Youtube daily report w Feb 5 2018

Hey guys, it's Annika. Welcome to my channika.

Today, I'm going to be doing a "First Impressions."

Most of these are first impressions.

Some of them aren't. But I'm doing my best here, okay?

I need to film a video, but I'm just so uninspired.

I just don't know what to film.

So comment down below some video ideas.

Also, I'm almost out of my Tarte Shape Tape.

"NUT"

Okay. Let's get poppin.

First, I'm gonna take the ColourPop

Amethyst Crystal Priming Spray.

I tried it a few times, but honestly,

I don't remember how I feel about it.

What does that smell like?

I can't put my finger on it.

It smells like an herb of some sort, maybe. I don't know.

Okay. Let's see if it makes my makeup last, though.

That would be awkward if it didn't.

But I'm gonna use two primers,

because spray is not enough.

A b- has to fill in her pores.

I'm gonna take the Dr. Brandt Pores No More

Luminizer Primer.

I used this in my BoxyCharm video,

but I still want to try it again.

I don't know.

I feel like this is like a "second impression."

The reason why I wanted

to do a "First Impressions" video

is because one Wet n Wild came out with their new . . .

like, these new palettes, and they swatch amazingly,

and I'm pretty pumped about it, honestly.

I love dru . . . I'm a drugstore queen.

What can I say? So, yeah.

Lit. Oh my god. My face feels so smooth.

I love this primer. Oh my god.

Nut. That's a f-ing nut.

I vote yes. Yes.

Take the Tarte Shape Tape in the shade "Light."

I'm not going with foundation today.

Oh sh-- I'm wearing mascara.

F--! [screeches] Ugh, okay.

F-- me in the a-- and call me Sally.

I'm gonna conceal my chin

so I can take off my eye makeup.

Oh my god. F-- me! This is so gross and so unsanitary.

I love my life.

Ugh. So what's up with you guys?

How have you guys been?

I don't know. I feel like I'm just a sh--y YouTuber

and I never asked you guys how you are.

Here's your chance.

I'm going to leave a few seconds of silence,

and just talk to me about your life.

Rant to me. Are there any b--s talking sh--?

Are there any . . .

I don't know. Good memes? I don't f-ing know.

Oh yeah. That sucks.

Oh girl, don't worry. It'll get better.

Oh no, yeah. Of course.

Yeah. For sure.

I hate myself.

Ugh. I feel like this video is gonna be trash,

but I need to have videos for this week,

and I don't have any.

Okay. Now I'm going to conceal my under eyes.

I don't know what to talk about.

I am the world's sh--iest YouTuber.

I should be kicked off of YouTube.

And I'm also gonna prime my eyes with this concealer.

This is not a first impression, by the way.

I love the Tarte Shape Tape.

If you're new to my channel.

Heyyy! I am a piece of sh--.

Yes. Who's this sexy

piece

of

meme.

I'm gonna take the Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder.

I've tried this a few times.

I actually haven't really been using it that much,

because I've been trying to use up

my Rimmel Stay Matte.

But this is one of my favorite powder foundations.

It's literally my only powder foundation.

But it's so f-ing good.

So full coverage. Makes your makeup last forever.

Ten out of ten would f-ing bang.

And I'm setting my eyelids

in just everywhere I put the "conciller."

And also, I'm gonna put this on

other parts of my face, you know?

That I need some extra coverage.

Because I'm not wearing foundation today.

That's what I love about powder foundation.

You can wear it by itself,

or you can put it on top of foundation

for a little extra coverage.

Ya know!

So, I think I'm gonna move on to my eyeshadow now.

This palette is called Rose in the Air.

And, I can't . . . Oh!

I'm sorry. I just dug my nail into it.

Okay. You have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 mattes

and two shimmers.

Or, one of them's a satin,

and one of them's a shimmer. Which I love.

I love majority matte palettes,

especially from the drugstore. I feel like

no drugstore palettes are matte.

So you get two transition shades,

and then you get a bunch of colors.

It kind of reminds me of the Modern Renaissance.

Not gonna lie.

So I'm just gonna take this white / cream shade,

and I'm gonna set my eyelid with that.

And then I think I'm gonna take

one of the transition shades. I think.

What kind of look?

Do I want to do a pink look

or a more orange-y look?

I'll do an orange-y look.

So I'll take this transition shade - the bottom one .

I'm gonna mix it a little bit with the top one,

just to get a little bit more . . .

toned.

Ooooh.

Blends out well. That's a nut.

I'm kind of "NUT" -ing. Not gonna lie.

Use Annikasnut for 10% off at thenutbutton.com.

They sent me an email the other day,

and they were like,

"So far, you've sold over 30 'NUT' buttons."

Yeah, guys. Thirty!

I hate myself.

But thank you guys so much for buying them.

I love it. I love it.

Now that we have the transition in

-- which actually blended really well,

a really decent amount of pigment,

especially for a drugstore pallete --

I'm gonna take this orange-y shade right here,

and I'm gonna use that as my crease color.

Yeah. But, also comment down below.

I feel like I'm might . . .

Oh my god. January is almost over.

It's my mom's birthday today, January 27th.

Everybody comment in the comments,

"Happy Birthday, Amy!"

It'll make her really happy.

So yeah. I love my madre. She's the best.

I'm gonna take this dark red shade.

This really reminds me of the Modern Renaissance.

I feel like they were trying to copy it.

Like, some of these colors are so similar. So . . .

I don't really know.

I'm kind of busting a nut.

Like, I'm not even gonna lie right now.

I'm gonna take the dark brown shade,

which is kind of like Cyprus Umber.

I'm scared it's gonna be really pigmented.

And I'm just gonna put that in the outer corner.

Okay it's not super-duper pigmented, which is fine.

I also love how this palette has a white in it,

and then it has a deep, deep brown,

which you can use as a black.

This eye is much better than this eye.

I feel like that's how it always is.

We always have one eye that's just trash.

I'm gonna finish up once I'm done with my eyebrows.

So I'm gonna do my eyebrows off-camera,

and I'll be back.

I'm back. And with brows.

The camera is too far down.

I look like a snack. Oh my god.

I'm gonna take the shimmering gold shade

in the palette. Do I want to take it on a brush?

I think I'm gonna take it on a brush.

Um, what brush, though?

I'm gonna take this e.l.f. brush.

I think it's clean. Yeah, sure. Okay.

And take that shimmering gold shade.

I'll spray it with the Mario Badescu Cucumber Water.

Okay. Okay. No fallout, which is nice.

I'm fine with that. I'm . . .

down for that.

I'm just scared that it's gonna transfer

once I open my eyes. Can I dry it? No. It's powder.

I'm so f-ing dumb.

I'm gonna take the transition shades that we took,

and I'm gonna run those underneath the lower lash line.

And then I'm gonna take the orange shade,

and deepen up the outer part of the lower lash line.

I'm not going too ham.

I feel like I look weird if I do my eyeshadow,

but not my lower lash line.

It just kind of bugs me.

It makes my eye feel incomplete.

So . . I feel like the lighting is so wonky.

There's so much light coming from that side,

and not enough coming from this side.

I turned on another light. Is that better?

I should have done that in the first place.

I'm so sorry. I hate myself.

This is probably gonna be a really sh-- video,

but you know what?

I'm having a hard time giving a flying f--.

I'm using the Tarteist Mascara. I don't know.

I got in my BoxyCharm.

I haven't used it yet.

I got it in my December BoxyCharm, so . . .

It's fine. Oh yeah. Final thoughts on that palette:

It's amazing. I love it.

I'm definitely gonna use it a lot.

It's so easy. It blends really fast.

And it just has really nice everyday natural colors.

And they have a bunch of different palettes.

I think they have like three or four.

So there are options.

Please f-ing kill me now.

This mascara? I like it just fine.

I'm just so used to my Essence Lash Princess,

which makes your lashes like . . .

