some of that music, I like to listen to the arrangements.

They were arranged and I suspect that some of the people behind that music were actually

some of the swing band arrangers and so forth.

They had a sense of song form and where to put the horn parts and all that.

Even though it was a new kind of music there was that kind of carryover.

And that's what I like to listen for in the music anyway.

BS: Yeah, that's good.

MR: Tell me about your horn here.

BS: This is an old horn that has lot of patches on it.

MR: It's a cornet.

BS: It's a cornet.

There's bubble gum covering here - well not bubble gum just regular gum - and with some

masking tape on until I get it fixed.

But I've got patches on it all over.

It's early 30s, it's an Olds, a Los Angeles Olds and it's early 30s.

I got it for $75 and I wasn't interested in the horn at the time, I was interested in

this old button mute here.

It's a Conn- MR: It's called a button mute?

BS: Well only because it's small.

That's just a name.

I'm not sure if that's really what they would call this one, but that's what they call it

nowadays, they refer to it as buttons.

And this is one like King Oliver and Louis Armstrong used to use back in the early days

of jazz when they were playing.

Clyde McCoy used to use this.

When he played "Sugar Blues" he'd put on a little plunger over the outside and play it.

MR: So it was a muted sound to start with and then it was a waaa kind of on top of that.

BS: And then you put - I don't know if this one - this one isn't as good.

This is a brass cup.

That's a poor example right there.

MR: Well it's to emulate what he does.

BS: I generally use it with this, and that just gives it kind of a dirty, bluesy sound.

And this is a Pennsylvania Railroad cup.

MR: I suppose you could almost use anything, right?

BS: Oh yeah.

And I do.

MR: And I see you've got a handkerchief in there just to get that perfect sound.

BS: Yeah.

It also becomes a little harsh if you don't have something in there.

But you can use a six ounce styrofoam cup works wonderful too.

MR: Plus you can always just reach down the table in front of you and say, "Can I borrow

your glass?"

BS: Well sure, I've done that several times.

If I travel to a festival or a party and I don't have my mute - a coffee cup, you know,

you use whatever you can for a crutch.

MR: I think that's interesting when you related that thing about the overseas band that learned

the song and put a skip in it.

I had heard that before, that some of the overseas groups would emulate things even

down to the poor recording quality - the fact that they couldn't use the whole drumset,

that they could only use wood blocks or whatever, so that's what they would do.

It's pretty cool that overseas people have so much respect.

BS: Well they love the stuff over there.

It's more jazz musicians who aren't doing it over here go overseas and they're welcomed

with open arms.

They love them.

They love the music.

Unfortunately either we've moved ahead or backwards, I don't know what it is over here

in our society they've taken it too blase, they've taken it for granted and they just,

aah.

MR: Is it the exotic factor, that it's from somewhere else do you suppose?

BS: Well I don't know.

I can't say that I go out and play some of the stuff that I've heard from overseas.

I don't know.

MR: That's true.

That's true.

What's coming up on the schedule for you?

Are you going to be out to some more festivals?

BS: Well let's see, Monterey is coming up, the Monterey Jazz Festival coming up.

I have a band that's called Bob Schulz Frisco Jazz Band which is a band that is patterned

after Bob Scobey and Clancey Hayes.

So we play a lot of the old jazz but we swing it a little more.

And there again it's kind of a funny thing because the guys who play still play in the

old style, but we try not to play it exactly like the records of the old days.

Sometimes I'll use a string bass, sometimes I'll use tuba, sometimes I'll use banjo, sometimes

I'll use a guitar you know.

And just to mix it up and make it just more flexible.

And I can't play stuff - unless it's an old rag - I can't play the same all the time,

I just can't do it.

I had to do that with Turk, because his was all orchestrated.

His music was arranged and you could stay within the boundary of the arrangement.

You'd have to play the same notes he had written, but I mean you'd play your sixteen measures

and then someone would take four measures in a solo and another guy would take it, and

it was always the same, the intros, the outtros, they were all the same.

I enjoyed that and I learned a lot as far as presentation and what the people liked,

but I couldn't do that.

I did it eight years, and I couldn't do it the rest of my life.

I would turn into an alcoholic.

MR: Yeah.

It could happen too easily.

Can you think of the worst gig you ever found yourself on?

BS: I knew you were going to ask me that, and I didn't think of that.

I've thought of gigs where I forgot my horn where I've driven, then practicing and picked

up my horn case, took it down to a case and opened it up and-

MR: I thought I was the only one who had done that.

BS: Oh no, I've done that.

MR: You never left it on top of your car and drove away did you?

BS: Yes.

No, not on top of my car, but I've left it on top of a car in other circumstances, which

I don't even want to talk about.

MR: Man, like what did you do, you open your horn-

BS: Well that was probably what I looked like, you know, like that.

And somebody found me a horn, at some high school or some place, I think it was at Lake

Geneva, Wisconsin, and somebody knew of someone who had a horn.

And that was a chore because you're used to a mouthpiece.

