15 Most Amazing BUILDINGS, TOWERS and SKYCRAPERS in the World - Duration: 13:48.

Are you tired of boring buildings that all look the same? Then get ready to feast your

eyes on some of the most incredible modern architectural feats!

You're watching Insane Curiosity and today we present you 20 of the most amazing buildings,

towers, and skyscrapers in the world. But before we begin, make sure you hit that

subscribe button! 15. Air Force Academy Chapel (Colorado, United

States) Now this is not your ordinary church! Built

in mid-century modern style, the US Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel features seventeen aluminum,

glass, and steel spires, each composed of 100 tetrahedrons. The Cadet Chapel houses

four worship areas: Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and Buddhist chapel, as well as an

outside worship area for followers of Wicca, Paganism and Druidism.

The US Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel, designed by legendary architect Walter Netsch, is not

only an iconic example of modern architecture but also an official US National Historic

Landmark and the most visited man-made tourist attraction in Colorado.

14. The Gherkin Building (London, UK) You might recognize our next building from

popular films such as Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, A Good Year, Basic Instinct

2, and Match Point. 30 St Mary Axe, popularly known as the Gherkin Building, is one of the

most recognizable London landmarks. Located in the UK capital's financial district,

this eco-friendly commercial skyscraper was designed by Norman Foster, British architect

known for his sleek, futuristic office buildings. The exterior of the Gherkin is covered with

7,429 panes of glass, and at 180 meters tall, this skyscraper is three times taller than

Niagara Falls! 13. Ryugyong Hotel (Pyongyang, North Korea)

North Korea is usually in the news for all the wrong reasons, but not many people are

aware that this country has some of the most impressive architecture in the world. One

such example is the Ryugyong Hotel in the nation's capital Pyongyang.

Though still under construction, this incredible pyramid-shaped building is 330 meters tall,

has 105 stories, 7,665 guest rooms, and 5 revolving restaurants. Construction of the

Ryugyong Hotel began in 1987 and according to the latest reports it will soon be ready

for business. What do you think: is the Ryugyong worth a trip to North Korea?

12. Fuji Television Network (Tokyo, Japan) Tokyo has no shortage of awe-inspiring architecture

– from soaring skyscrapers to historic temples. One particularly impressive example is the

headquarters of the Fuji Television Network located on Odaiba - a massive man-made island

in Tokyo Bay. This unique-looking structure is 123.45 meters

high and has a total floor space of 142,800 square meters. The building is best known

for the huge spherical observation platform which offers one of the most spectacular views

of Tokyo skyline. 11. The National Library (Minsk, Belarus)

Looking at this enormous futuristic structure, you'd think it was a UFO from outer space

and not a library. The National Library of Belarus, located in the country's capital

of Minsk, is built in the shape of a rhombicuboctahedron – a geometric shape with eight triangular

and eighteen square faces. The outside surface is covered with LED glass

panels that shine 24 hours a day, giving the building an appearance of a giant diamond

in the middle of the city. The library has 22 floors and enough seats for more than 2,000

readers. It's also the only building in Minsk with a public observation deck.

10. Cubic Houses (Rotterdam, Netherlands) These curious cubic houses in Rotterdam are

a true testament to the ingeniousness and creativity of their creator, late Dutch architect

Piet Blom. These funny-looking structures are based on Blom's concept of "living as

an urban roof", created with the purpose of optimizing the space in the most efficient

way. The houses are tilted at a 45 degree angle

and rest upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. Each individual house is supposed to represent

a tree, which makes this neighborhood of cubic houses look like a huge yellow forest.

9. WonderWorks (United States) WonderWorks is a science-themed entertainment

center with locations in Orlando, Florida Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Panama City Beach,

Florida, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Syracuse, New York. Each of the five buildings

is designed to look like a regular building that was picked up and hurled around by a

tornado and then dropped on the ground upside down.

The wacky designed of the WonderWorks buildings matches the interactive exhibits that take

place in them, including hurricane and earthquake rides, virtual sports, rock climbing, astronaut

training challenge, and plenty more.