So, I'm not shook.

You know what? I'm just gonna stop talking.

Okay. I actually kind of like that.

Like, it's a nice mascara if you want long lashes

that aren't super crazy.

This is not super crazy, in my opinion.

Might be super crazy to other people.

But now, let's move on to the face makeup.

When I was getting the Wet n Wild palette,

I saw that they had these MegaGlo Hello Halo things.

I've been using this a few times the past week,

and I really like it. It has a fat-ass applicator,

and it's just really natural.

I like to top it with another highlighter.

But I feel like it would be even pretty as a primer.

I feel that would be really f-ing cool.

Yeah. I got the shade "Halo, Goodbye."

Get it? Because it's a play on words?

Ha ha. Halo. Ha.

I hate myself.

Hi. Sorry. My camera ran out of space.

Pro YouTuber. Okay.

I'm gonna take the LA Girl Strobe Light Strobing Powder

in the shade "100 Watt."

I tried these highlighters before,

but I haven't tried this shade, which I feel like . . .

The other shade that I have

is way too f-ing dark for me, so

Ooh-ooh. Yes!

Oh my god.

And they sell this at the CVS in the Natick Mall,

if y'all live in Massachusetts.

They sell this in the CVS at the Natick Mall.

They sell LA Girl. And I never knew that,

I didn't know that they sold LA Girl at CVS, so . . .

CVS is stepping up their game.

And I'm also gonna highlight my inner corners with that.

I don't know why I highlighted before I contoured

and put on blush, but I f-ing did. So, yeah.

I'm gonna take the Bronze Essential Beaute Basics.

This is literally 40 bucks.

I got it in my BoxyCharm.

It looks like it would be two dollars

at CVS or some sh--.

I'm gonna try and mostly get this middle shade,

but try not getting the glitter, because . . .

I'm so scared.

I'm doing a good job at not getting the glitter.

It's just hard.

I wish that they had glitter on one side,

and then matte on the other side. I don't know.

Halo, goodbye! [laughs] Get it?

It's nice. It has a nice level of pigment.

Would I pay $40 for it? Absolutely f-ing not.

Do I like it? Yes. Will I use it? Probably.

Okay. And then the last product,

before we move on to the lips

is the LA Girl Just Blushing Blush

in the shade "Just Playful."

And I can't f-ing open it.

It's just a mauve color.

I hope that it will match the look,

because it's the only new blush I have.

Oooh, I like this blush. Sh--.

Yeah. It has a really nice level of pigment.

Like, I can swirl my brush around

and I'll get a good level of color,

but it won't be too pigmented.

Damn. I like that blush. Okay. Okay.

I will never, in my life, use up an entire blush, though.

Because I rarely use blush.

But I have an entire blush drawer filled with f-ing blush.

Like, to the brim.

I have a few lipsticks that are new

but I don't think any of them are really gonna match.

These are from the NikkiTutorials collab.

I really like the formula of OFRA's lipstick.

I also love the highlighter from that collab.

It's amazing. This one.

But do I want to use the nude one?

This could be cool.

This is in the shade "Coven."

I don't know. Wait. Let me put it on.

I'll see if I like it.

Yeah. Actually, I kind of like that.

I wish . . . I really wish that this shade weren't glittery,

because I feel like . . . or metallic, or whatever.

I feel like I would wear it a lot more.

Because I love this shade of brown.

F--. I'm gonna need to . . . I didn't use a liner,

so, we're gonna have to go over this with a Q-Tip.

But I do like to apply . . . I try to use lipsticks

that I don't usually wear in tutorials.

Because I wouldn't wear this out, necessarily,

but it looks good with the look, you know? So, yeah.

I'm gonna . . . Do I have a new setting spray?

Oh yeah. This OFRA one.

I'm really scared to use it, though,

because it broke Liv Walters out into hives.

But I don't know. It's called the Makeup Fixer.

I'm really scared.

And it also just looks really industrial,

and I've never heard anybody talk about it. So . . .

Okay. The mist is really hard to squirt.

And it smells like my friend

from fifth grade. Her house.

So it kind of brings me back a little bit,

so I kind of like the smell. But . . .

The spritzer is so weird.

I don't know. It doesn't feel heavy on my face, though.

I'm just so scared

that I'm gonna break out into hives.

You know what? Just to be safe,

I'm gonna spray the Urban Decay All Nighter on top of it.

I love this setting spray, so . . .

Oh my god. That is a f-ing nut.

So yeah. I'm sorry this was a super boring video,

but I hope that you guys got to see me try out

some of these new products that I have.

Where is my fan?

So once again, don't forget to comment

any video ideas down below,

because I'm running low as f--.

Thank you guys so much for watching.

keep on

Asthma for Families - Duration: 7:24.

Asthma is a health problem that can make it hard to breathe.

This can be very frustrating and scary.

For kids, it can make them miss a lot of school.

But - if you know what to do, asthma can be controlled.

With the help of parents, teachers, nurses, and doctors, the good news is that children

with asthma can live healthy, active lives.

They can go to school, play sports, play the trumpet--or whatever they love to do!

When you breathe, air moves from your nose or mouth into your lungs by passing through

small tubes, called airways.

People with asthma have trouble breathing because these airways get narrower, making

it hard for air to move in and out.

Let's take a closer look at the airways inside the lungs.

One reason that asthma makes it hard to breathe is that it causes a lot of irritation and

swelling, making the walls of the airways get thick.

The muscles around the airways also get irritated and squeeze, making them even more narrow.

With-- asthma, the irritation also leads to more mucus, which can clog the airways.

Breathing with asthma can feel like breathing through a thin straw - it is hard to move

air in and out, and can be very tiring.

Asthma is different for everyone.

The most common symptoms are coughing, chest tightness, getting tired easily, and wheezing.

Wheezing is a high-pitched whistling sound that comes from the air trying to get in and

out of the lungs through narrow airways.

In some children, cough may be the only symptom, and may increase at night or while napping,

making it hard to sleep.

Some people with asthma have symptoms almost every day.

Others have symptoms once every few months.

But asthma is a chronic disease, which means it never really goes away, so people with

asthma should always have their medications ready.

Sometimes, asthma symptoms can suddenly get worse.

This is called an asthma attack.

During an asthma attack, it can be so hard to breathe that it is hard to talk.

If a child is having an asthma attack, you might be able to see them using muscles in

their neck, or between the ribs, to help breathe.

Severe asthma attacks are dangerous, require medicine, and may require going to the hospital!

Talk to your doctor, so you know what to do.

----------------------------------------------

An asthma trigger is something that makes your asthma symptoms start up or get worse.

Everyone has different triggers, but a common one is cigarette smoke.

Cigarette smoke can be harmful even when not in the air because it can get caught in clothes

and furniture and still trigger asthma.

Other causes inside the house can be things like dust, pets, cockroaches, mold, strong

perfumes, and cleaning products.

Triggers outside the house can be things like cold air, pollen, grass, and air pollution.

Asthma can also be triggered by getting sick with a cold, flu, or other illness.

Knowing your triggers and staying away from them can help you control your asthma.

Make sure that nobody in the home smokes, and try to keep your home free of cockroaches

and mold.

On heavy air pollution days keep children with asthma indoors, when possible.

Avoid standing too close to cars or buses when their engines are running.

Make sure you always have your medicines with you, as you will need them if your asthma

is triggered.

If a trigger is something like a cold, asthma symptoms usually improve once the illness

goes away.

If your asthma is brought on by exercise or sports, it can be tempting to avoid those

things, but exercise is an important part of being healthy for everyone--including people

with asthma.

With the right medications, a person with asthma can live a very active life.

Talk to your doctor to make sure everyone in the family with asthma has the right medicine

and action plan to stay healthy.

-------------------------- There are two main types of medication that

can help with asthma - relievers and controllers.

Both play an important role in helping to manage asthma, but are used very differently.