And this mouthpiece is something I've had.

This is a cornet but this is a trumpet mouthpiece.

And I had the receiver to fit that, fixed to fit that.

And that's the only mouthpiece I can play on.

It's real sensitive.

MR: Well that would have been a good time to do that attitude like someone goes out

and finds you a horn and then go, "I'm not going to play that."

Really make a reputation.

BS: Yeah.

No that wouldn't have done it.

I don't know, it's like asking, which tune do you hate to play.

I really don't hate to play anything, because they've all got something.

And I've never known, I know people who just say, "I'll never play that tune, oh I hate

that tune."

I don't hate any tunes.

I mean they've all got something to offer.

And if someone especially requests it, that's a great reason to play it, because you're

going to win a fan, you're going to win somebody over.

You're there to entertain, not just to entertain yourself but to entertain the people who are

out there.

And if they're happy, I'm happy.

If they're smiling and enjoying it, I'm going to feel the same way.

And I guess that's why I keep playing.

MR: Well that sounds like a good way to wrap this up.

I mean those are good sentiments, and something that future jazzers could probably profit

from hearing.

BS: I think so.

If you're doing this just for the bucks it's going to not be any fun.

But the money is important, really important, but you also have to have some love for it.

And being able to play at these jazz parties as I'm doing here in San Diego, and rubbing

elbows with some of the great people, it elevates you to places that you didn't play before.

And I know that it's there, but if you're playing with people that aren't into that

bag, or aren't playing that way, it's really hard to get up.

And it's easy to get up when you're playing with all these great people around here.

MR: Well best of luck to you, and I hope you can cook up a good set for later on this evening.

BS: Well we'll see what we can do.

MR: Okay.

BS: Going to have to cook up some dinner pretty soon.

MR: That's right.

Thanks a lot.

BS: Thanks a lot.

Arnold Schwarz is BACK, BABY! Nintendo CONFIRMS ?s, Dr. DisRespect RETURNS, & Switch Success! - MNM - Duration: 1:28.

Sorry about the hat everyone, it's been a long day (yesterday).

I just wanted to send a special little shoutout for the lovely little lady that rear-ended

me and then hit-and-ran today.

Let's talk nerd.

After a couple months of forced hiatus after his confession of infidelity onstream, Dr.

DisRespect has officially returned to streaming as of February 5th.

His stream almost broke records hitting 389,000 concurrent viewers.

In a video posted on Nintendo of America's Twitter account, it appears that producer

Koizumi has officially answered some long-held questions about the Mario universe.

Namely, about the -giggle- release of Mario's nipples in Super Mario Odyssey.

As well as confirming that the mushroom on Toad's head is, in fact, a part of his head.

Now I have so many more questions, Koizumi!!!

In a bit of random news, a chart released from Kotaku puts an interesting spin on the

release of the Switch, which now officially has 3 times as many games as the Wii U had

at this point in it's release cycle.

Maybe this has something to do with the success or maybe it's just because nobody liked the

Wii U.

In some random news, it looks like Amazon has just picked up it's latest star for it's

latest series.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governator himself, appears to have signed on for a new Western

series called, "Outrider."

And that's all the news that we have for you guys today.

Thanks so much for watching this video!

Be sure to join in that conversation down below.

As always, all the links to these sources are in the description box.

And I will you guys next nerd.

HEALTHY VEGAN RECIPES + NEW VEGAN SNACKS // WHAT I ATE IN A DAY #89 | Mary's Test Kitchen - Duration: 10:16.

Hello friends and not yet friends.

Welcome back to another what I ate Wednesday full of fantastic vegan meals.

Plus, I got to try a bunch of new vegan treats thanks to Thrive Market who I am partnering

up with for this video.

If you're new, Thrive Market is the best online store where you can easily find tons of vegan

goodies and if you have other dietary concerns or you only want to shop organic or kosher

or fair trade and things like that, you can do so easily.

They buy direct so they can offer really great prices to their members and ship fast, straight

to your door.

Such a good way to make life easier.

If you're in the US, you can try it out yourself with a free 30 day membership and 25% off

your first order with free shipping with the link in the description and see for yourself.

As usual, I'm starting the day with coffee.

Usually I just put vanilla soy milk in my coffee but today I get to try this hazelnut

creamer by nutpods.

It's unsweetened with 0 g of sugar, which I never see.

I like that because I'm while not anti-sugar, but when I don't need to have it, I don't

need to have it.

And it's so good.

Just perfect.

Friends, this is my new favorite coffee creamer.

If you've already clicked that link in the description and you're shopping as you're

watching, add this to your cart right now.

It's so good.

Later, I had congee, AKA jook, made with brown rice and lentils.

For those new to congee, it's a rice porridge that's popular all over Asia.

I grew up with it but always with white rice.

This version has more protein and fiber to keep me full longer, plus it tastes amazing

with all these toppings.

But actually, this morning, I took it out of the freezer.

While I'm heating that up, let me show you how it's made.

Start with a cup each of uncooked brown rice and lentils.