8. Habitat 67 (Montreal, Canada) Originally conceived as the master's thesis

of Israeli-Canadian architect Moshe Safdie, Habitat 67 is a housing complex in Montreal,

Canada, known for its spectacular design. The Habitat is composed of 354 identical concrete

forms arranged in various combinations that together make up 146 residences of different

shapes and sizes. Each unit has a private terrace, which provides a constant flow of

fresh air and a plenty of natural light. 7. The Dalí Theatre and Museum (Figueres,

Spain) Renowned Spanish artist Salvador Dali was

known for his bizarre surrealist paintings, so it only makes sense that his museum in

Fugueres has an equally unique look. Dali once said that he wanted his museum to be

"a single block, a labyrinth, and a great surrealist object that would leave visitors

with the sensation of having had a theatrical dream".

This is exactly the impression you get when you visit the Dalí Theatre and Museum – a

huge complex that includes a stone tower, a glass geodesic dome, giant egg sculptures

on the roof, and plenty other surrealist architectural details.

6. Kansas City Public Library (Missouri, United States)

Now this is a building that looks like a bookworm's dream come true. The Kansas City Public Library

is made to look like a giant bookshelf, which makes it one of the most striking landmarks

of Kansas City's downtown. The bookshelf runs along the south wall of

the library and each of the books is 25 feet tall and 9 feet wide. The shelf consists of

22 classic literary titles, ranging from Plato's "The Republic" and Lao Tzu's "Tao Te

Ching" to Mark Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and J. R. R. Tolkien's

"The Lord of the Rings. 5. The Shard (London, UK)

At 309.7 meters and 95 stories, the London's Shard is the tallest building in the United

Kingdom, the tallest building in the European Union, and the fourth-tallest building in

Europe. This astonishing skyscraper was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, one of the

most groundbreaking architects of the 20th and 21st century.

This towering pyramid-shaped building is entirely covered in glass and has a viewing gallery

and an open-air observation deck on the 72nd floor, which offers a spectacular panoramic

view of the city. 4. Nakagin Capsule Tower (Tokyo, Japan)

When it comes to out-of-this-world architecture, no one does it quite like the Japanese. Completed

in just 30 days, this mixed-use residential and office tower is a unique example of Japanese

Metabolism, a post-war architectural movement that combined the idea of architectural megastructures

with the biological concept of organic growth. The building is composed of two interconnected

concrete towers, each containing 140 capsules which function as small living or office spaces.

The individual capsules can be connected to form larger areas or removed without affecting

the others, mimicking the way living organisms can grow and adapt to their environment.

3. F&F Tower (Panama City, Panama) Just one look at the F&F Tower in Panama City,

Panama is enough to understand why this amazing structure was recently ranked among the top

10 best skyscrapers in the world. This twisted 243 meters tall tower has a façade covered

in mirror tiles and an angle of rotation that reaches 360 degrees. Each of the floors rotates

nine degrees from the floor below, creating four small balconies for every floor.

The initial concept for the tower started as just a theoretical idea based on rotating

geometry, but thanks to a group of talented local architects it became a reality in 2011

after two years of construction. The architects were allocated a strictly limited budget and

couldn't afford to make any mistakes, which makes the realization of this project that

much more spectacular. 2. Dancing House (Prague, Czech Republic)

The Dancing House, located in the Czech capital of Prague, is truly one of the most impressive

modern architectural accomplishments in the world. Designed by the Croatian-Czech architect

Vlado Milunic and his Canadian-American colleague Frank Gehry, this iconic Prague landmark was

originally named the house Fred and Ginger after the legendary dancing duo Fred Astaire

and Ginger Rogers. The house is built in the deconstructivist

architectural style, characterized by an absence of harmony, continuity, or symmetry. The unusual

shape of the Dancing House is supported by 99 concrete panels, each of different shape

and dimension. The house has two main parts that resemble a pair of dancers caught in

the middle of a routine. The first part is a glass tower that narrows in the middle,

while the second has rows of misaligned windows and moldings arranged in a wavy patter. In

addition to the impressive design, the Dancing House also has a great symbolic value since

it is located in an area of Prague that was completely destroyed by the U.S. bombing of

1945. 1. Burj Khalifa (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)

No list of impressive buildings is complete without the tallest and most spectacular skyscraper

in the world – Dubai's Burj Khaifa. With a dizzying height of 829.8 meters, the Burj

Khalifa has held the top spot as the tallest structure in the world for the entire past

decade. Designed by renowned American architect Adrian

Smith, Burj Khalifa combines the shapes and patterns of Islamic architecture with the

sleek look of modern architecture. The tower has a flat desert base that rises in a spiraling

pattern toward the sky, reminiscent of the Great Mosque of Samarra in Iraq.