Relievers, sometimes called rescue inhalers, work within minutes to relax the muscles around

the airways and can stop an asthma attack while it's happening.

They can make it easier to breathe right away.

That's why it's important for everyone with asthma to always have a reliever medication

with them in case they need it.

People who have asthma symptoms more than a few times a week need to also have a controller

medicine.

Controllers reduce mucus and swelling, but have to be used every day to work.

They don't help right away, but over time can make lungs healthier.

This will help people with asthma have fewer symptoms, and fewer asthma attacks.

But during an asthma attack, only relievers will help right away.

There are many different kinds of controllers, so talk to your doctor to make sure you have

one if you need one.

Both of these medication types are usually taken with an inhaler.

For children, inhalers should be used with spacers.

The spacer helps get the medication deep into the lungs instead of just in the mouth.

If the medicine cannot get into the lungs it won't help.

Babies and younger kids may need a nebulizer machine which turns a liquid medication into

a mist that can be breathed in.

Inhalers and nebulizers take practice to use, so ask your nurse or doctor to watch you do

it at your next visit.

The inhaler, spacer, and mask can be bulky to carry around, but all people with asthma

need to have their rescue medicines close by at all times.

They can be life-saving during an asthma attack!

The main thing is that every person with asthma has their own medicine plan, clearly understands

how and when to use each medicine, and feels confident that their medicines work for them.

This plan is sometimes called an asthma action plan.

It is very important that people who take care of kids with asthma have their medicines

and know how to use them.

If you have a child with asthma, make sure their school or day care has the reliever

medicine as well as your consent to use it.

Ask the school nurse or principal if you need to sign a medication form.

They may need this to be able to give the medication to your child for breathing problems

at school!

Okay - let's review - asthma is a health condition that affects many people, especially

children.

It makes the airways in the lungs narrow and tight, making it hard to breathe.

Each person can have different asthma triggers, and a common one is cigarette smoke.

Medicines include both relievers and controllers and can help a person with asthma lead a very

active life and not have to miss out on school.

So work with your doctor to develop an asthma action plan specific for your child and don't

let asthma hold your child back.

(ALMOST) FULL FACE OF FIRST IMPRESSIONS - Duration: 10:53.

TTMtv Vlog #79 - Trucktest: Renault Trucks T 440 Optifuel - Duration: 5:13.

Hello! Welcome to a new episode of TTMtv! My name is Arjan

Velthoven and today red - sorry Marco - today red is the colour of my test truck.

You can see it very well. This is the Renault Trucks T 440 OptiFuel.

We're gonna drive it.

But first wash the truck!

Welcome inside this bright red Renault T 440 Optifuel. Here on the inside

you can also spot red details, like

these beautiful safety belts. That's a nice detail.

This is the Sleeper Cab. That means

we have an engine tunnel of about 15 centimetres high.

There are some nice features in this cab. On the left there's a tv.

We have a standairco. So that's nice and cool in the summer and comfy warm in winter.

But there's also an extra bed, so double bunks,

much comfort in this truck. It always performs well

in cabin tests. What more news do we have?

This truck has OptiVision for the first time.

That's the smart cruise control which can look forward and

basically it's the same system Volvo operates with

I-See. An advantage is that all

data gathered by Volvo's and Renaults can be shared,

so that's a very rich database. So I hope it will work for us. We'll see.

New as well, but you can't see it, because it's under the floor, is the DTI13 engine.

440 bhp but with common rail technique for the first time.

So that should be just that bit more efficient than before. We will see

how we will fare. We have a long route to go for now.

OptiRoll we have as well, of course.

We just had lunch. Hervé's behind the wheel rested and well.

We're on our way to Cologne and like I said this truck has OptiVision. So

on hills like we're riding now,

the vehicle just sees how the terrain is and adapts to it. So that will

be an advantage to the fuel efficiency.

We're at the end of our trip for today. The diesel's going in fast. How much

it really is, we'll have to calculate well. We had some traffic jams,

we had some rain, the driver is a bit irritated,

because of the traffic. But I think it 'll be ok because this truck

of course is enhanced compared to it's predecessor.

How OptiFuel this truck is exactly, you will read in one of the coming editions of TTM.nl magazine.

Thanks a lot for watching this vlog! Greetings as well from

Hervé, I hope he can enjoy the evening!

Hope to see you next time! BYE!

Ivanka Trump & Marco Rubio Team Up To Draft Amazingly Awful Legislation - Duration: 4:43.

According to reports, Ivanka Trump, a woman who knows absolutely nothing whatsoever about

American policy is teaming up with Marco Rubio, a guy who probably also knows very little

about American policy, to come up with a paid parental leave plan that can then be enacted

on the federal level.

Now on the surface that actually looks like a good thing, in spite of the fact that we

have two of the dumbest people in DC working on it, you know?

We need paid parental leave, guaranteed paid parental leave in the United States.

So, what's the problem with these two working together?

Well, the problem is the fact that the plan they're currently working on requires parents

to take money out of their own social security accounts, money they've been paying in for

years and years, and that would be used to supplement them so that they could take their

paid parental leave, which would also obviously mean that they would have to put off retirement,

as most Americans only have social security as their retirement savings account.

So basically Ivanka Trump and Marco Rubio, these two policy wonks, believe that American

citizens should basically have to start stealing money from themselves if they want to get

paid parental leave.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't corporations in this country just get a massive tax cut?

Didn't they just get to pocket billions of dollars?

In fact, I think it was actually about $1.4 or $1.5 trillion that's going back in their

pockets.

So, why do we have to steal from our future self in order to get paid parental leave?

I would think common sense would tell you that since these corporations just got a massive

tax cut and they're getting tons of money back, that they would be more than able to

pay for paid parental leave for people who need to leave whenever their child has a serious

illness or whenever they give birth to a new child or whenever they adopt a child or whatever

you want to use your parental leave for.

I think corporations have enough money to pay for that now, thanks to the Republican

tax cut.

Or did I miss something about that?

Maybe it's because I read the reports where corporations admitted that they weren't going

to use this money on their employees or that they weren't going to use it to expand their

operations, and instead they were going to split it up among their shareholders as bonuses,

or they were going to reinvest it in the United States by buying back their own stocks, which

would only serve to make more money for their shareholders and do nothing for their employees.

Ivanka Trump and Marco Rubio have no business whatsoever working on policies together.

It's bad enough that it's literally Marco Rubio's job to develop policies, but bringing

in Ivanka Trump, that's how we end up with a train wreck of a situation like this where

they say, "You know what?

We've got plenty of money, so why don't we just tell Americans that they also have plenty

of money that they've been paying into to their retirement accounts via social security

and you can just take the money from your future self and use that to do what you need

to do now."

That's why we have such a massive debt problem among citizens here in the United States.

That's what debt is.

Taking money away from your future self for something that you need now and a lot of us

cannot help it.

We have to do it.

Student loans, stealing from your future self in order to pay for an education now.

We have to do it, though.

Same thing goes for car repairs if you can't afford them.

Home repairs.

Things like that.

Medical bills.

But paid parental leave, no.

That's something that the corporations that we work for have plenty of money to cover,

and if you want to come up with a meaningful policy that actually helps people, then you

tell corporations that, "Guess what?

This one's on you.

For once, you're going to step up and do something good for your employees so that they don't

have to steal money from themselves 20 years in the future, screw over themselves on their

retirement so that they have to work until they drop dead on the factory floor," because

that is what Ivanka and Marco Rubio's plan would mean for millions of American citizens.

Why Hosting The Olympics Isn't Worth It Anymore - Duration: 5:28.

- [Narrator] Ah, the Olympics.

The glory of our best athletes competing for greatness

in shiny new stadiums for viewers around the world.

But recent game are rife with overspending,

wastes, and controversy.

And most viewers don't even see the lasting damage

the games do to the host city.

Could we be watching the death of the Olympics?

Well, right now it's hard to tell.

