We all know that the king of the kitchen loves to shake his fist and crack his whip at amateur
chefs, but just like we've seen in our past video, Gordon Ramsay has had a few moments
where he actually liked the food.
We've done some additional research and found out Gordon Ramsay that there are more
rare instances where he enjoyed the food from other people.
The cocky chef who amazed Gordon
After lending a hand to the Italian restaurant La Lanterna, Gordon came back to find Alex,
the restaurant's owner and the head chef, as full of himself as he can be.
That wasn't without reason though.
We all know how high maintenance Gordon is, and if he was that satisfied with Alex's food,
then that cockiness must be deserved to some degree.
Alex makes classic authentic Italian food.
Just as it should be.
Gordon was treated with a nice plate of meatballs and pasta at the beginning of his visit, and
we don't get to say this often, but Gordon had no negative comments.
He was definitely pleased.
Then the veal came.
Gordon was munching down that plate like it was his last.
The sauce, the delicate meat, everything about that plate looked staggeringly delicious.
Gordon definitely did the job right with La Lanterna.
It was one of those times where Gordon came back to a kitchen that he once stood in to
help enhance it.
He's visibly proud of how well it is doing.
Alex surely got it right, and made the most out of Gordon's help.
Now with the restaurant's debts all resolved, Alex can focus on pleasing the world's taste
buds with a cocky smirk on his face.
Eels jellied just like Gordon loves them
You may not know this about Gordon, but he absolutely loves eels.
Actually, he's not just an eel fan - he's more like an eel crusader.
He doesn't want to simply enjoy eels.
Gordon wants to make the world enjoy it.
He thinks it's a part of British heritage that needs to be revived.
People say eels are slimy, many think they are disgusting, but Gordon absolutely thinks
otherwise.
To prove them wrong, he went down to River Thames and met with the only remaining traditional
jellied eel fisherman, and together they captured some eels.
Then Gordon got them cut up and ready for cooking.
These jellied eels are made with a simple recipe.
They're boiled in water with some gelatine and salt, and you have your jellied eels.
We know it might sound a bit gross for most of you who never tried them, but Gordon looked
like he really enjoyed his jellied eels.
As we know, that man is pretty tough to please so hats off to those eels.
Honestly, they do look a bit too slimy, especially in that big container they're put in.
They're probably worth the try though since they are obviously pretty enjoyable.
Keep jellied eels on your bucket list of food that you might want to try one day.
Tripe with a modern recipe
Gordon is a traditional British guy, so he appreciates some kinds of food that might
not be that popular among young people.
Tripe is one of these things that Gordon shares a liking of exclusively with 60 plus folks.
With a craving for tripe, he visited a butcher to see who was asking for tripe, and he found
old people who ate it raw, he met a man who ate tripe as a snack, but there wasn't a single
person under the age of 40.
Gordon wanted to get younger people enjoying the awesomeness of tripe, so he summoned his
favorite chef in the whole world: Gordon himself.
He set up Gordon's Gut Hut and got to work.
Some flour, cayenne pepper, lemon zest and the tripe was ready for the frying pan.
As soon as Gordon started frying the tripe, people young and old gathered around the smell.
With his astounding recipe, Gordon got 18 year olds, 30 year olds, and young kids all
waiting for the tripe.
Honestly, how he made it is completely new to us, and made that way, tripe suddenly starts
looking a bit tempting.
Gordon won that challenge.
He got the youngsters loving tripe.
The Ultimate Argentine Rib Eye
What is one thing that Gordon is pretty stern about?
You probably guessed it correctly.
It's steak.
Gordon is a true steak connoisseur.
He's an expert on taste and he preps them perfectly.
So, to gain Gordon's approval on a steak is not that easy.
You'll hit into quite high standards.
Ernesto, the chef of Santa Maria del Sur, an Argentine restaurant in London, was up
to the challenge.
First of all, a steak can't be done right unless done with the right piece of meat.
At Santa Maria del Sur, the meat is well picked, red, fresh and thick.
It actually looks pretty tempting while it's raw.
The restaurant's manager said that the reason for its high quality is that the cows are
grass fed.
Everybody at the restaurant seemed to be absolutely stunned by the food, and it was Gordon's turn.
The rib eye steak came just like Gordon Ramsay is known to love it: thick and medium rare.
Gordon really seemed to enjoy that treat, and to match Gordon's standards, that steak
must have been top notch.
After getting that much pleasure from his steak, Gordon chose Santa Maria del Sur to
compete on The F Word as the best local South American restaurant.
Trifle with Vinegar
Some things don't sound quite right when you hear their ingredients, but when you give
them a try, you realize that the risk was worth it.
That is exactly what happened with Stacey, one of the contestants on MasterChef.
Stacey was making trifle, but instead of doing it the conventional way, she decided to spice
it up a bit.
Almost literally.
Stacey added to the trifle a layer of lemon curd and mascarpone, and… wait for it…
balsamic vinegar!
That's right.
Stacey put vinegar on the trifle, and it shocked Gordon at first just like it probably shocked
you.
Incredibly, everyone on the show who tasted this trifle was utterly flabbergasted by its
perfect taste.
Not only Gordon, too.
Graham Elliot was pretty impressed too.
It looks pretty smooth, delicate and creamy.
What else do you need to have a perfect trifle?
The vinegar thing might have blown up in Stacey's face, but she stepped up and took the risk
of getting a Gordon Ramsay roast on air.