The cladding system is composed of over 26,000 reflective glass panels that serve as a shield

against the blazing desert sun, extreme temperatures, and strong winds. The interior is decorated

with more than 1,000 pieces of art, and has 57 elevators and 2,909 stairs going from the

ground floor to the 160th floor. Other features include the largest choreographed fountain

system in the world and the world's second-highest outdoor observation deck where visitors can

enjoy temperatures that are almost 15 degrees cooler than at the building's base.

building would you most like to visit and why. Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe.

Wanna hear me speaking English? - Duration: 8:03.

Hey guys!

How are you?

Super informal video today.

All in English.

I actually recently posted a video on YouTube in English, and a lot of you were telling

me, "Hey, Gavin, you should do more videos like this, all in English, you know?"

And so, yeah!

That's a totally good idea.

We definitely should have a balance of these video explanations in Portuguese and real-life

English.

But I wanted to let you know of three resources that I already have through the channel where

you can hear me speaking English with my friends, or with my family, or just having vlogs of

myself.

These things already exist.

The first one is my playlist Só Inglês.

These are ten or twelve videos where I've only spoken in English with friends, or in

my daily life.

A lot of them are older videos.

One of the videos is with Carina Fragozo.

Check it out.

So I'll put the link to this playlist in the description of this video.

The second resource is another series of videos that I've made on SmallAdvantages.

These videos are called SmallTalk.

These are totally some of my most favorite videos that I've ever created on the channel.

I had interviews of eight to twelve minutes with friends, where I'd record them at work,

or fishing in a river, or I recorded my parents in front of their house.

The interview was in English, but every once in a while I paused the video to explain something

that they said in Portuguese.

So I'll leave the link to that playlist in the description of this video, and know that

I'm working on a new series of SmallTalk, ten more SmallTalks, coming up on the channel

soon.

So check those out.

And the third resource: I actually already make vlogs in English every week.

I just take my phone and I show what I'm doing in my daily life, and I post it on YouTube.

So we just finished the whole driveway here.

And I wanna take you into the woods of the house where I grew up at, here in Ohio.

But, it's not on my SmallAdvantages channel.

It's through my Patreon website and through my Patreon community.

So the sponsors - these are, these are people who contribute one dollar, four dollars, or

seven dollars to SmallAdvantages, and in return they get to see, for example, my weekly vlog

all in English.

It's crazy!

In January you get days that are 70 degrees.

It's almost 70 right now.

It's hot!

It's hot, almost.

But you also get really cold, snowy days, and they happen back to back to back.

That's why I love Colorado.

It makes life interesting, right?

We're creating flashcards in our community all in English, and everyone who's a patron

gets access to these to practice English.

All of my patrons get access to our chat room, our WhatsApp group, only it's not WhatsApp;

it's an application called Telegram, which is bigger, more secure, I think it works better....

Anyway, we really are a family on Patreon.

A family of smallistas.

And you can see that if you contribute to the channel, not only will you receive benefits

like watching my vlogs in English, but you'll also help SmallAdvantages continue to exist

and continue to be better in the future.

Because all the money that I receive from my smallistas, from my patrons, I try to reinvest

back in the channel.

So I've had Patreon for maybe a year or so, and it's because of the people who've sponsored

my channel that I'm able to.. well, first of all I was able to quit my job and concentrate

on SmallAdvantages full-time!

And their support continues to allow me to do that.

Their support has also given me the ability to build my own studio.

Many of you have seen this.

It allowed me to buy new equipment, making video-recording easier.

It allowed me to buy.. guys, my cell phone used to be awful.

It used to be terrible!

And they..

I just got a new phone so that I can make these vlogs better and post them for everyone

to see.

Informal English.

Fun English.

Just, everyday English.

How are ya?