But this honored tradition is looking sicker every year.

Hosting is expensive.

Every game in the last 50 years has gone over budget.

The 2014 Sochi Winter Games went over

it's 10 billion dollar budget

by an additional 41 billion dollars.

No one knows this better than Professor Andrew Zimbalist.

He's written several books on the Olympics,

including "Rio 2016: Olympic Myths, Hard Realities."

- These days they require about

35 different athletic vendors.

They require an Olympic village that costs one and a half,

two, three billion dollars depending on the circumstance.

They require a media and television production facility,

which could very easily go for half a billion

to a billion dollars.

They require a media village.

They require ceremonial space, and green space.

They require transportation amongst all of them,

and special lanes for the IOC executives transportation

amongst all of the venues.

- [Narrator] Cities used to make a profit from the games.

Partly because they collected

a lot of revenue in TV rights.

But recently the International Olympic Committee

has been taking a larger percentages.

In the 90's for instance, it took 4% of revenue.

Compare that with the 70% it pocketed

from the 2016 Rio Games.

The newly built stadium can cost up to 30 million dollars a

year to maintain and they are often on valuable real estate.

Most cities don't even know what

to use them for after the games.

Those facilities fall into decay if they're not kept up,

and that hurts property value.

- There could also be a lot of environmentalist disruption.

The Winter Olympics they'll be having in Pyeong Chang,

they destroyed a whole mountainside.

Trees and animals that are there,

and some of them close to extinction.

- [Narrator] So who'd want to host the Olympics

in the first place?

Not many.

After each financial failure fewer cities bid to host

the following decades games.

After all, it takes 10 years of planning

just to be in the running to host.

Chicago spent and estimated 100 million on the campaign

to host in 2016, and they lost.

Boston famously pulled it's bid for the 2024 Summer Games,

after citizen group No Boston Olympics

convinced the city otherwise.

12 cities bid for the 2004 games, five for 2020,

and just two for 2022 Winter Games: China and Kazakhstan.

So is that it?

RIP Olympic games?

- (chuckles) It won't end.

Thomas Bach, the President of the IOC,

for all the criticisms that I have of him, he's a smart guy,

and he knows when he's up against the wall.

And they've been up against the wall.

- [Narrator] In 2014 IOC President Thomas Bach suggested

a list of 40 actions the IOC could take

to shape the future of the Olympic Movement.

Among them, evaluate bid cities by

assessing key opportunities and risks,

reduce the cost of bidding,

and include sustainability in all aspects

of the Olympic Games.

It sounds good on paper,

but time will tell if these actions take root.

- We're gonna become more sustainable,

we're gonna become more affordable,

we're gonna become more flexible,

and by doing that, by tweaking the model a little bit

and making pronouncements,

they reengage cities to participate.

And what's generally happened is the model has been

slightly reformed.

It's a little bit more sensible now then it was

before the end of 2020.

- [Narrator] Zimbalist supports a different idea

to keep the Olympics alive.

Get rid of the bidding system and pick a permanent host.

Somewhere that has the built in facilities,

infrastructure, and venues.

- [Zimbalist] We happen to have such a city

for the Summer Olympics, it's Los Angeles.

They don't have to do any building virtual.

They've got the infrastructure,

transportation infrastructure.

Because it's the second largest city

and the entertainment capital of the country.

They've got all of the professional teams

from all the leagues.

- [Narrator] A permanent city could benefit

the Winter Games as well.

As the climate changes, less cities that have

hosted Games in the past can reliably keep snow.

The IOC isn't a fan of this idea,

but as bidding hosts dwindle, so do their options.

The future Summer Games are planned out through 2028,

and the Winter Games through 2022.

The 2026 Olympics have several cities exploring bids,

including two previous hosts,

Salt Lake City and Sapporo Japan.

Germany, Australia, and India

have all expressed interest in the 2032 Summer Games.

Despite its flaws,

the Olympic Games is still a people pleaser.

The IOC polled candidate host cities for the 2020 Games

and 70% of Tokoyo, 76% of Madrid,

and 83% of Istanbul were in support.

So maybe the Olympics aren't dying,

but it's certainly up to the

International Olympic Committee to keep the games in check.

Both on the field and off.

(gentle orchestra music)

How The Cast Of Black Panther Should Actually Look - Duration: 10:07.

Filmmakers tasked with adapting comic book icons for the big-screen have their work cut

out for them.

After all, redesigning a universe filled with flashy super suits and living planets can

be a bit of a challenge.

Plus, screwing up the balance of "faithful" and "creative" means inspiring the fiery wrath

of comic book fanboys — and nobody wants that.

Luckily, the Afro-futuristic nation of Wakanda and its denizens have been given one badass

makeover for the big-screen.

And even though we're super into the aesthetic that director Ryan Coogler's bringing to the

table, let's take a look at what the cast of Black Panther should really look like.

T'Challa/Black Panther

The man behind the Black Panther mask, T'Challa has been the king of Wakanda since his father's

death during the signing of the Sokovia Accords in Captain America: Civil War.

Like his Avengers ally Tony Stark, T'Challa isn't afraid to switch up his gear every once

in a while.

Since going toe-to-toe with Bucky Barnes, also known as Winter Soldier, in his MCU debut,

T'Challa's snagged a spiffy new costume — a lighter, energy-absorbent vibranium suit.

This one boasts a more "tribal" aesthetic reminiscent of illustrator Andy Park's early

concept design of the butt-kicking king's Panther Mantle.

Black Panther's new suit remains relatively faithful to recent comic runs, and T'Challa

himself looks pretty close to his comic book counterpart too.

Where Chadwick Boseman's interpretation of the character isn't afraid to rock the scruff,

however, his comic book equivalent is all about keeping that chiseled jaw fur-free.

Still, Boseman's T'Challa is a near-perfect real-life interpretation of the king cat in

black.

Ulysses Klaue

While Black Panther's titular hero is more or less identical to his comic book double,

its main antagonist, Ulysses Klaue, has undergone quite an overhaul.

Portrayed by master of motion capture Andy Serkis, Klaue has swapped out his comic counterpart's

bulky sonic blaster for a souped-up, retractable prosthetic.

But by far the biggest difference between the charismatic arms dealer and his sinister

supervillain namesake is the fact that Serkis' Klaue is obviously not a being made entirely

of living sound.

Technically, Marvel Comics' Klaw was also once a bearded human jerk.

But his eventual redesign as a red-n'-purple baddy and frequent nemesis of the Fantastic

Four is the far more memorable incarnation of the one-armed heel.

Shuri

Sister of T'Challa and smartypants Vibranium tinkerer, Princess Shuri is a force to be

reckoned with.

Not only is she the greatest scientific genius this side of Stark Tower, but, in the comics,

she's taken up the Panther Mantle on a number of occasions in her brother's absence.

In other words, like T'Challa, she's consumed the Heart-Shaped Herb and reaped the same

superhuman powers.

Shuri, portrayed by Letitia Wright in MCU's Black Panther, has undergone a dramatic redesign.

Chief among the differences is her outfit, a sleeveless tunic and a full mantle with

neck coverage along with what appears to be a chin guard.

While comic book Shuri doesn't wear much makeup save for the occasional strip of paint over

her chin, the MCU's Wakandan princess adorns herself with a series of white dots across

her forehead, brow, cheeks, and chin.

She also wears her hair in a braided updo while her comic book counterpart typically

wears her hair short under an ornate headdress or her Black Panther mask.

Killmonger

In the comics, the exiled and shamed warrior N'Jadaka adopts the pseudonym Killmonger,

blaming both T'Challa's bloodline and Klaw for his parents' demise.

In an intriguing twist, Michael B. Jordan's interpretation of the character — a former

American black ops soldier named Erik Stevens — teams up with the South African supervillain

Klaw.

Instead of, y'know, beating him to a bloody pulp the first chance he gets.