Rinsed.

throughly.

Then for flavour, a few scallions sliced length-wise, just the white parts.

Normally, I'd add an inch long hunk of ginger but I'm out so it's ginger powder this time.

And salt.

Then, add a bunch of water or veggie broth.

Take it to the stove if you're not there already and get that water to a rolling boil over

high heat.

Then turn down the heat so you get a steady simmer.

This keeps going for about an hour and a half.

Which, I know, is a long time so do this when you have time to stick around in the kitchen

with a book, a podcast, or a friend to keep you company.

You'll want to lower the heat as the congee gets thicker.

Also, if you had it covered, now you'll want to leave that lid off.

The toppings are half the fun.

Or, more like three quarters of the fun.

We've got some chopped scallion.

Just the green parts.

Sriracha cashews from Thrive Market's own brand.

Thrive Market has lots of these basic staple items with their own store brand which makes

things really affordable.

Just a little spicy with a little sweetness and light on the salt.

Wonderfully fresh tasting and buttery.

They're organic.

If you haven't tried these before, you've got to.

Anyways, they make a nice alternative to using peanuts which is more traditional.

Also, instead of vegan pork floss which can be hard to find, I'm using Louisville Vegan

Jerky, Reuben's Smokey Carolina flavour.

Thank you to everyone who told me I had to try it.

You were absolutely right.

Sweet and savory, salty but not too salty.

Chewy, meaty deliciousness.

Plus avocado to add some creaminess.

And a touch of fragrant sesame oil.

Leave it out if you don't do oil but if you do, it adds a lot of flavour.

I love these different textures and flavours together.

A bit of freshness from the scallions, creamy avocado, spicy cashews with that bit of crunch

and chewy vegan jerky.

And it looks great too.

Well, it looks great, then I put the rest in containers.

I had to try these pretty soon after breakfast.

Not because I was hungry exactly...but just seeing them there made me want to snack.

Vegan Rob's Brussels Sprouts Puffs.

They basically taste and feel like non-cheesy cheesy puffs.

Do they taste like Brussels sprouts?

Not really.

You get onion and garlic and nooch though.

Would I buy them again?

Probably not.

I'd like to try another flavour though.

Let me know if you've tried this brand and which ones you've liked or disliked.

Why should I make more mistakes when I can learn from your mistakes.

You know what wasn't a mistake though?

These Love Truffles from Lulu's Artisan Chocolates.

Made from wild harvested, heirloom, arriba unroasted Ecuadorian cacao.

That's different.

This dark chocolate is fruity, reminding me of dried cherries, but not actually cherries,

if you know what I mean.

The inside is silky smooth.

Hazelnut butter.

So good.

This is a little self-love for sure.

I would definately get these again and I want to try more from this brand.

And Valentine's day is coming up so there's an idea for a little something.

Lunch was a big something; a big bowl of this coconut miso noodle soup.

It started with a spoonful of coconut oil over high heat.

When the oil melted completely, I turned down the heat to medium and added a sliced shallot

and crushed garlic.

After a minute, I added tomato paste.

My sister mentioned this technique to me the other day so it stuck in my head.

After a few minutes, most of the other ingredients go in.

Turn up the heat and let it come to a boil.

Now I add coconut cream.

Dissolve the miso paste with some of the broth first so you don't get unexpected spoonfuls

of super salty lumps.

And that's it.

Four big servings of coconut miso soup.

This was so perfect.

The noodles, creamy coconut broth, saltiness from the miso, delicious veggies that really

hold that flavour.

I could swim in this stuff.

But don't.

I don't think that's hygenic.

But what I'm trying to say is...maybe add a can of coconut cream to your cart.

You know what else you should add to your cart?

This delicious Korean BBQ Sauce.

For this scrumptious steaming hot rice bowl that is ridiculously easy to make.

While your rice is cooking and oven is preheating, prep a baking sheet and dump on three cups

of frozen veggies.

I'm using a mix of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots.

Add three cups of chickpeas or other cooked beans.

Drizzle on some of the Korean BBQ sauce and a tablespoon or so of olive oil.

I also like adding a tablespoon of nooch and a generous pinch of white pepper.

Massage everything thoroughly so that all the veggies and chickpeas get coated but quickly

so your hands don't freeze off and die.

Pop that in the oven at 450°F for 30 minutes or so.

Meanwhile, prep any other toppings you'd like.

Soon, everything will be ready to assemble.

Now you have dinner for two big appetites packed with nutrients and flavour.

I love this sauce.

It has a well fermented soy sauce flavour with spicy peppers balanced with some sweetness

from molasses, and tangy vinegar.

Loving it.

Also loving Thrive Market.

Don't forget you can have a 30 day free trial membership to try it out.

You're going to save with those wholesale prices which are often 25% to 50% less than

retail, save with this offer for 25% off your first purchase on top of that, and free shipping

right to your door.

Get those wholesale prices.

Get all the vegan treats and staples, save some money, save some time and gas by not

having to go to the store.