That's a pretty big risk, you know.
When he admitted to liking it, though, Gordon respected her willingness to take the risk
and awarded her by choosing her as the winning contestant.
The Rajasthan Goat
A guaranteed way to get Gordon satisfied with the food is to give him a whole experience
with it.
Well, that's not just Gordon, of course, but as both a chef and an adventurer, the thrill
of the experience definitely has a special effect of boosting the food's chances of pleasing
him.
And can be better than a desert grill right in the middle of the desert in India?
Along with his companion, Bozzo, Gordon put together an amazing Rajasthan Goat Curry meal
with all the magnificent Indian spices wrapped with a layer of bread which they then slow-cooked
in a desert grill that they set up inside a hole in the sand.
They made it just as authentic as it gets.
After they were done they unwrapped their meal, it certainly did look mouthwatering.
When they gathered around with company to enjoy the goat, there were only the sounds
of the sizzling fire and Gordon's enjoyment.
He complimented how the goat was made moist enough to be all nice and soft when cooked,
but that the bread wrap was able to absorb that moisture well so that it didn't ruin
it.
They were all very delighted with the taste of the spices, but that's a bit obvious.
This was in India after all.
Indian Food at its Origin
Gordon's same trip to India included plenty of awesome foodie experiences.
While he was in Delhi, he got to meet up with one of the country's renowned food critics
at a restaurant called Moti Mahal, and if you have never heard the name, that's one
of the most famous restaurants in India.
Gordon wanted to see if the Indian cuisine that he knew about back in London are anything
like their origin.
He was surprised to know that they were nothing similar to the real deal.
The butter chicken and the Tandoori chicken both tasted a whole lot different, and obviously
way better.
It's a given, of course, that food in India is a big part of their culture.
Most of those who try it out over there are absolutely amazed by the multitude of flavours
to enjoy, so taking Gordon Ramsay's word on it seals the deal.
Generally speaking, whenever you hear a British person say the words "bloody hell" they're
either really astounded by something.
With how the food looks on the screen, and with Gordon's focused look that we only see
when he's trying out something that he likes, we can make sure that Gordon was pretty pleased
by that food.
That was another hole in one for India.
The Queen of Sausages
On one of his journeys in East Asia, particularly in Thailand, Gordon was taken to a small shack
where an old Thai lady sold sausages - really spicy sausages.
Gordon loves trying the real traditional food in every country he goes, and so the moment
he knew about the best place to eat classic Thai sausages, he navigated his way there
without a second thought.
When he tried out one of the sausages, the heat hit him right in the head.
"Hot as a furnace" was particularly how Gordon described them.
Gordon also called the lady "the queen of sausages."
That's a pretty grand statement from Gordon if you know anything about the guy.
He actually enjoyed them so much that he sat and made some sausages with the sausage queen
herself.
With the amount of Thai chilis they used in making the sausages, we can understand why
Gordon was struck by their spiciness.
There were hundreds of them.
These sausages are nothing like the sausages eaten in the UK or the US for that matter.
After the spicy paste was made out of all the peppers, garlic, and a mix of Thai herbs,
they were mixed with the minced pork and then stuffed into what you might call intestinal
pockets.
Yes, they were actual intestines.
The recipe does sound a bit strange, but we have to say, these sausages did look pretty
darn delicious.
Thai Fish and Oysters
In another one of his Great Escape adventures, again in Thailand, Gordon visited a small
village where he heard the oysters were made to perfection.
It was an old lady chef that he met there, and as usual, when Gordon finds a type of
food that sounds delicious, he tries to make it himself.
So, Gordon proceeded to make a meal of fish and oysters with the Thai chef.
He began to get the hang of the hot and sour essence of traditional Thai food.
The ingredients were a bit odd for a foreigner, but they obviously added up to one killer
meal.
Inside a big pot of boiling water they dropped in the fresh fish then they added some fish
sauce, sugar and palm vinegar.
After that they prepared the oyster dipping.
It was basically garlic, fish sauce, salt, sugar and LOTS of chili.
Funny thing is, the Thai chef thought the dipping needed some more, but Gordon was already
having a hard time handling that level of heat.
It seems like Thai people can handle a shit load of heat when it comes to spicy food.
But all in all, the oysters and fish meal got Gordon absolutely delighted.
The Young Steak Master
Season 3 of MasterChef Junior which ran in 2015 featured a group whose oldest child was
12 years old, but we're talking about the show's youngest contestant here - Riley Hahn,
the 8 year old MasterChef contestant from Carrollton, Texas, who surprised his fellow
youngsters and his adult judges alike.
While people in their 40s stand low in front of Gordon's insults to their subpar performance
in the kitchen, this 8 year old boy got Gordon stunned speechless by his astounding skills.
In this round, he made steak, and we all know Gordon's obsession with steak and how scrupulous
he gets about every detail of how a piece of steak is made.
That kid was standing up to monstrous standards, but he was able to stand tough and conquer.
His dish of smeared steak with beef ramen made Gordon stand there astonished by this
young man presenting him with an apparently flawless steak.
Only flawlessness can get these reactions out of Chef Ramsay it seems.
With an authentic Texan touch, Riley gained Gordon's approval, and maybe for the first
time that we know of, Gordon let the young chef taste his food, not as a punishment for
its substandard taste and texture, but to let him get a mouthful of his own masterpiece.