And we are standing outside because there's not enough room inside.

This is Gavin.

Oh, hey!

Sorry.

Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you!

And, I have several goals for 2018 that I'm hoping for support with, and I will continue

to give these benefits back.

So I'm hoping to publish my own book and distribute it in Brazil.

My very first book.

I have so many ideas, and I can't wait.

I've actually started writing a little bit.

But I need your support.

I'm hoping to return to Brazil in 2018, not only to make more cultural exchange videos,

but also to get more ideas for English videos, to see what Brazilians have trouble with.

And it's with the sponsors of the channel that, this last time in Brazil, I was always

eating breakfast, eating lunch.

It was the smallista family on Patreon who helped me and volunteered during my talks

that I gave in each city.

And when I return to Brazil again in 2018, I will be able to meet with you as well.

And another fun thing is, my patrons, my "padrinhos" and "madrinhas" we say in Portuguese.

But my, the sponsors of SmallAdvantages get to vote on so many things.

They're gonna get to vote on which state I return to in Brazil.

Could be Rio Grande do Sul.

It could be Goiás.

It could be Amapá, or Acre.

You guys get to decide.

It was my patrons who voted on and decided my new banner for SmallAdvantages, this little

tagline there: "inglês americano com alma brasileira."

And so, I interact with everyone a lot in our Telegram group, and I've, I have a lot

of posts.

Like I said, I'm making these weekly vlogs.

GavinWeekly is the name of those vlogs.

So I invite you to click on the link in the description, go to Patreon.com/smalladvantages,

and become part of the smallista family.

We really, really are a family, and you'll see that if you join.

We are.. everyone is such good friends, interacts and helps each other with English; we're creating

these flashcards all together; it's amazing to see what this community of support has

become.

Supporting me, and supporting each other in our smallista community.

And so guys, that's it.

I hope you enjoyed this video in English.

Please check out those playlists too, and the last thing I wanted to say is that in

my course, inglesturbo.com, I have a lot of videos like this as well.

In fact, all of them are in English, and just sitting down with me, and me helping you work

through some intermediate-to-advanced-level English things.

So please check out my course; I'll check that.. put that in the description below.

But in the meantime, Patreon is an awesome option, and I really, really hope to see you

there.

Thank you, thank you guys for everything.

Thank you to my current sponsors for all the support.

You mean the world to me.

Peace!

fortunately it doesn't taste like fish!

(Hello everybody! today we eat Taiyaki! come and discover with me what it is, in this video!)

we need to eat it now, when it's warm!

long time ago in Japan you opened the fish in the middle

and then you left them dry

and since Tay is a type of fish,

(the Taiyaki is this fish right? it's on Wikipedia)

so, ok it's another stupid thing that it's written on wikipedia

oh, how lucky! this person is the owner of this shop

this shop is located in Asagaya and it's called --

this one is the tay fish and in italian it's called...

so they took like this fish, that brings luck here in Japan

if you come to Asagaya, don't forget to try Taiyaki!

here it's not so expensive

and like for 15€, you can like buy 10 of these Taiyaki

they are so good, I recommend them to you!

this Sir, also recommends them!

well I go on eating this Taiyaki from the Tomoe An shop

he just explained me that the Tomoe fish brings luck here in Japan

because only rich people could eat it

and afford this fish.

So, this form of Taiyaki remained

every child likes it! also me!

there are some sweet beans inside and they're very good,

sometimes I saw them also with chocolate, but the original one is made with Anko, and it's really good!

and the owner of this shop was really kind

they cost like 1,20€, they're not expensive,

this is a japanese specialty so I recommend you to try it, it's so good!

Why do taxpayers pay billions for football stadiums? - Duration: 4:11.

Every year, over a hundred million people

gather around their televisions

surrounded by loved ones, to watch the Big Game.

And the pinnacle event of the

most profitable sports league in the world

is more often than not played in a new state-of-the-art stadium

with super-sized digital displays

retractable roofs

luxurious box seats and suites.

Teams generally earn the lion's share of the revenue from the stadium.

But for 28 of the 32 teams

it's the taxpayers in the team's host city who paid to build it.

If the privately owned teams earn the stadium's revenue

why are they built with public money?