If you love it, go for that annual membership and Thrive Market will give one to a low-income

family, teacher, veteran or student.

I love this so much.

I love that Thrive Market really cares about people.

And I care about you...Thank you so much for watching, my friends.

I hope you liked this video.

Please give it a thumbs up if you did and let me know if you plan to try anything from

this video in the comments below.

See you next week.

Bye for now!

CLOSET CLEAROUT - HELP ME CLEAN MY WARDROBE I KAJA-MARIE - Duration: 11:46.

Hi guys and welcome back to another video

Today I'm doing this video vlog style

Because I thought I'd take you along as I clear out this wardrobe

I thought I'd prepare for spring

Pick out some pieces to give away to charity or other

And some items might be sold

It's actually not that long since I cleaned last time

So there is kind of clean here, but I feel I need to go through again

I went through it all in December I think

But I'm so getting ready for spring now, so I might as well clean out some more

I can be a little bit harder and take out a few more pieces

It's pretty full in here so I don't have room for any more...

I hope you like joining me on this, we'll see how this video turns out

Give me a thumbs up if you like this video, and want me to do it more often

Maybe every season?

So, let me know. And don't forget to subscribe for more videos

So, let's see

First off; I have a rack standing here in front of my closet

So I need to move that. These are items I haven't photographed yet

These are new items that will be in store soon

From different brands. So this is things I'm not doing anything about

Same goes for that pile over there

That is also new stuff

That I haven't used/photographed yet

So I don't need to go through that either, but let's move this first

We'll put it there, that will do. And then

Let's start

We can start with the jackets! Here, I have

I have a lot of jackets, blazer, bomber jackets and so on

Here I have a few winter jackets and some new ones that I'm not removing

But let's go through quickly and see

For example this one

It's super nice. Bomber jacket from Maje

I almost never wear it, but I want to give it another shot this spring

So I'll leave it for now, because the color is amazing and I love this patch

This jacket is already up for sale

Because I have two of these kind of faux fur jackets

This is lambswool, the other is faux fur and I don't need two

So this is already up for sale, if you're interested you can find it at Tise

But I have it hanging in my closet either way

It's way to cramped here, I can't wait to get the winter coats packed away

These two for instance

These two bomber jacket, they are pretty similar

This one is from Bik Bok, Never Denim with this print

And this one is from H&M Trend with this print

One of these can go

I think it will be this one

Most of these items will be sold on Tise

So I'll link to my profile below

Because I already removed a lot the last time, and that went to charity

One of these two can also leave

I think it will be

In these drawers I have

t-shirts, tops

Here I have t-shirts

Printed t-shirts, white t-shirts, white t-shirts

Colored t-shirts, other tops like bodys and so on

And then I have other tops and black t-shirts here

I really just cleaned this drawer out

So I won't go through that one, and then I have

Sweaters. Not that long since I cleaned this one either.

It looks pretty nice in here

This is actually the last cabin I cleaned, I think it was only

A few weeks ago

Here I have a few sweaters

I think I'm done with this one, so we're taking that out

And then in this one I have more sweaters

A Christmas knit, and a few sweaters that I like to just wear around the house

But I think this will have to go

And in the bottom drawer there is a lot of knits

Which I love, I think all of these are really nice

And I''m gonna start putting more of my knits this way, because it's so much easier to see everything

And all these drawers are just underwear and so on, so I'm not gonna go through those

But we can start with this now

Here we have long skirts, dresses and jackets

Let's start. Here is my "bunad", that will of course stay there

Then I have a lot of winter coats that also are staying

A lot of these are pretty new

This is actually already up for sale at Tise

It's a suede leather coat, which is super nice

But it's pretty similar to these two, so there is no point having that many

So I can actually remove it

This

I can probably sell, a green trenchcoat

And I have two pretty similar pink coats here

But at the same time they are not similar

This is kind of a long blazer

And this is a long trenchcoat

They are both really nice, I think I'll keep them for now since spring is upon us soon

And I have two kimonos

Lindex, and this one is from Thailand. I like both of them a lot

No, sorry, this one is from Bershka

So they'll stay

A lot of the dresses here is perfect for spring and summer

So I haven't worn them that much lately

But they'll definitley get used during spring/summer

And if not, they will be sold

So I can go through them again this summer

I've also just gone through my shoes

Not that much to remove just yet

But next

Is this rack. Where I have jumper dresses here,

And shirts

Let's see

This one

I'm pretty done with, it's a black

Long dress that is shaped like this, it looks so good with jeans

But I have used it enough

This is my favorite dress

During Christmas

I always use it for Christmas parties, so that one is great

Here is also short dresses, btw

I'm also pretty done with this one

A midi dress with these sleeves

Remove

I don't use that much shirts during autumn and winter

But as soon as spring arrives I think a lot of these are super nice

So I'll leave them for a little more

One white shirt, gone

This is the worst part, here we have knits

It's a nightmare

A little from below here, but that's ok

Here we have knits, and a few summer tops actually

Let's see

I think I can take out a few pieces here

This

I'm done with

Some of these are so nice during summer

Then it's knits

I think I'm gonna sell this one now

It's so nice, but I think I've used it twice

And that's too bad

Or.... It's really nice for spring though

Ok, I'll keep it for a little longer

This can go. I really don't need that many knits

I know a lot of these shouldn't be hanging like this

Because they will loose shape a little

But I like to see them, so they'll stay there then..

