Why Is It Called Middle C? - Duration: 5:37.

It's usually the first note that you learn at piano lessons
and we assume it's called Middle C because
it's at the middle of the piano.
Let's take a closer look and see what we can find out about Middle C.
Hello and welcome, thanks for tuning in.
CJ here.
We're going to take a closer look today at middle C. It's usually the first note that
you learn when you go to piano lessons.
You're shown how to play it with the right hand and you're shown how to play it with
your left hand and there's middle C. Middle of the piano, or is it?
Let's find out.
Let's start at either end and work our way to the middle.
And no it is not.
C is not the middle, we end up on E and F. Middle E and middle F?
Never heard of them.
I'm used to hearing Middle C. So let's try it again, this time let's use all of the notes.
The first time I only used naturals, this time I'm going to use all of the notes.
And I end up with the same result, still E and F. Still not middle C.
So what are we missing?
What are we not seeing about the piano keyboard that we're not landing on middle C?
Well actually, maybe it's because middle C doesn't have much to do with the piano keyboard itself
It actually has to do more with music notation.
Music notation predates the piano by about 700 years.
The piano was invented around 1700 by Bartolomeo Christofori, but music notation was invented
around the year 1000 by Guido D'Arezzo, who was looking for a way to help monks memorise
Gregorian Chants.
So what he did was, he came up with a system of lines and spaces and put notes on these
lines and spaces to show pitch.
Relative pitch
And that system has been developed over the past 1000 years into modern music notation
Now as far as middle C is concerned, piano music is written on the Grand Staff.
The Grand Staff is made up of the Bass Clef and The Treble Clef.
Two independent clefs put together to form the Grand Staff.
They are joined by a Brace.
Now each one of these staffs, both treble and bass, have 5 lines and 4 spaces.
When we put these together we end up with a total of 10 lines.
Or Do we?
Actually, there's at least one one more line that's invisible.
And it's right in the middle of the Grand Staff.
And you can only see it when you put a note on it.
And when you put a note on it, it looks like this.
And the name of that note?
You guessed it.
Middle C.
Ta Daa!!
So now you know where middle C comes from.
It has nothing to do with the piano at all.
It actually is just from music notation.
From Sheet music.
So sheet music has been around for 1000 years driving everybody absolutely nuts.
Drives me nuts sometimes.
So if you're having an issue with it , don't feel bad, it's been driving people nuts for
a millennia.

What would you do if you wanted to slip something past the prying eyes of your constituency?
Well, if you're the DNC, you wait for a big distraction and try to get it past your
voters while they'll looking at all the hullabaloo.
That's what the DNC tried to pull during the State of the Union address when they took
the opportunity to file some pretty damning paperwork that they really didn't want to
get out.
The State of the Union is one of the biggest political events of the year, and the eyes
of almost the entire nation were on the address to the joint houses of Congress.
Most of the politicians in Washington were there (aside from a few who were boycotting
the event), and the few who are in charge of the books over at the DNC.
While the President spoke, and the people clapped (or didn't clap) and the newspapers
ran pictures of the people who clapped and didn't clap, papers were being filed Apparently
they had some funny business that they wanted to slip by their voters.
The paperwork had to do with the financial state of the Democratic National Convention.
Apparently, the people who want to convince you that they're so good at managing money
aren't so great when it's their money.
Townhall reports that they were filing their FEC numbers, and with good reason.
They seem to be solidly in the red, with no hope of escape:
"President Trump spoke of the good economic news to dead silence from Democrats.
Job creation is up, with 2.4 million jobs created since the 2016 election—Democrats
sat.
They sat when the president announced we had defeated ISIS, touted low unemployment rates,
fighting crime, uniting the country, and working together on a bipartisan basis.
They were a legion of grumpy cats; still incensed that Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in
2016.
Yeah, they're not over it.
Another area of heartburn could be the Democratic Party's rather atrocious fundraising hauls.
Filed during the State of the Union in the hopes of getting buried, Ken Vogel of The
New York Times picked it up where he noted the Democratic National Committee had raised
a little over $5 million in December, finishing the year $6 million in debt.
The Republican National Committee has no debt and raised over twice as much as the their
Democratic counterparts.
For 2017, the RNC raised $132.5 million to the DNC's $65.9 million.
Regarding cash on hand, the RNC has close to $40 million ($38.8 million to be exact),
while the DNC only has $6.3 million.
Yeah, I don't blame Democrats for trying to use a highly televised event in an attempt
to file and bury this report.
It's quite ugly.
On the other hand, as Katie wrote, the Republican National Committee not only had a great year,
but a record breaking one.
The RNC raised more money in an off year for either party.
It's an all-time high, whereas the DNC is pretty much on the verge of collapse.
The GOP tax bill's reception is getting better, with the legislation's approval
spiking and the generic ballot advantage for Democrats being chipped away with every passing
day.
The midterms might not be such a walk in the park if the good economic news continues to
emanate from this administration's policies.
The economy is booming, the tax reform package has spurred over 250 companies to dole out
bonuses to some three million workers, more employee investments are coming, more jobs
are projected to be created, and charitable donations are expected to increase from companies
thanks to Trump's tax bill.
Apple's repatriation of $250 billion, part of their $350 billion investments back into
America over a five-year periodis projected to create 20,000 jobs in the process.
We've reached a new era, one of economic prosperity, which is what President Trump
emphasized during the State of the Union Tuesday."
Kind of embarrassing that they had to go sneak that in while the President was talking about
all the economic gains of the year.
It's no wonder that the Democrats are so against lowering taxes, they need that money!
While the tax dollars (hopefully) aren't going into the pockets of Democrats, it always
seems to kind of work out that way.
The DNC is famously in favor of giving more money to the unemployed, illegals and pretty
much anyone who can be conned into voting for them.
The middle class is overwhelmingly in favor of lower taxes and a smaller government.
However, if you're someone who plans to spend their entire career in Washington, deciding
what to do with other people's money, you don't want to see that money going back
to them.
And you also don't want the fact that your entire party can't balance a checkbook put
on display for the whole world to see.
Unfortunately for them, you've got to get up pretty early in the morning to get something
by a capitalist, we understand that watching where the money goes
is important.