The MCU sees Killmonger — who earned his nickname on the battlefield — transformed

from a Herculean behemoth to a buff badass with a sense of style.

The MCU's Erik Stevens may have lost his source material's straight-up murder-y aura — but

he more than makes up for it with hip sensibilities, combat know-how, and his very own Gold Jaguar

suit.

Nakia

If Lupita Nyong'o has proven anything since her award-winning breakout role in 2013's

12 Years a Slave, it's that she can do no wrong.

So casting her among Black Panther's pantheon of brilliant actors must've seemed like a

no-brainer.

Nyong'o portrays Nakia, a secret agent summoned back to Wakanda at the behest of T'Challa.

In the Black Panther comics, Nakia teams up with Killmonger and eventually adopts the

villain persona Malice after her obsession with the titular Wakandan king lands her in

hot water.

While her comics counterpart is known for her bead-adorned hair and jewelry, Nyong'o's

take on the character wears her hair in tight curls and dons a variety of getups — including

full Dora Milaje armor.

M'Baku

Thankfully, the Black Panther comics' problematically named Man-Ape will be sticking with his birth

name — M'Baku — for his film debut.

Producer Nate Moore, however, admits that the gorilla gods are important to M'Baku's

tribe, the Jabari.

Thus, while he's ditching the name, the Wakandan throne-seeker and potential unlikely ally

to T'Challa will retain a touch of white fur along his arms and legs.

His revamped wardrobe is a nod to his source material's gruesome costume — a white gorilla

hide that he donned after hunting a mythical ape, skinning it, devouring its flesh, and

bathing in its blood.

Yikes.

Ramonda

"My son, it is your time."

Matriarch of Wakanda, wife of the late T'Chaka, and mother of T'Challa and Shuri, Ramonda

has suffered greatly at the hands of her husband and son's political rivals.

Yet despite years of family tragedy, she's proven herself to be a vital asset to the

Wakandan high council.

In the Black Panther comics, Ramonda has been depicted with both black and white hair.

The MCU's film, on the other hand, sees Angela Bassett's take on the character at her most

regal, rocking ivory dreadlocks and a wardrobe fit for the Queen Mother of Wakanda.

Zuri

In the Black Panther comics, Zuri was a personal attendant to T'Chaka before the elder ruler's

death.

He would go on to serve the same role for his son, the young King T'Challa.

That is, until the warrior's untimely demise at the hands of Morlun, an energy vampire,

in a sequence of events that's way too complicated to talk about here.

Suffice to say, Zuri plays a slightly different role in the MCU.

A spiritual "Obi-Wan" type, the Wakandan shaman-like figure is something of an advisor to T'Challa

and his kin.

Appearance-wise, these two interpretations look like entirely different characters.

While the Marvel Comics iteration of Zuri is a hulking behemoth complete with bursting

abs and a neck thicker than most men's waists, Forest Whitaker … isn't.

That's not to say the acting veteran doesn't look rad in his own right: trading his comic

doppelganger's black mane for a bald dome and adding a splash of color to his drab robes,

Zuri's big-screen interpretation calls to mind a wise elder figure.

Everett Ross

Let's face it: Martin Freeman doesn't exactly stand out in a crowd — and neither does

Black Panther comics' Everett K. Ross.

He's without question the least interesting and least-super-powered guy in the mix.

But personality-wise, the cold, no-nonsense CIA operative we met in Captain America: Civil

War is a total 180 from the Chandler Bing-inspired diplomat tasked with escorting T'Challa onto

American soil in the comics.

In the Black Panther film, Ross finds himself involved in a conflict between Ulysses Klaue

and T'Challa, causing him to team up with the Wakandan King and become one of his most

trusted allies.

While these two versions of Ross are polar opposites in terms of attitude, personality,

behavior, and just about everything else, the suits at MCU did a bang-up job nailing

his clean-cut style — or, at least they did in Civil War.

Sure, they may both be average-looking, middle-aged white dudes, but the perpetually-suited, too-sarcastic-for-his-own-good

diplomat who once sold his soul for a pair of pants wouldn't be caught dead in a t-shirt

and casual jacket.

OK, that's a stretch, we know.

But there's really not much to say about this guy.

Could he be any more nondescript?

Ayo

Like Everett Ross, we briefly met Ayo in Civil War during a confrontation between T'Challa's

feisty head of security and Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a Black Widow.

While we learned little to nothing about Ayo's character from her short scene, her single

line of dialogue ...

"Move.

Or you will be moved."

...shined a light on what we could come to expect from the Dora Milaje agent.

Keeping Black Panther safe is her top priority.

Ayo's onscreen presence seems more or less in line with her comic book counterpart — they've

both vowed to protect their king and loved ones on many an excursion across Wakanda and

beyond.

That being said, comic book Ayo has a bit more pizazz than her film doppelgänger, who

keeps things simple with a shaved head and traditional Dora Milaje armor.

In the comics, Ayo rocks a sick sci-fi shaved head/ponytail combo along with glyph-like

ink down her forehead and across her cheeks.

Okoye

Like Ayo, Okoye is a member of T'Challa's personal bodyguard unit, the Dora Milaje.

And while a number of the fearsome sisterhood soldiers wear their ink proudly in the comics,

MCU Okoye's shaved head and unique angular tattoos has her standing out from the squad.

Danai Gurira's look is as close as you can get to the comics' portrayal of the royal

band of butt-kickers — depending on the run, that is.

Black Panther comic writer Ta-Nehisi Coates' contemporary take on the troop sees them rocking

their infamous facial tats and hip haircuts.

But Christopher Priest was the brains behind their comic book debut, and his interpretation

of the bodyguards was more in line with your typical femme fatales, impractical tight dresses

and all.

W'Kabi

Daniel Kaluuya's W'Kabi shares his comic book counterpart's primary responsibilities as

chief of Wakandan border tribe security.

In the Black Panther comics, W'Kabi would prove to be an invaluable ally to T'Challa,

even becoming his second in command before dying alongside Zuri at the hands of Morlun

— again, that dude whose arc we're not even getting into.

Like Zuri, W'Kabi's MCU interpretation differs from his source material's incarnation so

dramatically that the uninformed might mistake him for a brand new character.

While the Black Panther comics depict W'Kabi with a bundle of wild dreadlocks and little

clothing — so as to not restrict him while he's bashing skulls — Kaluuya's character

of the same name sticks to a relatively reserved look, appearing more like an angry puppy than

the grizzled, bionic-armed warrior we've come to love — and mourn.

Top 10 Video Game Characters That Can Destroy The World - Duration: 4:52.

Hey guys!

Welcome back to Top 10 Gaming, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey.

Video games are the home of some pretty darn powerful characters, both heroic and villainous.

And while not all would choose to do so, many of these characters could take blow up Earth

fairly easily.

Of course, with just 10 points I can't list them all, but I tried to put together a pretty

varied bunch.

If you enjoy this, check out our video on the Top 10 Sci-Fi Weapons!

But before you do that, get ready, it's time for the Top 10 Video Game Characters

that can Destroy the World!

Number 10: Asura from Asura's Wrath.

Asura is pretty darn powerful in the game, but we really get to see his capabilities

in the fight against a powered up Wyzen.

During the fight, Wyzen calls upon the power of the Mantra to grow larger than the Earth.

But Asura unloads a fury of punches on the tip of the powerful demigod's finger, and

he explodes.

It's awesome.

And if Asura can do this do a planet-sized demigod, it seems to me that he could do the

same to the Earth itself.

Number 9: Goku from the Dragonball games.

This is a pretty easy choice.

Really, a lot of the Dragonball characters could destroy the world, but I figured I'd

stick with good ol' Goku.

Now, of course, Goku wouldn't actually do this; he's not that kind of guy.

But if he powered up, especially if he went Super Saiyan God or more, he could definitely

wipe the Earth off the planet.

Wait, that doesn't make sense.

Pretend I said something that made sense.