And then, here we have jeans

All the jeans in this drawer is

Regular jeans, straight leg jeans, printes jeans and so on

Not too long since I cleaned here either, so I think it's good

And in this drawer

We'll find all other pants, flared jeans and

Other materials and so on

Here we might have something we can remove

I think

A lot of new ones a the top

But I think this one can go

And this pink thing

Which is super nice, but I think I'm done with it

This one is actually too big

So I should sell it and buy a new one, maybe I'll do that today

So, we'll put it up for sale

This one as well, not enough used, from MiH Jeans

Flared jeans. Very nice, but it doesn't get used

Next drawer is lounge wear

And outdoor hiking clothes

And the two next is gym clothes

So, that was a quick run trough

I also have three knits under here, but those are really nice so they are staying

I haven't gone through my skirts, so let's do that now

Here we have the shorts skirts

I've also just gone through these, but here I have

Two vinyl skirts that I love

I have leather skirts

One from Zara

I have, this flower printed one from H&M which is so nice

This suede one

This corduroy one

These two suede skirts

There is not that many I want to get rid off

So many nice ones. I have considered this one

From Isabel Marant I think it's time this has to go

Yes, I think so

I've considered that for a long time

About time. There we go

I think the rest will stay for now

And we'll see if that changes during the spring

When it all will get used more, because there is a while since I've used these because of the season

So, as soon as the right season arrives we can see if I use them or not

Now I have a pile behind me here

With a lot of pieces

A few things

Which is going up on my Tise account

So check that one out if you want to buy any of my preloved items

So I really hope you like the video, and that it's not to long.

And I hope you want to do this again with me

Then I'll run trough a little more in depth, as it's not that long ago since I did it

But I got a little more out of there

I hope you liked the video, give me a thumbs up if you did

And I'll see you very soon again, bye!

what I do on Thursdays so it's actually Sunday right now and it's about almost

1:15 and I've actually had the morning to myself today but the light bulb in my

kitchen like blew out so my dad and his coworker and friend is like they're

gonna fix it my mom asked me to like clean some things in the bathroom and

clean some things in her room like relating to what they're gonna have to

do and fix and put things in and all that my mom is very like a perfectionist

I'm sure a lot of people can relate to this but like my mom wants her house to

look like pristine and as perfect as it can before anybody enters whether

they're just coming in the front door or whatever like my mom wants everything to

be perfect a little nervous because right now it's like 115 my dad called me

maybe like 12 58 my dad called me and said that they were on their way well he

said that he was on his way so I don't know if that means that they're coming

together or and whatnot like I didn't have my makeup on like I need to have

I'm still having my PJs and I haven't gotten to any cleaning yet you know

perfect time to vlog when I have like no time I know I just think of this so well

but anyway so I'm going to get ready and then I'm going to clean really sit fast

if you guys know that old show from when I was a little I can't think about the

name is but the ten-second tidy if you guys know that that's what I'm gonna do

get ready for the ten-second tidy ready set go

I probably won't be - my mom standards and she'll still probably say how I

didn't clean things correctly but you know what I'll try all right guys

a small little like weight loss update things so this shirt is from the gap I

got this thing last year and it's a flannel like a boyfriend style flannel

used to never be able to button it up all the way because my chest was too big

and the rest of my body as well and just like all the proportions and stuff I was

never able to button it up all the way and obviously as you guys can see I mean

I have the first one unbuttoned but I can button it and it fits and like it's

not popping out or anything how awesome just thought I would share I

don't know right now I'm just gonna work on editing just kind of chillin and

waiting for my mom to get back home inside out it's on right now so I'm

watching that and I just eat some lunch so actually he had a sushi burrito that

I got from steal energy and it was very good I must say I'm so weird like what

are these lugs he's are so wearing why do you people watch my videos okay guys

so my face is really red right now and I know that when I edit this back I'm not

gonna want to put this in the blog despite my appearance it's actually

twelve fifty right now and I've just had more of a chiller morning I'm gonna have

more of a chiller day still productive but just you know not like not needing

to put on makeup and a fancy outfit and stuff like that I'm not gonna do any

filming today I'm not in the like happiest mood right now um just because

I actually got an email from supposed to be my peer they were my peer mentor from

bu guess she texted me but I don't remember receiving a text message but

she said that she texted me but she wanted to email me since she never got

an answer back and yeah so I had to reply obviously telling her that my

plans have changed she just responded so now just kind of like when is it gonna

end like just constantly reminded like I try to move on and it's just like you're