A new NFL stadium is being built nearly every year

and their price tags are reaching into the billions.

This chart shows all the different home fields

NFL teams have played in since 1960.

Stadiums built in the '70s and '80s

have lasted, on average, over 30 years.

But now a stadium's lifespan may be less than two decades

Washington's owner started asking for a new stadium

back when FedEx Field was only 17 years old.

Though some stadiums, like the Giants/Jets

MetLife Stadium are built with 100% private financing

public tax dollars have financed the vast majority

of NFL stadiums built in the last 20 years.

That's over 7 billion in public money going towards

building and renovating NFL stadiums.

NFL owners argue that a new stadium

will generate new construction jobs while the venue is being built

all the new spending from ticket sales, hotels, parking, tourism

would cascade into the community, the wider area

and would create a boom in the local economy

I asked an urban planning economist if stadiums really are a good public investment

Most of the stadiums we have built in United States,

they do not provide any positive impact - most of them.

What else you could have done with this money?

Let's say they are raising 200 million dollar and there is investing in a stadium

Instead of doing that, if they spend that money on roads

infrastructure, shopping malls, or public parks.

Things that benefit the whole public not just football fans.

For team owners, new stadiums mean millions more in profits.

They sell the name of the stadium to other corporations

host the Super Bowl

and owners maximize revenue by building more and more luxury suites

and club seating in the place of general admission seats.

Over a third of the seats are premium in the Cowboys' 82,000 seat stadium

and a luxury suite can cost as much as $30,000 per game.

The push for new stadiums comes down to increasing

profits for the owners, but cities try to meet these demands because there's more

to a football franchise than the bottom line.

Residents want teams and the

hometown pride that comes with it.

Even for people who never attended a game

there's a shared experience, a collective enthusiasm for the home team.

In one poll three-quarters of Indiananpolis citizens

said losing the city's NFL team would hurt the city

compared to 68% who said it would

hurt to lose all the cities museums.

This is coming from a city and state that funded 86% of their new stadium

even though the previous stadium still owes millions in debt.

Team owners, they have successfully tied this stadium

to a civic pride. And that's why the culture of

spending public money on these stadiums is thriving.

When cities refuse to build new stadiums

owners threaten to move their teams to somewhere that will.

That's what happened in 2016 to St. Louis

and 2017 to San Diego and Oakland.

New stadiums aren't the economic powerhouses owners promise they'll be.

But as long as there are more cities that want a home team than there are franchises

it looks like the taxpayers are gonna keep footing the bill.

Athletes Who Look Totally Different Today - Duration: 3:57.

Our favorite athletes are kind of like superheroes come to life.

With all their home runs and slam dunks, it becomes all too easy to forget that they're

just people.

And like most people, they tend to change over the years--sometimes so much that you

can barely recognize them.

Playing in the NFL can take a toll on your

body.

It's not just the brain-rattling hits, either.

If you want to be a lineman in the league, you need to bulk up and stay that way.

Matt Birk knows that better than anyone.

"First of all I was I was 310 - 320 pounds, I'm really not built to carry that kind of

weight."

At his peak weight, he developed varicose veins and a habit of eating two burrito bowls

for dinner.

Suffice it to say, it wasn't sustainable, and he knew it.

After winning the Super Bowl in his fifteenth season, at the age of 37, Birk decided to

walk away and right the ship.

In the years that followed, he lost 75 pounds and 10 inches from his waist.

The father of six even began a new career as a model, competing in the Vi Model competition

back in 2014 to showcase his new physique.

There have been a lot of ups and downs over

Chris "Birdman" Andersen's 18-year career.

A fresh-faced kid with a knack for pulling down rebounds, he soon found a place in the

league.

Unfortunately, he also soon found trouble with allegations of drug use.

He would come back from all the controversy, winning a championship with the Miami Heat

in 2013.

Still, the hard living clearly had an effect on him.

Now more famous for his legendary ink than he is for his skills on the court, Birdman

has one last transformation to conquer: retirement.

This six-time All-Pro, who won a Super Bowl

with the Steelers, decided to make a big change after retiring from the NFL.

Alan Faneca started by watching what he ate, lowering his calorie intake and doing cardio

six days a week.