Number 8: Arceus from Pokemon Diamond.

Arceus is known as the Alpha Pokemon, who created the Pokemon Universe.

And in the slightly altered words of the now-disgraced Bill Cosby: Arceus brought us into this world,

and he can take us out again.

A pokemon with the power to create a universe could definitely destroy a little planet like

ours.

Number 7: Superman from Superman 64.

Superman 64 may have nearly destroyed the Earth by sheer terribleness, but that's beside

the point.

As you hopefully know, the main character of Superman 64 is Superman.

And as you also probably know, Superman is insanely overpowered.

His strength definitely varies, but most versions could pretty easily destroy the Earth.

He wouldn't, but he could.

Number 6: The Dashing Prince from the Katamari series.

This one's a bit different because it isn't some uber powerful character, or someone who

creates powerful weapons... it's just a dude with a super dangerous ball he lugs around

with him.

The ball grabs things it comes in contact with, and it can get really big.

By the end of Katamari Forever, you're rolling your Katamari around, absorbing whole sections

of the planet, so it seems safe to assume that The Prince could destroy a planet if

he set his mind to it.

But hey, a new planet or star would be created, so at least we'd break even!

Number 5: Dr. Robotnik from the Sonic games.

Ha, you thought you were safe from Sonic just because this isn't a Sonic video?

WRONG!

Eggman has proven time and time again that he's capable of destroying the Earth, even

if he hasn't actually succeeded before.

In Sonic Adventure 2, he was able to destroy half the moon with his Eclipse Cannon, and

if he hadn't been defeated, there's no doubt that he could have used the cannon to destroy

the world.

Thank goodness for hedgehogs!

Number 4: Pyron from the Darkstalkers series.

Pyron is an alien from the planet Hellstorm with incredible powers.

While he might look like a more demonic human torch, that's just the form we see.

His non-physical, psychic form spans 400,000 light years.

Yowza.

He has a habit of consuming planets in order to add them to his collection, and if he can

consume and control a planet, it's pretty safe to say that he can destroy it.

Number 3: The Emperor, from the Star Wars games.

This one's pretty undeniable, considering the Emperor has already destroyed worlds with

the Death Star.

Thankfully, he died a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, but if he ever came to Earth

with the Death Star, we would be in for a world of hurt.

I can't tell if that was a pun.

Number 2: Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7.

Sephiroth is one hell of a powerful being, one of the scariest in the Final Fantasy series.

He can do a great deal of damage with normal attacks, but based on the animation for his

Supernova attack, he can do a heck of a lot more with that.

Based on the animation, it seems that his attack can destroy whole planets and even

whole solar systems.

Sure it's possible that this was meant to be metaphorical, but where's the fun in that?

Number 1: Darkdeath Evilman from Z.H.P.

Unlosing Ranger VS Darkdeath Evilman.

Darkdeath Evilman is, unless it wasn't blatantly obvious, the main antagonist of the game,

and he's pretty darn powerful.

You come up against him several times throughout the game, and normally you're not supposed

to be able to beat him.

If you have enough saved levels, however, you can beat him.

And he gets pissed.

And he blows up the world.

So yeah, if we pissed him off, he'd probably blow up Earth too.

This is really true of most the Disgaea (dis-guy-uh) in the series, but I figured I'd choose one

for the sake of clarity.

That's it for today!

Top 10 People Who Survived Parachute Fails - Duration: 8:05.

Parachutes are great - they are the reason that skydivers don't go splat, and they can

be a life saver in the rare occasion of a plane disaster.

Like most things in life though, sometime things go wrong and peoples parachutes arent

there to save them but amazingly they still survive.

My name is Danny Burke and this is the Top 10 People Who Survived Parachute Fails.

Starting off at number 10 we have Juliane Diller.

This is one of the most crazy things Ive ever heard in my life.

Juliane is a German biologist - when she was a teenager, she was on board LANSA Flight

508 in Peru.

The plane was struck by lightning during a severe thunderstorm and broke up in mid air

before disintegrating at 10,000 ft.

Everyone on board eventually died - except Juliane.

She remained strapped in her seat and fell all the way down into the Amazon jungle below.

Amazingly, she survived - probably because her seat and the trees cushioned the blow.

She tried looking for her mother but failed.

Juliane then spent 10 days travelling down a river in the Amazon until she was eventually

rescued by some logger.

Her story has been the focus of many documentaries.

Juliane has said the question of why she was the only survivor will always haunt her …

Next up at number 9 we have Michael Holmes.

In 2006, this skydiver from New Zealand was very experienced, having 7,000 jumps under

his belt.

Then, one day in December, something went wrong.

He jumped out with his fellow divers at 15,000 ft.

He took pictures all the way down to 2,000 ft but when he tried to open his parachute,

he just started spinning.

He tried to open his reserve parachute but the spinning continued - he was experienced

and knew at this point that he was probably going to die.

He made peace with the world and everything went dark.

Michael woke up in a blackberry push, no more than a meter high.

He had shattered his foot, leg, left hip and shoulder.

Its thought that the bush, the angle that he landed at and that his body was relaxed

were all factors in his unlikely survival.

Next up a number 8 we have Vesna Vulovic.

She was a Serbian flight attendant who holds the guiness world record for surviving the

highest fall without a parachute.

On the 26th of January 1972, the plane she was on exploded due to a briefcase bomb - authorities

never pinned down who was the blame.

Vesna fell without a parachute for a mind blowing 33,330 ft - thats over 4000ft higher

than Mount Everest.

Amazingly, the piece of the aircraft she was in hit a heavily wooded and snow covered area

which cushioned the impact.

Its also thought her low blood pressure kept her heart from bursting on impact.

Vesna died in 2016 and those close to her said she always suffered from survivors guilt.

Next up at number 7 we have Nicholas Alkemade.

He was British aircraft gunner during WW2.

On March 24th 1944, his Lancaster bomber was shot down on its way back from a bombing raid.

As the plane caught fire and spiraled out of control - Nicholas realised his his parachute

was on fire.

His only option was to jump without it - at 18,000 ft.

His fall was broken by pine trees and soft snow and he survived with only a sprained

leg.

The rest of his crew crashed and died.

When he was captured by the Nazis, they didnt believe the story he told them - but also,

why would you make that up?

They eventually believed him though and Nicholas was held as a prisoner of war until the end

of the ar.

Moving on to number 6 we have James Boole.

Hes a British athlete skydiver who has completed over 2,500 jumps - sometimes doing 5 a week.

In 2009 he was filming a TV documentary in Russia.

He he had to skydive next to a volcano to film the shot they wanted.

During the dive, James was so focused on filming the shot that he realised he had gone past

the point to release his parachute safely.

He knew this because he could make out the texture of the snow below him - it was way

too late.

He pulled his parachute anyway when he was just 20 meters above the ground.

It swung his legs up in the air but his back slammed into the ground.

He broke his bag and was bleeding internally when the rescue crew found him.

Luckily, the break was stable and he suffered no neural damage which meant that he was able

to walk again within a week.

The accident did not stop him from jumping again!

Moving on to number 5 we have Ivan Chisov.

This Russian pilot was forced to bail out of his plane during an air battle.

At 23,000 ft, he jumped out with his parachute but did not deploy it.

He was worried that the big parachute would make him an easy target for a German pilot.

He wanted to get below the battle and then open it - however, due to the thin atmosphere,

he lost consciousness and couldnt pull the cord.

He slammed into the snow at about 130 mph and the rolled down a hill.

The Russian army were amazed to find him seriously hurt, but still alive.

He remained in critical condition but was flying again just 3 months later!

Next up at number 4 we have Joe Herman.

This was a Australian Air Force pilot whos bomber was shot down in 1944 over West Germany.

Herman ordered his crew to bail out but before he could grab his parachute - the plane exploded

and he was thrown into the air.

As he fell, certain of his death, he collided with another member of the crew.