constantly righted

but anyway I got a new phone case yesterday I got from five below I was

actually going in there to get my dad a new phone case cuz he needed one and I

found this one it's a rose gold so it matches my phone and has this cool

design but then it has glitter I've never really been into those clutter

cases but I just thought this was so cute and my other one was really girl

hey guys what's up it's Tuesday I started that intros if I was making a

video and that this isn't just the continuation over the wall today is

Tuesday and I just finished filming a little

like Valentine's Day makeup look so if my makeup looks like a little more

dramatic than usual and very glittery that's why I just finished filming that

it's 1 o'clock now I'm gonna go make a no sigh ebo and then I'm going to film

another video after that it's snow this morning and I think it's supposed to

know a little bit more this evening but we'll see if it actually happens or not

that's all that's left of it the sun's been out for a couple hours now so it

melted a lot of the snow now guys what a successful productive day I worked out

cleaned a little I filmed not line but two videos and not just like sit down

easy videos either like I mean I didn't make a video so like I have to do my

makeup but and then my current jams video which takes some time to create I

wanted to talk to y'all because when I was in Boston I stopped by this

bookstore it's called the Trident bookstore and cafe on Newberry if you

guys are ever going to Boston or if you guys are around there or whatever

Newberry Street tried a bookstore and cafe it's so cute in there just meet my

heart so happy I actually picked up two books there I spent like $40 on books

which is my I don't buy books anymore because I've no self-control and they're

so expensive I figured I absolutely love it there and I would rather give my

money to a more independent bookstore than like a chain bookstore like Barnes

& Noble settles all the way down which is this one which is what I'm currently

reading I just took the dust jacket off because it's a little annoying when I'm

reading and this is actually a signed copy which is what sold me because I

love John Green he hasn't disappointed me there are books that I love more than

others that he's written but I've never had a total disappointment from John

Green and then I all so got this book which is called you're

welcome universe by Whitney Gardner and this book I got because I've been trying

to get it from my Brera for so long they've tried we don't have it at our

library they have tried contacting other libraries to try and get it and nobody

has this books is a book about a girl that is going to a deaf school and a

slur is written on the wall or on something about her friends so she uses

her art and graffiti to cover it up and she ultimately gets kicked out of the

deaf school and then she is what's called mainstreaming in Deaf culture

which basically means she goes into like our typical public schools as a deaf

girl is just like all about that obviously you guys know me I love ASL my

deaf culture I had to read this book and I figured this is definitely a book that