He told Fox Sports what he really missed, though:

"Those chocolate, peanut butter protein shakes with big scoops of peanut butter.

They were about 1,000 calories each, and I used to eat three a day.

I definitely miss those."

Clocking in at 500 pounds, football player

Antone Davis knew he needed to make a change.

That's what led him to compete on NBC's The Biggest Loser in the hopes of turning his

life around.

He ended up losing 200 pounds, or more than 45% of his body mass, in the grueling competition,

and transformed his life in the process.

He went on to work with the Tennessee football program as head of their Vol For Life program,

helping young players learn about life outside of football, and avoid the mistakes he made

along the way.

So yeah, maybe it's a good thing he put that burrito down.

"Burrito's the best thing that ever happened to me, so just leave us alone."

Baseball's Barry Bonds was one of the best

players of his generation.

Some might argue he was the best player of all time.

And then he went and messed it all up.

The lanky superstar allegedly started his own performance enhancing habit and turned

into a muscle-bound monster.

He broke the records and he took back the spotlight, then went to court for it.

His transformation continued after he retired when he shrunk back down to his normal, lean

self.

Wrestler Rulon Gardner has had a tough go

of it since defeating Russian Alexander Karelin for gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

It's still considered one of the greatest upsets in Olympics history, making the Utah

wrestler an instant star.

Sadly, he struggled with his health in the years after that, ballooning up to an incredible

400 pounds.

At age 40, he went on NBC's The Biggest Loser in the hope of losing half his body weight

and qualifying for the Olympic team.

He failed to make weight, dropping to 280 before putting a hundred pounds back on.

There are stories of players falling apart

after retiring, and there are stories of players being reborn, but Sammy Sosa took it to a

whole new level.

For his part, Sosa claims that his skin bleaching is a side effect of a facial cream that he

uses.

The former athlete told Univision Spanish, "It's a cream that I have, that I use to soften

[my skin], but has bleached me some.

I'm not a racist, I live my life happily."

So that settles that.

"Sammy Sosa, you know I love you man.

Stop it, Sammy Sosa!

STOP IT SAMMY SOSA!"

Early Birds vs Night Owls (Who's More Intelligent?) - Duration: 3:08.

Early Birds vs. Night Owls (Who's More Intelligent?)

It is a very old debate, and still becomes the argument in a group chat if someone is

noticed to stay up late.

As a matter of fact, most of us are neither pure lark nor owl.

But we all know people who can spring out of bed at the crack of dawn or stay alert

well into the wee hours.

In recent years, science has increasingly shown why these extremes exist.

It's 6:30 a.m.

For "early birds" or "larks," are prime time, means they got the most of their energy on

that moment.

For "night owls," however, such an hour is ungodly.

As you may have guessed, night owls are actually smarter than early birds.

Many blogs, researchers and many sources indicate that night owls are more intelligent.

However, it is worth noting that there are some other things that make this discussion

worthwhile.

Let's just here the explanation in this short video, but before we jump to the lists, If

you're new to our channel, make sure to click the subscribe button below, and don't forget

to like this video if you find this information is helpful to you.

1.

Night owls are less organized

They actually cannot wake up early in the morning, and it is quite problematic for worker,

students, or anyone should wake up early.

Their life will be messed up if night owls keep continuing their habit.

However, night owls tend to have more activity in the night time which enables them to improve

themselves while others are daydreaming.

Despite of the messy organization, night owls still have the edge as long as they remain

productive in the night time.

2.

Night owls have more stamina

They are basically trained to live in both worlds more intensely than others.

Night owls actually need to go socializing in the day time – possibly after 9 – for

work or other purposes.

After that, they will take a short or even zero time nap before they remain alive in

the middle of the night.

With this capability, it is no wonder that night owls are trained to have burst of energy

to keep their pace.

3.

Night owls are emotionally unstable

It is worth noting that early birds may not be as lucky as the night owls under the same

condition considering the more intelligent creature is the night owls.

However, night owls are actually more emotionally unusable because of eating disorder, addiction,

and depression.

Those can happen to night owls if they are not smart enough to take an advantage of being

more careful person.

All in all, that's the short explanation between early birds and night owls.

Really cool information isn't it?