He grabbed onto his left leg of the man as he opened his parachute.

Luckily, the parachute opened slowly which helped Joe keep his grip on the leg.

The two men landed safely with only some minor injuries between them.

I think that must have a been a real bonding session for them …

Next up at number 3 we have Dave Hodgman.

This is an interesting one because there are real pictures of the event.

In March 1985, in Australia, Dave Hodgman jumped out of a plane at 12,000 ft as part

of a stunt group attempting a formation.

On his way down, he opened his parachute at around 2,500 ft and did not realise he was

below another jumper who also didnt know he was there.

They collided in mid air and their parachutes became tangled.

People watched below in horror as they spun around, Daves parachute was collapsed and

they were both relying on the other parachute for their survival.

They hit the ground hard but both escaped with minor injuries …

Next up at number 2 we have Alan Magee.

This is American man was another WW2 pilot.

His plane was shot down by the Nazis over France in 1942.

His parachute was damaged in the attack and so he jumped from the plane without one at

an astonishing 22,000 ft.

He quickly lost consciousness due to the altitude.

Then, he crashed through the glass roof of the train staion in the French town of St

Nazaire.

Amazingly, the glass absorbed a lot of the force of impact and Alan survived.

He was taken as a prisoner of war and treated for his many injuries but made it back to

America when the town was liberated in 1945 …

And finally at number 1 we have Shayna Richardson.

This one has an INSANE twist at the end.

In 2005, this woman from Mousiri was on her 10th dive with a brand new parachute when

something went wrong.

At about 3,000 ft in the air, her parachute failed to deploy properly.

She accepted that she was going to die and slammed into the ground at 50 mph.

Amazingly, she survived.

Her instructor rushed her to the hospital where she needed 4 operations.

During her time there, scans revealed something else - Shayna had been pregnant - for 2 weeks

before the dive.

The baby went on to have a healthy birth.

That kid is probably a teenager by now, I wonder how often they tell that story …

Well some people say flying is unnatural, that we shouldnt be thousands of feet up in

the air - I think its fine as long as youre in a good plane or you have a good parachute.

What do you guys think of these stories?

Thanks as always for watching, my name is Danny Burke and Ill see you all in the next

video …

[TECH TALK] 3000HP, 10,500RPM 4 Cylinder | Elmer Racings 106kg Billet Block - Duration: 17:38.

- We're here at World Time Attack 2017,

and year after year we're seeing the power figures

from the pro class cars skyrocket.

We're getting to the point now where it's hard

if not impossible to maintain reliability

out of a factory engine.

So this year in particular we're seeing

a lot of the competitors move to a billet block.

This replaces the factory block with billet aluminium

and it's a lot stronger.

We're here with Oskar from Elmer Racing,

all the way from Finland,

and Elmer Racing are responsible for the billet block

behind me that they've designed specifically

for the pro class Porsche RP968.

I wanted to get a chance to talk to Oskar

about the design process of this block

and find out what exactly makes it tick.

So Oskar first of all, when you are faced with a factory

engine block and you're looking at producing a billet item,

what's the process that you go through?

- Well first of all you obviously want to improve

on the stock item because there's no point in just

making a replica of it.

But I mean we want run as much stock accessories

as possible and have it bolt in compatible

as far as possible.

So we take it into our CNC machine,

put in a probe tool there and probe all the locations

of the bolts holes, get all the angles correctly

and all the sizes as close as possible.

I mean there is sometimes some guesswork

because the factory tolerances are plus and minus

something so we try to get those correct.

And yeah then we start looking at what sort of things

can we improve on the things like how far

can we push the bore on the cylinders

and what sort of a stroke area are we looking at,

and how much clearance do we actually need

for the crankshaft so we can push that dimensions

closer to get the block stiffer,

and what sort of a stiffening ribs can we do

and how much weight can we pull out

of different locations and all these kinds of things.

And then it's also obviously a big question like,

are we only doing a block that needs to be fully

compatible with a stock head and a stock girdle,

or if we're doing a stock head also then that opens

up the design box quite a lot because then we can

design the cooling system to be much more efficient

and remove some of the possibilities for vapour

pockets on those and really push the bore and clamping,

and yeah it opens up a lot.

- Let's just step back a few notches here and I wanna talk

about the bore size.

So what you're talking about here is the ability

with a billet block,

you're not restrained by the factory bore diameter.

Obviously with a factory bore diameter,

there's a thickness of the material in the sleeve,

or in the bore,

and if we go too big in the bore diameter

it's reducing that.

So if you're faced with a block where there's enough room

then you can put in sleeves that are much larger

in diameter, that's what you're talking about there,

to increase the capacity of the engine?

- Yeah this 968 loosely based on a 968 engine

is a really good example.

I mean it has stock cooling ducting between the bores.

I mean that's a good solution at the time I guess

but with the materials now it isn't really needed.

So we could push out the bore on those,

I think it's a 12 millimetre larger bore than stock

so I mean if we bored it out that much,

there wouldn't be any cylinder liners at all

left in the stock one.

- What's that take your capacity to from stock

into what you've produced?

- I think it's stock 2.8 or three litres,

something like that,

we pushed this out to four litres now.

And we increased the stroke a little bit to 94 millimetres,

I was trying to push for a longer stroke

but the team didn't want a longer stroke,

and they're the bosses obviously

so yeah went with the 94 millimetre stroke on that.

- So four litres, that's a fairly seriously large

four cylinder engine.

What sort of power do you expect from this billet engine?

- Well design rating for that for circuit rating,

1500 horsepower.

That's basically what I looked at,

all the cylinder pressures,

it needs to be able to clamp that much

and all the cooling capacities and crankshaft

strengths and everything is rated for that.

- And what sort of RPM can you run it to?

- The team here wanted to run it at 8500,

it's definitely capable of that.

They run it to 7000 plus RPM at the dyno already.

But yeah I would really want to see it go to 10000 RPM

because that's the area I think it should be capable of.

- Now in terms of the strength advantage

from the billet material,

we've talked there about the design freedom

to be able to increase the bore diameter.

But the other aspect that's obviously important

is the strength advantage.

And there's a little bit of debate there about the strength

of a billet aluminium versus for example cast iron.

Can you talk to us a little bit about your experience there

and how you see that?

- Yeah I think it's, well there's a two part question.

Just using a billet, that reduces your cost

and the manufacturing amount,

but there's also the alloy question,

like what alloy are you using?

And the billet alloys are stronger than the cast materials

because you can't really cast all the aluminium alloys.

And the really strong aluminium alloys

aren't castable at all.

The material we use is I mean typically you see

6061 or 6082 aluminium materials used,

and that's probably good for most users

and it keeps the cost down,

but we use a stronger material than that.

It's a little bit stronger than 7075,

it's a little bit of an improvement on that alloy.

So the strength of the material is a little bit over,

or around twice the strength of the typical

blocks that they use.

So it is overkill but then again,

we want to overkill as much as possible

to give more head room on everything.

- The other aspect there,

is there a benefit from the grain structure

that you get with using a billet versus a cast material?

- It depends on the casting,

there are some really really nice casting techniques now

that should produce quite uniform structures in the casting.

I mean I'm not a casting expert so not that good at it,

but I mean I have studied a little bit.

You can get better but especially when you start getting

into the thinner wall thicknesses then you start having

problems with the casting process.

I mean even if you can get it cast correctly

then the grain structure's going to be different

than with the strengthening ribs and all these

kind of structures, then you start running into problems.

- Now obviously with the strength

that's been one major issue,

particularly when we are talking about an engine

that's designed to be reliable at 1500 horsepower

and potentially as you say maybe up to 10000 RPM.

The other issue particularly for a circuit application

is that weight is really really critical.

The aluminium that you're using for the billet

obviously is a light material as it is.

But what are the other advantages from using

a billet material and manufacturing the block in that way

in terms of weight savings?

- Well they're sort of quantity wise.