I have to have also in my collection so

hey guys so it's Thursday while I look so weird cuz I have no jewellery on

today is Thursday and today is not Thursday today is Wednesday I'm just

jumping ahead it's 123 right now I had a productive but chill morning this

morning it seems to be the trend of this week and a film just one video today a

simple sit down video and I don't know just do random things that I have to do

nothing too excited exciting plan it's 225 now I spend way more time than I

wanted to just watching YouTube videos for some reason I am not in the mood to

film this video and I'm just not gonna force it

what are you doing the word is too long to fit in the box it's a little funny

but I did it I pushed the letters together so when they were overlapping

but it looks a lot better when it's off you can't really tell unless you stare

at it guys happy February today's the first day of February today is Thursday

to update you guys today this morning I was supposed to film a

morning routine video no I know every youtuber films theirs differently but

personally I like to keep mine real and authentic and really film at the exact

timer pretty much the exact time I will usually set an alarm for five minutes

before I usually wake up to set up my camera equipment and I completely forgot

this morning and then when I finally remembered this morning I was just

didn't feel like filming it my skin thankfully is clearing up but there's

just like so much going on today is Harry Sal's birthday but it's also my

grandma's birthday and my cousin's birthday my grandma and I made plans to

go see a movie tomorrow night all the sudden I like really really really

really really really really really want french fries like so bad I could taste

them normal hey guys happy Friday it's about 118 right now which helps to

me because I went to go do my hair brush my teeth and stuff like that at 12:45

and I'm done I have my full face of makeup harrods on everything and it's

1218 I've definitely gotten better with doing my makeup faster

finally getting ready for the day I spent the morning cleaning Friday's seem

to be at my cleaning days recently cleaned my whole room and then I cleaned

my living room as well and the kitchen and the dining room and I dusted all of

that stuff and then I'm gonna vacuum I actually kind of I made good timing but

I kind of have to hurry because I'm really hungry I need to eat lunch and

then I need to evacuate all house my room and my parents room Ellen is

on at 3:00 my nail-polish looks like it's black but it's a purple but it

looks it looks like it's blah tonight ish at like 6 o'clock my grandma and I

are going to see the greatest showmen so I'm super excited for that I'm sorry

that this vlog was probably so ridiculously boring I don't know what

was with me this week I was definitely in a little bit of a funk wearing a lot

better mood so that's good it's like freezing outside today and it's super

windy and it's not cute hi guys so my face looks super shiny right now because

I have Jehova oil I think in how you say it and moisturizer on my face they also

have this scab and scar on my chin right now from a cystic pimple so if we could

just ignore that but I got a lot of new products recently that I'm really hoping

hoping fingers crossed that it will help my skin I just wanted to close out this

vlog and kind of like apologize I never flogged I never ended up like vlogging

anymore which I wanted to I had intentions to

sorry for that I'm sorry that this is probably like one of the most boring

vlogs I have ever uploaded and Friday I went to the movies with my grandma we

went to go see the greatest showmen which was super good and then we just

went out to tropical smoothie cafe which I love it there so and it was a fun

little date night with my grandma we do that often I really recommend you guys

doing that with anyone from your family just do like a little date night every

month or so it's really really fun and really nice and Saturday had my

grandma's birthday dinner actually tried tuna for the first time well okay I've

had tuna in sushi I've never had like a tuna dish and so my aunt and I split was

really good so something new what to add two of my list of things that I eat that

on Sunday it was the Super Bowl we had a really chill day of cleaning in the

morning I actually had to edit my video for Sunday right before it went up which

never ever happens I'm always so on top of things and I don't know what happened

I got it done I got it up like an hour later than usual so not too bad although

I did have a more a little bit more of a doing things

weekend it really wasn't lockable stuff or

anything exciting happening or I was just spending time with family and bed

and wrap up this vlog now thank you guys so much for watching and I hope to see

you in my next one bye

I Want It All...And I Want It Now! - Two Minute Message - Duration: 2:35.

- Hey everybody, Daniel Fusco here.

Welcome to today's two minute message.

I don't know about you,

I love that I live in a right-now culture.

We want it all and we want it now

and we're grateful for all the opportunities.

Amazon as a company right now

where you can just go online,

you can find anything you need,

it gets delivered right away.

We have this right-now culture

and we've gotten very accustomed to living that way.

See the problem is though really the most important things

they never happen right now.

If you want to have an amazing, loving marriage

or relationship, that doesn't happen right away.

It's not an instantaneous thing.

If you want to change the world,

see we live in a culture now not only within churches

but even businesses are being socially conscious.

The thing is there's a fatigue to it

because everybody wants it right now

and you can't fix some of these things immediately.

It's gonna take perseverance.

It's gonna take a lot of time.

People like doing it in an instant.

It's like with all these tragedies, nature tragedies,

whether they're earthquakes or fires.

Everyone gets excited to help for five minutes

and then they move on to the next thing.

While communities are still trying to rebuild from things

that have happened even decades ago.

So we need to realize that

the people of God live differently.

Although we love the conveniences of being able

to get certain things right away,

we need to learn the art of being able

to set our nose to the grindstone

and keep going until things change.

If you are a follower of Jesus,

Jesus is inviting you not into a sprint

but into a marathon.

It's a race of faith and it's a whole life race.

We want to get at things for the long term.

Reminds me of William Wilberforce

who was a follower of Jesus.

He was a member of English Parliament.

He spent his entire career making sure

that slavery was eradicated in his country.

Literally, it got eradicated and he passed away,

went home to be with the Lord, not too long after.

What a life well lived.

Spent his whole life grinding on this one thing

that needed to be changed and he was able to change it.

God wants us to take that long view and have a huge impact.

This is what I want you to do first,

I don't just want you to hear a message,

I want you to respond to it.

So we share this message.

'Cause we want all of us to be thinking about

how could we get at things with a long-term vision

and keep grinding.

In the comments section, will you share things

that you're passionate about

that is gonna take awhile to get done.

Things that you want to see get fixed.

Not only what you want to see get fixed,

but how you're actually being proactive

in seeking to help in that area.

Doesn't matter how small it is.

I always think of Teresa of Calcutta who said

that if you want to feed a 100 people,

start with just one.

So we start small and we're faithful in what God gives us

and then God will give us greater things.

God bless you guys.

Business fashion: how a woman's suit should fit + CHECKLIST ǀ Justine Leconte - Duration: 5:51.

Hi everyone! It's Justine. How to know if the piece of clothing that you're trying

on in a store fits as it should? how to know what to pay attention to? it's

especially important if you're trying on a tailored garment because then the

fabric is going to be woven (usually) so it's stiff, it's not going to grow or

become more comfortable over time. you better know before you buy it if it

fits properly, right? this video is the first of a new series on my channel

about fit: I will try on different types of garments, tailored garments, and I will

show you step by step which details you need to pay attention to when you're

shopping: from afar, in full body, so you see the full silhouette, and also closer

up, so that you can see the details better. and let's start with the big

question of all business wardrobes and that is the suit: top and bottom. how to

recognize a good suit that fits you?