Third is Fear.
We are always fearful, we are afraid of situations, people and other thing
What do we need to do
We need to keep away from things which give us fear
From people who could be dangerous, from situations that can become dangerous
So what we need to do is depend on our soul

Now if that light stays there can never be darkness
The next reason could be Lack of Inspiration
And that could be because of the monotonous life that is going on and on and on and on
So what do you do?
Don't watch programmes that could be really depressing, that could put off your positive line
Watch things that could motivates you
Look at god, inspirational books read them.
Look at motivational videos, look at videos that could set you going
That could set you rolling & if you are feeling low. Look for a higher sense of music

But you need to get going, that inspiration should not die at all

Finally a nice day of the year.
First nice day of the year we've had.
I just want to show you a quick job
we're doing at the moment.
There's a lot of guys at the moment out with hydro trucks
doing hydro excavation and proving services.
Which is good.
It's good that they're digging safely.
When it comes to working for other clients and
proving, locating what you're proving
the reason why you need to use a locator
to do the proving is so that you know
what you're actually exposing.
So, that probably doesn't make sense but let me show you
I want to show you an example.
Come and have a look at this.
So, in here we've got white conduit there.
A white conduit there.
And can you see down the bottom?
Just down there.
Oops.
Is another one.
So there's three white conduits in here.
Now, let's see how smart you guys are.
Tell me which one is the Telstra.
Which one is the water.
Can you see?
Let's have a closer look.
Let's have a look at this one.
And that one down there.
Looking at this, I don't know, maybe you're more intelligent than me.
but I don't reckon there's any way of telling
which one of these 100mm conduits is a water main
and which one of these 100mm conduits is a telephone cable.
So that is why I say you should have a locator come out
and expose them for you
because what I've done
I've actually located where these are first
and so I know.
So I've gone down
hooked onto the telephone pit
located the telephone
and that's why I know where the telephone is.
That's why I know where the other telephone is.
So to let you know
just do a tell you the answer.
That one there is the water main.
That one there is the telephone
going across the road
and that one down the bottom is
the optic fibre.
That's got the NBN in it.
And the only reason that I know that is
I've been able to locate where they are first.
I've located where they are
and that's why we've dug down.
That's the only reason why we've exposed them
all in the one spot.
Just to make it easier for us.
Rather than digging three separate holes
because we've located them first.
So, look all I'm saying
if you are using guys to come out do your service proving
for you and tell you where the underground services are,
the reason why I'd use a locator to do that
rather than just anyone that's got a hydro truck
is so they can tell you exactly what is there.
So that when they are exposing stuff
they're not just coming across anything
and not knowing what it is.
Anyway, that is why I thought I'd tell you
just why I thought I'd do a quick video to show you.
This one here is a good example.
We've come across other times when
we've found copper pipes.
Copper pipes when they've been
running side by side and you don't know if
one's a water, one's a gas.
So there are times that even us as locators
don't know what each one is.
But there's more chance of us knowing it
than just someone with a hydro truck.

it's still safer to dig
but if you need any service locating done
feel free to give us a call
or call any of the other
Dial Before You Dig certified locators