I mean you can tailor it for an engine.

I mean if you need a space somewhere for some auxiliary,

you can do that and you can do a one off version of that.

I mean it's so easy to optimise.

It needs a lot of design time and the manufacturing

time also goes up quite a lot.

I mean in this engine probably the engine block alone,

removing the last two or three kilos from that

probably doubles the machining time on that.

So it is a tradeoff but then again you can optimise

it so far that it's very good.

Compared to a stock 968 engine,

it has already aluminium block,

and it's very well designed by Porsche to be lightweight,

but we managed to pull a couple of kilos

out of the block also.

And from the cylinder head pulled close to four kilos

out of the crankshaft also and everything.

So I mean yeah design wise,

and when you can actually count on the material

actually being up to spec then you don't have to take

this casting process into account,

and you have some tolerances there,

so it helps out a lot with the design.

- Now you've also built the crankshaft in this engine

as well yourself?

- Yeah we did the complete design of that

and manufacturing in house also for the crankshaft.

- So what design functions have you put into that

crankshaft to improve over the standard 968 crank?

Obviously we've already talked about the increased stroke,

but is there anything else that sort of improves

the crank over the Porsche design?

- Well we have the oil cooling or the ducting for

the connecting rods are improved on that.

And design wise also, I mean the,

how can I explain, the connecting pieces

between the connecting rod bearings and the main bearings,

the shape of those are incredibly critical

to get the maximum load areas as low as possible.

And they're very very sensitive,

I mean a small millimetre change

in the shape of the structural piece there

will alter the max load area,

so we were able to push that down quite a bit

and have really a quite big safety margin

even at these power levels.

- So how are you validating these designs

both for the block and the crankshaft?

You've just talked about the design changes

there in the crankshaft,

how are you actually validating this?

- It's with a FEM model.

Basically the cooling stuff, you can do with an FEM model.

You would have to have to have a coupled CFD model

to run that.

So that's a little bit overkill.

I mean it's when you run into problems then you need

to do that because you need to figure out what's wrong,

but so far we haven't run into any problems.

We have a custom solution for the cooling

that we use.

We for instance don't have a solid top part of the block

that a lot of the billet manufacturers want to use.

And that helps out a lot with the design of the cooling

system and everything.

- So are you talking there about an open deck design?

- It's not a closed deck design but it's not really

a open deck design either.

We have sort of strengthening parts in the cooling ducts

that have a particular shape to still have the cooling

be very efficient and so far what we've been testing

in a couple of engines, it works very good,

so happy with that.

- So essentially through the design process

and then your validation on FEA,

you can essentially be reasonably confident

when the engine goes into production

that it is going to meet your design aims?

- Yeah I mean it is guessing but it's like scientific guess,

so it's a little bit better than just guessing.

- It takes a little bit more smarts than just guessing

to get that right.

OK the other thing I wanted to talk about here

is the way the head is retained onto the engine block

I mean with a high boost turbo charged engine,

we see this particularly in drag racing

where we're running very high boost pressures,

it becomes the limiting factor,

that head gasket integrity.

And when we're running very high boost pressures,

very high cylinder pressures,

the head and blocks both tend to flex

and it doesn't take much movement before

that head gasket seal is interrupted

and it loses all the combustion pressure

into the cooling system.

Is there anything special you've done here

with the RP968 block design

to help improve the head gasket sealing?

- There is some design changes we did.

I mean that's one of the things that you really

need to focus on when you do the design

to make that work because you have to have

quite uniform pressure across the surfaces

that you really need to seal,

I mean around the cylinder bores basically,

and you don't want much pressure around

the other areas because that's taking away

from your clamping pressure at the cylinder.

So that's very important and I spent quite

a lot of time doing design work on that.

But it's not like anything special.

We run a plain MLS gasket with no rings or anything in that

and that is pretty much OK.

But you really need to pay attention to the location

of the bolts and how the clamping areas are

and you need to do, what's it called,

friction clamping model on the FEM calcultaions

to get that correctly,

and you need to know what you're doing with that

to get it to work.

There is, I'm not sure if you can show this or not,

there is for instance this cut here,

that is to distribute the clamping forces more evenly

for the bolts because they're a solid material between,

so that will tend to get a pressure spike

on the clamping force where you don't want it.

So then you need to loosen up the material there

to move the clamping pressure over to where

you need it to be.

- So again this is something you've developed

through FEA analysis?

- Yeah yeah, yes.

- Now with the sleeves that you're actually running in here,

just again related to that head gasket seal,

do you run a protrusion on the sleeves into the block

to help with the sealing?

- We run at pretty much zero height but the tolerance

is on the plus side.

The tolerance is on the plus side and the negative side

is completely flush.

So there is like a slight protrusion but depending

on the teams I'm not even sure if they decked this or not

but yeah there is like a really tiny protrusion

on average.

- Moving onto the cylinder head,

you've also designed that from scratch, again it's billet,

and with the freedom there to design the head

essentially any way you want,

what have you done there to optimise the port flow?

- Well the biggest change is to the head and the hole.

I mean we've flipped around the intake

and exhaust side to better suit the engine bay layout,

to have more space for the turbo charging accessories.

But the port shape's really,

I mean they did do a flow test on the head

and they did get very good numbers on that.

But it's not really something we designed

for this sort of cross section change in the port

and in the intake ducting,

and the same on the exhaust side also,

that's the most important for engine performance.

Because that's going to affect the pulsation

that you get and how you can tune for that

for the valve opening timings and the lengths

and diameters and that's really what we mostly tune for

and obviously fitting the largest valves possible

so that you can run as high RPM as possible

and get more power out of the engine.

- OK now we've talked about the power aims there

for circuit racing but you've also got some pretty

high power aspirations for the engine

if it was to be used in a drag application.

Can you tell us what you think the billet engine

may be capable of in drag applications?

- Yeah we've had a couple of drag racing guys

ask questions about that and I haven't really

done any calculations of that

but I've told them I would be very disappointed

if it wasn't capable of producing over 3000 horsepower.

And that would basically mean 10000 maybe 10500 RPM

and yeah really raise the boost pressure

up to I think it would need around five or six bar

boost or something like that to make the 3000.

- So fairly safe to say you're never gonna be running

3000 plus horsepower out of a factory 968 engine?

- Yeah I think not.

- The entire package that you've got here,

what's it actually weigh?

Just to put some perspective into things?

- Yeah that's actually yeah, excellent question.

That's one of the main things we actually aim for this with,

you can have 1500 horsepower engine,

it's not that special nowadays,

I mean there are lots of engines perusing that amount.

But what we're really focused on was to get the weight

very low on this.

So the engine package without the exhaust

manifold and intake manifold,

including the oil pump is around 106 kilograms.

I don't have the weight for all the pieces

but somewhere around there.

- That's incredibly light for an engine that can produce

that sort of power.

The other thing that I'm interested in there,

for a circuit racing application,

what sort of kilometre usage would you expect

between overhauls or maintenance?

- On this particular engine it's very short because

we're running drag racing connecting rods on those.

So it's basically here the plan was that they would

change the connecting rods over for Saturday.

And we've designed the engine actually

we have o-ring sealing so there's no need to wait

for silicon to harden or anything

and we have o-ring sealing bottom on the girdle also.

So it's possible you don't need to remove the block

from the engine to get the pistons and connecting rods out

and it's quick to put the cylinder head back on

and everything.

- So when you say drag racing conrods,

you're talking, I'm assuming there about aluminium conrods?

So those fatigue and they need to be replaced

fairly regularly is what you're sort of talking about there?

- Yeah and especially they have a really small small end,

so I'm guessing that that's one of the limitations,

I haven't tested them myself so I'm not really sure

but that's one of the things we're looking at

maybe making up our own custom connecting rods

to get a little bit more lifetime out of those

but we'll have to see when we start testing them

ourselves in Decemberish maybe.