the tailored jacket: when you choose a tailor jacket

there are basically three things to pay attention to: the shoulders, the waist and

the side seam area, and then the space that you have to move in that jacket

overall. the shoulder seam should sit right here, just before the shoulder

starts to curve downwards, kind of. if the seam looks like it's more towards your

neck, then the jacket is too small and you need to go one size up, that's a

clear signal. if the shoulder is hanging wider than your actual shoulders are,

then go one size down. and this is true even if you have shoulder pads: the

shoulder seam position is not negotiable ;-) now let's look at the shape of the

jacket around the waist area. I've had this jacket modified tailored to suit me

better. that's why the waist is pretty marked, a bit like an hourglass. this is

not a standard cut. but what's important is where the jacket sits under the

armpits: you shouldn't see a lot of fabric here in the area, it must sit

close enough to you, otherwise the jacket was made for people wider than you in

torso and taking the waist in lower will not solve that fit issue here. one more

thing about jackets when you're trying on a jacket in a store, always make sure

to do the "cross your arms" test: cross your arms. if the back of the jacket is

pulling horizontally, then the jacket is too tight. a fitting jacket should give

you enough space to cross your arms and still feel comfortable...

bonus tip: if the jacket that you're looking at also has a lining, turn it

around and look (inside) at that lining. it should typically be more fabric, inside,

than outside so that you can move inside and move on the lining without pulling

on that outer fabric. you can see that by looking at the hem right here. I can make

the lining move without the other fabric moving. that will be one comfortable

jacket. the tailored trousers: in a suit, the

bottom part is easier to fit. you only need to look at the waistline, the rise

and the hip level. I will explain. if we are looking at woven pants, non stretchy,

the waistband should not be tight. you want it to sit naturally on your hips. if

it sits too low, you will get a so-called muffin top, because the fabric is stiffer

than your belly. so it is your belly that's going to "pop out". if the waistline

is too high, it will cut into your stomach when you

sit and that's not comfortable either. there are more waistband options if

you're talking about casual wear or if you're looking at knitted fabrics. but if

you're talking, like here, about woven, tailored trousers, they really aren't a

hundred ways to fit right: you should really stay within the area of the

natural waist for the pants to be really comfortable. then let's look at the rise

that is the vertical seam in your center, from the crotch to the top of the

waistband. here is the front rise. if you want your belly to be covered, make sure

that the front rise is high enough. and here's the back rise: it also needs to

fit your body so if you have a curvy behind for instance, make sure that the

back rise is high so that no one sees your bum when you sit down. let's come

back to the front: to know if you have the right size, look at the hip level. the

fabric should not be pulling horizontally sideways here. this is your widest point

so that is where you see if the pants fit you right. if you see horizontal

lines, you need to go one size up. if the size is right, the pants fall nicely,

without pulling anywhere. and if the pants have pockets, they are not pulling either.

they should be lying flat against your sides. the length of the pants itself is a

matter of taste, not fit. I like mine to be pretty long so I can wear the pants

with high heels but it's up to you :-) thumbs up if you found this video useful!

thank you so much! now you know a little bit better (I hope) what to pay attention

to when you go shoe shopping. but it also works for any type of blazer tailored

trousers - trousers in general. next episode: we'll look at the tailored shirt

for women, or blouse. it might be the most difficult

garment to fit in an entire wardrobe so it needs a dedicated episode... and if

until then you're interested in fashion and learning more about garments, you can

subscribe to my channel. I do two videos per week: about fashion. I also did

previous videos on fashion quality and handbag quality. if you want to watch

those now I will link them here in the corner as well as in the description

below this video. I will see you soon again and until then: happy shopping!

happy fitting! :-) take care, bye bye!

Under Wonder - Duration: 4:01.

I've always gone through phases. So...

I've had a few of my family members say to me, 'OK, so when is this phase going to end?'

'There was your running phase, and your yoga phase, and your kayaking phase.'

This one I feel like it might, it's going to, stick.

There's something so immersive about the ocean, not just physically but mentally as well.

It just takes you somewhere else.

I grew up on a farm far away from the sea.

And I've always been so envious of those people who are so comfortable with the sea.

And for me it's a process.

I'm just a human trying to really find my way around water, and be in it and really appreciate it.

It's all quite symbolic in some way. Because like the ocean can be really really hardcore and cruel,

and then other days it can just be like a dam and so beautiful.

I think what it's teaching me is that happiness is actually about just taking what you can,

in the moment, right now.

It feels like land has become so cluttered with so much stuff,

like cellphones and cars and appointments and demands.

And then when you're in the water it's like, bye bye, I'm gone.

And it really is one of the few places, I believe, that we can really get away from everything.

You can either choose to get caught up in all of that, or you can just float a little bit.

For me, there is something about being in the water that slows everything down.

The way that the light moves in the water...

it's magical. It's truly magical.

When you're floating over a whole bed of anemones, and coral,

it's like floating in this massive big murano glass paperweight.

And then suddenly you realise that there's this entire world that you have never experienced before.

I've never felt more happy and at home than I do now,

when I'm just floating. Not doing anything fancy, just floating... and looking.

It's not just under water. It's under wonder.

Under wonder. Under wonder. It's just... because it is completely wonderous.

When I'm 950 thousand years old, I'm probably going to be one of those nice portly ladies,

who wear those kind of floral caps and will probably swim every day.

I'll just be like the happiest little seal in the world.
